THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON MY DASHBOARD, AND WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT THE OCS SYSTEM FOR THE PASSENGER SEAT HAD FAILED, AND I WOULD NEED TO PAY $2500 TO REPLACE THE CUSHION SEAT. THIS ISSUE APPEARS TO BE RELATED TO AN AIRBAG RECALL INVOLVING 2013-2016 ALTIMA, AS WELL AS OTHER NISSAN VEHICLES THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IS DISABLE DUE TO A SENSOR MALFUNTION THAT IS VERY DANGWRKUS IF YOU ARE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT
DASH BOARD RECALL - I BOUGHT MY ALTIMA USE BACK IN 2016. I RECENTLY TOOK IT IN TO GET IT SERVICED AND ASKED ABOUT WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT THE DASH BOARD WHICH THE AGENT FURTHER TOLD ME THAT THEIR WAS A CLAIM LAST YEAR FOR THE DASH BOARD ISSUE, BUT I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTICE ABOUT THE ISSUE UNTIL I BROUGHT IT IN 04/13/2018. THE DASH BOARD AND GEAR SHIFT ARE BOTH STICKY AND CAUSING HARM WHEN DRIVING. NISSAN NOR THE THIRD PARTY CONSULTANT NEVER REACHED OUT BY SENDING S MAIL THAT THEIR PARTS WAS DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO ACCELERATE AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND TRANSMISSION SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 177,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED ON, A LOUD HUMMING NOISE AND A TICKING NOISE WAS HEARD AS WELL AS A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL WAS PRESENT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE HAD BEEN PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE FOR THE PAST SIX MONTHS. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER LE BLANC NISSAN OF GONZALES LOUISIANA IN THE MONTH OF JUNE 2017, THEY DETERMINED IT WAS A BAD IGNITION COIL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED THEN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOW TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC THAT DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE AS HAVING A CATALYTIC CONVERTER FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS BLINKING ON AND OFF. I NEED TO KNOW IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THE SENSOR
CAR WILL NOT START DUE TO THE STEERING COLUMN LOCK, IT WAS STATIONARY AT THE TIME.
The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the dashboard had started to melt due to sunlight exposure. She also stated that a glare from the melted dashboard would reflect onto the windshield, obstructing her vision while driving. The contact stated that the failure had worsened over the years and that the melting had spread across the entire dashboard. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

MY CAR WOULDN'T START. THE ESCL BOX LOCKED UP FOR 3 DAYS! NOW I HAVE TO PAY $150 TO HAVE IT FIXED PER MY WARRANTY COMPANY. CARBON BUILD-UP ON VALVES CAUSING MISFIRE AND THE BREAK DOWN OF THE CATALYST. CODES P0300 AND P0303 STORED IN ECM. REQUIRED REPLACEMENT OF LONG ENGINE ASSEMBLY AND EXHAUST MANIFOLD. INITIALLY, DEALERSHIP CITED NEED TO REPLACE IGNITION COIL, SOFTWARE UPDATE, FUEL LINE FLUSH. PICKED UP CAR AND IMMEDIATELY THE SERVICE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND CAR BEGAN TO MISFIRE. RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP WHO SURMISED THAT THERE MIGHT BE A LOOSE WIRE. NOT THE ISSUE. DEALER CONTACTED NISSAN CORPORATE FOR DIRECTION WITH DIAGNOSTICS. CAR MILEAGE 59,802.
NISSAN WAS A CAR I REALLY TRUST, BUT FROM NOW MY OPINION CHANGED. I BOUGHT MY NEW NISSAN IN 2009 FROM A NISSAN DEALER. AFTER FOUR YEARS OF USE (2013) THE NISSAN RELEASE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR A EN ELECTRONIC PIECE THAT SHOULD NEVER FAIL (THE FAMOUS ESCL). MY CAR STOP WORKING DUE TO THIS ISSUE, IT COULDN'T TURN ON BECAUSE WAS LOCKED BY THE FAULTY ELECTRONIC PIECE. I USE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY TO FIX THE PROBLEM, OK EVERYBODY HAPPY, FOUR YEARS LATER 2017, SAME PROBLEM, SAME PIECE, SAME ISSUE (FAULTY ESCL) COST: $1,100.00 CALLED NISSAN, I SUBMITTED ALL THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTATION (INSURANCE CARD, BILL TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE, ) I CONTACTED NISSAN ABOUT THIS THEY DON'T TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY BECAUSE PIECE HAS ALREADY BEEN CHANGED BY ANOTHER DEFECTIVE (THAT SHOULD NEVER FAIL) ESCL PIECE THAT LAST 4 YEARS. I REALLY THINK VERY DISSAPOINTED HOW NISSAN TREAT ITS CUSTOMERS. THIS IS MY THIRD CAR I BUY THROUGH NISSAN, I AM REALLY RECONSIDERING MY NEXT CAR TO GET A DIFFERENT CAR BRAND. THE CAR STEERING LOCKS UP AND YOU CAN'T START THE CAR
THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG ON/OFF WARNING LIGHT (YELLOW) ON THE CENTER OF THE DASH LIGHTS UP INTERMITTENTLY. THIS OCCURS EVEN IF SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AT THE TIME INDICATING THAT THE AIRBAG IS TURNED OFF.
