2021 Lexus ES Complaint Log

On or July 28, 2026, I experienced a safety incident involving the driver’s side power window on my 2021 Lexus ES. The vehicle was running, and I reached through the driver’s side window to retrieve an item being handed to me. Without me pressing or activating the window switch, the driver’s window unexpectedly quickly closed on my arm. It trapped my right forearm. I could not get my arm out for several minutes and attempted to open the window with both the switch and manually using all my force from my upper body to try to free my right arm. The associate also tried to push the window back open but it would not budge. I had also tried opened the driver’s door to see if that would cause the window to release. Nothing I could do would budge the window open for me to pull free and the force was very strong against my arm. I finally freed my arm and the window closed quickly on both hands at my knuckles before I could pull them out. Which I also had to struggle against with great force. That's how fast the window was going. I did think I was going to loose my hand. The incident resulted in injury to my right arm. Based on my understanding, the power window did not stop or reverse as I would have expected from the vehicle’s anti-pinch safety feature. This unexpected window movement created a risk of serious injury. I am concerned that this may indicate a defect in the power window system or its safety features. I am submitting this report so the incident can be documented and investigated to determine whether other vehicles may have the same issue.

I received a DMV notice of Vehicle Safety Recall, I contacted the Dealer and they notify me that as of now there is no repair for it. That it is on "Interim notice". That if you need a documentation from the that they can provide it for me. Please let me know how to go about it asap. I like to renew my vehicle registration and I can't do it because of the Recall on my car. Thank you.

I called into my local dealer to schedule an appointment to have this issue resolved and was told there has been no remedy for this situation as of right now. I have a 12 year old daughter and I am now concerned about her safety.

I received a letter that my vehicle is subject to a recall for "passenger airbag may not deploy". I contacted my dealer and they said there is not a remedy at they do not know when the remedy will be available. Possibly not until 3rd quarter of 2024. I asked what if the airbag is needed to deploy while they figure out a remedy, they stated. "We HOPE this does not happen". Offering me nothing but hope that no one dies from their error. It is nice to know that Lexus offers HOPE instead of safety for me and my family.

front seat passenger air bag recall and it has been over a year and they are still waiting for the parts. The recall says that the air bag may not deploy when it is supposed to and could cause injury to the occupant. I would think this would be a high priority for Lexus to fix the problem. Can you help us get this taken care of?

Recall on my vehicle has been out for 1.5 years. Dealer states no parts yet & that I should be fine. But I don’t feel safe if my passenger air bag won’t deploy in any emergency.

On Nov 9, 2022 I first noticed the problem. When I drove back to home Vancouver, WA from California I used cruise control all the way. I was driving at 70 and ahead of me was traffic. The car in front of me slowed down and the cruise control was on which was supposed to detect the car ahead and slowed down using the brakes but it didn’t and my rpm went high almost 4-5. I called the dealership about the incident while on the way. I was asked if there were any issues like lights, warning/message but there was nothing. I have a video about it. When I arrived home turned off the car. Woke up the next day, took it to the dealership and the car is working fine. I showed one of the service reps the video and he stated they cant fix the car because there is no issue coming up in the computer. At the time the mileage was 46,313. After this incident it didn’t happen again. However after 60k miles when I drove over 6-7hrs the problem came up again. I almost got in an accident because the car didn’t slow down and stop. I called the lexus headquarters and they communicated with the same dealership to look into it. My car is at the dealership right now and don't know if they will find the issue and if it will get fixed. I don't feel safe driving this car because of the close encounters Ive had to an accident. I rely on my car for my job and by leaving it at a dealership for many days Im losing income. I hope they can find the issue and fix it right away.

While driving my 2021 Lexus ES 350 on a Interstate Highway 495 known as the Long Island Expressway my vehicle went over a small pot hole in the road way and the tires side wall was punctured resulting in a flat tire. I replaced the tire having only 4,555 miles on this new vehicle. Following this incident I once again drove over obstruction more than 4 inches and had both the drivers side tire and the drivers side rear tire side walls punctured with the additional damage of the drivers side front rim so badly damaged it had to be replaced. My specific safety issue is these low profile tires are less than 4 inches from the rim AND CAN NOT ACCEPT THE STRESS OF A "NOMINAL POT HOLE TO PREVENT PUNCTURING OF THE SIDE WALL OF THE TIRE AND ARE UNSAFE UNDER "NORMAL ROAD HAZARDS THAT OTHER TIRES DO NOT EXPERIENCE THAT ARE NOT LOW PROFILE TIRES. Tire is Bridgestone Turanza EL440. Called Lexus. They disallow any other tire or rim except the low profile to result in voiding of warranty. What can I do to remedy this safety issue at my own expense ?

