THE CONTACT THEN NOTICED THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V527000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 101,770.
WHILE JACKING MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA UP UPON LOOKING UNDERNEATH I NOTICED A 4 INCH BY 4 INCH PATCH OF RUST. AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION I NOTICED THAT IT WAS RUSTED ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO THE CARPET INSIDE THE CAR. SIX MONTHS AGO WHEN I WAS WORKING ON MY CAR THERE WAS NOT RUST AT ALL. I TAKE CARE OF MY CAR AND INSPECT THE CAR FOR ANY PROBLEMS. THERE ARE NO RECALLS FOR THIS BY NISSAN AND THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED. AFTER RESEARCHING I FOUND THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 02 - 05 ALTIMAS AND IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT MADE SEVERAL UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND MOVE IT ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE RESIDENCE AND THEN TO PEP BOYS. THE MECHANIC PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND STATED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION CAUSED THE FAILURE TO OCCUR. THE MECHANIC STATED THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION AND IT SHOULD BE TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V527000, ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING WAS RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION AT THE CONTACTS EXPENSE FOR $486. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL DUE TO THE HIGH MILEAGE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO STATED DUE TO THE HIGH MILEAGE THEY WILL NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE PER THE RECALL. THE CONTACT FILED COMPLAINT#7925515 WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,730.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE TEST RESULTS INDICATED A FAULTY ECU AND CRANK POSITION SENSOR. THE PRE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND TWO OXYGEN SENSORS WERE REPLACED BY THE MECHANIC. AFTER THE REPAIR, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO BRIEFLY PAUSE WHEN ACCELERATING. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE MALFUNCTION WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR. THE MECHANIC SUGGEST TO LOOK UP ANY OUTSTANDING RECALLS AND I FOUND THE ABOVE CAMPAIGN WHICH DESCRIBES MY PROBLEM EXACTLY. ALL I NEED TO DO IS TAKE IT TO THE DEALER TO REPROGRAM THE ECM. THE DEALERS STATES THAT MY CAR IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL AND WANT TO CHARGE TO GET IT REPROGRAM. WHY SHOULD I PAY FOR A MANUFACTURE DEFECT WHEN THERE IS AN OUTSTANDING RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. THE CARS HAS NO OTHER PROBLEMS AND THE ONLY REASON WHY IT WON'T PASS INSPECTION IS BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED ABOVE. NOTICED RUST. TOOK IT TO NISSAN. FLOORBOARD RUSTED OUT. THEY SAID IT IS NOT COVERED. REPAIRS RUN BETWEEN $3,000 TO $4500. NOW EATING THROUGH TO PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. HAVE TO AVOID AREAS OF FLOOR BOARD TO NOT PUT FOOT THROUGH. ALSO, I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH PEDAL 3 TIMES. IT BREAKS AND IS CITED ON NUMEROUS WEB DISCUSSIONS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE WHEN THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE RUST SPOTS UNDER THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS, UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED RUST OVER THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THEY COULD PROVIDE NO ASSISTANCE BECAUSE THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,903.

