I WAS TRYING TO START MY CAR AND IT WOULD NOT START. THE SWITCH WHICH ALLOWS THE CAR TO KNOW YOU ARE PUSHING THE BRAKE DID NOT WORK (PUSH BUTTON IGNITION). I TRIED TO PUT MY KEY IN THE SLOT TO START THE CAR, BUT THE CAR DOES NOT START IF THE CAR DOES NOT SENSE THE BRAKE IS BEING PUSHED. THIS IS A HUGE HAZARD. GOOD THING I WAS NOT STRANDED SOMEWHERE. I CALLED NISSAN WITH NO HELP AT ALL. A SEARCH ON THE INTERNET REVEALED THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED. THE PART NUMBER REPLACED IS INTERMOTOR SL2110. PLEASE RESPOND WITH YOUR INVESTIGATION ON THIS. THANK YOU. *TR
TL* THE CONTACTS SON OWNED A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATED UP TO 100 MPH, JUMPED THE CURB, RAN INTO A SCHOOLYARD, AND ULTIMATELY CRASHED INTO A PLANTER WALL. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED FATAL INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED OR MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.
IN THE SEPTEMBER OF 2014, THE POWER DOOR LOCKS STOPPED WORKING (WOULD NOT OPEN/CLOSE WITH THE USE OF EITHER THE REMOTE OR THE BUTTON ON THE DRIVER DOOR). AT FIRST IT WAS THE FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER DOORS, BUT THEN OVER THE NEXT 1-2 WEEKS BOTH DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCKS STOPPED WORKING AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT IN ANY ACCIDENT NOR EXPOSED TO EXCESSIVE WATER/FIRE/ETC AROUND THIS TIME. WHEN I HAD IT EVALUATED AT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THE DOOR ACTUATORS HAD BROKEN, BUT GIVEN NO EXPLANATION AS TO HOW/WHY THIS WOULD HAPPEN FOR ALL 4 DOORS AT THE SAME TIME. DUE TO THE HIGH COST OF REPAIR (QUOTED $250 PER DOOR), I HAVE NOT HAD THESE FIXED. NOW, NEARLY 9-10 MONTHS LATER, THE LOCKS REMAIN COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE TO THE KEYLESS ENTRY REMOTE AND THE POWER LOCK BUTTON ON THE DRIVER'S DOOR, AND MUST BE MANUALLY LOCKED/UNLOCKED. *TR
ON AUGUST 26, 2014 WE PULLED UP A WALMART AND MY GRANDSON COULD NOT GET OUT OF HIS SEAT BELT. THE SEAT BELT WAS GETTING TIGHTER AND TIGHTER AND WAS SQUEEZING HIS STOMACH CAUSING HIM TO BE IN GREAT PAIN. (I HAVE PICTURES) A GOOD SAMARITIAN CAME AND TRIED TO HELP AND HE STATED THAT THE SEAT BELT HAD LOCKED AFTER TRYING FOR SO LONG TO GET THE BELT TO RELEASE MY GRAND SON BEGAN TO CRY HE COULD NO LONGER ENDURE THE PAIN TO HIS STOMACH. THE SEAT BELT HAD CAUSED HIS STOMACH TO PROTRUDE YOU COULD SEE HIS RIBS. WE FINALLY HAD TO CUT THE SEAT BELT TO FREE MY GRANDSON. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DECELERATED EVEN WHILE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 128,000.
