ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK (ESCL) WARRANTY EXTENSION. I AM A RECENTLY DIVORCED SINGLE MOTHER TRYING TO SURVIVE IN THIS TOUGH ECONOMY. I PARK MY VEHICLE AT WORK, AND I WORK NEAR AN AIRFIELD, AT FORT LAUDERDALE AIRPORT. IMAGINE MY SURPRISE WHILE ON LUNCH BREAK, I PUSH TO START MY VEHICLE AND NOTHING HAPPENS. I WAS STRANDED. MANY OF MY MALE COLLEAGUES ATTEMPTED TO HELP ME, THINKING IT WAS THE BATTERY, OR A POSSIBLE FUSE, BUT NOTHING THEY DID COULD START MY VEHICLE. ONE SUGGESTED I CONTACTED NISSAN SERVICE TO EXPLAIN WHAT WAS GOING ON...AND BEFORE I COULD FINISH MY SENTENCE OF WHAT LIGHTS WERE ON MY DASHBOARD, THE SERVICE EMPLOYEE KNEW IT WAS THE STEERING LOCK COLUMN. I ENDED UP GETTING MY VEHICLE TOWED (ABOUT $70) TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND HAD TO LEAVE MY VEHICLE OVERNIGHT. I HAD TO RENT A VEHICLE FOR TWO DAYS AND HAD TO PAY LATE FEES BECAUSE I WASN'T ABLE TO PICK UP MY TODDLER FROM DAYCARE BEFORE THEY CLOSED. THE FOLLOWING DAY, AND WITHIN 40 MINUTES THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP OPENING, THEY CALLED TO LET ME KNOW MY CAR WAS NOW FIXED AND IT WOULD COST ME $1200!!! I'M SURE IT TOOK LESS THAN THE 40 MINUTES TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE AND I WAS PAYING OVER $400 FOR LABOR. I NEVER HEARD OF THIS MECHANICAL FAILURE CONCERNING MY VEHICLE BUT AFTER RESEARCHING, I AM NOW SEEING THE PLETHORA OF COMPLAINTS AND I AM SUPER DISAPPOINTED WITH NISSAN OVER THE FACT THAT THIS WAS NOT CONSIDERED A RECALL. I SHUDDER AT THE THOUGHT OF BEING STRANDED WITH MY SON IN AN INCONVENIENT OR DANGEROUS LOCATION. THEN TO FIND OUT THERE IS NOTHING I CAN DO RECOUP MY EXPENSE. I HAD TO OPEN A TRADE LINE TO COVER THE EXPENSE BECAUSE I CANNOT AFFORD TO SPEND THE CASH I HAVE AT THIS TIME. THIS IS JUST NOT RIGHT AND IT IS CERTAINLY NOT FAIR, NOT TO ME OR ANYONE WHO HAS BEEN AFFECTED BY THIS. I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE SOMEONE LOOKING INTO THIS ISSUE AND PUSH THE RECALL TO INDEFINITE.
CAR WOULDN'T START, STEERING WHEEL LOCK WOULD NOT DISENGAGE. ALSO WINDOWS WENT DOWN WITH AUTO-DOWN FEATURE ON KEY BUT NO WAY TO PUT THEM BACK UP.
DRIVER AIRBAG LIGHT CONTINUES TO BLINK ON THE DASHBOARD. DEALER STATES THAT IT IS THE DRIVERS AIRBAG (DIAGNOSIS COST 119 ) WHICH NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF 1100 DOLLARS. THEY REPLACED THE AIRBAG IN 2010.. BUT NOW IT COMES ON THE CAR HAS 87000 MILES ON IT AND I HAVE HAD IT SINCE 2009
TAKATA INFLATORS WITH WHAT HAVING FRONT END STRUTS HAVE BEEN CRACKED VERY BADLY WHERE STEERING IS HARD TO MAINTAIN ON ANY PARTS OF DRIVING IS 100% BAD.
