WHEN I DRIVE MY CAR IN THE CITY, SOMETIMES IT WILL GOES "NUMB", IN OTHER WORDS DOESN'T RESPONSE TO MY COMMANDS WHEN SPEED IS 30MPH+RPM IS 2K OR SPEED IS 20MPH+RPM IS 1.5K.(ONLY AT THESE TWO UNIQUE COMBINATION, E.G. IS THE SPEED IS 30MPH+RPH IS 1.5K, THE ISSUE WILL NOT OCCUR). EITHER APPLYING GAS OR BRAKE DOESN'T WORK AS I WHEN MY CAR IS FUNCTIONING NORMALLY. THE DURATION OF THIS "NUMB" ISSUE IS USUALLY ABT 10-15 MIN, AND OFTEN HAPPENS WHEN I USE MY CAR FROM COLD START.(BUT THAT USUALLY HAPPENS AFTER A WARM-UP OF 5MIN AND BEING ON THE ROAD FOR ABT 10-15MIN). WHEN THE ISSUE HAPPENS, I FEEL LIKE SOMETHING IS CONTROLLING MY CAR INSTEAD OF ME AND MY CAR DOESNT LISTEN TO ME, E.G. MY CAR WAS GOING DOWNHILL SMOOTHLY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN IT GOES NUMB, I WAS TRYING TO MAKE THE SPEED LOWER THAN 30 MPH BUT WASN'T ABLE TO, LUCKILY IT FINALLY SLOW DOWN WHEN I APPLIED A HARD BRAKE THAT MAKE THE VEHICLE ALMOST STOPPED. THE OPERATION AND SAFETY ISSUE ANNOYS ME. SOMETIMES IT GAVE ME SUDDEN PAUSE ON THE ROAD(20-30 MPH SPEED). I HAVE TOOK MY CAR TO DEALERSHIP 4 TIMES SINCE JUNE 2013, MY TRANSMISSION SYSTEM GOT REPROGRAMMED 2 TIMES. 12/30/2013, I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGH WAY AND THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON, AFTER THAT MY CAR STARTED OPERATING WEIRD (FEELS LIKE LACK OF POWER). TOOK MY CAR TO DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY AND GOT TRANSMISSION REPROGRAMMED, PLUS SOME PARTS CHANGED (I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY EXACTLY CHANGED). ALMOST EVERYDAY, I EXPERIENCE MY CAR GOES "NUMB" OUT OF NOWHERE, AND HAD TO LIVE WITH IT BEING UNABLE TO CONTROL MY CAR WHEN IT HAPPENS BECAUSE NISSAN BLAMES THE "COLD" WEATHER IN CALIFORNIA AND MY SENSITIVITY IN DRIVING. *TR
MY CAR HAVE SOME ISSUE I TOOK THE CAR COMPLAINING ABOUT THE PAX LIGHT AIRBAG NHTSA NUM 14V138000 BUT AS OF NOW THE PROBLEM EXIST AND ANOTHER NHTSA 13V069000 OCCUPANT DETECTION SYSTEM MAY DISABLE PAS AIRBAG AND THIS PROBLEM STILL EXIST ON MY CAR AND ANOTHER PROBLEM THAT I HAVE MY CAR HAS 3 NEW TRANSMISSIONS AND ONLY HAS 24763 MILES. *TR
THE PASSENGER AIRBAG STATUS INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED (ABOVE RADIO CONSOLE) , INDICATING PASSENGER AIRBAG WAS OFF, AT 10:36PM WITH A FULL SIZE ADULT FEMALE PASSENGER SITTING AND BUCKLED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. PRIOR TO THAT INCIDENT, EARLIER IN THE EVENING, THE PASSENGER AIRBAG STATUS INDICATOR LIGHT WAS NOT ILLUMINATED, INDICATING THE AIRBAG WAS ACTIVE, AT 9:14PM WITH THE PASSENGER SEAT EMPTY AND NO OTHER LOAD PLACED IN CONTACT WITH THE SEAT. TWO MINUTES LATER AT 9:16PM THE PASSENGER AIRBAG STATUS INDICATOR CHANGED STATE AND ILLUMINATED AFTER TURNING LEFT ONTO ANOTHER STREET. *TR
MY 2013 NISSAN ALTIMA WANDERS LT AND RT ON THE INTERSTATE AT SPEEDS FROM 65-75 MPH. IT IS EVEN MORE NOTICEABLE WITH WINDS 10+ MPH. YOU HAVE TO GRIP THE STEERING WHEEL TIGHT WITH BOTH HANDS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO WANDER INTO OTHER LANES OR OFF THE ROAD. THIS PROBLEM IS EVEN MULTIPLIED WHEN IT IS RAINING, IF FEELS LIKE THE CAR IS HYDRO-PLANING. IT IS SCARY AND DANGEROUS. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ON GOOGLE I FOUND MULTIPLE SITES WHERE 2013 NISSAN ALTIMA OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING. I ONLY HAVE 9,000 MILES ON THIS CAR AND FEEL LIKE IT IS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE ON THE INTERSTATE. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY ARE LOOKING INTO IT, WE ALL KNOW THEY ARE NOT GOING TO ADMIT TO ANYTHING. PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY. THIS BEGAN IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASING A 2013 NISSAN ALTIMA. 35 MILES. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY RESET THE SENSOR AND SAID THERE WAS NOTHING MORE THAT COULD BE DONE. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES AND THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE WITH ANYONE SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I'M NOT HAVING MUCH LUCK WITH NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS. THEY SAY THEY WILL CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP AND WILL FILE MY CASE AND CONTACT ME IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. HELP! *TR
ALTIMA 2.5L ENG. PROBLEM: ENGINE VIBRATIONS/CVT SHUTTERING SINCE APPROX. 3600 MILES, BUT HAS CONTINUALLY GOTTEN WORSE WITH MORE MILES (7000 MI 12/31/13). VIBRATIONS FELT AT 1500-2000 RPMS (ENOUGH TO SHAKE AND VIBRATE THE DASH COMPONENTS), THEN VIBRATION GOES AWAY. SLIGHT ACCELERATION UNDER LOAD AT 1500-2000 RPMS AND AT ANY SPEED (20-30, 40-55, 72 MPH) WILL RESULT IN DRONING/VIBRATIONS (EVERYTIME). HAD NISSAN SERVICE MGR. RIDE WITH ME, THEN HE DROVE THE VEHICLE AND CONFIRMED THE VIBRATIONS. HE SAID TO RETURN THE VEHICLE IN JAN 2014 TO FURTHER DOCUMENT THIS PROBLEM THAT NISSAN DOES NOT ADMIT EXISTS. HOWEVER, THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED TO NISSAN MANY TIMES OVER THIS PAST YEAR (2013). I NOW BELIEVE THIS VIBRATION IS COMING FROM THE ENGINE AND NOT FROM THE CVT SINCE I CAN FEEL VIBRATIONS 1500-2000 RPM EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED (IN PARK OR IN NEUTRAL). UPDATE: 1/08/14 NISSAN DEALER REPLACED ENGINE ALTERNATOR, PROBLEM STILL EXISTS, NO CHANGE IN VIBRATIONS. 1/10/14 NISSAN REPLACED TENSIONER AND ENGINE SERPENTINE BELT, PROBLEM STILL EXISTS, NO CHANGE IN VIBRATIONS. 1/13/14 FILED COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE SEAT BELT WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE ALTHOUGH THE SEAL BELT WAS LATCHED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE UNKNOWN REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,600.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE STARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WERE VERY LOW, HE WAS UNABLE TO SEE THE ROAD AT NIGHT AND HAD TO ACTIVATE THE HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS. THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000.UPDATED 05/28/14 MA THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AT 45MPH AND THEN AGAIN AT 30MPH. THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS PRIOR TO A PASSENGER SITTING IN THE SEAT. THE HEADLIGHTS IMPROVED SINCE REPLACING THE BULBS WITH 110 W, AFTERMARKET BULBS. THE SEAT BELT LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE RESTARTED. UPDATED 05/30/2014 *JS
PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON WHILE PASSENGER IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. PROBLEM STARTED A COUPLE OF WEEKS AFTER I LEASED BRAND NEW CAR. THE PROBLEM IS ONGOING FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. THE FOX NISSAN DEALERSHIP CANNOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM SO NISSAN WILL NOT OFFER ANY RESOLUTION. I'VE BEEN TRYING FOR A YEAR NOW AND THE PROBLEM PERSISTS, NISSAN OR DEALERSHIP CANNOT SAY IF THE AIRBAG WILL WORK IN THE CASE OF A CRASH. I'M PAYING MONTHLY LEASE PAYMENTS ON A CAR THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE SAFE. WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO CUSTOMER SERVICE? TOOK THE CAR IN LAST FRIDAY FOR THE AIRBAG RECALL, PROBLEM IS STILL THERE AFTER DEALERSHIP UPDATED THE SOFTWARE PROBLEM. BOTH FOX NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND NISSAN REGIONAL FIELD REP SAID THERE IS NOTHING MORE THEY CAN DO SINCE THEY CAN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. APPARENTLY THE PHOTOS OF THE PROBLEM THEY HAD ME TAKE WE'RE TO MAKE ME FEEL LIKE THEY ACTUALLY CARED. I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M CONTINUING TO MAKE PAYMENTS ON THIS UNSAFE VEHICLE. *TR
THE VEHICLE PASSENGER AIR BAG "OFF" WARNING LITE COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY WHEN AN ADULT, WEIGHING APPROXIMATELY 160#, IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. *TR
TURNING RIGHT FROM A STOP AND AS I WAS ACCELERATING, HAD VIOLENT THUNK AND VIBRATION IN CAR WITH LOSS IF ACCELERATION FOR 1-2 SECONDS. BEFORE AND AFTER THAT, CONSISTENTLY EXPERIENCE VIBRATION/SHUDDER AND DECREASED ACCELERATION AT ABOUT 20MPH WHEN I LET OFF THE GAS OR DON'T CONTINUE WITH SAME LEVEL OF ACCELERATION. *TR
2013 NISSAN ALTIMA - CONTACTED DEALER SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE CONCERNING PASSENGER AIRBAG DISABLE LIGHT COMING ON WHEN MY WIFE (105 LBS) IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. DEALER COULD NOT REPRODUCE ERROR AND NO ERROR CODES WERE FOUND. RE-CALL WAS PERFORMED IN MAY 2014, AND DID NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. AFTER MANY VISITS TO THE DEALER COMPLAINING ABOUT THE UNRESOLVED PASSENGER AIRBAG ISSUE WE WERE TOLD THE SEAT BELT IS THE PRIMARY PROTECTION AND THE AIRBAG IS ONLY SUPPLEMENTARY. FEB 2014 DEALER WAS FINALLY ABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM BY PLACING TWO 50 LB SALT BAGS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. DEALER CONTACTED NISSAN TECHNICAL SUPPORT FOR ASSISTANCE, BUT THEY WERE TOLD IT WAS WITHIN ALLOWABLE LIMITS, THEREFORE ITS OKAY AND NOTHING WILL/CAN BE DONE. AFTER PURCHASING WHAT WE THOUGHT TO BE A QUALITY VEHICLE @ $30,000+ ONLY TO FIND OUT WE HAVE NO AIRBAG PROTECTION WAS VERY DISAPPOINTING TO SAY THE LEAST, UNFORTUNATELY THIS WILL NOT BE CORRECTED UNTIL THERE IS A FATALITY ASSOCIATED WITH THIS ISSUE. CURRENT MILEAGE IS 23,731. *TR
MY "PASSENGER AIRBAG OFF" LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY AS MANY OTHER USERS HAVE REPORTED. THIS HAPPENS WITH ADULTS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT BETWEEN 115-130LBS. I'VE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER TWICE. THE FIRST TIME THEY DID A FACTORY RESET. THE PROBLEM DIDN'T GO AWAY. THE SECOND TIME, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS WORKING FINE EVEN THOUGH THE TECHNICIAN AGREED THE PROBLEM WOULD CONCERN HER TOO IF IT WAS HER CAR. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL, THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE CAR IS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL - VERY POOR HANDLING. A LOT OF SWAY IN THE STEERING AND SUSPENSION. CAR CONSTANTLY DRIFTS SIDE TO SIDE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS REQUIRING CONTINUOUS STEERING CORRECTION. NOT A MECHANICAL OR ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION, JUST POOR HANDLING. *TR
