THERE'S A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSION. TRANSMISSION FAILED UNDER WARRANTY AT 90,000 MILES AND WAS REPLACED FREE. TRANSMISSION HAS NOW FAILED AGAIN AT 120,000 MILES AND DEALER REFUSES TO REPLACE.
I STOPPED AT A LIGHT, THE WHEN I WENT TO MAKE A LEFT TURN MY DASH BEGAN TO FLASH A "SERVICE REQUIRED" LIGHT AT ME. AFTER DOING SOME INVESTIGATION, IT TURNS OUT THAT IT IS AN EXTREMELY WELL KNOWN AND UNADDRESSED ISSUE WITH THE CAR'S ACD PUMP FAILING. IT'S A DESIGN FLAW THAT COSTS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX, BUT FAILURE OF THE PART IS PRACTICALLY GUARANTEED. WHY THERE'S NO RECALL YET IS COMPLETELY RIDICULOUS. *TR

MITSUBISHI STATED AS ITS OVER 60K MILES I HAVE NO POWER-TRAIN COVERAGE AND A NEW PUMP AND REPLACEMENT WAS AROUND $2000. AS I WAS DRIVING MY CAR TO WORK LAST WEEK A LIGHT CAME ON THAT LOOKS LIKE MY TIRES ARE UNBALANCED..?... THINKING I MIGHT NEED NEW TIRES, I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP ASSURED ME THAT I DID NOT NEED TIRES. I HAD MY OIL CHANGED AND MY TIRES ROTATED INCLUDING A FRONT END ALIGNMENT AND AN INSPECTION. WHEN I STARTED TO DRIVE AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP, A LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. I TURNED AROUND AND BROUGHT IT RIGHT BACK.THE DEALER PUT MY CAR ON A MACHINE AND TOLD ME THE ISSUE IS "CODE C161E" -INTERMITTENT ISSUES WITH AWD CONTROL PUMP AND THIS PART ALONE WOULD COST $2000.00.MY CAR IS A 2009 WITH ONLY 31000 MILES ON IT. THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT MY THREE YEAR WARRANTY IS UP HOWEVER I STILL HAVE 5000 MILES. HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN WITH SUCH MINIMAL MILES? I DRIVE MY CAR TO WORK AND HOME MOSTLY AND TAKE GOOD CARE OF IT. WHEN I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ONLINE I FOUND MULTIPLE PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE AND HAVE REPORTED THE ISSUE. HOWEVER, NOTHING SEEMS TO BE GETTING RESOLVED EXCEPT BAD FEELINGS. IF THIS IS SUCH A HUGE ISSUE (AS IT SEEMS TO BE ONLINE) WHY DOES MITSUBISHI NOT DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. HOW CAN THEY JUST GET AWAY WITH A MALFUNCTIONING AUTO PART THAT NORMAL EVERYDAY PEOPLE, STILL MAKING CAR PAYMENTS, CAN NOT AFFORD. WHILE INFLATING A CUSTOMER'S TIRE, THE AIR VALVE ON A TPMS SENSOR BROKE. *TR
I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT AND MY AWC LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH MY AWD PUMP. I HAD TO PAY A $45.00 DIAGNOSTIC FEE FOR THEM TO LOOK AT IT. I AM WORRIED THAT THE PUMP WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL COMPLETELY AND I WILL OUT OF LUCK. I KNOW THAT THE PUMP GOES BAD ON THESE CARS, AS I HAVE READ A TON OF DIFFERENT COMPLAINTS ABOUT THEIR RALLIART/EVO HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
AWC PUMP FAILED AFTER ABOUT 20,000 MILES IN THE CAR. PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE VERY COMMON FOR THE EVO X AND REALLIART MODELS 2008 AND AFTER. CAR DOES NOT HANDLE WELL WITH THIS SETTING AND IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE IN THE WINTER BECAUSE CAN'T SET TO SNOW MODE. COST TO REPLACE IS AROUND $2K AND MITSU KEEPS STATING THIS IS NOT COVERED BY POWERTRAIN WARRANTY AND IS A MAINTENANCE ITEM. NEVER HEARD OF A $2K MAINTENANCE ITEMS. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS THAT STATE THE CAUSE OF THIS IS THE WRONG TYPE OF OIL USED AND THE FACT THAT THE PART IS NOT MADE OF DURABLE MATERIAL CAUSING RUST AND FAILURE. SEEMS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW. I STARTED MY CAR THE AWC SELECTION LIGHT STARTED FLASHING. AS I DROVE IT STOPPED FLASHING. THEN THE AWC SERVICE REQUIRED LIGHT CAME ON I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER THEY TURNED THE LIGHT OFF SAID IT WAS A ECU UPDATE. AS IT GOT WARM OUT IT CAME ON PERIODICALLY BUT WOULD TURN OFF. EVERY TIME I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. NOW THE LIGHT HAS COME ON AND STAYED ON. THE CODES ARE FOR PUMP FAILURE. *TR

A SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN THE ENGINE POWER OCCURRED EVEN THOUGH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS BEING ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS MANEUVERED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. UPON RESTARTING, THE VEHICLE RESUMED WITH THE SAME MALFUNCTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
I WAS DRIVING NORTHBOUND ON THE CA IS-15 NORTH AT APPROXIMATELY 5:55 PM PST BETWEEN THE EXITS OF 138/WRIGHTWOOD AND THE ROUTE 395/JOSHUA STREET EXIT. I WAS TRAVELING IN THE FAST LANE GOING ABOUT 68-72 MPH. I GOT A "SERVICE REQUIRED" ERROR LIGHT FLASHING, THEN THE "SLOW DOWN" LIGHT CAME ON WITH A PICTURE OF A THERMOMETER. I CHECKED THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE (WHICH IS DISPLAYED ON THE LED SCREEN BY THE SPEEDOMETER, NOT THE USUAL INDEPENDENT GAUGE) AND THE TEMPERATURE SHOWED THAT IT WAS RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE, WHICH SHOULD BE WORKING GREAT. I SLOWED DOWN TO 50 MPH AS I MERGED FROM THE #1 (FAST) LANE TO THE SLOW LANE BY THE ROAD SHOULDER AND MY ENGINE LOST POWER. LUCKILY I HAD ENOUGH POWER TO GET OVER TO THE SHOULD BEFORE THE USUAL LINE OF SEMI-TRUCKS BLEW PAST ME. I CHECKED THE COOLANT, OIL, AND CTV TRANS FLUID LEVELS, ALL WERE AT CAPACITY. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THAT I HAD EXPERIENCED THIS ISSUE. THE FIRST TIME WAS THIS SAME TIME LAST YEAR (AUGUST, 2012). I HAD BOUGHT THE CAR USED IN JULY 2012. THE FIRST TIME THIS OCCURRED THE DEALERSHIP (VICTORVILLE MITSUBISHI) FIXED IT UNDER TSB 10-23-005. AT THAT POINT THE CAR ONLY HAD 46,000 MILES ON IT. I PLAN TO TAKE THE CAR BACK INTO THE DEALER THIS SATURDAY, PROVIDED I CAN MAKE IT BACK UP THE HILL TODAY AND TOMORROW. THIS IS A REALLY SERIOUS PROBLEM AND I HOPE IT BECOMES AN OFFICIAL RECALL. LUCKILY I WASN'T RUN OFF THE ROAD OR REAR ENDED AND KILLED WITH THE LOSS OF POWER ISSUE DUE TO THE FAULTY SENSOR. *TR

AS I WAS DRIVING UP THE I5 GOING UP THE GRAPEVINE IN CA AT 65-70MPH MY VEHICLE MADE A BEEPING NOISE AND DASH SHOWED THERMOMETER THAT SAID SLOW DOWN. I SLOWED DOWN TO 60MPH AND WENT INTO THE LEFT LANE OR (SLOW LANE WHERE SEMI TRUCKS DRIVE). ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN MORE AND MORE UNTIL A SEMI TRUCK GOT EXTREMELY CLOSE AND HAD TO VEER INTO A FASTER LANE BECAUSE MY CAR WAS ONLY GOING 40MPH. I FOUND AN EXIT AND EXITED THE FREEWAY. I CAME TO A STOP, WHEN IT WAS MY TURN TO GO, MY CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE CAR WAS ON AND IT WAS IN DRIVE BUT WOULD NOT MOVE. FORTUNATELY A CHP VEHICLE CAME ALONG AND STOPPED TRAFFIC LONG ENOUGH FOR MY BROTHER AND 13 YEAR OLD NEPHEW TO PUSH THE VEHICLE OFF THE ROAD. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THIS EXACT INCIDENT OCCURRED IN THIS VEHICLE. THE FIRST TIME I WAS WITH MY MOTHER AND WAS ON THE SAME FREEWAY, LUCKILY THAT TIME WE WERE CLOSER TO THE EXIT AND WERE ABLE TO GET SAFELY TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. PLEASE INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE TO HAVE THESE VEHICLES ON THE ROAD SUDDENLY SLOW DOWN IN FRONT OF SEMI TRUCKS THAT ARE NOT EQUIPPED TO STOP AT SHORT DISTANCES. *TR

