WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW IN 2010. IN 2012 WE NOTICED FLICKERING IN LEFT REAR TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY, WHICH WAS INTERMITTENT, THIS OCCURRED AT APPROXIMATELY 40,000 MILES. IN OCTOBER 2014 AT APPROXIMATELY 83,000 MILES WE NOTICED THAT WHEN THE HEAD LIGHTS WERE TURNED ON THAT THE BRAKE LIGHTS STAYED ON CONSTANTLY EVEN WHEN THE BRAKES WERE NOT APPLIED. *TR
THE TAIL LIGHTS ON THE CAR KEEP FADING OUT. THE RIGHT TAIL LIGHT IS COMPLETELY OUT AND THE LEFT TAIL LIGHT FLASHES, INSTEAD OF JUST STAYING ON AS THE BRAKE IS BEING PRESSED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE A COUPLE OF WEEKENDS AGO AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CRUISE CONTROL SHUT OFF AND I HAD NO THROTTLE RESPONSE. I PULLED OVER AND THE ENGINE SPUTTERED VERY BADLY. AFTER TURNING THE ENGINE ON AND OFF, I MADE IT TO MY DESTINATION. WHEN I WAS COMING BACK ON SUNDAY, THIS PRECEDED TO HAPPEN TWO MORE TIMES TO ME. ONCE WHEN I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF A HEAVY TRAFFIC LOCATION. I COULDN'T ACCELERATE OR DO ANYTHING BESIDES BREAK AND AVOID AN ACCIDENT, WHICH WAS VERY CLOSE. I AM LUCKY THAT NO ONE GOT HURT BUT IT BECAME VERY EVIDENT THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE THROTTLE IN THIS CAR. AFTER RESEARCHING IT MORE, I STARTING READING SOME OF THESE SAME COMPLAINTS, AND THE FORD MECHANIC I TOOK IT TO EVEN SAID THIS ISN'T THE FIRST OR EVEN THE SECOND TIME HE HAS HEARD OF THIS FAILING ON THE 2010 MILAN. HE CLAIMED THAT WAS DUE TO THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BOTTLE AND BELIEVED IT WAS FROM A DEFECTIVE UNIT ON MOST UNITS (GOOD TO KNOW THE PROBLEM EXCEPT IT WASN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, NOT RECALLED, AND COST ME $500). AFTER HEARING THIS, THERE IS NO WAY THAT THIS CAN NOT BE RECALLED AND FIXED ON EVERY MILAN THAT HAS THIS SAME UNIT WITH THE SAME SERIAL NUMBER. I DON'T KNOW IF ANY ACCIDENTS HAVE OCCURRED DIRECTLY FROM THIS PROBLEM BUT I WAS CLOSE TO ONE THAT DEFINITELY WOULD HAVE COST SOME PEOPLE SOME LIVES. I AM SURE IF THIS IS A DEFECTIVE UNIT IT WILL DEFINITELY CAUSE ONE SOON. *TR
STARTED VEHICLE AND NOTICED CAR JERKING AND NOT ACCELERATING CORRECTLY. I WAS STOPPED AT LIGHT APPROX 1/3 MILE FROM START AND CAR DIED AT LIGHT , CAR RESTARTED AND MADE LEFT TURN ONTO BUSY FREEWAY AND CAR HEISITATED AND STATED JERKING AGAIN WITH NO ACCELERATION. MOVED TO SHOULDER OF ROAD AND CALLED AAA TO HAVE CAR TOWED....UNSAFE AND UNABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVE HOME...15 MILES AHEAD. FORD SERVICE PULLED CODE P2111 FROM DASHBOARD LIGHTS AND SAID THROTTLE BODY WAS SHOT...AT 38000 MILES. NO RECOURSE FROM FORD OUT OF WARRANTY 2000 MILES . I WAS CHARGED 198.55 LABOR AND 137.80 PARTS...TOTAL WITH TAX 347.96. THEY REPLACED PART WITH A NEW PART NUMBER ...OBVIOUSLY THEY KNOW THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART....NO CUSTOMER COMPENSATION. *TR
PURCHASED THIS CAR USED IN JULY 2012. IS A 2010 AND HAD LOW MILES ON IT. DEALER CLAIMED VEHICLE WAS A LEASE AND WAS TURNED IN. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR SEVERAL DAYS, IT STALLED AT STOP SIGN, NO ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED. AFTER RE-STARTING, IT DROVE FINE. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER, VEHICLE AGAIN STALLED AT STOP SIGN. NO ENGINE LIGHT. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO DEALER WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. SEVERAL DAYS LATER, VEHICLE AGAIN STALLED AT STOP LIGHT. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER 9 MONTHS. IT MAY NOT STALL FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. DEALER KEPT THE CAR FOR ONE WEEK, WITH A MECHANIC DRIVING IT AS IT WAS HOOKED UP TO PORTABLE DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE. IT NEVER STALLED, NOR DID IT SHOW ANY ENGINE LIGHTS. DEALER CLAIMS THEY CANNOT FIX IT IF THEY DO NOT SEE ANY INDICATORS ON DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE. IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND IF I WANT TO CONTINUE TO PURSUE THIS, I HAVE TO PAY FOR EACH TRIP. CERTAINLY, SOMEONE MUST HAVE AN IDEA OF WHAT IS CAUSING THIS AS THIS SEEMS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE. I AM EXPECTING TO BE REAR-ENDED ANY TIME NOW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MILAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 41,000.
