NISSAN RECOGNIZED LEAK IN RADIATOR, LEADING TO CORROSION IN TRANSMISSION RESULTING IN CLUNKING SHIFTING WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, UNTIL TRANSMISSION CANNOT SHIFT BY ITSELF. SECRET WARRANTY BULLETIN PUT OUT BUT ONLY TO NISSAN SERVICE CENTRES AND NOT SHARED WITH VEHICLES OWNERS UNTIL TO LATE FOR MOST. IF THEY RECALLED OR FIXED THE RADIATOR, WOULD NOT NOW NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION REPAIR FOR ~$7000. TRUCK WILL NO LONGER GO UP HILLS UNLESS ONE SHIFTS AS IF IT WERE MANUAL
TRANSMISSION RADIATOR CONTAMINATION. LOSS ACCELERATION ON HI WAY.
DOING GENERAL CHECK UP OF MY TRUCK WHILE PERFORMING AN OIL CHANGE NOTICED SLUDGES IN THE RADIATOR. IMMEDIATELY PERFORMED BYPASS AND DRAINED THE TRANSMISSION TO FIND IT FULL OF COOLANT. FIXED THE ISSUE MYSELF AFTER ALL THE NEW PARTS ARRIVED EARLY ENOUGH TO SAVE THE TRANSMISSION. HONESTLY FEEL LIKE NISSAN OWES EVERYONE THAT HAD THIS ISSUE A BRAND NEW TRUCK NO QUESTIONS ASKED NOT RIGHT SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN AFFECTED BY THIS ISSUE AND NHTSA SOMEHOW DENIED THE CLAIM ACCORDING TO THEIR INSPECTION DO YOUR JOB SLAM NISSAN MAKE THEM PAY UP.
THERE IS A HIGH FREQUENCY BUZZING / WHINING NOISE COMING FROM THE SECONDARY TIMING CHAIN SYSTEM. THIS HAS STARTED TO HAPPEN ON A 2007 NISSAN FRONTIER VQ40 4.0L V6 ENGINE. THE NOISE INCREASES IN FREQUENCY WITH ENGINE SPEED (RPM). ATTACHED IS THE SERVICE BULLETIN. SERVICE BULLETIN REFERENCE: NTB09-128 CLASSIFICATION: EM09-007 DATE: NOVEMBER 16, 2009
OUR 07 NISSAN FRONTIER WAS BEING DRIVEN TO BE INSPECTED FOR REGISTRATION WHEN, AT A STOP LIGHT, IT JUST TURNED OFF AND WOULD NOT START. WE HAD IT TOWED TO A MECHANIC. HE HAD TO SEND IT TO THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR THE COMPUTER TO BE REPLACED AND REPROGRAMMED. ACCORDING TO THIS MECHANIC, THE LEAK FROM THE RADIATOR HAS MIXED WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID IN THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING ALL THESE COMPONENTS TO FAIL AND NEED REPLACING. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE!!
WHILE IN THE FREEWAY, SPEED SLOWED DOWN TO 25 MPH. GOT OUT OF THE FREEWAY AND OPENED HOOD. FOUND OUT RADIATOR COOLANT LOW AND SOME WHITE STUFF I COULD SEE. RIGHT THEN IT CAME TO MY MIND THAT I HAVE THE NISSAN FAMOUS RADIATOR COOLANT LEAKING INTO TRANSMISSION AND WOULD NOT THINK IT WOULD HAPPEN TO MY TRUCK AT 38000 MILES. TRANSMISSION HAD MILKY LIKE FLUID. WHY IS THERE NO SAFETY RECALL WHEN SO MANY CARS ARE AFFECTED THAT PUT A LOT OF PEOPLE ON DANGER. INSTEAD I GOT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY OF RADIATOR. THE DEALER COULD HAVE REPLACED THE RADIATOR 5 YEARS AGO. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM FOR YEARS.
