THE DASH ON MY 2012 ALTIMA HAS BEGUN TO MELT. THE DASH INITIALLY STARTED OUT BEING TACKY WHEN MY SON WAS AWAY AT COLLEGE IN NC, WHICH I THOUGHT WAS UNUSUAL. UPON RETURNING TO FL THIS PAST SUMMER, IT GOT WORSE. NOW THE DASH IS GIVING OFF A CHEMICAL SMELL WITH A HORRIBLE GLARE. THE GLARE FROM THE WINDSHIELD IS MAKING FOR UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS, ESPECIALLY IN THE FL SUN. NISSAN ACKNOWLEDGED THE MELTING DASH ISSUE IN 2008 2009 MODELS AND AGREED TO REPLACE THOSE DASHES FOR VEHICLES IN FL UNDER A LAWSUIT SETTLED IN 2017. LOOKING AT THE COMPLAINTS ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE, IT APPEARS THAT THE MELTING DASH ISSUE HAS CONTINUED TO BE A PROBLEM PAST THE 2008 2009 MODEL YEARS.
I TOOK THE CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP BECAUSE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WAS TOLD THERE IS A RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE AND THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT TELL ME. I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET GOING THE SPEED LIMIT.
PURCHASED CAR AUGUST 8, 2020. WAS DRIVING IN THE CITY WHEN ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON 08/24. TOOK THE CAR TO NEBORHOOD TIRE PRO'S IN DECATUR, GA. HAD A DIAGNOSTIC DONE. CAR RECEIVED 3 CODES. ONE CODE WAS P1718. WAS TOLD THE TRANSMISSION WAS BAD. TOOK IT BACK TO NISSAN STONE MOUNTAIN. HEALTH WAGES THE SERVICE MANGER AFFIRMED IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION.
I HAD DRIVEN ABOUT 350 MILES USING THE CRUISE CONTROL I WOULD ACCELERATE OR CANCEL AND THEN ACCELERATE WITH TRAFFIC THIS WORKED THROUGHOUT MY TRIP UNTIL I REACHED BETWEEN 350 TO 400 MILES THEN IT STOPPED WORKING FOR ACCELERATION AT 75 MILES AN HOUR WOULD NOT GO ANY FASTER WITH THE STEERING COLUMN CONTROLS OR THE GAS PEDAL
ON 8/17/2020 AT 11:30AM I WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH WHEN EVERYTHING IN MY CAR, INCLUDING THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN WITH NO WARNING. I QUICKLY PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND AFTER 2 ATTEMPTS MY CAR RESTARTED WITH NO OTHER PROBLEMS THAT DAY. ON 8/18/2020 AT APPROXIMATELY 1750HRS AFTER EXITING THE EXPRESSWAY, AGAIN MY CAR SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING 10-15 MPH, AFTER 2 ATTEMPTS MY IT RESTARTED. THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS 46,000 MILES, I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND THE CAR IS SERVICED AS SCHEDULED BY MANUFACTURER. I CURRENTLY HAVE AN APPOINTMENT ON 8/28/2020 WITH NISSAN OF QUEEN FOR AN EVALUATION OF THIS PROBLEM.
CAR AUTOMATICALLY REDUCES SPEED FROM 65 MPH TO 35 MPH WHILE IN MOTION ON HIGHWAY AND WILL NOT INCREASE SPEED WHEN DRIVING AT AN HOUR OR BETTER AT 65 MPH OR GREATER. WHEN IT AUTODECELERATES IT MAKES A WHINING NOISE AND WILL NOT ACCELERATE AGAIN UNTIL YOU TURN THE ENGINE OFF AND ALLOW THE CAR TO SIT FOR 30 MINS OR BETTER.
DASH HAD BECOME TACKY AND SHINY, PRODUCING GLARE WHEN DRIVING TOWARD THE SUN. BECOMES WORSE ON HOT DAYS. DOES NOT RESOLVE, LINT AND ANYTHING ELSE STICKS TO IT.
