WHILE AT HIGHWAY SPEED USING CRUISE CONTROL ON A SLIGHT UPGRADE, ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND RETURNED TO IDLE AND WRENCH WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. AFTER STOPPING, IT WAS NOTED THAT ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING AT IDLE BUT THERE WAS NO THROTTLE CONTROL. AFTER IGNITION WAS SHUT OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES, VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND THROTTLE CONTROL WAS FOUND TO BE NORMAL. DEALER DIAGNOSED LIKELY PROBLEM AS THROTTLE BODY, WHICH WOULD BE COVERED UNDER DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY BUT FORD SUBSEQUENTLY ADVISED IT WAS NOT COVERED. FURTHER, OWNER WAS ADVISED PART WAS ON INDEFINITE NATION-WIDE BACK-ORDER WITH NO KNOWN AVAILABILITY DATE BUT THAT VEHICLE WAS DRIVABLE IN THE MEANTIME WITH THE RISK THAT PROBLEM COULD RECUR WITH INCREASING FREQUENCY. *TR
LEAVING WORK FOR THE DAY LAST FRIDAY, JUNE 7, 2013 MY MERCURY MILAN WENT INTO LIMP MODE, THE WRENCH WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON MY DASH AND TODAY I HAD TO HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY REPLACED. JUST LAST WEEK MY HUSBAND HAD TO HAVE THE SAME PART REPLACED IN HIS 2010 FORD FOCUS SES. SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH ALL THE 2010 FORD CARS. HE HAD TO PAY $800 FOR HIS. LUCKILY I PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON MINE AND ONLY HAVE TO PAY THE $100 DEDUCTIBLE. SURE WOULD LIKE TO GET THIS $900 REFUNDED WHEN YOU RECALL ALL THE 2010 FORDS. THANK YOU! *TR
WHILE COMMUTING TO WORK ON THE HIGHWAY, THE ENGINE STARTED BUCKING AND HESITATING, THEN WENT INTO AN IDLE. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER ON THE SHOULDER, SHUT THE ENGINE OFF FOR ABOUT 20 SECONDS. WHEN I RESTARTED IT, IT TOOK LONGER TO ACTUALLY START. I DROVE FOR ANOTHER 5 MINUTES AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME I PULLED OVER, TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND WAITED A COUPLE MINUTES BEFORE RESTARTING. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE DEALER ON SIDE ROADS AT NO MORE THAN 35 MPH WITHOUT ANOTHER INCIDENT. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND IT IS ON BACKORDER UNTIL MID-JULY - 5 WEEKS AWAY! FURTHERMORE, SINCE IT IS NOT ON RECALL, THEY WON'T PAY FOR A LOANER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MILAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED AND JERKED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE MAINTENANCE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000. *TR
THE ENGINE STALLS UNPREDICTABLY. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. AFTER A SHORT PERIOD, THE ENGINE CAN BE STARTED AND THE CAR DRIVEN WITHOUT RECURRANCE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON. LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSTICS INDICATE PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN LEAVING ME STRANDED. DIDN'T WANT TO TAKE ANY CHANCES SO HAD IT TOWED TO FORD GARAGE FOR REPAIR. THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT WOULD BE 200.00 FOR PART PLUS LABOR AND DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE . THIS IS A 2010 COME ON FORD !!! AS A LONGTIME FORD OWNER I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED. THIS WAS THE SECOND OCCURRENCE ,THE FIRST TIME IT STARTED UP AND I WAS ABLE TO GO ON MY WAY. *TR
