Recently after lending my 2014 Nissan Altima to my daughter to drive out of state she made a turn in a parking lot and the rear lower control arm broke in half. The car was undrivable and had to be towed to a local repair shop. After doing some checking online I found out that Nissan is well aware of the issue and has issued a service bulletin P9324. However, I am very upset as Nissan never mailed out any notices to owners to bring the cars into a nissan dealership and have them inspected, owners were never made aware of the potential problem. Not only that, I live in a state which uses road salt, which their service bulletin says compounds the issue and I was still never notified. Nissan is well aware of the cracking lower control arm issue and had a redesign done in I believe 2018 to eliminate the issue. Additionally, I had the car in at a Nissan dealership 2 weeks before the failure occurred for a different recall issue and I feel there is no excuse for this to at least not have been checked when the car was in at a dealership for service, especially in a road salt use state. Looking back the car was making a clicking noise from the right rear where the control arm broke for the last year and a half only rarely when going over one particular speed bump where I live. Had I been notified by Nissan about the potential issue I immediately would have bought it into a dealer for inspection. Additionally Nissan did extend the warranty on this part but the failure was six months outside of their extended warranty and they will not cover repair expenses either. I strongly feel this breakage could have caused a loss of life if it happened at highway speeds as my daughter informed me the car was completely undrivable when it broke in the parking lot and had to be towed. I am in possession of the failed lower control arm. Once again shame on Nissan for failing to notify owners of this potential hazardous problem.
-The component that malfunctioned is the airbag light for my vehicle, and yes it is available for inspection upon request. -My safety and others are at risk because my airbag may not deploy if I get into an accident. -The manufacturer (at a local Nissan dealership) diagnosed the problem after an inspection, which confirmed it was an airbag light for the driver's seat airbag. There is currently a warning lamp that's turned on. After the dealership's inspection, they turned off the warning lamp, but it turned back on within a month. There were no other symptoms that could have prompted and provoked this warning lamp to be triggered.
Headlights don't work properly. I can barely see beyond 2 cars lengths ahead of me unless using full beam. I realize that there was a voluntary recall issued in 2020, however, I am not sure that I was notified. The dealership examined car and noted the reflectors are delaminating, the pattern of which matches that of the recall. Since this is a design flaw I consider Nissan responsible and feel they should replace the headlights at no cost to me. I don't understand why the recall was voluntary and why it had a time limit. Functioning headlights are a necessity.
We have a 2014 Nissan Altima. Last few months it has not been driving right. We have had mechanics look at it with no answer. When the problems got worse, suggestions were made that a new transmission was needed. No one was wanting to work on it at that point. The car finally broke down while at a stoplight and we had to have it towed home. When we went to the bank, we were told that in that timeframe of when 2014 Altima’s were manufactured, a new type of transmission was installed. Then was told after a few years the transmission went bad. I would like to know if there is any truth to this, and if our Altima was a statistic of that.
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while reversing out of the driveway, the tire went inward, the control arm fractured, and the vehicle became undrivable. The contact looked underneath the vehicle and became aware that the driver's side rear lower control arm was rusted and had split into two pieces. There were no warning lights illuminated. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and informed the contact there was no warranty coverage on the vehicle and referred the contact to the local dealer for assistance. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Action Number: EA19002 (Suspension). The failure mileage was approximately 124,538.
My 2014 Nissan transmission failed at 95,000 miles in less than 10 years. I had to get it replaced. It failed at the middle of an intersection. Multiple people have had the same problem with this model Nissan.
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V315000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages) however, the recall repair was not completed. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated while driving 20 MPH, the hood opened by wind flow. The contact stated that the hood latches and the frame under the windshield had been crimped and bent by the hood. The contact stated that the dealer had not diagnosed the vehicle and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 193,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Low beam lights are very low and causes poor visibility at night and in hazardous conditions such as rain, etc. I can hardly see while driving at night because of the poor and low visibility.
The projector housing in my headlights has been determined to be defective and Nissan was sued because of this. However I have dim headlights on my vehicle which will cost me $1200 to replace and Nissan has told me that I am no longer eligible for a one time replacement. This is unfair in that I was never notified by Nissan about defective headlights which have deteriorated to a point where they are so dim it is unsafe to drive at night.
