WHILE HIGHWAY DRIVING THE RIGHT TAIL LAMP, BRAKE LAMP, FOG LAMP DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. UPON INSPECTION, THE GROUND WIRE INSULATION AND CONNECTOR ON THE TAILLIGHT ASSEMBLY HAD MELTED FROM OVERHEATING. WE EXPERIENCED A TOTAL LOSS OF ALL LIGHTING ON THE RIGHT REAR TAILLIGHT ASSEMBLY. *TR

NOISE COMING FROM FRONT OF ENGINE. BROUGHT TO A LOCAL MERCEDES BENZ INDEPENDENT SHOP. THEY REPLACED THE BELT TENSIONER, IDLER PULLEYS, AND THE MULTI RIB BELT. WHY WOULD THE BELT TENSIONER CAUSE THE RIB BELT TO RIP WITH ONLY 62K MILES ON THE CAR? *TR
I PARKED VEHICLE IN A PUBLIC PARKING LATE AT NIGHT. I WAS WITH MY SON, I TRIED TO TURN ON VEHICLE AND IT DID NOT START. I WAS STRANDED LATE AT NIGHT WITH MY SON WITH NO RIDE. I HAD TWO MECHANICS LOOK AT IT, ONE OF WHICH WAS A MECHANIC FOR THE MERCEDES DEALER. BOTH STATING IT WAS THE STEERING LOCK MODULE, THEY BOTH TOLD ME THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE MERCEDES C300. THIS PROBLEM COSTS $1300 TO FIX WITH THE DEALER, THE PART ALONE IS OVER $550. READING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ONLINE, IT IS VERY COMMON IN THE 2008-2009 MODELS, NORMALLY OCCURRING AROUND 3-4 YEARS OF OWNING THE VEHICLE, AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. MERCEDES SHOULD HAVE A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM! THESES ARE FAIRLY NEW VEHICLES AND IT IS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT! *TR
THE LEFT REAR TAIL LIGHT HAD A BULB THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST UNDER $10. IT NEEDED MORE THAN A BULB AS THE WIRING HAD MELTED AND IT REQUIRED A NEW LEFT REAR LIGHT ASSEMBLY KIT WITH A NEW HARNESS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AT A COST OF $300. THE AUTO SHOP TECHNICIAN SHOWED HOW THE WIRING HAD COMPLETELY MELTED AND NEEDED TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE REAR LIGHT MODULE. THIS HAD TO BE A DEFECTIVE PART AND MERCEDES HAD NOT ISSUED A RECALL TO COVER THE COST. THE MELTED WIRES POSE A FIRE HAZARD. *TR
AFTER THE CAR WAS WARMED UP, THE MESSAGE DISPLAY REPORTED TAIL LIGHT OUTAGES IN THE RIGHT REAR TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED SO I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC. THE PIG TAIL AND CIRCUIT BOARD THAT HOLDS THE BULBS SHOWED BURN MARKS WHICH CAUSED THE CIRCUITS TO SHORT OUT. THE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD AND PIG TAIL ASSEMBLY WERE REPLACED. *TR
CAR DASH DISPLAY INDICATED TO CHECK RIGHT REAR TURN LAMP. WHILE CHECKING THE LAMP, THE LAMP HOLDER ASSEMBLY WAS HOT. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO UNPLUG THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR TO THE LAMP HOLDER ASSEMBLY, DISCOVERED THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR WAS MELTING (SPECIFICALLY AROUND THE GROUND WIRE). THERE SEEM TO BE OTHER REPORTS OF THIS ISSUE ON WEB FORUMS (E.G. MB WORLD). *TR
BROUGHT MY CAR IN FOR A REPAIR OF THE STEERING COLUMN ON 3/9/2013 TO THE MERCEDES DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR, WHICH THEY TOOK CARE OF. BUT, THEN ABOUT A MONTH LATER STARTED TO GET WARNINGS FROM THE DASHBOARD TO CHECK MY RIGHT REAR TAILLIGHT AND DIRECTIONAL. THEN IT WAS THE RIGHT REAR SIDE LAMPS, TAILLIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS, REVERSE LIGHTS AND DIRECTIONAL, EVERY TIME I START THE CAR AND/ OR WHENEVER ONE OF THOSE LIGHTS IS ENGAGED WHILE DRIVING. WAITING FOR A RECALL AND SAW THAT MBUSA REQUIRES EXACT INFORMATION FOR THE COMPLAINTS. *JB
EXTREME ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTIONS. LIGHT BULBS CONSISTENTLY BURNED OUT (LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT, PARKING LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHTS). FINALLY, SMOKE CAME FROM TRUCK/BRAKE LIGHTS AREA AND WIRE HARNESS MELTED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MERCEDES-BENZ C300. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING VARIOUS SPEEDS, HE HEARD A POPPING NOISE. UPON INVESTIGATION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE PASSENGER TAILLIGHT BULB FAILED. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT THE DRIVER'S FRONT INTERIOR DOOR HANDLE DETACHED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS CONFIRMED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 47,000.
