I WAS DRIVING A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE FOR ABOUT 45 MINUTES ON THE EXPRESSWAY IN 10 DEG. F TEMPERATURES WITH THE SPEED CONTROL ON AND SET TO 70 MPH. WHEN I APPROACHED THE EXIT RAMP I PRESSED THE SPEED CONTROL OFF BUTTON BUT NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN. I THEN TAPPED THE BRAKES WHILE GOING UP THE EXIT RAMP. STILL THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AT THE STOP LIGHT AND PLACED THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL. THE ENGINE REVVED UP TO 4500RPM. I TURNED THE KEY COMPLETELY OFF THEN RESTARTED THE ENGINE. AGAIN IT REVVED UP TO 4500RPM. I TURNED IT OFF AND RESTARTED AGAIN. STILL THE ENGINE RAN UP TO 4500RPM IN NEUTRAL. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN SO I CAREFULLY PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE AND DROVE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO A NEARBY PARKING LOT. I STOPPED AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE FOR SEVERAL MINUTES. I COULD TELL BY THE SMELL THAT THE BRAKES WERE HOT. THIS TIME WHEN I RESTARTED THE ENGINE IT REVVED UP TO ABOUT 3000 THEN SLOWLY CAME DOWN TO NORMAL IDLE SPEED. I DROVE IT THE REST OF MY TRIP WITHOUT ANY TROUBLE BUT DID NOT USE THE SPEED CONTROL. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID COME ON AS A RESULT OF THIS EPISODE. *TR

SHE SUSTAINED SEVERE BRUISING TO HER BODY, A BROKEN LEG AND A FOOT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 100,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECREASED SPEED AND FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS LOSING POWER. THE SPEED WOULD NOT INCREASE ABOVE 5 MPH AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE PROPERLY. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS DUE TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND IT WOULD TAKE 1-3 MONTHS TO RECEIVE THE PART. AFTER 4 WEEKS, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, WHEN THE SHIFTING GEARS FROM PARK, REVERSE, AND DRIVE SHE HEARD A GRINDING NOISE. THERE WAS ALSO LITTLE OR NO RESISTANCE IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE MAKING RIGHT AND LEFT TURNS. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07E023000 IS RELATED TO THE SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:MASTER CYLINDER AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 04V583000 IS RELATED TO THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CABLES. THE CONTACT IS AWARE OF THE SAFETY RISK IN THE TRANSMISSION. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 53,000.
FRONT AIR BAG SENSOR KEEPS GOING OFF FACTORY WONT CLAIM DEFECT PARTS PAYING COSTLY OUT OF POCKET REPAIRS STILL UNDER WARRANTY "JUST NOT THOSE PARTS". *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS; PROCEEDING TO A TRAFFIC SIGN THE ENGINE BEGAN TO HESITATE AND MISFIRE. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPLACED THE COIL PACK, SPARK PLUGS AND BY PASSED THE WIRING HARNESS. IN ADDITION, THE FUEL INJECTION WAS CLEANED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED FORD DEALER ON A SEPARATE OCCASION THE FOR THE IDENTICAL FAILURES. THE TECHNICIAN RECOMMENDED REPLACEMENT OF THE WIRING HARNESS AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF $1,300. