DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 62 MPH, THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG ON THE DRIVER SIDE DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALERSHIP AND MANUFACTURER WERE ALERTED, BUT NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. UPDATED 03/22/06. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE REAR END WAS MAKING A GRINDING NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THE REAR TIRES WERE REPLACED. THE NOISE PERSISTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER DETERMINED THE REAR SUSPENSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 04V328000, REGARDING THE REAR SUSPENSION. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER, IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN.
GRINDING NOISE IN REAR AXLE. *NM
IN 2003 LINCOLN TOWN CAR WHEN THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED IT SHOT OFF THE ROUND SILVER LINCOLN EMBLEM WHICH SEVERELY LACERATED MY NOSE. THANK GOD IT DID NOT TAKE OUT AN EYE. I HAVE NOTICED ON THE NEWER MODELS THAT THE EMBLEM IS NOW EMBEDDED IN THE MATERIAL SO IT CANNOT FLY OFF AND CAUSE INJURY. *JB
2003 LINCOLN TOWN CAR CUSTOMER STATES THAT THE BACK WHEELS LOCKED WHILE DRIVING**CC THE CONSUMERS WIFE WAS MAKING A SLOW LEFT TURN WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY JERKED TO A STOP RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TURN. WHEN SHE PLACED THE VEHICLE INTO REVERSE AND THEN INTO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE DIDN'T MOVE FORWARD. SHE HAD TO PLAY WITH THE GEARS UNTIL THE VEHICLE FINALLY WENT FORWARD. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM ON 2 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. AFTER THE FOURTH OCCURRENCE, THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THEY FOUND A BROKEN PARKING BRAKE LINKAGE. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE IN REVERSE THE BACK UP ALARM SENSOR WAS NOT WORKING WHICH RESULTED IN THE VEHICLE STRIKING A MAILBOX. THERE WAS NOT A CRASH ,BUT SOME PROPERTY DAMAGE. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE ALARM SENSOR UNDER WARRANTY AND DETERMINED IT HAD MALFUNCTIONED. SINCE THE REPAIR THERE HAVE BEEN NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. *AK UPDATED 11/29/05. *JB
DT: 2003 LINCOLN TOWN CAR. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING GEAR OIL ON THE REAR AXLE. THE CONSUMER NOTICED IT WHEN THE OIL FORMED ON THE GROUND OF HIS GARAGE. THE DEALERSHIP DID A DIAGNOSTIC, AND FOUND A RECALL. HOWEVER, THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED PART 3W1Z-AA10A-AA, THE COMPLETE KIT, TWO REAR AXLES, TWO BEARINGS, TWO SEALS, AND THE OIL. THIS WAS THE KIT THE RECALL CALLED FOR. THE PROBLEM DID NOT CAUSE ANY ACCIDENTS OF INJURIES. THE CONSUMER DID CALL LINCOLN, BUT THEY ALSO SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. THIS HAPPENED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, BUT BOTH SIDES WERE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER KEPT THE PARTS.*AK