TAKATA RECALL - I WAS AT THE BARBERSHOP GETTING MY HAIRCUT AND AFTERWARDS WHEN LEAVING I WAS ATTENDING TO CRANK UP AND DRIVE OFF BUT MY CAR WOULDN'T CRANK AND IT WAS IN LOCK MODE (STEERING WHEEL LOCK MODULE )AND TOOK ME ALMOST A HOUR OR TWO BEFORE IT CRANKED UP, SO I WAS VERY FRUSTRATED BECAUSE THIS HAPPENED AND THERE WAS A LOCK INDICATOR LIGHT ON IN THE DASH AND TODAY ON SEPTEMBER 18TH, 2016 IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND NOW IT WON'T SAY ANYTHING SO I CANT EVEN DRIVE MY 09 MAXIMA SOMEONE PLEASE GET A RECALL FOR THIS.
ME AND MY FAMILY WERE OUT OF TOWN OF A WEEKEND GETAWAY, NOT KNOWING THIS STEERING WHEEL LOCK SITUATION WAS ABOUT TO LEAVE US STRANDED OUT OF TOWN AND RUIN A PLANNED OUT WEEKEND. BASICALLY WE ARRIVED TO OUR DESTINATION AS PERFECT AS CAN BE, PARK THE CAR AND ME AND MY FAMILY LEFT MY 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA PARKED FOR A FEW HOURS AS WE ENJOYED OURSELVES. WHEN RETURNING TO THE CAR IS WHEN THE PROBLEM BEGAN AND SENSE OF WORRY HIT MY FIANCE AND KIDS FACES. THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED AND WE HAD NO CONTROL OF THE CAR NO MORE. STRANDED AND TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS EXACTLY GOING ON WITH THE HELP OF GOOGLE AND YOU TUBE. A LOVELY MEMORABLE WEEKEND AWAY BECAME A NIGHTMARE IN A MATTER OF HOURS. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN NISSAN AFTER READING ALL THE SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AND MALFUNCTIONS INDIVIDUALS HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH AND NO SUPPORT OR RECALL FROM NISSAN. ME AND MY FAMILY WERE STRANDED IN A CITY WERE WE HAD NO FAMILY RELATIONS FOR SUPPORT IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. MY NISSAN STEERING LOCK SITUATION REALLY OPENED MY EYES TO THE DANGERS OF THIS. DEFINITELY RECONSIDERING WHAT TO DO WITH MY CAR AND MY NEXT PURCHASE. THANK GOD WITH THE SUPPORT OF A YOU TUBE VIDEO I WAS ABLE TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS TO GET THE CAR STARTED AFTER A FEW HOURS OF TRYING FOR WHO KNOWS HOW MANY MORE TIMES. I DROVE STRAIGHT HOME AND NOW THE CAR SITS THERE NON RUNNING, STEELING WHEEL LOCKED. MY FAMILY WAS MY PRIORITY AND GETTING THEM HOME WAS A NECESSITY. THIS STEERING WHEEL LOCK REALLY PUT US AS PARENTS IN A DANGEROUS AND SCARED SITUATION FOR OURSELVES AND CHILDREN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STRUTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V358000 (SUSPENSION). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,687.
THE STEERINGWHEEL WILL NOT UNLOCK AND CAR WONT START. 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA
ESCL DISABLED MY PUSH BUTTON START. NOW I AM UNABLE TO START LET ALONE DRIVE MY VEHICLE. TO ADD INSULT TO INJURY I WILL HAVE TO HAVE IT TOWED TO THE DEALER (ADDITIONAL COST TO MYSELF) AND THE DEALER IS GOING TO CHARGE CLOSE TO $1200.00 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. APPARENTLY THIS WAS A RECALL BUT EXPIRED IN 2015. WHY WON'T NISSAN BE RESPONSIBLE AND PAY FOR THIS INSTEAD OF THE CONSUMER? THIS WAS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT IN THE PRODUCTION OF THE VEHICLE SEEING HOW IT IS SUCH A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM AGAINST NISSAN VEHICLE OWNERS
TURNED CAR OFF TO GO INTO POST OFFICE. RETURNED AND IT WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING. WENT HAD NEW BATTERY PUT IN KEY PAD. STILL NOTHING. CALLED NISSAN FOR SUGGESTIONS. NONE GIVEN. HAD TO HAVE TOWED TO NISSAN. AFTER THEY CHECKED WAS TOLD STEERING LOCK UNIT HAD INTERNAL FAILURE. NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE AFTER OWNING SEVERAL CARS. A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR AND ONE THAT SHOULDN'T BE OCCURRING ON A 2009 MODEL CAR. I 'M VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS CAR SINCE I HAD HEARD SO MANY GOOD THINGS ABOUT IT. I GAVE UP ON CADILLAC'S TO GET A NISSAN. SURE BELIEVE I MADE A BIG MISTAKE. THERE ARE OTHER LITTLE QUIRKS THAT HAVE BOTHERED ME. I'M ON MY THIRD CAR BATTERY. BOUGHT THE LAST ONE IN APRIL 2014.THE KEY PAD LOCKS HAVE TO BE CHANGED EVERY YEAR. THE ORIGINAL PAINT JOB IS VERY SHALLOW. THE MOST IMPORTANT IS THE REPLACEMENT OF THIS STEERING LOCK UNIT.
