INSPECTION AGENCY FOUND THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE WAS CORRODED TO THE POINT OF NEAR FAILURE. HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT A REPLACEMENT USING A USED CHASSIS WILL COST OVER $1500. I HAVE LIVED IN NEW JERSEY/PENNSYLVANIA FOR ALL BUT 8 MONTHS I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR SINCE 2009. FROM READING ABOUT OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE, IT SEEMS THE ENGINE CRADLES WERE NOT MADE TO HANDLE THOSE WINTER CONDITIONS. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL GENERATE A RECALL SINCE IT SEEMS LIKE A COMMON OCCURRENCE. I ALSO HAD TO HAVE MY FRONT AXLE REPLACED ABOUT A YEAR AGO FOR A RUSTING ISSUE THAT MAY HAVE BEEN DUE TO THE SAME MATERIAL CORROSION.
I BACKED OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, WHICH HAS A SLIGHT CURB TO IT, AND HEARD A CLUNK OR POP FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR. DROVE DOWN MY STREET AND TO A HIGHWAY ON-RAMP AND WHILE TURNING ONTO THE RAMP THE STEERING FELT LOOSE (REQUIRED MORE STEERING ANGLE THAN NORMAL TO TURN SAME AMOUNT). WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, TO KEEP THE CAR STRAIGHT, THE WHEEL NEEDED TO BE HELD TURNED LEFT ~20DEGREES. I DROVE TO THE 1ST EXIT TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY RIGHT AWAY, AND WHILE APPLYING BRAKES, THE CAR PULLED TO THE RIGHT. GOING ON CITY STREETS TO TRY TO RETURN HOME, A TRAFFIC LIGHT TURNED YELLOW, AND APPLIED BRAKES AGAIN AND CAR PULLED ALMOST OVER INTO THE RIGHT HAND LANE. IMMEDIATELY PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND CALLED A TOWTRUCK, AND TOWED IT TO A SHOP. PICTURES FROM INSPECTION PERFORMED BY THE SHOP ARE ATTACHED.
STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT. WE THOUGHT IT NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT NUT 2 DAYS LATER THE STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT. THIS WAS DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP TO DISCOVER THE SUB FRAME HAS RUSTED INTO TWO. $1700 MINIMUM TO REPAIR WITH A USED PART.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND NOTICED MY STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO NOT BE ALIGNED. I THEN NOTICED THE STEERING RESPONSE WASN'T THERE LIKE IT USUALLY WAS. I WAS ON A HIGHWAY AND THE CAR STARTED STEERING AS IF IT WERE A BOAT. A DELAY IN THE STEERING RESPONSE WAS CREATING A DANGEROUS DRIVING EXPERIENCE. I BROUGHT IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAD TOLD ME THAT THE PART THAT HOLDS EVERYTHING TOGETHER HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. I COULD NOT TAKE THE CAR BACK WITH ME AS IT WAS TOO UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON THE ROAD. IT'S BEEN 4 WEEKS NOW AND STILL MY CAR SITS AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE CAR DOESN'T EVEN HAVE 90K ON IT AND IS IN GREAT CONDITION OTHER THAN THAT. FOUR WEEKS OF NO CAR AND NO WORD ON ANYTHING ABOUT HOW IT'S GOING TO GET FIXED HAS COST ME MONEY IN RENTALS AND ALSO KEPT ME FROM GETTING TO ALL THE JOBS I NEED TO GET TO. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON MY OWN SINCE I KEEP CALLING AND THEY KEEP TELLING ME THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON WITH IT, I'M NOTICING SO MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME CAR HAVING THE SAME EXACT ISSUE. THIS ISN'T A WEAR AND TEAR ISSUE LIKE BRAKES OR TIRES. THIS IS A MANUFACTURING AND ENGINEERING ISSUE THAT HAS FAILED. ANY INFORMATION ON THIS WOULD BE GREAT!
WENT TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE MECHANICS TODAY FOR A LOUD HUMMING NOISE. COME TO FIND OUT MY FRONT CROSS MEMBER IS ROTTED OUT. THIS SEAMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM. THE AC LEAKS RIGHT ON THE SUSPENSION. CAN'T WAIT TO SEE WHAT THIS IS GOING TO COST.