DT: THE CALLER SAID WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE MADE NOISE. DEALER SAID THE BEARINGS AND AXLES IN REAR WERE FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. RECALL 04V328000 WAS ISSUED CONCERNING REAR SUSPENSION, BUT DID NOT INCLUDE THIS VEHICLE. MANUFACTURER STATED THAT SINCE THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL THEY WILL OFFER ANY HELP FOR FREE. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT COMPLAINED ABOUT SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEMS. WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES VEHICLE DID NOT STOP BUT ACCELERATED 6-10 SECONDS. THIS WAS THE FOURTH INCIDENT. *AK THE THINKS IT IS A POSSIBILITY THE PEDALS ARE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER. *JB
DT: WHILE DRIVING DOWN A GRAVEL ROAD AT 40 MPH THE SIDE/CURTAIN AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE CALLER SAID SHE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING. DEALER ORDERED PARTS TO FIX IT, BUT THE INSURANCE COMPANY WANTED PICTURES FIRST. MANUFACTURER TOOK HER INFORMATION AND SAID THEY WILL LOOK INTO IT. CONSUMER SUSTAINED BACK AND NECK INJURIES. *AK THE RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED. *JB
WHEN VEHICLE ENGINE IS RUNNING AND TURN SIGNALS ARE ACTUATED, THE DIGITAL DASH, TURN SIGNALS, AND AIR CONDITIONER CUTS OFF. ADDITIONALLY, STEERING EFFORT INCREASES SUBSTANTIALLY, ABS CYCLES OFF AND BACK ON WHEN THE POWER IS RESTORED. THE DURATION MAY BE MOMENTARY (LESS THAN 5 SECONDS) OR LAST FOR A MINUTE OR LONGER. FREQUENCY IS 80+ PERCENT OF THE TIME WHEN THE TURN SIGNALS ARE ENGAGED (LEFT OR RIGHT). I HAVE HAD ANOTHER FORD VEHICLE WHICH GAVE PROBLEMS WITH THIS MULTI-FUNCTION SWITCH ALSO. FORD HAS A POORLY DESIGNED TURN SIGNAL-WINDSHIELD WIPER-WASHER SWITCH COMPOUNDED BY THE FACT POWER IS SHUNTED THROUGH THIS SWITCH ALL THE TIME, CAUSING OVERHEATING AND PREMATURE FAILURES. THIS LINCOLN IS NOT AN INCOMPLETE VEHICLE. THE LAST LINE OF THE VEHICLE DETAILL FORM NEEDS A 2ND ALTERNATIVE OR WEBMASTER NEEDS TO PROVIDE FOR THE DEFAULT CHOICE (--).
DT: HAVING PROBLEM WITH ENGINE, VEHICLE ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN, WITH NO WARNING. PUT CAR IN REVERSE IT ROARS UP, AND PUT VEHICLE IN DRIVE AND IT TAKES OFF ON IT OWN. AFTER SHIFTING THE GEAR INTO DRIVE THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED FORWARD. THE CONSUMER HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES HARD, SHIFT THE GEAR INTO NEUTRAL AND TURN OFF THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME. *JB *SB *NM

"ROARING" NOISE FROM THE REAR END AT 30-50 MPH. DEALER (METROPOLITAN LINCOLN-MERCURY IN LOUISVILLE, KY) DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS WORN REAR AXLES AND AXLE BEARINGS. AXLES, BEARINGS, SEALS, AND BRAKE ROTORS WERE REPLACED AT A COST TO ME OF $932. I WAS TOLD THERE IS A RECALL TO FIX THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE OF A EARLY FAILURE IN THE AXLE SHAFTS DUE TO AN INADEQUATE HEAT TREATING, BUT MY VEHICLE WAS "NOT ON THE LIST" THAT QUALIFIED. A RECALL WAS RECEIVED ON WHEEL BEARINGS. CONSUMER CONTACTED DEALER, AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE PART WAS NOT IN. AFTER MAKING SEVERAL ATTEMPTS THE PART WAS NOT IN YET. *AK RECALL NUMBER : 04V328000 *TC
