A gasoline smells fills the cabin and the outside surrounding area the vehicle continually to the point making anyone surrounding the vehicle and or sitting in the front and back seats physically sick. The gasoline smells omits continually from the backseat and or trunk area no matter the amount of fuel that is in the tank. It is a fire hazard and also health hazard as well.
With less than 40,000 miles on the odometer, I noticed a gas smell both inside the car and outside. I was able to access the fuel filter assembly on the top of the gas tank and found it had a substantial leak resulting in a puddle of fuel on the assembly. The car has never been in a wreck on had any damage that would cause this problem. I researched and found earlier years of the same model had this problem resulting in Mercedes Benz extending the warranty to 150,000 miles for this part. They have refused to warranty my car. This is a major safety issue and by releasing gas fumes into the atmosphere is an environmental problem as well.
There is a strong odor of gasoline inside the passenger compartment and around the outside of the vehicle when the gas tank is filled. A previous maintenance code of 0456 was triggered. Several repairs have been done to try and solve this problem, but the issue still remains. There is currently no recall for this specific VIN model but Mercedes Benz have issued the recall for other models with the same issue.

On October 6, 2021 I took my vehicle to Mercedes Benz of Stevens Creek because ewhen I filled my gas tank there was a very strong smell of gasoline inside the car and in the garage. The service department found the passenger side fuel sender upper cover leaking. The same situation is occuring presently, April 5, 2023, very strong smell of gasoline inside the car and garage after I fill the car with gasoline. The Mercedes Benz of Stevens Creek invoice # is 934052, Tag # TEK93. This is a safety issue that could ceate a fire hazard if the vehicle were to be involved in an accident.
I just recently discovered that after filling my car with gas, there is a strong odor of gas filled in the garage for over 24hours. When I googled the issue, I discovered that NHTSA did confirm issues with Mercedes E350 from 2003-2009. However, I have also discovered that several owners outside of that model year period are having the exact issue. I ask you please reconsider and open the recall so that Mercedes can pay to fix my car before a fatality occurs. Strong fuel smell after refueling and topping off the gas tank. The smell is inside as well as outside driver side rear door. This occurs each time after I put gas in the car and the smell remains.

While filling the gas tank, gas continued to pour from the pump, even though the tank was full. Usually the pump automatically stops dispensing gas when the tank is full. Gas splashed all over my car and myself. Also, my car often smells like gas after filling up the tank. It seems dangerous to have gas fumes inside of my car. I feel like a rolling bomb driving after a fill up. What’s going on?
The contact owns a 2011 Mercedes-Benz E350. The contact stated that while driving at 30 MPH, a strong fuel odor was detected inside the cabin of the vehicle. The contact rolled down the windows, but the fuel odor was still detectable. The contact pulled over and inspected the vehicle, but there was no visible fuel leakage. The failure recurred three times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and it was diagnosed that a cover for the passenger's side fuel sending unit was leaking gasoline. The passenger's side fuel sending unit needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 194,000.
My vehicle developed a raw fuel smell inside and outside the vehicle. Also the check engine light came on. The problem was resolved by the dealer after some time under PZEV warranty. What I am concerned with is why was this not a recall as the vehicle fuel vapors could of caused a fire in our garage or while we were operating it. Please note there was raw gas on the outside of the fuel tank.
Strong smell of gas noted at the driver rear wheel well after a fillup. Under the rear seat, the top of the fuel tank is under a pool of gasoline. The cap that covers pump/filter/sending units is leaking. I cleaned up the gasoline, and almost immediately the indent on the top of the tank began filling up with gasoline again. Air is getting into the fuel system, making it difficult to start. No warning lights to indicate an issue.
STRONG SMELL OF FUEL AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE, INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. APPEARS TO BE SIMILAR TO ISSUES RELATED TO THE 2003-2009 MODEL YEARS PREVIOUSLY INVESTIGATED BY NHTSA AND CLOSED IN DECEMBER 2014.
STRONG GAS ODOR AFTER FILLING AND FOR FEW DAYS TOOK IT FOR REPAIR FIND THE SENDING UNIT COVER LEAKING IT HAD FILLED THE COVER AND PART OF THE TANK.THE ODOR WAS ON AND OF ABOUT SIX MONTHS AGO BUT ONLY IT WAS GETTING WORSE LATELY AND NEEDED REPAIR. I THINK MERCEDES COMPANY SHOULD TAKE THIS SAFETY ISSUE SERIOUSLY BEFORE MAJOR ....