HELP, A MELTING AND SHINY STICKY DASH ON MY 2009 ALTIMA GENERATES A TREMENDOUS GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD AND PREVENTS ME FROM CLEARLY VIEWING THE HIGHWAY IN FRONT DURING THE DAY. IT ALSO DISTORS THE VIEWING DURING THE NIGHT DUE TO THE ON-COMMING VEHICLES HEADLIGHTS. IT IS HIGHLY SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS DRIVING SAFETY HAZARD PROBLEM THAT COULD/WILL "IT IS JUST A TIMING ISSUE" CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, THE DASH CAN'T BE CLEAN AND IS MELTING. IT IS ALSO MINIMAZING THE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE. PLEASE ADVISE IF THERE IS SOLUTION OR RECALL FROM NISSAN TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I OWN A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA COUPE WITH APPROXIMATELY 60K MILES. WHEN DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 60MPH, THE CAR DECELERATES WITH NO WARNING. DURING THE FIRST INCIDENT, I WAS ON THE LEFT-HAND SIDE OF A SEMI TRUCK CAUGHT IN THEIR BLINDSPOT WHILE THEY WERE TRYING TO SWITCH LANES. I ATTEMPTED TO PASS THIS TRUCK ONLY TO HAVE MY CAR SLOW DOWN COMPLETELY, EVEN WITH GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. VEHICLES BEHIND ME HAD TO CHANGE LANES SUDDENLY TO AVOID REAR ENDING ME, AND I ALMOST BECAME THE VICTIM OF A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WITH THIS SEMI TRUCK. FEARING A SIMILAR INCIDENT ON THE TRIP BACK, I STAYED SAFELY IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE GOING JUST BELOW THE POSTED SPEED (70MPH). AS I APPROACHED AN INCLINE ON THE INTERSTATE, NOT ONLY WOULD MY CAR NOT SPEED UP, IT WOULD NOT EVEN MAINTAIN SPEED. IT QUICKLY WENT FROM 66MPH TO 55MPH. ONCE AGAIN, I WAS ALMOST INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS COLLISION WITH THE UNSUSPECTING VEHICLES BEHIND ME. AFTER GETTING A DIAGNOSIS DONE AT MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP, I WAS INFORMED THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS OVERHEATING. NISSAN HAS ADMITTED TO KNOWING THESE ISSUES, BY AUTOMATICALLY EXTENDING THE WARRANTY ON THESE CVT TRANSMISSIONS TO 10YR/120K. HOWEVER, THE WAY AROUND ACTUALLY PAYING TO FIX THESE DEATH TRAPS IS TO INFORM THE CONSUMER THAT THE "FIX" IS NOT A NEW TRANSMISSION, RATHER AN EXTERNAL COOLER THAT NEEDS TO BE INSTALLED. THESE ARE COMMONLY FOUND IN LARGER SUV'S AND TRUCKS TO HELP COMPENSATE FOR THE ADDITIONAL STRESS ON THE TRANSMISSION, DUE TO LARGER SIZE/WEIGHT. I DRIVE A 2-DOOR ALTIMA. I AM NOT TOWING BOATS OR PAVERS. IF MY TINY CAR NEEDS AN EXTERNAL COOLER TO HELP ITS FAULTY TRANSMISSION FUNCTION SAFELY AND PROPERLY, THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN INSTALLED AT MANUFACTURING. THE OUT OF POCKET COST FOR THIS COOLER IS $1000+. NISSAN NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE FAULTY PRODUCT THEY MANUFACTURED. THIS COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE STEERING MECHANISM AND THE LOWER CONTROL ARM CORRODED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNAVAILABLE.
