APPARENTLY DUE TO THE FACT THAT MY WARRANTY HAS PASSED & DON'T LIVE IN FL (LA & TX ARE JUST AS HOT) & I'M NOT A REPEAT CUSTOMER (EVEN THOUGH I BOUGHT MINE ON MY PARENTS RECOMMENDATION WHO OWNED ONE), THE DEFECTIVE DASHBOARD NISSAN EXPERIMENTED WITH ON 09-12 ALTIMAS THAT IS STICKY, MELTING, DISINTEGRATING, & CAUSING A DANGEROUS SHINY GLARE ON MY GLASS THAT IS CAUSING VISIBILITY PROBLEMS IS NOT SOMETHING NISSAN IS WORRIED ABOUT. I GUESS I'D HAVE TO DIE IN A HORRIBLE CAR CRASH & MY FAMILY SUE BEFORE NISSAN WOULD LIKE TO RECALL THEIR DEFECTIVE CARS. THIS IS NOT SOMETHING I'VE DONE TO MY CAR. NOT BECAUSE OF WEAR & TEAR I'VE PUT ON MY VEHICLE. I UNDERSTAND WHAT WARRANTIES ARE ALL ABOUT. THIS IS A DEFECTIVE MATERIAL NISSAN USED & WHAT IF ANY FUTURE VEHICLE I PURCHASE FROM NISSAN HAS SOMETHING WRONG & NISSAN CHOOSES NOT TO FIX IT? DOES THAT MAKE ME WANT TO BE A REPEAT CUSTOMER???? TO THIS POINT I LOVED MY NISSAN & FULLY INTENDED TO UPGRADE TO A BIGGER VEHICLE FOR ALL THE CHURCH KIDDOS WE HAUL AROUND. NISSAN HAS TREATED US LIKE INSIGNIFICANT DIRT WHEN THIS IS FACTORY DEFECTED PRODUCT. I'M SURE MANY PEOPLE IN FLORIDA HAD TO COME TOGETHER FOR A GROUP LAWSUIT BEFORE NISSAN TOOK ACTION. THIS IS NOT JUST A SMALL UNIMPORTANT ISSUE. THE GLARE IS UNSAFE AND AS MY HUSBAND WORKS IN CONSTRUCTION WHERE 'SAFETY FIRST' IS THE COMPANY'S MOTTO, WE ARE SPEECHLESS THAT THIS HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED. IF THIS COMPANY DOES NOT STEP UP TO THE PLATE AND MAKE THIS RIGHT, WE WILL BE TAKING OUR BUYER PURCHASING ELSEWHERE. THIS IS NOT WORTH SOMEONE LOSING THEIR LIFE OVER. NISSAN CAN BITE THE BULLET & LOSE $2,000 TO A NEW DASH WHEREAS MOST OF US CAN'T DO THAT OURSELVES. A COMPANY OF THIS SIZE & SUPPOSED REPUTATION COULD & SHOULD TAKE THIS HIT. I'M WORRIED ABOUT IT AFFECTING MY PASSENGER AIRBAG NOW AS WELL! PICKED A DATE BC PROB IS ONGOING AND NO WRECK HAS OCCURRED YET THANKFULLY.