WHEN WE PURCHASED THE CAR LAST YEAR,THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD GO UP. IT MADE A GRINDING NOISE. THE DEALERSHIP FIXED IT UNDER WARRANTY FOR NO CHARGE. IT STARTED DOING THE SAME THING IN AUGUST OF 2016. CAR IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY NOW. THERE ARE SO MANY FOLKS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE SAME YEAR AND MODEL CAR. NISSAN SHOULD RECALL THESE CARS AND FIX THE PROBLEM FOR FREE. THE STEERING WHEEL WILL NOT MOVE UP. IT IS STUCK IN THE DOWN POSITION AND MAKES A GRINDING NOISE.
THE PLASTICS ON THE DASH ARE MELTING...
MY 18 OLD SONS CAR JUST HIT 87000 MILES AND THE STEERING LOCK MECHANISM HAS FAILED. NOT ONLY IS THIS A $900 REPAIR BUT IT IS A REOCCURRING PROBLEM WITH NISSAN VEHICLES. MY SON WAS STRANDED IN A PARKING LOT AT 12AM. THIS HAS OCCURRED 3 TIMES WHILE HIS CAR IS OFF. HE IS UNABLE TO START IT. HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED 3 TIMES WITH THE DEALER SAYING IT WAS A BATTERY PROBLEM. HAD THE BATTERY REPLACED. NISSAN ADMITS THERE IS A STEERING LOCK PROBLEM AND THAT THE RECALL PERIOD ENDED IN JAN 3016. MY SON IS 18 AND JUST BOUGHT THE CAR FROM A REPUTABLE MAJOR CAR DEALERSHIP IN TOWN. ANYTIME A DRIVER IS AT RISK IN A PARKING GARAGE OR LOT OR FREEWAY WITH A CAR THAT HAD THIS NOTABLE PROBLEM IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN.
MY STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY LOCKED UP. I WAS UNABLE TO START MY CAR AND HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. IT COST ME ALMOST $1300 TO FIX. I SEE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS. WHY IS THERE NOT A RECALL??
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START AND THE "INDICATOR KEY NOT BEING RECOGNIZED" MESSAGE APPEARED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING LOCK MODULE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.
STEERING WHEEL LOCK PROBLEM-I WAS NOT AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND WAS NOT ABLE TO BENEFIT FROM THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. I WAS STRANDED LATE IN THE EVENING AND WAS NOT ABLE TO GET HOME AND DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE MY CAR. MY CAR WAS PARKED AND WOULD NOT START. THE EXPERIENCE WAS TRAUMATIZING.
THE ESCL MODULE WENT OUT ON MY MAXIMA. FROM WHAT I HAVE BEEN READING IN MANY, MANY MAXIMA FORUMS, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2009 MAXIMAS'. IN FACT, MANY FORUMS DISCOURAGE BUYING THE 2009 AND SUGGEST EARLIER MODELS. CURRENTLY, MY AUTOMOBILE IS DISABLED AT THE MECHANIC'S SHOP WITH A REPAIR FEE OF $1070.