THE BEST I CAN DO TO EXPLAIN THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING WITH MY 2013 ALTIMA IS TO COMPARE IT TO THE JERKING YOU WILL EXPERIENCE IN A STICK SHIFT VEHICLE IF YOU DO NOT CLUTCH AND SHIFT PROPERLY ALMOST CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STOP. ONCE I WAS ENTERING ONTO THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR ACTED AS IF THE PARKING BRAKE WAS APPLIED WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER FROM WHICH I PURCHASED IT (ST.CLAIR AUTO MALL), THE MECHANIC DROVE IT AND ALMOST IMMEDIATELY HE EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM. WE DROVE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP (SERVICE DEPT.). HE LOOKED UP SOME INFORMATION IN THE COMPUTER, SAID DIAGNOSTICS TESTS WERE RAN BUT THE TEST(S) TURNED UP NOTHING. AND ALSO THERE WERE NO LIGHTS ON THE DASH INDICATING A PROBLEM. SO, FOR THAT REASON NOTHING COULD BE DONE. *TR
AFTER RETURNING HOME FROM THE STORE, I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS AN OBJECT DONE BY MY GAS PEDAL. I WENT TO PICK IT UP AND IT LOOKS LIKE ITS SUPPOSED TO BE HOLDING SOMETHING UP THERE. I LOOKED UP AND COULD NOT FIND WHERE IT WENT, BUT THEN NOTICED A BOLT THAT HOLDS THE BRACKET FOR THE HOOD, AND GAS DOOR CABLES WAS LOOSE. I MEAN IT WAS HALF WAY OUT AND THE OTHER WAS TIGHT. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR FINDING ALL OF THESE DIFFERENT PROBLEMS. ALMOST LIKE THEY DID NOT QUALITY CHECK IT! *TR
THE ORANGE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT (UNDERNEATH HAZARD LIGHTS BUTTON) COMES ON WHEN A FULL-GROWN ADULT (150 LBS) IS SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS MEANS THAT THE AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY IF I CRASH WITH THEM IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, WHICH MAKES ME VERY NERVOUS ABOUT SAFETY. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY SINGLE TIME, BUT ABOUT 75% OF THE TIME A FULL-GROWN ADULT IS SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I'VE TAKEN IT TO NISSAN DEALERS, AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIX IT. *TR
BOUGHT THIS AUTO NEW AND FROM BEGINNING HAD PROBLEMS WITH ROUGH OR STUTTERED SHIFTING WHEN CLIMBING HILL (WORST), DESCENDING HILL, DRIVING ON FLAT AREAS, DEPRESSING OR RELEASING GAS PEDAL. I LET THE MAINTENANCE DEPT KNOW WHEN GETTING CAR SERVICED AT THREE MONTHS AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS NORMAL! SURE. I BROUGHT THIS UP AGAIN TWO MORE TIMES AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. AFTER THE RECALL CAME OUT ON THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MOD , THE FIX HELPED SOMEWHAT. NOW A FEW WEEKS LATER, IT IS WORSE THAN BEFORE, ESPECIALLY IN THE HILLS. THIS FIXED DIDN'T HELP AND MORE INVESTIGATION NEEDS TO TAKE PLACE IN ORDER TO FIND THE PROBLEM AND FIX IT CORRECTLY. THIS HAD BEING GOING ON ALMOST 4 YEARS FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE TO YESTERDAY LAST DAY DRIVEN. SOONER OR LATER THE TRANSMISSION WILL QUIT WORKING FROM THIS TROUBLE.
