MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH RECALL SERVICE WORK NOT CORRECTING THE MALFUNCTION THE RECALL IS SUPPOSED TO CORRECT. SPECIFICALLY OF CONCERN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS : 03V455000 & 03V084000 & 03V251000. NOT RECEIVING RECALL NOTICES BY MANUFACTURER OR BEING INFORMED BY NISSAN SERVICE DEPT. I HAVE SINCE CONTACTED NISSAN CORP CONSUMER AFFAIRS BUT RECEIVED NO RESOLUTION OR SUGGESTIONS. PROBLEMS WITH ENGINE PERFORMANCE, EXCESSIVE EXHAUST, AND STRONG BURNING SMELL ARE STILL PRESENT ALONG WITH SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT REMAINING ON. HAVE TAKEN VEHICLE TO SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR OVER 6 VISITS IN LAST 5 MONTHS - VEHICLE IS STILL AT SERVICE DEPT. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE OVER THESE PAST MONTHS WHILE THESE PROBLEMS PERSISTED. I ASKED FOR A LOANER VEHICLE OR TO HAVE TRANSPORTATION TO GET MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT WAS DECLINED ANY HELP - EVEN THOUGH ID # 03V084000 NISSAN RECALL NOTICE STATES IT SHOULD BE OFFERED FREE OF CHARGE IF CUSTOMER MAKES THIS REQUEST. I AM GREATLY CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND MY FAMILY AND AM SCARED TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE ANY FURTHER. MY LOCAL NISSAN SERVICE DEPT (PINE BELT NISSAN AUTOMOTIVE) AND NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS HAS NOT ADDRESSED MY CONCERNS AND HAVE FAILED TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM THAT HAS EXISTED FOR MONTHS. VEHICLE HAS HAD REDUCED POWER, HESITATION, PULLING AND VIBRATION, EXCESSIVE EXHAUST AND AN INCREASINGLY STRONG BURNING SMELL FROM ENGINE SHORTLY AFTER VEHICLE IS STARTED.*AK
2002 NISSAN ALTIMA. 1)REAR PADS + ROTORS WORN AT 35,000 MILES: REPLACED AT OWNERS COST. NOW 83000 MILES(MAY '08): DEALER HAS TOLD ROTORS AND PAD NEED REPLACEMENT AND POSSIBLY CALIPERS NEED TO BE EVALUATED. AT 75000 MILE CHECK EVERYTHING WAS OK. (PER THE SERVICE RECORD). IN JAN'08 I HAD SPECIFICALLY ASKED THE BREAKS TO BE INSPECTED. TOLD OK. NOW SUDDENLY THE ROTORS ARE SHOT. OTHER THAN A SQUEAL SOUND FOR 2 DAYS NO OTHER SYMPTOMS. CONCERNED ABOUT HOW BRAKES GO FROM FINE TO SHOT IN 3 MONTHS. I THINK IT IS A BIG SAFETY CONCERN IF THE TIME IT TAKES BREAKS TO DISINTEGRATE IS LESS THAN A 3 MONTH PERIOD. 2) ENGINE NOT STARTING AFTER PARKED IN THE COLD. HAPPENED TWICE ONCE AT 48000 MILES. CAR HAS BEEN BURNING OIL SINCE 1ST OIL CHANGE AND DEALERSHIP AND NISSAN HAVE REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM. *NLM

WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE WILL BLOWOUT HEAT EVEN THOUGH IT IS NOT ON CAUSING VEHICLE TO STAY HOT. CAUSE UNKNOWN. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
THIS CAR HAS BEEN A LEMON SINCE DAY ONE, IN AND OUT OF DEALERSHIP FOR ONE REASON OR THE OTHER, IT STARTED WITH THE CAR RUNNING HARD, DEALERSHIP TOLD ME IT WAS BECAUSE I HAVE BROKE THE CAR IN AND NOW THIS IS HOW THEY RUN, TOOK IT BACK AGAIN 3 TO 4 MORE TIMES WITH SAME PROBLEM,TOLD THEM CAR IDLES HIGH, SHIFTS BAD, RUNS BAD, THEY SAID NOTHING WRONG, I DO ALOT OF HIGHWAY MILES AND AS SOON AS I WAS OVER THE MILES AND OUT OF THE WARRENTY THEY TOLD ME THAT THE MOTOR MOUNTS WERE GONE ONLY 800 TO GET FIXED, I WAS THEN HIT BY A CAR HEAD ON AND REALLY HURT I SUFFERED MAJOR BACK PROBLEMS , COME TO FIND OUT I PROBABY COULD HAVE PREVENTED SOME OF THE DAMAGE TO MY SELF IF I HAD A SAVER CAR, MY AIR BAGS DIDN;T DEPLOY. I HAVE HAD EVERY RECALL TO THIS CAR , THE SERVICE MEN AT THE DEALSERSHIPS ARE THE RUDEST MEN I HAVE EVER DELT WITH. I WAS RIGHT THE WHOLE TIME !!!!! I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED THE SAME THING WITH THE LIGHTS COST AROUND 800 TO FOX KEPT CHANGING THE LIGHTS NOT TO MENTIONS THE TICKETS I RECIEVED FROM THE COPS , I EXPLAINED TO THEM THE LIGHT KEEPS GOING OUT, THEY ARE LIKE THIS IS A 02 THAT DOESN'T HAPPEN, IF THEY ONLY KNEW!!! I AM REALLY TIRED OF THIS CAR , NOW I WAS JUST TOLD THAT THE CAR HAS ANOTHER PROBLEM, IT OVER HEATS THEY THINK IT MIGHT BE THE THEROSTAT BUT THEY DON'T KNOW. HOW MUCH MONEY WILL THAT COST ME??? THERE'S A PLASTIC PIECE ON DASHBOARD THAT IS TOO BRIGHT, AND IT IS HARD TO SEE WHILE DRIVING.*AK
I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO NISSAN APRIL 6, 2010, DUE TO DASHBOARD LIGHTS WENT OUT, I HAD TO PAY $630.00 FOR A NEW CLUSTER, AFTER 4HRS OF DIAGNOSIS TESTING NISSAN HAD TO ARRANGE FOR ME A RIDE HOME TWO DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT LIT AGAIN I RETURNED THE CAR BACK TO NISSAN AND WAS TOLD I NEED A CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND SENSORS $1668.00, THERE WAS A RECALL REGARDING THIS PROBLEM , BUT I DO NOT THINK NISSAN FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR

AT ANY SPEED, MY SPEEDOMETER SHOWS A DIFFERENT SPEED THAN MY ACTUAL SPEED. MY ACTUAL SPEED HAS BEEN VERIFIED BY RADAR, GPS, MILE MARKERS AND TRAVELING ALONG SIDE ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH AN ACCURATE SPEEDOMETER (BASED ON GPS AND RADAR). WHERE MY SPEEDOMETER IS SHOWING LESS THAN MY ACTUAL SPEED, I AM SUBJECT TO MAKE MENTAL ADJUSTMENTS TO INCREASE MY SPEED TO ACTUALLY TRAVEL THE DESIRED SPEED. WHEN I GET IN ANOTHER CAR THAT HAS AN ACCURATE SPEEDOMETER, BY HABIT, I TEND TO INCREASE MY SPEED IN THAT CAR, SUBJECTING ME TO POSSIBLE FINES FOR SPEEDING. NOTE: THE TIRES ARE THE ORIGINAL TIRES AND THIS PROBLEM EXISTED FROM THE TIME I BOUGHT THIS CAR. I CONTACTED NISSAN ABOUT THIS AND THEY SAID THAT AS LONG AS THE SPEEDOMETER IS ACCURATE TO WITHIN 10%, IT'S WITHIN SPECS. THAT IMPLIES THAT IF MY SPEEDOMETER READS 70 MPH AND MY ACTUAL SPEED IS 77, NISSAN IS FINE WITH THAT! :( PLEASE INCREMENT THE INCIDENT COUNT FOR COMPLAINT # 10000521, AS I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM/TREATMENT. I HAVE APPROACHED MANY ALTIMA OWNERS AND FOUND THIS TO BE A PERSISTENT PROBLEM.*JB
HAD A GAS LEAK IN MY DRIVE WAY AND CALLED DEALER AND INFORMED THEM OF PROBLEM AND THEY HAD IT TOWED TO SHOP FOR OBSERVATION. COULD NOT FIND LEAK. HAD A SECOND LEAK JUST YESTERDAY 5 MARCH 2003 AND THE SERVICE DEPT SUPERVISOR CAME TO MY LOCATION TO CHECK IT OUT, HE SAW THE LEAK AND CALLED TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE SHOP FOR OBSERVATION. I AM STILL WAITING TO FIND OUT WHY MY NEW CAR IS LEAKING GAS. 8JB
SHIFTING FROM 5TH GEAR TO 4TH GEAR AND CLUTCH PEDAL STAY IN THE FLOOR. CLUTCH, PRESSURE PLATE, THROW OUT BEARING AND FLYWHEEL FAILED.*AK
LIKE THOUSANDS OF OTHER 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5 OWNERS, NISSAN HAS LEFT EVERY ONE OF US HANGING OUT THERE AND ALL THEY CAN RECOMMEND IS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. NISSAN CREATED THIS PROBLEM AND IS VERY AWARE OF THE OIL CONSUMPTION, CATALYTIC CONVERTER BREAK UP AND OXYGEN SENSOR FAILURE. THEN THERE IS THE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AND LET'S NOT FORGET THE HARD STARTING AND FAILURE TO START. I WILL NOT BUY ANOTHER NISSAN AGAIN AND IT DISGUSTS ME THAT NISSAN IS WASHING ITS HANDS OF THESE ISSUES. I COULD UNDERSTAND THEIR RELUCTANCE TO LOOK ANY FURTHER IF THERE WERE ONLY A HANDFUL OF OWNERS WITH THIS PROBLEM BUT THERE ARE THOUSANDS AND WE ARE ALL FED UP WITH THE WAY NISSAN HAS HANDLED THE ISSUES. THEY KNEW AFTER THEY ROLLED OUT THE 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA, IT HAD ISSUES BUT THEY HAVE BURIED THEIR HEADS IN THE SAND. WHENEVER YOU CALL NISSAN DIRECT, THEY JUST BLOW YOU OFF AND ALL THE DEALERSHIPS CAN RECOMMEND IS A NEW ENGINE. THEY ARE TREATING THEIR CUSTOMERS AS IF THEY ARE STUPID. IT ANNOYS ME THE FACADE NISSAN IS PUTTING ON AND TREATING ANY NISSAN ALTIMA CUSTOMER AS IF THEY ARE THE ONLY ONE WITH A "LEMON" WHICH NEEDS A NEW ENGINE. MY NISSAN HAS DONE 145,000 MILES AND SHOULD NOT NEED A NEW ENGINE AFTER YEARS OF REGULAR MAINTENANCE. NISSAN ISSUED A RECALL IN DEC 2006 WHEN I THINK THEY KNEW THEY HAD A PROBLEM. THEY DID NOT REPLACE THE OXYGEN SENSORS AT THAT TIME. THEY JUST CHECKED THEM. EXACT DATE OF INITIAL INCIDENT NOT KNOWN. MY CENTER CONSOLE WAS IN USE WHILE HIGHWAY DRIVING BEHIND A COMMERCIAL VEHICLE IN THE FAR RIGHT HAND LANE. DEBRIS FELL ONTO THE ROAD AND IN AN EFFORT TO AVOID IT, I