DRIVING CAR SLOWS AND JERKS PRESS GAS NOTHING HAPPENS. PULL OVER CAR JERKS I CUT IT OFF AND RESTART THE ENGINE. WORKS FINE FOR A FEW MOMENTS THEN STARTS AGAIN. REPEATED THIS PROCESS 6 TIMES. MADE IT TO THE FORD DEALER THEY REPLACED A THROTTLE SENSOR. WORKED FINE AFTER THAT. THEN I TRADED IT. *TR
AFTER ONLY 24,600 MILES, THE SUN ROOF WORKED ONE DAY AND THE NEXT DAY WHEN THE BUTTON WAS ACTIVATED THE SUNROOF BEGAN TO LOWER THE REAR OF THE WINDOW BUT WOUNLD OPEN NO FURTHER. UPON MULTIPLE TRIES, THE RAISING AND LOWERING OF THE REAR PART OF THE WINDOW IS ALL IT WOULD DO. WHEN TAKEN OT BLLOOMINGTON LINCOLN, (MN) THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE MOTOR AND ENTIRE TRACK SYSTEM WOULD NEED REPLACING. THEY TOOK PICTURES TO SEND TO FORD TO SEE IF THEY WOULD HONOR THE WARRANTY. GEE. THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER THE 3 YR, 36000 LIMIT. SHOULD HAVE BEEN A NO BRAINER. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THE THROTTLE WOULD LOSE THE ABILITY TO SEND FUEL TO THE MOTOR THUS CAUSING NO ACCELERATION ABILITY. I WAS REQUIRED TO PULL OFF OF THE ROAD AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART IT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THROTTLE LIGHT CAME ON. THE VEHICLE NEEDED AN NEW ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. *TR
RIGHT REAR BRAKE LIGHT ACTIVATES AND STAYS ON WHILE RUNNING/HEADLIGHTS ARE TURNED ON. I HAVE ALSO SEEN THIS WHILE DRIVING BEHIND SIMILAR MILANS. SOME WITH BOTH SIDES ACTIVATED LEAVING ONLY THE CENTER LIGHT TO INDICATE ACTUAL BRAKING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MILAN. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED SEVERAL MINUTES LATER AND BEGAN TO OPERATE AS DESIGNED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 54,000.
I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH. THE CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN, AND IT JERKED AND HESITATED AND BEGAN TO DECELERATE AS IT CONTINUED THE JERKING AND HESITATION. THE CAR WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE ACCELERATOR AT ALL. CONTINUED TO JERK AND SLOW DOWN AND THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION WERE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. I PULLED IN TO A GAS STATION AND STOPPED THE CAR. *TR
I HAVE HAD THREE INSTANCES OF THE CAR DECELERATING AND STALLING AT HIGH SPEEDS. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT OCCURRED TWICE ON 7/26/12 WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON THE EXPRESSWAY THE CAR QUICKLY DECELERATED AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE THROTTLE LIGHT APPEARED THE FIRST TIME AND AFTER TURNING THE ENGINE OFF, THE CAR STARTED AGAIN; HOWEVER IT OCCURRED A SECOND TIME. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED 35 MILES TO THE DEALERSHIP. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A SERIOUS COLLISION DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WITH CARS AND TRUCKS TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEEDS. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE IN THE RIGHT LANE WITH EASY ACCESS TO THE SHOULDER HOWEVER, A TRUCK CARRYING A HEAVY LOAD HAD TO SWERVE TO PREVENT REAR ENDING ME. I HAVE SEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET AND THE DEALERSHIP HAS ACKNOWLEDGED OTHER REPAIRS ON THE THROTTLE BODY OF THIS MAKE AND MODEL. *TR
WHEN I AM DRIVING (I NEVER HAVE ANY ADVANCE NOTICE) SUDDENLY SPEED CHANGES TO NOTHING NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO. THEN THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON, I HAVE TO GO TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TURN OFF CAR AND RESTART, THEN IT MAY DO THE SAME THING AGAIN OR IT MAY QUIT AND DRIVE NORMALLY. HAS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN THIS WEEK! IT IS VERY DANGEROUS AND FROM THE LOOKS OF THE COMPLAINTS IT SEEMS TO BE A REPEATING PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MILAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE BY RESETTING THE POWER TRAIN CONTROL AND CHANGING THE ENGINE OIL. THE DEALER STATED NO CODES WOULD SHOW AFTER RUNNING DIFFERENT DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION FOR THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MILAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED AND HE SHIFTED INTO DRIVE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED TO 30 MPH WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT STOP. THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A TREE AS A RESULT. THE CONTACT SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES FROM THE CRASH AND THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT CALLED MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. UPDATED 06/18/13*LJ UPDATED 06/24/2013 *JS