TAMARA RECALL PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSION SHIFTING WAS MOVING GOT CODE, TRANSMISSION SLOW TO MOVE
I HAVE A 2007 NISSAN FRONTIER WITH 68,000 MILES. NO MAJOR ISSUES UNTIL NOW. STARTED HAVING A TRANSMISSION NOISE DURING ACCELERATION. 10/2016, TOOK MY TRUCK TO MY LOCAL AUTO MECHANIC AND FOUND TRANSMISSION FLUID LOW. NO SIGNS OF LEAKS. ALSO CHECK COOLENT AND NO PROBLEMS SEEN. 11/5/16 I HEAD A POP AND SAW FLUID RUNNING OUT OF COOLENT OVERFLOW. TRANSMISSION STATED SLIPPING. 11/9/16 TOOK TRUCK TO MY LOCAL AUTO REPAIR SHOP AND THEY SEE THE COOLENT IS MIXED WITH OIL. ON 11/15/16 PER MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER I HAVE A CRACK IN MY TRANS COOLENT SYSTEM WHICH IS MIXING TRANSMISSION AND COOLENT FLUID. IN RESULT DAMAGED MY TRANSMISSION AND REQUIRES REPLACEMENT. HE HAD ASK ME TO CALL NISSAN FOR ADDITION ASSISTANCE. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER THAT THIS PROBLEM COULD HAVE BEEN RESOLVED BY A RADIATOR REPLACEMENT. ON 11/9/2016 I CONTACTED NISSANUSA AND I WAS HUNG UP ON TWICE. I FINALLY GOT IN TOUCH WITH A DECENT PERSON THE SET ME UP WITH A CASE. I ASKED FOR A DESCRIPTION OF THE DETAILS OF THE WARRANTY AND THEY SAID IT WOULD BE EMAILED. 11/15/2016, I'M STILL WAITING FOR THAT EMAIL. I CALLED AGAIN AFTER GETTING ONE RUDE PERSON AND WAS PUT ON HOLD THEN DISCONNECTED. I CALLED BACK ASKING FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE. I SHOULD BE GETTING A CALL TOMORROW. ALSO, I WAS TOLD ABOUT THE ISSUE A YEAR OR TWO AGO BY ANOTHER NISSAN OWNER. WHEN I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER TO ACQUIRE ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND AWARE TO THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT IT. ALSO, THEY DID NOT HAVE INFO OF ANY PREVENTIVE MEASURES THE COULD PREVENT THIS PROBLEM. IF THIS WAS A KNOW ISSUE THE WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED BY NISSAN.
THE TRUCK BEGAN LOSING POWER BECAUSE IT WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO LOWER GEARS. THIS PUT US AT RISK AT HIGHER SPEEDS. THE PROBLEM GOT WORSE AND WE TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER. WE LEARNED THAT NISSAN KNEW OF THE ISSUE, BUT FAILED TO NOTIFY US. THEY KNOWINGLY LET US DRIVE A DANGEROUS TRUCK FOR YEARS.. WE WERE LUCKY WE BROUGHT IT IN WHEN WE DID. WE ALWAYS HAD OUR TRUCK REPAIRED AT THE NISSAN DEALER, THEY HAD NUMEROUS OPPORTUNITIES TO TELL US, OR WRITE US. WE HAVE NOT MOVED! THIS IS WRONG AND THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT SETTLEMENT IS UNFAIR TO THOSE OF US WHO HAPPENED TO HAVE THE ISSUE AT MILEAGE OVER 100,000. THE JUDGE SHOULD HAVE REQUIRED NISSAN TO WARN US. WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO PAY $5000 TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED, WE ALREADY PAID $200 DOLLARS IN NEW FLUIDS THINKING THAT WAS THE ISSUE.
