ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO MY 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA'S ENGINE JUST SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. OVER THE NEXT TWO DAYS THIS HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES. UPON TAKING MY MAXIMA TO BE REPAIRED THE MECHANIC INFORMED ME OF THE RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME THE PROBLEM WAS WITH SENSORS FOR THE CAM, PER THE COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS. HE THEN INFORMED ME THAT I SHOULD TAKE IT TO A NISSAN DEALER AS THIS WAS A RECALL SITUATION THAT NISSAN SHOULD FIX FOR FREE. UPON TAKING THE MAXIMA TO GURNEE NISSAN IN GURNEE ILLINOIS, I WAS CHARGED $65 DOLLARS FOR DIAGNOSTICS, QUOTED OVER $500 FOR THE REPAIRS AND VEHEMENTLY TOLD THERE IS NO RECALL ON THE 2003 MAXIMAS. I THEN CONTACT NISSAN, AFTER FINDING THE RECALL NOTICE ON THEIR WEBSITE AND A NUMBER TO CALL FOR ASSISTANCE. FOR THE LAST TWO WEEKS I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DRIVE MY CAR AND HAVE RECEIVED NO ASSISTANCE FROM NISSAN. WHILE I CAN FIND THE RECALL ON THEIR WEBSITE, PROVIDED THE NISSAN RECALL NUMBER FROM THE NISSAN WEBSITE, THEY CONTENDED FIRST IT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, THEN IT WAS NOT A GOOD VIN, THEN THE VIN WAS GOOD BUT WAS OUTSIDE THE RANGE FOR THE RECALL, THEN IT WAS IN THE RANGE, BUT DID NOT QUALIFY AND FINALLY TODAY I WAS TOLD, "YOUR VIN IS NOT IN THE RANGE, BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE RANGE OF VINS ARE." *TR
2003 MAXIMA SHUTS OFF WHEN STARTING IT, BACK TO BACK. CAR HAS LESS THAN 80K MILES. MECHANIC SAID IT IS THE CAM SHAFT SENSOR POSITION & THIS CAR IS HORRIBLE. THIS IS A LIFE THREATENING ISSUE AND MUST BE FIXED BY NISSAN ONLY. IT WAS THEIR ERROR. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT AGAINST NISSAN AS WELL. *TR
2003 NISSAN MAXIMA. CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES FOR NO APPARENT REASON NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. *TGW SOON AFTER, THE SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD. THE CONSUMER THEN WENT TO A MECHANIC WHO INFORMED HIM, THE PROBLEM WAS A RECALL ISSUE. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED NISSAN AND WAS TOLD NOTHING WAS COMING UP IN THEIR COMPUTER. THE CONSUMER PAID FOR THE REPAIRS OUT OF POCKET, AFTER NISSAN COULD NOT HELP HIM. THE CONSUMER STATED HE IS THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE VEHICLE AND NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. *JB
AIRBAG BURN/ INJURY ' MY CAR HYDROPLANED AND CRASHED AGAINST CENTER DIVIDER ON FREEWAY DURING RAINY WEATHER. THE DRIVER-SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED UPON CRASH AND CAUSED A BRUISE AND 2ND DEGREE BURN TO MY LEFT ARM (INNER FOREARM). THE BRUISE INJURY WAS FROM THE IMPACT OF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. ADDITIONALLY, THE NISSAN LOGO (DECAL) ON THE STEERING WHEEL IMPACTED MY ARM AND CAUSED A 2ND DEGREE BURN - THIS BURN HAS NOW LEFT A PERMANENT SCAR IN THE SHAPE OF THE NISSAN LOGO ON MY LEFT ARM. I NOTICED THAT THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT ON THE NISSAN CARS ' THEIR NISSAN LOGO DECALS ARE NOT FLUSH WITH THE STEERING SURFACE (LIKE OTHER CAR MANUFACTURERS) AND HENCE CAN SEVERELY IMPACT THE DRIVER IN CASE OF AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. *TR
APPROXIMATELY A WEEK AFTER A REMOTE STARTER WAS INSTALLED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IN THE VEHICLE CAME ON, INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH THE CAM POSITION SENSOR. THE REMOTE STARTER WAS REMOVED (BYPASSED BY INSTALLERS) AND THE CONDITION BEING EXPERIENCED CONTINUED. THE RESULT IS THE CAR FAILING TO START PROPERLY AND AT TIMES CUTTING OFF WHILE IN OPERATION INCLUDING WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION, WHICH CAN CAUSE A CRASH. THE FAILURE IS STILL BEING EXPERIENCED AND THE CAM POSITION SENSOR WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. *TR
FAILURE TO START, SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT SOON ON -- TOOK TO SVC STATION, DID DIAGNOSTIC BAD CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE SERVICE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED IN REFERENCE TO RECALL # 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). HE WAS ADVISED THAT SINCE HIS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL, HE WAS INELIGIBLE FOR A FREE REMEDY. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 92, 000 . THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH A VEHICLE CRASHED INTO HER DRIVERS SIDE WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SPIN AND CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE ON THE PASSENGERS SIDE. THE SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. AND TWO OCCUPANTS WERE INJURED. THE CAUSE OF THE NON-DEPLOYMENT IS CURRENTLY UNKNOWN. SHE NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER OF THE FAILURE.

