VEHICLE FUEL GAUGE SAID 1/4 OF A TANK AS I WAS DRIVING THE CAR SUDDENLY SHUT OFF ON A BUSY ROAD MAKING IT VERY DANGEROUS. I HAD THE CAR TOWED HOME AND AS I WAS TRYING TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM I ADDED GAS TO THE TANK AND THE CAR STARTED. OBVIOUSLY THE PROBLEM IS THE FUEL SENDING UNIT.
THE GAS READING IS ALWAYS MESSED UP SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR, IT'S LEFT ME STRANDED MY LAST 350Z ALSO DID THIS I WON'T SHOP NISSAN WITH THESE ISSUES IF I'M FORCED TO PAY FOR THIS ISSUE TWICE
FUEL SENDING UNIT DOESNT WORK APPROPRIATELY. FULL TANK OF GAS AND IT SHOWS THAT IT DOESN'T HAVE ANY GAS. THERE'S HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS. AS I WAS MERGING ONTO 101 FROM 880 IN SAN JOSE, THE CAR LOST ALL DRIVE AT THE EXIT OF THE MERGE AS THE CAR EXPERIENCED FUEL STARVATION WHEN THE FUEL ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE GAS TANK SLOSH OVER TO THE LEFT SIDE DURING THE TIGHT TURN FROM 101 AND 880. MY SPEED WAS LESS THAN 30MPH AT THE TURN AND THE STARVATION HAPPENED AS I EXITED THE CLOVER LEAF. THE EXPERIENCE WAS SCARY AS I LOST ALL DRIVE WHILE CARS WERE COMING UP BEHIND ME AT 65MPH. THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE, IT IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE 370. I WOULD LIKE TO ASK NHTSA TO STEP IN AND ASK NISSAN FOR A PERMANENT FIX. THIS HAPPENED WITH MORE THAN HALF A TANK OF GAS ON BOARD. *TR
THE FUEL GAUGE IS INACCURATE AND/OR DEFECTIVE FUEL SENDER UNIT CAUSING THE GAUGE TO NOT SHOW A FULL TANK AFTER FILLING UP. IT RENDERS THE GAUGE UNRELIABLE IN DETERMINING THE AMOUNT OF FUEL LEFT. ALSO, THE CAR HAS A FUEL STARVATION ISSUE WHEN MAKING SHARP RIGHT TURNS WITH LESS THAN A QUARTER TANK. IT CAUSES THE ENGINE TO STALL AND WON'T START UNTIL YOU EITHER LET IT SIT OR FILL WITH MORE GAS. *TR
DEAR NHTSA, I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT A SERIOUS ISSUE WITH THE NISSAN 370Z. TODAY AS I WAS COMING OUT OF A SHARP RIGHT HAND OFF RAMP (FROM I-91N INTO 15N IN HARTFORD, CT). THE CAR EXPERIENCED FUEL STARVATION IN WHICH ALL GAS SLOSH TO THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. EVEN THOUGH THE CAR WAS STRAIGHTENED OUT AFTER THE TURN, THE FUEL NEVER RETURNED TO THE RIGHT SIDE WHERE THE FUEL PUMP IS. SO DESPITE HAVING 4.5 GALLONS LEFT IN THE GAS TANK, MY CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN DUE TO THE FUEL PUMP NOT BEING ABLE TO GET ANY FUEL. I SAT THERE DESPERATELY TRYING TO RESTART THE VEHICLE, I ENDED UP HAVING TO HAVE THE STATE POLICE CALLED A FLATBED TO GET ME TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION. IT TOOK MY CAR 14.3 GALLONS TO RESTART (CAR HAS APPROX. 18.7 GALLON CAPACITY). I WANT TO LET NHTSA KNOW HOW DANGEROUS THE SITUATION IS AS THE CAR CAN SHUT DOWN AFTER ANY SHARP RIGHT TURN WHEN THE CAR IS BELOW 1/2 A TANK OF GAS. I HAD ACTUALLY EXPERIENCED IT WITH 3/4 TANK OF GAS, BUT NEVER TO A POINT WHERE THE CAR REFUSED TO START AFTER. I HOPE THE NHTSA CAN LOOK INTO IT AS MULTIPLE OWNERS ARE REPORTING THE SAME ISSUE ON THE INTERNET. THE DEALER IS NO HELP AS THE FUEL WOULD SLOSH BACK TO THE RIGHT SIDE AFTER SITTING THROUGH A 2-3 HOUR FLATBED RIDE, RESULTING IN PERFECT START UP. FUEL SENDING UNIT FAILURE, NOT READING THE CORRECT FUEL AMOUNT FOR MORE THAN 7 MONTHS. THE LED LIGHTS ON THE FUEL GAUGE DIDN'T INDICATE THE CORRECT FUEL AMOUNT GIVING DIFFERENT READING ALL THE TIME. FOR THAT REASON I ALWAYS KEEP THE CAR WITH MORE THAN 1/4 TANK IN ADDITION TO BEING AFRAID OF FUEL STARVATION WHEN BELOW 1/4 TANK. FUEL SENDING UNIT REPLACED BY THE DEALER AFTER 3 VISITS. *TR