I PURCHASED A USED 2009 MAZDA 6 ALMOST A YEAR AGO (NOVEMBER 2017). THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO BE IN FAIRLY GOOD CONDITION. THE SELLER WAS UP FRONT WITH ANY AREAS OF CONCERN AND FIXED THE ISSUES I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT BEFORE THE VEHICLE LEFT THE LOT. I HAD NO ISSUES WITHTHE VEHICLE THERE AFTER. AN AIR BAG PART WAS RECALLED ON THE VEHICLE THAT REQUIRED MAINTENANCE FROM THE MAZDA DEALERSHIP. UPON HAVING THE RECALLED PART CORRECTED THE DEALERSHIP WORKER INFORMED ME THAT I SHOULD BE CONCERNED ABOUT THE FRONT SUB FRAME WHICH IS A COSTLY REPAIR. TWO MONTHS LATER, STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO COME UP WITH THE MONEY FOR THIS REPAIR, I NOTICED AND ISSUE WITH THE STEERING. I HAD THE VEHICLE ASSESSED ONLY TO FIND THAT THE RUSTED SUBFRAME IS THE CAUSE OF MY CONCERN. WENT ONLINE AND TO MY GREAT SURPRISE I AM NOT THE ONLY 2009 MAZDA 6 OWNER EXPERIENCING THIS. THIS IS A TRAVESTY.
THIS PAST WEEK, WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE TO AND FROM WORK ON A PUBLIC ROADWAY, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS OFF-CENTER AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHIFT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT. I TOOK IT TO AN AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME THE SUB FRAME IS COMPLETELY SPLIT IN HALF AND ALL CORRODED. THE VEHICLE IS UNDRIVEABLE RIGHT NOW. IT'S GOING TO BE VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MAZDA MAZDA6. WHILE DRIVING AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE VEERED TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO CHANGED THE BRAKE PADS, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT SUBFRAME OF THE VEHICLE WAS RUSTED AND CORRODED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED TO TOW THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALER (MORRIES MAZDA, 13700 WAYZATA BLVD, MINNETONKA, MN). THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED AND CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000. **TR CONSUMER STATED MAZDA USA IS REPLACING THE SUBFRAME FOR US. EITHER WAY THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE WITH CARS ON THE ROAD THAT COULD CAUSE MAJOR ACCIDENTS. THE SUB FRAME WAS SO RUSTED THAT YOU COULD PUT YOUR HANDS THROUGH IN MANY DIFFERENT PLACES. VERY DANGEROUS. UPDATED 10/26/18*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MAZDA 6. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING INSPECTED, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE ENGINE CRADLE AND CROSS MEMBER HAD EXCESSIVE RUST. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (SERRA MAZDA, 3363 S ARLINGTON RD, AKRON, OH 44312) WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MAZDA 6. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED PULLING TO THE RIGHT. IN ADDITION, THE TRACTION CONTROL AND DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL OFF WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 148,500.
IN AUGUST 6TH, 2018, I WAS DRIVING BACK FROM WORK WITH MY 4Y OLD SON IN QUEBEC CITY AT 50 KM/H. WHEN I WANT TO STOP AT THE RED-LIGHT I SENSED A SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL TO THE RIGHT AND I WAS COMPLETELY SHOCKED BECAUSE I WAS JUST ABOUT TO HIT A CYCLIST. AND MY SON WAS FRUSTRATED TOO. LUCKILY NOTHING BAD HAPPENED. BUT FROM THERE I WASN'T ABLE TO DRIVE CORRECTLY, I HELD THE STEERING WHEEL TO 60 DEGREES TO THE LEFT WHILE GOING AT 25 KM/H TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE STRAIGHT AND GET BACK TO MY HOME. THE FOLLOWING DAY I DROVE MY CAR TO THE NEAREST GARAGE, AND TO MY SURPRISE, THE GUY TOLD ME THAT THE SUBFRAME AT THE RIGHT NEAR TO THE WHEEL IS COMPLETELY CORRODED AND THE STEERING RACK WAS SEPARATED FROM ITS MOUNTS CAUSING THE STEERING LOSS. THE GARAGE OWNER TOLD THAT HE CALLED MAZDA TO ASK FOR A NEW SUBFRAME FOR ME, BUT THEY TOLD HIM THAT THEY DON'T HAVE IT IN STOCK AND THEY HAVE ALREADY 5 MORE PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WAITING FOR THAT. KNOWING THAT I DO RUST CHECK AND TREATMENT BEFORE EVERY WINTER. I AM VERY THANKFUL TO GOD THAT NOTHING BAD HAPPENED WHILE I WAS TRAVELING WITH MY FAMILY DURING OUR HOLIDAYS. MAZDA SHOULD RECOGNIZE THIS AS A SERIOUS AND VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT SINCE IT IS HAPPENING FOR A LOT OF PEOPLE.