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER TO HAVE THE WIRING HARNESS TERMINAL REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT WAS MILEAGE 107,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHENEVER THE VEHICLE COMES TO A STOP AND THE CONTACT DEPRESSES THE CLUTCH, THE ENGINE REVS. IT FEELS AS IF THE VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE INSTEAD OF COMING TO A STOP. THE FAILURE OCCURS DAILY AND WAS RECENTLY NOTICED WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR CABLE WAS STUCK AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THROUGH RESEARCH, THE CONTACT FOUND NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V583000. THE DEALER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT BELIEVES THAT IF THE FAILURES ARE IDENTICAL, THEN HIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE COVERED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 04V583000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:CABLES);THEREFORE, THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. SECOND TIME REPLACING ROTORS ON 2004 FWD MAZDA TRIBUTE. ONLY 61K ON VEHICLE. FIRST ROTORS REPLACED AT 25K. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED OVER THE 55 MPH SPEED LIMIT AND WOULD NOT STOP. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, AND DOWNSHIFTED THE GEAR, BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. SHE EXITED OFF THE NEAREST RAMP, TURNED THE VEHICLE TOWARDS AN EMBANKMENT, AND THEN JUMPED OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED HEAD, NECK, AND BACK INJURIES. THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER, STRUCK A TREE, AND THEN FINALLY CAME TO A STOP. THE CONTACT WAS THE ONLY OCCUPANT IN THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME. THE POLICE FILED A REPORT AND THE INSURANCE COMPANY STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. UPDATED 03/29/10 *BF
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. SINCE MARCH OF 2009, THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO HESITATE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AT THE COST OF $3,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH THE VEHICLE EXHIBITING AN ABNORMAL INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS. THE VEHICLE BECAME UNRESPONSIVE TO ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS AND WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. APPROXIMATELY TWO YEARS LATER, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE OVERDRIVE WARNING LIGHT WAS FLASHING ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN TO SHIFT ERRATICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED A SECOND TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO STARTED TO HEAR A TICKING NOISE WHEN STARTING, GETTING WORSE CHECKED OIL AND WAS DOWN ABOUT 1/2 LITER TOPPED UP OIL. WENT TO A GARAGE TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS A CONNECTOR ROD PROBLEM THIS PROGRESSED RAPIDLY WITHIN TWO DAYS IT WONT START. I HAVE 109000 K/M , THERE WAS NO WARNING NO OVER HEATING, NO WARNING LIGHTS . NOW I NEED A NEW ENGINE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. WHILE TURNING AT 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER CAN REV THE ENGINE TO KEEP IT RUNNING. HOWEVER, THE ENGINE IS REVVING UP TO 3,000 RPMS. THE FAILURE OCCURS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. A CRASH COULD OCCUR IF THE CONTACT'S FOOT IS NOT DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL AT THE TIME. THE FAILURE IS INTERMITTENT AND SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE REVS UP TO 1,000 RPMS AND OTHER TIMES UP TO 3,000 RPMS. THE DEALER FROM WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS FINE AND DESIGNED TO PERFORM IN THAT MANNER. THE FAILURE HAS SINCE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT IS CURRENTLY LOCATED. THE CONTACT IS ATTEMPTING TO TRADE IN THE VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 66,000.