2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. CONSUMER WRITES SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR VEHICLE REPAIRS. *LD *TR
I HAVE A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA THAT NOW SITS IN MY GARAGE. I WENT TO LEAVE TO RUN ERRANDS AND MY CAR WOULDN'T START. MY HUSBAND FOUND THE PROBLEM TO BE THE ESCL - ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH, I FOUND QUITE A BIT OF INFORMATION ABOUT THE ESCL. FOR ONE, IT'S TOO EXPENSIVE TO HAVE REPAIRED.
P0776 CODES POPULATES AFTER 02 SENSORS WERE CHANGED. IT'S THE SOLENOID B PRESSURE LINE LOCATED IN THE VALVE BODY. IT AFFECTS THE CAR TO THE POINT WE'RE IT'S UNDRIVEABLE AND LOSES POWER. CAR WILL NOT GO OVER 3000RPMS IF IT DOES IT CAUSES THE CAR TO GO INTO LYMP MODE. THERE'S BEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE ISSUE AND NISSAN HAS YET TO MAKE ANY EFFORT TO RECTIFY THE ISSUE. NOBODY HAS $3000 TO REPLACE THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION, WHEN IT'S ONLY A LITTLE COMPONENT THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND NOT THE ENTIRE TRANNY. RECTIFY THE ISSUE AND STOP SELLING LEMON CARS WITH HORRIBLE PARTS.
MY PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG LIGHT OR AIRBAG LIGHT KEEPS BLINKING/FLASHING FOR OVER A YEAR. THE NISSAN DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE $160 TO LOOK AT IT. IT JUST STARTED BLINKING ONE DAY.
THE KEY FOB FOR THE 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA WORKS TO LOCK AND UNLOCK THE CAR DOORS, BUT IT THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS UP WITH THE KEY SYMBOL INDICATING AN ERROR. I WENT TO GO START MY VEHICLE MAYBE AN HOUR AFTER I HAD JUST USED IT TO GET HOME AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT START AT ALL. WHEN THE PUSH TO START BUTTON IS PUSHED, NOTHING HAPPENS. IT IS ESSENTIALLY LIKE THE CAR DOES NOT SENSE THE KEY. THE PROBLEM HAS TO DO WITH THE STEERING LOCK ON THE VEHICLES AND IS A COSTLY REPAIR THAT APPEARS TO BE FAIRLY COMMON.
ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK MALFUNCTION. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY. WOULD NOT START. STRANDING WIFE IN 0 DEGREE TEMPERATURES.
CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE COMPLETELY TOTALED. IT WAS DRIVEN LESS THAN 2 MILES PARKED AND SHUT OFF. WITHIN 15 MINUTES THE CAR WAS COMPLETELY ENGULFED IN FLAMES.
TAKATA RECALL MY STEERING LOCK JUST WENT OUT ON MY 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA I JUST PURCHASED THIS CAR LAST YEAR HOWEVER I DID NOT KNOW IT HAD AN EXTENDED WARRANTY UP UNTIL 2015 FOR THE STEERING LOCK IF THIS CAR IS STILL BEING SOLD THROUGH DEALERSHIPS IT SHOULD BE TOLD TO THE BUYER OF ANY RECALL ISSUES THAT HAVE WENT ON PRIOR HOWEVER I'M STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON THIS CAR AND I HAVE A $1,200 PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED AND BECAUSE I BOUGHT THE CAR ONE YEAR AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY IS UP IFILE TO HAVE TO PAY ALL THESE EXPENSES OUT OF MY POCKET WHICH IS NOWHERE RIGHT
ESCL HAS GONE OUT TWICE NOW. FIRST TIME NISSAN REPAIR AT THEIR COST. THIS TIME THEY WON'T REPLACE AT THEIR EXPENSE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND NISSAN KNOWS THAT THIS IS A DEFECT ON THEIR PART. I HAD TO PAY TOWING CHARGE AND REPLACE ESCL FOR THE SECOND TIME!! $1000 FIX.