I OWN A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA WITH ONLY 51,570 MILES AND I NOTICED A STRANGE SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I USE TOP GRADE GAS AND HAVE HAD THE OIL CHANGED EVERY 3000-3500 MILES. I TOOK IT TO A SHOP AND FOUND THAT IT WAS THE TENTIONER FOR THE TIMING BELT. HAVE HE GOT TO THE ITEM HE SHOWED ME WHERE THE HARD PLASTIC CLIP HAD BUSTED OFF AND HAD THE ALLOWED THE TIMING BELT TO BECOME SLOPPY. THANK GOD I HAD A EXTENDED WARRANTY SO IT WAS COVERED HOWEVER, NOW I NOTICE I AM USING EXCESSIVE OIL. I ONLY NOW HAVE 51,880 MILES AND HAD TO ADD 1 QT OIL. IN CHECKING WITH WEB SITES IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE PRE-CATS CAUSING ISSUES AND NISSAN IS AWARE BUT WILL NOT DO A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. IT IS A DESIGN FLAW AND SHOULD BE COVERED BY NISSAN. *TR
THE VEHICLE WILL STALL WHILE DRIVING AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. AT TIMES THEVEHICLE TAKES SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO START. *TR
DUE TO A KNOWN ENGINEERING FLAW, WATER GETS CAUGHT UNDER THE FLOOR BOARDS AND ROTS/RUSTS OUT THE FLOORING. MY FEET ARE ABOUT TO FALL THROUGH THE FLOOR OF CAR. PASSENGER SIDE IS WORSE. THE DEALER/NISSAN IS WELL AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND STILL WILL NOT COVER IT. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS. THERE IS A HOLE IN EACH FLOORBOARD THAT WAS PUT THERE INTENTIONALLY. SINCE THERE IS NOTHING STRUCTURAL TO FILL IT WATER CAN GET IN WHEN THE UNDERCOATING DEVELOPS CRACKS. ONCE WATER GETS IN, IT JUST LAYS UNDER THE ASPHALT INSULATION AND BETWEEN THE SHEET METAL AND ROTS FROM INSIDE OUT. I HAD A WARRANTY ON IT AND THE DEALERS I HAVE TAKEN IT TO, MANY TIMES FOR MANY JOBS AND MAINTENANCE, ETC. NEVER ONCE MENTIONED IT. I JUST RECENTLY WAS MADE AWARE OF IT AND NISSAN WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP. THEY ARE WELL AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT UNLESS MADE TO.
MY CAR WOULD NOT START NORMALLY. IMMEDIATELY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON. HAD A CODE WITH A FAILED CRANKSHAFT SENSOR. NISSAN WAS INFORMED AND RUDELY REFUSED TO HELP WITH THE REPLACEMENT EVEN THOUGH IT HAD A RECALL ON IT. SAID MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED. SEEMS LIKE NOBODY'S VIN # WAS INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I REPLACED THE SENSOR BUT IT COST ME $170.00 FOR SOMETHING THAT NISSAN SHOULD HAVE HAPPILY HANDLED. NEVER BUY A NISSAN. MY FLOORBOARD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE IS ALSO COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT. THERE IS A HOLE IN MY FLOORBOARD. SAME STORY PAGE AFTER PAGE OF COMPLAINTS CAN BEEN SEEN ONLINE WITH THIS PROBLEM. CAR HAS BEEN SERVICED AT UFTRING NISSAN IN PEORIA, ILLINOIS AND NOT ONCE DID ANYONE BRING MY ATTENTION TO THE FACT THAT THIS CAR HAD RUSTED ALL THE WAY THROUGH FROM THE INSIDE OUT. A FEW YEARS AGO I WAS ALERTED BY MY MECHANIC THAT THE PASSENGER FLOOR BOARDS WERE RUSTING AT AN ADVANCED RATE. MY MECHANIC SAID THE REST OF THE CAR WAS IN GREAT SHAPE AND IT WAS A SHAME THE FLOOR WAS FAILING PREMATURELY. HE RECOMMENDED I TAKE IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THERE WAS A SERVICE RECALL OR A SERVICE BULLETIN. I STOPPED BY THE DEALERSHIP ON A SATURDAY AND THE SERVICE WRITER LOOKED AT THE FLOOR OF MY CAR AND SAID THAT HE HAD NEVER SEEN SUCH A THING ON ANY NISSAN. HE SAID THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO AND RECOMMENDED WE CONTACT NISSAN. WE CONTACT NISSAN AND NEVER EVEN GOT A RESPONSE. AT THE TIME WE SEARCHED THE INTERNET AND FOUND NUMEROUS PEOPLE REPORTING THE ISSUE. SO I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT NISSAN HAD NEVER HEARD OF THE ISSUE. MY MECHANIC HAS KEPT AN EYE ON THE RUST WHEN I AM IN FOR SERVICE AND HE HAS MENTIONED IT IS GETTING WORST AT A RAPID RATE AND THAT IT IS BECOMING A SAFETY ISSUE. I FEEL LIKE THIS DESIGN DEFECT AND NISSAN SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE. *TR

APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS LATER WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC STOP, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND THE SPEED SENSOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE REPLACED THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR HIMSELF BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. PASSENGER SIDE UNDERBODY RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH. *JS
WHILE DRIVING THE CLUTCH PEDAL WILL LOOSE ALL PRESSURE AND WILL FALL TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE MUST BE SHUT OFF AND LEFT PRIOR THE PRESSURE BUILDING BACK UP IN THE CLUTCH. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS THE DRIVER IS UNABLE TO SHIFT GEARS OR PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL. THIS IS A NOTORIOUS PROBLEM WITH ALL NISSAN ALTIMA SE-R WITH MANUAL GEAR BOXES. THIS PROBLEM WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND GET SOMEONE KILLED. TT

SHE LATER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V527000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE FAILURE PROGRESSIVELY BECAME WORSE AFTER THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT A REMEDY WAS NOT AVAILABLE FOR THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,545.