I JUST PURCHASED THE CAR (FROM AN AUDI DEALERSHIP) ABOUT A WEEK AND A HALF AGO (AS IS) AND WAS NOT AWARE OF THE STEERING PROBLEMS I'VE NOW RESEARCHED. THERE WAS THIS WEIRD GROWLING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL, IT WOULD EVENTUALLY STOP BUT IT WAS DISTURBING. MY SISTER AND I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AND LEARN OF THAT IT WAS THE TELESCOPIC STEERING COLUMN AND TWO MOTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP QUOTED ABOUT $900 TO FIX IT. AS A COLLEGE STUDENT WHO JUST SPENT THE MONEY TO PURCHASE THE CAR... I JUST CAN'T AFFORD IT. HOWEVER, I UNDERSTAND JUST HOW SERIOUS AND DANGEROUS THE PROBLEM IS. THE POSSIBILITY OF THE WHEEL LOCKING IS NOT ONLY A SAFETY ISSUE TO ME AND MY PASSENGERS... BUT TO OTHERS ON THE ROAD AS WELL. I'M NOT SURE WHY A RECALL HASN'T BEEN ISSUED BY NISSAN AS THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. IT ALSO SEEMS LIKE A REOCCURRING ISSUE WITH 09 MAXIMA OWNERS ACROSS THE BOARD. NISSAN EVAN ISSUED A MEMO, BUT NOTHING MORE? THIS IS TOO DANGEROUS OF A SITUATION TO IGNORE. THERE ARE LIVES AT RISK.

MY 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA IS NO LONGER STARTING AND THE BRAKE AND STEERING WHEEL HAVE LOCKED. IT DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THAT I HAVE A KEY EVEN THOUGH I DO. ANY ATTEMPT TO START THE VEHICLE RESULTS IN A SPORADIC TICK TICK OR SCREECHING TYPE NOISE FOR LACK OF A BETTER WORD.
MY DASHBOARD IS MELTING TO THE POINT WHERE THERE IS A DANGEROUS GLARE FROM IT ON MY WINDOW WHEN I DRIVE. NOT ONLY IS IT STICKY AND IMPOSSIBLE TO CLEAN BUT THE GLARE MAKES IT HARD TO SEE THE ROAD.
MY CAR WAS PARKED AND WOULDN'T START WHEN I WENT TO CRANK IT. I THOUGHT IT WAS THE BATTERY BUT UPON INSTALLING A NEW INE, THE CAR STILL WOULDN'T START. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD IT'S THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN AND IT WOULD BE $1000 TO REPAIR.
STEERING LOCK MALFUNCTION
ESCL PART IS DEFECTIVE. MAKES CAR COMPLETELY INOPERABLE. MANUFACTURER KNOWS ORIGINAL PART IS DEFECTIVE BUT NO RECALL. EXTENDED WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND NOW PART COST HAS DOUBLED. PART WAS $380 BUT NOW IS $680 WITH A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT PART NUMBER. COST DOUBLED AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED!
I OWN A 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA. IN THE YEAR 2016 THE AIRBAG LIGHT FOR THE PASSENGER SEAT BEGAN TO CONTINUOUSLY BLINK AND THE INDICATOR LIGHT SAID 'AIRBAG OFF' WHETHER THE SEAT WAS OCCUPIED OR NOT. THINKING THE LIGHT NEEDED TO BE RESET AS MY AIRBAGS HAVE NEVER DEPLOYED I TRIED THIS ROUTES. IT ULTIMATELY PROVED NOT TO BE THE PROBLEM AND THE LIGHT CONTINUES TO BLINK. THE CAR WAS DIAGNOSED BY NISSAN AS AM OCS SENSOR FAIL B1018 AND THE COST FOR THE REPAIR WOULD BE $2100. THE WEIGHT SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT FAILED. WITHOUT THE REPAIR THE AIRBAG SYSTEM WILL NOT FUNCTION FOR THE ENTIRE CAR. UPON SPEAKING TO NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS I LEARNED THE THE PART HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED BUT OFFERED NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY. EVEN WITH THE FAILED PART BEING A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN NISSAN REFUSES TO OFFER ANY KIND OF ASSISTANCE TO FIX THE ISSUE. THIS PART IS NOT EXPOSED TO ELEMENTS AS IT IS IN THE ACTUAL SEAT CUSHION. THE PRODUCT JUST FAILED AND NISSAN NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR FAULTY MANUFACTURED PARTS. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN THAT COULD CAUSE SOMEONE THEIR LIFE.