THE FRONT OF THE SUB FRAME ON THE RIGHT SIDE HAS RUSTED AND THE CAR IS NOT DRIVEABLE. THE STEERING IS PRETTY MUCH DISABLED. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO THE SHOP WHICH IS A MILE AWAY. IT WILL TAKE TWO MONTHS TO REPAIR AS PARTS ARE NOT READILY AVAILABLE.
THIS CAR WAS BOUGHT USED. AFTER SUSPENSION INSPECTION I FOUND OUT THAT THE FRONT SUBFRAME IS EXTREMELY RUSTY AND IMMEDIATE REPLACEMENT IS NECESSARY. ACCORDING TO THE BODY CONDITION THERE WERE NO ANY INCIDENTS WHICH MAY AFFECTED THE SUBFRAME CONDITION. FURTHER DRIVING WITH THIS IS DANGEROUS.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS AT STATE INSPECTED, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUB FRAME WAS EXTREMELY CORRODED AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO MARKETPLACE MAZDA DEALER LOCATED AT 3755 W HENRIETTA RD, ROCHESTER, NY 14623, (585) 359-4900, FOR INSPECTION. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUB FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED OR NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,300.
MAZDA DEALER WAS PERFORMING A COUPLE OF RECALLS. THEY FOUND THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS SEVERELY RUSTED. SAID THAT IT NEEDED REPLACED BEFORE IT FAILED. SAID THAT ENGINE COULD DROP OUT OR PROBLEMS WITH STEERING IF THE SUBFRAME FAILED. 9 YEAR OLD CAR WITH 100,000 MILES AND NO OTHER RUST PROBLEMS IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE BECAUSE OF PROBLEM WITH THE SUBFRAME. I CONTACTED MAZDA BUT HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM THEM.
SUBFRAME RUST THE FRONT PASSENGER SUBFRAME IS SEVERELY RUSTED TO THE POINT THAT TMY LOCAL MAZDA DEALER (ALDEN MAZDA IN FAIRHAVEN, MA) DIDNT WANT TO PERFORM ROUTINE MAINTENANCE DUE TO THEIR CONCERNS OVER THIS VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AT THIS POINT. I DRIVE APPROXIMATELY 150 TO 200 MILES ON MOST DAYS AND I'M VERY CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY. I PURCHASED THE CAR ON FEBRUARY OF 2018 WITH ONLY 68,000 MILES ON IT. AS OF JULY 30TH 2018 IT'S AT APPROXIMATELY 79,000 MILES.
BOUGHT 2009 MAZDA 6 BRAND NEW. CAR HAS 140,000 MILES WELL MAINTAINED. I HAD TO SLAM ON MY BRAKES TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH A TRUCK PULLING A TRAILER. THE TRUCK WAS AT A STOP SIGN FACING WEST, I HAD RIGHT OF WAY DRIVING NORTH, TRUCK DRIVER PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF ME TURNING LEFT TO GO SOUTH. MY SPEED APROX.40MPH TO DEAD STOP.. MY VEHICLE NEVER LEFT THE ROAD OR NO IMPACT WITH OTHER VEHICLE. AS I STARTED TO DRIVE STRAIGHT, I HAD TO KEEP MY STEERING 20-30 DEGREES TO LEFT BECAUSE MY CAR PULLED HARD TO THE RIGHT. I PULLED OVER TO CHECK FOR FLAT TIRE. THAT WAS NOT THE ISSUE. I WAS ABLE TO TURN AROUND AND PROCEED TO A MAZDA DEALER APROX 2 MILES SOUTH . I LEFT THE CAR THERE FOR MAZDA TO INSPECT. THE SERVICE ADVISOR CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THE FRONT SUB FRAME HAD SPLIT/CRACKED DUE TO RUST CORROSION--"THATS NORTHEAST OHIO FOR YOU". REPAIR ESTIMATE $2000-$2500. REPAIRS ARE NOT DONE. DEALERSHIP HAS ALLOWED TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE IN THE PARKING LOT FOR A SHORT TIME. MY CAR CAN NOT BE DRIVEN. THE DEALERSHIP OFFERED TO WORK WITH ME TO "PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE " .
WHILE DRIVING MY 2009 MAZDA 6 AT 30 MPH ON A CITY STREET THE CAR VIOLENTLY PULLED TO THE RIGHT AND I HAD TO CUT THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT IN ORDER TO DRIVE STRAIGHT. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE CAR'S SUBFRAME HAD SIGNIFICANT RUST AND ROT AND WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THE CAR IS IN OTHERWISE GOOD CONDITION AND HAS APPROXIMATELY 65K MILES.
