I OWN A 2005 LINCOLN LS, AND I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THREE COILS AND PLUGS JUST RECENTLY, I HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING THAT SOME OF THESE CARS WERE RECALLED BECAUSE OF MANUFACTURERS DEFECT IF THEY WERE MANUFACTURED AT CERTAIN PLANTS. I CALLED A DEALER AND THEY SAID MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT ONE OF THEM, YET I HAVE HAD THE EXACT PROBLEM THAT THEY DESCRIBED. MY QUESTION IS WHY WOULDN'T THEY ALL BE ALL BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL IF I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THREE ALREADY. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THESE CARS SHOULD ALL BE MANUFACTURED WITH SAME PARTS AND HAVE THE WARRANTY, HERE I HAD TO PAY TO REPLACE THE COILS AND PLUGS IN MY CAR. THE DEALER DID SAY THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM.
MY LINCOLN LS 2005 WAS DOING FINE THAN 53000 MILES HITS THAT'S NOTHING ON VEHICLES AND. MY TRANSMISSION IS JUMPING GEARS FOUR AND FIVE ARE HORRIBLE I CANT EXCEED 55MPH ..ID UNDERSTAND ON A VEHICLE THAT HAS 160000 MILES BUT I MEAN 53000 GIVE ME A FINANCIAL BREAK. I BOUGHT THIS CAR THINKING NICE SHAPE MINT CONDITION BUT NEVER DID I REALIZE NOR READ UP THAT THESE THINGS GIVE OUT AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAVE HAD ALL KINDS OF DIFFICULTIES..THESE NEED TO BE RECALLED INSTEAD OF 100S OF LINCOLN LS OWNERS TO BE HANDED ANOTHER FINANCIAL BURDEN..HELP US OUT YOU ALL MAKE A KILLING ANYHOW. AS SOON AS THE WARRANTY EXPIRED THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO HAVE INTERMITTENT ERROR MESSAGES ABOUT THE PARKING BRAKE NEEDING SERVICE AND THE CLIMATE CONTROL BEGAN TO BLOW ONLY HOT AIR. VEHICLE HAS VERY LOW MILES, GARAGED METICULOUSLY, SERVICED. LINCOLN CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED TO HAVE DEALER RUN DIAGNOSTICS AND THEN THEY COULD KNOW WHETHER THEY MAY BE ABLE TO HELP WITH REPAIRS TO CLIMATE CONTROL. PAID 170.00 FOR DIAGNOSTICS, DEALER AND LINCOLN REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING STICKING ME WITH THE BILL. THEY MADE THE EXCUSE THAT IT WAS MY FAULT BECAUSE IT MAY HAVE OCCURRED BECAUSE I DIDN'T DRIVE IT ENOUGH. I WAS SHOCKED , ITS FIRST TIME THAT I'VE HEARD SUGGESTED THAT TAKING CARE OF SOMETHING CAUSED IT TO BREAK! . RIDICULOUSLY POOR CUSTOMER SATISFACTION DEPARTMENT. *TR
I HAVE THREE MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH MY 2005 LINCOLN LS. THE FIRST PROBLEM IS I HAVE A HARD REVERSE AND THE GEARS STICK BETWEEN 30-35 MPH AS I ACCELERATE. SOMETIMES IT HAS A HARD BUMP ONCE IT STARTS ACCELERATING! THE SECOND PROBLEM IS THAT I HAVE REPLACED TWO IGNITION COILS WITHIN A YEAR APART AND NOW I HAVE TWO MORE IGNITION COILS THAT NEED TO BE REPLACED PER P0354, P0301AND P0304.I HAVE REPLACED THE THROTTLE BOTTLE, BUT THE LIMP HOME SIGN HAS OCCURED TWICE SINCE THEN CAUSING THE CAR TO DECELERATE!! THE THIRD PROBLEM IS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER PER P0420. I PURCHASED THIS CAR IN 2009 WITH LESS THAN 50,000 MILES, LESS THAN A YEAR THE TRANSMISSION STARTED SLIPPING! *TR
THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY SURGE OR DIE OUT WHILE DRIVING. CAN OCCUR AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING, DID IT TO ME MULTIPLE TIMES, WHETHER IN IDLE OR ON THE HIGHWAY GOING 50+MPH. I AM TRYING TO GET THE PART REPLACED FROM THE DEALER. THE PART IS ON BACKORDER, SEEMINGLY THERE IS A LARGE NUMBER OF THESE GOING BAD AND NOT ENOUGH NEW ONES TO GO AROUND. THE PART THE DEALER IS TELLING ME WENT BAD IS THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