RECALL 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA WHEN DRIVING THIS VEHICLE THE FRONT END OF THE CAR IS NOT STABLE FEEL LIKE THE CAR IS WOBBLING AND THE TIRE IS GOING TO COME OFF. AND I ALWAYS HEAR THIS LOUD CRACKING/POPPING SOUND WHEN BACKING UP AND WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND GO FORWARD, WHILE DRIVING I SOMETIMES CAN HER THIS CRACKING/SQUEAKING SOUND AND ALSO THE TIRE INDICATOR CONSTANTLY STAYS ON. I HAVE TAKE IT TO THE SHOP TO BE CHECKED, AND THEY HAVE CHECK THE AIR PRESSURE IN EACH TIRE ON MY CAR AND ALSO THE SPARE TIRE IN THE TRUNK OF MY CAR SEVERAL TIMES. AND THE TIRE INDICATOR WILL NOT GO OFF. GOD FORBID IF WHEN I GO OVER A SPEED BUMP THE ENTIRE CAR MAKES THIS LOUD SQUEAKING SOUND. WHEN MY VEHICLE ENGINE IS ON PASSAGE AIRBAG INDICATOR KEEP BLANKING AND WILL NOT GO OFF, STAYS ON CONSTANTLY. SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE WITH PASSAGE IN MY CAR BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. BY THE GRACE OF GOD I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT." GOD BLESSED"
SHUT THE CAR OFF WENT IN THE STORE FOR A SHORT TIME CAME BACK OUT TRIED TO START THE CAR AND NOTHING HAPPENED STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED AND WOULD NOT MOVE . HAD IT TOWED TO ONE GARAGE THEY COULDN'T FIX IT SO HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A NISSAN DEALER THEY TOLD THEY HAD FIXED FOUR IN THE PAST COUPLE DAYS AT HARBOR NISSAN SEEMS TO BE A BIG PROBLEM THAT NISSAN SHOULD TAKE CARE !!!! COULD HAVE BEEN STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE NISSAN OWNER'S NEED HELP WITH ISSUE !!! BECAUSE THEY AREN'T HELPING !!
STEERING LOCK BOX REPAIR. EXTENDED WARRANTY WAS ISSUED & NEEDS TO BE EXTENDED INDEFINITELY. THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. CONSUMERS WILL EXPERIENCE THIS INCONVENIENCE AT DIFFERENT LIFECYCLES OF THE VEHICLE & SHOULD BE GIVEN THE SAME REIMBURSEMENTS/COURTESY AS OTHER 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA OR ALTIMA OWNERS.
ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK. 41.4 K MILES ON CAR. PARKED CAR, WENT TO START, KEY LIGHT WENT ON AND THE CAR WAS IMMOBILIZED. TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, FILED A REPORT WITH NISSAN. WARRANTY EXTENSION SPECIFIC TO THIS ISSUE NO LONGER AVAILABLE BY 6 MONTHS. $1,071 REPAIR DENIED BY NISSAN BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. COULD HAVE BEEN MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE IF I WAS STUCK IN A REMOTE LOCATION.
THE STEERING CONTROL MODULE HAS FAILED, AND WILL NOT ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO START. SEEMS TO BE VERY COMMON ISSUE, AND THE SAME PART AND PART NUMBER HAS BEEN RECALLED ON THERE OTHER MODEL CARS, BUT NOT WITH THIS VEHICLE, WHEN THIS PART FAIL IT WILL LEAVE YOU STRANDED AND NOT BE ABLE TO START THE CAR WITH THE STEERING WHEEL POSSIBLY LOCKED IN PLACE.
STRANDED TWICE CAR WILL NOT START BECAUSE OF STEERING LOCK MODULE NOT RELEASING ALLOWING THE CAR TO START.
THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK UNIT FAILED MAKING THE CAR NOT START LEAVING MY WIFE STRANDED AT A CONVENIENCE STORE ON A COLD NIGHT. NISSAN KNOWS THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM BUT IS STILL LETTING ITS CUSTOMERS FOOT THE $1000 BILL FOR THEIR POOR DESIGN. IT IS A SAFETY PROBLEM WHEN IT LEAVES MY WIFE STRANDED!
