TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 LINCOLN TOWN CAR. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL POPPING NOISE AND THE MOON ROOF DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FRAME AROUND THE ROOF WAS RUSTED. THE CONTACT HAD WORK PERFORMED INSIDE THE VEHICLE THROUGH AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE LOCAL DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 267,000. CONSUMER STATED GLASS ROOF LEFT THE CAR DRIVE WAS UNAWARE. MOON ROOF WAS INSTALLED BY DEALERS SUB CONTRACTOR. UPDATED 8/1/18*JB
BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR ARE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER AND TOO OFTEN, WHEN PRESSING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED AS WELL CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ADVANCE (EITHER FORWARD OR IN REVERSE). I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER (MALOUF) AND WAS TOLD THEY FOUND NO DEFECT AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR SAFETY BULLETINS AND THERE WAS NOTHING TO DO. I SEE, FROM READING THE N.H.T.S.A. REPORTS THAT THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST COMMON COMPLAINTS AND THE SAFETY BOARD SHOULD FORCE FORD/LINCOLN TO INSTALL SOME DEVISE THAT PREVENTS ENGAGING BOTH THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR AT THE SAME TIME. *TR
THE GAS PEDAL IS LOCATED TOO CLOSE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. IT IS VERY EASY TO PRESS ON BOTH PEDALS AT THE SAME TIME. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME 4 TIMES IN THE SIX MONTHS I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THIS CAR. THE PROBLEM IS ALLEVIATED SOMEWHAT BY POSITIONING THE ADJUSTABLE BRAKE PEDAL AT THE MOST EXTENDED EXTREME, BUT IT IS STILL FAR TOO EASY TO DEPRESS BOTH PEDALS SIMULTANEOUSLY. *TR
WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND PUSHING BRAKE PEDAL ,ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS TOO CLOSE TO BREAK PEDAL CAUSING IT TO BE PUSHED CAUSING ENGINE TO ACCELERATE CREATING A DANGEROUS SITUATION ON MY 2006 LINCOLN TOWN CAR. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH ILLUMINATION TO CLEARLY SEE THE READINGS IN DAYLIGHT HOURS. THE LACK OF ILLUMINATION IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DEFERS CONCENTRATION FROM THE ROAD, WHEN VIEWING DISPLAYED INFORMATION. THE DEALER WAS INFORMED OF THE PROBLEM WHO DETERMINED THE ONLY SOLUTION WAS TO TURN UP THE BRIGHTNESS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TO FULL, WHICH HAD ALREADY DONE. THE DEALER OFFERED NO OTHER SOLUTION.