WON'T START ESLC STEERING WHEEL LOCK DEFECTIVE. PURCHASED CAR THEN STOPPED AT GAS STATION TURNED OFF CAR WON'T START AGAIN. SHOWED YELLOW KEY FLASHINGS LIGHT ON DASH.
I CAN'T GET MY CAR TO START BECAUSE IT WON'T RECOGNIZE MY KEY. NISSAN HAS A CAMPAIGN AND EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO HELP SOME OF THE THOUSANDS OF OWNERS WHOSE VEHICLE WON'T START DUE TO A FAULTY ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCKS. HOWEVER, THESE RECALLS ARE VIN SPECIFIC AND EVEN THOUGH MY VEHICLE HAS THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM, THEY DENIED MY CLAIM. I APPEALED AND THEY DENIED AGAIN. NOW I GET TO PAY $1,000 TO PAY FOR A PART THAT NISSAN HAS PUBLICLY ADMITTED WAS DUE TO SHODDY MANUFACTURING IN THOUSANDS OF 09 ALTIMAS, BUT SOMEHOW NOT IN MINE. I LOVE MY ALTIMA. BUT RECENTLY IT'S AN EXPENSIVE PAIN IN THE NECK. RECENTLY MY AIRBAG LIGHTS CAME ON. TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC AND HE SAID MY AIRBAG SENSORS ARE NOT WORKING. SINCE THE SENSORS IS IN THE SEAT, I HAVE TO PAY $3,100 TO REPLACE THE BOTTOM CUAHION IN THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY CAR. MY HAS WASN'T IN AN ACCIDENT, THERE WAS NO MOISTURE IN MY CAR TO CAUSE THIS PROBLEM. I'VE LOOKED ONLINE AND AIRBAG SENSOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF ALTIMAS HAS GOTTEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS. THIS IS NOT A CHEAP FIX AND THERE'S TOO MANY NISSAN OWNERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THEIR 2009 NISAAN ALTIMAS PASSENGER AIRBAG SENSOR FAILURE. NISSAN NEED TO FIX THIS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT.
TRAVELING ON A CA FREEWAY THE TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY LOSES POWER DUE TO TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING AND HAD TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE UNTIL IT COOLED DOWN. THE CAR HAD 85,000 MILES AND WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND SO A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS INSTALLED. 2 YEARS AND 60,000 MILES LATER WHILE ON THE FREEWAY, THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY FAILS PUTTING THE DRIVER IN DANGER OF TRYING TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. THE TRANSMISSION WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND NO LONGER COVERED UNDER WARRANTY.
Passenger airbag will not come on when you sit in seat
THE CVT TRANSMISSION HAS GIVEN ME MAJOR PROBLEMS AFTER DRIVING FOR 60+ MILES. UP UNTIL THEN IT DOES FINE JUST AS IT HAS ALWAYS DONE AROUND TOWN DRIVING. AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR AND HALF OF DRIVING THE VEHICLES STOPS ALLOWING YOU TO GO OVER 40 MPH AND I FOUND THAT THIS IS CALLED 'LIMP MODE' WHICH IS TO PROTECT THE TRANSMISSION. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE CAR IS NOT EVEN GETTING OVER HEATED WHATSOEVER AT ALL. I HAD THE TRANSMISSION SERVICED BY NISSAN AND THOUGHT THIS WOULD FIX THE ISSUE BUT NO SUCH LUCK. WHEN YOU HAVE A CAR THAT YOU GOT BRAND NEW AND HAVE TAKEN CARE OF IT AND LOW MILEAGE YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO DRIVE SOMEWHERE THAT IS MORE THAN AN HOUR AWAY. MY CAR IS UNABLE TO BE TAKEN ON ANY ROAD TRIP WHATSOEVER. I HAVE HAD MYSELF IN SOME UNFORTUNATE SITUATIONS DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. I HAD THE VEHICLE SERVICED AND WAS TOLD IT WAS GOOD TO GO ON A ROAD TRIP THE NEXT DAY AS I HAD EXPLAINED THE SITUATION TO THEM AND WAS ASSURED THAT I COULD SAFELY MAKE THE TRIP. LOW AND BEHOLD SIXTY MILES OUT OF TOWN I COULD ONLY GO 40MPH ON A HIGHWAY WITH A 75 SPEED LIMIT. NISSAN DEALERSHIP WAS NOT ANYWHERE NEAR ME. I WAS 100 MILES AWAY FROM ANYWHERE I COULD GET HELP WHICH IS ALL NISSAN TOLD ME TO DO WAS BRING IT IN TO A DEALERSHIP! I DID JUST THAT BEFORE MY TRIP TO FIX THIS ISSUE AND IT WASN'T FIXED. WHAT AM I TO DO?