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON CONTINUOUSLY. THE DEALER STATED THE FAILURE IS RELATED TO THE CIRCUIT BOARD FOR THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR OR CAM POSITION SENSOR AND COULD HAVE IMPROPER SOLDER DEFORMATION WHICH IS RELATED TO NHTSA# 03V455000, COMPONENT: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING. I HAVE A 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA THAT STALLED WHILE I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR RESTARTED AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES AND I LATER RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM. APPARENTLY, THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THAT PROBLEM (RECALL 03V455) INVOLVING 3 FAULTY SENSORS AND MY VIN FALL INSIDE THE RANGE OF APPLIED VINS JN1DA*1**3T 400002 - 515067. I DID HAVE MY CAR REPAIRED BY NISSAN AT A COST TO ME OF OVER $416 WHEREAS, NISSAN REPLACED TWO OF THE SENSORS. AT THIS TIME, NISSAN INSISTS THAT MY CAR AND VIN DO NOT APPLY. I HAD READ ON THE INTERNET THAT THEY ARE OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND NISSAN REFUSES TO CORRECT THEIR PROBLEM ALSO. I AGREE THAT THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM SINCE THE CAR BEHIND ME CAME CLOSE TO HITTING ME WHEN MY CAR STALLED AND THE DRIVER PROCEEDED TO HONK THE HORN AND SHOUT AND ME. IT IS MY BELIEVE THAT NISSAN HAS NOT BEEN DILIGENT IN THEIR EFFORTS TO GET THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED AND GET THIS UNSAFE CARS OFF THE ROAD. I WOULD LIKE NISSAN TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE BY 1.) MY 2003 MAXIMA STALLED OUT TWICE WHILE DRIVING, ONCE WHILE AT A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION DURING RUSH HOUR. MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT NISSAN HAD RECALLED THE 2003 MAXIMAS FOR A FAULTY CAM SENSOR THAT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO STALL. HOWEVER, IN TYPICAL FASHION, NISSAN TOLD ME THAT MY VIN DID NOT FALL UNDER THE RECALL AND THEY WOULD NOT HELP ME. MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP INFORMED HIM THAT THE PART WAS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER AND HE COULD NOT REPAIR MY VEHICLE. IN THE MEANTIME, I COULD POSSIBLY BE IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE OF FAULTY MANUFACTURING. MY MECHANIC ALSO INFORMED ME THAT NISSAN HAS CHANGED THE PART NUMBER, MEANING THAT THE PART IS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM, WHICH PROVES THAT MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE REPAIRED BY NISSAN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE HESITATED INTERMITTENTLY. ON SEPARATE OCCASIONS, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE ENGINE RESTARTED AND THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURES OCCURRED SPONTANEOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURES WERE RELATED TO THE CAMSHAFT SENSOR. THE TECHNICIAN DISCOVERED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED IDENTICAL FAILURES MENTIONED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 215,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 225,000.