WARNING LIGHT SHOWS FAULTY AIRBAG ON DRIVER'S SIDE, VERIFIED BY DEALER. PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG REPAIRED UNDER RECALL. DRIVER'S SIDE CODE APPEARED RIGHT AFTER THE FIRST REPAIR WAS MADE BUT WAS ADVISED THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER FIRST RECALL. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE 2 YEARS AGO, AND I'M NOT PAYING UPWARDS OF $5,000 FOR YOUR ELECTRICAL FAILURE. *TR
PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT INDICATED THAT IT WAS OFF. HAD NISSAN CHECK IT SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO ISSUE. AIRBAG LIGHT MALFUNCTION SEVERAL TIMES WITH ADULT PASSENGER SITTING. *TR
TRANSMISSION IS LOCKING UP AT ANY SPEED WHILE COASTING OR DECELERATING,FEELS LIKE MOTOR AND TRANSMISSION IS GOING TO COME RIGHT OUT OF IT. ON WAY BACK TO DEALERSHIP, IT HAPPENED AT 55MPH GOING AROUND A BEND,AND FRONT TIRES LOCKED UP AND CHIRPED,THIS WAS THE WORSE ONE, IF THIS HAPPENED ON SNOW COVERED ROADS,THERE'S NO DOUBT THAT I WOULD HAVE WENT RIGHT INTO THE DITCH..WE'VE ONLY HAD THE CAR 3WEEKS AND PUT LESS THAN 1500 MILES ON IT.THE CAR STARTED DOING THIS 3 DAYS AGO,TODAY TOOK IT TO DEALERSHIP,TOOK SERVICEMAN ON TEST DRIVE AND WITHIN A 1/4 MILE, HE HAD SEEN ENOUGH,WHAT IS WRONG WITH THESE CVT TRANSMISSIONS,THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN A TRANSMISSION LOCKS UP AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS!!! *TR
PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF WARNING LIGHT COMES ON INTERMITTENTLY, EVEN WITH A PERSON OVER 100 LBS. IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW. I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE DEALER AND THEY "RECALIBRATED" THE SENSOR, BUT THIS DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. THE RECENT PASSENGER AIR BAG RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE MY VIN, SO IT APPEARS THAT NISSAN HAS NO IDEA HOW TO FIX THIS. BY READING THESE COMPLAINTS ON SAFERCAR.GOV, IT APPEARS THAT THIS IS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE. HOW LONG WILL NISSAN'S CUSTOMERS BE FORCED TO DRIVE AROUND WITH COMPROMISED SAFETY SYSTEMS? *TR
HEADREST ON 2013 ALTIMA HURTS THE BACK OF MY HEAD WHEN I DRIVE THE CAR. IF IT HURTS IN NORMAL DRIVING I CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT THE HEAD INJURY IS GOING TO BE LIKE IF I GET HIT WHILE DRIVING THIS CAR. I FIRST HAD THE AIR BAG PASSENGER SENSOR WARNING COME ON AND STAY ON FOR AROUND FIFTEEN MINUTES AND THEN IT WENT OFF. MY WIFE WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT IN ALL THESE INCIDENTS. THE AIRBAG LIGHT ON THE DASH THAT SIGNIFIES IF THE AIRBAG IS OFF OR ON IS INCONSISTENT. THE LIGHT IS SUPPOSED TO LIGHT FOR A BRIEF 7 SECOND BOOT UP PERIOD THEN EXTINGUISH, REGARDLESS IF THERE IS A PASSENGER OR NOT...WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A UNDER WEIGHT PASSENGER WITH THE SEAT BELT FASTENED. THE MOST COMMON IRREGULARITY OBSERVED IS FOR THE LIGHT TO EXTINGUISH AS EXPECTED HOWEVER WITH A PASSENGER THAT WEIGHS WELL OVER 100 