RECENTLY (07/10/10) MY CAR JUST MADE A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE BLEW A BIG SMOKE ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65MPH--THE FIRE MEN AND POLICE THAT SHOWED UP BELIEVE IT THREW A ROD BECAUSE IT LEAKED OIL EVERYWHERE,HAD THE OIL CHANGED EXACTLY 5 DAYS PRIOR. *TR
BOUGHT A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA, 4 CY. 2.5L ON JUNE 18TH 2010 I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR,THE DEALER GAVE ME A DISCOUNT TO GET THIS FIX BECAUSE THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM DEALER ALSO TOLD ME IF I GET THIS FIX THE CAR WOULD BE WORKING FINE. I DID REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR,BUT THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT KEPT COMING ON.. IT READS THE SAME ERROR EVERY TIME, CRANKSHAFT SENSOR. RECENTLY (07/10/10) MY CAR JUST STALLED ON HIGHWAY MADE A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE BLEW A BIG SMOKE --THE FIRE MEN AND POLICE THAT SHOWED UP BELIEVE IT THREW A ROD BECAUSE IT LEAKS OIL EVERYWHERE..AND IS NOT DRIVABLE.NISSAN STATES THEY RESET THE (ECM) BUT MY VIN# ISNT IN THE RECALL FOR THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR SO I WOULD HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR THAT.I THEN WAS ABLE TO GET ONLINE AND SEE THAT ALOT OF NISSAN OWNERS WERE TOLD THE SAME EXACT INFORMATION THE (ECM) WOULD BE RESET FOR FREE BUT YOU WOULD HAVE TO COME OUT OF POCKET FOR THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR TO BE FIXED,IF THIS AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS ARE IDENTICAL..THEN REALLY IT BOILS DOWN TO NISSAN CORP IS IGNORING AND DOESN'T CARE THAT THEIR CRANKSHAFT SENSOR IS FAILING ALONG WITH THE (ECM) AND BECAUSE OF THIS SOME LIVES ARE GONNA BE LOST ..AS ME AND MY 2 KIDS FACED A STALL ON HIGHWAY I75 WITH MANY PEOPLE GOING WELL OVER 70MPH..WE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE APPROACHING A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT HAD TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND BACK ON IN ORDER FOR IT TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED EIGHT TIMES. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL AND THAT HER VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A BODY SHOP WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR FAILED AND IT WAS REPAIRED AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5L. THE ENGINE LIGHT IS JUST ON. I READ THE CODE AND IT SHOWS IT IS A PROBLEM OF MY CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. I CHECK IT ONLINE, AND FIND THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM ON 2007 (THE CAMPAIGN NUMBER IS 07V527000). SO I CONTACTED NISSAN COMPANY, AND PROVIDED MY VIN#. BUT THEY REPLY THAT MY VIN# DOESN'T MATCH THE RECALL LIST. THE FACT IS THE VEHICLE MODEL THE RECALL MENTIONED AND THE PROBLEM HAPPENED ON MY CAR ARE EXACTLY SAME WITH THE DESCRIPTION OF THAT RECALL, HOWEVER THEY JUST REFUSE IT. *TR
AFTER DRIVING IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC ON A VERY HOT DAY, THE CLUTCH PEDAL LOST PRESSURE AND WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO USE AND SHIFT GEARS. THE PEDAL LOST ALL BUT THE LAST AMOUNT OF PRESSURE. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT. ALWAYS OCCURS IN WARM, HUMID WEATHER AND HEAVY USAGE. COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IF ALL PRESSURE IS LOST AND SHIFTING IS IMPOSSIBLE. BEFORE I REPLACED MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA 3.5 SE'S ENGINE, TRANSMISSION, INJECTORS, MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR, THROTTLE BODY, AND CLUTCH, I WAS HAVING ISSUES WITH THE CLUTCH LOSING PRESSURE. AFTER TAKING THE CAR TO NISSAN I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW CLUTCH. I HAD IT REPLACED ALONG WITH EVERYTHING ELSE SHORTLY AFTER WITH OTHER MAJOR ENGINE REPAIRS DUE TO A BLOWN MOTOR AT 100,000 MILES. NOW MY CAR IS BACK IN THE SHOP AND AFTER TWO MONTHS WITH THE SAME ISSUE AMONG OTHER ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. I LOST PRESSURE AGAIN YESTERDAY AND DROPPED MY CAR OFF THIS MORNING. THEY WANT $370.00 TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH SLAVE CYLINDER. AFTER READING ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS, I FEEL THAT THEY ARE DEAD ON TRACK WITH THIS BEING A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS ISN'T THE FIRST TIME ITS HAPPENED TO ME EITHER. WHY HASN'T THIS ISSUE BEEN RESOLVED BY NISSAN, OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A TREND. DO I HAVE TO GET IN AN ACCIDENT WITH MY KIDS IN THE CAR BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT THIS? MAYBE IT WILL BE YOUR FAMILY WE CRASH INTO?!! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES, THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND FOUND THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR HAD FAILED. THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE HOWEVER, HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V223000: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 113,000. UPDATED 10/27/10. *LJ
I OWN A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA, AND I RECENTLY TOOK THE CAR IN BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING SEEMED TO BE GOING OUT. THE STEERING IS VERY DIFFICULT ONCE YOU TURN THE WHEEL MORE THAN 1/4 TO THE RIGHT OR LEFT. WHEN THE WEATHER IS WARMER, THE PROBLEM IS NOT AS SERIOUS; BUT IN COLD WEATHER, THE CAR BECOMES VERY HARD TO STEER. THE NISSAN SERVICE DEPARTMENT INDICATED THE U-JOINT ON THE LOWER SECTION OF THE STEERING COLUMN IS GOING BAD AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I DID A SEARCH TO SEE IF OTHER OWNERS WERE HAVING A SIMILAR PROBLEM, AND I FOUND SEVERAL BLOGS INDICATING OTHER OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM AT APPROXIMATELY THE SAME MILEAGE (75,000 MILES). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD SPORADICALLY HESITATE AND STALL WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH AND ABOVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR FACILITY NUMEROUS TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE 02 SENSOR, CRANKSHAFT SENSOR AND THE CAM-SHAFT SENSOR BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO ADVISED THAT THE CONTACTS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V527000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 107,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO REPAIRED THE CRANK SHAFT POSITION SENSOR. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
2005 ALTIMA - WHEN MOVING FORWARD AFTER STOPPING, VEHICLE WILL JERK FORWARD. I MUST IMMEDIATELY TAKE MY FOOT OFF THE GAS PEDAL. THE OCCURS ONLY IN LOW GEAR, AFTER A STOP, AND OCCURS 3 TO 4 TIMES A WEEK. *TR

NISSAN HAVE A CRANK POSITION SENSOR RECALL ( 07V-527) BUT WILL NOT HONOR MY ISSUE DUE TO THE VIN NUMBER NOT FALLING IN RECALL CATEGORY. I HAVE BOUGHT BRAND NEW 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA 3.5SE IN OCTOBER OF 2004. JUST YESTERDAY DURING MY OIL CHANGE I HAVE NOTICED A HOLE UNDERNEATH THE CAR AND RUSTED AREA IN THE DIAMETER OF A FOOT OR SO. FLOORING RUSTED AND IT WAS OBVIOUSLY RESULT OF NOT FORCED DAMAGE BUT DEFECTIVE MATERIALS USED TO MAKE THE CAR FLOORING. I AM FINDING FORUMS AND LOADS OF COMPLAINTS THAT RIGHT AFTER THE WARRANTY IS EXPIRED CAR'S FLOORING SIMPLY START TO RUST. THE PAINT ON MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA WHICH IS PEARL WHITE IS PEELING OFF ON EACH SIDE OF THE HOOD. MY CAR IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY 89,000 MILES AND NISSAN WILL NOT DO ANYTHING TO HELP ME WITH THIS DEFECT. I WAS TOLD THAT THE NHTSA ARE GREAT PEOPLE AND MAYBE THEY COULD HELP ME. *TR

HE WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR SEAL HAD FAILED. THE SENSOR WAS REPLACED AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,800 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,914.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS SITTING IDLE IN FRONT OF HIS RESIDENCE, WITH THE ENGINE ON, THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER ADVISED THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM A HOLE IN THE SIDE OF THE OIL PAN. THE CONTACT CONFIRMED THE VEHICLE DID NOT EXHIBIT ANY SIGNS OF AN OIL LEAK. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 100,000.