I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA SL AND TOOK MY CAR INTO CONICELLI NISSAN BACK IN FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR FOR AN ORDER CHANGE AND SOMETHING ELSE MINOR. CONICELLI NISSAN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT THE FLOOR PAN WAS RUSTED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT. I WAS TOLD TO CONTACT THE BODY SHOP OF CONICELLI WHICH I DID AND THEY IN TURN TOLD ME THAT THEY CAN NOT DO THE REPAIR BECAUSE OF THE RUST AND THEY DIDN'T WANT TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABILITY FOR IT AND PERHAPS RISK A LAW SUIT FURTHER DOWN THE LINE. MY COMPLAINT IS THE CAR IS ONLY 8 YEARS OLD WITH 60,000 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE TAKEN IT TO TWO DIFFERENT BODY SHOPS AND THEY ARE AMAZED THAT THE FLOOR PAN HAS RUSTED ALREADY BEING THAT THE CAR IS ONLY 7 YEARS OLD AND IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. THIS SEAMS LIKE A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH NISSAN CARS AND IT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE AND THE CUSTOMERS WANT ANSWERS NOW. IT WILL COST ME AT LEAST $1,000 TO GET THIS TAKEN CARE OF AND I DON'T HAVE THAT KIND OF MONEY. I NEED SOMEONE TO CONTACT ME TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS ONGOING ISSUE. *JS
AFTER HEARING ON THE TODAY SHOW THIS MORNING COMPLAINTS AGAINST NISSAN REGARDING UNDER CARRIAGE RUST I THOUGHT I WOULD FILE A COMPLAINT AS WELL. IN APPROX. 2012 WHILE WALKING TOWARDS MY CAR I NOTICED SOMETHING HANGING FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY PASSENGER SIDE. UNDER FURTHER INSPECTION I NOTICED SEVERE RUSTING AND IT HAD ACTUALLY RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH THE FLOOR BOARD. THE ONLY THING HOLDING MY FEET IN THE CAR WAS THE CARPET. I IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED NISSAN AND WAS TOLD OH WELL SO SAD NOT GONNA HELP ME BECAUSE THE CAR WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I HAD PRETTY MUCH ALWAYS HAD THE CAR SERVICED REGULARLY AT UFTRING NISSAN IN PEORIA ILLINOIS. THIS WAS NEVER MENTIONED IN THE 4 YEARS PRIOR TO ME IN THE MANY TRIPS I MADE FOR ROUTINE OIL CHANGES AND SEVERAL STRUT REPAIRS ON THIS CAR. YES I HAVE HAD STRUT ISSUES WITH THIS CAR FROM DAY ONE. THEY HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT LEAST 6 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN 2008. ANYHOW, I TOOK THE CAR TO MY BODY GUY AND HE REPLACED. THE FLOORBOARD FOR 500 BUCKS AND SAID THE DRIVER SIDE IS HEADED IN THE SAME DIRECTION. AT THIS TIME I KNOW OF NO ISSUES WITH RUSTING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. I PERSONALLY CHECK EVERY TIME THE CAR IS LIFTED. HOWEVER IF IT IS RUSTING FROM THE INSIDE OUT IT IS MORE THAN POSSIBLE THAT BY THE TIME I COULD VISUALLY SEE DAMAGE IT WILL BE COMPLETELY THROUGH WITH CARPET BEING THE ONLY THING KEEPING ME INSIDE. I ABSOLUTELY WANT NISSAN TO NOT ONLY PAY FOR THE FIRST REPLACEMENT BUT FIX THE PROBLEM SO I AM NOT PARANOID ABOUT THE SEAT FALLING THROUGH WHEN I AM DRIVING ON THE ROAD. I PURCHASED MY CAR IN JANUARY OF 2006 USED WITH ABOUT 3,800 MILES. I'VE TAKEN MY VEHICLE SEVERAL TIME TO NISSAN DEALER FOR MY 15,000 MILE SERVICE AND ALSO THEY