THE TRANSMISSION FLUID COOLER IN THE RADIATOR HAS BUSTED CAUSING RADIATOR COOLANT TO GET INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION. WHEN THE COOLANT MIXED WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID IT HAS CAUSED CATASTROPHIC DAMAGE TO THE INSIDE OF THE TRANSMISSION (GEARS, ETC.) A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO I NOTICED THE TRANSMISSION STARTING TO SHIFT MORE AND MORE ABRUPTLY. I DROVE TO WORK AND AT THE END OF MY SHIFT, MY TRUCK WOULD NOT START. I DISCOVERED THE REASON FOR IT NOT STARTING WAS DUE TO THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FUSE WAS BLOWN. I REPLACED THE FUSE, STARTED THE TRUCK AND THE FUSE BLEW AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE DISCOVERED THE ISSUE WITH THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. THIS IS A RECURRING ISSUE WITH 2005 -2010 PATHFINDER, FRONTIER AND XTERRA OWNERS. WHAT CAN BE DONE TO HOLD NISSAN ACCOUNTABLE FOR A FAULTY PRODUCT THAT THEY ARE OBVIOUSLY AWARE OF BUT WILL NOT CORRECT. THIS IS GOING TO COST ME $3500 - $4500 TO REPAIR
LIGHTS ON DASH CAME ON WHILE IN PARK AND ENGINE RUNNING. TOOK IT TO DEALER, AND WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE RADIATOR COOLANT HAD LEAKED INTO THE TRANSMISSION. REPAIR WILL COST $5,900.94 FOR NEW TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR. I HAD NO IDEA THAT ANYTHING THAT SERIOUS WAS GOING ON. I FELT NO ISSUES WHILE DRIVING.
NHTSA ACTION NUMBER 12004. THIS WEEK MY 2007 NISSAN FRONTIER'S TRANSMISSION FAILED AT ROUGHLY 62,000 MILES. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY NEAREST NISSAN DEALER WHERE THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT FAILED DUE TO A LEAK IN THE COOLING SYSTEM CAUSING COOLANT TO LEAK INTO THE TRANSMISSION CAUSING THE FAILURE. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THIS HAS BEEN SUCH A PROBLEM THAT NISSAN "EXTENDED THE WARRANTY" TO HELP FIX THE PROBLEM. THE ONLY ISSUE IS THAT THE DEDUCTIBLE FOR THE "WARRANTY" IS $3,000! THAT DOES NOT SEEM LIKE MUCH OF A WARRANTY TO ME. I FEEL LIKE NISSAN HAS ADMITTED THE PROBLEM AND IS TRYING TO AVOID A RECALL BY ISSUING THE EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH A DEDUCTIBLE THAT IS MOST LIKELY COVERING A MAJORITY OF THE COST OF THE JOB IF NOT ENTIRELY. SINCE THIS INVESTIGATION IS STILL OPEN I THOUGHT IT ONLY APPROPRIATE TO CONTRIBUTE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN FRONTIER. AFTER STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHT, THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO RESPOND WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE VALVE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION FLUID MIXED TOGETHER. THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000.
TRANS COOLER DEFECTED CAUSING WATER TO ENTER TRANSMISSION AND TRANSMISSION IS NOT LONGER FUNCTIONING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN FRONTIER. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE, IT FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RADIATOR WAS LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE IT WAS CONFIRMED THAT THE RADIATOR WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I HAD TO HAVE THE TIMING CHAIN REPLACED ON MY VEHICLE AT A COST OF $1550. NISSAN PUT PLASTIC GUIDES FOR THE TIME CHAIN KNOWING THEY WOULD WEAR DOWN CAUSING THE CONSUMER AN ADDITIONAL COST TO REPLACE THIS WAY EARLIER THAN MOST VEHICLES. AFTER THE REPAIR WORK THE NISSAN MECHANIC SHOWED ME THE PLASTIC GUIDES AND THERE WAS ALMOST NOTHING LEFT OF IT. VERY SCARY TO THINK WHAT WOULD OF HAPPENED IF I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN THE PLASTIC GUIDE WORE OUT. THIS COULD OF CAUSE SERIOUS HARM TO SOMEONE IF IT HAD COMPLETELY WARN DOWN WHILE DRIVING. NISSAN KNEW THIS AND HAS DONE NOTHING TO FIX THE PROBLEM AS ALL OWNERS OF THEIR VEHICLES ARE FORCES TO PAY THE DELIBERATE COST TO HAVE THE VERY EXPENSIVE OUT OF POCKET REPLACEMENT WORK DONE.
