DASHBOARD IS MELTING. IT IS STICKY AND SHINY WHERE THE SUN HITS THE DASHBOARD. THE DULL PART HAS BURNED AWAY LEAVING A SHINY PART THAT CAUSES A GLARE. THE GLARE IS RIGHT IN MY LINE OF VISION AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO DRIVE.
AFTER FILING A COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS ABOUT MY DETERIORATING DASHBOARD THEY TOLD ME TO GO TO A NISSAN DEALER AND GET AN ESTIMATE ON REPLACING THE DASH, THEN THEY WOULD LET ME KNOW IF THEY WOULD GIVE ME SOME FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. I COMPLIED WITH THEM, MADE APPT.. RECEIVED THE ESTIMATE OF $1726.03. I PRESENTED THIS TO CONSUMER AFFAIRS, THEN AFTER NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS TO FINALLY GET AN ANSWER OF "NO WE DECIDED NOT TO GIVE YOU ANY FINANCIAL SUPPORT BECAUSE THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY !! THIS IS NOT A DAMAGED PART DUE TO ACCIDENT, THIS IS A FACTORY DEFECT!! THIS CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE DURING THE DAY BECAUSE OF THE GLARE FROM THE SUN, AND UNSAFE AFTER DARK DUE TO HEADLIGHTS AND STREETLIGHTS. I HAVE TAKEN THIS COMPLAINT TO MY LOCAL T.V. INVESTIGATIONS AND DO NOT PLAN ON STOPPING UNTIL I GET A NEW DASHBOARD.. I HAVE SEEN THIS VERY SAME COMPLAINT ON NUMEROUS 2008'S !!!! THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURE DEFECT! HAS ANYBODY OUT THERE RECEIVED ANY RESOLUTION???!!! *TR
I WAS TRAVELING ON THIS DATE FROM CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, PENNSYLVANIA WHERE I WORK AS AN ENGINEER AT WESTINGHOUSE HEADQUARTER OFFICE TO WEST CHESTER, OHIO WHERE MY FAMILY RESIDE FOR A FAMILY THANKSGIVING GATHERING. IT WAS 6:30 AM AND IT WAS SNOWING. THE TRAFFIC AHEAD BEGIN SLOWING DOWN FOR SOME REASON. THE VISIBILITY WAS BECOMING QUITE POOR. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE 3-LANE I-79 HEADING SOUTH-WEST. HENCE I WANTED TO PUT ON MY HAZARD SIGNAL TO ALERT THE TRAFFIC BEHIND ME OF THE DANGER AHEAD. IN THE PROCESS I PUSHED ON THE ON/OFF START BUTTON. THE ENGINE DIED RIGHT AWAY WHILE I WAS TRAVELING AT 50 MPH. ALL CONTROL WAS IMMEDIATELY LOST IN THE PROCESS. UNABLE TO STEER MY CAR EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT I PUSHED ON THE HAZARD BUTTON TO ALERT THE VEHICLE BEHIND OD MY DISTRESS. LUCKILY FOR ME, THE FELLOW BEHIND SLOWED DOWN AND STAYED BEHIND ME UNTIL I BROUGHT MY CAR TO A FULL AND COMPLETE STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY AND PUT IT IN PARK TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND SLOWLY CONTINUE MY TRIP WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. I WAS EXTREMELY SCARED AND SURPRISE THAT IT WAS POSSIBLE AT ALL TO KILL THE ENGINE WHILE AT SPEED ON THE ROAD IN THIS VEHICLE. I DO BELIEVE THIS IS A MAJOR FLAW THAT COULD HAVE BEEN QUITE SERIOUS UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES. IMAGINE IT HAPPENED DOWN THE MOUNTAIN IN WEST VIRGINIA WHERE I WAS HEADING NEXT..... THANK YOU *TR
MY FRONT DASH IS MELTING WHERE THE SUN HITS. IT IS NOW LIKE GUM, STICKY. *TR
