2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport Complaint Log

Our mechanic noted that there is rust/rot damage to the metal gas tank shield. It’s unknown how long this has existed.

On Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026, while my wife and daughter were driving in downtown [XXX] , the front passenger door spontaneously opened at [XXX] while the vehicle was in motion. This occurred despite the door being properly closed and latched. Fortunately, my daughter was wearing her seatbelt and was not injured, but this incident created a terrifying and life-threatening situation. Due to the dealerships being closed, I was forced to secure the door with ties to safely transport my family back to [XXX] . On April 7th, 2026, I dropped the car off at the dealer for repair of the safety recall. Most concerning is that my vehicle was in the care of the Richfield Land Rover dealership in March 19th, 2025 for several days for an engine oil leak repair totaling $6,718. At no point during this multi-day service was I notified of the open safety recall, nor was the remedy performed. When I confronted the service department today (April 7, 2026), I was told their "computer must have been down." INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Fuel tank shield is rusting and falling apart becoming a safety hazard

The contact owns a 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact was informed by an NHTSA agent that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V514000 (Steering). The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

Fuel tank cradle is rusted out and needs to be replaced. Vehicle only has 87k miles on it.

I purchased a 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport (VIN: [XXX] ) from AutoNation USA Wesley Chapel on May 17, 2025. Shortly after purchase, the driver-side door latch recall issue manifested when the door unexpectedly opened while the vehicle was traveling at highway speed. The incident was documented at the time it occurred. The vehicle was later serviced by AutoNation on August 26, 2025, where they stated the latch had been addressed. However, the NHTSA recall database still shows Manufacturer Recall N975 as incomplete for this VIN. This raises concern that the recall repair may not have been properly performed or reported, or that the vehicle was sold with an open safety recall that should have been identified and remedied prior to sale. Given that the driver-side door latch failure occurred while the vehicle was in motion shortly after purchasing the vehicle from AutoNation USA Wesley Chapel, which represented that a comprehensive multi-point inspection had been completed prior to sale, I am submitting this report as a safety concern regarding recall compliance, inspection practices, and repair documentation associated with this vehicle. Won't start & battery drain

The air bag light has come on and will not go out. There was a recall 15V093000 Occupant Classification Module Update. Land Rover Baton Rouge states that they can't diagnose the issue because the vehicle is a 2014. I am afraid that I and/or any passengers riding in the vehicle will get hurt or at worst killed from the malfunction.

I was having suspension problems when I purchased the vehicle. Took into land Rover proformed a suspension evaluation they made recommendations on what should be fixed I proformed the repairs but when I accelerated a hard knocking on the left side of the vehicle still happened I found a video on YouTube about the staring knuckles failing on my 2014 and decided to check to see if mine had the problem I cleaned both staring knuckles and found the beginning of fracture cracks on both. I called land Rover they said there were no recalls for my vehicle and I called corporate they said I need to bring it in for an inspection and there were no recalls for my vehicle. I will bring it in for inspection. But wanted to make NHTsa aware it's happening to my vehicle as well.

Land Rover has been made aware through several complaints that there is a widespread issue with their vehicles that requires recall. Thousands of customers have reported issues in their vehicles with cylinder 4 cracked pistons resulting in engine failure. Land Rover refuses to address the issue in their vehicles causing this malfunction and costly vehicle repair. Land Rover needs to issue a recall to address and rectify this issue in their vehicles as this issue results in the vehicle losing speed and coming to a complete halt with no warning from the vehicle. This could result in death of multiple people and cause crashes. It is highly dangerous and needs to be addressed by Land Rover with urgency.

Component/System Failure: The issue pertains to a timing chain failure malfunction, which has led to the disablement of the vehicle while driving. Yes, the affected component is available for inspection upon request. Based on additional information received this timing chain failure issue was raised and settled in a Class action lawsuit that Jaguar agreed to pay for Lessees of these models that all had a timing chain failure issue but the issues were not resolved with this vehicle. Safety Concerns: The failure occurred while driving on Highway [XXX], and the potential consequences could have been catastrophic. The vehicle's abrupt disablement in the middle of rush hour traffic in Washington D.C. posed an imminent risk of a near-fatal accident. A highway patrol officer had to intervene to redirect traffic and prevent other vehicles from crashing into the lane. This incident not only endangered the driver but also jeopardized the safety of countless other drivers on the road. It's crucial to highlight that such a failure could have been avoided with proper maintenance and early detection of the timing chain issue. You can lock the doors inside the vehicle or with the remote but the doors do not lock.