CVT TRANSMISSION FAILURE, MANUFACTURER EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS, 120K MILES BECAUSE THEY USED A BAD PRODUCT. MY VEHICLE HAS 140,000 MILES SO NISSAN DECLINED TO COVER REPAIR COST. MY VEHICLE SHOWED NO SIGN OF ISSUES UNTIL IT SUDDENLY WOULDN'T ENGAGE AT A STOP LIGHT ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. IT IS FRUSTRATING THAT A MANUFACTURE THIS SIZE PUSHES A KNOWN ISSUE UNDER THE RUG INSTEAD OF RECALLING THE DEFECTIVE VEHICLES.
THIS VEHICLE WILL NOT OPERATE IF IT'S DRIVEN FOR MORE THAN 45 MINUTES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE POWER TRAIN GOES INTO A NEUTRAL MODE. IT THEN REQUIRES A PULL OVER ONTO A FREEWAY TO ALLOW IT TO COOL DOWN FOR AT LEAST 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE VEHICLE WILL WORK. IT DOES NOT MATTER WHAT THE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE IS OUTSIDE. WHEN DRIVING AT SPEEDS LOWER THAN 50 MILES PER HOUR IT DOES NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM. PER THE NISSAN MECHANICS THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE CVT AND THE ONLY WAY TO FIX IT IS TO COMPLETELY REPLACE THE CVT. WE HAVE TRIED A TRANSMISSION COOLER BUT THAT DOES NOT WORK. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS IT REQUIRES THE VEHICLE TO BE STOPPED AND TURNED OFF FOR 20 MINUTES WHICH CAN BE A BIG SAFETY PROBLEM AS IT WOULD REQUIRE SITTING ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY OR, IF ABLE, SITTING IN THE VEHICLE IN AN UNSAFE NEIGHBORHOOD.
TOOK VEHICHLE HUNTING. WHEN I RETURNED TO CAR FOUND THAT VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. NO CELL PHONE COVERAGE. HAD TO FLAG DOWN A CAR TO FIND A RIDE BACK TO WHERE I COULD GET CELL COVERAGE AND CALL WIFE FOR A RIDE HOME. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH I FOUND THAT THE STEERING COLUM LOCK WAS THE CULPRIT. ALSO FOUND OUT THAT I WAS NOT ALONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. HOW COULD THIS BE A SECRET, IF THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN AFFECTED AND NISSAN DID NOT DO A FULL RECALL. SHAME ON THEM SOME NEEDS TO MAKE THIS A FULL RECALL. WHAT IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED TO MY WIFE OR KIDS ????
ELECTRONIC STEERING LOCK CONTROL HAS FAILED TWICE. NISSAN HAS REPLACED AT NO CHARGE ONCE, AND HAS A SERVICE CAMPAIGN FOR ALL 2009. HOWEVER, THE 3 YEAR OLD REPLACEMENT FAILED WITH NO WARNING AND LEFT ME STRANDED AND HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED.
BURNING TOO MUCH OIL , HAD TO ADD 3 TO 4 QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGE...PISTON RING PROBLEM CAUSING MISFIRE WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY EVERY 2 MONTHS CAUSING SPARK PLUGS BURNT OUT.