WHILR SITTING BEHIND ANOYJER VEHICLE IN A PARKING LOT WITH FOOT ON BRAKE ENGINE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE AND CAR TO MOVE FORWARD. AS ENGINE INCREASED IN ACCELERATION I PUT TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL, ENGINE THEN WENT TO REDLEINE RPM. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND WAITED A MOMENT AND RESTARTED CAR WHICH THEN PERFORMEND NORMALLY. I HAVE HAD VEHICLE IN DEALERSHIP FOR ACTION ON PROBLEM, BUT BECAUSE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM THEY WERE UNABLE TO RESOLVE SAME.*AK

MANUFACTURER AND DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO HONOR AXLE SHAFT FRACTURE RECALL 04V328000 BECAUSE RECALL NOTICE WAS SENT TO THE CONSUMER IN ERROR.*AK
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT ANY SPEED CONSUMER HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR SUSPENSION. THE DEALERSHIP INSPECTED THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE OR CORRECT THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *JB
AIR CONDITIONER BEGAN BLOWING WARM (OUTSIDE AIR) AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND DRIVING ON ACCESS ROADS OR 55MPH THE AC WORKED JUST FINE. AILED TWICE MORE UNDER SAME CIRCUMSTANCES. LINCOLN SVC CENTER DIANGOSED AS POSSIBLE COMPRESSOR FAILURE AND ORDERED NEW COMPRESSOR AND NEW DRYER FOR INSTALLATION. DO NOT KNOW IF OLD PARTS ARE AVAILABLE.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 30-60 MPH THE VEHICLE WOULD SURGE CONTINUOUSLY WHEN THE ENGINE WAS UNDER LOAD. AS A RESULT THE VEHICLE DID NOT RIDE SMOOTHLY. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK THE DEALER CHANGER THE ERG VALVE, FUEL PUMP, FUEL SENSORS, SPARK PLUGS AND COIL BUT THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURRED. *NM
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 LINCOLN TOWN CAR. THE CONTACT NOTICED GREASE ON THE WHEELS AND TIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT BEARINGS, AXLES, AND REAR BRAKES WERE NEEDED. THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME IN FOUR YEARS THAT THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V328000 (SUSPENSION:REAR). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 66,745. A LOUD CLUNK/POP SOUND IS HEARD AND FELT AT THE RIGHT REAR FLOORBOARD AREA. DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT VERIFIED THE NOISE AS A FRAME/CHASSIS TWIST/POP, BUT RECOMMENDED NO REPAIRS. THEY WENT ON TO SAY THAT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM IN THE TOWNCAR, IT IS JUST THAT OURS IS VERY LOUD, AND THEREFORE NO WARRANTY FIX IS RECOMMENDED. WE ARE VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE CAR. 8JB
WHILE DRIVING AT 70 MPH, THE LATCH HOOD POPPED UP, PASSED THE WINDSHIELD AND CRUSHED THE ROOF. *AK *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH AND GOING OVER A RAISED EDGE ON THE ROAD RIGHT FRONT TIRE BLEW OUT, AND THEN THE RIGHT REAR TIRE BLEW OUT.CONSUMER HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. MICHELIN, EPX RADIAL. SIZE UNKNOWN/DOT# UNKNOWN. *AK