MY 2011 NISSAN ALTIMA HAS LESS THAN 53,000 MILES, FOR THE PAST SEVERAL MONTHS I KEEP GETTING A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THAT COMES ON AND THEN GOES AWAY AFTER ABOUT A WEEK. WHEN CHECKED THE CODE IT IS GIVING IS P0826 WHICH INDICATES "A PROBLEM IN THE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT OF THE UPSHIFT/DOWNSHIFT SWITCH TO THE TRANSMISSION RANGE CORRELATION CIRCUIT. THIS CIRCUIT INCLUDES THE SWITCH, WIRING, CONNECTORS, AND MODE ACTUATOR, AND IS USED ON VEHICLES THAT HAVE MANUALLY SHIFTABLE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. THIS LIGHT COMES ON AT ALL TIMES AND WILL GO OUT AFTER A WEEK OR SO.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE NOISE WAS MOST PREVALENT DURING INCLEMENT WEATHER CONDITIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
MY NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5 S, AT 123,000 MILES, BEGAN LOSING POWER WHILE I WAS DRIVING IN BUSY TRAFFIC. MY CAR EVENTUALLY STOPPED. I HAD MY CAR HAULED TO MY HOME, BY A TOW TRUCK. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED AND GIVEN THE VIN #. THIS PARTICULAR YEAR (2011), WAS NOT ON THE RECALL LIST , BUT PREVIOUS YEARS HAD BEEN ADDED TO THE LIST, FOR THE SAME PROBLEM (CVT TRANSMISSION). I READ MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ONLINE REGARDING NISSANS TROUBLE WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION IN ALL NISSAN CARS FOR ALL YEARS. THE DEALERSHIP ADMITTED THERE WERE PROBLEMS AND COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE CVT TRANSMISSIONS, BUT THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT SINCE MY CAR'S YEAR (2011) WASN'T ON THE LIST. I HAVE TAKEN GREAT CARE OF MY CAR, KEEPING UP WITH THE PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE, SINCE I PURCHASED IT BRAND NEW. ANY CAR LOSING POWER IN BUSY TRAFFIC IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS ISSUE SHOULD HAVE A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT BROUGHT AGAINST NISSAN. IT IS FREQUENTLY TALKED ABOUT ONLINE. A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF NISSAN CUSTOMERS ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE (CVT TRANSMISSION) IN ALL OF THEIR CARS, NO MATTER HOW MANY MILES THE CARS HAVE BEEN DRIVEN. PLEASE HAVE NISSAN TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS FAULTY CVT TRANSMISSION THAT THEY CHOSE TO INSTALL IN ALL OF THEIR CARS, WHICH WAS A BIG MISTAKE AND A DANGER TO THE NISSAN DRIVERS AND THE PUBLIC. CVT TRANSMISSIONS, WHICH ARE EQUIVALENT TO A PULLEY /CHAIN SYSTEM, DO NOT BELONG IN CARS. A MORE DURABLE/APPROPRIATE TRANSMISSION IS NEEDED IN THEIR CARS TO KEEP THE NISSAN DRIVERS AND THE PUBLIC SAFE FROM HARM OR DEATH. THIS ISSUE IS A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY WITH A MECHANIC, ATTEMPTING TO BE REPAIRED WITH A USED CVT TRANSMISSION, WHICH IS ALL I COULD AFFORD AT THIS TIME. I FEEL IT DOESN'T MATTER WHETHER IT'S USED OR NEW, IT'S STILL A CVT TRANSMISSION THAT WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL. RENTING A CAR NOW. I WILL UPLOAD THE REPAIR BILL WHEN THE REPAIR IS COMPLETED.
TRANSMISSION JERKING WHILE IN MOTION OR IDLE. TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY COULDN'T TELL ME WHAT WAS WRONG WITH IT BESIDES THAT I NEEDED TO HAVE MY MODULE (MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR) REPROGRAMMED AND THAT SHOULD TAKE CARE OF IT. WELL THAT DID NOT WORK AND STILL HAVE ISSUES SO RIGHT NOW I'M DRIVING ON A WING AND A PRAYER
WHEN PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL, THE VEHICLE DOES NOT MOVE, IT IS NOT GETTING POWER; PER THE DEALERSHIP THE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED
MY VEHICLE HAS A VERY SHINY, STICKY AND MELTING DASHBOARD. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 YEARS AND HAS BEEN GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE. I CONTACTED NISSAN AND THEY SAID IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY (3 YEARS, 36000 MILES) AND I'M ON MY OWN AND THEY CANNOT HELP ME. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE SHINE PRODUCES A GLARE ALL OVER MY WINDSHIELD AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SEE DRIVING IN THE SUNLIGHT. PLEASE HELP!!
