LIGHTS GO OUT AFTER DRIVING LESS THAN A 1/4 MILE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS COMING TO A STOP, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE SPEED AND RPMS INCREASED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. THE CONTACT POWERED THE VEHICLE OFF AND NOTICED BLUE SMOKE EMITTING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, BUT THE FAILURE WAS UNABLE TO BE DETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE HAD BAD SOLDER JOINT. LIGHTING CUT OFF IN MIDDLE OF THE DESERT AT 65+ MPH. I PAID 300+ FOR A NEW LCM.
MAIN HEADLIGHTS STARTED GOING OUT. PROBLEM FIRST NOTED AFTER DRIVING THROUGH HEAVY RAIN ON 7/9/15. HEADLIGHTS WILL COME ON, BUT GO OFF WITHOUT WARNING AFTER VARYING PERIODS OF TIME. WILL FLASH ON HIGH-BEAM BUT NOT STAY ON. ALL OTHER EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR LIGHTS WORK NORMALLY.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED AND THEN RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WAS BINDING UP AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I JUST RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FROM A SMALL DEALER ON 6/30/15. ON 7/8/15, AT ABOUT 8PM, I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM A LONG TRIP FOR WORK, GOT ABOUT 20 MILES INTO MY 70 MILE DRIVE, WHEN IT SEEMED LIKE THE ROAD IN FRONT OF ME WAS DARKER THAN IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN, I MADE SURE MY HEADLIGHT SWITCH WAS ON HEADLIGHT MODE. IT WAS ACTUALLY ON AUTOMATIC MODE, SO SWITCHED IT TO REG HEADLIGHT MODE. I WAS NOT USE TO THIS NEW CAR YET, HAVING NOT DRIVEN IT MUCH AT NIGHT YET AND JUST THOUGHT IT WAS MY IMAGINATION, THAT THEY WERE NOT ON AS THEY SEEMED TO HAVE WORKED PREVIOUSLY. I KEPT DRIVING AS I COULD STILL SEE THE ROAD IN FRONT ON ME BUT IT WAS DEFINITELY GETTING DARKER AND DARKER AND NOW CARS COMING FROM THE OTHER DIRECTION WERE FLASHING ME, SO I HAD A FEELING THAT THEY WERE NOT WORKING. WHEN IT WAS SAFE TO DO, AFTER TRYING UNSUCCESSFULLY TO GET THE HEADLIGHTS WORKING BY TURNING THE SWITCH DIAL, I IMMEDIATELY FOUND A SOMEWHAT SAFE SPOT TO PULL OVER. I GOT OUT, LOOKED IN THE FRONT AND SURELY THEY WERE NOT WORKING BUT ONLY IN FLASH MODE. I TURNED CAR OFF, CHECKED FUSES, WAITED ABOUT 10 MORE MINUTES, THEN STARTED CAR AGAIN. THEY FINALLY CAME ON, SO I TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE SITUATION AND MADE A DASH TOWARDS HOME AGAIN, WHICH WAS PROBABLY ANOTHER 35 MILES OR SO. I DO HAVE AAA, IF I NEEDED TO USE IT BUT JUST WANTED TO GET HOME. I MADE IT HOME SAFELY, THANK GOD BUT THIS SEEMS TO BE INTERMITTENT, AS THEY WORK SOMETIME AND OTHER TIMES THEY DON'T. I WAS WONDERING IF THERE IS ANY RECALL ON THIS MATTER AS IT SEEMS TO BE A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND I DO NOT WANT TO BE IN ANYMORE POSITIONS WHERE THIS KEEPS HAPPENING. I WORK LATE A LOT BUT SINCE THIS HAS HAPPENED, I'M EXTREMELY NERVOUS DRIVING CAR PAST A CERTAIN TIME NOW AND CAN'T AFFORD THIS TO KEEP HAPPENING AS THIS IS MY MAIN CAR, I USE DAILY. I RECEIVED A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM LETTER ON APRIL 14 2014, REGARDING MY LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE. THE MODULE WENT OUT ON JUNE 30 2015. I HAD THE LETTER BUT I FORGOT ABOUT IT UNTIL I WAS LOOKING UP SOME PAPERS JUST RECENTLY. OF COURSE I HAD IT FIXED BY A PRIVATE GARAGE ON 6/ 30/ 2015. IT ONLY HAD 61,416 MILES . ON IT AT THAT TIME. I CAN NOT SEE WHY I CAN NOT BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIR NOW. IT COST ME $387.02. I HAVE BEEN A FORD CUSTOMER SINCE 1956.