The hood latch recall was done June 2022, but it became malfunction 1 year after recall was done. When driving, the hood flies up and almost hit the windshield. Luckily I didn't drive on the highway. Called the dealer and said it was out of the warranty which is 1 year or 10000 miles after the recall. Why this important parts have so short warranty. The hood can't be open when I closed it after the incident . And the dealer said it will cost $500 to open and fix them.
I was driving on the freeway and my hood popped and shattered my windshield. Why would you guys even allow a car on the roads with a defect as such? This is extremely dangerous! Now I am pretty much w/o transportation. I'm even more upset that I had to find out about the defect the hard way, to see that this is a known issue. What's next? looks like a few people have complained about this issue, even after you guys supposedly fixed it. So, apparently your little fix didn't work. So, offering a new hood and window is NOT an option, I DO NOT FEEL SAFE ESPECIALLY WITH LITTLE PIECES OF GLASS IN MY SKIN AND IN MYT BOYFRIENDS SKIN!! There was also damaged on the inside of the car that HIT ME IN MY HEAD AND FACE!!!!!!!!!!!
The headlights of my vehicle are so dim I cannot drive the vehicle at night. This is a safety issue, why has there never been a recall on this problem?
Left rear control arm broken and unable to move!
On the October 28, 2023, at 2pm, I, was in the process of performing a backing maneuver into my driveway. As I was reversing, I suddenly felt a strong vibration and experienced an inability to move the vehicle further. I promptly exited the vehicle to inspect the situation. Upon examination, I observed that the issue was attributed to a complete failure of the Passenger Side (PS-R) lower control arm. This failure was caused by extensive rust, which had resulted in the control arm being completely broken. The severity of this structural failure rendered the vehicle inoperable and unsafe to drive.
Metal shavings detected in transmission oil (under code P17F1) - car only has 90,000 miles. Dealership quoted $5,760 to fix. This is a common problem with the make/model and should have been recalled. Current extended warranty only covers 5 years, previous models' (Nissan altima 2007-2010) extended warranty for this same issue covered 10 years.
Broken drivers side rear control arm due to corrosion.
It smells like gas when I start the car. It's also wasting alot of gas. I have to put gas every couple of days. I spend more money putting gas. The steering and suspension and the tires keep giving me problems to where the brakes locked up on their own and now it drives really bad especially on the freeway. The steering wheel moves alot when I'm on the freeway sometimes feel like I'm loosing control of the car. The gas pedal gets stuck and the gear shift gets stuck in park. I have to use a nail filer the metal ones and push and hold the shift lock for it to move into gear. The car keeps saying Key not Detected even tho it's in the car with me. I just got the car from a small dealership in pomona in April of 2023

My son was involved in an accident this weekend. A car pulled out in front of him and he hit them going between 45 and 55 MPH. None of his airbags deployed in his 2014 nissan altima. He had his seat belt on, but instead of the airbag keeping him from hitting the steering wheel like it should we ended up in the ER with chest pain. Thankfully he is ok along with his passenger, but I feel the airbags should have deployed. I'm not sure who I need to speak to about this. As is can see all of the black car's airbags deployed.
1. Airbag warning light is on. 2. Unable to roll down front passenger window from driver’s side master window control switch.
Vehicle brought to independent mechanic to investigate popping/creaking sounds from driver's side rear (DS-R) wheel area. While test driving to investigate, the mechanic indicated that the DS-R lower control arm experienced complete failure (rusted through/snapped).
Head Lamps (Lights) stop working properly. New ballast and lights where installed after detected the Malfunction and still no lighting. I no longer can see when I'm driving at night. Yes vehicle have been inspected by police and dealer.