ON JUNE 1 THE VEHICLE GOT STUCK AT 4 RPM'S WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AND WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS PRESSED, THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND. A WEEK LATER THE VEHICLE AGAIN DID NOT ACCELERATE WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS PRESSED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ENTER A HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE SPUTTERED AND STALLED OUT. VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON WITH NO OTHER PROBLEMS. ON JUNE 18 THE VEHICLE SPUTTERED & STALLED LEAVING A PARKING LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED 4 TIMES, BUT THIS TIME THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND WHEN ACCELERATOR WAS PRESSED. EACH TIME ACCELERATOR WAS PRESSED IT SPUTTERED AND DIED. VEHICLE WAS TOWED FROM THE SCENE AND PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. *TR
CAR GOING INTO "LIMP MODE" FOR NO APPARENT REASON. FEELS AS IF IT HAS STALLED. HAS HAPPENED ON HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH. CAR GOES "LIMP" NO POWER TO MOVE OFF HIGHWAY. HAS ALSO OCCURRED WHILE MAKING LEFT TURN IN FRONT OF TRAFFIC. CAR ALL BUT STALLS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR WITH THREE CHILDREN IN THE BACKSEAT AT 65 MILES PER HOUR.WHEN THE CAR GOES INTO LIMP MODE WHILE CROSSING A HIGHWAY WITH ON COMING TRAFFIC. THIS COULD OF KILLED MY KIDS AND MYSELF AND POSSIBLY SOMEONE ELSE. THIS IS THE WORST CAR I HAVE EVER BOUGHT. VERY UPSET *TR
BOTH RIGHT AND NOW LEFT BRAKE LIGHTS DEVELOPED A CONDITION WHERE THEY TURN ON IN THEIR BRIGHT, BRAKING STATE WHENEVER THE HEAD-LIGHTS ARE ON. THE DEALER REPLACED THE RIGHT LIGHT, AT MY EXPENSE A YEAR AGO. NOW, I HAVE TO REPLACE THE LEFT LIGHT. THESE REPAIRS ARE $400 EACH. AND THERE IS NO INDICATION TO THE DRIVER THAT THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY SYSTEM ISN'T FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. I WAS NOTIFIED BY OTHER DRIVERS OF THE PROBLEM. FORD SHOULD RECALL AND INSPECT THESE VEHICLES. I'VE BEEN TRYING TO GET A REPLACEMENT AIRBAG FOR MY FORD/MERCURY FOR YEARS AND YEARS. WROTE THEM SEVERAL TIMES (HAVE LETTERS) AND SPOKE TO MY DEALERSHIP GOSCH FORD IN HEMET, CA. (HAVE NAMES AND DATES) WHICH THEY CONTINUE TO BLAME IT ON FORD MOTOR CO. ALL TO NO AVAIL. FORD CONTINUES TO SEND ME SAFETY RECALL LETTERS AND PROMISES OF NEXT MONTH, NEXT QUARTER, NEXT THIS AND THAT. THEY NEVER PRODUCE MY/THE AIRBAG/S. AND, WHEN FORD CAME UP WITH THIS ' RENT A CAR' THERE WAS NEVER ONE AVAILABLE: ENTERPRISE WAS ALWAYS OUT OF CARS. PLUS THE FACT, IT WOULD HAVE COST ME MONEY TO RENT ONE AT SOME OTHER RENTAL AGENCY, PAY FOR MILEAGE ON THESE RENTALS, OR GO TO ANOTHER CITY 45 MINUTES AWAY FOR ONE, ETC. NOT A GOOD DEAL AT ALL. IT HAS BEEN VERY FRUSTRATING, DISCOURAGING, AND THEY ARE, FRANKLY IN MY VIEW, NOT DEALING IN GOOD FAITH. THE COMMENTATORS ON TV, CONTINUE TO SAY, "TAKATA AIRBAGS MAIM AND KILLING PEOPLE - GET YOUR'S REPLACED" NOW! WE ARE TRYING TO, BUT NONE ARE AVAILABLE AT LEAST FROM FORD. WHAT ARE WE TO DO? I AM GLAD THAT A LAW SUIT HAS BEEN FILED. MAYBE WE'LL GET SOME ACTION. IF TAKATA WON'T REPLACE THEIR AIRBAGS... I WOULD THINK SOMEONE ELSE I.E. 'THE MOTOR COMPANIES' WOULD TAKE THAT UP AND MAKE THEIR OWN TO SAVE THE LIVES AND BUILD GOOD WILL AMONG THEIR CUSTOMERS. MAYBE WE WOULD THEN BUY MORE AMERICAN PARTS AND THEIR BUILT HERE CARS. I'M JUST GLAD MY ELDERLY FATHER AND GRANDCHILDREN HAVE NOT BEEN HARMED YET. IT'S HARD TO PUT 4 TO 5 PEOPLE IN THE CAR WITHOUT USING THE PASSENGER SEAT. WE NEED HELP HERE AND COMPENSATION FOR ALL THE TROUBLE, AGGRAVATION AND PROMISES NOT KEPT...ALONG WITH THESE DESTRUCTIVE AIRBAGS THAT THEY PUT IN OUR CARS AND HAVE REFUSE TO REPLACE ALL THESE YEARS KNOWING FULL WELL IN THE BEGINNING THAT THEY WERE DEFECTIVE. THEY'VE HAD PLENTY OF TIME TO CORRECT THIS MATTER. PUTTER YOUR HEAD IN THE SAND- NOW CRYING FOWL... REALLY. GO GET THEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MILAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, WHO STATED THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