I HAVE A 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA AND AM HEARING AN ENGINE WHINE NOISE WHEN THE CAR IS REACHING HIGHER SPEEDS. I DO NOT YET HEAR IT WHEN IDLING BUT I AM TOLD ITS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE I DO. THE NOISE SOUNDS KIND OF LIKE WHAT AN ALTERNATOR HUM IN A POORLY GROUNDED SOUND SETUP MAKES. YOU CAN TURN OFF THE RADIO AND A/C BUT YOU CAN STILL HEAR IT. *TR

ALL OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AFTER A FEW MINUTES. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC, WHICH INDICATED THAT THERE WAS A CAM AND CRANK SENSOR MALFUNCTION (CODE P0340). THE PREVIOUS OWNER HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE LESS THAN 115,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH AND PROCEEDING TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON A SEPARATE OCCASION AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE CAM SENSOR AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 69,000.
NISSAN MURANO, 2003 WITH APPROXIMATELY 75,400 MILES. AUGUST 9, 2008, MY DAUGHTER AND WIFE WERE DRIVING THE CAR AND CALLED ME ON MY CELL PHONE VERY EXCITED AND UNSET STATING, ?THE CAR WON?T ACCELERATE AND IT IS JERKING,, WHAT SHOULD WE DO?? I INSTRUCTED THEM TO PARK THE CAR UNTIL I ARRIVE TO CHECK IT OUT I DIDN?T WANT THEM TO GET ONTO THE MAJOR HIGHWAY IN THE HEAVY TRAFFIC. I ARRIVED AND DROVE THE CAR HOME. I PARKED THE CAR IN OUR GARAGE AND DIDN?T DRIVE IT UNTIL MONDAY FOR WORK. HAD NO PROBLEMS THAT DAY AND DROVE IT TO WORK, BOTH WIFE AND I COMMUTE TO THE SAME LOCATION. AFTER WORK ON THIS VERY HEAVILY TRAVELED INTERSTATE ON OUR WAY HOME I EXPERIENCED THE CAR HESITATING AND THE RPM GAGE RIVED UP OVER 4000 RPMS AND THE CAR STARTED TO LURCH AND HESITATE AND HAD NO RESPONSE FROM THE ACCELERATOR. VEHICLE STARTED TO LOSE MOMENTUM SO I EXITED AT THE NEAREST EXIT. I NURSED THE CAR TO A PARKING LOT OFF THE MAIN INTERSTATE AND STOP. I CALLED THE NISSAN DEALER WHERE I JUST HAD THE CAR SERVICED THE WEEK BEFORE AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM I WAS HAVING. I INFORMED THE SERVICE REP THE CAR WOULD BE DELIVERED BY A WRECKER SERVICE TO HAVE THE CAR DROPPED OFF; READ CODES AND WOULD GET BACK LATER THE NEXT DAY. I CALLED THE NEXT DAY AND WAS INFORMED THE CODES WERE MANY AND THEY WERE WAITING FOR THE NISSAN HEADQUARTERS TO GIVE THEM SOME INSTRUCTION. WAS INFORMED TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION, COST $5400. THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE A VERY WELL KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND NISSAN IS WELL AWARE OF IT. I BLOGGED THE INTERNET, NISSAN MURANO FORUM AND TO MY AMAZEMENT UNCOVERED MANY INDIVIDUALS EXPERIENCING THE VERY PROBLEM WITH MY CAR, TRANSMISSION. I STRONGLY FEEL NISSAN SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ON THE PROBLEM AND INDIVIDUALS SHOULD HAVE THEIR MONIES REFUNDED AND NISSAN SHOULD BE FINED HEAVILY FOR THEIR NEGLECT AND NOT ACCEPTING RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. *TR
2003 MAXIMA SE 110,000 MILES HAS OIL LEAKING THROUGH SEALS BETWEEN VALVE COVERS AND SPARK PLUG WIRES. ONE IGNITION COIL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE REAL ISSUE IS THAT THE SEALS CANNOT BE REPAIRED OR REPLACED. INSTEAD, THE VALVE COVERS HAVE TO BE RE-PURCHASED ADDING AN EXTRA $290.00 IN PARTS TO A LABOR INTENSIVE BILL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA GLE. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD COMPLETELY SHUT OFF. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS PRIOR TO THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AT LEAST TWELVE TIMES. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 71,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 69,000.