MY 2012 NISSAN ALTIMA WAS BOUGHT AT 40K MILES. IT RAN GOOD FOR WAS MAINTAINED. AT 108K MILES THE TRANSMISSION STARTED ACTING UP. IT WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO 6TH GEAR (CVT TRANSMISSION) AND WOULD EVENTUALLY LOSE POWER AND NOT ACCELERATE. I HAD IT DIAGNOSED AND FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THESE TRANSMISSION BUT THEY WERE ONLY FOR THE PRIOR YEAR MODELS SO THERE WAS NOTHING I CAN DO. IT IS NOW AT 120K MILES AND IT HASN'T GOTTEN SO BAD I CAN'T DRIVE IT ON THE HIGHWAY. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND HAD IT COMPLETELY DIAGNOSED AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT THREW WHAT THEY REFER TO AS A 'DEATH CODE' AND SAID IT NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT'S A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY DIES. I'M A STUDENT AND IN THE MILITARY SO I STAY VERY BUSY AND MY CAR NOT BEING RELIABLE HAS PUT A STOP TO EVERYTHING. A TRANSMISSION GOING BAD AT 120K MILES SHOULD NOT BE A THING. I TRULY FEEL CHEATED BY NISSAN WITH THIS CAR.
DASHBOARD LOOKS ALMOST MELTED AND VERY STICKY
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HIS SON WAS DRIVING ABOUT 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED TO 60 MPH WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO REPLACED A MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR. THE FAILURE RECURRED ABOUT THREE WEEKS LATER. THE DEALER WAS NOT CALLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE CONTACT REFERENCED A SERVICE BULLETIN: NTB13-079D DATED NOVEMBER 25, 2015. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 215,000.
ONGOING ISSUE WHERE VEHICLE LOSES POWER WHEN DRIVING FURTHER DISTANCES (30-40 MILES) OR UPHILL IN THE MOUNTAINS AND IS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. DRIVER IS FORCED TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND WAIT UNTIL VEHICLE CAN COOL DOWN AND GAIN POWER AGAIN. THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION. NISSAN SHOULD HAVE ISSUED A RECALL FOR THESE TRANSMISSIONS OR EXTENDED THE WARRANTY AS IT IS AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE SITUATION.
VEHICLE WAS FINE AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN IT WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON DUE TO PROBLEMS WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION. *TR
MY VEHICLE IS ONLY 8 YEARS OLD AND RECENTLY THE AIRBAG LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH ON THE DASHBOARD , WHICH IS THE SIGN OF A PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP (ELK GROVE NISSAN, CALIFORNIA) AND PAID TO FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM. AFTER PERFORMING THE DIAGNOSTICS, I WAS TOLD THAT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM WAS FAULTY AND THAT IT WOULD COST ME $1500 TO REPAIR. MY QUESTION TO THEM WAS: " WHY SHOULD I PAY FOR THE REPAIR IF THE AIRBAG IS FAULTY?" I ALSO SAID THAT IF THE AIRBAG IS FAULTY, IT SHOULD BE RECALLED. THEY INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO BECAUSE THERE WAS NO RECALL ON MY VEHICLE. I HAVE SINCE CHECKED THE SERVICE AND MAINTENANCE GUIDE FOR MY VEHICLE AND THERE IS NOWHERE IN THE BOOKLET THAT STATES THAT THE AIRBAG IS A MAINTENANCE ITEM FOR THE OWNER. THE AIRBAG IS A SAFETY ITEM AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED BY THE MANUFACTURER JF IT IS FAULTY AS IS WITH MY VEHICLE. WHAT IS FRIGHTENING IS THAT THE RED LIGHT IS STILL FLASHING ON THE DASHBOARD AND I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN IF I CONTINUE TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. THE AIRBAG IS FAULTY AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPAIRED ASAP BEFORE SOMETHING VERY SERIOUS HAPPENS. SINCE AUGUST 2020, I HAVE TRADED PHONE CALLS, EMAILS AND LETTERS WITH NISSAN TO NO AVAIL. I AM THEREFORE APPEALING TO YOU TO KINDLY INTERVENE TO RESOLVE THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE FIND ATTACHED, COPIES OF COMMUNICATION WITH NISSAN FOR YOUR INFORMATION AND REVIEW.
THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT FOR THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE STARTED GOING OFF ANY TIME THE CAR IS ON - INDICATING THERE IS NO AIRBAG FUNCTIONING EVEN WHEN SOMEONE IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. TOOK THE CAR TO NISSAN DEALERSHIP, AND THEY SAY THE WHOLE SEAT CUSHION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE SENSOR IS NOT WORKING. COST ABOUT $1000. *TR
THE DASH IS STICKY AND GLOSSY WHICH THROWS A GLARE ON MY WINDSHIELD. I END UP WITH A SMALL AREA OF THE WINDSHIELD TO SEE OUT OF. I HAVE TO SIT UP TALL OR LEAN OVER IN ORDER TO FIND A SPOT TO GET A CLEAR VIEW IN ORDER TO SEE THE ROAD. HOLDING THE POSITION TO SEE FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME IS A STRAIN ON THE BODY. I'M HAVING TROUBLE SEEING WHERE I AM GOING AND AM WORRIED I WILL HAVE AN ACCIDENT. *TR
THE DASHBOARD IS MELTING. THE DASH IS STICKY AND IS TURNING TO A GOOEY SUBSTANCE. IT IS SHINY AND IS CAUSING GLARE ON WINDSHIELD. IT STARTED WHERE DASH MEETS WINDSHIELD AND QUICKLY SPREAD TOWARD STEERING WHEEL. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO TWO LOCAL DEALERSHIPS WHO SAID THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING OTHER THAN REPLACE THE DASHBOARD AT $2700 SINCE THE CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I CONTACTED NISSAN CUSTOMER CARE AND I HAVE A CASE NUMBER. THEY SAID NO ONE ELSE HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS FOR THE 2012 YEAR ALTHOUGH I AM SEEING SOME COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE. THEY TOO SAID THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING SINCE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. WHEN I SUGGESTED IT WAS DEFECTIVE AND OBVIOUSLY WAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE LAWSUIT THAT WAS SETTLED, THEY GENTLEMAN SAID THIS WAS NOT THE SAME YEAR. MY CAR WAS ORIGINALLY PURCHASED IN FLORIDA, THE STATE OF THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT, BUT I NOW LIVE IN GA. A DASHBOARD SHOULD NOT MELT WHEN EXPOSED TO THE SUN! NISSAN SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DEFECTIVE PRODUCT.
Transmission spudders at times. It is very delayed when pulling out sometimes. Turning the car off and back on might help sometimes. Car will go in limp mode. Nissan dealer said it was the Transmission. There is a big safety concern because when you push the gas trying to cross an intersection, it might lag behind and not go. This could result in being hit. This has been a great car but the cat is complete junk and Nissan should be ashamed of themselves for this. If they get enough law suits they may change something. Well maybe, They don't care about peoples lives.
THIS CAR HAS JUST 101,000 MILES AND THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT DOING THE OVERDRIVE. I READ INTO IT AND ALOT OF OTHER PEOPLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEM NISSAN SHOULD TAKE THE VEHICLES AND FIX IT ITS NOT LIKE WE PAY 5 BUCKS FOR A CAR ITS NOT EVEN PAID OFF AND I ALREADY HAVE PROBLEMS. I WENT TO SEE WHAT WRONG AND ITS THE TORQUE CONVERTER CLUTCH. *TR
THE ENGINE HAS ALWAYS MADE EXCESSIVE NOISE WHEN ACCELERATING. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED THAT IT HAS BEEN THE TRANSMISSION AND IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION IN NISSAN ALTIMAS. I FEEL THAT GIVEN THE SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS IT TAKES TO FIX THAT NISSAN SHOULD EITHER PUT OUT A RECALL OR COMPENSATE FOR THIS AS IT CAUSES THE DRIVER TO BE STRANDED ONE THE TRANSMISSION DOES EVENTUALLY FAIL. *TR
DASHBOAD IS MELTING FROM ONE SIDE OF THE VEHICLE TO THE OTHER AND EXTENDS FROM THE WINDSHIELD PAST THE VENTS. THE AREA IS SO SHINNY AND GLARE IS SO GREAT THAT IT MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SEE CLEARLY DAY OR NIGHT.

