TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MILAN HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED SHE WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. THE CONTACT STATED SHE HAD TO OPEN THE WINDOW TO OPEN THE DOOR USING THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LOCAL DEALER ASHEBORO FORD, INC. (1602 E DIXIE DR, ASHEBORO, NC 27203: (336) 629-3194) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH NEEDING THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR HANDLE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 115,000.
LOSE OF POWER STEERING COMPLETELY WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY. SERVICE ADVANCETRAC LIGHT COMES ON AS IT HAPPENS. I LUCKILY AVOIDED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME.
DRIVING HOME FROM CHURCH, THE "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW" INDICATOR CAME ON AND THE STEERING IMMEDIATELY BECAME NEARLY INOPERABLE. I'M THANKFUL THAT THERE WEREN'T MANY PEOPLE ON THE ROAD AT THE TIME. IT WAS BROUGHT TO THE ONLY SERVICE PLACE ON ISLAND THAT CAN DIAGNOSE THIS PROBLEM, BUT THEY HAVE A 2-3 MONTH WAITING LIST TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. THEY STATED THAT IF THERE WAS A RECALL IN PLACE FOR THE 2010 MERCURY MILAN, THEY COULD DIAGNOSE AND FIX THE VEHICLE. WHY ISN'T THE 2010 MERCURY MILAN INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL - THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF INCIDENTS OF SIMILAR SITUATIONS.
THE VERY NEXT MORNING I STARTED MY CAR THE STEERING WHEEL IS VERY HARD&STIFF TO TURN IT'S NOT SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE THE NIGHT BEFORE THE POWER STEERING SERVICE CAME THROUGH THE DASHBOARD.
POWERSTEERING BECOMES LOCKED WHEN PARKED. WHILE THE CAR IS RUNNING, I HAVE TO MANUALLY TURN THE WHEEL ALL THE WAY TO THE L, THEN ALL THE WAY TO THE R, STRAIGHTEN THE WHEELS, SHUTDOWN THE ENGINE, AND THEN RESTART THE CAR. THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A CAUSE FOR THIS TO HE HAPPENING. MY FEAR IS THAT MY POWERSTEERING WILL FAIL, WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. 2011 WAS RECALLED, PLEASE CONSIDER RECALLING 2010. I HAVE BEEN QUOTED $2300 TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED.

IN ADDITION, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT AND CROSS TRAFFIC ASSIST FAULT INDICATORS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT CALLED BILL BROWN FORD (32222 PLYMOUTH RD, LIVONIA, MI 48150, (734) 399-4244) AND WAS INITIALLY INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER RECALL; HOWEVER, WHEN SHE ARRIVED AT THE DEALER, THE CONTACT WAS NOTIFIED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 131,000.
I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED AS I AM 72 AND CAN'T AFFORD A NEW ONE. I JUST FOUND OUT THE TAIL LIGHT IS OUT AND CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT WOULD COST $1200.00 TO REPAIR. IS FORD JOKING WITH THIS KIND OF LIGHT. I GUESS I'LL JUST TAKE TICKETS WHEN I'M STOPPED.
STEERING ASSIST FAILURE 2010 MERCURY MILAN PREMIER . STARTED THE CAR THEN THE STEERING ASSIST FAILURE INDICATOR CAME ON. FORTUNATELY THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN THIS OCCURRED. MANY VEHICLES HAVE REPORTED THIS ISSUE OCCURRING WHILE MOVING, LOOSING CONTROL. FORD HAS ISSUED RECALLS ON 2011 BUT NOT 2010. SHAME ON FORD AND SHAME ON THE NHTSA FOR NOT REQUIRING FORD TO RECALL ALL VEHICLES REPORTING THIS FAILURE. TOWING AND REPAIR ARE NOW OUT OF POCKET PROBABLY EQUALLING THE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE.

THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED, BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE LOCAL DEALER (SELLERS SEXTON FORD, 341 VFW MEMORIAL DR, ST. ROBERTS, MO) WAS NOTIFIED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY SERVICED PER AN UNKNOWN TAKATA RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
DRIVING AT 50 MPH DASHBOARD SCREEN DISPLAYED POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE AND SERVICE ADVANCETRAC WARNINGS, AND POWER STEERING WAS LOST. AFTER CAR WAS TURNED OFF FOR APPROX 4 HOURS, WHEN STARTED DASH DISPLAYED SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW AND SERVICE ADVANCETRAC WARNINGS, POWER STEERING WAS NEVER RESTORED.
WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN (LOW SPEED) POWER STEERING CUT OUT. POWER STEERING FAULT WARNING CAME ON IMMEDIATELY. I HAVE NOTED MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FOR THESE CARS.

WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, IT FAILED TO RESET. THE CONTACT MANAGED TO DRIVE HOME. MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WAS CHECKED AND THE FUEL VAPOR CANISTER PURGE VALVE IS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY
THE "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE" ALERT CAME ON, I IMMEDIATELY LOST THE ABILITY TO STEER THE VEHICLE. I WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AT THE TIME. I HAD TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF AND RESTART THE CAR TO GAIN STEERING CONTROL AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED A COUPLE OF TIME. I SPENT APPROXIMATELY $1,500 ON REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE AGAIN IS HAVING THE SAME SAME ALERT AND SAME LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL. THERE WAS NOT A RECALL ON THE 2010 MILAN BUT THERE WAS ON 2011 AND OTHER MODELS. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION.
LEFT REAR BRAKE LIGHT. IT WORKS PART OF THE TIME AND THEN IT DOES NOT WORK. STOPPED SEVERAL TIMES FOR IT NOT WORKING, THEN IT WOULD START. NOT THE ENTIRE BRAKE LIGHT IS OUT. PART OF IT STILL LIGHTS UP. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR USED ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT A BI-DIRECTIONAL SCAN TOOL WAS NEEDED TO BLEED THE BRAKING SYSTEM. ADDITIONALLY, THE BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER AND ABS CONTROL MODULE WERE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE REPAIRS DID NOT CORRECT THE FAILURE. LAKELAND FORD (1430 W MEMORIAL BLVD, LAKELAND, FL 33815, (863) 682-1100) WAS CONTACTED, BUT WAS UNCOOPERATIVE IN GETTING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
I PUT CAR IN REVERSE TO PULL OUT OF DRIVEWAY AND THE "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT WARNING" CAME ON DASHBOARD AND IMMEDIATELY THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT MOVE.
THE PASSENGER SIDE OUTER LED TAILLIGHT HAS FAILED NOW TWICE. QUITE EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE AS YOU HAVE TO BUY A WHOLE NEW ASSEMBLY VS JUST A NEW BULB. *TR
FOR THE THIRD TIME IN 3 YEARS THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT IN MY 2010 MERCURY MILAN. FORD STILL DOESN'T WANT TO ISSUE A RECALL ON IT AND GIVING THE 'UNFORTUNATELY YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR OUT OF POCKET, BUT KEEP YOUR RECEIPT IN CASE A RECALL IS ISSUED' SPEECH. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE TO CONTINUE TO HAVE THIS ISSUE. IT BECOMES REALLY UNSAFE WHILE DRIVING AND HAVING YOUR POWER STEERING GO OUT. STEERING BECOMES VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE. NOT EVERYONE CAN AFFORD A $1,500-$2,000 CAR REPAIR EVERY YEAR. HAD I KNOW THIS WAS GOING TO CONTINUE TO HAPPEN AFTER GETTING IT REPAIRED THE FIRST TIME I WOULD'VE SAVED MONEY AND GOTTEN RID OF IT.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V904000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) HOWEVER, THE PART WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 153,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.

WAS DRIVING MY 2010 MERCURY MILAN WHEN MY DASHBOARD SHOWED A SERVICE ALERT "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND "SERVICE ADVANCE TRAC". I PARKED AND TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN ON. AFTER I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON ALL POWER STEERING WAS LOST. THERE ARE RECALLS FOR JUST ABOUT EVERY OTHER MILAN FOR POWER STEERING BUT NOT THE 2010. I CANNOT AFFORD $2000 WORTH OF WORK ON A CAR THAT'S VALUED AT $4000. WHEN I HAVE TO BUY A NEW CAR OVER THIS, I WILL NOT BE LOOKING AT FORD BRANDS.
INSIDE DRIVER DOOR HANDLE BRAKES EASILY DUE TO PLASTIC CONSTRUCTION. HAPPENED ON MY CAR AT 72,000 MILES AND TWICE ON MY SON'S CAR. POTENTIAL HAZARD IN NOT BEING ABLE TO ESCAPE VEHICLE IN AN ACCIDENT.
WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR, BRAKES FELT SOFT AND CAR WOULDN'T STOP. SHE WAS IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA AT LOW SPEEDS AND WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP. SHE RESTARTED THE CAR AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. FORD SAYS IT'S DUE TO A FAULTY ABS MODULE WHICH SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE, BUT NO SAFETY RECALL. ISSUE ALSO AFFECTED TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM AND PREVENTED HYBRID FROM STAYING IN EV MODE WHEN ACCELERATING AT LOW SPEEDS. FORD CHARGING OVER $1,200 TO REPLACE ABS MODULE.
"POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" COMES ON WHILE BACKING 2010 MERCURY MILAN OUT OF THE GARAGE LOCKING MY STEERING AND CAUSING THE CAR TO HIT GARAGE (MINOR ACCIDENT, THANKFUL). UPON RESEARCH I HAVE NOTICED THERE HAS A BEEN A RECALL FOR THE 2011-2015 MERCURY MILAN MODELS BUT NOT THE 2010. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF SAME ISSUE AS MY VEHICLE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM WITH THE MILEAGE RANGING FROM LOW TO HIGH. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION TO EXPERIENCE WITH YOUR FAMILY. 2010 MILAN NEEDS TO BE ADDED TO THE 2011-2012 RECALLS. DANGEROUS TO LOOSE CONTROL OF YOUR STEERING WHILE DRIVING, THIS COULD BE FATAL ON EXPRESSWAY SITUATIONS.
MY 2010 MERCURY MILAN BEGAN TO PULL TO THE RIGHT AFTER ROTATING THE TIRES. THE "SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW" INDICATOR CAME ON AND THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY A SAFETY ISSUE. I TORE MY ROTATOR CUFF TRYING TO STEER THE CAR. FORD IS NOT RECALLING THE 2010 MODEL EVEN THOUGH THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING COMPONENTS ARE IDENTICAL TO THE 2011 WHICH IS RECALLED. A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR, AND DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY 2011 MERCURY MILAN OWNERS ARE MORE VALUABLE THAN 2010 OWNERS.
WHILE DRIVING THE POWER STEERING JUST QUIT AND THE "POWER STEERING FAULT" COMES ON THE DASH. I HAVE READ A NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THESE FORD ELECTRIC PS ISSUES AND I AM REALLY CONCERNED AS TO WHY THIS HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN WHEN THE FORD IS OPERATED.

I WAS DRIVING AND BRAKE PEDAL STARTED SLOWLY LOSING PRESSURE I REPLACED BRAKE CALIPERS AND ROTORS AND STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM I BELIEVE IT IS TO BE THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM I'M NOT SURE HOW TO GO ABOUT REPLACING THIS OR WHAT TO DO TO FILE FOR A RECALL
THE BRAKES ARE SOFT. SOMETIMES I DON'T KNOW IF IM GOING TO BE ABLE TO STOP IN TIME. I REPLACED THE MASTER CYLINDER AND BLED THE BRAKES AND NOTHING. I GOOGLED IT AND THERE HAS BEEN MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS FROM PEOPLE WITH THE SAME YEAR MAKE AND MODEL AS MYSELF. DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE OTHER DAY I HAD TO MAKE A SUDDEN STOP AND I JUST ABOUT CRASHED INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. IT'S NOT SAFE.
WHILE IN MOTION, THE ANTILOCK BRAKES WILL RANDOMLY LOCK UP, INCREASING STOPPING DISTANCE SIGNIFICANTLY ENOUGH TO CAUSE A CAR ACCIDENT
FOR THE LAST YEAR, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST ON MY 2010 MERCURY MILAN WILL RANDOMLY TURN OFF WHILE DRIVING THE CAR AND PRIOR TO STARTING THE CAR. I CAN TURN THE CAR OFF, WAIT AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WILL RE-ACTIVATE.