THE CAR BEHAVES AS IF IT WAS SUDDENLY PUT INTO NEUTRAL. WHEN YOU HIT THE GAS THE ENGINE REVS, BUT THE TRANSMISSION DOES NOT ENGAGE. THE WRENCH AND ENGINE LIGHTS COME ON, AND THE CAR WILL SOMETIMES SPUTTER LIKE IT IS GOING TO SHUT OFF COMPLETELY. THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE CAR TO FUNCTION NORMALLY IS TO STOP THE CAR AND TURN IT OFF AND BACK ON. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN ON MAJOR HIGHWAYS AND OTHER BUSY ROADS. THE PROBLEM IS UNPREDICTABLE. A MECHANIC HAS DETERMINED THIS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT THE PART IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. MY CAR IS UN-DRIVE-ABLE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE HAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND THE WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATES ON THE DASH. THE VEHICLE SLOWS TO 5/10 MPH. IF YOU SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART IT, EVERYTHING IS FINE. THESE OCCUPANCIES HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE A DAY SOMETIMES MORE. WHEN YOU ARE IN THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR SUDDENLY DROPS DOWN TO 10 MPH, YOU ARE LUCKY YOU DON'T GET HIT. THE DIAGNOSED REPAIR WAS A NEW THROTTLE BODY. THIS PART IS NOT COVERED BY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR 3 WEEKS WAITING FOR THE PART FROM FORD. IT IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. DOES SOMEONE HAVE TO BE RUN OVER AND KILLED BEFORE THIS BECOMES A SAFETY ISSUE? *TR
APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO, WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED ON A THREE LANE INTERSTATE, MY CAR STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO STEER IT OFF TO THE SHOULDER AND TURN OFF THE CAR. IT THEN RESTARTED AND THERE HAS BEEN NO PROBLEM SINCE, UNTIL YESTERDAY. DRIVING AT APPROX. 45 MPH, THE CAR AGAIN STALLED. AGAIN, I MANAGED TO GET THE VEHICLE OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED IT OFF AND THEN BACK ON. I WAS CLOSE TO HOME SO DECIDED TO TRY AND LIMP HOME. I DID EVENTUALLY MAKE IT HOME BUT WITH NUMEROUS STALLS, SLOWING OF TRAFFIC AND EVEN THROUGH AN INTERSECTION NEAR A BUSY SCHOOL AT BUS TIME. I STOPPED TRAFFIC NUMEROUS TIMES AND WAS NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE BEYOND 10-15MPH. THIS MORNING, I AM TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE PROBLEM IS THE THROTTLE BODY. APPARENTLY, THERE ARE NO REPLACEMENT PARTS AVAILABLE SINCE MANY OTHER VEHICLES ARE ALSO IN NEED OF THIS PART. I AM HOME FROM WORK TODAY, ARRANGING FOR RENTAL OR COURTESY CARS, AND I AM TOLD IT WILL BE APPROXIMATELY $500-600 TO REPAIR! I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR FOR ONLY 1-1/2 YEARS. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING AT NORMAL FREEWAY SPEED AND I HAD A JOLTING SENSATION, LIKE A BAD TRANSMISSION SHIFT, FOLLOWED BY A LOSS OF ANY ACCELERATION OR RESPONSE FROM THE ACCELERATOR. THE ENGINE DIDN'T STALL, BUT IT SLOWED DOWN TO AN IDLE. IT WAS DANGEROUS WITH THE BUSY TRAFFIC AND NO SPEED CONTROL. I COASTED ONTO THE SHOULDER, STOPPED AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES I STARTED IT UP AND IT DROVE NORMALLY FOR THE REST OF THE 70 MILES OF OUR TRIP. THE DIAGNOSTIC REPORT AT THE FORD DEALER SHOWED A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM. NO PARTS ARE AVAILABLE, FORD HAS A NATIONAL BACK ORDER ON THE PART, WHICH SHOWS THE EXTENT OF THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER'S ONLY SOLUTION WAS THAT I SHOULD TRY TO RETURN HOME IN THE CAR (140 MILES) AND GO TO MY LOCAL DEALER, WHICH I DID. MY LOCAL DEALER DID A VERY GOOD JOB OF GETTING A PART QUICKLY AND GETTING US BACK ON THE ROAD. BECAUSE OF THE DANGER INVOLVED WHEN THIS PART FLAW HAPPENS, THIS SHOULD CONSIDERED FOR A RECALL AND AN ALERT TO OWNERS OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF 70MPH AN HEADING SOUTH ON I69 IN MY 2010 MERCURY MILAN 2.5L PREMIER, MY VEHICLE JERKED AND STARTED SHAKING WITH MY RPM'S JUMPING FROM 800 TO 1100. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON AND SO DID THE WRENCH LIGHT. I TURNED ON MY HAZARDS AND MADE MY WAY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT AND THE WARNING LIGHTS TURNED OFF. I STARTED ON THE ROAD AGAIN AND AT ABOUT 45 MPH IT DID THE SAME THING. I GOT OFF AT THE NEXT EXIT AND WENT TO AUTOZONE TO GET THE CODE PULLED. IT WAS CODE P2111, THROTTLE CIRCUIT IN THE OPEN POSITION. I DID A GOOGLE SEARCH AND FOUND OUT THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THE MERCURY MARINER, FORD FOCUS, AND FORD ESCAPE WITH THE SAME ENGINE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY LITERALLY LAUGHED AT ME AND INFORMED ME THAT THE THROTTLE BODY IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER AND THERE ARE CURRENTLY 7,000 OF THESE ORDERS AWAITING TO BE FILLED. THE DEALERSHIP ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THE MANUFACTURER OF THE THROTTLE BODY AND FORD ARE CURRENTLY TRYING TO GIVE AN UPDATED PART NUMBER WHICH MEANS THAT THEY ARE MAKING A NEW PART TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. THIS LEAVES ME WITH A THREE YEAR OLD CAR COMPLETELY USELESS SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL AS ANY CAR THAT JUST SHUTS OFF WHILE YOU ARE ON THE FREEWAY IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IF YOU DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO IN THAT SITUATION. *TR
THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED BUT IT HAPPENED TWICE IN THE SAME DAY. WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE WE EXPERIENCED THE "LIMP HOME MODE" PROBLEM. I CAN SEE THIS HAS BEEN WELL DOCUMENTED AND THE INVESTIGATIONS ARE ONGOING. HERE'S AN ADDITIONAL PROBLEM WITH THIS EVENT, WE NEVER GOT AN INDICATOR LIGHT OF ANY KIND ON THE DASH. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE AND THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO RETRIEVE ANY ERRORS AT ALL OFF THE COMPUTER AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM. NEEDLESS TO SAY THEY WERE UNABLE TO TAKE ANY CORRECTIVE ACTION. I POSE THIS QUESTION, WHY WHEN THE VEHICLE OBVIOUSLY DETECTED A PROBLEM TO GO INTO "LIMP HOME" MODE WOULD IT NOT RECORD THE ERROR IN THE COMPUTER? WHY WOULD THE DEALERSHIP BE UNABLE TO SEE IT? *TR
RETURNING FROM VACATION TO BLACK HILLS, SD GOING EAST ON I-90 AT 75 MPH. ENGINE INSTANTLY LOST POWER AND I PULLED OFF ON HIGHWAY SHOULDER. ENGINE DID NOT SHUT OFF BUT "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR STARTED BUCKING. VEHICLE WAS TRANSPORTED TO FORD DEALER IN PIERRE, SD. DUE TO HOLIDAY THEY DID NOT LOOK AT IT UNTIL 5/28/13. PROBLEM WAS DETERMINED TO BE FAILED THROTTLE BODY. FORTUNATELY IT WAS DAYTIME AND THRU OPEN COUNTRY AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF SAFELY. FORD NEEDS TO FIND OUT WHAT CAUSES THE FAILURE AND MAKE IT RIGHT. THERE IS A HIGH RISK POTENTIAL. IMAGINE IF THIS OCCURRED AT NIGHT OR IF I WAS IN A MIDDLE LANE OF A MULTIPLE LANE HIGHWAY GOING THRU AN URBAN AREA WITH HIGH SPEED BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC, I SUSPECT THAT WE WOULD HAVE BEEN REAR ENDED WITH POTENTIAL SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES AS A RESULT OF THE INSTANT DECELERATION. SITTING BY THE SIDE OF I-90 WITH CARS, SEMI'S ETC. WHIZZING BY AT 75-80 MPH WAS RISKY ENOUGH. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON A COUNTRY ROAD AT 50 MPH ON MON. MAY 27TH, THE CAR SEEMED TO STALL, THE GAS PEDAL DIDN'T WORK & WE HAD TO PULL OVER ASAP. AFTER STOPPING & RESTARTING THE CAR, WE WERE ABLE TO PROCEED HOME. AT THE TIME, I THOUGHT IT WAS A FLUKE. THEN ON MAY 30TH IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON MY STREET GOING AROUND 30 MPH, SO I CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID I COULD COME IN THE NEXT DAY. LATER THAT SAME DAY, I WAS IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON RT 22(BUSY HIGHWAY) & IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS GOING 60 IN THE LEFT LANE, THIS WAS VERY SCARY AS IT WAS DIFFICULT TO GET OVER TO THE SHOULDER WITH SO MUCH TRAFFIC. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE FORD DEALER ON FRIDAY MAY 31ST & THEY SAID THERE WERE NO ALERTS ON THE CAR, THAT THEY WOULD DO A SOFTWARE UPGRADE THAT WOULD HOPEFULLY FIX THE ISSUE. THE RECEIPT THEY GAVE ME LISTED THAT A THROTTLE BODY WAS NEEDED, & IT WAS ON BACK ORDER. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO MINIMIZE USING THE CAR, BUT ON JUNE 15TH I HAD TO GO TO MY NIECE AND NEPHEW'S DANCE RECITAL IN SOUTH NJ. WHILE DRIVING HOME ON 295 (MAJOR HIGHWAY) GOING AROUND 65 THE CAR DIED AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO PROCEED AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR, BUT DIDN'T MAKE IT HOME AGAIN WITHOUT IT HAPPENING ANOTHER TIME. I WAS MAKING A LEFT TURN AT AN INTERSECTION LIGHT AND THE ENGINE DIED. THANK GOD IT WASN'T A WIDER INTERSECTION OR I WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO COAST THROUGH. AT THIS POINT THIS CAR IS UNUSABLE AND IS A DEATH TRAP WAITING TO HAPPEN. I CALLED ANOTHER DEALER, AND THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER THERE AS WELL. THIS IS CLEARLY A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODIES IN THE 2010 MILAN THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED, I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW HOW THIS PROBLEM WILL BE RECTIFIED. THE PROOF IS IN THE FACT THAT THEY CANNOT MAKE THE PART FAST ENOUGH TO FIX THE BROKEN CARS. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED I WAS DOING 60 MPH ON THE FREEWAY AN MY CAR LOST POWER AN WOULD NOT ACCELERATE BUT I COULD STILL TURN AN BRAKE BUT THE ENGINE WAS STALLING AN SHAKING AN THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ONE. I COASTED OFF THE ROAD SHUT THE CAR OFF AN RESTARTED IT AFTER A FEW MINUTES AN THE ENGINE TURNED OVER FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS BEFORE STARTING UP AN IT DROVE FINE. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP AN THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THEY COULDN'T GET THE FAULT TO HAPPEN SO I TOOK MY CAR. OVER THE LAST FEW MONTH IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIME BUT NOW IT WILL STALL OUT AN THE HAVE THE WRENCH LIGHT COME ONE AGAIN AN WHEN I RESTART MY CAR IT WILL GO ABOUT 50 FEET AN HAPPEN AGAIN ABOUT 7 TIMES IN A ROW. VEHICLE RANDOMLY SPUTTERS THEN THE THROTTLE COMPLETELY STOPS WORKING (DANGEROUS CONDITION AT SPEED) AND I HAVE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHILE IT IS CONSTANTLY SPUTTERING AND THEN HAVE TO PUT IT IN PARK, TURN OFF THE IGNITION AND THEN TURN IT BACK ON WHICH APPEARS TO RESET IT. TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP OVER A MONTH AGO AND THEY ARE STILL WAITING FOR THE PART (ON BACK ORDER). CALLED FORD AND THEY FINALLY FILED A CASE NUMBER, BUT STILL COULD NOT GIVE ME A DATE FOR WHEN THE PART WILL BE AVAILABLE. WHILE IN THE PASSING LANE ON INTERSTATE 81, THE THROTTLE BODY CAUSED MY VEHICLE TO ENTER "LIMP MODE". THE ENGINE RPM IMMEDIATELY REDUCED TO IDLE AND I COASTED FROM THE PASSING LANE TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO IDLE SO I DROVE TO THE FIRST AVAILABLE EXIT, ENTERED A SERVICE STATION AND SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN. I CALLED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACEMENT WOULD NOT BE COVERED SINCE THE VEHICLE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. *TR