I PURCHASED MY 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA FROM THE DEALER, BRAND NEW IN JUNE 2009. THE CAR IS NOW 7 YEARS OLD AND HAS 105,000 MILES ON IT. MY POWERTRAIN WARRANTY IS EXPIRED (AS IT ENDED AT 100,000 MILES). WITHIN THE LAST 3 MONTHS THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON CONSTANTLY EVEN WHEN NOBODY IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. ALSO, THE FLASHING AIR BAG LIGHT ON MY DASHBOARD CONTINUES TO BLINK. SEARCHING THE WEB I FOUND HOW TO DIAGNOSE THE ERROR WHICH POINTED ME TO THE OCCUPANT SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT HAD FAILED AND THAT THE AIRBAG SRS SYSTEM WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND EXPLAINED TO THEM WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND THAT I FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING THE CAR WITH AN INOPERATIVE SRS SYSTEM. THE DEALER CONFIRMED IT'S THE OCCUPANT SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THAT HAS FAILED. SINCE THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, IT WILL COST ME $1,900 OUT OF POCKET. I CONTACTED NISSAN'S CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT NISSAN RECORDED MY COMPLAINT AND OPENED A CASE # FOR ANY FUTURE RECALL CAMPAIGNS. NISSAN DENIED THE CLAIM AND WILL NOT COVER ANY PORTION OF THE REPAIR COSTS. I WANT TO ALERT THE NHTSA THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM NOT ONLY ON NEWER NISSANS, BUT ALSO ON THE OLDER NISSANS, INCLUDING MY 2009 MAXIMA. MY HOPE IS THAT THIS YEAR AND MODEL WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR AN EXPANDED RECALL TO THE CURRENT RECALL. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND ONE THAT NISSAN SHOULD AGREE TO TAKE CARE OF FOR ALL CARS THAT SHOW THIS PROBLEM.

KEY LOCKS/UNLOCKS/OPEN TRUNK/ALARM WORKS BUT WILL NOT START ENGINE. "KEY WARNING LIGHT" COMES ON. TRIED BOTH KEYS BUT NOTHING. DISCONNECTED/RECONNECTED BATTERY WITHOUT SUCCESS. STEERING WHEEL IS UNLOCKED. INSERT FOB TO TRY & START MANUALLY BUT NOTHING. MY NEIGHBOR IS A LOCAL MECHANIC & CAME OVER TO HELP. STUMPED HIM SO I GUESS I WILL BE CALLING TO GET A TOW TO DEALERSHIP IN THE MORNING AFTER UNLOADING FOOD BANK DONATIONS! AFTER READING SEVERAL HUNDRED COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE IN JUST A MATTER OF FEW MINUTES, I AM SURE THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF THOUSAND NISSAN UNSATISFIED CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE HAD TO DEAL WITH THIS. I WAS STRANDED AND NISSAN NORTH AMERICA REFUSED TO COVER THIS EVEN THOUGH THEY NEW THIS FLAW WOULD HAPPEN AT 72000 MILES MY CAR HAD 76000.MY CAR WAS PARKED IN MY WORK PARKING LOT. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED THAT MY 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA HAS A MALFUNCTION CALLED STEERING WHEEL LOCK FAILURE. MY CAR WAS ON A CITY STREET WHEN IT WOULD NOT START, IT WOULD NOT RECOGNIZE MY KEYS FOB, AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO START THE CAR WITH THE PUSH TO START BUTTON. NOTHING HAPPENED. NOTHING ON THE DASHBOARD WOULD SHOW. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THIS MALFUNCTION IS COSTING ME A LOT OF MONEY. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND THIS MALFUNCTION IS SOMETHING THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE A RECALL. IF THIS WAS A RECALL, THEN I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE GOT THIS FIXED A LOT SOONER BEFORE IT HAPPENED TO ME.

AFTER A LITTLE RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE 09. THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS AND NISSAN SHOULD HAVE OWNED UP AND FIXED THIS PROBLEM ALONG TIME AGO. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL AND NOT JUST A BULLETIN. THERE IS A PROBLEM AND NISSA NEEDS TO FIX THERE WRONG, INSTEAD SELLING CARS KNOWING THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED AND NISSAN NEEDS TO DO THE REPAIRS IMMEDIATELY WITH NO CHARGE TO THEIR CUSTOMERS.