I HAD A FRONT END COLLISION IN MY 2003 LINCOLN TOWN CAR AND NEITHER THE DRIVERS SIDE NOR PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. IT WAS NOT UNTIL THE CAR HAD STOPPED AND I WAS GETTING OUT OF THE CAR THAT THE DRIVERS AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THE PASSENGER SIDE NEVER INFLATED. THE IMPACT TO MY VEHICLE WAS SO SEVERE THAT THE FRONT END IS COMPLETELY GONE AND THE HOOD WAS CRUMPLED BACK TO THE WINDSHIELD. THE ENGINE WAS PUSHED UP AGAINST THE FIREWALL. WHY DID MY AIRBAGS NOT INFLATE????!!!!!*AK
WE HAVE CONTACTED FORD/LINCOLN/MERCURY ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, THE LAST BEING MAY 17TH BY EMAIL. EVA WALKER BOUGHT A NEW LINCOLN TOWN CAR (CARTIER), SHE PAID CASH FOR THIS VEHICLE AND IT IS NOT HER FIRST LINCOLN. SINCE PURCHASE, MRS. WALKER HAS HAD HER VEHICLE IN TO SOUTHWEST LINCOLN-MERCURY, WEST POINT LINCOLN MERCURY, JACK ROACH FORD, AND CENTRAL FORD. EACH TIME THEY SAY THEY DO A REPAIR, BUT NO PAPER WORK IS EVER GIVEN AND THE PROBLEM HAS NEVER BEEN FIXED. THE CARTIER HAS AN AUTOMATIC OPEN AND CLOSE DECK LID. WHEN PUSHING THE BUTTON THE DECK LID WOBBLES AND SHAKES BOTH GOING UP AND COMING DOWN, THIS HAS CAUSED THE PAINT IN THE UPPER RT PART OF THE BUMPER TO COME OFF DUE TO THE DECK LID HITTING AGAINST IT. MRS. WALKER HAS REQUESTED NUMEROUS TIMES AT DIFFERENT DEALERS TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE IN THE DISTRICT OFFICE WITH F/L/M, BUT AS YET NO ONE HAS SHOWN THE COURTESY TO CALL HER. SHE HAS BEEN TOLD BY MORE THAN ONE DEALER THAT THERE IN NOT A FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM AND JUST TO "LIVE WITH IT". MRS. WALKER BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN GOOD FAITH THAT ALL COMPONENTS ON THIS VEHICLE WERE WORKING AS DESCRIBED BY THE MANUFACTURER AND BEING TOLD TO "LIVE WITH IT" IS UNACCEPTABLE. I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS COMPLAINT DOES NOT RANK UP THERE WITH SOME THAT ARE GIVEN, BUT TO AN 80+ YEAR OLD WOMAN, WHO HAS ONLY DRIVEN THIS VEHICLE 12,100 SINCE PURCHASE THIS IS A MAJOR DEAL. WE NEED SOME KIND OF HELP TO GET F/L/M TO STAND BEHIND WHAT THEY MAKE AND CONTACT US WITH A POSSIBLE SOLUTION. AS WE HAVE TRIED SEVERAL DEALERS IN OUR AREA, WE HAVE TRIED GOING THROUGH THE CHANNELS THEY REQUESTED FIRST. NOW WE WANT HELP GETTING ANSWERS.*AK
THIS IS A DESIGN FEATURE; UNDER THE DASHBOARD WHERE THE STEERING COLUMN IS LOCATED ISN'T ENOUGH CLEARANCE WHEN DRIVER ATTEMPTS TO BRAKE, HE MUST SLIDE HIS FOOT SIDE WAYS TO NOT MAKE CONTACT WITH CONSOLE. ALSO, THIRD BRAKE LIGHT AT NIGHT ILLUMINATES BRIGHTLY. THE DRIVER DESCRIBES THE PROBLEM AS "BLINDING". *AK

I WAS DRIVING AT 55 MPH WHEN THE DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE WENT FLAT ON MY 2003 LINCOLNN TOWN CAR. THIS CAR IS NEW - PURCHASED ONLY 44 DAYS AGO. THE TIRE HAD A PINHOLE PUNCTURE- NO NAIL WAS FOUND AND SIDEWALL WAS DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR. HIGHWAY WAS CLEAR AT TIME OF INCIDENT- CAR SWEVED BUT DID NOT HAVE ACCIDENT.*AK
CONSUMER STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AND WITHOUT WARNING THE HOOD LATCH SNAPPED . DEALER NOTIFIED AND DOES NOT WANT TO CLAIM RESPONSIBILITY FOR MALFUNCTION / DEFECT. *AK *CB