THERE ARE LONG LINES OF CRACKS ALL OVER MY DASHBOARD. IT APPEARS THE MATERIAL FROM WHICH IT IS MADE, IS EXTREMELY INFERIOR. BOTH THE DEALER FROM WHICH IS WAS BOUGHT (CORAL SPRINGS NISSAN) AND THE CONSUMER AFFAIRS SECTION OF NISSAN NA TELL ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO AS THE WARRANTY IS UP. WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO ME IF THE DASHBOARD FALLS APART WHILE I AM DRIVING? I AM ALSO EXPERIENCING, TO A LESSER EXTENT, THE SHINY SPOTS WHICH I HAVE ALSO READ ABOUT FROM COMMENTS ONLINE, ON THE DASHBOARD. I PREVIOUSLY OWNED A 1999 NISSAN ALTIMA AND NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM AND FAIL TO SEE HOW A CAR WHICH I PURCHASED DECEMBER 2009 - NOTE EVEN 5 YEARS OLD - SHOULD BE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. I'M EXTREMELY DISSATISFIED THAT THE COMPANY IS UNWILLING TO ASSIST IN RECTIFYING THIS DEFECT. *TR
HAVE HAD SEVERAL ISSUES WITH MY 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. I BOUGHT IT NOVEMBER 2012. BY FEBRUARY 2013, I REPLACED TIRES. WAS SOLD A CAR WITH INCORRECT LICENSE PLATES THAT OWED REGISTRATION FEES TO DMV. I ALMOST GOT TOWED AND DIDN'T KNOW WHY. BETWEEN FEBRUARY AND NOVEMBER 2013, I REPLACED BRAKES, ANOTHER SET OF TIRES, THIRD BRAKE LIGHT TWICE, AND BATTERY. MAY 2014, TOOK IT TO ROGERS & ROGERS DEALERSHIP FOR AN OIL CHANGE. MAINTENANCE OTHER LIGHT AND TIRES ON. (CAR WAS BOUGHT WITH A FLASHING TIRE MAINTENANCE LIGHT ON) MOUNTS AND STRUTS WERE REPLACED AND WAS ADVISED TO REPLACE SENSORS. AUGUST 2014, CAR WOULDN'T START AGAIN. STEERING LOCK UNIT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. IT'S NOT COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY. REAR LEFT WINDOW DOESN'T WORK EITHER. EVERYTHING ADDS UP TO OVER $3000. *TR
THIS IS THE THIRD EXHAUST MANIFOLD I HAD TO PUT ON MY CAR WITHIN A YEAR. IT IS AN 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA, IT SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS PART. EXHAUST FUMES ARE COMING ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR FROM THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD.
I BOUGHT NEW 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA FROM THE DEALERSHIP. THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN SLIPPING WHEN THE CAR STARTS DRIVING SINCE DAY ONE. I WAS TOLD IN THE DEALERSHIP THAT THIS IS A CVT AND IT'S WORKING THAT WAY. MY TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED NOW AT 62000 MI AND THE WARRANTY IS OVER. I DID A RESEARCH ON INTERNET AND FOUND OUT THAT MANY NISSAN OWNERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION. *TR
MY DASHBOARD IS MELTING, CAUSING EXTREME GLARE AND DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS. FIRST NOTICED THE ISSUE WHILE LIVING IN HAWAII. *TR
THE DASHBOARD OF THE CAR IS MELTING. THE AREAS ON THE DASHBOARD THAT ARE AFFECTED ARE VERY STICKY AND CAN'T BE CLEANED. WITH THE DASHBOARD MELTING, THERE IS A GLARE THAT COMES UP FROM THE DASHBOARD ONTO THE WINDSHIELD WHICH MAKES DRIVING DURING THE DAY BOTH DIFFICULT AND HAZARDOUS BECAUSE OF THE LIMITED VISIBILITY. I ALSO DON'T KNOW IF THIS MELTING ISSUE IS CAUSING ANY TYPE OF TOXINS OR FUMES TO COLLECT IN THE CAR INTERIOR.