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAITED UNTIL THE HEADLIGHTS RE-ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE CONTACT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,500.
I STARTED MY CAR AFTER DARK AND DID NOT HAVE ANY HEADLIGHTS. ALL THE OTHER LIGHTS WORKED. THE ONLY WAY I COULD MAKE THE HEADLIGHTS FUNCTION WAS BY HOLDING THE HIGH BEAM SWITCH ON THE SIGNAL LEVER TOWARD ME ALL THE WAY HOME, OVER 1 HOUR.. WHEN I GOT HOME I LOOKED ON THE INTERNET TO SEE IF THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND IT IS WITH THIS YEAR AND MODEL CAR. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD WARN AND ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM.
I WAS DRIVING IN LOW LIGHT CONDITIONS WITH THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH IN THE 'ON' POSITION AND NOTED NO LIGHTS, I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTED ALL OTHER LIGHTS BRAKE/TAIL/RUNNING WERE IN WORKING ORDER. AFTER A BRIEF OUTAGE THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON - AND I CONTINUED ON. LATER THAT EVENING APPROXIMATELY 11P, IN THE DARK, I WAS TO RETURN HOME. THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED TO LIGHT AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS AND I HAD TO DRIVE HOME WHILE HOLDING MY HIGH BEAM SELECTOR IN THE FLASH TO PASS POSITION. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 7 MILES THE HEADLIGHTS CAME BACK ON AND I MADE IT HOME. I CHECKED THE INTERNET AND FOUND A 'CUSTOMER SATISFACTION' CAMPAIGN, THOUGH NOT A RECALL. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED THE ISSUE, THEY HAD ME IN THE NEXT DAY, REPLACED THE PART AND HAD ME BACK ON THE ROAD IN UNDER AN HOUR, AT NO COST. THE PART ALONE IS $260 ON INTERNET SITES, AND I'VE HEARD OF DEALER CHARGING 600-7000 DOLLARS FOR THE REPAIR - PRIOR TO THE CAMPAIGN. I'M SATISFIED AND HOPE IT IS FIXED FOR GOOD NOW.

THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE UPPER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. VEHICLE HEADLIGHTS WORK INTERMITTENTLY . CRUSE CONTROL DOES NOT RESET OR TURN ON WHEN SUPPOSED TO. THIS IS ALSO AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM, SOMETIMES RESETTING, AND SOMETIMES NOT. HEADLIGHTS WOULD SOMETIMES NOT TURN ON WHEN DRIVING UNLESS PULLING TURN SIGNAL ARM TOWARD STEERING WHEEL AND HOLDING. HIGH BEAMS ONLY WOULD WORK.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 14V704000 (STEERING) AND 13V385000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,157. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
HEADLIGHTS GO OFF WITHOUT WARNING AT VARIOUS TIMES INCLUDING AFTER DARK AND AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THEY COME ON AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING AND WITHOUT CONTROL FROM THE OPERATOR. NO MANIPULATION OF THE LIGHT CONTROLS APPEARS TO HELP OR IMPACT THIS RANDOM ACTION.
VEHICLE STEERING BECAME STIFF. BROUGHT TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THE LOWER STEERING SHAFT AND INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WERE SEIZED FROM COLUMN. HAD TO HAVE BOTH STEERING SHAFTS REPLACED. DEFINITELY WAS DANGEROUS AND ACCIDENT COULD HAVE OCCURRED. TOTAL COST OF REPLACEMENT WAS $882.55. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT SARAT FORD, 245 SPRINGFIELD ST., AGAWAM, MA 01001, 413-786-0430. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THERE WAS A SAFETY REVIEW FOR THIS PROBLEM THAT WAS INITIATED IN THE FALL OF 2014. WHAT WAS THE END RESULT OF THE REVIEW? DO YOU ANTICIPATE A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE? I RECENTLY(2 MONTHS) RETURNED MY 2003 GRAND MARQUIS DUE TO THE HEADLIGHTS GOING OUT INTERMITTENTLY. MY MECHANIC EXPLAINED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE FAILURES OF THE LCM. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE DEVICE IN JANUARY. LAST NIGHT WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN THE DARK, THE LIGHTS WENT OUT AGAIN. THIS WILL AGAIN NEED TO BE REPLACED. ARE THEY USING FAULTY PARTS FOR THE RECALL? THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND I AM LUCKY TO BE ALIVE TO EVEN TYPE THIS TODAY. *TR
