I OWN A 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS LS THAT UNEXPECTEDLY GOES INTO UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WHEN SLOWING DOWN OR STOPPING VEHICLE. I NEVER KNOW WHEN THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION WILL OCCUR. FIRST NOTICED PROBLEM AT ABOUT 24000 TILL NOW AT 71000 MILES. THE PROBLEM OCCURS USUALLY IN A LINE OF TRAFFIC AS I AM SLOWING DOWN OR SLOWING DOWN TO STOP AT A STOP SIGN OR TRAFFIC LIGHT. OR PARKING THE VEHICLE. SUDDENLY THE ENGINE STARTS RACING AND SOMETIMES THE VEHICLE WILL JUMP FORWARD RAPIDLY (SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION). I HAVE TO APPLY THE BRAKES RAPIDLY AND WITH EXTREME PRESSURE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME OR TO KEEP FROM RUNNING A TRAFFIC LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. MOST OF THE TIME WHEN THE ENGINE RACES AND I APPLY THE BRAKES THE REAR WHEELS WILL CONTINUE TO SPIN AT A HIGH RATE EVEN TO THE POINT OF CAUSING THE RUBBER ON THE TIRES TO SMOKE AND STILL TRY TO PUSH ME FORWARD. AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES I MUST TURN OFF THE ENGINE USING THE KEY TO STOP THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM. I NOTICED THE PROBLEM NOT LONG AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR AND REPORTED IT TO THE DEALER DUB HERRING FORD IN PICAYUNE, MS. WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO CHECK OR FIX THE PROBLEM. THEY SEEMED NOT TO WORRY OR BE CONCERNED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM! I REPORTED THE PROBLEM SEVERAL TIMES TO THE DEALER WITH NO SUCCESS. I THEN REPORTED IT TO THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY REFERRED ME TO THE DEALER WHICH DIDN'T DO ANYTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM TO START WITH. I THEN TOOK THE CAR TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP AND THEY TRIED TO FIND OUT FROM THE DEALER AND FORD CO. IF THERE WAS A RECALL OR NOTATION OR FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. THE INDEPENDENT SHOP SAID THE DEALERS AND FORD CO. WOULDN'T GIVE HIM ANY INFORMATION CONCERNING THE PROBLEM. THEY ASKED ME TO CONTACT FORD MOTOR CO. AND SEE IF I COULD GET ANY RESPONSE FOR A FIX OR REPAIR AND GOT NO HELP FROM THEM. I AM LODGING A FORMAL COMPLAINT AGAINST FORD AND THE DEALER. *TR
HEAD LIGHT TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING FOR NO APPARENT REASON , THEN CYCLE BACK ON FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN TURN OFF AGAIN , THIS CONTINUES WITH OUT END. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLES SPEED INCREASED. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO REDUCE SPEED. THE CONTACT MANEUVERED ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, IT BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE FAILURE OCCURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS GO OUT WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. THIS FAILURE IS UNPREDICTABLE AND LEAVES THE DRIVER LITERALLY "IN THE DARK" WITH THE VEHICLE MOVING AT WHATEVER SPEED AND DIRECTION IT IS GOING AT. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS MY RESEARCH HAS FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE'S "LIGHT CONTROL MODULE" (LCM). FURTHER RESEARCH REVEALS THAT THE FORD / MERCURY AUTOMOTIVE DEALERSHIPS MAINTAIN A READY STOCK OF THIS PART FOR REPLACEMENT AT THE HEFTY AVERAGE PRICE OF $ 700.00. GIVEN THE SEVERITY OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE IT IS DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND WHY THERE HAS BEEN NO APPARENT ACTION BY NHTSA TO REQUIRE A RECALL BY THE MANUFACTURER. THIS FAILURE RECURS FREQUENTLY AND UNPREDICTABLY. *TR