I have purchased low pressure AC hose part from the local Nissan Altima dealer as there is a mechanical design issue where the low pressure AC hose is rubbing with the other part and causing a damage to the hose thus leaking refrigerant gas and spilling on the floor. I have replaced this part twice. The first time I replaced this part did not understand the real issue, the second time I have taken a closer look and found out that the low pressure ac hose is rubbing with the other part of the engine which is next to it, I went back to the dealer and informed the situation and requested to cover the warranty. He did not even bothered to look into my issue and ignored me. I had to replace the part twice due to a poor design issue and this is also a safety hazard. I have then contacted Nissan Manufacturer customer service and explained the issue, they also ignored my complaint without a resolution. I request your intervention and resolve this issue.
When driving at night or low light areas headlights are very dim. The road in front of vehicle is very dark I have use high beams to see.
I was driving for approximately one hour on Interstate 95N. In heavy traffic, but still at speed limit. Then exited onto Rt. 40 N. For about 10 minutes. When I turned onto the back road to my destination, my car instantly started swerving all over the road. I had to immediately pull off into the grass to get off the road. I had to be towed. The driver side rear control arm broke completely in half. It is severely rusted. I had to replace both sides, because the other side is rusted also. I was lucky it didn't happen moments earlier while driving at a high speed on the highway. I would most likely have lost control of my vehicle. And in heavy traffic, it's very likely that other cars would have been in danger due to the failure of my car. I saw that there was a recall on the 2013 Nissans, and I believe that 2014 owners also should have been made aware of the rust issues. I have only had my car for about 2 years bought from Carvana. I had a hood latch recall, but I honestly feel my life and others could have been horrifically affected by this, the use of inferior materials or lack of protective coating or whatever the cause. I have never seen a car under ten years old corroded like this.
While driving the Nissan Altima listed about my daughter began to experience severe vibration to the steering. It was so bad she had difficulty keeping the car on the road and was able to pull into a parking lot. After being reviewed by a repair center it was determined that the lower control arm on the drivers side was broken and caused the upper control arm to be damaged. It was further found that the passenger side rear lower control arm had a crack approx. 75% through. The repairs cost me over $2,200.
I just bought a 2014 Nissan Altima as is from a Nissan Dealer. As the car warms up I'm getting carbon monoxide fumes coming into the car. Car was purchased at Nissan dealership as is! I took it to an auto shop and according to the computer it doesn't show any dash light warnings and cannot find the source of the problem. The car cost me $23,000.00! The air bag system light comes on, the code is B0020 - Side A/B module LH, and I am able to reset the system with a code scanner. The light goes out and operates normally for a few days or weeks, then without warning the A/B illuminates again for no apparent reason. I understand this is not a component problem but a wiring issue. I have read that the path the wire harness takes from the connector under the driver's seat to the side air bag device has two tight pinch point bends causing the wiring to intermittently break the connection causing the A/B light to come on and shut off the system. The fix, I understand, is to replace the driver's seat back at a cost of $1,600. Why isn't there a recall on this? From what I see on the web this seems to be a common problem to this vehicle. This is not a wear and tear issue or abuse, the vehicle owner has not done anything to cause the wiring problem. The problem was built into the vehicle when it was manufactured by the routing of the wiring. I understand the problem will continue until the wiring fully breaks inside the wiring insulation covering and it can no longer be reset. Since this is a safety issue causing the A/B system not to operate properly why hasn't there been a push to get the manufacturer to own up to the error and repair the vehicle at no cost or offer a substantial discount. I am not sure how many vehicles have been affected and many owners may have a difficult time justifying this expense to a 9 year old vehicle for an issue they had no control. Can NHTSA offer advice or assistance with pushing for owner cost relief from the manufacturer?
My Altima is 9 years old now and I know things go bad overtime but my headlights are so dim I can’t see 2 feet in front of me at night snd it’s very very dangerous. I know Nissan had s class action and I was signed up and even had an appointment to fix but sadly my husband got shit while driving home from work in Chicago, he survived thankfully but the next several months revolves around him and doctor appointments, surgeries, etc… and I missed my slot. I think it’s very unfair because these we’re getting dimmer and dimmer since 2016-2017 with the past 3 years so fin you can’t see at all. I’m so afraid I’m going to be able to see and hurt someone badly, and that would kill me in itself!! I personally am not financially able to replace these yet bc it’s pubs 1500-3000 to fix if need be. Thank you [XXX] [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
Rear lower control arm broke from mount. Broke just before reaching a secondary rd with a speed limit of 55
Air bag warning light came on, took car to Nissan dealer who checked into this issue. We are told airbag is fine, however, the device that would inflate it is defective and that it would cost me $1300 to replace the defective part. This car has never been in a wreck and I feel that the manufacture should replace a defective part of an item that has never been deployed. Or at the very least meet this original owner somewhere in between.