My car had 3 tire/wheel issues in less than 4 months. Left me stranded on the side of the road. Was told this is a common issue. Basically Lexus knows they have a problem but do not have plans to fix other than offer insurance. It is costly repair. The bigger issue is the safety one. I believe that sometime this will cause a severe accident. I felt so strongly I sold the car back to Lexus. We were surprised at the total lack of concern shown to us. We had 2 episodes in MI and 1 in FL. I was told that an office manger had 3 blow outs this year. Also another customer that had just had her car a week had a blow out. I will never purchase a car with Low profile tires of this kind. If your tires won't hold up you cannot feel safe.

My opened vehicle doors can not be seen in the path of other vehicle drivers when standing outside the opened vehicle door blocking the light on the vehicle doors. To solve this problem I added a Fluorescent Yellow/Green Retro-Reflective Tape to the lower interior door edge of each vehicle door that is automatically illuminated by another vehicle drivers headlights at night to allow another vehicle a visual warning and the added time to allow accident avoidance to occur. I also contacted the New York City Dept. of Transportation that also includes the police department and learned that with the fleet of 31,000 vehicles they have they have a continuous upwards of 1,000 opened vehicle door collisions a year. I believe NHTSA is NOT REPORTING SPECIFICALLY INCIDENTS OF OPENED VEHICLE DOOR COLLISIONS because the specific type of incident is not included in the motor vehicle accident accident reports provided back to NHTSA. I request NHTSA include the following in accident reports OPENED VEHICLE DOOR to be included into my Petition for Rulemaking since non-reporting of opened vehicle door collisions is "grossly under or not reported'. It is my low estimate that in the United States upwards of 500.000 opened vehicle door collisions occur yearly and NHTSA has "just cause" to include these incidents in its reporting systems.

The contact owns a 2021 Lexus ES350. The contact stated while accelerating from a stop, the brakes inadvertently was activated. The automatic braking system engaged and the vehicle had to be shifted to park, turned off, and restarted to operate correctly. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repairs. The contact stated that several months later the failure recurred. The contact stated that while turning out of a parking lot the automatic braking system engaged and the vehicle had to be turned off and restarted to operate correctly. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that if the failure did not occur on the way to the dealer there was nothing that they could do. The vehicle was taken to the dealer after the 5th failure and the dealer was unable to determine a cause for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and sent a field technician to the dealer who was also unable to determine the cause of the failure. A case was opened with the manufacturer. The approximate failure mileage was 8,000. Consumer called several times to speak to a case manager but not able to reach a field tech for over a month.

WHEN I OPENED MY VEHICLE DOOR AT NIGHT AND EXITING MY VEHICLE THE VEHICLE DOOR DOES NOT PROVIDE A VISUAL WARNING TO OTHER VEHICLE DRIVERS IN THE PATH OF MY 2021 LEXUS ES 350. I DID AN INVESTIGATION AND FOUND THAT ALL OPENING DOORS ON ALL 17 MILLION VEHICLE DOORS DO NOT PROVIDE AN ADDED ZONE OF ILLUMINATION THAT IS AUTOMATICALLY ILLUMINATED BY ANOTHER VEHICLE DRIVERS HEADLIGHT TO ALLOW ACCIDENT AVOIDANCE TO OCCUR. I PETITIONED NHTSA AND RECEIVED NO REPLY TO MY "FIX" TO MAKE POSSIBLE A NEW FMVSS 108 TO SOLVE THIS CONTRIBUTORY CAUSE OF OPENED VEHICLE DOOR PEDESTRIAN DEATHS. THE APPLICATION TO ADD A ZONE OF ILLUMINATION IS UNIVERSAL IN APPLICATION TO ALL VEHICLE DOORS, AND TAKES ABOUT 10 SECONDS TO APPLY REQUIRING NO TOOLS. I WISH NHTSA TO TAKE A POSITION THAT ALL VEHICLE DRIVERS HAVE THE RIGHT TO SEE OPENED VEHICLE DOORS AT NIGHT TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF OPENED VEHICLE DOOR COLLISIONS AND OPENED VEHICLE DOOR PEDESTRIAN DEATHS AND TO PROVIDE A SAFETY WARNING NOTICE TO ALL VEHICLE OWNERS THE FOLLOWING. IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED BY VISUAL OBSERVATION AT NIGHT OPENING THE VEHICLE DOORS ON ALL VEHICLES DO NOT PROVIDE A VISUAL ZONE OF ILLUMINATION WARNING TO OTHER VEHICLE DRIVERS AT NIGHT THAT MAY CONTRIBUTE TO A OPENED VEHICLE DOOR PEDESTRIAN FATALITY.