THE NIGHTTIME HEAD LIGHTS FAILED ON THE MERCURY MARQUIS. 2004 MODEL; WE BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE MODULE REPLACED WHICH IS EXPENSIVE. *TR
MY 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS HEADLIGHTS KEEP TURNING OFF WITHOUT WARNING AT NIGHT. I ALMOST KILLED A PEDESTRIAN AS THE LIGHTS WENT OUT AT NIGHT AND I COULDN'T SEE BEFORE STOPPING THE CAR. I DID HOWEVER STRIKE THE EMPTY BABYSTROLLER THEY WERE PUSHING WHICH CONTAINED GROCERIES. I'M TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT IT IS A MODULE. COSTING $500. PLUS $99 AN HOUR TO DIAGNOSE ( WHICH WILL OF COURSE BE A MIN OF TWO HOURS ) AD THEN THE LABOR FOR TOTAL OF ABOUT $1,000. THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN THE NOT. I'VE LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND LOTS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. FORTUNATELY THERE HAVE BEEN NO INJURIES OR DEATHS YET AS A RESULT THAT I'M AWARE OF. SO WHEN THERE IS A DEATH BECAUSE OF THIS, WHOSE IS GOING TO TELL THE FAMILY THAT THIS WAS APROBLEM THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED OR FIXED. WE SHOULD HAVE TO WAIT FOR INJURY OR DEATH FOR ACTION TO BE TAKEN. THE DEALER ( LINCOLN MERCURY) SAYS ITS A DEFECTIVE PART ( MODULE). THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE SINCE YOU CAN'T LEGALLY DRIVE A CAR @ NIGHT WITHOUT LIGHTS. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS AND MAKE SOMETHING HAPPEN, PLEASE ! *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME WITH MY WIFE AND WIPERS CAME ON IN DELAY MODE BY THEMSELVES WITHOUT ME TOUCHING ANYTHING . I CALLED MY DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY THOUGHT IT WAS THE WIPER MOTOR OR THE MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH . FIRST I REPLACED MULTI FUNCTION SWITCH AND THE SAME ISSUE WIPER CAME ON IN DELAY MODE . I THEN REPLACED THE WIPER MOTOR AND THAT WORKED UNTIL 3/19/14 WHILE I TOOK MY CAR OUT FOR MY 31ST WEDDING ANNIVERSARY WITH MY WIFE WE WERE DRIVING TO GO TO DINNER AND MY WIPER CAME ON ONCE AGAIN AT THIS POINT I AM SO OUTRAGED AT THIS BECAUSE I JUST PUT NEW WIPER BLADE ON 2 DAYS BEFORE AND THEY JUST STARTED GOING ON IN THE SAME WAY AS BEFORE IN DELAY MODE . I ONCE AGAIN HAVE TO LOOK INTO THIS WIPER ISSUE AND I AM SICK TO DEATH NOTHING EVER GETS RECALLED OR THE COST TAKEN BY FORD FOR THE MANY ISSUES WITH THIS CAR. THERE IS NOW 44000 MILE ON A CAR I ONLY USE WHEN IT'S NICE OUT AND THIS IS JUST ONE MORE PROBLEM TO DEAL WITH AGAIN . *TR
HEADLIGHTS GO OUT WHILE DRIVING. THEY WILL STAY OFF FOR A 2 OR 3 MIN. AND WILL COME BACK ON FOR A WHILE, THEN GO OFF AGAIN. I HAVE HAD THE LIGHT GO OFF IN A 5 MILE DRIVE 4 TIMES. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. I HAVE NOT HAD A CRASH, BUT WAS PULLED OVER BY THE POLICE. I HAVE REPLACED ONE PART, THE MULTI-PURPOSE SWITCH AND IT HAD NO EFFECT ON THE LIGHTS. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS OF RESEARCH I BELIEVE THE CAUSE IS THE LIGHT CONTROL MODULE, THIS PART RUNS FROM 400 TO OVER 700 DOLLARS. I AM ON A FIXED INCOME AND DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. FORD SHOULD BE THE ONE TO REPLACE THE PART. THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE LIGHTS GOING OUT. SINCE THE PURCHASE DATE THE SWITCH WAS ON AUTO, AFTER CHANGING THE M-P SWITCH I PUT THE HEADLIGHTS ON MANUAL ON/OFF. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEING GOING ON FOR OVER 2 MONTHS. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. VEHICLE HARD TO STEER. HAD TO REPLACE LOWER STEERING SHAFT. *TR