REPLACE MY SUSPENSION ON A RECALL. MY CAR'S "SERVICE ENGINE SOON" LIGHT INITIALLY CAME ON SUNDAY, JANUARY 29TH. SHORTLY AFTER, MY CAR WAS BEGINNING TO JERK WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND FELT AS IF THE ENGINE WAS SPUTTERING WHILE ON LOCAL ROADS. WE TOOK IT TO AUTO ZONE FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AND TWO ISSUES WERE DISCOVERED: THE SPEED SIGNAL CIRCUIT AS WELL AS THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR HAS BEEN MALFUNCTIONING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. AFTER SOME RESEARCH, WE FOUND THAT SEVERAL THOUSAND 2005 NISSAN ALTIMAS WERE RECALLED DUE TO THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR MALFUNCTIONING WITH A POSSIBILITY OF DAMAGE AND INJURY. WE CONTACTED NISSAN VILLAGE AND WERE INFORMED THAT MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT ON THE LIST OF RECALLED VEHICLES. I HAVE OWNED QUITE A FEW CARS AND I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PART NEEDING TO BE REPLACED. MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE $300-$400 TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE AND I BELIEVE, EVEN THOUGH THIS RECALL WAS INITIATED BACK IN DECEMBER 2007, THESE REPAIRS SHOULD BE COVERED AS THIS IS NOT A MAINTENANCE ISSUE BUT RATHER A SERIOUS OVERALL DEFECT IN THIS PARTICULAR MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR. ABOUT 2 YRS AGO THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN MY NISSAN. I TOOK IT FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AND IT CAME UP WITH TWO CODES THAT AT THIS POINT I DON'T REMEMBER. HOWEVER, WHAT I WAS TOLD IS THAT I NEEDED MY CRANKSHAFT SENSOR REPLACED. I CHECKED ONLINE FOR INFORMATION ABOUT THIS SENSOR AND I CAME ACROSS A RECALL FOR THIS SENSOR. AROUND THE SAME TIME MY HEADLIGHTS STARTED BURNING OUT BULBS ALSO. I ALSO NOTICED THERE WAS A RECALL ON A HEADLIGHT ISSUE. I CONTACTED A LOCAL DEALERSHIP TO CHECK MY VIN TO SEE IF I QUALIFIED FOR THE RECALL AND I WAS TOLD MY VIN WAS SUPPOSEDLY ONE OF THE IMPACTED ONES. WHICH IS TOO COINCIDENTAL. MY CAR STALLS WHILE RUNNING AND AT TIMES WILL NOT START. AND I SAY WILL, BECAUSE, I BROUGHT IT IN TO 2 DIFFERENT SHOPS FOR REPLACEMENT AND NEITHER COULD FIND A COMPATIBLE SENSOR. THEY EVEN ORDERED ONE FROM NISSAN AND IT DID NOT FIT AND WERE UNABLE TO FIX IT. THEY APOLOGIZED AND SAID THAT I WOULD BE ABLE TO DRIVE IT BUT WOULD EVENTUALLY NEED TO SOMEHOW REPLACE IT. THE AIR BAG LIGHT IN MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA COMES ON WHEN THE CAR IS STARTED AND BLINKS WHILE DRIVING. I HAD THE CAR REPAIRED BACK IN 2009. THE PROBLEM IS NOW HAPPENING AGAIN, SO I HAD AN ESTIMATE AT THE NEAREST NISSAN DEALERSHIP. IN ORDER TO BE REPAIRED THEY SAID, I WOULD HAVE TO SHOW THERE HAD BEEN A PREVIOUS WORK ORDER IN ARRANGE FOR THE REPAIR TO BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY? I CALLED THE OTHER NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHERE THE REPAIR HAPPENED AND APPARENTLY, THERE IS NO PAPER TRAIL THE WORK ORDER ACTUALLY OCCURRED? THE COPY OF MY PAPERWORK SHOWS THERE WAS A REPORT AND A CUSTOM PART ORDERED, BUT NO ACTUAL RECEIPT SHOWING THIS HAPPENED. I CALLED THE PARTS DEPARTMENT THAT SHOWS A CUSTOM