The contact owns a 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the passenger’s side air bag warning light illuminated intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on two occasions and the dealer diagnosed that the air bag sensor had failed. The dealer lubricated electrical wires located under the front passenger’s side seat; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 15V093000 (Air Bags). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The passenger front door opened by itself while the vehicle was moving. Speed was fairly slow 20-25kmphs an hour. The door almost struck another car in the right lane. The door locks were engaged and no light or warning was on the dash. I pulled over and closed the door and it closed as normal. Not sure what part of the door failed and caused it to open but I’m assuming the door latch? I called the dealership but they were closed. Will call them again but seems like a very serious issue that should be addressed by Land Rover. I could of struck another car, pedestrian or a cyclist. The door fully swung open. My vehicle is available to be inspected anytime. I have not made a insurance or police report etc.

2014 RR Sport < 73k miles now needs a new engine due to [three (3) passenger side] piston ring failure. Serviced only at dealer, received appropriate service at appropriate intervals. White/gray smoke appeared after oil change/80k mile service 03/21. Told smoke sometimes happens after oil change, no worries. I kept driving vehicle. Took to dealer twice, they couldn't replicate. After a month at dealer, they did boroscope which revealed striations. 90% cylinder leak down. JLRUSA says vehicle way out of warranty, not their problem. Dealer says not their problem, they did nothing wrong. I now have a 2.5 ton paperweight just sitting at dealer. Repair costs well over 10k for new engine. Seems strange that these seals failed, all 3 passenger side, and this occurred with regular service at appropriate intervals at dealer with the correct engine oil. Someone is at fault and it's not owner.

The contact owns a 2014 Land Rover Range Rover Sport. The contact stated while attempting to unlock the door with the key fob, the function inadvertently unlocked all the doors except the driver's side door. The contact was able to unlock the door manually. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer and diagnosed without a failure; however, the battery was replaced. The contact stated that the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the key fob needed to be recalibrated. The approximate failure mileage was 168,000.

I receive a constant warning light - check engine light comes on - for loose gas cap. I will adjust the gas cap and it will go away and then come back on, illuminate again shortly after. There is a strong fuel smell inside and outside of the vehicle.

There is a strong fuel smell outside and inside the cabin that gets worse

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER SPORT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, WITHOUT WARNING, THE DRIVER'S DOOR UNLATCHED AND THE DOOR OPENED. THE CONTACT HELD THE DOOR CLOSED AND DROVE TO HER RESIDENCE. THE FOLLOWING DAY THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER PLAZA MOTORS (11654 OLIVE BLVD, CREVE COEUR, MO 63141) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED HOWEVER, THE PARTS TO DO THE REPAIR WERE NOT AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 20V387000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES) AS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 116,000.

The driver door latch: there has been a handful of incidents where the door does not get full closed and I assume the system has a malfunction because then the door does not latch to vehicle as if the latch locks assuming vehicle had been closed. Therefore to close the door it has to be forcefully slammed to shut.

THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE REPORTED. THAT THE DOORS OPEN WHILE DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE. THIS IS HUGE SAFETY HAZARD. DEALERSHIP SENT ME A RECALL IN 2019. BUT, NOW THEY SAID I HAD TO PAY $675 FOR IT ! THIS ISNT RIGHT. WHEN THERE IS A RECALL. AND I ALREADY PAID SOME ON THE LAST TIME THE DOORS CAME OPEN

MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR WAS OPENING ON ITS OWN WHEN I HIT A BUMP OR MAKING A TURN WHILE DRIVING EVEN AFTER I LOCKED IT. HAD I NOT BEEN PAYING ATTENTION I WOULD HAVE FEEL OUT OF THE DOOR .I NO THERE IS A OPEN RECALL ON THAT CAN YOU ALL PLEASE FIND OUT WHAT IS TAKING THEM SO LONG TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOME GET HURT OR WORSE