THE TRANSMISSION LINE RUNS THROUGH THE RADIATOR IN THESE VEHICLES. IT BROKE INSIDE RADIATOR AND PUT TRANSMISSION FLUID INTO COOLING SYSTEM AND COOLANT INTO TRANSMISSION, CAUSING FAILURE OF BOTH SYSTEMS. WHEN PROBLEM WAS DETECTED(SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND TRANSMISSION SLIPPING) I TOOK TO MECHANIC, WE FLUSHED TRANSMISSION AND COOLING SYSTEM. TRANSMISSION IS SYSTEMATICALLY FAILING ,
FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM FAILURE, REPLACEMENT REQUIRED. RECALL 10E019000 IS NOTED AND DID NOT INCLUDE THIS SPECIFIC VIN. THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED AT 114K MILES BUT WAS FELT IN THE IRREGULAR HANDLING MOVEMENTS FROM THE FRONT END WHILE STOPPING AND TURNING. DEALER REPLACED STRUTS AND LOWER CONTROL ARMS DUE TO FAILURE. I BELIEVE THIS FAILURE WAS PREMATURE TO THE LIFE OF WHAT SHOULD BE EXPECTED FROM THESE ITEMS FROM THE DIFFERENCE AFTER REPAIR THESE CONTROL ARMS WERE NOT 100% I RETAINED THE OLD PARTS FOR EVALUATION OF FAILURE DUE TO POOR CONSTRUCTION OR DESIGN. THE DEFECT WAS NOTICED AS A ;OUD CLUNGING NOISE DURING TURNS.
I NOTICED THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WENT UP WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHER SPEEDS AND WHEN THIS HAPPENED THE AIR CONDITIONER WOULD GET WARMER. WHEN I SLOWED DOWN TO 50-55 MPH THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE WOULD RETURN TO THE NORMAL POSITION. I ALSO BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT THE TRUCK WAS NO LONGER SHIFTING SMOOTHLY AT TIMES. I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS A DESIGN FLAW IN THE TRANSMISSION FLUID COOLER AND COOLER CONTAMINATION SO THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP. LUCKILY I DID NOT GET STRANDED ON THE ROAD, BUT NOW I HAVE TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AND MY PORTION OF THE BILL WILL BE $3500-$3700. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE SINCE I KEEP MY MAINTENANCE UP AND GET PROBLEMS HANDLED PROMPTLY.
TRANSMISSION SLIPPING AND VIBRATION WHEN DRIVING ALSO HARD KNOCK. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING IN THE CITY OR HIGH WAYS
MY NISSAN FRONTIER PICK UP WENT COMPLETELY DEAD AND WOULD NOT START AFTER I HAD REFUELED AT A GAS STATION. I CHECKED OUT THE BATTERY CONNECTIONS AND IGNITION AND FOUND NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. I THEN CALLED A LOCAL DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND HAD IT TOWED IN FOR DIAGNOSIS FOR REPAIR. THE SERVICE MANAGER CALLED ME THE NEXT DAY AND INFORMED ME THAT THE TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY WAS IN NEED OF REPLACEMENT AT A COST OF $1800.00. AFTER A WEEK OR SO I CALLED AND WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE WAS READY. I PICKED IT UP AND PAID THE BILL. SHORTLY AFTERWARD I NOTICED THE VEHICLE WAS SHIFTING AN LITTLE HARD BUT DISMISSED IT AS POSSIBLE CHARACTERISTIC OF A NEW PART FUNCTIONING DIFFERENTLY. AFTER ABOUT 4 MONTHS I NOTICED AN INCREASE IN THIS SHIFTING AND SO I CHECKED TRANSMISSION FLUID LEVEL WHICH WAS A LITTLE LOW BUT A HEALTHY COLOR. I ADDED TRANSMISSION FLUID AND TRANSMISSION OPERATED OK FOR ABOUT 6 WEEKS NOW THE TRANSMISSION IS SHIFTING VERY HARD AND SLIPS AND SOME TIMES THE VEHICLE JUMP FORWARD JUST SLIGHTLY WHEN AT A STOP SIGN OR STOP LIGHT. I HAVE BEGAN INVESTIGATING THIS PROBLEM ONLINE AND DISCOVERED THIS IS HAPPENING A LOT WITH NISSANS VEHICLES NOT JUST THE FRONTIERS, BUT ALSO PATHFINDERS AND EXTERRAS. SOME CONSUMER GROUP ARE SEEKING A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AND I HOPE THEY GET IT BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY $1800.00 EVERY SIX MONTHS.