TRANSMISSION FAILED AFTER 143K MILES; VIOLENT SHAKING WHILE TRANSMISSION WAS ENGAGED
STARTING IN APRIL 2016 WE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE WHEN MY WIFE WHILE DRIVING THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST THE ABILITY TO DRIVE, THE ENGINE HAD SHUT DOWN ENTIRELY. AT THE TIME THE VEHICLE HAD JUST OVER 100,000 MILES AND SHE WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY EXPRESS WAY BETWEEN CLEVELAND AND AKRON I-77. SHE COSTED INTO A REST AREA AND WE HAD TO LEAVE THE CAR THERE OVER NIGHT UNTIL WE COULD GET IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD US IT WAS THE O2 SENSOR AND IT COST US ALMOST 1,200 $ TO REPAIR. A FEW MONTHS LATER IN JUNE OF 2016 ON FATHERS DAY WITH OUR ALMOST 2 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN THE CAR, MY FAMILY AND I WERE DRIVING DOWN TO VIRGINIA TO SPEND SOME TIME WITH FRIENDS. WE HAD ANOTHER INCIDENT. WHILE DRIVING IN THE DC AREA ON ANOTHER BUSY EXPRESS WAY I-70 IN MARYLAND OUR CAR AGAIN LOST POWER IN THE ENGINE. WE COULDN'T DRIVE IT ANY WHERE. WE HAD IT WOED BY AAA TO FREDERICK MARYLAND, RENTED A CAR, AND DROVE THE 5 HOURS HOME. A FEW DAYS LATER I DROVE BACK DOWN TO PICK THE CAR UP. THIS TIME IT WAS THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR. IT COST US ALMOST 500$ TO HAVE IT REPAIRED. TO MY UNDERSTANDING BOTH SENSORS BELONG TO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM OF A CAR. ON MONDAY OF THIS WEEK OCTOBER 30TH 2017 THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE MY WIFE WAS DRIVING TO WORK ON BACK ROADS. WHEN WE BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A DAMAGED FRONT EXHAUST PIPE AND MANIFOLD. THE PRICE TO FIX IT IS 2,132.74$. I FELT THAT TO HAVE 3 MAJOR COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE EXHAUST SYSTEM IN OUR CAR IN A YEAR AND A HALF WAS EXCESSIVE SO I INVESTIGATED IT AND DISCOVERED THAT THE 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA WAS RECALLED FOR THE EXACT PROBLEM WE HAVE NOW. FOR SOME REASON OUR VEHICLE WASN'T INCLUDED IN THAT RECALL. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH NISSAN AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING THEY WILL DO TO HELP US OUT WITH THESE REPAIRS. IN ALL 3 SITUATIONS WE WERE DRIVING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. WHILE IDLING, THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTED INTO PARK DUE TO A CRASH AND HEAVY TRAFFIC. AS THE TRAFFIC BEGAN TO MOVE, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE OUT OF PARK, BUT THE SHIFTER JAMMED. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A REAR END COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION SHOP; HOWEVER, IT HAD NOT BEEN DETERMINED WHETHER THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THERE WAS ONE INJURY THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000.
DRIVING HOME FROM WORK LATE AT NIGHT, JUST GOT OFF THE FREEWAY AND THE CAR MADE A LOUD SOUND AND THEN STOPPED MOVING. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THEN CAME ON. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNS PRIOR TO THIS EVENT THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. FORTUNATELY, THIS INCIDENT DID NOT OCCUR 5 MINUTES EARLIER WHILE I WAS STILL ON THE FREEWAY. THE CAR HAD BEEN INTO THE DEALER FOR NEW BRAKES AND CHANGE IN TRANSMISSION FLUID 3 WEEKS PRIOR TO THIS EVENT. AFTER THE EVENT THE DEALER ALLEGEDLY FOUND METAL BELT PIECES IN THE CVT OIL PAN. THE COST OF THE REPAIR WOULD BE $4600, IN EXCESS OF THE BLUE BOOK VALUE OF THE CAR. THE CAR HAD BEEN SERVICED AT NISSAN DEALERS SINCE THE TIME IT WAS PURCHASED. IT WAS PURCHASED WITH THE EXPECTATION FROM THE SALES STAFF THAT THE CAR WOULD GO AT LEAST 200,000 MILES. CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 124000 MILES. NISSAN AGREED TO PAY 50% OF THE COST OF THE NEW TRANSMISSION. HOWEVER, I CHOSE NOT TO REPAIR THE CAR AS THE REMAINING AMOUNT IS COST PROHIBITIVE AND I HAVE LITTLE CONFIDENCE IN NISSAN PRODUCTS AND THEIR SERVICE. IT APPEARS TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS ARE COMMON IN THE ALTIMA AND NISSAN DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT OR TRY TO CORRECT THE ISSUES. THE DEALERS ARE NOT CAPABLE OF DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM WITHOUT AN ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSIS CHARGE OF $135.