RECEIVED IN-DASH NOTIFICATIONS THAT ALL LIGHTS ON LEFT SIDE OF CAR WERE OUT. TOOK TO LOCAL REPAIR SHOP, WHICH FOUND THAT LEFT REAR TAILLIGHT HOUSING HAD MELTED. HAD NEW LIGHTING CARRIER INSTALLED AND WIRES REPAIRED. *TR
PASSENGER SIDE REAR BRAKE LIGHT, DIRECTIONAL SIGNAL, SIDE MARKER, AND REAR LIGHT NOT OPERATIONAL. IT STARTED WITH THE DIRECTIONAL SIGNAL WORKING ON AND OFF, IT WOULD WORK FOR A WEEK OR TWO AND THEN ONCE IN A WHILE IT WOULD MALFUNCTION. NOW NONE OF THE LIGHTS ARE OPERATIONAL. UPON INSPECTING THE INSIDE OF THE SOCKET ASSEMBLY ONE OF THE WIRES LOOKED COMPLETELY CORRODED AND UPON TOUCHING IT WAS VERY HOT WHEN THE LIGHTS WERE ON. *TR
DRIVING AT NIGHT. INSTRUMENT WARNING OF NUMEROUS FAILED TAIL LIGHTS ON BOTH SIDES AT THE SAME TIME. PULLED OVER AND OPENED TRUNK. TRUNK WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE AND BURNING PLASTIC SMELL. OBSERVED ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ON BOTH TAIL LIGHT BULB HOLDERS MELTING AND SMOLDERING. VISUAL FLAME (SMALL) ON GROUND WIRE ON RIGHT TAIL LIGHT CONNECTOR. OBSERVED BOTH BULB HOLDER ASSEMBLIES AND THEIR ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS HEAVILY DAMAGED BY FIRE/HEAT ONLY AROUND THE BROWN (GROUND) WIRES. REMOVED ASSEMBLIES AND WAS ABLE TO RESTORE SOME TAIL LIGHT FUNCTIONS BY CLEANING ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS OF MELTED PLASTIC. NOTED CORROSION AROUND GROUND TERMINAL PIN OF CONNECTORS. NO INDICATION OF MOISTURE OR WATER LEAKS IN AREA. NO FUSES BLEW. ALL BULBS GOOD. TAIL LIGHT OPERATION NOW INTERMITTENT. WILL CONTACT DEALER TO REPLACE PARTS - FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL ITEM DUE TO FIRE AND THE CIRCUIT NOT BEING PROTECTED BY FUSE. *TR UPDATED 3/28/13 *CN..UPDATED 09-09-14 *BF
WARNING INDICATORS FLASHED FOR ALL THE RIGHT SIDE REAR LIGHTS. WHEN I WENT TO CHANGE BULBS DISCOVERED THE COVERING ON WIRES HAD MELTED ALONG WITH THE PLASTIC HARNESS. TOOK IT TO DEALER NEXT DAY AND THE HARNESS HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR A LITTLE OVER $150. IT IS HAPPENING ON THE OTHER SIDE ALSO. SERVICE REP HAS SEEN ON OTHER C300S. MB DENIES THIS IS A DEFECT. *TR
A MESSAGE ON THE DASH CONSISTENTLY APPEARED, ADVISING TO CHECK RIGHT REAR LIGHTS: BRAKE, FOG, TAIL ETC. WE CHECKED THE REAR LIGHTS AND FOUND THE PLASTIC BOARD THAT HOLDS THE LIGHT BULBS AND WIRING HAD MELTED. WE PURCHASED A NEW BOARD FROM A MERCEDES DEALER. AFTER I INSTALLED IT, IT MADE GOOD CONNECTIONS. THE MESSAGE CONCERNING THE RIGHT LIGHT HAS NOT COME BACK ON. HOWEVER, THE LEFT BRAKE, FOG AND TAIL MESSAGE CAME ON. WHEN CHECKED, THE LEFT BOARD AND WIRING WAS ALSO MELTED. WE PURCHASED ANOTHER NEW BOARD FROM MERCEDES. HOWEVER, I WAS ABLE TO REESTABLISH A CONNECTION USING THE OLD BOARD, AND DID NOT USE THE NEW BOARD. NOW THE RIGHT FRONT FOG LIGHT HAS A SIMILAR ISSUE THAT HAS NOT BEEN INVESTIGATED OR REPAIRED. *TR
CALIPER ON THE BRAKES WERE STICKING CAUSE THE ROTORS TO WARP- REPLACED ALL PARTS AFTER 3,000 MILES SAME THING HAPPENED-- TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEAL SHIP - REPLACED NEW CALIPERS ROTORS-3500 MILES LATER SAME THING HAPPENED TOOK THE CAR BACK AGAIN - REPLACED ALL THE PARTS 5000 MILES LATER SAME THING IT IS NOW JUNE AND THE CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR A WEEK AGAIN. *TR