NOTHING LEAD UP TO THIS EVENT... I WAS DRIVING ON I-95 IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC HIT THE GAS AND THE CAR THREW A WARNING "ETC ENGINE FAILSAFE MODE" WHICH LEFT THE CAR IN A STATE OF HAVING NO ENGINE POWER. I WAS LUCKY I DID NOT CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH CARS TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED AND THIS CAR JUST LOST ALL POWER I DID MANAGE TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD AND SHUT THE CAR OFF THEN TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT ACTED AS IF NOTHING WAS WRONG. I GOT THE CAR OFF OF I-95 AND ON TO SURFACE STREETS WHERE IT HAPPENED ONE MORE TIME BEFORE I TOOK IT TO LINCOLN FOR SERVICE. ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP POMPANO LINCOLN MERCURY THE PART (THROTTLE BODY ASSY) IS NOT A WARRANTY ITEM AND EVEN IN AN EMERGENCY CANNOT GET THE PART FOR ALMOST 30 DAYS. I HAVE TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THIS CAR AS I CANNOT AFFORD TO RENT A CAR FOR 30 DAYS AS WELL AS SPEND THE $900 FOR THE REPAIR. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF LINCOLN LS OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS THROTTLE PROBLEM YET AT THIS TIME FORD HAS DONE NOTHING TO MAKE THIS SAFETY ISSUE RIGHT AND AS THE DEMAND IS SO HIGH CANNOT EVEN SUPPLY THE PARTS FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS SAFETY. *TR
SUDDEN LOSS OF THROTTLE RESPONSE ON 2005 LINCOLN LS WITH 3.9L ENGINE. THIS HAPPENED MANY TIMES RECENTLY WITH MY DAUGHTERS VEHICLE. CLOSE CALLS WHEN IN OTHER TRAFFIC WHEN THERE IS SUDDEN LOSS OF THROTTLE. WHEN THIS OCCURS, THERE IS NO MIL ( MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT ) NOR IS THERE A DTC ( DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE. VEHICLE WILL ONLY IDLE ENOUGH TO GET OFF ROAD. TURN OFF IGNITION AND RESTART VEHICLE WITH NO PROBLEM. THIS IS RECURRING MORE FREQUENTLY WITH HER CAR AND ALSO HAVE READ ALOT OF FORUMS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. VAST SIMILARITIES ON ALL FORUMS WITH NO APPARENT RESOLUTION FROM FORD LINCOLN. *TR
INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) LAST NIGHT MY 2005 LINCOLN LS HAD RUNAWAY ACCELERATION WHEN I PUT IT INTO REVERSE. I COULDN'T GET IT STOPPED UNTIL I WAS OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND HALFWAY INTO THE STREET. I ALMOST HIT A TREE. I KNOW THAT IF I TAKE IT INTO LINCOLN, THEY WILL DENY ANY ISSUE. [XXX] *TR
MY 2005 LINCOLN LS HAS BEEN GOING INTO AN ETC FAILSAFE MODE ALMOST EVERY OTHER DAY FOR LAST FOUR MONTHS. DEALERSHIP HAS TOLD ME IT IS A FAULTY ACCELERATOR PEDAL SENSOR. HOWEVER, THIS PART WAS AND CONTINUES TO BE ON A "NATIONAL BACKORDER". I HAVE AVOIDED COUNTLESS CRASHES DUE TO THIS FAILURE WHILE MERGING INTO TRAFFIC. ONCE THE ETC FAILURE COMES ON, I LOSE ALL ACCELERATOR POWER AND MERELY COAST IN AN ATTEMPT TO GET OFF HIGHWAY SO I CAN RESTART THE CAR. ON ONE PARTICULAR DAY THIS HAPPENED 4 TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF DRIVING ABOUT 15 MILES. I AM PUTTING THE INCIDENT DATE AS WHEN I TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP LAST HOWEVER THIS ISSUE IS ON GOING. *TR
2005 LINCOLN LS WILL START TO SKIP AND SPUTTER ESPECIALLY ON INCLINE. ENGINE LIGHT DOES NOT GO ON. REPLACED FUEL FILTER AND PROBLEM STILL HAS NOT GONE AWAY. *TR