THE 2002-2003 NISSAN MAXIMA ARE KNOWN TO BE BURNING ENGINE OIL. THERE IS ALSO A SIGNIFICANT FLAW WHICH MAKES THE CAR LEAK ENGINE OIL THROUGH THE VALVE COVERS INTO THE SPARK PLUGS AND WITH THE IGNITION SYSTEM CLOSE BY, THERE IS POTENTIAL FOR FIRE IN THESE VEHICLES. NISSAN OF NORTH AMERICA IS NOT HELPING OR WILLING TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE AND SHRUGS CUSTOMERS BY SAYING ITS NORMAL. IT IS NOT NORMAL TO HAVE LOST 3/4TH OF YOUR ENGINE OIL BY THE TIME NEXT OIL CHANGE IS DUE ! *TR
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA. ON SEVERAL OCCASION HIS VEHICLE LOST POWER, HOWEVER HE WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND THE VEHICLE TO RESTART. AFTER A FEW MINUTES THE VEHICLE LOSE POWER AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURE TOOK A REPORT, NEVERTHELESS, THE CONTACT WAS NOTIFIED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL 03V455000. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSE. THE DEALER INFORMATION WASN'T AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000 THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
ACCORDING TO THE NISSAN SERVICE MANAGER THE SUN ROOF MECHANISM ON MY 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA HAS FAILED DUE TO WARPING OF CABLES. THE REPAIR COST IS ALMOST $2500 AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY. I'M INTERESTED TO LEARN IF THIS IS A COMMON COMPLAINT ABOUT NISSAN SUN ROOFS, AND IF ANY FIRES OR FAILURES OF THESE SYSTEMS HAVE CAUSED VEHICLE DAMAGE OR SAFETY PROBLEMS. *TR

THE XENON HEADLIGHTS ON MY 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA HAVE BECOME CLOUDED WITH DRAMATICALLY REDUCED LIGHTING EFFECTIVENESS. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE ONE HEADLIGHT TWO YEARS AGO, AND THE OTHER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED SHORTLY. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
THE CAR STALLED ON MY WHILE I WAS STILL TRAVELING AT 60MPH AND I LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR. THE VEHICLE STARTED DRIFTING TO THE RIGHT FORCING ME TO GET OFF THE ROAD WHERE IT SUDDENLY STOPPED. A LITTLE SCARY DON'T YOU THINK? THE VEHICLE ALSO HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. I LATER HAD THE CAR DIAGNOSED AND IT PULLED AN PO340 CODE(CAM POSITION SENSOR, CRANK POSITION SENSOR) WHICH WAS SUPPOSEDLY RECALLED BY NISSAN ON OCT 04. MY CAR'S MANUFACTURE DATE WAS 12/02. I CALLED NISSAN CORPORATE AND THEY TOLD ME THAT APPARENTLY MY CAR WASN'T UNDER RECALL WHEN A BUNCH OF OTHER WEBSITES(CARS.COM, INTERNETAUTOGUIDE.COM, NHTSA.GOV). I KNOW THIS DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE WHEN MY LIFE WAS IN DANGER AND I OWN 2 OTHER NISSAN CARS, I DON'T GET WHY A COMPANY WOULDN'T CARE ABOUT ITS LOYAL CUSTOMERS. I AM A COLLEGE STUDENT AND LOOKS LIKE THIS ISSUE IS GOING TO RUN ME $1200.00 WHEN PERSONALLY I DON'T KNOW WHY I NEED TO BE PAYING FOR IT WHILE THE SAME CAR HAS A RECALL ON IT AND THE RECALL HAPPENS TO BE THE SAME PROBLEM MY CAR HAS. I WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND HAD TO BE PUSHED "OUT OF HARM'S WAY BY A TRUCKER, AND A COUPLE WHO STOPPED TO HELP. I WAS BROUGHT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP (20 MILES AWAY IN ORANGEBURG, SC). THE SERVICE DEPT. DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL PUMP SHUT DOWN, STOPPED WORKING. THE PART HAD TO BE ORDERED, AND I HAD TO PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR FROM ENTERPRISE , SO THAT I COULD