WHILE DRIVING FOR 1/2 HOUR OR MORE MY CAR LOSES POWER THIS HAS CAUSED MY CAR TO DIE IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AND ALMOST GETTING HIT. IN ORDER TO GET POWER BACK YOU HAVE TO SHUT THE CAR OFF AND LET IT SIT. WE HAVE CHECKED ALL FLUIDS REPLACED SPARK PLUGS BATTERY ALTERNATOR FILTERS AND IT STILL DOES THIS. UPON RESEARCHING THIS I HAVE SEEN OTHER COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR 2012 NISSAN AND DUE TO IT BEING A SAFETY HARVARD SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED.
THE AIR BAG SWITCH UNDER THE SEAT IS DEFECTIVE.
MY DASHBOARD IS STARTING TO MELT. THIS YEAR, IN EARLY MARCH I NOTICED IT WAS VERY STICKY AND REALLY SOFT TO THE TOUCH. MY HAND WOULD DENT IT WITH SLIGHT PRESSURE. A SLIGHT GLARE STARTED TO DEVELOP IN THE WINDSHIELD AND IT WORSENED DURING THE SUMMER. I DO NOT USE ANY CHEMICAL CLEANERS, JUST WIPE MY CAR WITH A DAMP CLOTH, SO I WAS AT A LOSS UNTIL I GOT ONLINE RECENTLY AND FOUND THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH ALTIMA MODELS. THE ISSUE WAS NOTICED WHILE PARKED OUTSIDE IN MY DRIVEWAY AND IS WORSE DURING HOT MONTHS, THOUGH IT IS NOW COLDER OUTSIDE AND THERE IS STILL MILD STICKINESS AND GLARE. I EXPECT IT TO WORSEN AGAIN IN THE SPRING/SUMMER TEXAS HEAT. I HAVE JUST RECENTLY CONTACT NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THEY DO NOT SOUND LIKE THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THE ISSUE IN THE 2012 MODEL, THOUGH SEVERAL CAR WEBSITES HAVE OTHRE OWNERS NOTING ISSUES BEYOND THE CLASS ACTION SUITE IN FLORIDA OVER THE 2007-2009 ALTIMA MODELS WITH MELTING DASHBOARDS. THE EMAIL FROM NISSAN IS ATTACHED AND I WILL RESPOND WITH THE INFORMATION THEY REQUESTED.

NOW I'M FACING EITHER PAYING $3400 FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION OR JUST TRASHING A PERFECTLY WELL KEPT UP CAR. I'VE ALWAYS MADE SURE TO HAVE MY CAR COMPLETELY SERVICED AND MAINTAINED ON TIME. AFTER THIS I WILL NEVER BUY FROM NISSAN AGAIN. THESE CVT TRANSMISSIONS ARE HORRIBLE. NISSAN IS LOOKING AFTER THEIR PROFIT INSTEAD OF RELIABILITY. THIS IS A 2012 ALTIMA WITH 125000 MILES.
STRONG EXHAUST ODOR INSIDE CAR.CRACKED EXHAUST MANIFOLD WAS FOUND,SECOND ONE I WILL HAVE TO PUT ON CAR,FIRST WAS DISCOVERED AT APPROXIMATELY 85/88000 MILES.READ FORUMS AND DISCOVERED EARLIER VERSIONS WERE RECALLED FOR SAME PROBLEM AND SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM AMONG LATER MODELS.GOT A HEADACHE FROM STRONG SMELL.VERY NOTICEABLE WHEN CAR IS STATIONARY/IDLING.