NOTE - FORD MOTOR COMPANY SUGGESTED THAT I FILE A COMPLAINT WITH THE NHTSA. THE VEHICLE INVOLVED IS A 2005 FORD LINCOLN LS - V6 - WITH APPROXIMATELY 79,000 MILES. ON FEBRUARY 2, 2009 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE LS WHEN THE EMERGENCY (PARKING) BRAKE BECAME ENGAGED AND SLOWED THE CAR VERY RAPIDLY IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE BRAKE WOULD NOT DISENGAGE AND SHE COULD NOT MOVE THE CAR. SHE TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO RESET THE EMERGENCY (PARKING) BRAKE AND IT DID NOT DISENGAGE. SHE THAN TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED AT WHICH TIME THE EMERGENCY (PARKING) BRAKE WAS DISENGAGED. I DROVE THE CAR THE NEXT DAY AND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE EMERGENCY (PARKING) BRAKE BECOMING ENGAGED WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY CAUSING THE CAR TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP VERY RAPIDLY. MY WIFE WAS WITH ME AND SHE TOLD ME WHAT SHE HAD DONE THE PREVIOUS DAY TO DISENGAGE THE BRAKE. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE OLATHE FORD COMPANY SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN OLATHE, KANSAS. THEY TOLD US THEY HAD A SIMILAR SITUATION WITH ANOTHER LS THE WEEK BEFORE AND KNEW HOW TO FIX THE PROBLEM. WE HAD TO REPLACE THE DUAL COOLANT CONTROL VALUE TO STOP THE EMERGENCY (PARKING) BRAKE PROBLEM. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE MANAGER, THE DEFECT IN THE COOLANT CONTROL VALUE CAUSED THE EMERGENCY (PARKING) BRAKE TO ENGAGE BECAUSE IT GENERATED A "HIGHER" FREQUENCY TO THE COMPUTER OVERRIDING THE BRAKE. I FILED A CONCERN WITH THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY. THEY WERE CONCERNED AND SUGGESTED THAT I FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. MY CONCERN IS WITH THE EMERGENCY (PARKING) BRAKE ENGAGING FOR NO REASON WHILE YOUR DRIVING THE VEHICLE . THIS CAUSES ME CONCERNS FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY AND OTHERS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 LINCOLN LS. THE CONTACT STATED THE TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP AND THE ABS BRAKE SENSOR WERE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE CONTACTS EXPENSE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED REGARDING THE FAILURE BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,837.
ON JULY 4, 2009 WHILE TRAVELING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY DRIVING AT THE SPEED OF 60 MPH THE ACCELERATION STOPPED FUNCTIONING WITHOUT WARNING. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THIS ISSUE EVER OCCURRED. TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A FORD DEALERSHIP TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED AND WHILE LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP ON ANOTHER MAJOR HIGHWAY THE ISSUE HAPPENED 3 TIMES AFTER THE REPAIR WAS SAID TO BE COMPLETED. BOTH TIMES THE ISSUE OCCURRED MY FAMILY AND I WAS IN A NEAR FATAL ACCIDENT. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP ON THAT SAME DAY. AFTER A DAY OF DIAGNOSTIC THE DEALERSHIP COULD NOT EXPLAIN TO ME WHAT WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. FINALLY, THE DEALERSHIP CALLED AND STATED THAT A RADIO FREQUENCY WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE COILS. AT THIS POINT I DON'T THINK THE CERTIFIED TECHNICIANS OR THE DEALERSHIP KNOW HOW TO REPAIR THE ISSUE. I DO KNOW THAT THE SERVICE MANAGER WANT ME TO KEEP PAYING MONEY UNTIL THEY STUMBLE UPON A SOLUTION. I REFUSE TO PUT MY FAMILY ON THE HIGHWAY A THIRD TIME WITH THIS ONGOING ISSUE. MAYBE NEXT TIME WE WON'T BE SO LUCKY.
