AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. TOOK TO DEALER AND THEY DIAGNOSED FAILURE OF THE DRIVER SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER AND REPLACED AT A COST OF $628. THIRTY DAYS LATER, AUGUST 13, AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. TOOK TO DEALER AND THIS TIME I WAS TOLD THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT PRETENSIONER WAS FAULTY AND REPLACED AT A COST OF $764. IT WOULD SEEM THAT A SAFETY REQUIREMENT SUCH AS THESE SHOULD LAST MORE THAN A 100,000 MILES? *TR
BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR ARE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER AND TOO OFTEN, WHEN PRESSING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED AS WELL CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ADVANCE (EITHER FORWARD OR IN REVERSE). I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER (MALOUF) AND WAS TOLD THEY FOUND NO DEFECT AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR SAFETY BULLETINS AND THERE WAS NOTHING TO DO. I SEE, FROM READING THE N.H.T.S.A. REPORTS THAT THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST COMMON COMPLAINTS AND THE SAFETY BOARD SHOULD FORCE FORD/LINCOLN TO INSTALL SOME DEVISE THAT PREVENTS ENGAGING BOTH THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR AT THE SAME TIME. *TR
I OWN A 2006 LINCOLN TOWNCAR. RECENTLY, WHILE ATTEMPTING TO COME TO A STOP THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. I WAS ABLE TO USE THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. A WEEK EARLIER MY WIFE HAD THE SAME THING OCCUR . THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALERSHIP AT THIS TIME. THE FAILURE MILEAGES WAS 43250. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN TOWN CAR. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGERS COULD NOT GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE UNLESS A DRIVER OR FRONT SEAT PASSENGER UNLOCKED THE DOOR. THE CHILD SAFETY LOCKS WERE NOT ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE EXPLAINED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THEY WOULD LOOK INTO THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,000. UPDATED 04/12/11*LJ UPDATED 05/05/11
THE PASSIVE RESTRAINT INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON AND REMAINED ON WITH AN AUDIBLE ALARM REPEATING 5 TIMES FOR 5 CYCLES, AND THEN REPEATING EVERY 15 MINUTES OR SO. I TOOK MY 2006 LINCOLN TOWN CAR TO A LINCOLN AUTHORIZED REPAIR STATION. PARTS WERE BACK ORDERED AND, AFTER APPROXIMATELY 3 WEEKS, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE INDICATOR LIGHT AND ALARM FUNCTIONED PROPERLY. THIS OCCURRED IN EARLY 2010 WITH APPROXIMATELY 46,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND WAS REPAIRED UNDER 5/50,000 MILE SAFETY DEVICE WARRANTY. THE PROBLEM REPEATED IN JULY, 2010 AND THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE SAME DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY WITH MILEAGE BEING 49386. PARTS WERE BACK ORDERED. AS OF 10-5-2010, THE PARTS HAVE NOT BEEN RECEIVED AND THE DEALER STATED THAT THE SUPPLIER TO FORD MOTOR COMPANY WAS OUT OF BUSINESS AND THE NEEDED PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE ONLY AVAILABLE FROM FORD MOTOR CO. DEALER STATED THAT SEAT BELT ARE FUNCTIONING AND HE THINKS THE AIR BAG WILL FUNCTION. I OWN A 2006 LINCOLN TOWN CAR, PURCHASED NEW. APPROXIMATELY ONCE OR TWICE PER YEAR THE VEHICLE WILL TRY TO ACCELERATE AS I AM BRAKING FOR A RED LIGHT OR A STOP SIGN. PLACING TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL POSITION SEEMS TO RESULT IN ENGINE SLOWING DOWN. TAKEN TO LINCOLN-MERCURY DEALERSHIP IN 3/07 AND 4/10. THE AIRBAG LIGHT WONT GO OFF. DON'T KNOW IF ITS NOT WORKING OR IS OUT OF THE GAS TO FILL IT UP IN CASE OF IMPACT. HAS A PICTURE WITH A PERSON WITH A SEATBELT ON AND A AIRBAG EXPLODED IN FRONT OF THEM EVEN WHEN THE SEAT BELTS ARE BEING USED. *TR

RAN ACROSS INTERSECTION ONCE BECAUSE COULD NOT STOP VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY. CONSUMER HAS HAD VEHICLE SERVICED AT SAFFARD LINCOLN MERCURY IN MD. 3110 AUTOMOBILE BLVD SILVER SPRING MD 20904. DEALER RUN COMPUTER TEST BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE INCIDENT. CONSUMER DENIES DUAL ACCEL/BRAKE PEDAL APPLICATION.