2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE WAS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY IN PARK WHEN SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON. THERE WAS NO IMPACT. DEALER AND MAZDA TOLD ME IT IS MY INSURANCE COMPANIES RESPONSIBILITY TO INVESTIGATE. AFTER SEEING THE OTHER ISSUES THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE DIES. *TR
TRANSMISSION FAILED AT 70,700 INDICATED BY A FLASHING O/D LIGHT. HAD TO BE REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE. REPLACEMENT IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY. *TR

MY WIFE PURCHASED A USED 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE ACCELERATOR CABLE FAILED AND WHEN IT FAILED THE CAR ENGINE WAS AT FULL THROTTLE WITHOUT THE ABILITY TO STOP IT. A FAILURE THAT DEFAULTS TO FULL ACCELERATION IS AN OBVIOUS DEFECT. I CHECKED THE INTERNET AND LEARNED THAT THE CAR HAD BEEN RECALLED TO CORRECT THAT DEFECT. I CALLED MAZDA AND WAS TOLD THAT THE RECALL WORK HAD BEEN DONE ON THE CAR. I TOLD MAZDA THAT THE RECALL WORK HAD NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM AND THAT A FAILURE THAT DEFAULTS TO A THROTTLE AT FULL ACCELERATION IS A MASSIVELY DANGEROUS DEFECT. THEY BASICALLY SAID WE DID ALL WE HAD TO DO. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION AND WILL CAUSE INJURY OR DEATH. *TR
MY CAR IS NOT EVEN 4 YEARS OLD YET AND THE AIRBAGS DO NOT WORK. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. THE DEALERSHIP SAID I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THAT, HOWEVER, THEY WILL NOT FIX IT UNLESS THERE IS A SAFETY RECALL. THIS IS VERY SERIOUS MATTER. AIRBAGS ARE SUPPOSE TO BE SAFE AND THEY ARE REQUIRED. *TR
AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT. DEALER DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT CODE B1877 AND B1994 NEED 2 HARNESSES FOR SIDE AIR BAGS AND 2 HARNESSES FOR PRETENSIONER. VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN ACCIDENT. WELL MAINTAINED IAW MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDATIONS. IF THIS IS A FREQUENT PROBLEM PERHAPS THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD ISSUE A RECALL. ESTIMATED COST TO REPAIR $900. *TR
AT 47,968 MILES AND WHEN MY MAZDA TRIBUTE WAS FOUR MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY, I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED NEW FRONT BRAKE PADS AND TO HAVE THE ROTORS RESURFACED COSTING $340. AFTER THEY HAD THE CAR UP, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOT ENOUGH MATERIAL ON THE ROTOR TO RESURFACE AND THAT I WOULD NEED TO HAVE THE ROTORS REPLACED, COSTING $485 BEFORE A COUPON. I REQUESTED AND STILL HAVE THE PARTS THEY REPLACED AND FEEL THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG AFTER READING OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS PROBLEM ON A CAR WITH SO LITTLE MILEAGE (AND MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILES). ALSO, THE CD PLAYER BROKE ONCE UNDER WARRANTY (IT FAILED TO EJECT OR PLAY CDS) AND WAS REPLACED, BUT HAS BROKEN AGAIN AFTER 18 MONTHS - SAME PROBLEM. THE CD REPAIR IS VERY EXPENSIVE - ABOUT $500 TO EXCHANGE FOR A REBUILT UNIT AND OVER $300 TO REPAIR MINIMUM AND THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DESIGN OF THE UNIT. THE DEALER AND MAZDA COULD NOT TELL ME THE PART NUMBER OR MAKER OF THE UNIT AND A COUPLE OF DEALERS DID NOT EVEN OFFER A REPAIR OPTION, SAYING THE UNIT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. DURING THE 2007 WINTER SEASON, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY REVVED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND WAITED A FEW SECONDS; HOWEVER, THE ISSUE RECURRED FOR APPROXIMATELY TEN MINUTES. AFTERWARDS, THE FAILURE CEASED. IN JANUARY OF 2008, THE FAILURE RECURRED AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. THE VEHICLE ONCE AGAIN BEGAN TO REV. THE FAILURE OCCURRED A TOTAL OF TWO TIMES; HOWEVER, SHE NEVER NOTICED THE VEHICLE ACCELERATING BACKWARDS OR FORWARD. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER OR SPOKEN WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,350 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,000. UPDATED 3/11/09 *CN UPDATED 03/16/09. *JB
I HAVE HAD AIR BAG HARNESS REPLACED THREE TIMES NOW AND ACCORDING TO MAZDA IT HAS NOW CAUSED MY AIR BAG MODULE TO SHORT OUT. THIS WOULD SEEM TO BE A SAFETY RECALL WHICH MAZDA DOES NOT WANT TO OWN UP TO. I AM CONCERNED FOR SAFETY OF PASSENGER IN CAR AND COST FOR REPLACEMENT IS BECOMING ABSORBENT AND ANY INVESTIGATION INTO THIS SAFETY CONCERN WOULD BE APPRECIATED. *TR
COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE ON MY 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE WITH UNDER 52,000 MILES. *JB
VEHICLE EXHIBITED EXTENDED CRANK PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT. AS IT WAS NEARING 30K MILE SERVICE, WE DECIDED TO WAIT AND HAVE DEALER INSPECT AT THAT TIME. BEFORE THE CAR WENT IN FOR MAINTENANCE, IT SHUT DOWN GOING UPHILL. ALTHOUGH IT WOULD RESTART, IT RAN ROUGH AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. #3 IGNITION COIL WAS REPLACED THAT THAT VISIT. THE CAR BEGAN STARTING HARD AGAIN IN LATE 2007 AND WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN - THIS VISIT, THEY REPLACED THE IDLE AIR VALVE, HOPING TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IT CONTINUED TO START HARD AND 2 WEEKS LATER IT RAN VERY ROUGH AGAIN ON STARTUP. THIS VISIT HAD THE DEALERSHIP REPLACE THE #2 IGNITION COIL. THE CAR CONTINUED TO START HARD, WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THE #4 IGNITION COIL WAS REPLACED. HARD START CONTINUED, CAR BACK TO DEALER AGAIN, FUEL PUMP REPLACED. THIS BRINGS US TO TODAY - THE CAR HAS BEEN OUT OF THE SHOP FOR 6 DAYS AND IS STARTING WORSE THAN IT HAD BEEN PRIOR TO THE LAST VISIT. NOTE: WARRANTY RAN OUT ON THE VEHICLE ON 4/2 AND THE DEALER AND MAZDA WOULD LIKE ME TO START PAYING FOR REPAIR. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, AS THE CAR SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING. ON TOP OF THAT, THE FRUSTRATION OF HAVING TO GO BACK AND FORTH FROM THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN AWFUL. ALSO, NOTE: THE HARD START WAS EASIEST TO DUPLICATE AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN DRIVEN AND WARMED UP, RESTED OFF FOR ~ 1 HOUR, THEN RESTARTED (LIKE WHEN YOU GOT OT THE GROCERY STORE). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED WHEN DRIVING AT 40 MPH. THE VEHICLE FAILED ON TWO OCCASIONS ,AND APPEARED AS IF IT WOULD FAIL MORE FREQUENTLY. THE MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE WAS ON APRIL 27, 2007. THERE WAS A SAFETY RECALL BUT IT DID NOT APPLY TO THIS VEHICLE DUE TO THE VIN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 95,000, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED, WHICH INDICATED A FAILURE WITH THE SYSTEM. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER ON SIX OCCASIONS FOR THE SAME FAILURE. THE FIRST TIME THE DEALER REPLACED A WIRING HARNESS, THE SECOND TIME THEY REPLACED A SEAT MODULE, THE THIRD TIME THEY HAD TO REINSTALL THE HARNESS BECAUSE THEY CONNECTED IT IMPROPERLY, THE FOURTH TIME, THEY REPLACED THE DRIVER'S SIDE SENSOR, THE FIFTH TIME THEY REPLACED THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT SENSOR, AND MOST RECENTLY, THEY REPLACED THE ENTIRE SYSTEM. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUES. THE DEALER STATED THAT NOTHING ELSE COULD BE DONE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 107,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON A FREEWAY (4 LANE - 65 MPH SPEED LIMIT) ON THE AFTERNOON OF 2/3/2007 WITH MY CRUISE CONTROL SET TO 65 MPH. I NOTICED THAT I WAS SPEEDING UP, AND WITHIN A SHORT TIME, MY SPEED HAD CLIMBED TO ABOUT 90 MPH. AT FIRST, I THOUGHT THIS WAS A MALFUNCTION OF MY SPEED CONTROL, BUT AFTER TOUCHING THE BRAKE AND TURNING THE SPEED CONTROL OFF, IT CONTINUED TO GO ABOUT 90 MPH. AT THIS TIME, I NOTICED AN EXIT COMING UP IN ABOUT 1 MILE - SO I KEPT TOUCHING THE BREAK TO KEEP THE SPEED ABOUT 75-80 AND WHEN I APPROACHED THE EXIT, SHUT OFF THE CAR AND COASTED TO THE TOP OF THE RAMP. WITH THE CAR SAFELY STOPPED, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR TOWED TO A SERVICE STATION, WHERE THE MECHANIC PULLED OFF THE AIR FILTER ASSEMBLY GOING INTO WHAT I THINK IS A THROTTLE CHAMBER AND FOUND A LARGE PIECE OF ICE HOLDING EITHER THE CHOKE OR THROTTLE CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I AM CONCERNED THAT ICE CAN BUILD UP IN THIS AREA AND THE SAME THING WILL HAPPEN AGAIN, WHENEVER IT IS COLD OUT. AT 39720 MILES I BROUGHT MY 2004 MAZDA TRIBUTE IN FOR A PROBLEM THAT TURNED OUT TO BE LEAKS IN THE TRANSFER CASE AND TIMING CHAIN COVER WHICH WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. AT THAT TIME, THE MAZDA SERVICE CENTER (#1) TOLD ME THAT THE FRONT DISC BRAKE ROTORS HAD WORN BELOW MINIMUMS, COULD NOT BE RESURFACED AND SHOULD BE REPLACED. THEY ALSO SAID THAT THE PADS WERE AT THEIR MINIMUM THICKNESS AND SHOULD ALSO BE REPLACED. THIS WAS AFTER HAVING TAKEN THE SAME CAR TO A DIFFERENT MAZDA DEALER'S SERVICE CENTER (#2) ONE WEEK EARLIER AND BEING TOLD THAT THE FRONT BRAKES WERE OK (5/32 ON PADS; 2/32 BEING THE LEGAL LIMIT) AND COULD PROBABLY GO FOR ANOTHER YEAR BEFORE NEEDING TO BE CHANGED. THAT TECHNICIAN (#2 DEALER) DIDN'T SEEM TO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE ROTORS. I WAS TOLD BY THE #1 DEALER THAT THE ROTORS WERE NOT COVERED UNDER THE MAZDA WARRANTY - THIS WAS CONSIDERED A NORMAL WEAR ITEM. HOWEVER, MAZDA'S OWN NATIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE AGREED WITH ME THAT ROTORS ARE TECHNICALLY NOT A "WEAR" ITEM. THIS IS ONLY THE SECOND TIME IN 30 YEARS OF DRIVING CARS WITH DISC BRAKES THAT I HAVE EVER HAD TO REPLACE A ROTOR; THE LAST TIME THE CAR HAD 90,000 MILES ON IT. ROTORS GENERALLY DON'T WEAR AT ANYWHERE NEAR THE SAME RATE AS PADS. ALSO, THERE WAS NO WARNING TO ME WHILE DRIVING THAT I WAS GETTING TO A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS CONDITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN ONCE AGAIN TO THE MAZDA DEALER AND I WAS INFORMED THAT THE SUV IS NO LONGER UNDER GUARANTEE BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS OVER 4 YEARS OLD AND THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. THEY INFORMED ME THAT ROTORS WERE A "WEAR" ITEM, EVEN THOUGH ROTORS ARE NOT LISTED IN THE WARRANTY EXCLUSIONS. I WAS TOLD THAT BECAUSE OF THE SOFT MATERIAL THESE ROTORS ARE MADE FROM, THEY WEAR MORE EASILY. IN MY OPINION THIS IS "DEFECTIVE MATERIAL" NOT A "ROUTINE WEAR ITEM". THE WARRANTY STATES "WORN BRAKE AND CLUTCH LININGS" ARE EXCLUDED. A ROTOR IS NOT A BRAKE LINING. SINCE THE CORRECT CONVERSION FROM 240 KPA TO PSI IS 35 PSI, IT APPEARS THE VEHICLE PLACARD IS INCORRECT. MOST USERS IN THE USA WILL USE THE PSI AMOUNT TO DETERMINE PROPER INFLATION PRESSURE.