THERE SEEMS TO BE A LIGHT SHORTAGE ON THE RIGHT SIDE, THE RIGHT TURN SIGNAL DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY. THE LIGHTS WORK , THE ISSUE IS THE PANEL AND THE WIRE IS NOW MELTED AT THE TIP. THE WIRE MELTED INTO THE LIGHT PANEL. *TR
INSERTED KEY INTO IGNITION SWITCH. ABLE TO TURN KEY. BUT NO IGNITION LIGHTS COME ON IN ANY POSITION OF THE KEY. DOES NOT START. PROBLEM APPEARS TO BE INTERMITTENT, AS AFTER SEVERAL TRIES IT MAY FUNCTION CORRECTLY WITH INCREMENTAL IGNITION ON SETTINGS AND THEN STARTING. AS THIS IGNITION SWITCH ALSO CONTROLS THE STEERING LOCK, THERE EXISTS THE POSSIBILITY OF THE STEERING BECOMING LOOKED WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. HENCE, A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE EXISTS! SHOULD STEERING BECOME LOCKED WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION (AT ANY SPEED) THE CONSEQUENCES ARE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!. *TR
WARNING ON DASH SHOWS RR BRAKE LIGHT IS OUT AND TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS IS OUT. WENT TO LOOK AT THE BACK OF THE CAR TO SEE IF THE LIGHTS WHERE ON AND THE RR LIGHT ASSEMBLY WAS DIM. OPEN THE PANEL WHERE THE BULBS ARE AND THE WIRE HARNESS WAS FRIED. THIS MIGHT BE A FIRE HAZARD. *TR UPDATED 03/27/13*LJ UPDATED 04/02/2013 *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MERCEDES BENZ C300. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT THE DEALER HE SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN IN ORDER TO DRIVE THROUGH AN AUTOMATIC DOOR WHEN SUDDEN ACCELERATION OCCURRED CAUSING THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO THE DOOR. THE DRIVER AND TWO OTHER PEOPLE WERE INJURED. THEY WERE ALL TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH INJURIES TO THE THIGH, LEG, AND A BRUISED COLLAR BONE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION FAILURE OR ANY RELATED RECALLS. THE CONTACT STATED THE FLY BY WIRE CAUSED THE ACCELERATION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,660. UPDATED 02/07/13
I CURRENTLY OWN A 2009 MERCEDES C300 THAT HAS ONGOING PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE LIGHT MALFUNCTIONING. THIS FIRST HAPPENED IN 2011 WHEN THE DUMMY LIGHT TOLD ME THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS OUT. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO A LOCAL AUTO SHOP TO HAVE THE LIGHT REPAIRED AND WAS TOLD BY THE SHOP THAT THEY WEREN'T ABLE TO CHANGE THE BULB BECAUSE THE PANEL WITH THE LIGHT WAS MELTED AND SMOKING ' THEY SUSPECTED THAT THE BULB WAS SHORTED OUT. THEY RECOMMENDED TAKING IT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT REPAIRED, AS THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I DID THIS AND WAS TOLD BY MERCEDES BENZ OF ST. CHARLES IL THAT THE ELECTRICAL WIRES WERE MELTED'AND THAT THE PANEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS WORK WAS DONE