TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, WITHOUT WARNING OR IMPACT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG STRUCK HER IN THE FACE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO A CURB AND DESTROYED THE TRANSMISSION AND THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG INDICATOR FLICKERED ON AND OFF PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO HER HOME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000.
DETAIL: ON FEBRAURY 2, 2007 VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF 45-55 MPH WHEN IT HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE THAT PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF IT HEAD ON. NEITHER THE DRIVER'S SIDE NOR THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. DRIVER SUBSTAINED MINOR BRUISES AND HIP PAIN. CAR WAS TOTALLED OUT BY INSURANCE COMPANY. *AK

THERE WERE 3 TO 4 CARS IN FRONT OF CONSUMER'S VEHICLE. UPON IMPACT, THE FRONT AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. WAS IT POSSIBLE FOR AIR BAGS NOT TO DEPLOY DURING A COLLISION? THE CONSUMER WAS WEARING HIS SEAT BELT. THE REAR OF CAR SUSTAINED MINOR DAMAGE. HOWEVER, THE FRONT OF THE CAR SUSTAINED MAJOR DAMAGE. THE HOOD WAS DENTED, AND THE BUMPER CRACKED IN HALF AND FELL OFF.*AK
1. VEHICLE FISHTAILED ON WET SURFACE, LOST CONTROL, BEGAN TO ROLL. VEHICLE LEFT ROADWAY, HIT IRON FENCE, SPUN 180 DEGREES, REAR END HIT TREE. 2. THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT HAVE LOST CONTROL, NOR SHOULD IT HAVE BEGUN TO ROLL IN THAT SITUATION. NOT A SINGLE AIR BAG DEPLOYED WHEN FRONT HIT IRON FENCE AT APPROX. 40 MILES PER HOUR. PASSENGERS WERE LEFT WITH MINOR, NON-INCAPCITATING INJURIES (WHIPLASH, MUSCLE PAINS, BRUISED ORGANS). 3. CAR WAS TOTAL LOSS. AWAITING COMPENSATION FROM INSURANCE COMPANY.*AK

OUR 2000 NISSAN ALTIMA GXE 4 DR SEDAN COMES EQUIPPED WITH DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS. THEY FAILED TO DEPLOY DURING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT THIS PAST FRIDAY. ALTHOUGH WE WERE NOT SERIOUSLY HURT THE PARAMEDICS, POLICE OFFICERS AND FIRE FIGHTERS FOUND IT AMAZING AND INCREDIBLE THAT A LATE MODEL CAR'S AIR BAGS WOULD NOT DEPLOY AT THIS ACCIDENT. A DRUNK DRIVER HIT THE LEFT SIDE OF MY CAR. I WAS TRAVELLING AT 40 MILES PER HOUR THROUGH AN INTERSECTION WHEN HE TRIED TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. HE HIT ME IN THE PROCESS AND THE IMPACT WAS SUCH THAT WE HAD TO TAKE MY WIFE TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM TO MAKE SURE SHE DIDN'T HAVE ANY INTERNAL INJURIES. I AM JUST DISAPPOINTED THAT THE AIR BAGS, THAT ARE INTENDED FOR THESE TYPES OF ACCIDETNS, DID NOT DEPLOY. IF THIS IS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT THEN IT IS A MATTER THAT NEED TO BE ADDRESSED.