DASH BOARD IS MELTING CAUSING INTENSE GLARE ON WINDSHIELD. FIRST NOTICED LAST SUMMER 2014 AND NOW THAT HOT WARM WEATHER HAS RETURNED 2015 IT IS GETTING WORSE! DASHBOARD IS STICKY/GUMMY. UNABLE TO SEE CLEARLY DUE TO GLARE. IM AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT SINCE IT HAS BECOME VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE. GLARE OBSTRUCTS VISIBILITY. WAS PULLING INTO PARKING SPOT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE ROLLING TO A STOP WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND BEFORE I COULD LIFT MY FOOT AND REAPPLY BRAKE I HAD GONE OVER THE CURB AND INTO A BUSH. *TR
THE CAR WILL NOT START. ALL ELECTRICS WORK, CAR AND KEY FOB BATTERIES ARE NEW, BUT WHEN YOU PRESS THE START BUTTON THE CAR WON'T START. THIS 'GIMMICK' OF A KEY-FREE VEHICLE IS FUNDAMENTALLY DEFECTIVE AND AN INTERNET REVIEW SHOWS THOUSANDS OF NISSAN ALTIMA OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. COMMON WISDOM SAYS THAT THE ANTI-THEFT STEERING LOCK IS ENGAGING WHEN IT SHOULD NOT AND THE REPAIR COST IS @ $1,000. NISSAN SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO FIX THIS ON RECALL AS THEY DID SO ON OTHER VEHICLES AND MADE CHANGES TO NEWER ALTIMA MODELS TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. THE EFFECT IS THAT I CAN'T USE MY CAR AT ALL EVEN THOUGH IT IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION IN EVERY OTHER WAY. *TR

DEALERS WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM, BUT HAVE BEEN GOT CAUGHT OUT MANY TIMES WHEN CAR WOULD NOT START AND HAD TO NOTIFY AAA. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH MANY NISSAN'S AND IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY OR RECALL. *TR

THE DASHBOARD ON THIS VEHICLE IS MELTING DUE TO WARM CLIMATE. WHEN DRIVING TOWARDS THE SUN THE GLOSS OF THE METING DASHBOARD REFLECTS THE SUN BACK UP INTO THE LOWER WINDSHIELD. THIS IS BLINDING TO THE DRIVER AND OBSCURES VISIBILITY THROUGH THE LOWER PORTION OF THE WINDSHIELD WHEN THIS CONDITION EXIST. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUED DUE TO THE UNSAFE CONDITION. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY REPORTS IN THE LOCAL MEDIA OF THIS SAME CONDITION YET NISSAN REFUSES TO ADDRESS THE ISSUE. HOPEFULLY THERE WILL NOT HAVE TO BE A TRAFFIC FATALITY BEFORE THIS SAFETY ISSUE IS ADDRESSED AND A RECALL IS ISSUED.
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT STAYS ON AT ALL TIMES, AND NOW THIS WEEK THE SUPPLEMENTAL AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT HAS BEEN FLASHING. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND THEY TELL ME THAT THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS MALFUNCTIONING. IF THE CAR WAS IN A COLLISION AND SOMEONE WAS SEATED IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, THE AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP, WHILE THIS CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY WITH SAME COMPLAINT, BUT THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. FUNNY, HOW 2013-2014 ALTIMAS ARE BEING RECALLED FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM, BUT THE EARLIER MODEL YEARS HAVE NOT BEEN. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE BATTERY AND CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE CRANK AND CAM SHAFT. HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
CAR WILL NOT START AFTER PRESSING BRAKE + START BUTTON. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS AND THE BRAKE PEDAL BECOMES STIFF. ONLY AFTER TRYING MULTIPLE TIMES WILL THE CAR ACTUALLY STARTS. *TR