LBS, THE LIGHT WILL COME ON RANDOMLY WHILE THE VEHICLE IS AT HIGH SPEED AND NOT EXTINGUISH UNTIL THE VEHICLE IS SHUT DOWN. THE FIRST DOZEN TIMES OR SO, I WOULD ASK THE PASSENGER TO MOVE THEIR WEIGHT OR WIGGLE TO ATTEMPT TO HAVE THE LIGHT GO OUT AND RE-ENGAGE THE AIRBAG BUT THIS WAS TO NO AVAIL. ONCE THE LIGHT TRIPS WHILE THE CAR IS UNDERWAY, IT WILL NOT GO OUT. ON OCCASION THE BEHAVIOR IS THAT THE LIGHT STAYS ON AFTER THE BOOT PERIOD AND EVEN WHEN A PASSENGER SITS AND BUCKLES UP, THE LIGHT STAYS LIT. AGAIN, EVERY INDICATION IS THAT THERE IS NO AIRBAG DURING THIS PERIOD. I TOOK THE CAR TO A NISSAN DEALER ON AUGUST 27TH AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY "CODES" AND ALTHOUGH THEY COULD NOT GUARANTEE ME THE AIRBAG SYSTEM WAS ENGAGING PROPERLY, THEY COULD NOT DO ANY MORE THEN RESET THE SYSTEM UNTIL NISSAN CORP WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED A TECH TO LOOK INTO THE VEHICLE VIN RECORD AND INVESTIGATE. I CONTACTED NISSAN AND RECEIVED A CASE NUMBER (119977748)ON 8/28 VIA PHONE. NISSAN CONTACTED ME ON 8/29 TO ADVISE THAT THE WOULD INVESTIGATE AND CONTACT ME IN EARLY SEPTEMBER AS TO THEIR FINDINGS. I AM ALSO ATTEMPTING TO DETERMINE IF THERE HAS BEEN ANY FOLLOW UP LETTER TO THE NISSAN CORP LETTER 13V-069 DATED 2/28 SENT TO THE NHTSA, RECALL MANAGEMENT DIVISION INDICATING THAT NISSAN INTENDED TO HAVE A RECALL FOR A SIMILAR PROBLEM. *TT

THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. AROUND 20000 MILES THE HARD SHIFTING ALSO BEGAN TO OCCUR WHILE THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING. THE OWNER REQUESTED TO BRING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHILE THE INCIDENT WAS OCCURRING, BUT THE DEALERSHIP DECLINED AS THEY WERE BUSY AND TO CALL BACK AFTER THE HOLIDAY. WHEN THE OWNER CALLED BACK AFTER THE HOLIDAY, THE SERVICE PERSON ASKED IF THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS SHIFTING HARD. THE OWNER STATED YES, AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS FEELING IS NORMAL IN A CVT TRANSMISSION AND THERE WAS NO NEED TO BRING THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP. THE CAR SHIFTS SO HARD, SOMETIMES THE TIRES SQUEAL. THIS HAPPENS OFTEN IN TRAFFIC AND WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, ESPECIALLY IN ICY OR WET CONDITIONS. TO DATE, THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. *JB

NISSAN ENGINEERS AND TECHNICIANS STATED THAT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM ON OUR ALTIMA WAS "OPERATING AS IT HAD BEEN DESIGNED TO OPERATE". THIS IS AFTER REPLACING THE COMPUTER AND FRONT SEAT SENSORS WHICH WERE DETERMINED TO BE DEFECTIVE. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, WHEN A 120-130 LB FEMALE IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE DETECTION SYSTEM AND WARNING LIGHT SUGGEST THE AIR BAG HAS BEEN SHUT OFF. THERE IS A RECALL FOR NISSAN ALTIMAS OF MY MODEL YEAR, BUT NOT MY VEHICLE. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE BUT I DON'T KNOW WHY MY VEHICLE IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. WHEN I TEST-DROVE THE VEHICLE IN JANUARY, THE SALESMAN (~130 LB) WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND JOKED THAT HE OFTEN TRIGGERED THE AIRBAG SHUT-OFF BECAUSE HE DIDN'T WEIGH ENOUGH. BUT I ASSUME THE WEIGHT MAXIMUM FOR SHUT-OFF HAS TO BE AROUND 70 POUNDS. *TR