ON OR ABOUT 5/20/2013 I NOTICED A TAILLIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT FAILURE ON THE RIGHT REAR TAILLIGHT ASSEMBLY. I LOOKED IN THE HANDBOOK FOR A BULB NUMBER AND IT WAS NOTED THAT IT MUST BE REPLACED BY THE DEALER. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THIS WAS AN LED ASSEMBLY AND THE WHOLE TAILLIGHT WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS FURTHER INFORMED THAT THE LED'S WERE NOT THE PROBLEM , BUT THE BALLAST IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM THAT WAS CAUSING THE FAILURE. I WAS THEN TOLD THAT THE REPLACEMENT WAS $500.00. LED'S ARE SUPPOSED TO LAST FOR THOUSANDS OF HOURS, UNFORTUNATELY, JUDGING FROM THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET, MY SITUATION IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. IT IS RIDICULOUS TO HAVE TO PAY OVER $500 TO FIX A FAULTY BRAKE/TAILLIGHT. IT THEN BECOMES A SAFETY HAZARD AS PEOPLE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO AFFORD SUCH AN EXPENSIVE FIX FOR WHAT WOULD OTHERWISE BE A $3-4 BULB. THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR A POOR DESIGN AND A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. WHILE DRIVING MY 2010 MILAN AT THE SPEED OF 55 MPH, THE CAR SHOOK SLIGHTLY AND THE WRENCH LIGHT APPEARED. THE CAR BEGAN TO LOSE POWER - I WAS ABLE TO STEER WITH NO PROBLEM. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. IT HAPPENED SEVEN MORE TIMES BEFORE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. EACH TIME WHEN I TRIED TO START MY CAR, IT KEPT TURNING OVER BEFORE IT WOULD START. PARTS TOOK ABOUT 2 WEEKS TO GET AND CAR WAS REPAIRED AND I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR 2 WEEKS WITH NO ISSUE. I DO UNDERSTAND THAT THE CAR HAS 80000 MILES ON IT BUT I SEEN ON THE INTERNET WHERE THE CIRCUIT BOARD AND THIS THROTTLE BODY HAD BEEN A ON GOING COMPLAINT. *TR

SCHEDULED SERVICE AT WORLD FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED JUST FOUR MONTHS PRIOR. I WAS TOLD THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED REPLACING "THIS IS VERY COMMON, WE REPLACE THEM ALL THE TIME" HE SAID. I PURCHASED A POWERTRAIN EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH THE CAR THAT STATES IT COVERS THE "THROTTLE VALVE" AMONG ITS COVERED PARTS BUT THE SERVICE MAN FIRST SAYS THAT'S DIFFERENT THAN THE "THROTTLE BODY" (MY UNDERSTANDING IS THE THROTTLE VALVE IS THE PLATE INSIDE THE THROTTLE BODY THAT OPENS/CLOSES CONTROLLING AIRFLOW TO THE MANIFOLD, IT THAT IS "STUCK OPEN", IT SHOULD BE COVERED). HE THEN SAYS HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW WHAT A "THROTTLE VALUE" IS AND SAYS IT WILL COST APPROX $350 TO REPAIR. IT ACTUALLY MADE IT THERE AND THE DIAGNOSTIC DONE BY THE DEALER CAME UP WITH NO REPAIR CODES FOR THE VEHICLE, SUBSEQUENTLY, I PICKED IT UP AND DROVE IT HOME AT THE END OF THE DAY. ON TUESDAY, IT STARTED UP AND ONE MILE FROM THE HOUSE, IT CLUNKED OUT AGAIN AND LOST POWER. AGAIN I CALLED AAA TO TOW ME TO THE DEALER. I GUESS BECAUSE IT WAS A RECENT OCCURRENCE, THE CODE SHOWED UP IN THE DIAGNOSTIC SO THEY CLAIM IT IS FIXED BY REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. IT HAS DRIVEN WELL FOR ONE DAY AND I HOPE IT CONTINUES. IS THIS BASIS FOR A RECALL. PLEASE ADVISE. *TR

DIAGNOSIS SAYS IT IS A FAULTY LED BRAKE LIGHT ASSEMBLY, WHICH WOULD IMPLY A BAD CIRCUIT BOARD. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. I CONTACTED FORD ABOUT IT AND THEY DIRECTED ME TO A DEALER SAYING THEY, (FORD) WOULD PROBABLY PAY FOR THE REPAIR. AFTER I CONTACTED THE DEALER, FORD CHANGED THEIR MIND AND SAID THAT SINCE I DIDN'T BUY THE CAR NEW, THEY DIDN'T CONSIDER ME A "LOYAL'" FORD CUSTOMER AND WILL NOT COVER ANY OF THE COST. THIS HAPPENED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS IN AN INTERSECTION, ON AN OFF RAMP, ON A BUSY CITY STREET. THE DEALERSHIP INITIALLY SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE CAUSE WAS AND THAT I SHOULD CONTINUE DRIVING AND SEE IF IT HAPPENED AGAIN. ON JULY 7TH, DURING A SINGLE DRIVE