TRAVELING ON A 3 HOUR TRIP, OF WHICH WAS ON THE INTERSTATE AT 75 TO 80 MPH SPEEDS. AFTER ABOUT 2 HOURS OF RUNNING THESE SPEEDS NON STOP I WAS IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE COMING UP ON A SMALL INCLINE, THE CAR LOST POWER MY SPEED INSTANTLY DROPPED TO 60 MPH. I STOPPED AT THE NEXT GAS STATION (TEN MILES DOWN THE ROAD)TO CHECK THE TRANSMISSION FLUID, IT WAS FINE. GOT BACK ON THE ROAD AND IT RAN OK. THE NEXT DAY ON THE ROAD THE SAME THING HAPPENED, I STOPPED FOR 10 MINUTES, GOT BACK ON THE ROAD THEN IT RAN OK. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN AN ACCIDENT IF A VEHICLE WAS BEHIND ME. AFTER RESEARCHING THE WEB I DISCOVERED MANY OTHER OWNERS HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE THIS NISSAN IS AN INTERSTATE DEATH TRAP THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR

CAR DOORS UNLOCKED NORMALLY , THE DASH SHOWED A YELLOW KEY LIGHT BLINKING , NO RESPONSE TO PUSHING THE IGNITION BUTTON. CAR LOCKS AND UNLOCKS WITH THE REMOTE . HEADLIGHTS WORKED BATTERY WAS CHARGED FULL. EXITED THE DOOR , LOCKED THE CAR , UNLOCKED THE CAR , ENTERED IN - HELD THE REMOTE CLOSE TO THE IGNITION BUTTON. THE DASHBOARD STILL SHOWED YELLOW KEY LIGHT BLINKING . PUSHED IGNITION BUTTON NO RESPONSE. UPON GOOGLING THERE WAS A SUGGESTION TO REMOVED NEGATIVE FROM BATTERY WAIT FOR A 5 MINUTES , RECONNECT AND TRY . SAME RESULTS AFTER CONNECTING THE BATTERY. I WAS DRIVING WHEN I PUSHED THE CLUTCH AND THE PEDAL WOULD NOT COME BACK UP THE CAR STALLED SUDDENLY, AND I HURT MY NECK. *TR
I WAS PARKED AT A STORE AND THE CAR WOULDN'T START. I LOOKED UP A TEMPORARY FIX AND WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE STARTED. ONCE I GOT HOME, I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND DISCOVERED THAT NISSAN KNEW WHAT THE ISSUE WAS: THE STEERING LOCK ASSEMBLY WAS MALFUNCTIONING. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. IT CAN OCCUR ANYWHERE OR ANY TIME. NISSAN EXTENDED THE WARRANTY (JUST FOR THAT PART) 6 YEARS. THE DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULDN'T HONOR THE EXTENDED WARRANTY UNLESS THEY COULD DUPLICATE THE FAULT...AND THEY WOULD CHARGE AN $80.00 FEE...JUST FOR A MECHANIC SITTING IN THE CAR AND STARTING IT. AND IF I WANTED TO HAVE THE WORK DONE ANYWAY, IT WOULD COST APPROXIMATELY $1200.00. OBVIOUSLY, I DIDN'T LEAVE THE VEHICLE WITH THEM SINCE I KNEW IT WOULD START AT THAT TIME. THE PROBLEM IS, FROM EVERY COMMENT ABOUT THE PROBLEM ON NISSAN BOARDS, FROM WHAT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP ITSELF SAID, THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. SO THE NEXT TIME IT HAPPENS I COULD BE AT WORK LATE AT NIGHT. I COULD BE DRIVING ACROSS TEXAS AND STOP FOR GAS, THEN I'M STUCK AT A GAS PUMP UNABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL TO MOVE THE CAR. I (OR MY WIFE) COULD GET STUCK ANYWHERE WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURS AGAIN.
TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 70 MPH, THE AIR BAG INDICATOR WENT OFF SIGNALING THAT THERE WAS NO AIR BAG. THE NEXT DAY, IT WENT OFF SIGNALING OR INDICATING THAT THERE WAS NO AIR BAG, BUT ONLY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE.
MY DASHBOARD IS MELTING. IT IS VERY STICKY TO THE TOUCH AND NOTHING CAN BE DONE TO STOP IT. ALTHOUGH A VISUAL DEFECT, IT IS ALSO A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE THE MELTING PORTION IS VERY SHINY AND PROVIDES A SHARP GLARE ON MY WINDSHIELD GREATLY REDUCING MY VISIBILITY. *TR