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE INSURANCE COMPANY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND CONCLUDED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY POOR MAINTENANCE. THE CONTACT WILL CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 103,000.

IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WAS CONSUMING EXCESSIVE AMOUNTS OF OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC TOLD THE CONTACT THAT THERE WERE NO SIGNS OF AN OIL LEAK AND COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CONTACT TO REPLACE THE ENGINE AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO WAS NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE BUT RECOMMENDED HAVING THE ENGINE REPLACED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS A POSSIBILITY OF AN INTERNAL ENGINE FAILURE WHERE THE CARBON IN THE ENGINE OIL WAS DAMAGING THE PISTONS. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA FRONT WINDOWS ROLL DOWN WHILE I AM AWAY FROM THE CAR. I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THIS HAPPENS, BUT I AM WORRIED MY CAR WILL GET STOLEN. IT HAS BEEN RAINING OFTEN AND THE WOOD GRAIN IS DAMAGED, THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE IS EXPOSED TO CRIMINALS AND NATURES ELEMENTS. *TR

I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. ON MY WAY BACK HOME ON THE HIGHWAY, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET IT CHECKED OUT. THEY SAID MY CRANK SENSOR IS FAULTY. NOW THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR 2002-03 ALTIMAS, BUT THE 2004-2006 ALTIMAS ARE KNOWN TO HAVE THIS PROBLEMS. I HAVE BEEN READING REPORTS ON CONSUMERAFFAIRS.COM AND IT SEEMS LIKE EVERY OWNER OF A 2002-2006 NISSAN ALTIMA IS HAVING THIS PROBLEM. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BUT REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT (ACCORDING TO OTHER CONSUMERS THAT COMPLAINED TO NISSAN). AS A CONSEQUENCE OF THIS FAILURE, THE CAR CAN STOP IN MOTION. SEVERAL OF THE CONSUMERS HAD THEIR CARS STOP ON THE HIGHWAY WHICH CAN BE FATAL. THE ONLY SYMPTOMS ARE JERKING AND SHAKING OF THE CAR FOLLOWED BY STALLING. THE REPAIR COSTS AROUND $250, BUT IT IS NOT A GURANTEED FIX. MANY CONSUMERS HAD THEM HAPPEN NUMEROUS TIMES, AND HAD TO FIX THEM WITH THEIR OWN MONEY EVERY TIME. I HOPE NHTSA TAKES PROPER ACTION AGAINST NISSAN AND FORCE THEM TO ACKNOWLEDGE THEIR MISTAKE AND ISSUE A RECALL. THANK YOU.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE FELT AS IF IT SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR AND COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ONTO THE SHOULDER AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH. ONCE AGAIN SHE COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE COMPUTER AND NOT THE CRANK SHAFT SENSOR. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS INFORMED THAT HER VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 07V527000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 72,980. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 73,010.
THE CLUTCH PEDAL IN MY 2005 NISSAN ALTIMA IS ENGAGING BUT LATELY WHILE DRIVING, THE CLUTCH SUDDENLY PRESSES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR WHILE I ATTEMPT TO SHIFT GEAR. THE PEDAL WON'T COME BACK ON ITS OWN, AND SHIFTING BECOMES DIFFICULT IF NOT IMPOSSIBLE. I ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT MANEUVERING MY FOOT TO UNSTICK THE PEDAL FROM THE FLOOR, WHILE IN TRAFFIC THE OTHER DAY. THEN, IT SUDDENLY WENT BACK TO ITS TYPICAL FUNCTION AND OPERATED SMOOTHLY. I'VE EXPERIENCED TWO OF THESE OCCURRENCES WITHIN THE PAST 3 DAYS ; THE CAR HAS BEEN FINE UP TO THIS POINT AND HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED ( 83,000 MILES; ONE OWNER ). *TR