FUEL GAUGE IS NOT ACCURATE OR INDICATES EMPTY WITH FUEL WARNING LIGHT DISPLAYED, EVEN WHEN TANK IS FULL. RESEARCH SHOWS THAT IT IS A DEFECTIVE FUEL LEVEL SENDING UNIT. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR REPAIR BY NISSAN. RUNNING OUT OF FUEL, UNEXPECTEDLY ON THE HIGHWAY COULD HAVE VERY DANGEROUS CONSEQUENCES.
VEHICLE IS WELL MAINTAINED WITH 115,000 MILES ODOMETER READING. THIS IS THE 2ND TIME THE REAR AXLE SEAS HAVE FAILED, RESULTING IN GEAR OIL SOAKING REAR BRAKES, RESULTING IN OIL CONTAMINATION OF BRAKE PADS AND RENDERING THE PARKING BRAKE INEFFECTIVE. THE REASON WAS EXPLAINED BY NISSAN AS A RUSTED $14 BREATHER TUBE IN THE DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING CAUSING PRESSURE BUILD UP TO RUIN THE $7 DOLLAR SEALS. THE RESULT IS A REPAIR ANY WHERE FRO $1500 FOR A DIFFICULT AXLE PULL TO GET TO THE SEALS OR UP TO$6500 TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE REAR ASSEMBLY. THE PROBLEM WITH SEAL REPLACEMENT IS IT IS DIFFICULT AND TIME CONSUMING AND MUST BE PERFORMED PERFECTLY OR THE SEALS WILL LEAK AGAIN. THE ROOT CAUSE IS A POOR BREATHER SYSTEM,. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND REFUSES TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE DEFECTIVE DESIGN AND APPLICATION. CONTINUED USE WILL CAUSE PREMATURE REAR BRAKE FAILURE AND TOO MUCH STRESS ON THE FRONT BRAKES TO STOP THE VEHICLE.
MY TRUCK STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY AND WHEN IT WAS TAKEN TOTHE MECHANIC IT WAS COLLANT IN THE TRANSMISSION. NOT ONKY DO INEED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION BUT ALSO THE RADIATOR. THERE WERENO SIGNS OF THIS ISSUE OR ANY WARNINGS.
TOOK MY NISSAN FRONTIER TO PACIFIC NISSAN IN SAN DIEGO FOR A CONSISTENT JERK/KNOCK WITH SOUND OF LIQUID GURGLING. NOTIFIED THAT I WAS LUCKY THAT THE TRUCK MADE IT TO THE SHOP. NOTIFIED THAT THERE IS A FLUID INTERMIX BETWEEN MY COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUIDS. HOW CAN THAT BE WHEN THEY ARE TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT SYSTEMS? NISSAN IS OFFERING THAT I PAY THE DEDUCTIBLE OF 3000$ TO GET IT FIXED. I JUST FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE FOR ALL FRONTIERS, XTERRAS AND PATHFINDERS AND NISSAN IS NOT BEING PRO-ACTIVE IN ISSUING REPAIRS PRIOR TO THIS PROBLEM HAPPENING AND STICKING THE CONSUMERS WITH THE COST TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. HOW CAN THIS BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN?
FUEL GAUGE DROPPED FROM FULL TO BELOW EMPTY AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. DIAGNOSED WITH P0463 ERROR CODE, FUEL SENSOR UNIT MALFUNCTION. IT APPEARS THAT NISSAN HAS REPLACED THE UNIT ON 2006 & 2008 UNITS, BUT FOR SOME REASON FAILED TO ADDRESS THE 2007 MODEL YEAR. VEHICLE HAS 54K MILES. THIS COULD CREATE SAFETY ISSUE IF SOMEONE RUNS OUT OF FUEL DURING HEAVY TRAFFIC.