I WAS DRIVING AND MAKING A TURN WHEN A LOUD CLUNKING NOISE OCCURRED AND I LOST STABILITY OF THE CAR. IN ORDER TO MAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP (WHICH WAS WITHIN A MILE), I HAD TO TURN THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT AND DRIVE 10MPH TO MAINTAIN STABILITY. OVER THE 2 DAYS PREVIOUS TO THE EVENT I HEARD OCCASIONAL CLUNKING NOISES WHILE DRIVING. THE MECHANIC FOUND SIGNIFICANT RUST THAT HAD GONE THROUGH THE SUBFRAME ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE, RENDERING IT UNDRIVEABLE. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM THEY HAD BEEN SEEING AND THAT THE PART IS BACKORDERED MONTHS. THE REST OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE WAS MOSTLY RUST FREE EXCEPT FOR THE SUBFRAME.
DURING A RECENT ALIGNMENT, FOR MY 2009 MAZDA 6, I WAS INFORMED BY A MECHANIC THAT I COULD HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM IF THE "SUSPENSION CROSSMEMBER-ENGINE CRADLE" IS NOT REPLACED. AFTER BRINGING THE CAR TO A BODY SHOP, I WAS INFORMED IT WOULD NOT BE WISE TO DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL THIS PART IS REPLACED. I WAS QUOTED $1,800 DOLLARS FOR PARTS AND LABOR. FOR A WELL MAINTAINED CAR WITH LESS THAN 100,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER, I CONSIDER THIS AN EXTREME AND UNREASONABLE REPAIR.
ENGINE CRADLE/CROSSMEMBER IS SEVERELY DETERIORATED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. EXCESSIVE RUST AND HOLES IN THE STRUCTURE. MY CONCERN IS A SAFETY ISSUE IN DRIVING THE CAR AND HAVING IT STAY TOGETHER.
MY COMPLAINT IS REGARDING EXCESSIVE RUST/CORROSION OF THE SUBFRAME OF MY VEHICLE THAT WAS RECENTLY DISCOVERED DURING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. I AM AT JUST UNDER 113,000 MILES, AND THE CAR IS OTHERWISE IN GREAT CONDITION. I EXPECTED A GOOD FIVE MORE YEARS OF USE, BUT NOW, DUE TO THE DANGEROUS CIRCUMSTANCES, I AM IN SEARCH OF A NEW CAR. I PURCHASED MY MAZDA NEW IN MARCH OF 2009, AND OTHER THAN ROUTINE MAINTENANCE THERE HAVE BEEN NO MAJOR ISSUES. THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL BEARINGS WERE REPLACED JUST OVER A YEAR AGO, AND THE CAR STILL HAD A NOISE COMING FROM THAT AREA IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING. WE WERE TOLD AT THAT TIME THAT IT MUST BE SOMETHING LOOSE IN THE WHEEL. THE NOISES SEEMED TO WORSEN AND MULTIPLY RECENTLY. AT TIMES THE CAR WOULD SEEM TO FEEL A WOBBLE (BEST WORD I CAN THINK OF) AT HIGHER SPEEDS. LUCKILY THIS WAS NOTICED BEFORE SOMETHING TRAGIC HAPPENED. NOW I AM LEFT WITH AN INOPERABLE CAR THAT I WILL NEED TO PAY AN ESTIMATED $1,600 MINIMUM TO REPAIR WITH A WAIT TIME OF AT LEAST THREE MONTHS. THE SHOP TO WHICH I TAKE MY CAR SAID THEY HAVE SEEN THIS BEFORE IN MAZDAS AND SOME HONDAS. THEY SUSPECT IT COULD BE AN A/C DRAINING FLAW. I LIVE IN NORTHEAST OHIO, BUT THERE IS NO OTHER RUST ON THE CAR. I AM GLAD I DID A SEARCH AND DID NOT JUST ACCEPT THIS AS NORMAL. HOWEVER, I AM WONDERING HOW MANY OTHERS OUT THERE HAVE, AND HAVE NOT PLACED A COMPLAINT.
UPDATE TO NHTSA ID NUMBER: 11074904 ON 7/8/18, THE FRONT CROSSMEMBER ENGINE CRADLE FAILED, WHICH HAS RESULTED IN THE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF BEING ABLE TO STEER THE CAR. THE CAR IS NOW UNSAFE TO OPERATE AND DRIVE WHATSOEVER. I HAVE BEEN WAITING 4.5 MONTHS FOR THE MANUFACTURER TO PROVIDE THE REPLACEMENT OEM PART WHICH I HAD SCHEDULED THE REPAIR IN THE BEGINNING OF MARCH 2018. THE MANUFACTURER HAS REFUSED TO SELL THE PART TO THE MECHANIC, AND THE DEALER SAID THE PRICE OF THE OEM PART HAS NOW DOUBLED. THIS PRICE GOUGING AND INABILITY TO ALLOW ME TO FREELY CHOOSE WHO TO PERFORM MAINTENANCE ON MY CAR IS UNACCEPTABLE AND MAY RESULT IN THE PURSUIT OF LEGAL ACTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MAZDA 6. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THE VEHICLE DRIFTED TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE SUBFRAME WAS SEVERELY RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 178,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MAZDA 6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE SUBFRAME WAS RUSTED, WHICH MADE THE VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER AND AFFECTED THE ALIGNMENT. THE CONTACT SELF-DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE, BUT IT WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 151,000.