PART WAS ORDERED, HOWEVER, IT WAS NEVER RETURNED AND IT IS NO LONGER IN THE PARTS DEPARTMENT.. MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5 4 CYL QRD25 ENGINE HAS HAD CONSTANT PROBLEMS INCLUDING EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION WHICH LEAD TO CYLINDER 1 THROWING A ROD. RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEMS AND FOUND 1000'S OF OTHER PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. PURCHASED A REPLACEMENT ENGINE WITH 60,000 MILES AND THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING. NO OIL LEAKS, JUST USES A QUART OF OIL/PER 60 TO 100 MILES. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS SITUATION AND HAS REPLACED SEVERAL ENGINES. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN A DRIVEWAY FOR 6 HOURS IN 10 DEGRE WEATHER. IT WAS REQUIRED TO MOVE THE CAR TO ALLOW ANOTHER VEHICLE TO LEAVE WHEN THE NISSAN WAS DRIVEN FORWARD TO RE-PARK THE VEHICLE AND THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED THE PEDDLE WAS ROCK HARD AND NO BRAKES WERE AVAILABLE CAUSING A COLLISION WITH A GARAGE DOOR. THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A VACUUM VALVE, INTEGRAL WITH A VACUUM HOSE. THE DEALER TESTED THE CAR AT 7:30AM ON 1/16/2012 WHEN THE CAR HAD BEEN SITTING FOR OVER 24 HOURS IN 23 DEGREE WEATHER, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS HARD (HOWEVER NOT ROCK SOLID) ONCE THE PEDAL WAS PUMPED TWICE THE BRAKES WORKED ACCORDINGLY. THE THEORY WAS THE VALVE WAS NOT FUNCTIOING IN THE COLD WEATHER. THE DEALER TESTED THE THEORY BY REMOVING THE FAULTY PART AND PLACING IT IN THE COLD WEATHER FOR APPROXIMATLEY 30 MINUTES AND REINSTALLED PART BACK INTOT HE CAR AND CREATED A SIMILAR SCENARIO WHERE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS HARD WITH LIMITED BRAKES (TEMPERATURE WAS 22 DEGREES). THE PART HAS BEEN REPLACED AND APPEARS TO HAVE SOLVED THE ISSUE. I AM DISSAPOINTED THAT THE NISSAN ALTIMA CAN POTENTIALLY HAVE BRAKES IN EXTREME COLD WEATHER AS I LIVE IN A COLD CLIMATE. *TT

BEGINNING IN DECEMBER 2011 I NOTICED THAT THE PLASTIC ON THE BUCKLES WHERE THE SEAT BELT CONNECTS WAS DISCOLORED AND STARTING TO CRACK. I ALSO HAD ISSUES WITH THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT NOT RETRACTING CORRECTLY AND ONE REAR SEATBELT FRAYING.THIS PROMPTED ME TO CALL NISSAN AT THEIR 1-800 NUMBER AND RECEIVED A FILE NUMBER. I WAS TOLD TO TAKE THIS NUMBER TO A DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE CAR INSPECTED. I DID THIS AT THE EARLIEST POSSIBLE TIME SINCE IT IT LAW THAT I WEAR MY SEATBELT AND THIS IS A SAFETY SYSTEM OF THE CAR. I WENT IN TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT ON JAN 6, 2012. THE DEALERSHIP, FRANK FLETCHER NISSAN IN JOPLIN, MO WAS NICE BUT STATED THEY SAW THE ISSUE WITH THE SEATBELT RETRACTING AND OTHER ISSUES WITH THE BELTS, BUT COULD NOT REPLACE THEM TILL THEY FAILED COMPLETELY DUE TO WHAT NISSAN HAD STATED. I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO LEAVE WITH THE ISSUE NOT FIXED AND WAS TOLD TO CALL NISSAN TO VOICE MY COMPLAINT. I USED MY FILE NUMBER AND WAS ASSIGNED A REGIONAL SPECIALIST. SHE WORKED WITH ME UNTIL SHE FOUND OUT THAT I WAS TAKING MY CAR TO A DEALER NOT IN HER REGION. AT THAT TIME