IN JANUARY 2018, I TOOK MY NISSAN ALTIMA TO A NEARBY AUTHORIZED NISSAN DEALER EXPLAINING THAT THE CAR WAS NOT ACCELERATING AFTER STOPPING. WHEN DEPRESSING THE GAS PEDAL, THE CAR ENGINE WOULD NOT IMMEDIATELY ENGAGE AND WOULD STAY IDLE UNTIL SECONDS PASSED TO WHICH POINT THE CAR WOULD ACCELERATE TO THE SPEED LIMIT WHIL DRIVING ON INTERSTATES AND LOCAL ROADS. THE NISSAN DEALER (PORTER NISSAN IN NEWARK DE) INDICATED THE DESPITE MY HAVING BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE REGULARLY (MOST RECENTLY IN DEC. 2017 AND JULY 2017) THEY INDICATED PREVIOUS DIAGNOSTIC TESTS HAD NOT FOUND THAT MY TRANSMISSION WAS IN NEED OF REPAIRS. THEY INDICATED THAT THE REPAIR COST WOULD EXCEED $5,000 WHICH IS CLEARLY A RESULT OF A DEFECTIVE MANUFACTURING PROCESS GIVEN MY CAR HAS UNDER 85,000 MILES. MY EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED AND SO.I CONTACTED NISSAN DIRECTLY AND REPORTED THE CONCERN AND THEY HAVE OPENED A CASE NUMBER BUT HAVEN'T HEARD BACK FROM THEM. I'VE DONE RESEARCH ONLINE AND IT APPEARS NISSAN HAS BEEN SUBJECTED TO FEDERAL LAW SUITS STEMMING FROM TRANSMISSIONS DIFFICULTIES AND IN RESPONSE EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FROM 100K TO 120 MILES FOR NISSAN ALTIMAS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 2003-2010. THEREFORE, I AM REPORTING THESE CONCERNS TO YOUR ORGANIZATION AND WOULD RESPECTFULLY REQUEST YOUR GUIDANCE ON NEXT STEPS.
DASHBOARD IS MELTING, MY HOOD IS PEELING LIKE CRAZY.... SPOKE TO A BODY SHOP OWNER AND HE STATED THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT.... I'M NOTICING CHIPS IN THE PAINT EVERY... POOR JOB ON 2011 ALTIMA'S
I REPLACED ALL FOUR ORIGINAL TIRES ON CAR IN 1/2015. VEHICLE HAD 43K MILES ON; TIRES HAD ALWAYS BEEN ROTATED AND PROPERLY INFLATED TO 32 PSI. DURING THE NEXT MONTHS, I NOTICED INCREASING NOISE AS THE CAR ACCELERATED AND DECELERATED. I TRIED TO DETERMINE THE SOURCE OF THE RYTHMIC THUMPING NOISE BUT WAS UNABLE. I HAD TIRES INSPECTED AND NO PROBLEMS COULD BE FOUND WITH APPROXIMATELY 9,000 MILES ON THE TIRES. I NOTICED INCREASING RHYTHMIC NOISE BUT COULD NOT LOCATE WHICH TIRE WAS THE SOURCE. WE HAD A FLAT TIRE FROM A ROOFING NAIL IN THE RR WHICH REQUIRED THE TIRE TO BE REPLACED. REPLACED TIRE WITH ANOTHER GOODYEAR ASSURANCE. WITH THIS NEW TIRE ON THE RR, I WAS ABLE TO LOCATE THE ROAD RUMBLE TO THE RIGHT FRONT, SO I HAD THAT TIRE REPLACED WITH ANOTHER GOODYEAR ASSURANCE. NOISE SEEMED TO GO AWAY. AS MY WIFE IS THE PRINCIPLE DRIVER OF THIS CAR, I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM HAD BEEN SOLVED WITH THE TWO NEW TIRES (AS ONE HAD BEEN FAILING). ON A 500 MILE TRIP, I NOTICED THAT THE ROAD NOISE (LOW RUMBLE DIRECTLY ASSOCIATED WITH TIRE SPEED, ESPECIALLY AT LOW SPEEDS). I NOW REALIZE THAT THE ROAD NOISE MUST BE COMING FROM ONE/OR BOTH OF THE ORIGINAL TIRES THAT WERE PLACED ON THE CAR IN 2017. ON CLOSE INSPECTION OF THESE TWO TIRES, I HAVE NOTICED MULTIPLE AREAS OF A FINE SPLITTING APPROXIMATELY 1 INCH DOWN THE SIDE OF THE SIDE WALL ON BOTH OF THESE TIRES WHICH MAY BE INDICATIVE OF TREAD SEPARATION. I AM TO THE POINT WHERE I FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE TAKING THIS CAR ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE ASKED THREE DIFFERENT DEALERS ABOUT THIS AND I GET MANY ASSORTED ANSWERS, BUT THE BOTTOM LINE IS THAT THESE TIRES MAKE A RUMBLING NOISE DIRECTLY RELATED TO TIRE SPEED AND SHOW SIGNS OF SIDEWALL CRACKING. I DON'T WANT TO GET TO THE POINT OF AN ENDANGERING BLOWOUT AND AM CONSIDERING REPLACING ALL 4 TIRES IN THE NEAR FUTURE. THIS CAR IS DRIVEN MOSTLY ON LOCAL CITY STREET AND VERY INFREQUENTLY ON HIGHWAYS.