LOSS OF HEADLIGHTS WHILE NIGHT DRIVING. THIS HAPPENED ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. CORRECTION REQUIRED WAS THE REPLACEMENT OF THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE (LCM) ON A 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS GS ($512,00). WE UNDERSTAND THIS PROBLEM ENTAILS 2000 TO 2007 FORD CROWN VICTORIA AND MERCURY MARQUIS MODELS ONLY, AND FORD MOTOR CO, HAS RECEIVED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING BUT REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL NOTICE. *TR
2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS OUTSIDE LIGHTS GOES OFF AND ON INTERMITTENTLY. I HAVE 72,000 MILES ON MY CAR. IT SUDDENLY HAPPEN ONE DAY WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT FROM MY SECOND JOB ON THE HIGHWAY. IT SCARED ME NEARLY TO DEATH AND IS VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
HEADLIGHTS ON MY 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING. ALL OF THE FUSES ARE OK SO PROBLEM IS SOMEWHERE ELSE. PARKING LIGHTS AND BLINKERS STILL WORK. CAN HOLD THE HIGH BEAM LEVER TOWARDS THE DRIVER SEAT AND LIGHTS WILL COME ON BUT I MUST HOLD THE LEVER IN WHILE DRIVING WITH ONE HAND. *TR
STEERING WAS TIGHT AND AS I TURNED THE WHEEL, THE STEERING BECAME LOOSE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THAT THE STEERING SHAFT ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF RUST. HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT I WAS CLOSE TO HAVING A FULL STEERING COLLAPSE. I NOW KNOW THAT THIS WAS A RECALL ITEM ON THE 2005 - 2011 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. WHY WASN'T THE 2004 VEHICLE INCLUDED?
I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE AND THE HEADLIGHTS JUST TURNED OFF. I COULD NOT SEE THE ROAD. IT LASTED FOR ABOUT A MINUTE WHERE I HAVE TO STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND WAIT. AFTER THAT THEY TURNED ON. THEN A FEW DAYS LATER THEY DID THE SAME THING. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 10 TIMES
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 BUICK RENDEZVOUS. THE CONTACT STARTED THE IGNITION AND THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE DISPLAYED A HOT LEVEL READING WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE COOLANT WARNING INDICATOR. THE ENGINE BEGAN TO OVERHEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THEY REPLACED THE HEAD GASKET. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000.
ALL HEADLIGHTS QUIT WITHOUT NOTICE OF ANY SORT. AFTER REPLACING BULBS AND SWITCHES, I WENT DIRECTLY TO FORD. THEY CHARGED ALMOST $700.00 TO REPLACE THE "PROCESSOR LIGHTING CONTROL", WHICH THE SERVICE CLERK EXPLAINED WAS LIKELY THE PROBLEM. SINCE FORD KNEW THIS WAS A PROBLEM, WHY DID THEY NOT RECALL THE VEHICLES HAVING THIS PROBLEM. WE COULD HAVE HAD A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, SHE FELL ASLEEP. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED TWO BLACK EYES AS A RESULT. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT WAS UNSURE IF THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000.