2006 LINCOLN TOWN CAR, FRONT RIGHT TIRE, COOPER CS4 TOURING, NEW 4/28/09, 10,275 MILES, WENT FLAT DURING 45 MILE DRIVE TO WORK. NO EVIDENCE OF PUNCTURE. SIDE WALL SCORED FROM DRIVING ON RIM OF WHEEL. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN TOWN CAR. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 10-15 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR WHEN IT WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN AND THE DRIVER VEERED OFF THE ROAD ONTO A GRASSY AREA AND SIDEWALK TO AVOID CRASHING INTO OTHER VEHICLES. IMMEDIATELY, THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THERE WERE NO INJURIES OR DAMAGES. THE FAILURE RECURRED WITHIN 500 FEET FROM THE PREVIOUS FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE STILL PERSISTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,740 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 23,782.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN TOWN CAR. THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LATCH BECAME STUCK AND THE DOOR COULD NOT BE OPENED FROM THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. A REAR PASSENGER WOULD BE UNABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED BY A MECHANIC. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 44,080.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN TOWNCAR. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 20 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT TIRE ROD FAILED. THE CONTACT LOSS CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE CAUSING A CRASH. THE POLICE WERE CALLED TO THE SCENE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INSURANCE COMPANY REPAIR SHOP FOR REPAIRS. THE FAILURE HAS NOT RECURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN TOWN CAR. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15-20 MPH ON AN ICY ROAD, THE VEHICLE BEGAN SLIDING SIDEWAYS. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A PARKED TRAILER ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED MAJOR DAMAGE TO THE PASSENGER SIDE DOORS, ROOF, AND DASHBOARD. THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS, WINDSHIELD, AND SIDE VIEW MIRROR WERE ALSO DAMAGED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MAJOR INJURIES DUE TO BROKEN GLASS THAT WAS EMBEDDED IN HIS SCALP, IN ADDITION TO A CONCUSSION. HE WAS TRANSPORTED TO A HOSPITAL BECAUSE HE WAS UNCONSCIOUS. THERE WERE NO PASSENGERS IN THE PARKED VEHICLE AND HE WAS THE ONLY PASSENGER IN HIS VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD BE IN CONTACT WITH HIM. THE GAS PEDAL IS LOCATED TOO CLOSE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. IT IS VERY EASY TO PRESS ON BOTH PEDALS AT THE SAME TIME. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME 4 TIMES IN THE SIX MONTHS I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THIS CAR. THE PROBLEM IS ALLEVIATED SOMEWHAT BY POSITIONING THE ADJUSTABLE BRAKE PEDAL AT THE MOST EXTENDED EXTREME, BUT IT IS STILL FAR TOO EASY TO DEPRESS BOTH PEDALS SIMULTANEOUSLY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN TOWN CAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAS ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN FIVE TIMES WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH. THE FIRST FAILURE OCCURRED ON OCTOBER 8, 2007. HE PLACED THE GEAR IN NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN AND, ON OCCASION, HE WOULD HAVE TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TWICE AND THE DIAGNOSIS INDICATED FAILURE CODES FOR THE POWERTRAIN, CONTROL MODULE, AND (THE DEC) ELECTRONIC CONTROL. THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER ON NOVEMBER 1, 2008. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY MAY BE UNABLE TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. A REPORT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULD CALL THE DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT HE WOULD RECEIVE A CALL FROM THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,311 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,390.