CAR SUDDENLY VEERED RIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY AND SCRAPED BOTH FENDERS AND THE MIRROR AGAINST A CEMENT BARRICADE. STEERING HAS BEEN UNPREDICTABLE. WHILE ELEVATED ON JACK STANDS WITH BOTH FRONT WHEELS HANGING, CROUCHED FACING THE RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE, THE TIRE CAN BE GRIPPED WITH THE LEFT HAND ON THE REAR FACING TREAD AND RIGHT HAND ON THE FRONT FACING TIRE TREAD, THEN MOVED IN AND OUT WITH LARGE AMOUNTS OF PLAY, WOBBLE, AND CLUNKING NOISES. THERE IS ALSO A LARGE AMOUNT OF NOISE AND CLUNKING COMING FROM THE AREA WHERE THE STREERING " LINKAGE" ( TERM?) CONNECTS TO THE HYDRAULIC RACK WHEN THE FRONT OF THE CAR IS ON JACKSTANDS AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS MOVED TO BOTH EXTREMITIES. THE HYDRAULIC STEERING RACK APPEARS TO FLEX LEFT AND RIGHT WHEN THE CAR IS ON THE GROUND IN THE NORMAL DRIVING POSITION AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS MOVED TO BOTH EXTREMITIES. THE LEFT DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL BEARING IS IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT. WHILE ASSESSING THAT IS WHEN THE EXTREME RUSTING OF THE FRONT SUBFRAME WAS NOTICED, ALONG WITH A HUGE RUST HOLE ON THE RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE AS DESCRIBED BY OTHERS. VERY CLOSE TO THE ATTACHMENT OF THE LOWER A-ARM OF THE SAME SIDE. CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW FROM DEALERSHIP WITH 1500 MILES BY AN IN HOUSEHOLD FAMILY MEMBER AND HAS HAD ALL/NEARLY ALL OF ITS SCHEDULED DEALERSHIP MAINTENANCE AT THE PLACE OR PURCHASE UP UNTILL THE BEGINNING/MIDDLE 2017. AFTERWHICH I RECIEVED THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS ALL NOTICED ON OR APROX JULY 1ST 2018 AND THE CAR HASNT BEEN DRIVEN SINCE.
I HAVE BEEN HAVING SOMETHING MAKING NOISE IN THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE SINCE FEB. I HAD PEOPLE CHECK IT DURING OIL CHANGE AND SAID EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE. ON 06/21/2018 WHILE GETTING A TIRE FIXED I HAD THIS COMPANY CHECK THE NOISE. THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE SUBFRAME HAD RUSTED AWAY AND BECOMING A SAFETY HAZARD. SO THIS IS ABOUT A $1300 FIX NOT COUNTING NEW PARTS THAT WILL CONNECT TO THE SUBFRAME. THE SUBFRAME IS ON BACKORDER FOR THE NEXT 3 TO 4 WEEKS. SO JUST HOPING CAR WILL STAY TOGETHER UNTIL THEN. ALSO MAZDA ONLY HAS TO SUBFRAMES IN STOCK WITHIN THE US AND DOESN'T SOUND LIKE WILLING TO SHIP HERE. THE FRONT SUBFRAME DOES HAVE RUST BUT NOT PUTTING IT ON A LIFT UNTIL REAR SUBFRAME IS HERE AS I THINK THE LIFT IS STRESSING THE READ SUBFRAME.
AT 70,000 AND 9 YEARS TO THE DAY SINCE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE THE FRONT SUB-FRAME IS DANGEROUSLY RUSTED AND CLOSE TO COMPLETE FAILURE. DETECTED DURING ROUTINE SERVICE.