FORD LINCOLN MERCURY~MANUFACTURE WARRANTY EXTENDED ON IGNITION COIL - BUT EACH TIME IGNITION COIL GOES OUT IT CAUSES NUMEROUS "OTHER REPAIRS" COSTING $900+ EACH TIME.~ VEHICLES BEGINS TO RUN ROUGH, THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE GOES TO TOP, THE CAR LOOSES POWER (WHILE IN TRAFFIC EVEN THOUGH FOOT ON ACCELERATOR) WILL NOT ACCELERATE~ 5 TIMES IN LESS THAN 11 MONTHS~ THESE "OTHER REPAIRS DONE EACH TIME IGNITION COIL IS REPLACED SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER EXTENDED MANUFACTURE WARRANTY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 LINCOLN LS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 30 MPH WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE AND WRENCH WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. WHENEVER THE LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED, THE VEHICLE WOULD DECELERATE AND THEN STALL FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE SECONDS. THE ENGINE WOULD HAVE TO BE TURNED OFF AND THEN RESTARTED IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO RESET ITSELF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE EMISSION COIL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE EMISSION COIL WAS REPLACED HOWEVER THREE WEEKS AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE VEHICLE BEGIN EXHIBITING SIGNS OF THE SAME FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,958.
ON MAY 13TH, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY DRIVER'S SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG DEPLOYED. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO AVOID A WRECK BUT DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE INTERIOR AND MY LEFT EAR WAS DONE. *TR
SINCE PURCHASING THIS CAR, ITS BEEN NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. THE PROBLEMS I'VE EXPERIENCED AREN'T ANY DIFFERENT FROM ALL THE OTHER LS OWNERS. COIL PACKS GOING BAD, THE A/C BLOWING HOT AIR, THE CAR GOING INTO FAIL SAFE MODE WHILE ON THE FREEWAY, THE SMELL OF GASOLINE INSIDE THE CAR. IT LOOKS LIKE THESE ISSUES HAVE BEEN GOING ON SINCE FORD STARTED PRODUCING THE CAR. NOW WONDER THEY NEEDED BAILOUT MONEY. I GOT IN MY CAR THIS MORNING AND IT WENT INTO FAIL SAFE MODE 3X'S BEFORE I COULD GET OUT OF THE DRIVE WAY! ALL OF THESE ISSUES WITH THIS CAR DATING AS FAR BACK AS 2001, AND NO RECALLS, C'MON MAN. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TIRES ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WERE WEARING MUCH FASTER THAN THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN, BUT THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000. ..UPDATED 11/28/12 *BF THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE HAD AN OIL LEAK IN THE OIL PAN. SHE HAD IT FIXED,. HOWEVER, THE DEALER STATED ANOTHER OIL LEAK HAS SURFACED SOME WHERE ELSE. UPDATED 11/29/12
I HAVE CONTINUED TO HAVE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS WITH MY LINCOLN LS SINCE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW. NOW IT IS IN THE SHOP OFFICIALLY FOR WHAT APPEARS TO BE AN EXPENSIVE BILL IN TOUGH TIMES. I FOUND THAT THE PROBLEM IS CONSISTENT WITH THE LINCOLN LS OWNERS. THIS SHOULD QUALIFY FOR SOME TYPE OF RECALL. I DO NOT DRIVE AT ERRATIC SPEEDS THAT WOULD WEAR THE TRANSMISSION. ESPECIALLY WHEN IT WAS BRAND NEW. PLEASE DO SOMETHING, LINCOLN OWNERS SUPPORT AMERICAN AUTOMOTIVE COMPANY'S AND THIS IS THE RESULT. MAKE GOOD ON AMERICAN PRODUCTS!!! *TR