I TOOK MY CONCERN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED MANY OF THE PARTS UNDER THE SEAT IN AN ATTEMPT TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. BY OCTOBER OF 2013, NISSAN SENT A SPECIAL TECHNICIAN TO FIVE TOWNS NISSAN IN INWOOD,NY TO ADDRESS MY PROBLEM. HE REPLACED THE RAILING UNDER THE SEAT BUT TOLD ME THE SYSTEM WAS WORKING CORRECTLY AND THEY WERE JUST MAKING ME HAPPY. HOWEVER, IN MAY OF 2014, I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR MY VERY PROBLEM. IT TURNS OUT MANY OTHERS MUST HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. THE RECALL WAS A SOFTWARE RE-PROGRAM OF THE OCCUPANCY SENSOR. BUT, THIS RECALL DID NOT FIX THE ISSUE. I HAVE SPOKEN TO NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS MANY TIMES AND THEY TREAT THIS LIKE AN INDIVIDUAL PROBLEM. THEY ACTUALLY ASK ME WHAT I WOULD LIKE THEM TO DO. WE FIRST BEGAN NOTICING WHAT FELT LIKE A HARD DOWNSHIFT WHEN COASTING AT SPEEDS UNDER 50 MPH. THE PROBLEM WAS FIRST DIAGNOSED AS A ANTILOCK BRAKE PROGRAMMING ERROR, BUT REPAIRS DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND THE SEVERITY INCREASED. WHEN TRAVELING AT A SPEED OF 30 - 45 MPH AND WE'D TAKE OUR FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR, IT ALMOST FELT LIKE WE WERE BEING REAR-ENDED. IT BECAME CLEAR THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE NEW CONTINUOUS ACCELERATION TRANSMISSION (I.E., NO SHIFT). ONCE THE MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN FELT THE PROBLEM WHEN IT HAPPENED, A NEW TRANSMISSION WAS ORDERED AND INSTALLED (APPROX. AT 10,000 MILES). AFTER THE NEW TRANSMISSION WAS INSTALLED, WE HAD NO PROBLEMS UNTIL AROUND 15,000 MILES, WHEN THE PROBLEM RESURFACED. WE TOOK IT BACK IN FOR REPAIRS, AS THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE WITH SUCH A HARD JERKING PROBLEM. THEY TRIED REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION CONTROLLER, BUT THAT ALSO DID NOT WORK. WHEN THEY TOLD US THAT THEY WERE GOING TO NEED TO INSTALL ANOTHER NEW TRANSMISSION WE TOLD THEM WE DIDN'T WANT THE CAR ANY LONGER. THE DEALERSHIP WORKED ON OUR BEHALF TO TRY TO GET HELP FROM NISSAN FOR A NEW VEHICLE, BUT WITH VERY LITTLE SUCCESS. FORTUNATELY, OUR DEALERSHIP STILL DID THE RIGHT THING AND WE HAVE A NEW VEHICLE. *TR

MY PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG LIGHT DETECTOR IS CONSTANTLY INTERMITTENTLY LIGHTING UP WHEN MY DAUGHTER, WHO IS 18 SITS IN THE SEAT..SHE WEIGHS ABOUT 115 LBS. TO GET THE LIGHT TO TURN OFF, AND THEREFORE HOPE THE AIRBAG WORKS, IF GOD FORBID WE GET INTO AN ACCIDENT, I HAVE TO TURN OFF THE CAR, HAVE HER GET OUT, THEN GET BACK IN AND THEN START THE CAR AGAIN..THIS USUALLY RESULTS IN THE LIGHT GOING OUT AND THEN WE CAN PROCEED "SAFELY" ON OUR