AT THE ST. CHARLES IL DEALER AROUND NOVEMBER OF 2011 AND WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE NAPERVILLE IL MERCEDES DEALER ABOUT A MONTH AGO BECAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS OUT. I WAS EXPECTING TO HAVE A QUICK LIGHT CHANGE AND PAY AROUND $20. I WAS INSTEAD TOLD THAT THE ELECTRICAL WIRES LEADING TO THE BRAKE LIGHT HAD MALFUNCTIONED AND THAT THE WIRES WERE MELTED. I WAS TOLD THAT IF A NEW BULB WERE PUT IT, IT WOULD JUST SHORT OUT AGAIN. I WAS THEN GIVEN AN ESTIMATE FOR OVER $500 FOR THIS REPAIR, AS MY CAR HAD RUN OFF THE WARRANTY A WEEK EARLIER. I HAVE NOT YET HAD THIS REPAIR DONE, AS IT IS COSTLY. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT IS A CONCERN WITH THE 2009 MERCEDES C300. THIS PROBLEM, WHICH HAS NOW OCCURRED TWO TIMES IN MY MERCEDES, IS UNDER INVESTIGATION BY THE NHTSA (NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: EA13008). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 MERCEDES BENZ C300. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SHOOK AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE SPARK PLUGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
I HAVE A 2009 MERCEDES C300. I JUST READ A NEWS STORY THAT THIS MODEL MAY BE RECALLED BASED ON NUMEROUS REPORTS ABOUT FIRE OR BURN SMELLS COMING FROM THE REAR LIGHT. MY REAR RIGHT BRAKE LIGHTS WENT OUT LAST WINTER. WHEN I TOOK IT INTO THE MERCEDES DEALERSHIP, THEY TOOK THE PANEL OUT WITH THE LIGHT BULBS AND THERE WAS A BURNT RESIDUE AROUND THE BULB THAT WAS BLOWN OUT. THEY REPLACED THE UNIT AND THE WIRING, BUT I HAD TO PAY FOR THE SERVICE. THEY THOUGHT THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A RECALL, BUT AFTER CHECKING THEIR COMPUTER, THEY DID NOT SAY THAT IT WAS RECALLED, SO I HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT. NOW THE REAR LEFT LIGHTS ARE MUCH DIMMER THAN THE RIGHT SIDE. THE DEALERSHIP RECOMMENDED THAT I HAVE THAT REPLACED AS WELL, BUT ONCE AGAIN AT MY COST. IF THIS DEFECT HAS BEEN SIGHTED IN OTHER VEHICLES FROM THIS MODEL YEAR, THEY SHOULD SERIOUSLY CONSIDER A RECALL BEFORE THE LIGHTING PANEL ACTUALLY CATCHES FIRE AND CREATES A BIGGER ISSUE FOR THE COMPANY. *TR
RIGHT AFTER THE MANUFACTURES WARRANTY ENDED, THE LEFT FRONT SRS MALFUNCTION LIGHT CAME ON IN MY VEHICLE, ACCOMPANIED BY THE AIR BAG LIGHT. I DID RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO SUFFER FROM THIS MALFUNCTION. THE LIGHT DOES NOT GO OFF AND THE AIR BAG SYSTEM WILL NOT DEPLOY IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS A MAJOR ISSUE THAT IS INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE TO FIX (APPROX. COSTS ARE OVER $1000.00 AT MY DEALERSHIP) AND SINCE IT HAS BEEN A RECURRING DEFECT IN THE VEHICLE YEAR AFTER YEAR, IT NEEDS TO BE FIXED BY MERCEDES AT NO COST TO MYSELF AND OTHER MERCEDES OWNERS. *TR
TURNED ONE VEHICLE AND MESSAGE STATED TO CHECK LEFT REAR SIGNAL, SIGNAL LIGHT APPEARED TO BE LOW. AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 30 MILES ENTIRE REAR LEFT SIGNAL/BREAK/SIDE LIGHT WAS COMPLETELY UNFUNCTIONAL. ON AUGUST 30TH A VISUAL INSPECTION SHOWED WIRING TO BE FRAYED AND A BURNT MARK ON THE PLASTIC WAS OBSERVED. *JS