I have hard control the vehicle when turning is seem the vehicle want to pull ether to right or left when a making a turn Work was done on the vehicle the steering Power Steering Rack and Pinion Was change is the same problem again The lower control harm was change
I was driving on the freeway and my hood popped up and smashed my roof and everything inside the ceiling onto my lap. The lighting and visor broken. Roof and hood damaged. I luckily survived this. I am leading this car. I took it to Nissan when this happened. They said they’d fix it but it’s been months and now no answer.
On our 2014 Nissan Altima, the left rear lower control arm broke apart and the right rear lower control arm was badly cracked; both are integral parts of the suspension. This happened on a 350 mile trip to visit my father, driving at top speeds of 70 mph, 80 miles of which were on a two-lane highway. I was fortunate to be driving only 15 mph and just a few blocks from my destination when the rear end "fish-tailed" with no ice or rain on the road (it didn't totally break through until I was in my dad's driveway and backed up to put the car into his garage on a flat surface in order to jack it up to see what the problem was). I had heard no unusual noises, nor did any warning lights appear. The car was towed using a dolly system, since it was no longer drivable, to an auto mechanic shop. If I had been driving any faster and this part gave way I (and my dog who was not restrained in any way) could have veered into oncoming traffic, or gone into one of the many deep ditches where the highway is built up through a large bog, or off a 120 foot high bridge into the Duluth Harbor, which could have resulted in severe injury or death to myself, my dog and others. The mechanic verified that Nissan has a "service agreement" instead of a full-on recall of these defective parts for cars driven in the "salt-belt" regions of the USA, WI and MN being two of those states. Because of this issue, I had to stay an additional week in order to have our car completed for driving. As of today, we have sent a reimbursement form and all pertinent information to Nissan. My husband and I strongly feel that Nissan should have sent out notices to all owners of these vehicles with this potentially deadly defect. We do not understand why there has not been a full recall!
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the vehicle decelerated unintendedly and failed to exceed 40 MPH while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then towed across three States to an independent mechanic, where the transmission was replaced. The vehicle was repaired. An unknown dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
rear control arm rusted , broke off
While driving, the car began to hesitate and studder during acceleration. I had to stop at a red light. Once I began to drive again the car shut off and the engine and battery icon came on. I was able to start the car again and move out of traffic. However, the studdering/hesitance continue. I called AAA to complete a battery and diagnostic test which they found no problems with battery, cables, alternator, etc. I was told to contact the dealer and report it. I contacted Nissan and was told there’s no recalls.
These lights are so dim, even after switching bulbs it’s like I have 2 iPhone flashlights on the front of my car, I can’t see anything at night without using my brights. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve almost crashed due to low visibility from these dim head lights. I think they have delaminated. No specific date of incident, everyday it’s an issue
I was merging on to I-94 from Grand Avenue in Gurnee, IL. I felt the rear end of my car hop. One merged, I noticed my steering was at 2:00, vs straight. After exiting expressway and hitting bumps in the road, I noticed my car "floated". Parked the vehicle and went to work. Left early to avoid traffic. Made it 1/4 mile and the car had a horrible hop to it. Parked the car to investigate. The rear control arm was completely rusted through and broken. I called the Nissan Dealership after reading there is a campaign to replace these under "warranty". Apparently this is an issue with 2013-2018 Altimas in areas where is salt used to help clear roadways in the winter. The dealership has my vehicle now and called to tell me the other one was bad as well. I could have seriously hurt or killed others or myself. This should be a recall and not an extended warranty. I received notification about the hood latch recall, nothing about a campaign regarding the rear control arm.