I NOTICED A LOUD GROANING SOUND FROM MY CAR ANYTIME I TURNED LEFT OR RIGHT. I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT SHOP, WHICH FLUSHED THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM AND REPLACED THE POWER STEERING PUMP. AFTERWARDS, THE CAR'S STEERING WAS EVEN WORSE, TURNING FAILED MULTIPLE TIMES, WOULD NOT TURN LEFT OR RIGHT WITHOUT EXCESSIVE FORCE. I FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND MY 4-YEAR-OLD WHILE OPERATING THE CAR. IT IS STILL AT THE SHOP, NOW THEY WILL REPLACE RACK AND PINION SHAFT, AND/OR LOWER INTERMEDIATE SHAFT, TOTALING NEAR $2000. I CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY, NOT WHEN THERE IS A RECALL FOR GRAND MARQUIS' 2005-2011, MANUFACTURED MARCH 4, 2004-2011 (RECALLS 13S08, 14S25) FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUES. THE CONTACT HAD TO USE THE HIGH BEAMS AND THE DAYTIME RUNNING LAMPS EACH TIME THE FAILURE OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

HEADLIGHTS FLICKER ON AND OFF WITHOUT WARNING. I HAVE TO HOLD MY BRIGHT LIGHTS SWITCH TOWARDS ME IN ORDER TO SEE ON THE ROAD AT NIGHT ON MY WAY TO AND FROM ANY GIVEN DESTINATION WITHOUT WARNING. I'VE HAD IT FIXED BUT DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V861000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING). THE PART TO DO THE RECALL REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH AT NIGHT, THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS, TAIL LIGHTS, AND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. IN ADDITION, THE HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS WERE INOPERATIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN CAUTIOUSLY WITH THE HAZARD WARNING LIGHTS ACTIVATED. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V861000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING); HOWEVER, THE REMEDY INVOLVED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE AND NOT THE OTHER COMPONENTS THAT FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THERE WERE 355,000 RECALLS #14V704000, 13V385000 FOR 205-2011 MERCURY GRAND MARQUISE BUT DOES NOT INCLUDE 2004 MARQUISE, HOWEVER, MY MARQUISE ACCORDING TO MY MECHANIC SAYS THE ISSUE WITH MY CAR IS THE SAME. THERE ARE OVER 50 COMPLAINTS PERTAINING TO 2004 GRAND MARQUISE. FORD SAYS MY CAR DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE ON RECALL LIST HOWEVER IT SHOULD BE BECAUSE MY 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUISE HAS THE SAME EXACT ISSUE AS THE 2005-2011S. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IT SHOULD IMMEDIATELY BE ADDRESSED, FORD HAS NOT IDENTIFIED MY VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH 2004'S WAS THE YEAR THESE CARS WERE BUILT.
DRIVING AT NIGHT, HEADLIGHTS TURN OFF SUDDENLY, WILL COME BACK ON IF LIGHTS ARE TURNED OFF AND TURNED BACK ON - HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN A 7 MILE DRIVE. DEALER REPLACED MODULE - LIGHTS STILL TURNING OFF - NO HELP FROM DEALER OR FORD MOTOR.
HEADLIGHTS GO OUT UNEXPECTEDLY AND W/O WARNING. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT ALL DIFFERENT SPEEDS, IN A PARKING LOT 5-10MPH, ON ROADWAY 30-45MPH AND ON THE HIGHWAY65-70MPH. LIGHTS WILL COME BACK ON JUST AS UNEXPECTEDLY W/O APPARENT CAUSE. HAVE SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED CAR WITH NO EFFECT, TURNED LIGHT SWITCH ON/OFF, NO EFFECT AND THEN THEY WILL TURN ON AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES WHILE PARKED. SOMETIMES THE LIGHTS WILL TURN ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE STAYING LIGHT. *TR
STEERING HAS BECOME PROGRESSIVELY MORE DIFFICULT OVER THE PAST TWO MONTHS. INITIALLY THE TIGHT STEERING WOULD GO AWAY AFTER DRIVING, OR ONLY BE SLIGHTLY NOTICEABLE. HOWEVER AT THIS POINT, THE WHEEL CAN ONLY BE TURNED BY APPLYING SIGNIFICANT FORCE, AND THEN WHEN THE WHEEL DOES TURN, IT DOES SO IN A JERKY FASHION.