SWERVED TO THE LEFT. THIS ACTION PLACED MORE OF MY WEIGHT ON THE CONSULE AND IT COLLAPSED. WHEN IT DID SO, I FELL TO THE RIGHT AWAY FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AND PLACED ADDITIONAL PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDEL NEARLY SENDING MYSELF INTO THE MEDIAN AND POSSIBLY FLIPPING OVER. I DID MANAGE TO COMPENSATE AND AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT BUT WAS VERY SHACKENED AND HAD TO PULLOVER TO COMPOSE MYSELF. SINCE THEN THE CONSULE HAS BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES. THE PARTS DEPARTMENT HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS SHOULD BE LOOKED AT BY NISSAN AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ADVISED ME I USE THE CENTER CONSOLE INCORRECTLY AND NO PRESURE OR WEIGHT WAS MENT TO BE PLACED ON THIS COMPONENT. IN MY 30 YEARS DRIVING I HAVE DRIVEN MANY CARS WITH CONSOLS AND HAVE NEVER ENCOUNTERED THIS PROBLEM. I AM OF AVERAGE HEIGHT AND WEIGHT AND DO NOT BELIEVE THAT I HAVE CAUSED THIS PROBLEM AND THAT A CONSOLE SHOULD STAND UP TO AVERAGE USE.
SPEEDOMETER READS APPROX 10% HIGHER THAN ACTUAL SPEED. VERY DISTRACTING IN THAT ONE IS CONSTANTLY DOING MENTAL CALCULATION. DEALER INITIALLY SAID THEY COULD NOT TEST AND I SHOULD TIME IT AGAINST MILEAGE MARKERS - DID SO. LATER DEALER ID SOME SORT OF ELECTRONIC TEST AND SAID IT WAS OFF SOMEWHAT BUT NOT 10%. SAID REGULATIONS ALLOWED 10% ERROR SO IT WAS WITHIN SPECS. TS
ODOMETER WAS 4 SECONDS FASTER CAUSING CONSUMER TO DRIVE FASTER THEN INTENDED. DEALER AND MANUFACTURERHAVE BEEN INFORMED, AND DIDN'T SEE IT BEING A PROBLEM. PLEASE ADD MORE INFORMATION.*AK
THE FIRST FAILURE WAS ON 2/28/02. THE CAR STOPPED ON MY HUSBAND ON THE INTERSTATE & WAS TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER. THE CRANK SENSOR WAS DEFECTIVE & WAS REPLACED. EXACTLY ONE WEEEK LATER ON 3/7/02, THE CAR WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE A DEFECTIVE COIL TO THE CRANK SENSOR WAS FOUND DEFECTIVE & REPLACED. ON 5/10/02, THE CAR STOPPED ON ME IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET & AFTER BEING TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER, THE CRACK SENSOR WAS FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE AGAIN! IT WAS REPLACED & I WROTE TO NISSAN ABOUT OUR CONCERNS. ON 6/4/02 THE CAR AGAINSTOPPED ON MY HUSBAND ON THE INTERSTATE. AGAIN A LETTER WAS SENT TO NISSAN (AS WELL AS SEVERAL NISSAN VPS) AND AS OF TODAY (THREE WEEKS LATER) WE DO NOT HAVE OUR VEHICLE, NOR DO WE WANT THAT ONE BACK! THE DEALER HAS LOANED US A VEHICLE, BUT WE ARE CURRENTLY PAYING FOR A CAR THAT NISSAN OBVIOUSLY CANNOT FIX OR DO NOT KNOW HOW TO REPAIR! THEY SAY THAT THEY ARE WAITING ON A PART, BUT MY HUSBAND & I DO NOT TRUST A VEHICLE THAT WILL STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT WARNING! I AM TRYING ALL AVENUES TO GET HELP WITH THIS SITUATION. RECALL 03V084000 CONCERNING ENGINE COOLANT. CONSUMER CLAIMED THAT VEHICLE CONSUMED TOO MUCH OIL. DEALER CLAIMED THAT VEHICLE SHOULD NOT USE MORE THAN 1 QUART OF OIL PER 5000 MILES, EVEN THOUGH THE RECALL WAS DONE. CONSUMER FELT THAT VEHICLE WAS STILL USING TOO MUCH OIL. AK
WITH THE FROST INTERIOR COLOR THE DASH REFLECTS ON THE WINDSHIELD IN BRIGHT SUNLIGHT CONDITIONS PARTIALLY OBSCURING VISION FORWARD. IT IS COMPARABLE TO A LIGHT FOG, AND THE EFFECT IS GREAT WHEN LOOKING INTO A SHADED AREA (GARAGE, UNDERPASS, TUNNEL). I USE. *AK