WHEN VEHICLE ENGINE IS PRIMARILY COLD AND YOU BEGIN TO START IN DRIVE RANGE THERE IS A RATTLE/VIBRATION THAT SOUNDS LIKE METAL STRIKING TOGETHER VERY RAPIDLY. NOISE IS COMING FROM THE ENGINE/FIREWALL AREA. IT'S AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM BUT VERY CONSISTANT AT COLD. DEALER HAS INSTALLED EXHAUST BALANCERS, REPLACED LEFT CATALYTIC CONVERTER, REPLACED VALVE ASSY- THROTTLE, RATTLE KIT, NEUTRALIZED ENGINE MOUNTS. NOISE REMAINS BUT LESS PRONOUNCED. VERY IRRITATING FORA VEHICLE OF THIS PRICE THAT ONLY HAS 5600 MILES ON IT. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN WORKED ON SINCE 5/14/03 VEHICLE PURCHASED FEBRUARY 2003. SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN GREAT, BUT PROBLEM STILL EXIST. *AK

DRIVER PUT VEHICLE IN DRIVE GEAR AND TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT. VEHICLES ENGINE REV UP TO FULL THROTTLE, AND ACCELERATED AT A HIGH SPEED CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. THIS RESULTED IN THE DRIVER BEING INJURED. TS

CONSUMER HAS A COMPLAINT WITH FORD ABOUT MULTIPLE RECALL REPAIRS (REAR AXLES, BEARING, AND SEAL RECALL) ON THE SAME VEHICLES AND FOR THE SAME MECHANICAL RECALL FAILURE. *NJ THE AXLE SEALS AND BEARINGS CAUSED DAMAGED TO THE REAR AXLE, WHICH REQUIRED REPLACEMENT OF THE REAR AXLE, REAL AXLE BEARINGS AND THE REAR AXLE SEALS. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE REQUIRED REPAIRS ON THE REAR AXLE TWICE. WATER LEAKED INTO THE VEHICLE. RECALL 04V328000 *JB
SUNLIGHT MAGNIFIED REFLECTION FROM DASHBOARD ONTO WINDSHIELD, IS VERY DISTRACTING AND BECOMES HARARDOUS TO DRIVER
THE HEAD RESTRAINTS IN THIS VEHICLE ARE NOT ADJUSTABLE THEREFORE THE CONSUMER FEELS THAT THEY MAY NOT PROVIDE ADEQUATE PROTECTION TO SHORT PASSENGERS IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. *MR *NLM *SCC
WHEN THE DRIVER'S LEFT FOOT WAS QUICKLY MOVED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL FROM ITS RESTING POSITION, IT ENCOUNTERED AN OBJECT ABOVE IT THAT GAVE THE IMPRESSION THE FOOT DID NOT REACH THE BRAKE PEDAL, WHICH RESULTED IN USING THE RIGHT FOOT WHICH CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE CONDITION WORSENED WITH THE BRAKE AND GAS PEDAL IN THE FULL DOWN POSITION THEN THE LEFT KNEE ENCOUNTERED THE STEERING WHEEL, WHICH GAVE THE IMPRESSION THE PEDAL WAS NOT REACHED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING BUT ADVISED TO HAVE VEHICLE MODIFIED. CONSUMER IS 5-9 IN HEIGHT AND WEIGHTS 180 LBS. INSTEAD, CONSUMER REPOSITIONED THE PLASTIC PANEL 14"X14" ABOVE THE DRIVER'S LEFT FOOT AND TIED UP THE SMALL LIGHT NORMALLY INSTALLED IN THE PANEL. AND MOVED THE MOVABLE BRAKE/GAS PEDAL FORWARD AND KEPT THE STEERING WHEEL FULLY UPWARD. THIS MADE THE VEHICLE SAFE TO DRIVE. *TT *JB
HEAD RESTRAINT CUSHION WAS POSITIONED AT AN ANGLE WITH THE TOP EXTENDING FURTHER FORWARD THAN THE BOTTOM WHICH RESULTED IN IT CONTACTING THE CONSUMER AT THE TOP EDGE OF THE REAR OF HIS HEAD. IN THE EVENT OF A SUDDEN STOP, THE BACKWARD MOTION OF CONSUMERS BODY WOULD FORCE CONSUMERS HEAD BACKWARD AND DOWN. THIS COULD CAUSE GREAT STRESS TO THE NECK. HEAD RESTRAINTS WERE PROPERLY ENGINEERED IN THE LINCOLN, TOWN CAR 2001, BUT NOT IN LINCOLN, TOWN CAR, 2003. REFER TO ODI#8022294 SCC *JB. *AK