DROVE A VERY SHORT DISTANCE NEAR MY WORK AND HEARD A BUBBLING SOUND IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, KNEW IMMEDIATELY SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE RADIATOR. A FEW SECONDS LATER IT WAS LIKE A SMALL EXPLOSION AND I WAS ABLE TO PARK. THE GOO COMING FROM UNDERNEATH WAS UNLIKE ANYTHING I HAD SEEN BEFORE. I HAD USAA TOW IT OFF, DEALERSHIP SAID CRACK IN THE RADIATOR CAUSED FLUIDS TO MIX AND CORRUPT THE TRANSMISSION AND FOUND OUT 15 DAYS LATER THAT NOTHING WOULD BE COVERED. DIDN'T KNOW ABOUT THE MASSIVE, WIDE-SPREAD PROBLEMS WITH THIS EXACT SCENARIO. DEALER DIDN'T KNOW, INSURANCE AND ADJUSTER NEVER SAID ANYTHING. WASN'T UNTIL A SMALL TOWN MECHANIC TOLD MY MOTHER-IN-LAW, THAT WE HEARD ABOUT THESE ISSUES FROM OTHER NISSAN OWNERS. I AM HESITANT TO HAVE FACTOR PARTS PUT BACK IN IT IF, ACCORDING TO OTHERS, THE SAME PROBLEM COULD RE-OCCUR.

WHEN ENTERING HWY 17 (70 MPH SPEED LIMIT) I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR TO ENTER ONCOMING TRAFFIC. INSTEAD OF INCREASING SPEED THE TRUCK STALLED. I PULLED ONTO THE RIGHT SIDE EMERGENCY LANE IN ORDER TO PREVENT TRAFFIC FROM RUNNING OVER MY VEHICLE. I PLACED THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK AND IT SEEMED TO SMOOTH OUT . MOTOR WAS RUNNING WITH EXCESS RPM'S AND TRANSMISSION WAS SLIPPING. THIS WAS A NEAR ACCIDENT. I COULD HEAR CARS BEHIND PLACING ON BRAKES AND BLOWING HORN. WHEN RETURNING HOME WAS TOLD BY NISSAN DEALERSHIP RADIATOR COOLER AND TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO FAULTY LINES. NISSAN SHOULD HAVE RECALLED THIS PROBLEM.

TRANSMISSION SLIPPAGE AND JERKING CAUSED MOTOR TO INCREASE RPMS. I HAD TO MOVE MY TRUCK OVER TO RIGHT OF PAVED LANE AND ONTO PULLOFF AREA IN ORDER TO PREVENT ACCIDENT. I WAS TOLD AT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP THAT I HAD TRANSMISSION DAMAGE DUE TO RADIATOR FLUID LEAKING INTO TRANSMISSION . IT COST ME $2500 TO REPAIR A PROBLEM THAT COULD HAVE COST LIVES. I UNDERSTAND THIS WAS A PROBLEM THAT WAS NOT RECALLED BY NISSAN.

FUEL GAUGE NOT MOVING TO FULL, AS GAS TANK GOT REFILLED. IT SHOWS EMPTY AFTER REFILL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATES. SOMETIMES STAY EMPTY UNTIL GAS OUT, NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. HARD TO TELL IF EMPTIED OR NOT. NEED RPAIR. MY TRUCK IS ONLY 40000 WHEN THIS HAPPENED, NOW ITS AT 60000 MILES. REPAIR WILL COST OVER $600 IF ONLY REPLACING INSIDE TANK FUEL GAUGE.