STARTING APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AGO, MY DASHBOARD BEGAN MELTING. THIS HAS PRODUCED A STICKY, SHINY SUBSTANCE ON MY DASH THAT IN TURNS REFLECTS THE SUN ONTO MY WINDSHIELD. IT IMPAIRS THE FIELD OF VISION AT CERTAIN TIMES OF THE DAY. I HAVE NOTIFIED NISSAN OF THIS ISSUE, AND THEY HAVE STATED THEY DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THIS AS A DEFECT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF, AND AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE CRANK SHAFT AND SPEED SENSORS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
THE DASHBOARD ON MY CAR IS STICKY AND GOOEY AND REFLECTS SUNLIGHT GLARE THAT MAKES IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE THROUGH WHEN SUNNY. I AM SHORT AND HAVE TO SIT AND STOP BETWEEN THE GLARE WHERE THERE IS A SMALL AREA THAT DOESNT OBSTRUCT MY VISION. I ALSO HAVE CRACKS AROUND STEERING WHEEL AND STEREO AREAS AND HAVE CHUNK OF THE DASHBOARD NOW REVEALING THE FOAM UNDERNEATH. THE REST OF THE CAR IS IN MINT CONDITION OTHER THAN THE DASH. I REPORTED TO NISSAN AND THEY TOLD ME TO GET ESTIMATE TO GET FIXED. I STILL HAVE RECEIVED NO RESPONSE ON WHAT THEY ARE DOING BUT THE ESTIMATE CAME IN AT OVER 2500 AND I CANT AFFORD TO SHELL OUT THAT KIND OF MONEY. THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE AND SPREADING QUICKLY. I JUST PAID OFF THE CAR IN FEBRUARY THIS YEAR AND IT BEGAN TO SHOW SIGNS OF GLARE AT THAT TIME. THE STICKY STARTED AROUND NOVEMBER OR AND I THOUGHT IT WAS OUR FAULT UNTIL I SAW A STORY ABOUT THE MELTING DASHBOARDS ON OUR LOCAL NEWS AND THE PICTURES WERE EXACTLY AS MY CAR SHOWED. I AM MOST CONCERNED WITH THE GLARE AS I FEEL IT IS A DEFINITE SAFETY HAZARD AND IT IS GETTING WORSE. I HAVE TINTED WINDOWS AND HAVE ALWAYS KEPT MY CAR IN THE GARAGE BUT IT HASNT ELIMINATED OR SLOWED THE ISSUE. *JS

THE DASHBOARD SEEMS TO BE MELTING CAUSING A HORRIBLE GLARE THAT IMPACTS VISION WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED IN NELAND, FL. *TR
MY NISSAN ALTIMA DASH HAS BECOME STICKY AND SHINY CAUSING A GLARE THAT MAKES IT HARD TO SEE AT TIMES. THIS ALSO PREVENTS IT FROM BEING CLEANED. IT HAS MELTED. THIS WAS FIRST NOTICED SEVERAL YEARS AGO.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BODY CONTROL MODULE CAUSED ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS IN THE VEHICLE TO MALFUNCTION. IN ADDITION, THE TPMS WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A TIRE DEALER WHERE THE TPMS WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN I.D. NUMBER 07V599000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND CALLED THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
IT APPEARS AS IF MY DASHBOARD IS "MELTING." THE FINISH ON THE DASHBOARD IS DISAPPEARING AND IT HAD BECAME VERY STICKY AND THERE IS A GLARE ON THE DASH THAT IS HINDERING VISIBILITY. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND IT APPEARS TO BE COMMON ON 2008 NISSAN ALTIMAS AND MY CONCERNS THAT IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE. I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE THIS PROBLEM AWARE NOW BEFORE IT GETS WORSE. *TR
THE DASHBOARD IN MY 2008 NISSAN ALTIMA IS GOOEY, VERY SHINY AND CAUSES A GLARING IMAGE OF THE DASH TO PROJECT ONTO THE WINDSHIELD OBSTRUCTING THE VIEW OF THE ROAD. IF TOUCHED, IT FEELS LIKE AN ADHESIVE OBJECT AND HAS A CHEMICAL SMELL ON HOT DAYS. THIS GLARING IMAGE IS CONTINUALLY PROJECTED ONTO THE WINDSHIELD MAKING THE CAR A SAFETY ISSUE TO THE DRIVER AND OTHERS ON THE ROAD.