GARAGE KEPT MAZDA 6. WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 40 A PERSON CUT INTO MY LANE AND UNDER HARD BRAKING WE HEARD A LOUD GRINDING SOUND AND THE CAR PULLED HARD RIGHT. WE PULLED OVER AND THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVEABLE. HAD IT TOWED HOME TO FIND THE SUBFRAME BROKE BEHIND THE PASSENGER SIDE TIRE. THERE WAS AN UNUSUAL AMOUNT OF CORROSION THERE COMPARED TO THE REST OF THE CAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MAZDA 6. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH AND MAKING A LEFT TURN, AN ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY LOOSE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS UNCONTROLLABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACK AND PINION MOUNTS FRACTURED DUE TO RUST, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.
THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED BY ME AND GIVEN TO MY SON TO DRIVE A YEAR AGO. THE VEHICLE HAS ABOUT 120,000 MILES AND RUN PERFECTLY EXCEPT IT WON'T PASS A STATE INSPECTION BECAUSE THE INSPECTOR SAYS THE SUBFRAME UNDER THE ENGINE IS SO BADLY RUSTED, THE ENGINE COULD EASILY DROP OUT FROM UNDER THE CAR WHILE IN OPERATION. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND WERE TOLD MAZDA IS IGNORING THE ISSUE.
CURRENTLY MY CAR IS STATIONARY, UNSAFE TO DRIVE, IN A REPAIR SHOP. THE FRONT SUBFRAME ON THE RIGHT SIDE IS COMPLETELY ROTTEN TO THE CORE. ALL PARTS ATTACHED (SUSPENSION, WHEEL, ETC.) TO THE FRAME ARE FALLING OFF. THE ROTTEN PART IS CHIPPING AWAY. MY CAR WAS MAKING A CLANKING, BANGING NOISE (I BELIEVED THE MUFFLER OR SOMETHING WAS LOOSE) SO I TOWED IT TO THE REPAIR SHOP. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE REPAIR SHOP, THE MANAGER SAID SHE HAD BAD NEWS, LORD AND BEHOLD, SHE TELLS AND SHOWS ME THE FRAME. I COULD HAVE PASSED OUT. IF I WOULD HAVE KNOWN THIS CAR HAD THIS PROBLEM, I WOULD HAVE NEVER PURCHASED IT. TO MAKE IT WORST IS THE COST TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. MY CAR IS NOT REPAIRED, MAZDA DOES NOT HAVE A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE ISSUE WHICH IS NOT SAFE, AND MAZDA DOES NOT WHAT TO HELP WITH THE EXPENSE. NHTSA, THIS IS VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH MAZDA 6 2009 MODELS; A LOT OF CUSTOMERS HAVE IDENTIFIED THIS PROBLEM AND IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS IMMEDIATELY. LOSS OF STEERING DUE TO PASSENGER SIDE RUSTED SUB FRAME
MY SON WAS DRIVING MY CAR TO GET FOOD WHEN THE CAR LOST CONTROL OF STEERING AND VEERED RIGHT TOWARDS THE CURB. HIS STEERING WAS STRAIGHT BUT CAR WAS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THANKFULLY HE WAS ONLY GOING 25 MPH. WE TOOK IT TO AUTO SHOP AND WAS TOLD ENGINE CRADLE/SUBFRAME HAD RUSTED THROUGHOUT. VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR. WE ALSO OWN A SECOND 09 MAZDA 6 THAT WE NOW WORRY ABOUT AND WILL GET LOOKED AT.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CALL NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
WHILE DRIVING CAR THE FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL MOVED SIDEWAYS; IT WAS DISCOVERED AFTER BEING TOWED THAT THE SUB FRAME (OR ENGINE CRADLE) WAS RUSTED AND BROKEN IN A FEW PLACES; MAZDA CLAIMS THAT THEY HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH RUSTED FRAMES BUT HAVE HAD THEM FOR THIS MODEL ON BACK ORDER FOR 6 MONTHS; IT COST $1100.00 TO REPLACE THE FRAME AND 6 WEEKS TO GET A USED ONE.
I USUALLY GET MY GIRLFRIENDS OIL CHANGED ON HER 09 MAZDA 6 4 CYL AT A LOCAL SHOP BUT DECIDED TO DO THE OIL CHANGE MYSELF. UPON INSPECTION WHILE WAITING FOR THE OIL TO DRAIN I NOTICED A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF RUST CORROSION ON THE RIGHT REAR WHERE THE SUBFRAME ATTACHES. IT'S SAD BECAUSE WE HAVE ONLY HAD THE CAR A YEAR AND A HALF AND BEFORE WE BOUGHT IT IT WAS ACTUALLY REALLY CLEAN UNDERNEATH. I HONESTLY DON'T SEE THIS 2009 MAZDA PASSING INSPECTION AGAIN AND WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF MAZDA WILL HELP OUT. DO WE KEEP DRIVING THIS CAR AND RISKING OUR AND EVERYONE ELSE'S LIFE'S ? RUSTED SUBFRAME MECHANIC'S INSPECTION AT 100,000 MILES REVEALED SEVERE RUSTING OF SUBFRAME. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE IF IT BREAKS IT WOULD ALLOW THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION TO FALL OUT OF PLACE. I HAVE ORDERED A REPLACEMENT PART BUT IT IS UNAVAILABLE UNTIL JULY. IN THE MEANTIME, IT FEELS AS THOUGH I AM DRIVING A TIME BOMB. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE IT SEEMS ABNORMAL FOR A STRUCTURAL COMPONENT TO ROT OUT SO QUICKLY AND BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS MAKE AND MODEL.