ON JULY 9, 2017 WHEN I WAS DRIVING IN THE HIGH SPEED LINE. MY CAR WENT FROM DOING 65 MILES TO 10 MILES WITH NO WARNING SIGNS. I PUSHED ON THE GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN. AND MY CAR STILL WILL NOT GO OVER 10 MILES. ALMOST GOT MYSELF KILLED. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID. THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. 4 MONTHS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPEN WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY EVERYTHING SHUT DOWN WITH NO WARNING SIGNS. IT WONT GO IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THERE WAS NO WARNING SIGNS. HOW CAN A CAR JUST SHUT DOWN DRIVING. I ONLY HAD THE CAR FOR FOUR MONTHS. NOW (STATELINE NISSAN EAST PROVIDENCE) DOES NOT WANT TO FIX MY CAR. WHEN IT FIRST HAPPEN I STILL HAD THE 30 DAYS WARRANTY. NOW MY WARRANTY RAN OUT, NOW THEY SAID IT IS GOING TO COST ME MONEY TO FIX MY TRANSMISSION. I THINK THIS IS WRONG WHAT THEY ARE DOING TO THEIR CUSTOMER. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE.

THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC STATED THAT THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER (BEN MYNATT NISSAN, 629 JAKE ALEXANDER BLVD S, SALISBURY, NC 28147, (704) 633-7270) STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED TO BE INSPECTED AND DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND ISSUED 8 TSBS ON THE ENGINE, BUT THERE WAS NO MANUFACTURER RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TT *TR
DRIVING ON THE ROAD AT 55 MPH THE NISSAN ALL OF A SUDDEN WOULD NOT GO OVER 20 MPH. AFTER TAKING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE STATED WE NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE IS ONLY 6 YEARS OLD. WE MAINTAINED THE VEHICLE AND FOLLOWED ALL THE GUIDELINE FOR MAINTENANCE. I WAS QUIET SHOCKED TO LEARN THAT THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE FOR NISSAN CVT TRANSMISSIONS. MY CONCERN IS FOR THE SAFETY OF MY 21 YEAR OLD SON WHO WAS DRIVING THIS VEHICLE WHEN THIS HAPPENED. HE WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT THERE WAS NOT A CAR BEHIND HIM. THE ESTIMATE TO REPAIR/REPLACE WAS 5300 BEFORE TAX. YES, I WAS SHOCKED. MY SON'S PREVIOUS VEHICLE WAS A 2002 ACURA THAT HE WAS STILL DRIVING UP UNTIL WE INSISTED HE DRIVE A NEW VEHICLE TO COLLEGE FOR HIS SAFETY.
DASH HAS MELTED TO THE POINT WHERE THE GLARE MAKES DRIVING CHALLENGING.