PURCHASED A 2011 MERCEDES E350 IN 2019, IN MARCH 2020 I FOUND OUT THE FUEL FILTER FLANGE IS CRACKED. FURTHERMORE, LEAKING FUEL SLOWLY CAUSING ME TO BE AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE IT CAN CATCH ON FIRE. THEREFORE, A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM IN 2012, BUT NOW NO MERCEDES DEALERSHIP IS HONORING THIS SITUATION IN MY AREA. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 MERCEDES-BENZ E350C. THE CONTACT BELIEVED FUEL WAS LEAKING FROM THE FUEL TANK. HE STATED THAT HE COULD SMELL A FUEL ODOR BOTH OUTSIDE AND INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT DROVE TO MERCEDES-BENZ OF MARIN (540 FRANCISCO BLVD W, SAN RAFAEL, CA 94901, 415-233-6509) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT NO DEFECTS WERE FOUND. THE FUEL ODOR CONTINUED AFTER THE INSPECTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000.
MY MERCEDES BENZ 2011 E350 SMELLED LIKE RAW GAS INSIDE THE DRIVERS COMPARTMENT APPARENTLY IT WAS A LEAK FROM THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK, MY DAUGHTERS 2010 C300 ALSO JUST WENT IN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM LEAKING FROM THE GAS TANK AND EVEN SOAKED THE REAR SEAT CUSHION,EVEN THOUGH THEY REPAIRED IT I AM WORRIED THAT IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN ESPECIALLY IF THE PARTS REPLACED WERE NOT UPDATED, IT SMELLED UP MY GARAGE AND I FEAR IF IT LEAKS AGAIN IT COULD START A FIRE IN MY GARAGE, PLEASE ADVISE. IT APPEARS IT HAPPENS ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU FILL UP THE GAS TANK
FUEL TANK WAS FILLED UNTIL AUTOMATIC NOZZLE SHUT OFF WAS ACTIVATED. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN HOME APPROX 3.5 MILES AND PARKED IN THE STREET. NEXT DAY THERE WAS A PUDDLE OF FUEL APPROX 2 FT X 2 FT ON THE PAVEMENT AND UNDER THE CAR, JUST FORWARD OF THE RIGHT REAR TIRE. I WATCHED FOR SEVERAL MINUTES, AND NOTICED IT WAS STILL LEAKING AT THE RATE OF ONE DROP APPROX EVERY 2 MINS. THINKING THAT PERHAPS A HOSE BETWEEN THE FILL PORT AND FUEL TANK WAS LEAKING, I DROVE IT FOR APPROX 15 MINS, HOPING TO UTILIZE ENOUGH FUEL TO LOWER THE LEVEL OF FUEL IN THE TANK AND/OR HOSE. I RETURNED HOME AND PARKED THE CAR AGAIN. THE CAR WAS STILL DRIPPING FUEL AT THE SAME RATE. I MOVED THE VEHICLE INTO MY DRIVEWAY TO TRY TO ASCERTAIN THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK. I JACKED IT UP, REMOVED THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL, BUT STILL COULDN'T SEE THE FUEL TANK CLEARLY. SO I ALSO REMOVED THE PLASTIC WINDAGE PANEL, WHICH COVERS THE UNDERCARRIAGE OF THE BODY FROM FRONT TO REAR WHEEL. IT WAS COMPLETELY FUEL SOAKED AT THE REAR. I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE EXHAUST PIPE, A POSSIBLE SOURCE OF IGNITION, IS ROUTED DIRECTLY IN BACK OF THE FUEL TANK. I RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ON THE MERCEDES FORUM WEBSITE, AND DISCOVERED THAT A DEFECTIVE FUEL FILTER FLANGE, WHICH EVENTUALLY CRACKS AND ALLOWS FUEL TO LEAK AND PUDDLE ON TOP OF THE TANK, IS A COMMON PROBLEM. HOWEVER, IT APPEARS THAT THE "BUILD DATE" OF MY PARTICULAR CAR (08/10) IS NOT COVERED BY MB CAMPAIGN 2013020002. YET, THE PROBLEM IS IDENTICAL TO THE VEHICLES WHICH ARE COVERED, AND RECEIVED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY.
STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE DETECTED. REPAIR TECHNICIAN IDENTIFIED A FUEL TANK LEAK AND STATED OTHER MERCEDES EFFECTED BY THE ISSUE. I CALL MBUSA WHO SAID THEY HAVE NO RECALLS OR WARRANTY EXTENSIONS ON THIS MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR.