PRIOR TO PULLING INTO MY GARAGE, I SMELLED BURNING ELECTRICAL WIRING. ALL WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH PANEL FOR THE LEFT REAR LIGHTS CAME ON. I OPENED THE TRUNK TO SEE IF A LIGHT BULB BURNED OUT, AND SMELLED THE BURNING WIRES. OPENING THE PANEL COVERING THE LEFT REAR LIGHTS, I SAW A BURN THROUGH SCORCHED CIRCUIT BOARD. ON CLOSER EXAMINATION, I NOTICED THE GROUND WIRE WAS THIN AND THE CAUSE OF THE SEVERALLY OVERHEATED AND PARTIALLY MELTED AREA ON THE LEFT REAR LAMP ASSEMBLY. SINCE THEN, THE MERCEDES DEALER REPLACED THE CIRCUIT AT MY EXPENSE. ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO, THE SAME THING HAPPENED ON THE RIGHT REAR TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY. IT WAS ALSO A THIN GROUND WIRE THAT HAD OVERHEATED AND PARTIALLY MELTED THE CIRCUIT BOARD. *TR
AT SOME POINT IN TIME THE LEFT REAR TAILLIGHT STARTED TO DIM DRAMATICALLY. I OPENED THE ENCLOSURE TO CHANGE THE BULBS THINKING THEY WERE BURNT OUT AND FOUND THE WIRE HARNESS AS WELL AS THE BULB DOCK HAD MELTED BECAUSE OF OVERHEATING. A FUSE DID NOT BLOW AND THE CARS COMPUTER NEVER GAVE ANY INDICATION OF THIS ISSUE. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE SYSTEM COULD ACTUALLY CATCH ON FIRE AND IT IS IN THE TRUNK AND NOT FAR FROM THE GAS TANK. AFTER RESEARCHING ON MB WORLD THIS APPEARS TO BE A KNOWN PROBLEM AND FLAW. I CAME TO A STOP BECAUSE MY CAR WAS GIVING ME ERROR CODES FOR CERTAIN PARTS OF THE RIGHT TAIL LIGHTS NOT WORKING(TURN& REVERSE) AND THEN THE FUNCTIONING LIGHTS WERE DIMMED. I TOOK A LOOK AT THE ASSEMBLY WHERE THE LIGHTS WERE PLACED AND NOTICED WHERE THE CAR'S ELECTRICAL WIRES WERE PLUGGED IN TO THE BULB ASSEMBLY THAT IT BURNED THROUGH THE ASSEMBLY. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY FIXED THE RIGHT SIDE BUT NEGLECTED TO CHECK THE LEFT BECAUSE AT THE TIME IT WAS NOT MALFUNCTIONING (AT THAT TIME I WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY). NOW, ON MARCH 8, 2015 (MY CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY) I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP AS WELL MBUSA BECAUSE THE LEFT SIDE IS NOW BEGINNING TO ACT ERRATICALLY, AND ALTHOUGH THERE IS NO BURNING (YET) I WOULD LIKE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. I CHECKED THE BULBS WHICH WERE GIVING ME ERRORS AND NONE OF THE BULBS WERE BURNED OUT. I BEGUN TO DO RESEARCH AND I FOUND THERE TO BE A RECALL FROM THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V-177, BUT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL YET I HAD REPORTED THE VERY SAME ISSUE MUCH EARLIER THAN 2014. AS I CONTACTED BOTH THE DEALERSHIP AND MBUSA THEY BOTH SAID THAT MY CAR WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND THAT MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL REFUSING TO ACCEPT THAT THEY MADE AN ERROR IN THEIR WIRING AND NEGLECTING TO FIX BOTH SIDES THE FIRST TIME I TOOK THE CAR IN. *TR