2009 MAZDA MAZDA6. 121000 MILES. 9.5 YEARS OLD. DRIVER SIDE OF FRONT SUBFRAME RUSTED THROUGH AND CRACKED. FIRST NOTICED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED 1/4 LEFT OF WHERE IT SHOULD BE WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS MOVING STRAIGHT. HAD MECHANIC ASSESS. PAID $90 FOR ALIGNMENT. DROVE VEHICLE AGAIN. BACKED OUT OF DRIVEWAY AND HEARD POP. STEERING FELT MUCH LOOSER. DIFFICULT TO CONTROL VEHICLE. WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE QUICKLY IN TRAFFIC, THE VEHICLE PULLED STRONGLY TO ONE SIDE. WHEEL WOULD NOT CENTER. VEHICLE WOULD NO LONGER MAINTAIN CONSISTENT STEERING. HAD DRIVEN AND CHECKED AT MECHANIC. DIAGNOSED RUSTED AND CRACKED SUBFRAME. MECHANIC FOUND USED SUBFRAME FROM MARYLAND. QUOTED $2000 MINIMUM FOR REPAIR. COULD BE MORE IF BOLTS WERE RUSTED HOLDING FRAME IN OR REPAIR REQUIRED WORK FROM TOP SIDE. ALL OTHER SYSTEMS ON VEHICLE IN EXCELLENT SHAPE (NO ISSUES) WITH ELECTRICAL, ENGINE, ETC. HAD HOPED TO GET 3 MORE YEARS OUT OF VEHICLE. NEW YORK STATE CONDITIONS ARE CONDUCIVE TO RUST, BUT THIS FAILURE IS SERIOUS, COULD HAVE LED TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT, AND SEEMS PREMATURE.
I HAVE RECEIVED MULTIPLE ESTIMATES (PLEASE SEE ATTACHED FILES) THAT INDICATE THE BEGINNING OF A PROBLEM OTHER MAZDA6 2009 OWNERS HAVE HAD--THE SUBFRAME HAS RUSTED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. FIRST TIME THE PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED TO ME WAS AT 65,000; PREVIOUS OWNER MAY HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED BUT PROBLEM HAS GROWN MORE SEVERE. NO INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED AS OF YET BUT ESTIMATES RANGE FROM $2,000 TO $4,000 TO REPLACE; MAZDA DEALERSHIP CLAIMS PART WOULD TAKE 1-3 MONTHS TO ORDER. I DATED THE INCIDENT AS OF THE FIRST ESTIMATE I RECEIVED. I HAVE BEEN WARNED THAT THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION COULD DROP OUT OF PLACE!!! AT ONLY ~60K MILES, THIS CAR HAS A LOT LEFT IN IT!
THE SUBFRAME OF MY 2009 MAZDA6 COMPLETELY ROTTED OUT FROM THE INSIDE AND THE VEHICLE BROKE DOWN DURING NORMAL USE. ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 2ND, A MAZDA DEALERSHIP REPLACED MY ROTORS, PADS, AND NOTICED THE CAR WAS PULLING TO ONE SIDE SO THEY CORRECTED THE ALIGNMENT. DURING THIS TIME THEY IDENTIFIED A NORMAL LEVEL OF RUST ON THE SUBFRAME BUT WAS NOT CONCERNED BY ANY OTHER SIGNS OF FAILURE. LESS THAN 10 MILES AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP THE SUBFRAME CRACKED, MY FRONT PASSENGER WHEEL CV AXIL DISCONNECTED AND THE CAR WAS INOPERABLE. THANKFULLY I WAS GOING ONLY 35 MPH, DOWN A STRAIGHT, PAVED CITY ROAD, AND NOT ON THE HIGHWAY. I FEAR THAT AT HIGHER SPEEDS THE CAR WOULD HAVE GONE OFF ROAD OR WORSE FOR WHEN THE SUBFRAME BROKE THE CAR JERKED HEAVILY TO THE RIGHT THEN COMPLETELY STOPPED. I BELIEVE THE DEALERSHIP PROVIDED QUALITY SERVICE AND DUE TO THE TYPE OF PHYSICAL FAILURE OF ROTTING FROM THE INSIDE THE DANGER IT POSED TO MYSELF AND MY FAMILY IN THE CAR WAS HIDDEN. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMS ME THAT THERE IS A BACKORDER (400ISH) FOR THE PART AND THAT PARTS MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. SEARCHING ONLINE THERE SEEMS TO BE MANY SIMILAR CASES REPORTED WITH MODELS AROUND THIS TIMEFRAME. DUE TO THE TYPE OF FAILURE, NUMBER OF SIMILAR CASES, AGE OF THE CAR, TYPE OF USE, I AM SHOCKED THAT THERE IS NOT A RECALL.