I PURCHASED THE CAR NEW IN AUGUST 2010. IN JUNE 2012 I NOTICED A PROBLEM WITH THE LEFT TAIL/BRAKE LIGHT. WHEN THE HEADLIGHTS WERE OFF, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WORKED PROPERLY WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. HOWEVER, WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON, INSTEAD OF THE LEFT TAIL LIGHT BEING ON, THE BRIGHTER BRAKE LIGHT WAS ON ALL THE TIME. THIS COULD LEAD THE DRIVER BEHIND ME TO THINK I AM APPLYING MY BRAKES WHEN I AM NOT. THE REAR LAMPS ON THIS CAR ARE LED, NOT REGULAR BULBS. THE ONLY FIX IS TO REPLACED THE ENTIRE SEALED ASSEMBLY; THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, SO THE DEALER REPLACED THE LAMP ASSEMBLY AT NO CHARGE. NOW, 2 YEARS LATER, I AM HAVING A SIMILAR PROBLEM WITH THE LAMP ASSEMBLY THAT WAS REPLACED. SINCE THE CAR IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY, FORD WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I WOULD HAVE TO PURCHASE THE LAMP ASSEMBLY (WHICH MY RESEARCH SHOWS IS A DEALER-ONLY PART) FOR OVER $400. AND PRESUMABLY, WHEN IT FAILS AGAIN AFTER 2 YEARS, I GET TO SPEND ANOTHER $400 FOR ANOTHER ONE. SINCE MILANS ARE NO LONGER BEING MADE, WHAT WILL WE DO YEARS DOWN THE ROAD WHEN THIS PART IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE FROM ANYONE AT ANY PRICE? JUNK THE CAR BECAUSE THE REAR LIGHTS DON'T WORK PROPERLY? I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS, AND MANY MILAN OWNERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE, AND IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THESE ASSEMBLIES ARE DEFECTIVE. I FEEL THAT FORD SHOULD REDESIGN THESE TO BE RELIABLE (OR ALTERNATIVELY, DESIGN A REPLACEMENT THAT USES STANDARD BULBS INSTEAD OF LEDS), THEN ISSUE A RECALL AND REPLACE THEM AT NO CHARGE FOR THE LIFE OF THE CAR. *TR
LAST YEAR, I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE WHEN A POLICE MAN PULLED ME OVER. HE TOLD ME THAT MY TAIL LIGHT WAS OUT, AND GAVE ME A WARNING. WHENEVER I GOT HOME, I ASKED MY HUSBAND TO CHECK OUT THE MY TAIL LIGHT, AND HE TOLD ME THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG. I CHECKED AS WELL, AND SURE ENOUGH, THE PROBLEM FIXED ITSELF. A FEW WEEKS LATER, A FAMILY MEMBER WHO WAS FOLLOWING ME CALLED TO LET ME KNOW THAT THE LIGHT WAS OUT. I TOOK MY CAR TO A FORD DEALER, AND THEY EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE ENTIRE FIXTURE (ON BOTH SIDES) WAS DEFECTIVE AND THAT THEIR WAS A SHORT. HE THEN INFORMED ME THAT IT WOULD COST WELL OVER $1,000 TO COVER THE REPAIR COSTS. I STILL HAVEN'T HAD THE OPPORTUNITY (OR THE MONEY) TO MAKE THIS REPAIR, AND AFTER DOING A LOT OF RESEARCH, IT SEEMS THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES. I AM ALSO HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY THROTTLE (I WILL BE FILING A SEPARATE COMPLAINT FOR THIS). BECAUSE OF THESE TWO INCIDENTS, I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE MERCURY MILAN, AND I HOPE THAT THIS VEHICLE GETS RECALLED. *TR
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH AND I FELT A SLIGHT JERK IN THE VEHICLE (SIMILAR TO SHIFTING) AND THE YELLOW WRENCH DASHBOARD LIGHT CAME ON, WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL, NOTHING HAPPENED. THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING BUT THE ACCELERATOR DID NOTHING. I PULLED THE CAR OVER, PUT IT IN PARK, TURNED IT OFF, THEN BACK ON AND IT WAS FINE. AFTER DRIVING FOR ANOTHER HOUR, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. THIS IS DANGEROUS!! NOT HAVING AN ACCELERATOR ON A 70 MPH HIGHWAY IS NOT SAFE! AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET THE SAME PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED TO MANY MILAN OWNERS. IT'S IN THE SHOP RIGHT NOW AND THEY CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT'S WRONG. *JB