DRIVING HOME AT NIGHT IN MY 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS ALL OF A SUDDEN MY HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. THE ONLY WAY TO HAVE HEADLIGHTS WAS TO MANUALLY HOLD BACK THE HIGH BEAM MECHANISM ON THE STEERING COLUMN. EVENTUALLY THEY WILL COME BACK ON FOR A WHILE BUT CUT OFF AGAIN. THROUGH RESEARCH I FOUND OUT IT IS A LCM MODULE AND CAN BE FIXED FOR APPROXIMATELY $700.00. I THINK MERCURY SHOULD BEAR SOME OR ALL OF THE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS AS IT WILL EVENTUALLY CAUSE A VERY SEVERE ACCIDENT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS FAILED; THEY TURNED ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY. A MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE WAS THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO TOOK A COMPLAINT BUT OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 83,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 84,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. WHILE TRAVELING 50 MPH THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS HAD SUDDENLY SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS AND THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 44000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE
HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE. THIS WAS ON A DARK, DARK, 2 LANE COUNTRY ROAD WITH LITTLE OR NO SHOULDER. USING THE HIGH BEAM "HOLD" FUNCTION LIGHT WOULD COME ON HIGH BEAM. WORKING SWITCHES WOULD NOT BRING LIGHTS BACK ON. CHECKING LIGHTS LATER, FOUND LIGHTS WOULD GO OUT WITHIN 5 MINS - STAY OUT FOR LESS THAN 5 MINS AND THEN REPEAT. REPAIR WAS THE LCM MODULE WHICH DEALER CHARGED APROX. $700 TO FIX. VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY! TAIL LIGHTS DID STAY ON. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 149,000. UPDATED 11/16/10*BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT A COST OF $511.00. UPDATED 12/01/10

I NOTICE SMALL PAINT PEELING AT FIRST AROUND BACK WINDOW THEN SINCE HAVE SEVER PAINT ISSUES ON BOTH SIDES OF CAR NEAR REAR WINDOW GOING TO ROOF . ALSO OTHER POINTS ON CAR BODY PAINT PEELING NOT STAYING TO CAR SURFACE . THIS CAR HAS NOW ONLY 44000 AND HAS BEEN RARELY USED AND MOSTLY GARAGED . IT WAS A GIFT FROM MY PARENTS WHOM ARE NOW PASSED AWAY. I AM AT THIS POINT IN DISBELIEF BECAUSE I ONLY USE THIS CAR MOSTLY IN SUMMER . I AM DISABLED AND A US COAST GUARD VETERAN AND FEEL THIS IS AN ISSUE FROM IMPROPER PAINT APPLICATION OR METAL PREPARATION FORM DAY OF BUILD . RECALL NEEDED A.S.A.P. *TR
2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. HEADLIGHTS BEGAN GOING OFF BY THEMSELVES WHILE I WAS DRIVING AND WILL NOT COME ON AT MOST OF THE TIME. EVERY INDICATION I HAVE IS IT IS A FAULTY LIGHTING MODULE CONTROL. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE OR ME IS KILLED BECAUSE THE LIGHTS WILL SUDDENLY GO OFF ON A DARK WINDING LOAD. PLEASE CONSIDER A FORCED RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY. *TR
LETTER FROM CONGRESSMAN JONES ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT RE PROBLEMS WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON HER 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS (DOT/I#2010-2172) THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, THE HEADLIGHTS WENT COMPLETELY OUT. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. UPON INSPECTION, THE DEALER STATED THE ENTIRE LIGHTING MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $700.00. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC WHO PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC THAT LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULATOR AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACT AND BUT PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCURY MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH WITH THE BRAKES ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE, HE HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
THREE TIMES MY 2004 MERCURY MARQUIS HAS HAD SHOWN "PRIUS LIKE" PROBLEMS. ONCE IN DRY SUMMER , THEN TWICE IN WINTER IN THE PACIFIC NW.THE LAST TIME I WAS INTO THE INTERSECTION WHEN I SLAMMED ON MY PARKING BRAKE TO STOP THE CAR BUT THE MOTOR WAS STILL RACING.