I WENT TO DRIVE MY CAR FROM MY HOME PARKING SPACE AND WHEN TRIED TO TURN THE WHEEL IT WOULDN'T TURN. I TRIED AGAIN AND GOT THE STEERING WHEEL TO TURN SOME AMOUNT BUT IT WAS PRETTY HARD TO DO. AS I TURNED THE WHEEL A LITTLE MORE IT EASED UP A BIT AND THEN BECAME HARD AGAIN. PART OF TURNING THE WHEEL IS QUITE HARD AND THEN PART IS A LITTLE MORE NORMAL. THE STEERING SEEMS VERY BAD AND HARD TO CONTROL. I HAD NO PREVIOUS PROBLEMS AND HAVE NOT SUFFERD ANY DAMAGE FROM DRIVING. I WAS AFRAID SOMETHING WAS LODGED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT SO I CHECKED AND COULD SEE NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. I PARKED THE CAR AND DROVE MY OTHER CAR FOR THE WEEK. SOMETHING IS PHYSICALLY WRONG WITH THE CAR STEERING AND I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON ANY ROAD. I'M AFRAID IT WILL BREAK WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR IS NOT DRIVEN VERY MUCH AND IS IN PRETTY NICE SHAPE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG AND STARTED TO TURN UP A STREET AND IT TOOK 2 LANE'S BECAUSE THE STEERING CALM. FROZE UP AND HARD TO TURN. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME ALL THE 2004 FORD GRAND M. HAVE THE SAME PROB. . HOWEVER ,THEY HAVE NOT BEEN RECALLED ONLY THE 2005 - 2011. I HAD IT FIXED BECAUSE I NEED MY CAR. ITS THE LOWER STEERING SHAFT. BY THE WAY THE CAR ONLY HAS 33890 MILE'S. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE LEFT HAND (DRIVER SIDE) HEAT SHIELD THAT COVERS THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD HAS COMPLETELY RUSTED AT THE BOLTING POINTS CAUSING THE COVER TO DISLODGE AND DRAG AGAINST THE STEERING SHAFT . SEVERAL TIMES WHILE TURNING AT INTERSECTIONS, ESPECIALLY WHEN MAKING LEFT TURNS, THE STEERING WOULD TEMPORARILY LOCK UP FOR A FEW SECONDS MAKING TURNING EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS. ONCE I ALMOST STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE DUE TO THE STEERING BEING LOCKED WHILE TURNING. I INITIALLY SUSPECTED LOW POWER STEERING FLUID BUT FLUID CHECKED CORRECT AND PUMP SEEMS TO BE WORKING FINE. I DID NOT NOTICE THE RUSTED COVER PINNED BETWEEN THE STEERING SHAFT AND MANIFOLD UNTIL I REMOVED THE ENGINE COVER AND AIR INTAKE TUBING TO ACCESS THE SPARK PLUGS. I REMOVED THE RUSTED SHIELD AND THE CAR TURNS JUST FINE NOW. I HAVE THE RUSTED SHIELD AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION IF NEEDED. THANKS *TR

WHEN I GOT HOME I CHECKED TO SEE IF THE RECALL WAS LEGIT. THE RECALL STATED THAT ONLY 2005 THRU 2011 CARS WERE AFFECTED. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TO SEE IF MY 2004 WITH THE SAME PROBLEM COULD BE COVERED BY THIS RECALL AND THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD DO NOTHING! *TR
WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME AT NIGHT, HER HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT ON HER 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. SHE TRIED ALL COMBINATIONS TO GET THE LIGHTS BACK ON AND HAD TO HOLD THE HIGH BEAM PASSING LIGHT UP WHILE DRIVING THE REST OF THE WAY HOME. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER TO GET IT REPAIRED AND THEY TOLD ME IT COULD TAKE A MONTH OR MORE TO GET THE PART TO FIX IT. IN OUR AREA, THUNDERSTORMS COME UP REGULARLY DURING THE DAY, SO THE CAR CAN'T EVEN BE DRIVEN DURING THE DAY. FORD MOTOR COMPANY SAYS THAT THEY CAN'T PROVIDE A LOANER OR A RENTAL SO THAT WE CAN DRIVE SAFELY UNTIL IT IS FIXED. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY HEADLIGHTS GOING OUT IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

THE CONSUMER STATED SHE BEGAN NOTICING THE HEADLIGHT FAILURE IN JUNE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE PROBLEM WAS COVERED BY THE RECALL PROGRAM. THE DEALER ORDERED THE REPLACEMENT. HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER WAS UNABLE TO PROVIDE A DATE, AS TO WHEN THE PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE. *JB