I HAVE A REPEATED PROBLEM WHERE EXCESSIVE CORROSION AROUND THE WHEEL RIM CAUSES A LOSS OF TIRE PRESSURE. I HAVE TO REPEATEDLY HAVE A MECHANIC GRIND AND RESEAL THE WHEEL RIM. BEAD SEALER ALONE IS INEFFECTIVE DUE TO THE LEVEL OF CORROSION. I CAN LOSE 15 -20 LBS OF PRESSURE IN AN HOUR WHEN THIS OCCURS. I HAVE HAD TWO TIRES THAT HAVE BEEN DAMAGED BY A RAPID LOSS OF PRESSURE. I AM CONCERNED TO TAKE THE CAR ON LONGER TRIPS BECAUSE I HAVE TO REPEATEDLY CHECK THE TIRE PRESSURE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 LINCOLN LS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS BECOMING STUCK WHILE ATTEMPTING TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 65 MPH, SHE FELT AS IF SOMETHING WERE STUCK UNDERNEATH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND IT WOULD RESIST FORCE. THE DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE DIAGNOSTIC DETERMINED THAT THE THROTTLE FAILED. THE FAILURE PERSISTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO INSTALLED A THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL, GASKET, AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL SENSOR TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. AFTER THE REPAIRS, THE PARKING BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE MECHANIC ASSURED HER THAT THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED AND THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DISPLAYED A FAULTY WARNING MESSAGE. TO DATE, THE FAILURE STILL CANNOT BE DUPLICATED AND THE CONTACT IS AWAITING THE ARRIVAL OF A PART THAT WOULD APPARENTLY REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,295 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
THE LEFT REAR WHEEL/TIRE ASSEMBLY FAILED TO HOLD AIR. A LOCAL TIRE MERCHANT SAID THAT THIS IS CAUSED BY THE CHROME PLATING SEPARATING FROM THE ALUMINUM ALLOY WHEEL. THE DEALER AND LINCOLN-MERCURY SAID THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO BRAKE DUST GETTING ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE WHEEL. THEY CLAIMED THAT THIS WAS NOT A DEFECT IN THE PRODUCT AND REFUSED A WARRANTY CLAIM. THEY WERE UNABLE TO EXPLAIN HOW DUST ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE WHEEL COULD CAUSE THE SURFACE INSIDE THE TIRE TO FAIL AND LEAK AIR UNTIL THE TIRE WAS FLAT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN GLENNIE MI ON VACATION AND THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG WENT OFF. I WAS NOT IN ANY ACCIDENT, NOTHING HIT MY CAR. I WAS DRIVING AROUND 40-50 MPH. I NOW HAVE A BRUISE UNDER MY LEFT SHOULDER AND HAVE HAD SEVERAL HEADACHES. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A FAILED ENGINE COIL THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INFORMED WHAT WAS ALLOWING WATER TO ENTER THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 6,000.

I AM HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY 2005 LINCOLN LS V8 WITH ADVANCE TRAC. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE ABS SYSTEM ENGAGES UNDER NORMAL DRY DRIVING CONDITIONS AND STAYS ON FOR OVER ONE MINUTE. YOU CAN HEAR SOMETHING LIKE A MOTOR AND CLICKING LEADING UP TO THE INCIDENT AND THIS HAPPENS EVEN WHEN YOU ARE NOT ON THE BRAKES. WHEN YOU DO GO TO APPLY THE BRAKES IT IS LIKE YOU ARE ON ICE. THE CHECK ADVANCE TRAC LIGHT APPEARS AND THE YELLOW TRAC CONTROL BUTTON FLASHES AND THAN STAYS ON SOLID. EVEN WHEN THE CAR HAS COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND THAN YOU PROCEED TO DRIVE IT WILL DO IT AGAIN UNTIL THE CAR IS SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED. THE SYSTEM "ACTS" UP OUT OF THE BLUE AND YOU REALLY NEVER KNOW WHEN THE BRAKES ARE GOING TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER MANY TIMES AND THEY WERE ABLE TO SEE ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH, BUT ARE NOT ABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY HAVE PULLED CODES FOR THE PROBLEM BUT FORD ONLY ADVISED THEM TO REPROGRAM THE COMPUTER. THEY HAVE DONE THIS MULTIPLE TIME AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL NOT FIXED. FORD IS GIVING ME THE RUN AROUND AND SAID THEY ARE NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING FOR ME. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 LINCOLN LS. WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE AND NOTICED THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE DID NOT IMPACT ANYTHING TO CAUSE THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIR BAG. THE DRIVER WAS INJURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE FLOOR UNDERNEATH THE SEAT WHICH WAS CAUSED BY A FOREIGN OBJECT ON THE ROAD. THE FOREIGN OBJECT MADE CONTACT WITH THE SIDE AIR BAG SENSOR, WHICH CAUSED THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE SIDE AIRBAG. THE VEHICLE WAS SENT TO A COLLISION INSPECTION FACILITY, AND,THEY WERE UNABLE TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS SENT TO A DIFFERENT DEALER. THE SECOND DEALER STATED THAT THE SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED DUE TO DEBRIS HITTING THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 25,000 MILES. *AK

MY COMPANY LEASED THIS 2005 LINCOLN LS IN AUGUST 2005 FROM BOB MAXEY LINCOLN-MERCURY IN DETROIT. ON TUESDAY 10/4/2005 I WENT OUT TO THE CAR IN MY DRIVEWAY TO DRIVE MY CHILDREN TO SCHOOL. THERE WAS A STRONG SMELL OF GAS BY THE CAR. I DROPPED THE CHILDREN OFF AT SCHOOL, THEN PROCEEDED TO MY OFFICE. THE CAR SAT IN THE PARKING LOT UNTIL NOON WHEN I WENT OUT TO MAKE CUSTOMER CALLS. AGAIN, THERE WAS A STRONG SMELL OF GAS. I FOUND GAS DRIPPING DOWN FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE GAS TANK. AS I CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY ISSUE, I DROVE THE CAR TO BOB MAXEY LINCOLN-MERCURY TO FIND THE CAUSE OF THE LEAK. I WAS TOLD THAT I HAD HIT SOMETHING WITH THE GAS TANK, CAUSING A PUNCTURE AND THE SUBSEQUENT LEAK. THE DEALER WOULD NOT COVER THE TANK REPLACEMENT UNDER WARRANTY AND SAID IT WOULD COST $850.00 TO REPLACE. I HAD TO SUBMIT TO THE REPAIR CHARGE AS I NEED THE CAR AND IT IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE A VEHICLE WITH A FUEL LEAK. CONSEQUENCES INCLUDE LOSS OF GASOLINE AND THE REAL POTENTIAL OF A THERMAL EVENT, OR FIRE. THIS COULD BE CATASTROPHIC TERMS OF VEHICLE DAMAGE AND POSSIBLE LOSS OF LIFE. I FOUND A RECALL NOTICE FROM FORD, #05S29, ON THE NHTSA WEB SITE FOR 2005 LINCOLN LS FUEL SYSTEMS. THE RECALL INVOLVED FUEL TANKS WITH THIN WALL SECTION IN THE LOWER HALF OF THE TANK THAT MAY CRACK. THE DATA FOR THE RECALL WAS SUPPLIED BY THE TANK MANUFACTURER TO FORD AS STATED IN THE RECALL DOCUMENTS AVAILABLE ON THE NHTSA WEB SITE. I THINK THE SUPPLIER OF THE FUEL TANK AND FORD MOTOR COMPANY DID NOT INVESTIGATE THE POTENTIAL MANUFACTURER DEFECTS LEADING UP TO THE PARTS ON THE RECALL. I BELIEVE I HAVE AN EXAMPLE OF THE EARLY DEFECTIVE SIDE WALL ISSUE THAT THE FUEL TANK SUPPLIER DID NOT REPORT TO FORD. I THINK FORD SHOULD EXPAND THEIR INVESTIGATION OF THIS ISSUE AND REPLACE ALL DEFECTIVE FUEL TANKS. *JB

FORD HAS REFUSED TO FIX THE VEHICLE CLAIMING THAT I "MUST HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THE DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER CODE". ONLY THE ONE BAG DEPLOYED, DAMAGING THE SEAT AND THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT RETRACTOR MOLDING. NO ONE WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AT THE TIME.

ON 19TH WEEK OF 2004 APPEARANCE OF THE STEEL CORD EXPOSED IN SIDEWAY APPEARS VERY THIN. DEALER AGREED TO REPLACE TIRE, BUT HAVEN'T GOTTEN CAR TO DEALER YET. CALL TO CONTINENTAL COMPLAINT CENTER (1800-847-3349) RESULTED IN A STATEMENT THAT THE TIRE WAS NOT KNOWN TO HAVE ANY ISSUES. MY OBVIOUS CONCERN IS THE SAFETY OF THIS TIRE BUT CONTINENTAL SAID THERE IS NO SAFETY ISSUE!!!