2005 NISSAN ALTIMA - CRANKSHAFT SENSOR. MY 2005 PRE-OWNED NISSAN ALTIMA JUST EXPERIENCED CRANK/START PROBLEMS YESTERDAY. AFTER COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS WERE PERFORMED, THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE ECM AND THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WERE DEFECTIVE. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THE 2005 NISSAN MODELS HAD A RECALL ON THE ECM MODULES AND THE CRANKSHAFTS. THEY ADVISED ME TO CONTACT NISSAN TO ENSURE THIS HAD NOT BEEN PREVIOUSLY CORRECTED DURING THE ORIGINAL RECALL. I CONTACTED NISSAN TO FIND OUT THAT IT HAD NEVER BEEN CORRECTED. NISSAN REP DIVYA CHEERAN ADVISED ME THAT THE ECM AND FRAME WERE ON RECALL HOWEVER THE CRANKSHAFT WAS NOT. I INFORMED HER THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAD ALREADY INFORMED ME OF THE RECALL FOR THE CRANKSHAFT. SHE INSISTED THE DEALERSHIP WAS WRONG AND THERE WAS NO RECALL OF ANY CRANKSHAFT ON ANY NISSAN VEHICLES. I TOLD HER THAT I WAS LOOKING AT A CONSUMER AFFAIRS REPORT ON THE INTERNET AS WELL AS THE REPORT/RECALL NOTICE WITH NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC AND SAFETY ADMINISTRATION. SHE STATED THAT ONCE THE ECM WAS FIXED IT WOULD RESOLVE THE CRANKING AND SHUTTING OFF PROBLEMS I WAS EXPERIENCING. I ADVISED HER THAT THE MECHANIC AT THE DEALERSHIP HAD ALREADY CONFIRMED THAT WOULD NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM WITH THE CRANKSHAFT AND I WOULD LIKE FOR NISSAN TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE RECALL AND FIX THE ECM AND CRANKSHAFT. IT WAS PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE AND RECORD THAT THERE WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS AND COULD BE POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS TO MY HEALTH AND THE HEALTH OF MY NEWBORN WHO FREQUENTLY TRAVELS WITH ME. THE FLOOR PAN OF THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE RUSTED OUT AFTER ONLY 5 YEARS OF OWNING THE VEHICLE. IT IS NOW SO BAD THAT YOU CAN PUSH YOUR FOOT RIGHT THROUGH THE FLOOR PAN OF THE VEHICLE TO THE PAVEMENT BELOW. I GO TO GREAT LENGTHS TO TAKE CARE OF MY VEHICLES AND EVEN RINSE THE UNDERBODY OF THE CAR AFTER STORMS TO REMOVE THE SALT. I'VE NEVER HAD A CAR RUST OUT SO QUICKLY AND IN SUCH A . *TR
MY NISSAN ALTIMA 2005 IS CONSUMING EXCESS OF OIL. 5 LITERS DURING 6 HOURS DRIVING CAUSING OVERHEATING THE MOTOR OR POSSIBLE FIRE. DURING MY TRIP A HAD TO REDUCE THE SPEED AND STOP ON THE HIGHWAY. MY CAR HAD TO TOWARD TO THE DEALER BUT THEY JUST SAY THIS ISSUE WAS A DESIGN ISSUE ON THIS ALTIMA MOTOR MODEL. THIS HAPPEN WHEN CAR IS DRIVING TO HEIGHT SPEED. OIL CAN NOT FLOW PROPERLY THROUGH MOTOR AND IT GOES OUT THROUGH AIR DUCT. COVER OF MOTOR WAS DISASSEMBLED IN SEVERAL HOLES WERE MADE INTERNALLY TO LET OIL FLOW PROPERLY. *TR
THERE ARE SEVERAL PROBLEMS : - VEHICLE LOSES ENGINE POWER ON HIGHWAY (CRUISE SET TO 65, DROOPS TO 55 AND THEN PICKS UP AGAIN) - VEHICLE HAS STALLED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS - VEHICLE HAS TROUBLE STARTING AFTER BEING TURNED OFF FOR A SHORT (LESS THAN 30 MINS) PERIOD OF TIME. THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED BY MEINEKE AS A FAILED CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. A RECALL AFFECTING THIS CAR (07527000) WAS ISSUES BY ONLY TO FIX THE ECM, NOT THE SENSOR WHICH WAS AFFECTED AS WELL. I HAVE SEVERAL OTHER EXAMPLES OF SENSOR FAILURES ON THE MAKE AND MODEL OF THIS VEHICLE. I AM CURRENTLY WAITING FOR THE PART TO BE REPLACED AND ARGUING WITH NISSAN TO MAKE THE REPLACEMENT FREE OF CHARGE. *TR