THREE MONTHS AFTER INSTALLATION OF A NEW (DEALER PROVIDED) BATTERY, THE POSITIVE TERMINAL AND CABLE HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO HEAVY CORROSION. THE ORIGINAL CAR BATTERY FAILED BECAUSE OF HEAVY CORROSION AROUND THE POSITIVE TERMINAL AS WELL. THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT THE HARNESS AND CABLE SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED AT THE TIME OF BATTERY REPLACEMENT AND DO NOT KNOW WHY THIS WASN'T RECOMMENDED. THEY STATED THAT THESE BATTERIES ROUTINELY VENT EXCESS GAS THAT SHOULD CONDENSE INTO THE BATTERY COMPARTMENT. THEY DID NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUE THAT HEAVY CORROSION RE-ACCUMULATED IN A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME (SHORTER THAN RECOMMENDED MAINTENANCE INTERVALS FOR THE CAR). FURTHER, THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I HAVE HEARD OF AN ALTIMA BATTERY ISSUE AS MY SISTER HAD TO REPLACE HER BATTERY TWICE AS WELL. I WOULD LIKE THE NHTSA TO INVESTIGATE IF THIS IS A REPETITIVE ISSUE WITH THESE BATTERIES AS THIS COULD LEAD TO A SAFETY PROBLEM IF THE CAR WERE TO SPONTANEOUSLY SHUT DOWN DURING DRIVING DUE TO BATTERY MALFUNCTION. *TR

SUBSEQUENTLY (AFTER A DISCUSSION WITH THE SERVICE PERSON), IT SEEMED APPARENT THE THERE WAS A WHEEL LOCK SWITCH ASSY FAILURE (WHICH IS UNDER A FORMAL RECALL). I WAS TOLD THAT THE PART IS SEVERELY BACKORDERED. I THEN DECIDED TO RETURN IN A FEW MONTHS (DURING THE NEXT OIL CHANGE) AND ATTEMPT TO SCHEDULE A WARRANTY REPLACEMENT PER THE FORMAL RECALL. HOWEVER, THE DEALERSHIP (GRUBBS NISSAN IN HURST, TEXAS) TOLD ME THAT "SINCE THE SWITCH WAS NOT BROKEN NOW, THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO HONOR THE WARRANTY". I WAS GIVEN A PHONE NUMBER TO CALL CORPORATE. AFTER SOME RESEARCH ON THE WEB, IT APPEARS THAT MY WARRANTY REQUEST SHOULD HAVE BEEN HONORED (ESPECIALLY SINCE I ALREADY WAS STRANDED AND HAD TO PAY FOR TOWING ONCE BEFORE!). ON THE MORNING OF 2/19/14 6:00 AM PROCEEDED TO START CAR TO USE IN WALKING DISTANCE. BOTH REMOTE BATTERIES WERE CHANGED WITHIN 30 DAYS PREVIOUSLY BY DEALER. EVERY COMMAND ON REMOTE SEEM TO WORK EXCEPT THAT THE CAR DIDN'T RECOGNIZE THE REMOTE TO START THE CAR. THERE WERE "NO KEY" SYMBOLS ON THE DASH. THE CAR JUST RETURNED FROM A HUNDRED MILE TRIP. WHEN RETURNING TO MY CAR AFTER WORK ON FEBRUARY 14TH, 2014 THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START USING THE AUTOMATIC START INTELLIGENT KEY SYSTEM IN MY 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. UPON DOING RESEARCH, I FOUND THIS IS A HIGHLY COMMON ISSUE WITH THE 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA MODEL. THERE ARE ALSO VARIOUS INDEPENDENT PETITIONS AND CLASS ACTION SUITS BEING FILED BY INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY THE SAME PART MALFUNCTION. IN FACT, THE COMPLICATIONS INVOLVING THE ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK (ESCL) MECHANISM WAS SO COMMON THAT NISSAN DID NOT IMPLEMENT THIS PART INTO THE 2010 OR IN ANY FUTURE ALTIMA VEHICLES. DENIED MY REQUEST TO UTILIZE A BUY BACK PROGRAM TOWARD THEIR 2009 ALTIMA AND ALSO DENIED ME ANY FURTHER DETAILS AS TO HOW THEY REACHED THEIR DECISION. THE REGIONAL SPECIALIST SAID SHE COULD ONLY SAY 'ARBITRATION DECISION(S) ARE ALWAYS BASED ON THE SERVICE HISTORY OF VEHICLE. TOO CLOSE, IT IS IN MY OPINION NISSAN HAS MONOPOLISTIC CONTROLS ON CONSUMERS IN THIS SITUATION. ONLY A NISSAN DEALERSHIP/SERVICE SHOP CAN DIAGNOSE THE ESCL MALFUNCTION, AS IT REQUIRES A NISSAN PRODUCT SPECIFIC SCAN TOOL, AND IT IS THEIR COMPANY'S ARBITRATION DEPARTMENT WHO FACILITATES ALL LEGAL DECISIONS AT WHICH ARE TYPICALLY NOT IN FAVOR OF THE CONSUMER. I DO NOT BELIEVE A SERVICE HISTORY OF VEHICLE IS MATERIAL INFORMATION IN THIS SCENARIO.
