TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN ARMADA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE WENT IN TO LIMP MODE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE COOLANT FROM THE RADIATOR LEAKED IN TO THE TRANSMISSION AND THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACTS RESIDENCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,000.
VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO 5TH GEAR AT SPEED AND UPON STOPPING AND SHUTTING THE VEHICAL OFF THE TRANSMISSION WAS PERCEIVED TO BE IN 4TH GEAR FOR APPROX. 30 MILES TILL OUR DESTINATION WAS ACHIEVE. WHEN ARRIVED THE FLUID WAS AT OPERATING LEVEL AND OF VISUAL CHECK NO LOOSE ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS WHERE FOUND. AFTER SITTING FIR 15 MIN VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND TRANSMISSION PROPERLY WENT THOUGH 1ST - 4TH GEARS PROPERLY WITH 5TH GEAR STILL MALFUNCTIONING BY MAKING A LOUD ROARING NOISE AND ENGINE SPEED ACCELERATING WITH THE ROARING GETTING LOADER AS ENGINE SPEED INCREASED.

ADDITIONALLY, THE CONTACT STATED THAT ANTI-FREEZE WAS LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. 4X4 FRONT DIFFERENTIAL PINION SEAL BLEW OUT WHILE DRIVING THROUGH A DEADLY SNOW BLIZZARD TO GET HOME. THIS IS THE 2ND PINION SEAL ON THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL THAT'S BEEN REPLACED. THE FIRST WAS AT ABOUT 40K MILES AND THE SECOND AT AROUND 68K MILES. FRONT DIFFERENTIAL FAILURES ARE BECOMING COMMON IN NISSAN TITANS AND ARMADAS, ESPECIALLY WHEN USED TO DRIVE HOME THROUGH SNOW STORMS WHEN THEY'RE NEEDED THE MOST. ON MARCH 7, 2008, I DROVE FROM CLEVELAND, OH TO COLUMBUS, OH. THE ROADS WERE SLIGHTLY SNOW COVERED BUT SLIPPERY AND I HAD EITHER THE AUTOMATIC OR FULL-TIME 4WD ENGAGED DURING THE 120 MILE TRIP. UPON ARRIVING AT MY DESTINATION, I PARKED THE VEHICLE ON A SLIGHT UPHILL GRADE. AS I EXITED THE VEHICLE AND BEGAN TO UNLOAD IT, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ROLL BACKWARDS. I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK IN AND STOP IT, AND DOUBLE CHECKED TO MAKE SURE THE SHIFT LEVER WAS FULLY IN THE PARKED POSITION. IT WAS. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND DROVE IT BACK UP THE GRADE, PLACED THE SHIFT LEVER FIRMLY IN PARK, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND WAITED. SURE ENOUGH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN ROLLING BACKWARDS. I MADE A SPECIAL ATTEMPT TO VERIFY THAT THE VEHICLE WHEELS WERE INDEED TURNING RATHER THAN THE VEHICLE SLIPPING WITH THE WHEELS LOCKED (IN PARK). OCTOBER 28, 2005 NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION DEAR SIR / MADAM, I CURRENTLY OWN A 2005 NISSAN ARMADA. WE ARE HAVING A CONTINUING PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE ROLLING BACK WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED WHILE ON AN INCLINE WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE. ABOUT 25% OF THE TIME WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY BEGINS ROLLING BACK AS IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL. THERE IS NO INDICATION THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP ROLLING WITHOUT IMMEDIATELY BRAKING OR ACCELERATING QUICKLY. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS DEPRESSED TO COUNTERACT THE ROLL IT SEEMS TO TAKES A SECOND OR TWO BEFORE THE VEHICLE STARTS MOVING FORWARD. BECAUSE THIS ROLLBACK HAPPENS UNEXPECTEDLY I FEEL IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE WE ACCIDENTALLY HIT THE VEHICLE BEHIND US, OR WORSE A PERSON WALKING BEHIND THE VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD IT TO THE DEALER TWICE TO HAVE THE PROBLEM ADDRESSED. BOTH TIMES IT WAS IN FOR SERVICE THEY SAID THIS WAS CONSIDERED NORMAL OPERATION. I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN 2005. THE 4WD HAS NEVER PERFORMED CORRECTLY. I HAVE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES AND IT STILL DOESN'T WORK. OF COURSE, NOW THE VEHICLE IS WAY OUT OF WARRANTY, AND NISSAN WILL NOT PAY FOR ANY REPAIRS DESPITE THE FACT THAT IT HASN'T WORKED RIGHT FROM THE MOMENT I BOUGHT IT. I'VE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO USE THE 4WD SYSTEM FOR ANY LENGTH OF TIME. I'VE SEEN OTHER POSTS ON SEVERAL OTHER FORUMS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM. FOR NOW, I'VE TAKEN THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL OUT OF MY VEHICLE, AND A FRIEND OF MINE IS GOING TO SEE IF THERE'S A FIX FOR IT. I THINK IT'S OBVIOUS THAT THE ARMADA AND TITAN HAVE DESIGN FLAWS CONCERNING THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL. I KEEP HEARING ABOUT LEAKING AND BLOWN SEALS. I LIKE THE CAR, BUT I PAID FOR A 4WD VEHICLE AND I THINK I SHOULD HAVE ONE. IS THERE ANY ACTION I CAN TAKE? AGAINST NISSAN MAYBE? MAYBE THEY COULD PAY ME TO BE OK WITH THEIR FAULTY VEHICLE?