THIS VEHICLE WAS SOLD TO ME WITH KNOWN DEFECTS BY THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE HAS KNOWN REPEATED DEFECTS WITH THE COOLANT SYSTEM, LOW COOLANT WARNING LIGHT REPEATEDLY COMING ON, RADIATOR, REPEATED WATER PUMP FAILURE, CROSSOVER PIPE SEEPING, GEAR BOX/ GEAR SHIFT FAILURE, FRONT SUSPENSION BOTTOMING, UNUSUAL WEARING OF BRAKES, ECO START/STOP FAILURE, REPEATED O2 OXYGEN SENSOR FAILURE TRIGGERING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WARNINGS, WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID LEAK BEHIND FRONT BUMPER. MANUFACTURER AND DEALERSHIP ARE AWARE OF DEFECTS AND PERFORM DECEPTIVE, MINIMAL REPAIRS UNDER WARRANTY WITH THE EXPECTATION THAT THESE DEFECTS WILL PRESENT BIGGER PROBLEMS DOWN THE ROAD AFTER THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND WILL INCUR COST AT CONSUMER EXPENSE AND DEALERSHIP/MANUFACTURER PROFIT. FAILURE OF THE DEALERSHIP/MANUFACTURER TO REPAIR THESE DEFECTS HAS CAUSED ENGINE FAILURE IN MY VEHICLE THAT I HAVE OWNED FOR 3 YEARS. I HAVE BEEN IN CONTACT WITH MANUFACTURER AND THEY ARE STALLING AND DELAYING IN PROVIDING ANY REMEDY FOR THIS MATTER. I HAVE FULL DOCUMENTATION AND SERVICE RECORDS SINCE OWNERSHIP OF THE CAR. CAR WAS SERVICED AT LAND ROVER DEALERSHIPS. IN ADDITION, VEHICLE HAS HAD VARIOUS RECALLS KNOWN TO NHTSA.

THE DOOR LOCKS ON THE CAR WILL NOT LOCK THEY STAY UNLATCHED

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER SPORT. WHILE DRIVING, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE AIR BAG MIGHT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JAGUAR LAND ROVER OF THOUSAND OAKS (LOCATED AT 3601 AUTOMALL DR, THOUSAND OAKS, CA 91362, (805) 267-3600) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT FAILED WITH CODE B0020-13, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V093000 (AIR BAGS), BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 47,959.

DRIVERS SIDE DOOR CAME OPEN AND WOULD NOT STAY CLOSED. TOOK VEHICLE INTO DEALER WHO IDENTIFIED FAULTY DOOR LATCH. I RESEARCHED ISSUE AND LEARNED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL BACK IN 2015 ON THE DOOR LATCH FOR THE SAME MAKE/MODEL AND YEAR OF VEHICLE. I CONTACTED RANGE ROVER AND THEY SAID MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.