I HAVE PAID OVER 500 BUCKS THE FIRST TIME FOR THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE. I HAD MY HEADLIGHTS CUT OFF ON ME WHILE I WAS DRIVING ONE DAY MORE THAN 3 YEARS AGO. I HAD TOMMY VAGHUN IN HOUSTON TX REPAIR IT. NOW I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. THIS IS A PART THAT IS VERY EXPENISVE TO REPAIR. I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THE PROBLEM IS THAT MAKES THIS HAPPEN. THIS IS A VEHICLE SAFETY ISSUE WITH NO DOUBT. THIS SHOULD BE A PROBLEM THAT FORD PAYS FOR THE REPAIRS. I CAN NOT DRIVE ANYWHERE AT NIGHT WITH OUT THE LIGHTS TURNING OFF. I HAVE TO HOLD THE FLASH TO PASS TO HAVE HEADLIGHTS. *JS
I AM CURRENTLY HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS WITH THE HEAD LIGHTS NOT COMING ON OR GOING OUT. ALL OTHER LIGHT STAY ON. TURNING THE LIGHT SWITCH ON / OFF AND IT WON'T COME ON. SAME SYMPTOMS IN AUTO OR MANUAL HEADLIGHT MODE. IF I STOP THE CAR IT WILL COME BACK ON. IT THEN MIGHT GO OFF AFTER A WHILE. I SEE OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM, THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS. DEALER TELLS ME IT IS A FAILURE OF THE LIGHT CONTROL MODULE (LCM). *TR
LOWER INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT BECAME CORRODED AT CENTER JOINT CAUSING STEERING TO BIND AND STICK WHEN STEERING WHEEL WAS RELEASED AS THE VEHICLE WAS EXITING A TURN. THIS REQUIRED THE DRIVER TO MAKE A CONCERTED EFFORT TO OVERCOME THE BINDING TO RETURN THE WHEELS TO A STRAIGHT POSITION. PART WAS REPLACED AT LOCAL DEALER. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM NOW ON A RECALL FOR 2005 TO 2011 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS' AND MY 2004 MARQUIS SHAFT HAS THE SAME PART NUMBER AS THE RECALLED PART ON THE 2005 TO 2011 MARQUIS'. CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND FORD WILL NOT REPLACE AND REFUND THE REPAIR MONEY ON MY VEHICLE. AS THIS IS THE SAME PART AND SAFETY ISSUE FOR THE 2005 TO 2011 AND ALSO AFFECTS OTHER MERCURY'S PRIOR TO 2004, FORD SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO EXTEND THIS RECALL FOR ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING CAUSING THE CONTACT TO TURN ON THE HIGH BEAMS TO SEE THE ROAD. THE FAILURE REOCCURRED ONE WEEK LATER WHILE TRAVELING AT 25 MPH WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS STOPPED FUNCTIONING WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO TURN THE LIGHTS ON AND OFF UNTIL THEY REMAINED ON. THE CONTACT WAS DISPLEASED SINCE SHE WORKS AT NIGHT AND WAS CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY RISK WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 800 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 1000.

THE VEHICLE REMAINED PARKED UNTIL DAY LIGHT DUE TO THE DARK ROADWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE HEADLIGHT CONTROL MODULE. THE HEADLIGHTS DO NOT STAY ON. THE LIGHTS MAY OR MAY NOT GO ON INITIALLY BUT CAN GO OUT AT ANY TIME MAKING DRIVING HAZARDOUS. THE ONLY WAY TO MAKE THEM LIGHT IS TO HOLD THE HANDLE IN THE "BRIGHT LIGHT" POSITION." I HAVE CONTACTED FORD WITH THE PROBLEM AND SEVERAL DEALERS TO NO AVAIL. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR APPROXIMATELY A YEAR. A RELATED PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER BLOWER STOPPED WORKING AND THE BRAKE LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME. JUDGING FROM THE COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ ON THE INTERNET, MANY PEOPLE HAVE ALL THREE PROBLEMS AT ONCE. *LN

THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT MODULE SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 124024.