CONSUMER STATES THAT INTERMITTENLY WHEN FILLING THE FUEL TANK THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT WILL ILLUMINATE. CHECKED BY THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT CAR IS READING A "VAPOR LEAK" CODE. DEALER HAS REPLACED GAS CAP TWICE, BUT PROBLEM IS STILL OCCURING. TS

WHILE DRIVING 40-45 MPH, NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. CONSUMER PULLED OVER AND FIRE DEPARTMENT PUT OUT THE FIRE. VEHICLE WAS TOTALLED. FIRE DEPARTMENT THOUGHT FIRE WAS CAUSED BY FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM. HOWEVER, CAUSE OF FIRE HAS NOT BEEN OFFICIALLY DETERMINED YET. NO INJURIES. *AK *JB
DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT WILL NOT LATCH ALL OF THE TIME. SOME TIMES IT DOES. SOMETIMES IT DOES NOT. CLICKING THE RELEASE BUTTON SEVERAL TIMES SEEMS TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM WOULD NOT MANIFEST ITSELF WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT.*AK

THIS EVENING I WENT OUT TO START THE CAR. THE TEMP. WAS ABOUT 32 DEGREES. THE CAR WOULD NOT START. SINCE THIS HAS HAPPENED BEFORE, I DID WHAT THE SERVICE DEPT. AT THE DEALER SUGGESTED AND PUSHED THE GAS TO THE FLOOR AND TRIED AGAIN WITH NO LUCK. I WAS TOLD BEFORE THAT THIS COULD BE A PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BEING COLD. WHY WOULD THEY SELL A CAR WHERE IT SNOWS IF IT WON'T START. MY WIFE IS EXPECTING A BABY IN 8 WEEKS AND WE NEED A RELIABLE CAR. THE DEALER DOES NOT SEEM ANXIOUS TO HELP SOLVE THE PROBLEM. TODAY IS JAN. 6, 2003 AND I CANNOT REGISTER BELOW AS 2003 BECAUSE IT IS NOT OFFERED ON THE DROP DOWN BOX. THEREFORE I AM REGISTERING AS 2002.
WHEN PUTTING THE KEY INSIDE OF IGNITION SWITCH TO START VEHICLE IT STARTS INTERMITTENTLY, AND THEN SHUTOFF WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA. NISSAN ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE ARE 3 RECALLS RELATED TO HIS VIN; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WANTS RELATED RECALLS FOR A 2002 NISSAN ALTIMA REPAIRED ON HIS VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS GIVEN THE DETAILS REGARDING REIMBURSEMENT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 166,000.
SINCE DECEMBER OF 2001 EVERY MONTH VEHICLE NEEDD AN OIL CHANGE. VEHICLE WAS BURNING TOO MUCH OIL. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND THEY STATED THAT ENGINE NEEDED REPLACEMENT, BUT COULDN'T SAY WHAT THE CAUSE WAS. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK

I've owned my 2002 Nissan for about 6 months now the previous owner informed me prior to purchase about issues she was having and the reason she was selling the car, explain to me that her friend who has worked on cars 20+ yrs felt if cause could be found it was repairable but seems luck she had is now the luck I'm having. I have a couple ppl look over the car under hood and run diagnostics but nothing can be found.. I can't afford to junk the car my income budget is tight and doesn't allow much wiggle room to purchase a new ride a friend told me about the NHTSA website so we went exploring entering my VIN number comes back no recalls but looking over the recalls for saying make and model and year of my vehicle there's 12 to 15 recalls on it from headlights which I'm is an issue to engine stalls to catalyst issues but yet I'm told that no because we're done on my vehicle I know I'm not the first owner it's a vehicle that I just purchased but I want to speak to someone that can clarify or help me with finding out if my vehicle is actually supposed to be in recalls of these certain things because they were fitted the descriptions of what can take place fit what I'm experiencing and what the previous owner is experienced perfectly please contact me thank you for your time

2002 NISSAN ALTIMA RECALL FOR CATALYTIC CONVERTER. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE FOR THE ROAD. DEALER SAYS THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE CONSUMER IS OVER THE 80,000 WARRANTY. *KB THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS TOO CLOSE TO THE TRANSMISSION WHICH COULD CAUSE HEAT BUILD-UP AND BREAK DOWN THE CATALYST WHICH COULD CAUSE PIECES TO SPRAY BACK INTO THE ENGINE.*JB

CONSUMER STATES PREMATURE BREAKDOWN OF THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER *TGW THE VEHICLE WAS BURNING A QUART OF OIL EVERY FEW DAYS, DUE TO A DEFECTIVE CATALYTIC CONVERTER THAT WAS DETERIORATING AND ITS PARTICLES WERE SUCKED INTO THE ENGINE DESTROYING ITS ABILITY TO ADMINISTER POWER TO THE VEHICLE. REFLECTIONS OF DASHBOARD INTO WINDSHIELD ON VEHICLES WITH FROST INTERIOR COLOR ARE HAZARDOUS AND EXCESSIVELY OBSCURE DRIVERS VISION AT ALL TIMES, PEDESTRIANS AND OTHER VEHICLES ARE SOMETIMES IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE. NLM
CONSUMER STATES THAT SNOW BUILDS UP IN THE SMALL WHEEL WELLS AND MAKES STEERING DIFFICULT, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT TURNS COLD, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. THERE IS ALSO EXTREME WEAR ON THE TIRES DUE TO THE ICE BUILD UP, THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO SHIMMY IN THE FRONT END. *SLC

THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE OF THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND REPLACED IT. *AK. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START TWICE AND HAD TO BE TOWED, THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, THE VEHICLE STALLED WHILE IN DRIVING. *TS *JB