IN 2016, THE LOW ENGINE COOLANT WARNING LIGHT CAME ON IN MY CAR. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TESTED IT FOR A LEAK, DIDN'T FIND ONE, SO JUST TOPPED OFF THE FLUID. THREE MONTHS LATER, HAPPENED AGAIN. TOOK THE CAR IN AND THEY DID A QUICK PRESSURE TEST AND DIDN'T FIND A LEAK. THIS WAS AN ONGOING PROBLEM AND AT ONE POINT, THE DEALER REPLACED A WATER PUMP TO FIX THE PROBLEM. STILL, THE LIGHT WOULD COME BACK ON. IN NOVEMBER OF 2018, LOW ENGINE COOLANT LIGHT CAME ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND MY ENGINE OVERHEATED RIGHT THEN, WHILE I WAS DRIVING. I HAD CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER AND IT COST ME $3,400 TO HAVE THE REPAIRS DONE- LO AND BEHOLD, ALL OF THE COOLANT HAD LEAKED OUT. AFTER THOSE REPAIRS WERE DONE, I HAD THE CAR BACK FOR ABOUT A WEEK AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON,,,THEY SAID IT WAS AN O2 SENSOR, WHICH THEY REPLACED. GOT CAR BACK- CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN. LONG STORY SHORT- NOW IT'S THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM AND A TIMING CHAIN FAILURE. EXTREMELY COSTLY REPAIR AND I AM NOW QUESTIONING IF THIS VEHICLE WAS EVER ROAD SAFE TO BEGIN WITH. THEY HAD MY CAR FOR OVER A MONTH REPLACING THE TIMING CHAIN AND SOME OTHER REPAIRS, WHICH LAND ROVER NORTH AMERICA DID PAY HALF OF. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE ONE OF THE SERVICE ADVISORS AT LAND ROVER FRISCO SAID THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF ROVERS WITH THE LOW COOLANT LIGHT ON AND ALL THEY DO IS TOP OFF FLUID. I AM AFRAID THEY HAVE A BIGGER PROBLEM THAN WHAT THEY ARE ACKNOWLEDGING. BTW- LAND ROVER DALLAS IS WHO DID THE LATTER REPAIRS AND LAND ROVER FRISCO INITIALLY REPLACED THE WATER PUMP...WHICH WAS A WASTE OF MONEY.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER SPORT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S DOOR FAILED TO SECURELY LOCK WHEN THE DOOR WAS SHUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO JAGUAR LAND ROVER FARMINGTON HILLS (LOCATED AT 38200 GRAND RIVER AVENUE, FARMINGTON HILLS, MI 48335, (248) 509-2990) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR LATCH AND CABLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V385000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,600.

UPON STARTING MY CAR, IT AUTOMATICALLY STARTS ACCELERATING IN PARKING. I HAVE TO WAIT FOR THE ENGINE TO STOP ACCELERATION WHICH TAKES AROUND 40 SECONDS. ONLY THEN I CAN PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE OR DRIVE MODE. THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON. UPON TAKING TO DEALERSHIP THEY WERE INFORMED ABOUT THE ABOVE PROBLEM. THEY DID A DIAGNOSTIC AND STATED THAT PLUGS NEED TO BE CHANGED. I PAID THEM $650. NOW THE ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT STAY LIT UP AND THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM WAS GONE. AFTER 16 WEEKS THE PROBLEM CAME BACK AND THE CAR STARTED ACCELERATING UPON STARTUP, AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THIS TIME THEY SAID THEY CAR HAS A DIFFERENT PROBLEM. THIS TIME THEY STATED THE PROBLEM IS WITH OIL LEAKING. THE INVOICE WAS $3600. I TOOK THE CAR TO ANOTHER SHOP FOR SECOND OPINION AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS A BIG HOLE IN THE HOSE. I CHECKED ONLINE IF THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS DUE TO HOSE LEAK PROBLEM. THE INTERNET SHOWS RECALLS FOR 2014 RANGE ROVER SPORT MODELS FOR HOLES IN HOSES. BUT WHEN I ENTER MY VIN NUMBER, NO RECALLS SHOW UP. SELF ACCELERATION SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF BY LAND ROVER. PLEASE ASSIST ME IN THIS ISSUE, AS THE DEALERSHIP IS TRYING TO JUST ROB ME EVEN AFTER I GOT THE PROBLEM FIXED. THE TPMS LIGHT STAYS ON IN MY CAR.