NORMALLY, IF YOU TURN SHUT THE CAR OFF AND THEN START IT BACK UP IT WILL BEHAVE NORMALLY (AT LEAST FOR A LITTLE WHILE) UNTIL THE PROBLEM RECURS. *TR
I HAVE HAD THE MILAN 2010 INTO FORD 6 TIMES BECAUSE THE ENGINE LOST ALL POWER WITHOUT WARNING:NO LIGHTS;BRAKES;STEERING. I HAVE WITNESSES. IT HAS HAPPENED IN ALL TYPES OF CONDITIONS: STOP AND GO TRAFFIC; MERGING ONTO A FREEWAY. THE LAST TIME BLACK SMOKE CAME FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CAR WAS IN THE SHOP FOR 6 WEEKS. A WEEK AFTER IT WAS SO CALLED "REPAIRED" THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. I STARTED A "LEMON LAW" COMPLAINT IN MARCH 2012. MY MOTHER BECAME FATALLY ILL AND DIED AND I COULD NOT COMPLETE THE CLAIM. JUNE 15, 2012 I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AND THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED. I COULD NOT STOP. I CRASHED INTO A CEMENT WALL. THE CAR WAS A TOTAL LOSS. I GOT WHIPLASH. MY INSURANCE COMPANY WILL NOT PAY THE BALANCE REMAINING ON THE CAR. BBB STOPPED "LEMON LAW" CASE BECAUSE THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT. NO ATTORNEY WILL TAKE THE CASE BECAUSE THERE IS NOT ENOUGH MONEY TO BE GAINED. I AM WITHOUT A CAR; IN DEBT; INJURED; DRIVING A RENTAL CAR AND WORKING 12 HOURS A DAY TO BUY A NEW CAR. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL OUT AND LOSE POWER RESULTING IN RAPID DECREASE IN SPEED AND CREATE UNSAFE DRIVING SITUATIONS. CAR WOULD STILL BE RUNNING BUT PRESSING THE GAS WOULD NOT RESULT IN ACCELERATION. TURNING VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTING AGAIN WOULD SOMETIMES REMEDY PROBLEM BUT PROBLEM INCREASED IN FREQUENCY AND SEVERITY, EVEN HAPPENING TO MY WIFE WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 60+ MPH TRAVELING THROUGH BRIDGE/TUNNEL SYSTEM IN LOCAL AREA. *TR
I WAS FIRST IN LINE AT A RED LIGHT ON A 2-LANE HIGHWAY. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I ACCELERATED AND HALFWAY THROUGH THE INTERSECTION THE CAR "LURCHED" AND LOST POWER. THE CAR DIDN'T DIE BUT THERE WAS NO RESPONSE IN THE GAS PEDAL AND A WRENCH SYMBOL APPEARED IN THE DASH. I MADE IT THROUGH THE INTERSECTION AND TO THE SHOULDER AT IDLE SPEED (WITH A LINE OF CARS BEHIND ME). I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED IT OFF FOR A MINUTE. IT RESTARTED OK, THE WRENCH WAS GONE AND THE CAR RAN FINE. I CONSIDERED IT A FLUKE UNTIL A WEEK LATER WHEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED, EXCEPT THAT I WAS TRAVELING AT 70 MPH IN THE INSIDE LANE OF THE SAME HIGHWAY. LUCKILY THERE WAS ROOM TO CHANGE LANES WHILE DECELERATING AND I PULLED TO THE SHOULDER. AGAIN, IT RESTARTED FINE AFTER I TURNED IT OFF, AND THE WRENCH WAS GONE. I TOOK THE CAR FOR SERVICE AT A FORD DEALER BECAUSE LOSING POWER IN TRAFFIC IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND WHO KNOWS WHEN AND WHERE IT MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN. THE TECH FOUND A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AND REPLACED IT AT A COST OF ABOUT $350 PARTS/LABOR. OF COURSE, WE ARE JUST OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY PERIOD AT 41,000 MILES. *JS

WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A FULL STOP THE CAR WOULD SUDDENLY STOP ACCELERATING FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN LURCH FORWARD AND BEGIN TO ACCELERATE AGAIN. UPON STARTUP THE CAR LURCHED WHEN PUT INTO REVERSE TO EXIT GARAGE. ON 5/22/13 THE CAR SUDDENLY WENT INTO " LIMP MODE" WHILE AT A SPEED OF 40MPH. IT HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED BY FORD DEALER AS A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM. THE THROTTLE BODY IS ON BACKORDER WITH NO DEFINITIVE SHIP DATE. CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE FAILURE AND A DIAGNOSTIC AS PERFORMED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE VEHICLE LATER STALLED WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE WRENCH WARNING ICON. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,500.