WAY, WITH THE AIRBAG HOPEFULLY OPERATIONAL. THAT'S PRETTY BAD WHEN WE ALREADY HAVE A RITUAL TO FIGURE THIS ISSUE OUT, DON'T YOU THINK?? SHE LOVES IT BECAUSE IT MAKES HER FEEL THINNER, BUT SERIOUSLY, THIS IS RIDICULOUS! SOMETHING IS OBVIOUSLY WRONG WITH EITHER THE AIRBAG OR SENSOR! I HAVE A BAD RATTLE COMING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY CAR ALONG WITH A WHINE NOISE COMING FROM THE SAME AREA. ALSO HAVE A VERY BAD VIBRATION/RATTLE IN THE CAR THAT SEEMS TO BE FROM THE TRANSMISSION AT ACCELERATION FROM A START AND ACCELERATION WHILE SWITCHING LANES ON A CITY STREET. YOU CAN COAST AND PRESS THE GAS AGAIN AND THEN THE WHOLE CAR RATTLES. IT HAS BEEN IN TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY CAN FEEL IT BUT DON'T KNOW WHERE OR WHAT IS CAUSING IT. THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE. PURCHASED A BRAND NEW 2013 NISSAN ALTIMA IN APRIL. THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT TURNS ON WHEN PASSENGERS SIT IN THE SEAT. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE THE FIRST FEW DAYS OF THE PURCHASE MEANING THE LIGHT SIGNALS AND NOTIFIES THE DRIVER THAT THE AIR BAG IS NOT ACTIVE OR ENGAGED. THIS DENOTES THAT AN AIRBAG WILL NOT DEPLOY WITH A PASSENGER IN THE SEAT IF AN ACCIDENT WERE TO OCCUR. EACH TIME THIS LIGHT HAS COME ON I HAVE SET UP AN APPTMENT WITH MYDEALER TO HAVE THE ISSUE FIXED. THE DIAGNOSTICS CHECK DOES NOT SHOW AN ERROR AND IS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE SENSORS HAVE BEEN RESET EACH TIME, BUT DOES NOT FIX THE ISSUE. MULTIPLE APPOINTMENTS WERE MADE TO CORRECT THE ISSUE, BUT NONE HAVE RECTIFIED THE SITUATION. I HAVE ASKED FOR THE CAR TO BE REPLACED NUMEROUS TIMES, OR CORRECT THE ISSUE. NONE OF WHICH HAS BEEN FULFILLED. THE REQUEST FOR A REPLACEMENT HAS BEEN SIDE TRACKED BY BRINGING THE CAR IN FOR ANOTHER LOOK TO FIND THE PROBLEM. AT THIS POINT MY WINDOW OF TIME FOR A REPLACEMENT HAS PASSED DUE TO TRYING TO FIND A DIAGNOSTICS ERROR CODE. A CLAIM WAS FILED WITH NISSAN CORPORATE CONSUMER AFFAIRS, BUT NO UPDATE OR PROGRESS HAS BEEN MADE IN OVER TWO WEEKS. AS OF TODAY THE 11TH DAY SINCE MY LAST REPORTED ISSUE, THE CLAIM ASSOCIATE IS JUST NOW STARTING TO LOOK INTO THIS. THE CLAIM WAS CLOSED WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE STATING I COULD NOT BE REACHED, BUT NO PHONE CALL OR MESSAGE WAS MISSED OR LEFT FROM NISSAN CORPORATE. I HAVE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TOMES EACH DAY LOOKING FOR AN UPDATE OR RESOLUTION AND CERTAINLY WOULD HAVE PROMPTLY CALLED CONSUMER AFFAIRS BACK DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THIS SAFETY ISSUE. SUCH VIBRATION ALSO COMPROMISES THE MILEAGES THAT NISSAN HAS DECLARED THEREFORE MORE GREEN HOUSE GAS EMISSION FOR SAME MILES. MANY 2013 ALTIMA OWNERS COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SAME THING IN FORUMS SUCH AS EDMUNDS, CARS.COM AND ETC. IT IS A MECHANICAL DESIGN FLAW THE COULD SEVERELY JEOPARDIZE THE CAR AND HURT THE PEOPLE IN IT THOUGH NISSAN NEVER ADMIT IT OR FIX IT IN THE PAST ONE YEAR.