MY RADIATOR HAD FAILED CAUSING TRANSMISSION FLUID TO ENTER THE COOLANT AND COOLANT TO ENTER THE TRANSMISSION. ONCE NISSAN REPLACED THE RADIATOR AND FLUSHED OUT BOTH SYSTEMS, THE TRANSMISSION SEEM TO DRIVE OK, AND THE NISSAN DEALER SAID IT SEEMS TO BE OK. AFTER DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR A MONTH THE TRANSMISSION HAS DEVELOPED SLIPPAGE DUE TO THE PREVIOUS RADIATOR WITH AN INTERNAL TRANSMISSION COOLER THAT CAUSED INTERNAL DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION. IF NISSAN HAD BUILT THE TRUCK WITH AN EXTERNAL TRANSMISSION COOLER SEPARATE FROM THE RADIATOR, I WOULDN'T HAVE HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION ONCE THE RADIATOR FAILED. AS AN ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC WITH WORKING IN THE INDUSTRY FOR 10 YEARS, ALSO SERVING IN THE MILITARY AS A MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, AND WITH ALL THE DIFFERENT MODELS OF VEHICLES THAT I HAVE OWNED; HAVE I EVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WHERE ONE COMPONENT FAILS THAT WOULD CAUSE ME TO REPLACE A TRANSMISSION. I AM STARTING TO BELIEVE THAT NISSAN IS NOT ANY BETTER THAN OWNING ANY OTHER CAR, AS THE TECHNOLOGY SEEMS TO NOT BE GETTING BETTER BUT MORE COSTLY TO US THE CONSUMERS. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVIN AT ABOUT 30 MPH WHEN THE TRUCK TEMP GAUGE ELEVATED, AND COOLANT BURPING OUT. I IMMEDIATELY SHUT IT DOWN TO CHECK AND DISCOVER THE ISSUE WAS THE RADIATOR. ONCE TAKEN TO THE SHOP BY TOW TRUCK THE SHOP SAID THE TRANSMISSION FLUID HAD COOLANT INSIDE AND TRANSMISSION FLUID INSIDE THE ENGINE COOLANT AREA AND PASSAGES.
TRANSMISSION WILL NOT GO INTO GEAR DUE TO COOLANT LEAKING INTO TRANSMISSION. IT IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT THAT NISSAN HAS KNOWN ABOUT, BUT REFUSES TO FIX. THEY DO NOT TELL THE BUYER OF THE LOOMING CATASTROPHIC FAILURE, AND CONTINUED TO MANUFACTURE THE VEHICLES FOR SEVERAL MORE YEARS EVEN AFTER DISCOVERING THE PROBLEM, PROBABLY BECAUSE IT FAILS AFTER THE WARRANTY IS UP. I NOW HAVE A TRUCK THAT I BOUGHT JUST A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO FOR $17000 THAT WILL NOT MOVE. THE COST TO FIX THE PROBLEM CAN RANGE ANYWHERE FROM $4000 TO $10000 DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY THE DEFECT. IF IT WERE TO HAVE BEEN IN A WRECK AND THAT MUCH MONEY IN BODY DAMAGE WOULD HAVE OCCURRED IT WOULD BE TOTALED. HOW EVER SINCE IT IS A MECHANICAL ISSUE I AM STUCK PAYING $360 A MONTH FOR A USELESS VEHICLE, THAT EVEN IF I COULD AFFORD TO GET IT FIXED, I WOULD BE PUTTING WAY MORE MONEY INTO IT THAN IT IS WORTH. WHEN I PURCHASED IT FROM THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP IT HAD AN AS IS NO WARRANTY TAG IN THE WINDOW, BUT THAT WAS NOT TRUE. NISSAN HAD A WARRANTY FOR THAT SPECIFIC PROBLEM, BUT THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT TELL ME. WHEN I CALLED AND ASKED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THE SERVICE WRITER PRETENDED NOT TO KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT IT UNTIL I STARTED GRILLING HIM ABOUT IT. HE THEN ADMITTED IT WAS A BIG PROBLEM IN 3 OF THEIR VEHICLES, THEN TOLD ME IT WASN'T HIS PROBLEM, IT WAS SALES PROBLEM AND TRANSFERRED ME TO THEM. I TALKED TO THE MANAGER, HE SAID THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY NISSAN OFFERED, THE ONE THEY NEGLECTED TO MENTION, EXPIRED THE MONTH BEFORE MY TRANSMISSION FAILED, AND EVEN THEN I WOULD HAVE BEEN OUT $2500 FOR A KNOWN DEFECT THAT THEY CONTINUED TO PUT IN THE VEHICLES FOR SEVERAL MORE YEARS. I WAS LUCKY IT FAILED IN A PARKING LOT AND NOT WHEN I WAS PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC WHERE I COULD HAVE BEEN HIT BY ANOTHER CAR AND INJURED OR KILLED! THIS PROBLEM IS NOT THE CONSUMERS FAULT, IT IS NISSANS!