OCCURS ONLY BY DRIVER :PASSENGER SIDE FRONT DOOR CAME OPEN IN MOTION IN PARKING LLOT AND FAILED TO CLOSE/ LATCH ON 5/27/2018 . WHEN STATIONARY, BACKING UP, AND EVEN DRIVING THE COMPUTER SCREEN LOCKS AND PARKING AID ALERT, CAMERAS UNAVAILABLE. PLEASE CONSULT YOUR DEALER. WARNING COMES ON PREVENTING THE ABILITY TO SEE BLINDSPOTS WHEN BACKING UP THAT ARE NOT VISIBLE BY TURNING AND LOOKING ALONE OR USING MIRROR. THIS HAS HAPPENED COUNTLESS TIMES. I HAVE TAKEN THIS TO DEALERSHIP UNDER WARRANTY AND SOFTWARE UPDATES HAVE BEEN DONE. HOWEVER THIS IS STILL HAPPENING. I CONTACTED LANDROVER AND THEY STATED THIS ISSUE IS KNOWN AND NO CODES AS TO WHY IT HAPPENS ARE ABLE TO BE STORED ON THIS MODEL AS IT WAS NOT MADE FOR THIS, HOWEVER THEY WILL ONLY REPLACE IF CODES ARE STORED. I HAVE TAKEN PICTURES AND VIDEOS OF THIS AND SENT TO LANDROVER, HOWEVER THEY STILL WANT CODES EVEN AFTER TELLING ME THEY KNOW IT WILL NEVER HAVE THEM. THIS IS ALARMING AS THE CAMERA HELPS TO ENSURE NO PERSON, ANIMAL, OR OBJECT IS BEHIND VEHICLE THAT IS UNABLE TO BE SEEN WITHOUT CAMERA AS THIS VEHICLE SITS HIGH. ALSO, THIS VEHICLE HAS OTHER SAFETY ALERTS THAT ARE PART OF THE SAME SYSTEM THAT HAS ME WORRIED COULD MALFUNCTION AT ANY POINT SUCH AS AUTO BRAKING TO PREVENT HITTING VEHICLES IN FRONT OF YOU AND AUTO CRUISE CONTROL THAT KEEPS A SAFE DISTANCE FROM THE VEHICLES IN FRONT OF YOU BY SLOWING VEHICLE DOWN AUTOMATICALLY WHILE SET. THIS COULD CAUSE SOMEONE TO BE INJURED OR EVEN KILLED AS WELL AS PROPERTY DAMAGE. ALSO, MY DASH THAT SHOWS SPEED FUEL, AND SUCH IS ALSO FULLY DIGITAL AND AM WORRIED THIS MIGHT BE EFFECTED TOO AND AT ANY POINT LOCKUP OR DISAPPEAR. PHOTOS SHOW DIFFERENT TIMES ON SCREEN.

VEHICLE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM CONTINUOUSLY EMITS MOLD AND MILDEW ODOR EVEN AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO REMEDY THE SITUATION USING ANTIBACTERIAL AND ANTIFUNGAL SPRAYS. THIS IS A KNOW ISSUE WITH THE EVAPORATOR ON RANGE ROVER AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS, AND I BELIEVE IT IS DANGEROUS TO OUR HEALTH DUE TO MOLD AND MILDEW.

THE MANAGER AT LANF ROVER OF FORT LAUDERDALE REFUSE TO FIX THE PROBLEM RELATED WITH THE ENGINE ON MY VEHICLE CLAIMING THAT THIS SUV RAN WITHOUT OIL HOWEVER THIS SUV WAS SERVICE 15 MILES PRIOR OF HAVING THE ENGINE SEIZED,NOBODY IS WHILING TO HELP ME AND AFTER READING ON THE INTERNET FOUND OUT THIS RANGE ROVER SPORTS AND JAGUARS 3.0 SUPERCHARGED ENGIINE HAVE A RECALL FROM LAND ROVER DUE TO LACK OF TORQUE ADJUSTMENT ON THE CRANKSHAFT CONNECTING RODS AND CAUSE THE CONNECTING ROD BEARINGS TO LOOSEN AND SEIZE THE ENGINE COMPLETLY,ALSO CALL LAND ROVER OF NORTH AMERICA AND THEY ALSO SAID THEY CAN'T HELP ME.

The headlight and tail light assemblies get water and moisture inside the lenses whenever it rains. This has cause one of my headlights to short out. As a result, the DRL/Turn signal on the left side headlight has stopped working. As for the rear tail light, whenever there is water inside, the tail light will flicker on/off while driving. There is always condensation inside all of the lights long after the rain has stopped and water has dried. Also in addition to the lights, the rear view camera system does not function properly when it rains or after a car wash. It will intermittently display a distorted image and sometimes no image at all, just a screen of green lines.

IT WAS CLEAR IN THE SECOND OR TWO THAT IT TOOK THE DOOR TO CLOSE COMPLETELY AND TRYING TO OPEN IT AT LEAST 3 TIMES, THERE WAS NO CHANCE IT WAS GOING TO OPEN UNTIL IT WAS COMPLETELY CLOSED.