I WAS DRIVING TO A MEDICAL APPT ON LOCAL ROADS WHEN I NOTICED A THUMPING SOUND FROM THE FRONT LEFT, AS IF THE TIRE WERE GOING FLAT. I STOPPED AND INSPECTED THE TIRE AND FOUND NO PROBLEMS, SO I CONTINUED ON TO THE APPT LESS THAN A MILE AWAY. LEAVING THE APPT I FELT THE CAR SUDDENLY PULLING SHARPLY TO THE RIGHT, AND THE DSC-OFF LIGHT CAME ON. TURNING RIGHT CAUSED A LOUD SQUEAKING NOISE. I DROVE IMMEDIATELY TO A MAZDA DEALERSHIP THAT WAS FORTUNATELY ONLY A MILE OR SO AWAY. THEY EXAMINED THE CAR AND FOUND THAT IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO SEVERE RUSTING OF THE FRONT SUBFRAME (RIGHT SIDE). THEY SAID THAT IF I HAD HIT A POTHOLE THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE MAY HAVE BROKEN OFF, ENDANGERING MY LIFE AND THE LIVES OF OTHERS. THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A USED SUBFRAME, AND NEW SUBFRAMES ARE ON BACKORDER UNTIL JUNE - LEAVING ME TO FIND ALTERNATE MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION FOR AT LEAST A MONTH. LIVING IN A NORTHERN CLIMATE I EXPECT CARS TO RUST, BUT A 9 YEAR OLD CAR WITH ONLY 70,000 MILES SHOULD NOT HAVE DETERIORATED TO SUCH A LEVEL THIS QUICKLY.
WE WERE DRIVING MY 2009 MAZDA 6 ON 4/25/2018 - WHICH I PURCHASED NEW IN SEPT., 2009 FROM BERKSHIRE MAZDA IN PITTSFIELD, MA, 01201. THE CAR SUDDENLY VEERED DANGEROUSLY TO THE RIGHT AT ABOUT 50 MPH ON NY RT 22 (THE ROAD HAD ROUGH PAVEMENT) IN CANAAN, NY, WENT OFF THE ROAD, BARELY MISSING TWO TREES. IT HAD TO BE TOWED FROM THE SCENE. IF THIS SUB-FRAME HAD BROKEN APART 5 MINUTES LATER I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON I-90 NEXT TO SEMI TRUCKS. TWO PEOPLE IN THE CAR COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN KILLED, ENDANGERING OTHER MOTORISTS AS WELL. THERE IS NO RUST-THROUGH ON THE BODY OF THE CAR. IT HAS BEEN REGULARLY SERVICED. IT HAS ABOUT 85,000 MILES. I CALLED MAZDA THEY SAID THERE'S NO RECALL FOR SUB-FRAME RUST/DETERIORATION. THIS IS THE FOURTH MAZDA OUR FAMILY HAS PURCHASED. I HAVE SEEN NUMEROUS OTHER ONLINE COMPLAINTS AND DESCRIPTIONS OF THE 2009 MAZDA 6 LOSING DIRECTIONAL STABILITY BECAUSE THE FRONT SUB-FRAME HAD COLLAPSED DUE TO PREMATURE RUST DISINTEGRATION. I ALSO SEE THAT THIS PARTICULAR MODEL: 2009 MAZDA 6 WAS RECALLED IN AUSTRALIA FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. NHTSA NEEDS TO HAVE THIS RECALL ENACTED TO PROTECT AMERICAN LIVES AS WELL.

FRONT SUB FRAME IS COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT TO THE POINT OF BRAKING AND IMMEDIATELY NOT SAFE TO DRIVE, REST OF THE UNDERCARRIAGE IS COMPLETELY CLEAN OF RUST. MAZDA CORP. HAS DENIED CLAIM TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE UNDER WARRANTY. PLEASE ADVISE.