HOME, THE CAR SHUT DOWN EVERY COUPLE OF MINUTES AND REQUIRED MY FAMILY & I PULL OVER. WE WERE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD MANY TIMES ON A BUSY HIGHWAY, WINDY BACK ROADS--VERY SCARY NOT KNOWING WHEN THE CAR WOULD FAIL, HOW FAST CARS BEHIND US WERE TRAVELING, WHETHER OR NOT CARS WOULD SEE US COMING AROUND A TURN... NOW THEY TELL ME THE PART NEEDED IS ON BACK ORDER BECAUSE OF THE NUMBER OF SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHEN THE PART WILL BE IN. THE CAR IS WAY TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE AT THIS POINT SO I AM FORCED TO PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR UNTIL THE PART COMES IN. HOPING FOR A RECALL! *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN A STRAIGHT STRETCH OF ROAD AT A STEADY 45 MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND THE ENGINE DROPPED TO IDLE. ACCELERATOR DID NOT HAVE ANY EFFECT ON ENGINE RPM. COASTED TO SIDE OF ROAD AND STOPPED. PROCEEDED TO TURN OFF VEHICLE AND RESTART, ACCELERATOR RESPONSE RETURNED TO NORMAL. *TR
ON APRIL 19, 2013, I HAD ONE INCIDENT WHERE MY CAR LOST POWER WITH NO WARNING. I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. I SUDDENLY REALIZED I HAD NO POWER AND NOTICED THAT THE WRENCH LIGHT AND OTHER LIGHTS CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO STEER THE CAR OFF THE ROAD. I HAD TO TURN IT OFF AND THEN RESTART IT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER SERVICE DEPT BUT THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. IT SEEMED TO RUN ROUGHER FOR THE NEXT MONTH BUT DIDN'T STALL AGAIN UNTIL MAY 16. AT THAT TIME I WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. ON MAY 17 IT STALLED TWO TIMES WHILE GOING 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. ON MAY 19 IT STALLED ONE TIME WHILE GOING 60 MPH SO I PARKED THE CAR FOR THE WEEKEND. I CALLED THE DEALER AND HAD TO DRIVE OVER AN HOUR TO THE DEALER. IT STALLED THREE TIMES ON THE WAY TO THE DEALER. I DROVE WITH MY FLASHERS ON THE ENTIRE TIME BECAUSE I WAS TERRIFIED THAT I WAS GOING TO BE IN AN ACCIDENT OR WORSE. MY DEALER HAS DETERMINED THAT IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY. MY CAR HAS BEEN STUCK IN THE SHOP SINCE MAY 20 WAITING FOR THE PART THAT IS ON NATIONWIDE INDEFINITE BACK ORDER AND THERE IS NO FIX DATE IN SIGHT. MY CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE AND I AM JUST THANKFUL THAT I HAVEN'T HAD AN ACCIDENT OR BEEN KILLED BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE LOST CONFIDENCE IN MY CAR WHICH I WAS SO HAPPY WITH. I ALSO AM PAYING ON A CAR THAT I CAN'T EVEN DRIVE. *TR
IN APRIL OF 2013 I LEFT WORK AND GOT UP TO 45 MPH WHEN THE CAR JERKED AND THEN LOST ALL POWER. I FLOORED THE GAS AND THE ENGINE DID NOT RESPOND. WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND NOTICED A WRENCH ICON LIGHT. I STOPPED THE CAR AND PUT IT IN PARK THEN GAVE IT SOME GAS WITH NO RESPONSE AT ALL. THE CAR WAS JUST BARELY IDLING. I SHUT IT OFF AND RESTARTED IT, TOOK A FEW SECONDS LONGER THAN USUAL FOR IT TO START BUT IT SEEMED TO RUN FINE AFTER THAT AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS NOW OFF. CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IF IT'S RUNNING OK TO JUST KEEP AN EYE ON IT, IT MIGHT NOT REPEAT. I NOTICED THE CAR WOULD OCCASIONALLY START JERKING LIKE A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER ON MAY 28, 2013 AND THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. THEY SAID IT SOUNDED LIKE A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE BUT THEY HAD NONE IN STOCK AND WERE BACK-ORDER. ON JUNE 7TH I WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR AGAIN LOST ALL POWER, PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED. CAR STARTED BUT WAS JERKING A LOT MORE. NEXT DAY IT LOST POWER AGAIN AS I PULLED AWAY FROM A STOP LIGHT. PULLED OVER AGAIN, RESTARTED, PUT IN GEAR AND THE THROTTLE DID NOT RESPOND. I WENT THROUGH THIS FOR 6 RESTARTS UNTIL THE THROTTLE WOULD RESPOND. THIS TIME THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND REMAINED ON UNTIL IT WENT TO THE DEALER TODAY. THE DEALER PUT MY NAME ON A WAIT LIST FOR A NEW THROTTLE BODY AND SAID IT WOULD BE 3-6 WEEKS UNTIL IT CAME IN. I AM NOW STUCK WITH A CAR I'M PAYING ON BUT CAN NOT DRIVE FOR 3-6 WEEKS. I'M LUCKY THIS DIDN'T HAPPEN ON A HIGHWAY OR GOING THROUGH A BUSY INTERSECTION. FORD SHOULD BE FORCED TO RECALL THESE. *TR
DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED LIMIT WITH CRUISE ON THERE WAS A LOSS OF CRUISE CONTROL, NO THROTTLE RESPONSE AND THE "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY. ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGHLY, TURNED IT OFF IMMEDIATELY. NO CELL PHONE SERVICE IN THE AREA SO I COULD NOT GET A TOW TRUCK. RESTARTED THE CAR. OPERATED FINE TO GET HOME 10 MILES. WAS TAKING IT TO THE NEAREST DEALER 30 MILES FROM HOME WHEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I'M GLAD I DID NOT HAVE MY CHILDREN WITH ME DURING THESE INCIDENTS. AFTER VIEWING INTERNET VIDEOS AND READING ON MANY INTERNET SIGHTS THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH MANY MERCURY MILANS. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL AND FIX THE PROBLEM THAT CAUSES THIS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 (NA) MERCURY MILAN. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE PEDAL TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKES AND ROTORS WERE CORRODED AND WERE CLEANED UP BY THE TECHNICIAN. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (BILL BROWN FORD IN LIVONIA, MI) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HYDRAULIC UNIT, ALL FOUR BRAKES, AND THE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURES WERE NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND A VOICE MESSAGE WAS LEFT WITH A REPRESENTATIVE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NO ONE RETURNED THE CALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,808. CAR WILL LOSE POWER AT ANY GIVING TIME OR SPEED ABOVE 40MPH. YOU MUST THEN TRY TO PULL OFF ROAD AND TURN OFF AND RESTART. IT WOULD ONLY DO THIS ONCE A WEEK, BUT NOW IT'S DOING MULTIPLE TIMES A DAY. DEALER WILL NOT ADDRESS IT AS A WARRANTY PROBLEM DUE TO FACT IT HAS OVER 36000 MILES ON IT. TRIED TO ORDER REPLACEMENT THROTTLE BODY THRU THEM BUT IT ON BACK ORDER. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, MY CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING AND THE RPMS DID NOT BUDGE EVEN WHEN I STEPPED ON THE GAS. A FEW SECONDS LATER THE FRONT END OF MY CAR (WHICH I AM ASSUMING WAS THE ENGINE) BEGAN SPUTTERING. A SERVICE LIGHT ALSO APPEARED WHICH IS THE ONE THAT IS SHAPED LIKE A DOUBLE-SIDED WRENCH. I PULLED OFF OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. I TURNED THE ENGINE BACK ON A FEW MINUTES LATER AND IT STARTED WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. I TOOK MY CAR INTO A FORD DEALERSHIP AN HOUR AFTER AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THEY PLUGGED IN THE COMPUTER AND IT DID NOT DETECT ANY ISSUES. I ASKED THEM TO POP THE HOOD TO SEE IF THEY COULD NOTICE ANY OBVIOUS DISCREPANCIES BUT THEY REFUSED TO. THEY STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING FOR ME BECAUSE THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CURRENTLY HAPPENING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MILAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR BRAKE LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED AS IF THE BRAKES WERE BEING ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE CIRCUIT BOARD WAS DEFECTIVE AND AS A RESULT, THE REAR LIGHT ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,554. *TR