Air bag light on dash board. Which I don’t know if it’s related to the melting windshield issue. Top of dashboard melting and causing severe reflection on windshield and I almost ran someone over because of the severe windshield glare due to melting dashboard causing blinding reflection. Nissan defect is a liability and negligence which needs to be recalled. This is not a cosmetic issue!!! It is a great safety hazard and easily cause a fatal accident since due to the manufacturer’s defect it is unsafe to drive. This needs to be recalled because they will be held accountable if someone dies.
MY DASH IS MELTING AND ITS CREATING A REFLECTIVE SURFACE WHICH IS CREATING A HIGH GLARE ON THE ON THE WINDSHIELD WHICH IS IMPAIRING MY VISION TO DRIVE. *TR
MY NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE INTERIOR DASHBOARD IS MELTING. IT IS VERY VERY SHINY, AND VERY STICKY ALL ACROSS THE AREAS ADJACENT TO THE WINDSHIELD AREA. THE GLARE IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SEE THROUGH. IN FLORIDA THAT IS MUCH OF THE DAYLIGHT HOURS WHEN THE SUN IS THE MOST INTENSE.IT IS VERY UNSIGHTLY AS WELL. THIS BEGAN IN OCTOBER 2013. IT HAS PROGRESSIVELY BECOME WORSE. THIS CAR WAS GARAGE KEPT A LARGE PART OF THE TIME I HAVE OWNED IT. THERE HAS BEEN NOTHING APPLIED TO THE DASH. I PURCHASED THIS CAR NEW. *TR
I HAVE A NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE 2008 2-DOOR AND MY DASH IS MELTING. I LIVE IN FLORIDA AND NOW THE GLARE OF THE DASH MELTING IS PUTTING A GLARE ON MY WINDSHIELD AND IS BEGINNING TO BE A DANGEROUS DRIVING SITUATION. 2008 MODEL YEAR NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE - RECURRING PROBLEM WITH DASHBOARD. DASHBOARD MATERIAL "MELTS" WHEN EXPOSED TO SUNLIGHT OR RADIANT HEAT FROM BEING PARKED IN THE SUN. THE DASH MATERIAL FEELS OILY TO THE TOUCH AND BECOMES MALLEABLE; TOUCHING IT LEAVES A PERMANENT IMPRESSION. THE MAIN ISSUE, HOWEVER, IS THAT THE DASHBOARD BECOMES HIGHLY REFLECTIVE AND CAUSES GLARE, DRASTICALLY REDUCING VISIBILITY. THE VEHICLE IS PARKED UNDER SHADE AS OFTEN AS POSSIBLE AND A SUN SHADE IS USED ON THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WHEN THERE'S NO SHADE TO PARK UNDER - PRACTICES WHICH HAVE KEPT UP SINCE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW IN NOVEMBER 2007. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE OVER TIME; BECOMING INCREASINGLY SHINY EACH TIME IT IS EXPOSED TO SUNLIGHT. I'M THANKFUL I HAVEN'T BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT CAUSED BY THIS ISSUE BUT AM CERTAINLY CONCERNED BY THE REDUCED VISIBILITY. I LIVE IN THE FLORIDA AREA AND HAVE NOTICED MANY OTHER CUSTOMERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM IN THIS YEAR ALONE ALL IN FLORIDA. I WENT TO MY NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AND THEY STATED CHANGING THE DASH IS A LOT OF WORK AND VERY EXPENSIVE THAT ONLY GIVING A DASH COVER CAN BE DONE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VALVE STEM WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