FUEL PUMP AND CRANKSHAFT SENSOR BOTH WENT OUT ON VEHICLE AT SAME TIME. REPAIR OF CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WAS A $400 AND FUEL PUMP REPAIR WAS $740. DOORS DO NOT LOCK PROPERLY WHEN USING THE KEY REMOTE AND LIGHTS INSIDE THE VEHICLE ON CONTROLS FLICKER ON AND OFF. HEATING ELEMENT IN LEATHER SEAT ON PASSENGER SIDE HAS NEVER WORKED AND HAD TO REPLACE TIRES DUE TO UNUSUAL WEAR AND TEAR. COST TO REPLACE TIRES WAS $478. DRIVER SIDES DOOR WILL NOT SHUT ALL THE WAY DUE TO ALIGNMENT PROBLEMS AND THIS PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED. HAD TO REPLACE FUEL FILTER DUE TO LEAKING AND THIS COST $178. CAR HAS BECOME A MONEY PIT AND IT ONLY HAS 77,000 MILES ON IT. *TR

IMMEDIATELY, THE HIGHBEAM SWITCH WAS ENGAGED AND REQUIRED ASSISTANCE TO MANUALLY HOLD FOR THE HEADLIGHTS TO OPERATE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SPORADIC. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THE REPLACEMENT PART REQUIRED FOR THE HEADLIGHTS TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 158,000.
LIGHT CONTROLER SHUTS LIGHTS OFF AT NIGHT WHILE DRIVING. THE ONLY WAY TO GET LIGHTS TO DRIVE WITH IS TO HOLD DIRCETIONAL SIGNIAL HANDEL UP WITH ONE HAND AND DRIVE WITH THE OTHER. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY STOPPED WORKING. IN ADDITION, THE TURN SIGNALS AND BRIGHT HEADLIGHTS WOULD ONLY ILLUMINATE WHENEVER THE SWITCH WAS HELD. AS SOON AS THE SWITCH WAS RELEASED, THE LIGHTS WOULD DIM AGAIN. IN ORDER TO DRIVE AT NIGHT, THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO HOLD THE SWITCH AT ALL TIMES. THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED ON THREE OCCASIONS. USUALLY, THE HEADLIGHTS WORK NORMALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED OVERNIGHT. THE CONTACT SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT WITH THE DEALER, BUT THEY HAVE NOT YET INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. HE BELIEVES THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
VEHICLE HAS DEFECTIVE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE (LCM). HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN ON UNTIL LCM WAS KICKED. (LCM IS MOUNTED DIRECTLY ABOVE GAS PEDAL) NOW HEADLIGHTS ARE TURNING OFF WHILE DRIVING. (BUT COME BACK ON IF THE LCM IS KICKED. ) LOOKING AT EBAY THERE ARE MANY COMPANIES THAT OFFER A TOTAL UPGRADE OF YOUR EXISTING LCM. THEY INSTALL HEAVIER DUTY RELAYS. THE PART # ON MY LCM IS 4W7T-13C788-AA. SO IT IS EVIDENT THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH MANY LCM'S IN AND AROUND THAT MODEL YEAR.
WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT WITH THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH IN THE AUTOMATIC SELECTION THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT. THIS WAS ON JUNE 6, 2009, AT 11:00 P. M. THEN ON JUNE 27, 2009, AT 9:10 P. M. WHILE TURNING ONTO AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY THE HEADLIGHTS WENT OUT AGAIN. THIS TIME THE HEADLIGHT SELECTION SWITCH WAS IN THE MANUAL MODE. BOTH TIME THE HIGHBEAM SELECTION SWITCH WAS PULLED AND AFTER A 15 TO 20 MINUTE PERIOD THE HEADLIGHTS CAME BACK ON. *TR

HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED THE HEADLIGHT SENSOR AT THE COST OF $700. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS COMMON AND THEY KEEP THE SENSOR IN STOCK. A REPORT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