I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE PRE-OWNED IN 2014. THE VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 120,000 MILES AND IS ONLY 6 YEARS OLD. I PUT A BRAND NEW BATTERY IN THE VEHICLE A COUPLE WEEKS AGO, I STARTED TO NOTICE WHEN I PUT THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE IT WOULD JOLT, THEN IT STARTED DOING THE SAME THING WHEN I PUT IN DRIVE. I HAD TO PULL OVER WITH MY BABY IN THE CAR AND GOT THE VERHICLE TOWED BECAUSE I WAS SCARED, AND NOW ALL OF A SUDDEN MY TRANSMISSION IS BAD! THE VEHICLE DROVE FINE AND NOW SINCE THE BATTERY CHANGE THE TRANSMISSION. ITS NOT FAIR THAT THEY ONLY COVER CERTAIN VEHICLES WHICH INCLUDE CVT TRANSMISSIONS (ALL SHOULD BE COVERED) THIS IS THEIR FAULT IN MAKING THESE VEHICLES THIS WAY AND I WISH I HAD KNOWN I WOULD HAVE NEVER PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE
THE DASHBOARD ON MY 2011 NISSAN ALTIMA IS MELTING. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR MONTHS. THE MELTING AREAS BECOME SOFT, STICKY, CRACKED AND SHINY. IF THE DASHBOARD IS NOT REPLACED THE GLARE CREATED BY THE SHINY AREAS WILL MAKE THE CAR HAZARDOUS TO DRIVE AND THE MELTING WILL ULTIMATELY DAMAGE THE EQUIPMENT COVERED BY THE DASHBOARD - EQUIPMENT THE CAR NEEDS TO OPERATE SAFELY AND EQUIPMENT THE DASHBOARD IS DESIGNED TO PROTECT. A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR 2008 AND 2009 NISSAN ALTIMAS IN WHICH THEIR MELTING DASHBOARDS WERE REPLACED. I HAVE SEEN INTERNET POSTS/COMPLAINTS BY OTHER NISSAN ALTIMA OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AS MINE INVOLVING OTHER YEARS. I HAVE LIVED IN FLORIDA ALMOST MY ENTIRE LIFE AND HAVE NEVER HAD A DASHBOARD REACT THIS WAY; NEITHER HAVE ANY FAMILY MEMBERS OR FRIENDS. I HAVE TALKED WITH THE DEALER AND ALSO REGISTERED A COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN (I HAVE THE COMPLAINT NUMBER AND THE DEALER SENT PICTURES) BUT NEITHER ARE WILLING TO HELP. THE COST OF REPLACING THE DASHBOARD IS OVER $2000. ANOTHER MORE ENCOMPASSING RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED REQUIRING NISSAN TO REPLACE ALL MELTING DASHBOARDS REGARDLESS OF YEAR. DOING SO WILL ENSURE THE SAFETY OF THE DRIVER AND THE PROTECTION OF THE CAR AND ITS EQUIPMENT - PROTECTIONS RIGHTFULLY EXPECTED BY THE DRIVER AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. SINCE THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM I HAVE NOTED BELOW THE APPROXIMATE DATE THAT I ACTUALLY REALIZED THE DASHBOARD WAS MELTING.
HELLO, MY CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE STARTING FROM THE ENGINE. TRANSMISSION PROBLEM CAME OUT OF NOWHERE AND CAUGHT ON FIRE
WHILE IN MOTION THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT COMES ON AND IT WILL NOT LET US ACCELERATE ABOVE 2500 RPM. THE CAR JOLTS OR STUTTERS NOT CHANGING INTO A HIGHER GEAR. WITH IT BEING A CVT TRANSMISSION I DON'T KNOW HOW THAT WORKS BUT THE ONLY WAY WE WERE ABLE TO GET HOME FROM THE MIDDLE OF OUR TRIP BACK FROM GA DUE TO HURRICANE IRMA WAS TO USE THE OPTIONAL GEAR SHIFT MODE AND SLOWLY ACCELERATE THROUGH THE GEARS WHILE NOT GOING OVER 2500 RPM. MY BROTHER LOOKED INTO IT AND SAID IT MAY BE A FAULTY SENSOR.