I live in Texas and the heat is causing the dashboard to melt. This is not a cosmetic issue, the glare from the dashboard makes it very hard to see when driving and is serious safety concern. Also the melting may be problematic if the airbags need to deploy because the integrity of the dashboard is compromised. I am attach thing letters from the center for auto safety which are exactly describing the scenario.
SRS SUPPLEMENTAL AIRBAG LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING WHEN STARTING THE CAR UP. FOR WHILE I PUT UP WITH THIS, BUT I WAS CONCERNED. I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND NUMEROUS OTHER PEOPLE REPORTING SIMILAR PROBLEMS. I EVENTUALLY FOUND A PROCEDURE TO RESET THE WARNING AND FOR A TIME THIS WORKED. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE LOCAL NIISSAN DEALER WAS TOLD THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANCY SENSOR WAS FAULTY AND THAT TO FIX IT, THE ENTIRE LOWER SEAT CUSHION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED FOR APPROXIMATELY $2000 WHICH I THOUGHT WAS OUTRAGEOUS. THEY ALSO TOLD ME MY ENTIRE AIRBAG SYSTEM WOULD BE INOPERATIVE UNTIL THIS SENSOR WAS FIXED, WHICH DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TO ME. WHY WOULD FAULTY PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR DISABLE ALL AIRBAGS. I THINK NISSAN SHOULD RECALL CARS WITH THESE KINDS PROBLEMS AND NOT STICK CUSTOMERS WITH REPLACING $2000 SEAT CUSHIONS.
NISSAN ALTIMA 2012 2.5S MODEL AT 115000 MILES :WITHOUT INDICATION THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY COULD NOT SHIFT PROPERLY WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED AND RPM WOULD GO UP TILL 4000-5000, ALSO THE VEHICLE COULD NOT RUN OVER 65MPH: THE SPEED WAS LOCKED UP WHILE RPM KEPT GOING UP TILL 3500-4000 I HAD A NEAR MISS FROM AN SEVERE FREEWAY ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF THAT PROBLEM AND DARE NOT DRIVE ON FREEWAY AFTER THAT. THE TRANSMISSION WAS FAILING AND THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE FAILURE PATTERN WAS EXACTLY THE SAME AS OLDER MODELS(03-10) OF NISSAN ALTIMA, WHERE THE WARRANTY IS EXTENDED TO 120000 MILES FOR TRANSMISSION. COST MORE THAN 3500 TO REPAIR AND ALL THE MECHANICS I MET WOULD CALL THOSE TRANSMISSION UNITS JUNK AND SOME OF THEM HAD MULTIPLE NISSAN ALTIMA UNDER REPAIR WITH THE EXACT SAME TRANSMISSION PROBLEM.
AFTER 43K MILES AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATES WHEN MY WIFE IS SEATED AND CAR IS BEING DRIVEN. DEALER SAYS WEIGHT REQUIREMENT FOR PASSENGER IS 120 LBS. WHAT IS FEDERAL REQUIREMENT?
DASHBOARD HAS BECOME PROGRESSIVELY STICKY AND SHINY, CAUSING A GLARE DURING DAYLIGHT HOURS WHICH REDUCES VISIBILITY AND IS A SAFETY HAZARD
THE CAR HAS BROKE DOWN AND CAN NOT BE DROVE. IT HAS STALLED ON US NUMEROUS TIME DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN NEVADA. WE HAVE ALMOST BEEN HIT BY SEMI TRUCK. THE TRANSMISSION HAS TO BE REPLACED NOW AND THE CAR IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY TO FIX. IT HAS 123,000 ON IT.