I WAS ASSIGNED A NEW SPECIALIST AND HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM HIM SINCE 1/7/12. I HAVE CALLED AND LEFT VOICEMAILS AND ALSO TALKED TO OTHER REPRESENTATIVES AND THEY SAY HE HAS CALLED ME BACK AND LEFT VOICEMAIL. THE CAR WOULD ROUTINELY BUCK, AND HICCUP AS IF IT WERE TRYING TO SHUT ITSELF OFF. I CALLED THE NISSAN DEALER, HAVE THE ECM REPROGRAMMED, AS THEY THOUGHT THAT WOULD BE THE ISSUE. GOT IT DONE, AND A DAY LATER, SAME THING HAPPENED, MY CAR SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. I GOT IT RUNNING, AND THEN AS I GOT NEARER HOME, THE CAR SHUT DOWN AGAIN AT AN INTERSECTION. I WAS LUCKY I DIDN'T GET IN A WRECK. FURIOUSLY, I CALLED THE NISSAN DEALER, AND BROUGHT IT BACK IN. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, IT WAS NOTED THE CAM/CRANKSHAFT SENSORS WERE BAD. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE BY NISSAN, AS THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR 2000 - 2003 MODELS OF THEIR CARS IN THE PAST. I GOT THEM REPLACED AND PAID OUT OF POCKET TO DO SO. I CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY WERE DISRESPECTFUL AND NOT HELPFUL AT ALL. THEY KNOW THAT THE ISSUE IS STILL ONGOING WITH THEIR VEHICLES. ITS A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION AND SHOULD NOT BE UP TO THE CONSUMER TO FIX THE ISSUE AS ITS A FLAW IN THEIR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. I PURCHASED MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5S USED IN NOVEMBER OF 2006. IT HAD APPROXIMATELY 33,000 MILES ON IT. FIVE YEARS LATER, THE CAR HAS 101,000 MILES ON IT AND THE PASSENGER SIDE FLOORBOARD HAS MAJOR RUST DAMAGE; SO MUCH THAT YOU CAN ACTUALLY TOUCH THE INTERIOR RUBBER FLOORBOARD OF THE CAR FROM THE OUTSIDE. I HAVE YET TO TAKE IT TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP, SINCE I KNOW MY WARRANTY IS EXPIRED, BUT I HAVE HAD MANY PROFESSIONALS TAKE A LOOK AND THEY ARE RENDERED SPEECHLESS OVER THE DAMAGE. I HAVE BEEN TOLD NUMEROUS TIMES THAT THE DAMAGE IS OBVIOUSLY A FACTORY DEFECT, A CAR THAT'S ONLY A FEW YEARS OLD SHOULD NOT HAVE THAT KIND OF DAMAGE AND THAT IT WOULD COST WELL OVER $1000.00 TO REPAIR. I HAVE MAINTAINED MY VEHICLE WELL AND HAVEN'T HAD ANY OTHER MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH IT; JUST THE USUAL REPLACEMENTS. I'VE PUT A NEW BATTERY IN IT RECENTLY, I'VE HAD THE BRAKES REPLACED TWICE, ROTORS ONCE; IT CURRENTLY NEEDS A NEW SERPENTINE BELT, LOWER BALL JOINT AND THE MUFFLER IS SHOWING RUST, SO THAT WILL BE A REPLACEMENT IN THE NEAR FUTURE. I'VE READ ABOUT PEOPLE WHO LIVE IN COLD, SNOWY AREAS HAVING THESE PROBLEMS AS WELL, DUE TO SALT AND CHEMICAL EXPOSURE. I WASH AND DRY MY CAR AFTER EVERY SNOW, INCLUDING THE UNDERCARRIAGE, TO REMOVE THESE CHEMICALS. I DO NOT PARK IN WET AREAS, GRASS OR DIRT. MY CAR HAS ALWAYS BEEN ON CONCRETE. NOTHING IN MY CAR LEAKS, I'VE NEVER HAD STANDING WATER IN IT, I'VE NEVER HAD WET FLOORS. THIS IS A DEFECT THAT NISSAN NEEDS TO TAKE FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN NORTH AMERICA REGARDING RUST DAMAGE ON MY 2005 ALTIMA 3.5 SE W/67,000 MI. AFTER BEING REFERRED TO MY DEALERSHIP FOR AN INVESTIGATION A REP WITH NISSAN REGIONAL CONSUMER AFFAIRS SAYS THAT UNFORTUNATELY MY