This is a serious safety hazard that could result in death or injury. If I hadn’t escaped in time, I would have been killed. I am urging the NHTSA to investigate this defect and take immediate action to remove these vehicles from the road. Others may not be as lucky. This issue is life-threatening, especially because the fire started while the vehicle was in motion. These vehicles must be recalled and removed from use before more people are injured or killed.
I PURCHASED A 05 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS AND HAD ISSUES WITH THE HEADLIGHTS GOING OUT WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT. I SEEN THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE FOR MY VEHICLE BUT WHEN I CALLED THE FORD DEALER THEY SAID MY CAR WASN'T REGISTERED FOR A RECALL. THEY SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $135 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND LEAVE MY CAR FOR 24 HOURS. NO ONE WAS ABLE TO INFORM ME WHY MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL. IF I'M TELLING THEM THAT I'M HAVING A PROBLEM THAT THEY CLEARLY KNOW ABOUT WHY ARE THEY CHARGING ME TO FIX IT?
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE EXTERIOR LIGHTING, DOME LIGHT, AND ALL OTHER LIGHTING TURNED OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO INVER GROVE FORD LINCOLN (800-730-1765, LOCATED AT 4725 S ROBERT TRAIL, INVER GROVE HEIGHTS, MN 55077) TO BE DIAGNOSED, BUT THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT RIGHT AWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO CHANGED ALL THE FUSES, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT CALLED HASTINGS AUTOMOTIVE AT 651-437-4030 (LOCATED AT 3625 VERMILLION ST, HASTINGS, MN 55033) AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 130,000.
NEITHER THE AIR CONDITIONER NOR THE CRUISE HAS WORKED SINCE 46,000 MILES. IT NEEDS A NEW AIR COMPRESSOR WHICH WOULD COST OVER $1,000 AND THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS FOR THIS ISSUE PLASTERED ALL OVER THE INTERNET.

AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V861000 (EXTERIOR LIGHTING), THE TAIL LIGHTS FAILED TO OPERATE WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS WERE TURNED FROM "AUTOMATIC" TO "ON". THE HEADLIGHTS WORKED, BUT THE TAIL LIGHTS DID NOT UNLESS THE BRAKES WERE BEING APPLIED. LEON RILEY FORD IN BENTON, KY (99 MAIN ST.) WAS NOTIFIED AND CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER ABOUT PAYMENT FOR THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 109,000.
VEHICLE AT TIMES WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL,JUST STARTS TO ACCELERATE FOR NO REASON WHEN I STOP A LIGHT OR IN TRAFFIC.
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AS A USED VEHICLE WITH 42900 MILES. THE VEHICLE HAS NO HISTORY OF AN ACCIDENT ON THE CARFAX REPORT. THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND THE REPAIR ENDED UP COSTING OVER $1000 BECAUSE NEW SENSORS HAD TO BE INSTALLED FOR THE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLIES. THE AUTOMOBILE MECHANIC SAID THIS IS COMMON FOR 2005 FORD AUTOMOBILES. WHY HASN'T FORD ISSUED A RECALL TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM?
JAN 19, 2016, LETTER SAID I WOULD BE NOTIFIED AS SOON AS CORRECTIVE PART BECAME AVAILABLE. THIS HAS BEEN OVER 6 1/2 MONTHS. AS I'M PLANNING ON TAKING AN EXTENDED TRIP, MUCH OF IT AT NIGHT, IN THE NEAR FUTURE, I'M CONCERNED MY HEADLIGHTS WILL SUDDENLY GO OUT. PLEASE GOAD THEM TO GET ON THE BALL AND PROVIDE A REPAIR.

HEATER/AC DAMPER CONTROL ACTUATOR IS NOT WORKING.