CAR WILL NOT START AND KEY LOCK IS ON AS WELL AS THE RED LIGHT WITH THE CAR FLASHING INSIDE OF THE CAR. I LOOKED THE PROBLEM UP AND IT STATED SOMETHING ABOUT IT BEING A STEERING MECHANISM. I WAS PARKED IN A RESTAURANT GOT OUT TO GET MY FOOD AND CAME BACK TO THE CAR AND CAR WOULDN'T START.
VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AFTER BEING SHUT DOWN IN PARKING LOT. DASH DISPLAY SHOWED A KEY LIGHT BUT INFORMATION CONSOLE DID NOT STATE THE PROBLEM. OCCUPANTS IN VEHICLE WERE MOTHER AND 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN 90+ DEGREE HEAT. COULD NOT OPERATE AIR CONDITIONING AND HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED TO RESIDENCE. UPON INSPECTION, FOUND STEERING WHEEL LOCK MALFUNCTIONED. SOLUTION: DISABLE MALFUNCTIONING UNIT COMPROMISING SECURITY SYSTEM WITH POSSIBILITY OF STEERING WHEEL LOCK ACTIVATING WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS VEHICLE MAY BE USED ON HIWAY OR IN LESS THAN OPTIMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. NISSAN SHOULD RECOGNIZE THAT THIS HAZARD WAS NOT COMPLETELY COMMUNICATED TO ALL 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA OWNERS WHEN THE INITIAL RECALL WAS ISSUED THAT ENDED IN JANUARY OF 2017. THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED TO ALL CURRENT OWNERS OF 2009 NISSAN ALTIMAS AND CORRECTED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK MECHANISM. I WAS FIXED ONCE BY DEALERSHIP UNDER EXTENDED WARRENTY THEY SAY. THEY TOLD ME RECALLED. NOW ONLY "CERTAIN 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA" ARE RECALLED AGAIN. MINE IS BROKE AGAIN AND COST IS APPROX $900. THEY SAID I GET NO ASSISTANCE EVEN PAYING FOR IT BECAUSE OF THE MILES ON MY CAR. IT IS STILL THEIR MISTAKE AND FAULTY PART. CAR IS NIT DRIVEABLE
WHEN DRIVING THE CAR DOWN THE HIGHWAY IT FAILS TO SHIFT INTO THE NEXT GEAR. YOU PUSH DOWN ON THE GAS PEDAL AND THE RPMS GO HIGHER BUT THE VEHICLE DOESN'T PICK UP IN SPEED. IT ACTUALLY DECREASES AS YOU ARE GOING UP A HILL. WHEN I TOOK IT TO A DEALERSHIP, THEY TOLD ME THAT IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS THE ECM AND THAT I WAS [XXX] OUT OF LUCK BECAUSE THAT MAKE/MODEL DOESN'T HAVE A RECALL ON IT. THOUGH I FOUND A SERVICE BULLETIN FOR TECHNICIANS ON HOW TO DO A ECM REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE FOR ALL 2004 AND LATER - NISSAN ALTIMAS. SO - THEY KNOW THAT IT IS A DEFECT IN THE AUTOMOBILE. MY CAR LEFT ME STRANDED AS I WENT TO PICK UP MY DAUGHTERS FROM DAYCARE. I HAD TO PAY TO GET MY CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, MY KEY FOB WOULD ALLOW ME TO LOCK MY DOORS AND TURN ON THE ALARM BUT MY CAR WOULD NOT START. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING IN THE COMPLAINTS COMMENTARY AND THE MAJORITY OF YOUR COMPLAINTS ARE FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. NISSAN SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS FAILURE. IT IS OBVIOUS THAT IT HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE WAY THIS MODEL WAS BUILT. THE CUSTOMER SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR MANUFACTURE MISTAKES.
KEY LOCKING MECHANISM STALLED ENGINE

PASSENGER SEAT CUSHION SENSOR HAS MALFUNCTIONED, DISARMING THE ENTIRE AIRBAG SYSTEM. THIS SEAT CUSHION SENSOR HAS BEEN REPLACED 3 YEARS AGO BY OWNER, AND NOW A SECOND OEM SENSOR HAS FAILED. NO INJURY HAS OCCURRED BUT WOULD HATE TO FIND OUT WHAT DEATH OR INJURY COULD BE PREVENTED IF NISSAN OR NHTSA WOULD RECALL THIS ITEM IN 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA WITH ONLY 62000MILES.