2012 NISSAN ALTIMA CVT TRANSMISSION ISSUES. ALTIMA HAS RECALLED FROM 2007-2010 AND THEN AGAIN AFTER 2012 FOR THE CVT TRANSMISSIONS. MINE IS DOING THE SAME THINGS AND NISSAN DOESN'T HAVE A WAY FOR ME TO CHECK THE FLUIDS. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY CAN FIX THE PROBLEM FOR OVER $7000. I'M IN THE DEALERSHIP RIGHT NOW AND HE SAYS AGAIN THAT HE CAN'T CHECK THE FLUIDS BUT THAT I CAN REPLACE IT IF I WANT BUT THAT IT MIGHT MAKE IT WORSE. THE VEHICLE SOMETIMES DOESN'T SHIFT AND ENGINE REVS WITHOUT ACCELERATION AT ANY SPEED. PULLING INTO TRAFFIC IS VERY DIFFICULT AND IF I AM UNABLE TO PASS IF NEEDED BECAUSE SOMETIMES IT ACCELERATES AND SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T.

NISSAN ALTIMA 2012 S HAS A BUG ON THE TRANSMISSION. I HAVE TALKED TO A DEALERSHIP LATELY ABOUT HOW I CAN MAINTAIN MY TRANSMISSION TO AVOID THE PROBLEM HE TOLD ME TO CHANGE THE FLUID AFTER 60K MILES. WHICH I DID RIGHT AWAY BECAUSE I WAS THE SECOND OWNER. I'M SUPPRISE AT 127K MILES, MY TRANSMISSION BROKEN DOWN. AND ALL MECHANICS I BE BEEN TO TELL ME IS A FACTORY ISSUE AND NISSAN KNOWS IT. THEY SAID THE CVT TRANSMISSION MOSTLY COME TO FAIL ON THAT NISSAN AFTER YOU PASS THE 100K MILES. (FACTORY ISSUE WITH THAT CVT TECHNOLOGY THEY SAID). I CALL NISSAN TO SUBMIT THE PROBLEM, BUT UNFORTUNATELY THEY TOLD THEY CAN'T DO NOTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE OF THE HIGH MILEAGE. THE BAD TRANSMISSION IS VERY DANGEROUS ON THE PUBLIC ROAD, I HAVE BEEN IN THE SITUATION ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY WHERE I COULDN'T PASS THE 18 WHEELER AND ALMOST CAUSE A CRASH BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT WORKING PROPERLY.
HELLO TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN, I'M POSTING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE OF AN ISSUE THIS VEHICLE HAS AND I'VE HEARD MANY OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. ABOUT AN HOUR OR TWO OF DRIVING THE CAR OR GOING UP A PRETTY STEEP HILL ON A HOT DAY THE CAR LOOSES POWER COMPLETELY AND WILL HAVE TROUBLE TO GO OVER 45MPH AND WHAT I'VE READ UP ON THIS ISSUE THE VEHICLE COME WITH A SENSOR THAT MAKES THE CAR GO INTO A SAFETY MODE WHEN THE TRANSMISSION GETS TOO HOT AND IT'S DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION NOT HAVING A FLUID COOLER. I'VE HAD A COUPLE CLOSE CALLS IN THE FREEWAY WHERE CARS HAVE CAME REALLY CLOSE TO REAR ENDING ME IN THE FREEWAY WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR AND I FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF MY AS WELL AS OTHERS AND WOULDN'T WANT ANYONE GETTING SUED DUE TO AN ISSUE NISSAN HAS WITH THEIR VEHICLE
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY FOR OVER AN HOUR AT SPEEDS 60+ MPH THE TRANSMISSION WILL BEGIN TO WHINE, WHILE AT THE SAME TIME THE RPMS WILL SKYROCKET. THE CAR WILL RAPIDLY DECELERATE WHILE THIS IS HAPPENING. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES ON ROAD TRIPS WHEN THE CAR WAS AT 20K MILES AND CONTINUES TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN NOW THAT THE CAR IS NEARING 100K MILES.