I HAVE NOTICED THAT OVER THE LAST SEVERAL MONTHS 4-5 MONTHS, THAT MY DASHBOARD OF MY NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE 2008 IS BEGINNING TO MELT. INITIALLY, THE DEFECT APPEARED AS A GLOSSY, SHINY HUE TO THE DASHBOARD ALONG THE EDGES BUT OVER TIME, ITS HAS NOW STARTED TO MELT WITH SEVERE GLOSSY AND STICKY RESIDUE - THE GLARE FROM THE DASHBOARD ON MY WINDSHIELD IS DRAMATIC AND BECOMING UNSAFE DURING AFTERNOON DRIVING. IT INVOLVES ALL EDGES OF THE ANTERIOR DASHBOARD ALONG THE EDGE OF THE SPEAKERS AND AIR FILTER AND APPEARS TO BE MOVING POSTERIORLY. I HAVE NOT USED ANY CHEMICALS TO TRY TO IMPROVE THE ISSUE AND EVERYTHING I PLACE ON THE DASHBOARD STICKS SEVERELY. *TR
I NOTICED ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO, THAT THERE WAS A SHINY STICKY SUBSTANCE ON MY DASHBOARD AND IT HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE AS THE MONTHS GO BY. IT HAS GOTTEN TO A POINT THAT IT IS DANGEROUS FOR ME TO DRIVE MY CAR BECAUSE OF THE GLARE THAT IT PRODUCES OFF MY WINDSHIELD. I CAN'T EVEN PUT SOMETHING OVER THE DASH, CAUSE IT WILL STICK AND TEAR THE DASH BOARD APART, IF IT MOVES. THIS IS NOT ONLY A HAZARD TO MYSELF, BUT TO ANYONE ELSE IN MY CAR AND TO OTHER DRIVERS. I POINTED IT OUT TO A REPRESENTATIVE AT NISSAN DEALERSHIP MONTHS AGO AND HE SAID HE DIDN'T KNOW WHAT WAS CAUSING IT, HE COULDN'T HELP ME. I FEEL ITS A DEFECTIVE TYPE MATERIAL AND I'M SURE ITS ALSO NOT A HEALTHY BREATHING ENVIRONMENT FOR ME. *TR
ON 9/6 AT APPROX. 3:30PM MNT THE CAR BEGAN HAVING ISSUES ACCELERATING PAST 60 MPH ON I-70 E IN COLORADO. AT TIMES IT WOULD EVEN START DE-ACCELERATING. AROUND 4PM, SMOKE WAS COMING OUT OF THE FRONT HOOD. MY BOYFRIEND AND I THEN PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, AND AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES WE NOTICED THAT TRANSMISSION FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE CAR. AFTER BEING TOWED TO THE MECHANIC ABOUT 20 MILES AWAY, HE WORKED ON THE CAR FOR ABOUT AN HOUR AND COMPLETED AN OFFICIAL DIAGNOSTIC. HE SAID THE TRANSMISSION FLUID HAD OVERFLOWED FROM THE TRANSMISSION AND THAT WE COULD HAVE HAD A FIRE ON THE HIGHWAY. HE ALSO CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS BLOWN AND THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE. WE HAD TO STORE THE CAR IN THE MECHANIC'S PARKING LOT FOR THE NIGHT AND GET A RENTAL CAR. WE THEN HAD TO STAY IN A HOTEL FOR THE NIGHT IN GRAND JUNCTION, CO. THE NEXT DAY WE CALLED AROUND TO FIND A NISSAN SERVICE CENTER THAT WOULD BE OPEN TO ACCEPTING THE CAR AND COULD GET THE PARTS IN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME GIVEN THAT WE WERE STRANDED IN COLORADO. WE FOUND A SERVICE CENTER IN AURORA ABOUT 250 MILES AWAY FROM GRAND JUNCTION. WE WORKED WITH AAA TO GET THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP JUST BEFORE THEY CLOSED. SINCE THEY WERE CLOSING THE NISSAN SERVICE CENTER DID NOT HAVE TIME TO LOOK AT THE CAR UNTIL MONDAY. I ENDED UP BEING STRANDED IN COLORADO FOR A 6 DAYS WITH MY BOYFRIEND, UNTIL THE CAR WAS FIXED. I AM VERY DISPLEASED WITH NISSAN'S CUSTOMER SERVICE. I CALLED SPECIALISTS FOR 3 DAYS WITH NO HELP. THEY HAVE REFUSED TO COMPENSATE ME FOR THE OTHER DAMAGES INCURRED BY THE FAULTY TRANSMISSION. THIS TRIP COST $2,000 IN UNEXPECTED COSTS DUE TO BE STRANDED,AND MY LIFE WAS PUT IN DANGER BECAUSE NONE OF THE NISSAN SERVICE ADVISER'S TOLD ME ABOUT THE ISSUES WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION (I TOOK MY CAR TO BE CHECKED BEFORE THE ROAD TRIP IN MAY 2013 AND LATE AUGUST 2013). *JS