FEW WEEKS AGO I NOTICED A WHINING NOISE FROM MY CAR, AND THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD MY BROTHER LOOK AT MY CAR BECAUSE HE WORKS ON CARS AND IS A MECHANIC AND HE SAID IT IS MY TRANSMISSION. THE CAR IS 6 YEARS OLD AND THIS SHOULDN'T BE HAPPENING.
SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINS ON. CODE PO101. MASS AIR FLOW. CHANGED THE AIR FILTER, AND THE MAF SENSOR BUT LIGHT REMAINS ON BULENTIN NTB12-051D REGARDING THIS ISSUE STATES SHOULD GET THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE REPROGRAMED. I THINK IT SHOULD BE NISSIAN RECALL AND THEY SHOULD COVER IT.
AT 93,000 MILES THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $3,700. THE ONLY REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION COST MORE THAN $2,500 IS SOLD BY NISSAN AND ONLY COMES WITH A 12 MONTH WARRANTY. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS. WHY DOES THE 120,000 MILE WARRANTY STOP WITH THE 2010 MODEL WHEN THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS IN THE MODELS AFTER 2010?
ALL 4 LOCKS SOMETIMES WILL NOT LOCK/UNLOCK, CREATING A SAFETY CONCERN WHEN YOU NEED TO EXIT THE VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY.
THE VEHICLE WAS HAVING A HARD TIME GETTING PAST 2ND GEAR BEING TOLD IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL MISFIRE AND CAUSING THE CAR TO JERK UNTIL IT WAS ABLE TO HIT 2ND. THAT WAS REPAIRED BY OUR LOCAL AUTO REPAIR SHOP. THE OTHER ISSUE IS THE DASHBOARD. THE DASHBOARD IS LITERALLY MELTING AWAY AND HAS BECOME SLIMY AND STICKY. IT IS WORKING IT'S WAY DOWN TO THE STEERING WHEEL AREA AND AIR VENTS. I'M SURE THAT IS SOME SORT OF HAZARD.

POSSIBLE CVT TRANSMISSION OVER-HEATING/FAIL-SAFE ISSUE? I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AFTER DRIVING FOR 2 HOURS AND MY ENGINE STARTED MAKING A 'WHIRRING' NOISE AND I HAD TROUBLE ACCELERATING. THE SPEED LIMIT WAS 70 BUT AS MUCH AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATE, IT WOULD BARELY GET PASSED 50MPH. THIS ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WITH A SEMI-TRUCK AS WE APPROACHED A HILL BECAUSE I COULD BARELY GET UP IT. I HAD TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY AND LET THE CAR REST FOR A WHILE. I HAD TO DRIVE ANOTHER 2 HOURS TO GET HOME AND AFTER ANOTHER HOUR, IT DID THE SAME THING. SOON AFTER, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THE ONLY THING THEY COULD SUGGEST WAS TO GIVE ME A NEW TRANSMISSION! I GOT A SECOND OPINION FROM A TRANSMISSION REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SAID THAT POSSIBLY ADDING A SECONDARY COOLING SYSTEM WOULD HELP BUT THEY COULDN'T GUARANTEE THAT WOULD FIX THE ISSUE. FROM MY RESEARCH, IT SEEMS THAT A REASON FOR THIS HAPPENING IS THAT THE CVT TRANSMISSION PRODUCES TOO MUCH HEAT FOR THE COOLING SYSTEM TO HANDLE AND EVENTUALLY GOES INTO A FAIL-SAFE MODE THAT CAPS THE ACCELERATION POWER OF THE CAR, IN ORDER TO PROTECT THE TRANSMISSION FROM BEING DAMAGED. I COULD UNDERSTAND THE NEED FOR THE FAIL-SAFE TO KICK IN IN EXTREME CIRCUMSTANCES BUT NOT AFTER DRIVING FOR 2 HOURS AT REGULAR HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THIS IS NOT NORMAL AND EXTREMELY AGGRAVATING. I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS A COMMON SAFETY ISSUE WHICH AFFECTS BOTH NEW AND OLDER CARS AND NISSAN CHOOSES TO DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR MORE THAN AN HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY BECAUSE IT STARTS TO MAKE THAT 'WHIRRING' NOISE AND I KNOW IT WON'T BE LONG BEFORE THE FAIL-SAFE KICKS IN. THIS HAS BEEN BEYOND DISAPPOINTING AND EVEN MORE SO THAT NISSAN WON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY TO IMPROVE THEIR CVT ISSUES AND PROVIDE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS. I OWN MY CAR OUTRIGHT BUT THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. NO OPTION FOR THAT ROUTE. VERY INCONVENIENT.