I tried to have my headlights replaced in 2020 but they told me to wait there was a lawsuit going about this. After it was resolved I had to go online and fill out some info to get on the list. Then I was told they had to order headlights for me. I had to call Nissan corporate office to get on the list. But still my headlight are not fix because they do not have headlights for me.
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while accelerating from a stop light, the vehicle jerked and experienced a delay while accelerating. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 110,000.
The lighting system on 2014 Nissan Altima completely failed to the point where we couldn't drive the vehicle at night. We were unable to see the road. While searching Internet for potential issues, we found out that Nissan settled a lawsuit regarding the issues related to failing headlight/delamination issue (Suarrez vs. Nissan, 1-855-786-0996). We were never notified of the issue or the opportunity to fix the problem. Please see your file MC-[XXX}. We were hoping to have this corrected, but Nissan refuses to cover the cost of repair, which was estimated at $1,575.58 by our local Nissan dealer. They claim that the deadlines no longer apply to our case. Any help is greatly appreciated since we are sure many other drivers are in similar situation, based on online forums and defect reporting. Thank you! “INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).”
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the front driver's and passenger's side doors intermittently failed to open as needed. Additionally, the front driver's and passenger's side seat belt sensors failed to chime when the seat belts were not securely fastened. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS EXTREMELY DIM
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving 38 MPH, the traction control warning light illuminated, and the rear suspension lowered abruptly. The contact stated that the passenger’s side rear lower control arm had snapped from excessive corrosion. The contact was able to drive to her residence at a reduced speed. An independent mechanic diagnosed that the rear passenger’s side lower control arm needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that the vehicle was not safe to drive until the repair was performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that the vehicle was not under recall. The manufacturer was contacted and advised as the dealer. The failure mileage was 110,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that after obtaining the vehicle, it was discovered that while driving at night, the low-beam headlights did not properly illuminate and were extremely dim causing a visibility hazard to the driver. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 119,000.
Sat 12/3/2022 ~2:15PM Hood latch failure resulting in the hood flying open while driving. (See NHTSA Recall 20V-315). *********************************** History: Thu 12/1/2022: Same Nissan service center (Delaney Nissan State College PA) that performed the hood latch recall repair did some additional work/maintenance on the vehicle that would have had them opening the hood. July 2021: Delaney Nissan State College PA performed the hood latch recall (Nissan # R21A6) *********************************** Driving hi-way speeds (55-60 mph) on Sat 12/3, the hood flew open, slamming back to the windshield, including damaging the roof. My wife was in the passenger seat and my adult daughter was in the backseat. No injuries, no damage to anything other than the car I was driving. Note: Neither my wife nor I noticed any hood vibration while driving, which might indicate that the hood was not seated fully/correctly. Car was taken to Delaney Nissan's extension body shop (Delaney Collision Center State College PA). The Collision Center did two things: 1: Inspect the hood latch mechanism for failure 2: Assess / estimate the damage. Wed 12/14, the Collosion center said 1: it "was not a faulty latch". They used a screw driver to verify the primary latch although they did say the secondary latch was in need of maintenance, needing lubrication and showed signs of corrosion. 2: $8,068.48 damage Note: I do have photos, that I will have to dig out and upload if you need them.
Rear control arm broke while driving.
Information entertainment system is completely inoperable. no backup camera or navigation or audio. Screen is black no power. without cameras there is safety risk to those near vehicle. Dealer quoted nearly $200 to look at it and run a diagnostic. we declined this offer but am willing to have it inspected. There are no messages or warning lamps on now or prior. it is unknown what caused this failure. all fuses are in tact. Thank you.
My headlights started getting dim about a year ago. I took my car to Firestone and they replaced them. Just a month or so later, I found out that there was a recall in the works. I finally received notification of the recall. I took my car to Nissan of Rockwall and had it tested and was advised that it did meet the qualifications for headlight replacement. This was in June 2022. I was told that the headlights had to be ordered and I was on the list. I have called several times and have been told that I am still on the list and that due to supply chain issues, they still have not received them. My headlights are so dim, that if the street is not well lit, it is very difficult for me to see to safely drive. I don't have the funds to rent another car, but what am I to do if this continues. I will have to drive with my bright lights on. I drive to and from work in the dark every weekday.