I HAVE A 2006 LINCOLN TOWN CAR. IT HAS A DRIVER ADJUSTMENT ON THE HEIGHT OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. EVEN WITH IT AT THE TOP, WHEN YOU APPLY THE BRAKES, THE ACCELERATOR IS SO CLOSE THAT YOU CAN PUSH IT ALSO. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. SEVERAL TIMES NOW, I HAVE AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT ONLY BECAUSE AN ONCOMING DRIVER MISSED ME. COMING UP TO A STOP SIGN, I'VE APPLIED THE BRAKES ONLY TO HAVE THE CAR JUMP FORWARD INTO TRAFFIC. *TR

THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN TOWNCAR. WHILE TRAVELING 30 MPH THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE FAILED. DROVE VEHICLE HOME, THEN TOOK TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THAT A BRACKET ON THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE FRACTURED. CAUSING THE WHEELS TO BECOME UNALIGNED AND THAT THE FAILURE WAS A FACTORY DEFECT. DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AT NO COST. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH, HE ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES AND HIS FOOT ACCIDENTALLY DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AS WELL. THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AS A RESULT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO ASSIST HIM SINCE THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO ALTER THE DESIGN OF THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000. UPDATED 6/7/12 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED HE HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WOULD OFTEN DEPRESS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AS OPPOSED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED EVERY SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN TOWN CAR. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A COMPLETE STOP, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED WHEN BRAKING FROM LOW SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE FELT AS IF IT WERE GLIDING TO A STOP AND STOPPING DISTANCE WAS INCREASED. THE DEALER ADVISED THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE CONTACT DEPRESSING BOTH THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS SIMULTANEOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 8,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 31,000.
OUR 2006 LINCOLN TOWN CAR, WITH 3,500 MILES, HAS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY DEFECT. WHEN ON AN INCLINE, FACING DOWNHILL, THE CAR WILL ROLL FORWARD WHILE IN REVERSE. IN ADDITION, IF THE CAR IS FACING UPHILL IN DRIVE, IT WILL ROLL BACKWARDS. THE CAR WILL REACH SPEEDS OF 6 MPH ROLLING IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF WHAT GEAR THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IS IN. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL NEAR ACCIDENTS TRYING TO EXIT PARKING LOTS. FORD STATES THEY SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED THIS INTO THE VEHICLE IN ORDER TO HAVE IT PASS EMISSIONS TESTING (THEY REDUCED THE IDLE SPEED AND ALTERED THE PERFORMANCE OF THE TORQUE CONVERTER). THEY HAVE PUT THEIR CUSTOMERS (SENIORS) AT RISK. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED BOTH REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOORS DID NOT HAVE A MANUAL DOOR LOCK, AND COULD ONLY BE OPENED OR CLOSED BY USING THE MANUAL OR POWER CONTROL WHICH WAS LOCATED ON THE LEFT FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THIS WAS THE WAY THE VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.

DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE POWER FAILED AND THE ENGINE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS STEERED ONTO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND EVENTUALLY RESTARTED. THE FAILURE HAD OCCURRED AT LEAST 50 TIMES AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, SOMETIMES RESTARTING RIGHT AWAY AND SOME TIMES AN HOUR WAS NEEDED BEFORE THE ENGINE WOULD RESTART. THE SERVICE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED. THE SERVICE DEALER HAD WORKED ON THE VEHICLE 4 TIMES. THE FIRST TIME THE RELAY (PART#4F1Z-14N089-AA) WAS REPLACED. THE SECOND TIME, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND GASKET WERE REPLACED. THE THIRD TIME THE SAME RELAY WAS REPLACED AS WELL AS THE WIRING HARNESS. THE FOURTH TIME, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER ASSEMBLY AND GASKET WERE REPLACED AGAIN. UPDATED 11/03/06.*JB

THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT WAS PROBABLY DEPRESSING BOTH THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS SIMULTANEOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 34,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN TOWNCAR. WHENEVER THE CONTACT ATTEMPTS TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, HE NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WILL SURGE FORWARD AND THE BRAKES WILL HESITATE TO ENGAGE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS WORKING PROPERLY. THE CONTACT HAD NOTICED THE FAILURE SINCE THE DAY THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. I BELIEVE THAT THE CAR IS SO DANGEROUS. I AM NOT WILLING TO LET ANYONE ELSE DRIVE IT. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR PROXIMATELY 54 YEARS. THIS HAS INCLUDED ALL KINDS OF CARS INCLUDING RACING SPORTS CARS AND BIG LUXURY CARS AND ALL TYPES OF EMERGENCY VEHICLES (INCLUDING FIRE TRUCKS AND AMBULANCES). I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE PLACEMENT OF THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THIS NEW CAR HAS ADJUSTABLE PEDALS. I DO DRIVE WITH MY HEAL ON THE FLOOR BOARDS AND ROCK MY FOOT BACK AND FORTH FROM THE GAS TO BRAKE TO STOP. I HAD JUST A FEW HUNDRED MILES ON MY NEW CAR AND AT A STOP LIGHT FOUND I COULD NOT STOP THE CAR. I ALMOST RAN INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. FORTUNATELY, I SHIFTED THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR BUT NOTICED THE ENGINE WAS RACING WHEN I CAME HOME I ALMOST RAN A STOP SIGN SINCE I COULD NOT STOP THE CAR WITHOUT SHIFTING IT INTO NEUTRAL. AND AFTER FINDING NOTHING WRONG THEY INSTALLED A COMPUTER WITH A BUTTON BY MY SEAT SO THAT IF THAT HAPPENED AGAIN I WOULD PUSH THE BUTTON AND THE COMPUTER WOULD REMEMBER THE LAST TWENTY SECONDS OF WHAT HAPPENED. BUT BY NOW I WAS USED TO THE PROBLEM AND WOULD PUSH THE BUTTON SLOWLY LIFT MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND I NOTICED THAT I WAS PROBABLY PUSHING ON THE ACCELERATORS AT THE SAME TIME I WAS PUSHING ON THE BRAKE. BASICALLY IF I PUSHED REAL HARD ON THE BRAKE MY FOOT WOULD GO DOWN AND PUSH ON THE ACCELERATOR. THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY THE DEALERSHIP WHEN THEY LOOKED AT THE COMPUTER. A CALL TO THE LINCOLN HEADQUARTERS TOOK DOWN ALL THIS INFORMATION FOR FUTURE REFERENCE AND TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO WORK THROUGH THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE NOTED THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED WITH OTHER DRIVERS OF 2005 TOWN CARS. I HAVE NOTICED IN THE NEWS MORE AND MORE FOLKS WHO HAVE DRIVEN INTO WALLS AND STATED THE CAUSE IS THAT THEY STEPPED ON THE GAS INSTEAD OF THE BRAKE. *JB

I WAS STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN, WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO 2,500 RPMS. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR WITH THE BRAKE AND AVOID HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, BUT EVEN AFTER STOPPING THE CAR IT WAS STILL RUNNING AT 2,500 RPMS FOR ANOTHER COUPLE OF SECONDS BEFORE THEN RETURNING TO IDLE AT 500RPM. THIS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES THAT DAY AND IT'S VERY SCARY TO SAY THE LEAST. EACH TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS BRAKING THE CAR (LUCKILY) AND WAS ABLE TO BRAKE HARDER AND STOP THE CAR. AFTER STOPPING THE CAR THE ENGINE WAS STILL RACING FOR A FEW SECONDS. *JB

THISWAS DANGEROUS AS IT TOOK ATTENTION AWAY FROM THE ROAD MANY TIMES. THE DEALER STATED THAT WAS THE WAY ITWAS BUILT, BUT CANNOT LINCOLN COME UP WITH A RETROFIT FIX? THEIR ENGINEERS SHOULD TAKE A RIDE IN A LATE MODEL HONDA ACCORD TO SEE WHAT THE PANEL SHOULD LOOK LIKE IN THE DAYLIGHT.*AK
