The contact owns a 2002 Lincoln LS. The contact stated while driving at 50-55 MPH, the vehicle accelerated unintendedly. The brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that he stood on the brake pedal until the vehicle responded 8-10 minutes later. The vehicle speed was 120 MPH at the time the contact regained control of the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred while driving. The contact shifted into neutral (N) and veered to the side of the road where the vehicle came to a complete stop. The contact then shifted into park (P). However, the RPMs revved up to 5,000 MPH. The contact turned off the vehicle. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 230,000.

THE EMERGENCY BRAKES ALSO FAILED TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO SLOW DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.
VEHICLE WAS COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. WHILE DECELERATING FROM APPROXIMATELY 20-30 MPH, THE CAR SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD WITH FOOT COMPLETELY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. CAR HAD DECELERATED TO APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH WHEN IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. DRIVER SWERVED TO AVOID THE CAR STOPPED IN FRONT, BUT VEHICLE STRUCK THE OTHER CAR IN THE REAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 LINCOLN LS. WHILE APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STUCK TO THE FLOOR. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE INVOLUNTARILY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A FENCE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY AND THE HORN WAS INOPERATIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED, BUT THE CONTACT COULD NOT RECALL THE COMPONENTS THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT ALSO DID NOT REMEMBER THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS; THEREFORE, THEY COULD NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,005 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
MY WIFE WAS STOPPED AT A STOP LIGHT AND STARTED TO MOVE UP IN TRAFFIC TO CLOSE A GAP BETWEEN HER AND VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER WHEN THE 2002 LINCOLN LS SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER. BRAKES WERE APPLIED BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO SURGE FORWARD. SHE FINALLY STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND THEN PUT THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE TO BACK AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER. WITH HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE VEHICLE SURGED IN REVERSE AND HIT THE VEHICLE BEHIND HER. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED DAMAGE IN BOTH FRONT AND REAR. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LINCOLN DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE VEHICLES COMPUTER SYSTEMS DID NOT SHOW A CODE. FORD MOTOR COMPANY WAS CONTACTED BY THE VEHICLES OWNER. *JB