AS I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT, MY VEHICLE'S LOW AND HIGH BEAMS (LIGHTS) SUDDENLY CUT OFF. UNEXPECTEDLY, THE ROAD I WAS TRAVELING BECAME VERY DARK BECAUSE I LIVE IN RURAL AREAS IN WEST VIRGINIA. UNFORTUNATELY, A SECOND LATER, MY CAR RAN OVER A SMALL BOULDER ON THE SIDE ON THE ROAD CAUSING A DAMAGE (SMALL CRACKS) AT THE BOTTOM RIGHT HAND SIDE OF MY BUMPER. NEVERTHELESS, I PUT THE EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON UNTIL I RETURNED HOME RIGHT AWAY. EARLIER THIS WEEK, I USED THE CAR AGAIN WITHOUT ANY LIGHTS ISSUES. HOWEVER A DAY LATER, THE ISSUE RETURNED AGAIN. THIS TIME I WAS TRAVELING IN THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MILES PER HOUR. ALL LOW/HIGH BEAM LIGHTS CUT OFF. MY ONLY SOLUTION WAS TO HOLD THE "FLASH TO PASS" LEVER TOWARDS ME, AND THE HIGH BEAM LIGHTS WOULD TURN ON. HOWEVER, IT IS EXTREMELY CUMBERSOME DRIVING THIS WAY. I'VE BEEN TOLD BY MANY MECHANICS THAT THE MAIN CULPRIT IS THE LIGHTING CONTROL MODULE (LCM) AND THIS SAFETY ISSUE HAS BECOME EXTREMELY COMMON IN GRAND MARQUIS ESPECIALLY 2005 MODELS. CONSUMERS AND PERHAPS THE GOVERNMENT MAY NEED TO FURTHER INTERVENE, SO FORD CAN DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS SAFETY/HAZARDOUS. IN MY CASE, MY BOTTOM BUMPER SUFFERED, BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE - IT COULD EASILY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AT ANY GIVEN TIME. CURRENTLY, I ONLY USE MY VEHICLE DURING THE DAYLIGHT HOURS. I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT REPAIRS CAN EXCEED $700 OR MORE AND IN SOME INSTANCES, THE ISSUE RETURNS WITHIN A FEW MONTHS AFTER REPLACING THIS PART. THIS ELECTRICAL ISSUE SHOULD PERHAPS BE FURTHER INVESTIGATED AS THE LCM COULD BE THE MAIN CULPRIT, BUT SOMETHING ELSE COULD ALSO BE TRIGGERING THE LCM TO FAIL. THANK YOU GREATLY! *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG ON A BACK COUNTRY ROAD WITH NO MOON OR VISIBLE LIGHTS OF ANY KIND AT 55MPH WHEN I LOST ALL HEADLIGHTS, LOW BEAM AND HIGH BEAM DID NOT WORK. *TR
DRIVING HOME ON HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH. HEARD A CLICK SOUND BUT DID NOT RELATE IT TO LIGHTS IMMEDIATELY. IT WAS JUST APPROACHING TWILIGHT. I GUESS WE DID NOT IMMEDIATELY NOTICE THE LIGHTS AS THERE WAS STILL SOME DAYLIGHT. NEXT NIGHT DRIVING IN TOWN AFTER DARK AND THE LIGHTS WENT OUT, JUST SUDDEN DARKNESS. WE WERE ON BUSINESS HWY 23 GOING OVER THE OVERPASS IN TOWN AND WERE ABLE TO GET OFF ON A SIDE STREET AND LIMP HOME HOPING THAT WE WOULD NOT GET STOPPED AND CITED. THIS IS MY VEHICLE THAT I USE FOR MY WORK. I NOW HAVE TO SCHEDULE MY WORK AROUND DAYLIGHT HOURS AS WE CAN NOT FIND THE LIGHT MODULE TO REPLACE MINE. THIS IS A HORRIBLE DANGER TO MYSELF, MY FAMILY AND OTHER DRIVERS AS WELL. WE HAVE CALLED MULTIPLE PLACES TO FIND THE MODULE AND THEY ALL SAY THEY CAN NOT GET THEM. THE MOST FRIGHTENING OF ALL, WE HAVE NEVER BEEN SENT A RECALL NOTICE ON THIS. WE ARE GOING TO TRY A GARAGE THAT SERVICES ALL THE STATE PATROL AND POLICE CARS IN THIS PART OF WISCONSIN. THERE ARE STILL SOME OF THE MERCURY'S OUT THERE IN SERVICE. I SUSPECT THEY WILL SURELY SUPPLY THEM WITH THE MODULES. HOPE TO FIND ONE THERE SO I CAN RESUME NORMAL WORK HOURS AND NOT HAVE TO SCHEDULE DAYLIGHT ONLY WORK MEETINGS. I HAVE LOVED THIS CAR FOR 8 YEARS. LIGHT HAVE REGULARLY GONE OFF SINCE THAT TIME. WHAT IS A REASONABLE TIME TO EXPECT THAT THEY WOULD HAVE CORRECT PARTS TO REPLACE AS NEITHER DEALER HAD ANY REPORT AS TO WHEN PART MIGHT COME. FORD ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM 14NO1 IN THE SPRING OF 2104 FOR JUST THIS PART FOR 15 YEARS OR 250,000 MILES. NO REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE AVAILABLE IN THE USA. THE DEALER SAYS THEY HAVE A WAITING LIST THAT GOES BACK SIX MONTHS. HAVE TALKED TO REGIONAL MANAGERS IN DEARBORN, MICH. ALL SAY THEY HAVE NO IDEA OF A SHIPPING DATE, MUCH LESS A DELIVERY DATE, FROM SUPPLIER. WON'T INDICATE HOW MANY VEHICLES ARE EFFECTED, BUT HAS TO BE MANY DUE TO EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM. THEIR SOLUTION IS IF THE LIGHTS DON'T COME ON OR GO OUT WHILE DRIVING IS TO HIT UNDER THE DASH TO THE RIGHT OF THE STEERING COLUMN AND THEY SHOULD COME ON. THIS MEANS THERE ARE CARS ON THE ROAD THAT PEOPLE ARE DRIVING DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS KNOWING THAT THEIR CARS HEADLIGHTS ARE NOT WORKING CORRECTLY, BUT NO PARTS AVAILABLE FROM FORD TO HONOR WARRANTY. THIS MEANS THAT CARS ARE BEING USED THAT MAY NOT BE LEGAL TO DRIVE IN THE RAIN (MOST STATES HAVE HEADLIGHT ON IF RAINING LAW) AND ALSO WILL NOT PASS STATE INSPECTION.