WHEN DRIVING, THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT SHIFTS GEARS, THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AND ENGINE POWER IS LOST. AFTER PULLING OVER, TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTING, THE CAR DRIVES NORMALLY. THIS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES IN ONE DAY. DEALER REPROGRAMMED PCM AND IT WAS FINE FOR TWO MONTHS. SAME THING HAPPENED ON JUNE 21, 2012. THIS IS POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING PROBLEM BECAUSE IT HAS HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IN RUSH HOUR CONDITIONS. MANY CONSUMER REPORTS OF SAME SYMPTOMS CAN BE EASILY FOUND ON INTERNET BY SEARCHING FOR "ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL." WHEN I TOOK CAR TO DEALER AFTER MOST RECENT OCCURRENCE, THEY SAID THEIR WERE NO CODES SHOWING SO THERE WAS NOTHING TO FIX. FORD NEEDS TO INVESTIGATE WHY THIS IS HAPPENING AND RECALL/FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM!
2.CAR (HYBRID) LOSES POWER. THIS IS THE ONLY OCCURRENCE. THE CAR WAS STARTED AND DRIVEN DOWN HILL TO AN INTERSECTION. WHEN TURNING RIGHT THE CAR SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING LOST POWER. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO ACCELERATE FAILED AND THE CAR CAME TO A STOP. I LOOKED AT THE DASH AND THE HEV SCREEN. I SAW THAT THE BATTERY WAS FULLY CHARGED (MAXIMUM LIMIT), WRENCH WARNING LAMP WAS ON AND THE HEV SCREEN SHOWED ONLY THE ELECTRIC MOTOR WAS ON (HI LIGHTED). I TURNED THE IGNITION KEY OFF THEN ON, AND THE CAR RETURNED TO NORMAL OPERATION. AT THIS POINT THE HEV SCREEN SHOWED THE ENGINE, MOTOR AND BATTERY HI LIGHTED. I WENT ON A TRIP ON MAY 31, 2013 AND IT FAILED 5 TIMES IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON INTERSTATE ROADS. I FINALLY FOUND A FORD DEALER WHO REPLACED THE THROTTLE MODULE. OTHER FORD DEALERS I CONTACTED COULD NOT HELP ME AS THEY HAD THE PART ON BACK ORDER FOR OTHER CARS THEY COULD NOT REPAIR. IT WAS A SAFETY PROBLEM AND COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE IT IT HAD FAILED DURING PASSAGE OVER A BRIDGE OR IN A CONSTRUCTION ZONE WHERE THERE WAS NOT A BERM. I WAS LUCKY. THE SHOULD HAVE REPLACED IT THE FIRST TIME I TOOK IT IN BUT THEN IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY SO THEY PROBABLY DIDN'T WANT TO.

THE SPEEDOMETER IN THIS MODEL IS DIFFICULT TO VIEW, PARTICULARLY IN DAYLIGHT, DUE TO BLUE NUMBERS AGAINST A BLUE BACKGROUND. THIS COULD BE A SAFETY CONCERN FOR TWO REASONS. FIRST, IF A DRIVER CANNOT EASILY SEE THE SPEED HE/SHE IS TRAVELING, IT COULD RESULT IN DRIVING AT EXCESSIVE SPEED AND RESULTING IN A CRASH. SECOND, A DRIVER MAY HAVE TO TAKE HIS/HER EYES OFF THE ROAD FOR TOO LONG TO SEE THE SPEED REGISTERED, RATHER THAN JUST A GLANCE. THIS DISTRACTION COULD ALSO RESULT IN A CRASH.