WHICH IS RIDICULOUS BECAUSE IT SHOULD IT BE UNLIMITED MILEAGE FOR THAT TYPE OF REPAIR. "TAKATA RECALL" TRANSMISSION FAILURE DUE TO WATER DAMAGE OF TRANSMISSION VALVE BODY DUE TO COOLANT LEAKAGE FROM RADIATOR INTO TRANSMISSION. I BEGAN TO NOTICE A VIBRATION AROUND 1200 TO 1600 RPM THAT WOULD SMOOTH OUT AT HIGHER RPMS.
TRANSMISSION FAILED DUE TO COOLANT INTERMIXING WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD CATASTROPHIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE DUE TO A CRACK IN THE COOLING SYSTEM. FIRST TIME WAS JUST OVER THE WARRANTY SO I WAS FORCED TO PAY A $2500 COPAY. THE VIHICLE STARTED SHOWING SIGNS OF A SECONDARY FAILURE JUST PRIOR TO 100000 MILES AND WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER THEY LIED TO ME AND SAID THERE WAS JUST RESIDUAL OIL IN THE RADIATOR FROM THE FIRST FAILURE... NOW I AM PAST ANY WARRANTY COPAY AND THE TRANSMISSION IS FAILING AT JUST 100500 MILES. THAT IS JUST TWO YEARS (LESS THAN 18000 MILES) AFTER THEY REPLACED THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT CONSUMERS ARE BEING FORCED TO PAY FOR A KNOWN ISSUE OF POOR ENGINEERING ESPECIALLY WHEN IT WAS SUPPOSEDLY FIXED BY THE DEALER WITH NISSAN PARTS. THEY HAVE OBVIOUSLY NOT FIXED THE PROBLEM BUT JUST REPLACED WITH ANOTHER DEFECTIVE PART. ON TOP OF THAT THEY DENIED THERE WAS A PROBLEM TO SO I WOULD CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL IT WAS PAST THE EXTENDED WARRANTY (FROM 2012 CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT). WHILE THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT IN EITHER INDECENT THERE WAS A NEAR COLLISION THE FIRST TIME AS I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION AND THE SECOND THERE WAS TRAFFIC BEHIND ME THAT HAD TO AVOID REAR-ENDING ME AS THE VEHICLE STOPPED, THIS IS A DANGEROUS DEFECT THAT COULD RESULT IN INJURY OR DEATH.

I PARKED IT THEN HAD IT TOWED, TURNED OUT THE RADIATOR COOLANT HAS LEAKED INTO MY TRANSMISSION. IT'S BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR OVER 3 WEEKS NOW AND THE REPAIR COST IS GOING TO BE AROUND $6500.

TRANSMISSION FLUID COOLER FAILED CAUSING WATER TO TO GET INTO THE TRANSMISSION FLUID WHICH DAMAGED THE TRANSMISSION COMPUTER VALVE BODY AND OTHER TRANSMISSION PARTS. AFTER LOOKING @ NUMEROUS COMPLAINT ON THE WEB I HAVE LEARNED THAT THIS HAS BEEN A COMMON PROBLEM THAT NISSAN IS AWARE OF. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT NISSAN DID NOT SEND OUT ANY NOTIFICATION THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THIS COOLER FAILING. I READ WHERE THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON SOME VEHICLE BUT NO NOTIFICATIONS WERE SENT OUT TO CONSUMERS WHO OWNED AFFECTED VEHICLES. EVEN IF THEY DID NOT DO A RECALL IT WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER IF THEY WOULD HAVE WARNS CONSUMERS OF THE POSSIBILITY OF THIS HAPPENING. IT'S MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE TO CHANGE A RADIATOR THAN TO REBUILD OR REPLACE A TRANSMISSION! FORTUNATELY MY TRANSMISSION WENT JUST AFTER I MADE HOME FROM A TRIP. NOW I AM STUCK WITH OVER $3500.00 TRANSMISSION REBUILD THAT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOID IF NISSAN HAD DONE THE RIGHT THING BY LETTING PEOPLE KNOW THAT THEY HAD PROBLEMS WITH THEIR TRANSMISSION COOLERS.