THE REAR TAIL LIGHTS ON MY MB C350 SHOWS SIGNS OF A BURNING/MELTING ON THE CONNECTOR. I INITIALLY RECEIVED A NOTICE ON MY DASH THAT THE RIGHT REAR BULB WAS BAD AND NOT WORKING. I CHECKED THE CONNECTORS AND IT SHOWED SIGNS OF MELTING/BURNING. AFTER ADJUSTING THE WIRES, THE LIGHTS WOULD WORK UNTIL THE CAR WOULD HIT A BUMP AND I WOULD HAVE TO AGAIN RESET THE WIRES. *TR
MY CAR COMPUTER WAS SHOWING A MESSAGE THAT THE RIGHT REAR SIGNAL LIGHT, FOG LIGHT NEEDED TO BE CHECKED. MY HUSBAND CHANGED THE BULBS AND THE MESSAGE WAS STILL THERE. THESE LIGHTS WERE NO LONGER OPERATING PROPERLY. TOOK THE CAR FOR SCHEDULED SERVICE AND BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE MECHANIC AT A MERCEDES BENZ DEALER/AUTO SERVICE. HE TOLD MY DAUGHTER THAT HE REMOVED THE ACCESS PANEL AND FOUND THAT THE CONNECTOR TO A BULB CARRIER, WIRE HARNESS AND BULB CARRIER WERE MELTED DUE TO A SHORT AT THE GROUND WIRE OF THE 7 PIN CONNECTOR. I CALLED THE SERVICE MGR HE COULD NOT TELL ME OR EXPLAIN WHY THIS HAPPENED OR ITS CAUSE. DISAPPOINTED BY HIS LACK OF KNOWLEDGE AND EXPLANATION OF THE CAUSE, I CONTACTED MBUSA. AT FIRST THE PERSON THAT ANSWERED TRIED TO BRUSH ME OFF " THIS CAN HAPPEN". WHEN I INSISTED FOR A BETTER ANSWER OR EXPLANATION SHE REFERRED ME TO A "[XXX]"1-800-367-6372 EXT.[XXX]. WHO STATED THAT SHE WOULD SPEAK TO OTHER TECHNICAL PEOPLE AND GET BACK TO ME. WHEN SHE GOT BACK TO ME, IT WAS BASICALLY SHE WAS GOING TO SPEAK TO THE SERVICE MGR. AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT SERVICED MY CAR.HE CALLED ME ON 2/01/12 NOT CLARIFYING THE CAUSE,JUST RE-ITERATED WHAT HE HAD PREVIOUSLY STATED. I CALL [XXX] WHO SIMPLY STATED THAT THIS HAS NEVER BEEN REPORTED BEFORE, BUT IT CAN HAPPEN, AND STATED THAT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD GIVE ME A $200.00 DISCOUNT AT THE NEXT SERVICE DATE. I WANTED AN EXPLANATION OF THE CAUSE, COULD THIS HAPPEN AGAIN, COULD THIS LEAD TO FURTHER MELTING, THAT COULD LEAD TO A FIRE, A BIGGER SHORTAGE, AND POSSIBLE ACCIDENT. I WAS TOLD BY THE MGR. AT DEALERSHIP, HE CANNOT FORESEE THE FUTURE AND HE COULD NOT PREDICT IF THIS WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. I WAS CROSSING TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC AND WAS HIT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BY TWO SUVS. THE IMPACT OF THE COLLISION CAUSED ME TO GO AIRBORNE, I WENT FRONT END FIRST INTO A DITCH EMBANKMENT. THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE FRONT END AND OF THE FRONT END WAS PUSHED BACK INTO THE MOTOR AREA, CAUSING THE HOOD OF THE CAR TO BEND BACK TOWARDS THE FRONT WINDOW. THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS WITH APPROXIMATELY $21,000 WORTH OF TOTAL DAMAGES. THE ONLY AIRBAG THAT DEPLOYED WAS THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAGS. NEITHER THE FRONT AIRBAGS NOR THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED UPON THE COLLISION. I SUSTAINED A FRACTURED NECK AND BROKE MY LEFT ARM. THE BREAK WAS SO SEVERE THAT I HAD TO UNDERGO SURGERY TO HAVE PINS AND PLATES PUT INTO MY ARM. MY DOCTOR TOLD ME THAT THE HARD FORCE OF THE IMPACT WAS THE CAUSE OF MY SEVERELY FRACTURED ARM WITH PERMANENT NERVE DAMAGE. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH MERCEDES BECAUSE I FELT THE FRONT AIR BAG AS WELL AS THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAG SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED UPON MY COLLISION INTO THE EMBANKMENT. MERCEDES REPLIED TO MY COMPLAINT STATING THE AIRBAGS WORKED PROPERLY. I PURCHASED THE CAR BASED ON THEIR ADVERTISED SAFETY FEATURES AND THE OUTCOME OF MY COLLISION WAS TOTALLY NOT WHAT I EXPECTED. BASED ON MY RESEARCH VIA THE MERCEDES C300 ONLINE CRASH TEST DEMONSTRATES THE FRONT AIRBAGS DEPLOYING WITH THE SAME FRONT END DAMAGE WITH A SIMILAR TYPE IMPACT. MERCEDES TOLD ME THEY SENT AN INSPECTOR OUT TO LOOK AT THE CAR BUT REFUSED TO PROVIDE ME WITH DETAILS OF THEIR INVESTIGATION, STATING IT WAS CONSIDER INTERNAL INFORMATION. TO THIS DAY, I STILL DON'T KNOW WHY THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. WITH THE AMOUNT OF FRONT END AND PASSENGER SIDE DAMAGE, I WOULD HAVE NEVER THOUGHT THE AIRBAGS WOULD NOT HAVE DEPLOYED. FRONT BRAKES CHECKED BY AN INDEPENDENT SHOP AND WAS ADVISED THAT FRONT PADS HAVE UNEVEN WEAR, INSIDE PADS WAS 2 MM, OUTSIDE PAD AT 8MM BECAUSE THE CALIBER IS NOT SQUEEZED IN EVENLY. BRING THE CAR BACK TO DEALER UNDER THE 50K MILES OR 4 YEAR WARRANTY FOR BRAKE CHECKED: DEALER ONLY REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS BUT NOT THE CALIBER WITH REASON THE HARDNESS OF THE PADS ARE SO SOFT AND CAUSE THE ISSUE. MB DEALER IS NOT STANDING WITH WARRANTY ON THE ENGINEERING MECHANICAL DEFECT: TRY TO MAKE A QUICK FIX AND NOT EXPENSIVE ONLY ON A MAJOR PROBLEM. IF NOT CHANGED, THERE ARE CHANCES OF ACCIDENT ON THE ROAD DURING FOG DAYS. MERCEDES HAS CHANGED THE DESIGN OF THE FOG LIGHTS IN THE FOLLOWING YEARS (AFTER 2009) OF C300. MERCEDES SHOULD CHANGE THIS DEFECTIVE DESIGN AND FIX IT FOR FREE FOR 2009 YEAR AS WELL FOR FREE. EVEN AFTER I PAY $248 TO GET THE LIGHT CHANGED MYSELF, IT WILL CRACK AGAIN SINCE IT IS MADE OF GLASS AND NOT COVERED BY ANY PROTECTIVE BARRIER. SO, EVEN AFTER PAYING TO GET THE FOG LIGHT REPLACED IS NOT GOING TO FIX THE DESIGN DEFECT.
MY COMPLAINT DOESN'T INVOLVE ONE INCIDENT, RATHER A SERIES OF ISSUES WITH THE TIRES ON MY 2009 MERCEDES C300. I HAVE HAD 11 FLAT TIRES OVER THE COURSE OF 2 1/2 YEARS, AND I'VE HAD NEW TIRES FAIL REPEATEDLY ON 1ST IMPACT FROM NOT ONLY POTHOLES, BUT ALSO VERY SMALL UNEVEN PARTS IN THE ROADS. I'VE HAD THE INNER WALLS OF MY TIRES FAIL REPEATEDLY EVEN WITHOUT IMPACT, AND MERCEDES CLAIMS IT IS NOT A PRODUCT ISSUE. THEY HAVE TOLD ME THAT THERE ARE TWO APPROVED TIRE TYPES FOR MY CAR, THE 17" CONTINENTAL LOW PROFILE CONTIPROCONTACT TIRES WHICH I HAVE AND WHICH MERCEDES SERVICE TEAM CONTINUES TO PUT ON MY CAR AND A MICHELIN MODEL WHICH I'M TOLD COSTS ABOUT $20/TIRE MORE AND WHICH MERCEDES WILL NOT USE AS REPLACEMENTS. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE BECAUSE OF THE HIGHER COST ASSOCIATED WITH THE MICHELIN TIRES. I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED, FRUSTRATED AND DISSATISFIED WITH THIS DRIVING EXPERIENCE, AND TO THIS POINT, THE BENZEL BUSCH MERCEDES DEALERSHIP IN ENGLEWOOD, NJ, HAS NOT RECTIFIED THE SITUATION. HAD IT TOWED TO MERCEDES SHOP. THERE I WAS TOLD IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING COLUMN. STEERING LOCK HAS ELECTRIC FAULT IS WHAT WAS STATED TO ME FOR A PRICE OF $1700.