MY POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING AND ADVANCE TRAC SYSTEM FAULT WARNING CAME ON RANDOMLY FOR MONTHS. WHEN THEY WOULD, I'D LOSE POWER STEERING, BUT COULD TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON AND IT WOULD RESET AND WORK FINE. DURING THOSE MONTHS I TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES, BUT NOTHING COULD BE FOUND SO THEY WOULD CLEAR THE CODES AND TOLD ME REPEATEDLY IT WAS A SENSOR MISFIRE. I HAD READ REVIEWS OF NUMEROUS 2010 MODELS HAVING THE SAME ISSUES BUT NEVER BEING RECALLED. LAST WEEK MY POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST POWER STEERING COMPLETELY. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT INTO A NEW AUTO REPAIR PLACE WHO DIAGNOSED THE ENTIRE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM AS HAVING MALFUNCTIONED AND HAD TO REPLACE THE RACK AND PINION, COSTING ME OVER $2000. THE 2011-2013 MODELS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS EXACT REASON. THE 2010 SHOULD BE AS WELL. IF I HAD BEEN ON BACKROADS DRIVING FOR MY JOB, WHICH I OFTEN AM, WHEN THIS HAD GONE OUT, THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A REAL SAFETY ISSUE.
I STARTED THE CAR, BACKED UP AND SUDDENLY I HAD NO POWER STEERING. NO WARNINGS JUST UNABLE TO BUDGE THE STEERING WHEEL. CAR IS STILL SITTING AT A RESTAURANT . IF THIS HAPPENED TO ANYONE WHILE DRIVING THERE IS NO WAY THEY COULD CONTROL THIS CAR! THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE WITH 2011 MILAN BUT NOT 2010 BUT THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF THIS ISSUE. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT OR WORSE IF FORD DOESN'T FIX THIS. THE 1700 PLUS REPAIR IS IMPOSSIBLE FOR MOST OF US!!!
DOOR HANDLES BRAKING ON DRIVER/PASSENGER DOORS. HAVING DIFFICULT TIME ROLLING WINDOW UP/DOWN IN DRIVER'S SIDE. CHECKED ONLINE, AND THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT CALLED ON BEHALF OF THE OWNER OF A 2010 MERCURY MILAN. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED TO ENGAGE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. AS A RESULT, THE DRIVER REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A TOW LOT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER OR AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNKNOWN.
STEERING COLUMN LOCKS WHILE TURN MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE STEERING COLUMN. THERE ARE 168 RECENT COMPLAINTS DESCRIBING A SIMILAR PROBLEM. WITH THE LAST OCCURRENCE, THE CHARGING SYSTEM LIGHT ILLUMINATED ALONG WITH THE ABS LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT. RESTARTED THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES AND COULD NOT STEER AT ALL. PAUSED A FEW MINUTES, RESTARTED THE CAR AND THE STEERING WAS VERY LOOSE AS IF THERE WAS NO STEERING CONTROL. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. THERE WAS A RECALL ON MODEL YEAR 2011-2015. NHTSA PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND HOLD THE MANUFACTURER ACCOUNTABLE.
WHILE DRIVING THE POWER STEERING HAS WENT OUT SEVERAL TIMES. AT THE TIME THE DASHBOARD INDICATOR WOULD SAY "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND SHORTLY AFTER THAT SAY "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC". UPON RESEARCH I HAVE NOTICED THERE HAS A BEEN A RECALL FOR THE 2011-2015 MERCURY MILAN MODELS BUT NOT THE 2010. I HAVE FOUND A TON OF OTHERS WITH MY VEHICLE EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM WITH THE MILEAGE RANGING FROM LOW TO HIGH. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE SITUATION TO EXPERIENCE WITH YOUR FAMILY IN THE VEHICLE AND HAVE THIS HAPPEN. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDED TO THE OTHER MODEL MILIANS RECALLS.
DRIVING AROUND 35 MPH ON A CURVY CITY STREET AND A ERROR MESSAGE TO SERVICE POWER STEERING SOON ALERTED ME. BEFORE I COULD GET A QUARTER OF A MILE DOWN THE ROAD THE SERVICE POWER STEERING NOW MESSAGE APPEARED, WITHIN MINUTES AFTER THAT MY POWER STEERING COMPLETELY LOCKED UP WHILE I WAS DRIVING. HAD TO GET MY CAR TOWED AND THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SHOP QUOTED ME UPWARDS UP $1250 FOR THE REPAIR. MY CAR HAS ROUGHLY 84,000 MILES ON IT. IF THEY ARE RECALLING THE 2011 MODEL FOR THIS REPAIR THEN OBVIOUSLY THE 2010 SHOULD BE RECALLED AS WELL IF IT HAS THE SAME MALFUNCTIONS, PARTS AND ASSEMBLIES. THIS IS MY ONLY SOURCE OF TRANSPORTATION AND I CAN'T AFFORD SUCH A COSTLY REPAIR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 MERCURY MILAN. WHILE REVERSING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, THE POWER STEERING SEIZED AND THE STEERING WHEEL COULD NOT BE TURNED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 145,000.