SLOW DOWN LIGHT COMES ON GOING 75 FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES ON HIGHWAY. THEN THE CAR HAS A WHINING NOISE THEN LOSES ACCELERATION AND POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS.
THERE IS AN ALL WHEEL TRACTION CONTROL PUMP FOR ONE OF THE CARS MAIN FEATURES. THIS PUMP IS LOCATED DIRECTLY BEHIND THE REAR WHEEL. WHEN YOU LIVE IN AN AREA THAT IS COLD AND THE ROADS ARE SALTED THE PUMP GETS SPLASHED WITH SALTY ROAD WATER AND CORRODES THE PUMP. THIS LEADS THE PUMP TO FAIL AND EXTREMELY LOW MILES. THE WORST PART IS THAT FOR SOME REASON MITSUBISHI DOES NOT COVER THIS UNDER ITS PUMPS OR POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. IT IS ALSO AND INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE PART. MY PART FAILED BEFORE 40,000 MILES. *TR

I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE IN 2009 FROM THE MITSUBISHI DEALERSHIP IN GA, BRAND NEW. I TRAVEL OFTEN AND LONG DISTANCES SO I HAVE ACCUMULATED A LOT OF MILEAGE ON MY VEHICLE WITHIN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. I MAINTAIN THE VEHICLE WITH ALL THE PROPER INSPECTIONS AND SERVICES AND THE SUGGESTION TIMES (OIL CHANGE EVERY 3K MILES, BRAKES AND TIRES AT 50K,...). I BEGAN HAVING ISSUES WITH MY TRANSMISSION IN AUGUST 2012 WITH THIS WHINING NOISE EVERYTIME I ACCELERATED. MY "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT CAME ON SHORTLY AFTER THE NOISE STARTED. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO AUTO ZONE, THEY PULLED A "FAILED SHIFT SOLENOID" CODE. I HAD A TRANSMISSION FLUID FLUSH DONE AT AROUND 70K MILES WITH THE PROPER CVT TRANSMISSION FLUID ADDED TO THE VEHICLE. WHEN I WAS TRAVELING THE HIGHWAY FOR CHRISTMAS FROM MISSOURI TO GEORGIA, ABOUT HALFWAY THROUGH THE TRIP I SAW THIS RED SIGNAL ON THE DASHBOARD THAT READ "SLOW DOWN!" WITH A THERMOSTAT ABOVE THE WARNING. I READ THROUGH THE MANUAL AND GOOGLE SEARCHED THE WARNING AND READ THAT IT MEANT THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS OVERHEATING. FOR THE REST OF THE 13-HOUR DRIVE, ANYTIME I DROVE OVER 75 MILES AN HOUR FOR MORE THAN 30 MINUTES THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON. I TRIED TO IGNORE IT AT ONE POINT AND THIS CAUSED MY TRANSMISSION TO STOP SHIFTING (I HAVE AN AUTOMATIC). I HAD TO STOP 4 TIMES BETWEEN THE TRIP BECAUSE OF THIS LIGHT. I HAVE A POWER-TRAIN WARRANTY ON MY VEHICLE FOR 10 YEARS/100K MILES. WHILE IN SAVANNAH, I HAD THE MITSUBISHI DEALER RUN A DIAGNOSTIC IN WHICH THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN INDICATED THERE WAS AN INTERNAL TRANSMISSION ISSUE. THEY WERE UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE AT THE TIME BECAUSE THE DEALERSHIP WAS CLOSING. NOW BACK IN MISSOURI, THE DEALERSHIP IS "UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE CODE" AND IS MORE BENT ON MAKING ME PAY THE DIAGNOSTIC FEE. MITSUBISHI CUSTOMER CARE ISN'T MUCH HELP EITHER. I FEEL LIKE I'M GOING TO BE STUCK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SOON. SOMEBODY HELP! *TR

I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, WHO REPLACED IT, AND A WEEK AGO, WHILE I WAS DRIVING, IT STARTED SMOKING AND SPARKING AGAIN, BUT STOPS WHEN YOU POWER OFF THE RADIO, IF THE POWER IS ON IN THE RADIO, IT CONTINUES TO SMOKE AND SPARK. I BELIEVE THERE MAY BE A WIRING DEFECT IN MY CAR THAT IS CAUSING THIS TO HAPPEN AND FEAR THAT IF IT CONTINUES MY CAR MAY EVENTUALLY CATCH ON FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 25,000.

I WAS DRIVING HIGHWAY SPEED WHEN THERE WAS A WEIRD NOISE AND MY ABS LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD TO RUN AN ERRAND AND WHEN I GOT BACK IN THE CAR, MY SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. THE DEALER SAYS THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES OR ABS AND NO REASON TO HAVE FAILED EMISSIONS. I'M WORKING TO REPLACE THE SPEED SENSOR. *TR
