THE BRAKE PEDAL AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL ARE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER AND THERE IS A TENDENCY FOR THE FOOT TO SPAN THE DISTANCE BETWEEN BRAKE PEDAL AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO SPEED UP WHEN PLACED IN GEAR FORWARD OR BACKWARDS, WHICH CAN RESULT IN UNAVOIDABLE ACCIDENTS WITH PERSONS, PROPERTY OR VEHICLES. THE AUTOMATIC ADJUSTER FOR BOTH PEDALS MOVES THEM IN UNISON AT THE SAME DISTANCE FROM EACH OTHER CAUSING ONE TO SPAN THE DISTANCE FROM ONE PEDAL TO THE OTHER. WITH THE AMOUNT OF TORQUE FROM THE ENGINE THE BRAKE PEDAL WILL NOT HOLD THE VEHICLE SHOULD THE FOOT UNAVOIDABLY PRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE TWO PEDALS SHOULD BE INCREASED TO AVOID THE FOOT FROM SPANNING FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 LINCOLN AVIATOR. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT CABLE CONTINUOUSLY BECOMES DISLODGED FROM THE SHIFT CABLE BRACKETS. WHILE DRIVING THE SHIFTER WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR. HE WOULD HAVE TO GO UNDER THE VEHICLE AND SNAP THE CABLES BACK TOGETHER. THERE WAS A RECALL NHTSA#02V313000; COMPONENT: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. AFTER CONTACTING THE DEALER IN REGARDS TO THE FAILURE HE WAS TOLD HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ALSO INFORMED HIM HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000. UPDATED 12/30/10 *BF THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKE ACTIVATION SWITCH. THE POWER WINDOW MOTOR WAS REPLACED. UPDATED 01/07/11 UPDATED 04/07/11
I WAS UNABLE TO STOP 2003 AVIATOR AND RAN INTO A BUILDING. THERE WAS EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT ANY SPEED, THERE WAS AN INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND A DEALER WHO BOTH DETERMINED THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER THE DEALER REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER, THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THE MASTER CYLINDER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE MASTER CYLINDER PART NEEDED FOR REPAIR WAS ON BACK ORDER AND NOT AVAILABLE AT ANY AREA DEALERSHIPS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
DT: THE CONTACT STATED THE ABS AND PARKING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. WHEN THIS OCCURRED HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY REPLACED THE REAR BRAKE SENSOR THREE SEPARATE TIMES. HE STATED THERE WERE NO OTHER PROBLEMS. *AK UPDATED 01/25/06. *JB