AFTER JUST 22000 MILES, THE SEAT WAS STUCK IN THE FULL UP POSITION. I COULDN'T MAKE THE SEAT GO DOWN, AND MY HEAD KEPT HITTING ON THE ROOF. APPARENTLY A CHEAP PLASTIC GEAR BREAKS. FORD WANTED OVER $800 FOR A SEAT TRACK, NOT INCLUDING LABOR. IT DID NOT LOOK LIKE THERE WAS ANY WAY TO REPLACE THIS GEAR MYSELF. I ENDED UP GETTING A SEAT AT A JUNKYARD FOR $150. I SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD TO DO THAT WITH JUST 22000 MILES ON THE CAR. THE SEAT TRACK IS DEFECTIVE, AND APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN REDESIGNED IN 2011 AFTER JUST 1 MODEL YEAR, SO SOMEBODY KNOWS SOMETHING...
WHEN DRIVING IN MOTION PASSENGER REAR BRAKE LIGHT IS ON AT NIGHT AT ALL TIMES....GOT PULLED OVER AND TICKETED. WHEN HOME I COULD NOT RECREATE THE EVENT AT SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO BRAKE BOTH FORWARD AND BACKWARD WITH THE HEADLIGHTS TURNED ON. CAR HAS ONLY 29,000 MILES ON IT.
THE POWER STEERING LIGHT AND THE POWER TRAIN LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED THE CAR OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, STOPPED THE CAR, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON AND THE STEERING WAS GONE. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED OVER THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. PREVIOUS TIMES I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AS THE 2011 MODEL HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THEY HAVE QUOTED ME UPWARDS OF $2000 TO REPAIR. WHEN I DECLINED, THE COMPUTER WAS RESET AND IT WORKED AGAIN. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL SERVICE CAME ON.
STEERING STOP WORKING WHEN IM DRIVING THANK GOD I DID NOT HAVE AN ACCIDENT YOU CANT TURN THE STEERING UNLESS YOU APPLY STRONG FORCE ON IT THAT WAS THE ONLY WAY TO MOVE THE VEHICLE AWAY FROM THE OTHER DRIVERS
AS I WAS DRIVING THROUGH A BUSY FREEWAY, MY STEERING WHEEL JUST LOCKED UP MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT FOR ME TO TURN. I STRUGGLED AND MANAGED TO PULL ONTO THE SHOULDER. I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND TURNED IT ON A FEW TIMES BUT IT DID NOT CHANGE ANYTHING. THE FAULT MESSAGE "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND "SERVICE ADVANCETRAC" DID NOT GO AWAY. I DROVE THE CAR TO THE CLOSEST MECHANIC SHOP. THE MECHANIC MENTIONED TO ME THAT I HAVE TO REPLACE THE STEERING RACK AND PINION AND PERFORM A WHEEL ALIGNMENT. HE ALSO MENTIONED THAT I MAY HAVE TO REPROGRAM THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE. HE GAVE ME A FAT ESTIMATE OF $2100. APPARENTLY THIS SAME ISSUE HAS BEEN RECALLED BY FORD ON THEIR 2011-13 MODELS BUT NOT ON 2010. I WAS SURPRISED TO READ THAT AND REPUTED COMPANIES LIKE FORD DOES NOT TAKE CARE OF THIS ISSUE FOR THEIR VALUED (?) CUSTOMERS. THE CAR IS NOT WORTH PUTTING THAT KIND OF MONEY IN IT. I MAY JUST PUT THAT MONEY AS A DOWN PAYMENT AND GET ANOTHER CAR.
FOR THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS, THE BRAKE PEDAL HAS BEEN INTERMITTENTLY LOW AND NOW IS VERY LOW ALL THE TIME. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE HYDRAULIC ABS VALVE UNIT THAT DOES NOT ALLOW FULL PRESSURE TO REACH THE CALIPERS, RESULTING IN THE LOW PEDAL. IT IS NOT THE MASTER CYLINDER. MY RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT THIS IS A BROAD PROBLEM WITH THE MERCURY MILAN AND THE FORD FUSION. THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AND CAN RESULT IN A SUDDENLY UNEXPECTED INCREASE IN STOPPING DISTANCE AND RESULT IN ACCIDENTS, INJURY, AND DEATH.