APPROXIMATELY 4-6 WEEKS AGO THE CAR STARTED TO JERK OCCASIONALLY. THEN IT BECAME MORE PREDOMINANT. WE JUST FOUND OUT TODAY THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS NO GOOD AND THAT THERE IS A HISTORY OF CVT TRANSMISSION FAILURE. THE COST TO REPAIR IS $3900. THE TRADE-IN VALUE IS $2000.
MY 2011 NISSAN ALTIMA PRESENTED PROBLEMS OF LOUD NOISES AND VIBRATIONS. IT EVENTUALLY SOUNDED HORRIFIC. THE SOUND WAS WORSE FROM START TO STOP. UPON INSPECTION A BOLT CAME OUT OF THE ENGINE MOUNT AND MY ENGINE WAS MOVING AROUND.
TIMING BELT TENSIONER MAKES A RATTLING NOISE WHEN I FIRST START THE CAR. THERE HAS BEEN NO MAINTANENCE LIGHTS GOING OFF INSIDE THE CAR AND AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND COMING TO A COMPLETE STOPPING POINT A STRONG BURNED RUBBER ODOR IS PRESENT.

ONLY 39,400 MILES ON VEHICLE (60,000 MILE POWERTRAIN) BUT PAST HE 60 MONTH WARRANTY BY 5 MONTHS. NISSAN WILL NOT COVER. NISSAN NA CONSUMER AFFAIRS CONTACTED, RESEARCHED AND ALSO DENIED. WILL NOT COVER AND WILL NOT PROVIDE ANY PARTIAL ASSISTANCE. CAR IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, DRIVEN LIGHTLY AND NO WAY TRANSMISSION SHOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED AT 39,000 MILES. EVERYTIME I STOPPED AT STOP SIGN OR SLOW SPEED AND TRY TO ACCELERATE THE CAR WOULD SHAKE VIOLENTLY (ALL CAPTURED ON VIDEO) AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THIS WAS VERY SCARY. NO SERVICE LIGHT EVER CAME ON!!!! I CONTINUE THE APPROXIMATELY 3-4 MILE DRIVE HOME AND IT WOULD DO THE SAME EVERY TIME I SLOWED OR STOPPED. I HAD TO DRIVE UP A VERY STEEP HILL AND I DID NOT THINK MY CAR WAS GOING TO MAKE IT. THE RESEARCH I HAVE DONE AND THE INFORMATION SHARED TO ME BY SEVERAL MECHANICS STATE THAT THE 2007-2010 ALTIMAS WARRANTY FOR THE CVT WERE EXTENDED FROM 60,000 TO 120,000. THIS SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED THE 2011 ALSO, BECAUSE THE CVT PROBLEMS CONTINUE. MY CAR HAS ONLY 104,000 MILES ON IT AND SHOULD NOT NEED A 4,000 TRANSMISSION. I HAVE OWNED A MAXIMA AND SENTRA IN PAST AND THEY WERE REALLY GREAT CARS. ALL OF THE RESEARCH THAT I HAVE DONE REVEALS TO ME THAT JATCO WHICH NISSAN HAS 75% OWNERSHIP OF SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE AND LIABLE FOR THESE ISSUES. THE GOVERNMENT SHOULD PROTECT THE PUBLIC FROM THIS MONOPOLY AND HELP THE LITTLE GUY. IT DOES NOT TAKE MUCH RESEARCH TO KNOW THAT THERE IS A MAJOR ISSUE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE LOCAL DEALER FOR ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,836.