THIS WAS A USED PRE-CERTIFIED CAR, PURCHASED FROM THE DEALER IN WHICH DID NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES UNTIL ITS WARRANTY WAS PRACTICALLY NO LONGER VALID. THE CARS ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STARTED TO HAVE ISSUES. THE ISSUES WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM STARTED WITH THE USB PORT CONNECTION TO A CELLULAR DEVICE. SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL RECOGNIZE THE PHONE, OTHER TIMES I HAVE TO DISCONNECT THE USB TO PHONE CONNECTION, TURN THE USB CORD AROUND AND RECONNECT A FEW TIMES FOR THE RADIO TO RECOGNIZE THE PHONE. AFTER THIS ISSUES, ONE SPEAKER WENT OUT. LATER ON, A SECOND SPEAKER WENT OUT. I REPLACED BOTH SPEAKERS TO FIND OUT THAT IT IS POSSIBLE THE IN-CAR AMPLIFIER BLEW. AFTER THIS, THE RADIO UNIT WOULD AT TIMES GO COMPLETELY BLACK, CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON. AFTER THIS, THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR NO LONGER LOCKS ELECTRONICALLY, I HAVE TO LOCK AND UNLOCK DRIVER SIDE DOOR MANUALLY BUT THE PASSENGER SIDE DOES INDEED WORK. AFTER THESE ISSUES, I NOTICED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON FOR A MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR. I CLEANED THE SENSOR, AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT AWAY. ABOUT 300 MILES LATER, IT CAME BACK ON AND THE CAR HESITATES/BUCKS CONSISTENTLY WITH A LOSS OF POWER ONCE THE SPEED HITS ABOUT 60 MPH. I-75 HILLS, I CAN NO LONGER ACCELERATE TO MAINTAIN SPEEDS. I REPLACED THE MAF SENSOR, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON. I HAD IT CLEARED FROM O'REILLY'S SINCE THE SAME CODE WAS APPEARING ON THE CAR. AFTER 10 MILES SITTING IN IDLE, THE TRACTION CONTROL SENSOR APPEARED. 10 MILES AFTERWARDS THIS ON I-75, THE CAR WILL NOT CLIMB HILLS, DROPS POWER, BUCKS AND JERKS THE CAR FORWARD AND BACK. I STOPPED AT A PART STORE, TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON. TRACTION CONTROL SENSOR GOES AWAY, ENGINE LIGHT COMES BACK ON WITH SAME CODE READING. I CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS STILL ON. I'VE READ A LOT OF ARTICLES ABOUT THIS, NO ONE HAS FIGURED OUT HOW TO FIX THIS.

WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY THE CAR WILL DROP FROM 70 TO BELOW 40 MPH, CANNOT MAINTAIN A SAFE SPEED ON HIGHWAY. PROBLEM IS EXASPERATED WHEN DRIVING UP A HILL. THE ISSUE IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THERE IS ALSO A WHIRRING NOISE THE ENGINE MAKES WHEN THIS HAPPENS. AFTER CHECKING ONLINE FORUMS IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM/COMPLAINT AMONG OTHER NISSAN ALTIMA 2012 MODELS.

THROUGHOUT ITS LIFE FROM WHEN I RECEIVED CAR AT AROUND 45,000 MILES, EVERY COUPLE THOUSAND 5K-10K CARE ENGINE ENGINE COULD NOT ACCELERATE QUICKER CAR WOULD BEGIN MAKING ENGINE WHINING NOISE. IT WAS NEVER DISGNOSED AS A CVT PROBLEM WHEN I WOULD TAKE CAR TO NISSAN IN WARRANTY REPAIR . DURING DEALERSHIP REPAIR ENOUNTER MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR WAS REPLACED. "MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR" THAT HAS BEEN REPLACED MULTIPLES TIMES THROUGHOUT ITS LIFE AS WELL. CAR NOW HAS A CVT PROBLEM AND STRUGGLES DURING HOT WEATHER AND WORST IF PEOPLE ARE IN CAR NOW.