I SAW ON THE NEWS THAT THERE MIGHT BE A RECALL ON MELTED DASHBOARDS FOR TOYOTA AND NISSAN VEHICLES, SO I DECIDED TO FILE A CLAIM. THE DASHBOARD IN MY CAR STARTED TO MELT A MONTH AFTER I PURCHASED IT, WHICH WAS A YEAR AGO. *TR
THE FOLLOWING HAD TO BE FIXED ALL ON ONE VISIT: MY ALTERNATOR REPLACED; TOP MOTOR MOUNT REPLACED, BRAKE SENSOR REPLACED, BATTERY REPLACED, AND HAD AN OIL COOLER LEAK FIXED. ALL WAS COVERED WITH MY EXTENDED WARRANTY ($858 OTHERWISE). IT HAS HAD A TOTAL OF 4 BATTERIES, 2 ALTERNATORS, 2 MANNA FOLDS (A RECALL), NEW SHOCKS AND STRUTS (I PAID FOR) AND MY TRANSMISSION WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED TO 120,000 MILES. (THERE WAS ALSO ANOTHER RECALL TO THE FUEL TANK BUT CAN'T REMEMBER ANY SPECIFICS). I TAKE GREAT CARE OF MY CAR, HAVE IT MAINTAINED REGULARLY, AND ONLY USE QUALITY GAS. THIS IS MY FOURTH NISSAN AND I AM GREATLY DISAPPOINTED IN THE QUALITY. I AM DEBATING AS TO WHETHER OR NOT I SHOULD TRADE IT IN. *TR
I PULLED IN A PARKING SPACE, FOOT ON THE BRAKE, AND BEFORE I COULD PUT IT IN PARK THE CAR ACCELERATED AND TOOK OFF. THE BRAKES WOULD NOT STOP THE CAR. MY CAR STARTING HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING...IT WAS INTERMITTENT...BUT WOULD START WITH A JUMP (MOST OF THE TIME), SO I THOUGHT IT WAS THE BATTERY AND HAD IT REPLACED. BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER ON 9/17 AND THE COMPUTER DIAGNOSIS WAS THE ELECTRIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT ALL 2009 MODELS HAD THE WARRANTY FOR THIS PART EXTENDED TO 6 YEARS/UNLIMITED MILEAGE, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST...BUT ONLY THE 2009 MODELS. I ALSO NOTICED DURING MY RESEARCH THAT MANY INSTANCES OF THIS SAME PART OCCURRING ON 2008 MODELS AS WELL. WHEN I CONTACTED NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS, THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME AS MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. I WANT TO KNOW WHY ONLY THE 2009 MODELS ARE INCLUDED? THE NISSAN TECHNICIAN WHO WORKED ON MY VEHICLE SAID THAT THE PART IS THE SAME FROM 2007-2009...AND IN HIS OPINION, ALL SHOULD BE INCLUDED. THE MELTING SPREAD TO COVER ABOUT 80% OF THE DASHBOARD. AS TIME PASSED, THE STICKINESS HAS CAUSED ME TO NOT BE ABLE TO DRIVE DURING MID-DAY HOURS BECAUSE OF THE GLARE COMING OFF THE DASHBOARD AND HITTING THE WINDSHIELD. EVEN WITH HIGH END POLARIZED SUNGLASSES, I AM SCARED OF DRIVING BECAUSE THERE'S TOO MANY THINGS I CAN'T REALLY SEE ON THE ROAD. RECENTLY, IN ADDITION TO THE STICKY MELTING DASH IT HAS BEGAN TO CRACK ALONG THE EDGES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INTER-COOLER KIT FOR THE POWER TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,000.

THE NISSAN HEADQUARTERS CUSTOMER RELATIONS WERE EXTREMELY RUDE AND REFUSED TO HELP ME AT ALL..... I'M A SINGLE MOTHER AND CAN'T AFFORD TO PAY TO HAVE THIS FIX. THROUGH THE NICO CLUB, I HAVE LEARNED THAT MANY OTHER FLORIDA RESIDENTS WHO OWN 2008-2009 NISSAN ALTIMA COUPES ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM.