+ TO BE REPAIRED. THIS IS THE THIRD ELECTRICAL PROBLEM SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR. I'VE HAD THE LEFT AND RIGHT WIRING REPAIRED, THE LEFT ONE WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, THE RIGHT ONE WASN'T. THE WIRING WAS ACTUALLY BURNT. AT 5:00PM, I WAS DRIVING THE MERCEDES BENZ C300, YEAR 2009, 9010 MILES IN THE PARKING LOT OF YMCA IN LA CANADA, CA AT 3 MILES/HR. I PREPARED TO STOP THE CAR AND STEPPED ON THE BRAKE, SUDDENLY, THE ENGINE REV UP AND ACCELERATED. THE CAR JUMPED OVER THE STOP BUMPER BUT I PRESSED VERY HARD ON THE BRAKE AND FINALLY THE CAR STOPPED AND THE ENGINE WAS OFF. THE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS ABOUT 2 FEET FROM THE WALL AT THE PARKING LOT. I WAS SO SCARED BECAUSE IT WAS THE FIRST TIME I EXPERIENCED THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. I WENT TO THE GYM AND AT 6:30PM I DROVE THE CAR BACK HOME, IT IS ABOUT 6 MILES FROM MY HOUSE. I REALLY FEEL UNSAFE WITH MY ALMOST BRAND NEW MB. I'LL TAKE OFF FOR WORK NEXT MONDAY AND WILL TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR CHECKING. I WAS LUCKY THIS TIME WITH NO DAMAGE OR INJURY BECAUSE I WAS DRIVING VERY SLOWLY IN THE PARKING LOT AND READY TO STOP. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN 2009 AND OVER THE YEARS I HAVE REPLACED BOTH FRONT HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY, LEFT AND RIGHT AT THE COST OF $800.00 EACH. I WAS TOLD THAT A BULB BLEW FUSING THE WIRES TOGETHER RESULTING IN THE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE ASSEMBLY. THE DRIVER SEAT HEAD REST SIMPLY FELL APART.
NAVIGATION SYSTEM SHOWS I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ATLANTIC. 2 DEALERS HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND ANY ISSUES. ONE OF THEM SAID THE GOV.'T SHUTS OFF THE NAVIGATION SATELLITE AND THIS CAUSES THIS. THIS IS REALLY STRANGE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFELY ISSUE AS I CAN DIRECT ME TO UNSAFE, UNSECURED AREAS AND CAUSE MAJOR HARM AND DAMAGE TO BOTH THE CAR AND OCCUPANTS. *TR
TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR KEEPS COMING ON. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO 2 DIFFERENT RETAILERS AND THEY JUST RESET THE TPM. THEY CANNOT FIND ANY ISSUES WITH THE TIRES OR THE TPM. I OWN A 2009 C300 SERIES MERCEDES BENZ. WE BOUGHT OUR CAR IN 2010 AS A DEMO WITH ONLY 12,000 MILES ON IT FROM THE MERCEDES DEALERSHIP. WE HAD TO CHANGE OUT ONE OF THE TIRES 2 MONTHS AFTER WE GOT THE CAR DUE TO A BIG BUBBLE NOT IN THE TIRE. A MONTH LATER, WE THEN HAD TO CHANGE OUT THE BACK TIRE DUE TO A NAIL BEING IN THE TIRE AND THEY SAID THEY WASN'T ABLE TO FIX IT. THESE ARE CONTINENTAL TIRES WHICH ARE VERY EXPENSIVE. TODAY, 2011, THESE BACK TIRES ARE COMPLETELY WORN OUT AND NEED TO BE CHANGED AGAIN. I AM NOT SURE IF THESE TIRES ARE DEFECTS ARE WHAT.... I AM VERY TIRED OF THIS, I THOUGHT I WAS BUYING THE BEST.... *TR