THE STEERING LOCK CONTROL ON THE VEHICLE FAILED CAUSING THE CAR TO BECOME DISABLED. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN AND WAS LOCKED IN PLACE, ADDITIONALLY THE VEHICLE WAS STALLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. FORTUNATELY THE INCIDENT OCCURRED IN A PARKING LOT HAD THE STEERING LOCK CONTROL FAILED WHILE DRIVING A SIGNIFICANT ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE LIKELY OCCURRED AS THE DRIVER WOULD HAVE LOST STEERING CONTROL. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE NISSAN SERVICE SHOP FOR A REPAIR COSTING NEARLY $1000. THIS WAS A KNOWN SAFETY ISSUE FOR NISSAN AS THEY EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR THIS PART HOWEVER MY VEHICLE'S CONTROL UNIT FAILED AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. AFTER ONLINE RESEARCH I DISCOVERED MANY OTHER NISSAN OWNERS HAVE SUFFERED THE SAME SAFETY FAILURE ON THEIR VEHICLES. IT IS AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURER SAFETY DEFECT THAT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED.

THEY TOLD ME THAT THAT WITH PARTS AND LABOR IT WOULD BE $1,500. I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND FOUND PAGES AND PAGES OF ONLINE FORUMS WITH PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS ISSUE. I CALLED 1-800-NISSAN THEY REVIEWED THE CASE AND OFFERED ME NOTHING IN RETURN. NISSAN KNOWS THIS IS AN ISSUE; IT SHOULD BE A RECALL; HOWEVER, THEY ARE DOING NOTHING TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. NISSAN PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM.

WAS GIVEN A QUOTE OF $900 NOT INCLUDING TOWING. CONTACTED CONSUMER AFFAIRS UPON SEEING THAT THIS WAS A COMMON ISSUE TO INSURE I WASN'T COVERED BY ANY WARRANTY ETC. NO WAS THE ANSWER TO THAT. I FIND IT DISTURBING THAT NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND IS OK WITH LEAVING CONSUMERS STRANDED IN POSSIBLY UNDESIRABLE OR UNSAFE SITUATIONS. I AM A 2ND TIME NISSAN OWNER BUT AFTER HOW THIS IS BEING HANDLED THIS WILL BE MY LAST NISSAN VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO NISSAN FOR DIAGNOSTIC BECAUSE A CASE COULD BE OPENED BY CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO POSSIBLE ASSIST WITH THE PAYMENT BUT THEY ONLY ASSIST MORE RELIABLE CUSTOMERS, WHICH THEY DIDN'T FEEL I WAS SINCE I HADN'T BEEN GOING TO NISSAN FOR MY SERVICES. WHEN I CONTACTED NISSAN USA (CASE # 2716855) THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD OFFER TO PAY FOR HALF OF THE REPAIR WHICH WOULD STILL BE $1000 OUT OF POCKET. MY QUESTION IS; ARE THEY WAITING FOR A FATAL ACCIDENT TO HAPPEN BEFORE THEY OFFER A CAMPAIGN FOR RECALL? YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

THEY COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM SO I HAD TO GET IT TOWED THE CAR LOT WHERE I BOUGJT IT FROM AND IT COST ME $125. I'VE SINCE DID RESEARCH AND IT SEEMS THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND PAYING OVER $1, 000 OUT OF POCKET.NOW IAM WAITING FOR MY LEINHOLDER TO TELL ME I OWE THEM $1, 000. UPON SUCCESSFULLY UNLOCKING THE CAR, THE PUSH IGNITION FAILED TO RESPOND AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THE KEYFOB WAS ABLE TO LOCK AND UNLOCK THE CAR, EVEN SET OFF THE PANIC ALARM BUT PRESSING THE IGNITION BUTTON WOULD NOT MOVE THE CAR OUT OF "LOCK" POSITION. THE CAR HAD BEEN PARKED FOR ABOUT 1.5 HRS BEFORE HAVING BEEN DRIVEN SEVERAL MILES. UPON DIAGNOSIS BY A LICENSED MECHANIC, THE ELECTRONIC STEERING LOCK MODULE WAS FOUND TO HAVE FAILED. ON FURTHER ONLINE RESEARCH, IT WAS LEARNED THAT THIS PART IS SUSCEPTIBLE TO FAILURE AND IT IS COMMON TO FIND MANY 2009 NISSAN OWNERS OF SEVERAL MODELS (ALTIMA, MAXIMA, 370Z) TO HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM, WITHIN AND OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY.