WARRANTY DOESN'T COVER RUST AFTER 5 YEARS. I ASKED IF IT'''S NISSAN'''S POSITION THAT I WAS NEGLIGENT IN MAINTAINING MY VEHICLE. HOW ELSE WOULD YOU EXPLAIN A 6 YR LOW-MILEAGE CAR HAVING EXTENSIVE RUST ISSUES? WOULD THEY AT LEAST ADMIT TO PARTIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND HELP WITH THE COST OF REPAIRS? I EXPLAINED HOW SHOCKED I WAS WHEN I SAW ALL THE COMPLAINTS, FORUMS, AND BLOGS REGARDING THIS ISSUE. THERE SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM EITHER WITH THE MATERIAL (DURASTEEL) OR THE MANUFACTURING PROCESS OF ALL THE GEN 3 AND 4 ALTIMAS THAT ALLOWS WATER TO INFILTRATE BETWEEN THE METAL ON THE FLOORBOARDS CAUSING PREMATURE RUST THROUGH. THERE ARE PLASTIC PLUGS THAT BECOME DISLODGED OR ARE NOT INSTALLED CORRECTLY. NISSAN WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND HELP WITH THE REPAIRS. NISSAN HAS BEEN REQUIRED TO EXTEND THE WARRANTY ON THE REAR SUBFRAME SO THEY ARE AWARE OF ISSUE WITH THE METALS THEY'RE USING. REGARDLESS, I WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER NISSAN. ROUGH IDLE. 3 YEARS AGO IT DID THE SAME THING AND I HAD THE 0'2 SENSORS REPLACED AND THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR REPLACED. I DRIVE IT IN TOWN SO IN THE 3 YEARS I HAVE PUT ABOUT 25,000 MILES ON IT. THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT IS ON NOW AND NISSAN TOLD ME THAT I NEED TO TAKE IT TO A DEALERSHIP AND PAY THEM TO CHECK OUT THE ENGINE AND SEND NISSAN THE RESULTS AND THEY "MAY" REIMBURSE ME FOR THE COST OF CHECKING IT OUT. I JUST REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS LAST WEEK BECAUSE I WAS TOLD THEM NEEDED REPLACED. IT RAN FINE FOR A LITTLE WHILE NOW BACK TO SAME THINGS. I HAVE JUST DISCOVERED THAT MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA IS RUSTING UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE AND ALSO UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE. UNDER THE DRIVER SIDE THE RUSTING IS WORSE, I CAN JUST PEEL OFF THE THE RUSTING AREA WITH MY BARE HANDS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN SMOKING AND FLAMES WERE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS NOTIFIED WHO CAME AND EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THERE WERE NO INJURIES BUT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE WAS UNKNOWN AND A FIRE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTO BODY SHOP. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FIRE WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000.

SO, I CONTINUED TO DRIVE MY "OCCASIONALLY NOISY" ALTIMA FOR ANOTHER 58000 MILES. JUST PAID THE THING OFF 2 MONTHS BEFORE MY MAJOR ISSUE OCCURRED. I APPARENTLY WAS A FORTUNATE NISSAN OWNER (EVEN THOUGH I DON'T FEEL LIKE IT)--BECAUSE APPARENTLY ALTIMAS AND MAXIMAS ARE NOTORIOUS FOR TIMING CHAIN FAILURE. SEEMS THE CHAIN GETS A LITTLE "USED" AND BEGINS MAKING THE NOISE I EXPERIENCED, AND THEN CAN ULTIMATELY COMPLETELY FAIL. NEEDLESS TO SAY...I HAVE A $2,000.00+ REPAIR ON MY HANDS.THE MECHANIC I AM HIRING SAID THAT MOST NISSANS WITH TIMING CHAIN ISSUES FAIL LONG BEFORE MINE DID (MILEAGE-WISE!).MY PROBLEM IS WITH NISSAN, BECAUSE NISSAN IS AWARE OF THESE TIMING CHAIN FAILURES, AND DOES NOTHING ABOUT THEM.