DRIVE THE REMAINING 3 HOURS BACK TO MY HOME IN TRAVELERS REST (GREENVILLE,-SPARTANBURG AREA). THE PART ARRIVED ON 9-25-2007, AND I DROVE 3 HOURS BACK TO ORANGEBURG TO PICK UP MY CAR AND RETURN THE RENTAL). MY HUSBAND ASKED FOR THE "OLD FUEL PUMP". I HAD TO PAY $350.00 FOR THE PART AND LABOR AND $100 FOR TOWING. THE INSURANCE CO. REIMBURSED FOR TOWING. MY HUSBAND THOUGHT IT HIGHLY UNUSUAL FOR THE FUEL PUMP TO GO AT SUCH LOW MILEAGE ON THE VEHICLE (57,000). THIS WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. *JB

ON FEBRUARY 14TH OF THIS YEAR, DURING A REGULAR TIRE INFLATION INSPECTION, I NOTED THREE BULGES ON THE OUTSIDE SIDEWALL OF THE LEFT FRONT NITTO 450, 225X50X17 TIRE. I IMMEDIATELY KNEW THAT I WAS HAVING A TIRE FAILURE AND THAT IT MUST BE REPLACED ASAP. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR TO DISCOUNT TIRE WHERE THE TIRE HAD BEEN PURCHASED AND THEY REPLACED BOTH FRONT TIRES FOR SOMETHING OVER $300. THE DEFECTIVE TIRE HAS MOSTLY HIGHWAY MILES ON IT AND WAS PURCHASED APRIL 6, 2004. I AM RETIRED AND MOST OF THE MILES WERE ACCUMULATED WHILE ON VACATION. THE TIRE HAD LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON IT AND HAD SUBSTANTIAL TREAD REMAINING. THE TIRE WAS WELL MAINTAINED AND I CONSIDER ITS FAILURE PREMATURE. SUBSEQUENTLY, I E-MAILED NITTO CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WROTE THE NORTH AMERICAN PRESIDENT OF TOYO, THE TIRE MANUFACTURER. THE E-MAIL AND FOLLOW UP LETTER WERE FORWARDED IN FEBRUARY OF THIS YEAR AND ELICITED NO RESPONSE FROM NITTO OR TOYO. I RETAINED THE TIRE AND HAVE IT IN PROTECTED STORAGE. THE HEADLIGHTS TO A 2003 NISSAN MAXIMA HAVE BEEN STOLEN ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. ON BOTH OCCSSIONS THE THIEFS BENT THE INTERNAL METAL FRAME THAT MOUNTS THE BUMPER TO THE CAR TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO THE HEADLIGHT FROM BELOW. THIS FRAME IS A SHEET METAL STAMPING THAT CAN EASILY BE BENT BY APPLYING A SMALL AMOUNT OF A PERSONS BODY WEIGHT TO THE STRUCTURE. THE SHEET METAL CONSTRUCTION OF THE FENDER AND HOOD ALSO ALLOW A THIEF TO GAIN ACCESS TO THE HEADLIGHT BY FORCIBLY BENDING BACK THESE STRUCTURES. THE PLASTIC BRACKET THAT HOUSES THE HEADLIGHT AND MOUNTS IT TO THE FRAME OF THE CAR IS SHATTERED BY PRYING IT FROM THE FRAME WITH A TOOL. THIS PLASTIC STRUCTURE IS NOT SUFFICIENTLY STRONG ENOUGH TO DETER A THIEF FROM STEALING THE HEADLIGHT. THERE IS AN ADDITIONAL SHEET METAL STRUCTURE THAT MOUNTS THE PLASTIC HEADLIGHT HOUSING TO THE FRAME OF THE CAR. THIS STRUCTURE HAS AN ELECTRICAL BOX ATTACHED TO IT. IN BOTH CASES OF THEFT THIS STRUCTURE WAS FORCIBLY BENT BACK TO ACCESS THE REAR OF THE HEADLIGHT FOR REMOVAL. THIS STRUCTURE TOO IS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO PREVENT A THIEF FROM FORCIBLY GAINING ACCESS TO THE HEADLIGHT. AFTER THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, I BROUGHT THE CAR TO POUGHKEEPSIE NISSAN FOR THEM TO INSTALL THE 'ANTI-THEFT DEVICE'. I DON'T KNOW IF OR WHAT WAS DONE BUT OBVIOUSLY IT DID NOT DETER THE THIEF(S). I HAVE BEEN FINANCIALLY BURDENED BY THIS. NOT ONLY DO I HAVE TO PAY A DEDUCTIBLE BUT HAVE TO RENT A CAR.*AK
WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH CONSUMER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A CEMENT WALL. UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. DRIVER SUSTAINED MAJOR INJURIES, AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL BY AMBULANCE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. *AK
