BOUGHT A 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA ON 4/21/2011, IT HAD 25206 MILES ON IT, I CURRENTLY HAVE 37000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE HAD TO ADD AIR TO MY TIRES AT LEAST ONCE A WEEK, ON CHRISTMAS DAY I CAME OUT TO A FLAT TIRE, REMOVED WHEEL AND NOTICED THE INSIDE WALL HAD SEVERAL "SPIDER WEB" CRACKS ON IT, ONE WAS BAD ENOUGH TO LEAK AIR. I WOULD LIKE TO NOW IF ANYONE ELSE HAS REPORTED THIS PROBLEM? *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER REFUELING, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE STEERING LOCK UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED BECAUSE THE NECESSARY PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE PARTS WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE IN A FEW WEEKS. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 40,000.
I AM A SOLDIER STATIONED IN GERMANY WHO ENCOUNTERED A TIRE BLOW OUT ON 6 DECEMBER 2011. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO BE DRIVING ON THE MILITARY BASE AND SOMEONE CAUGHT MY ATTENTION TO NOTIFY ME. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE AUTO SHOP ON THE BASE AND TOLD THEY COULD NOT ORDER THE TIRE THROUGH ANY OF THEIR VENDORS AND I HAD TO GO THROUGH THE LOCAL ECONOMY. HOWEVER, BEFORE I LEFT THEY INSPECTED THE TIRE TO IDENTIFY WHAT CAUSED THE FLAT AND STATED IT WAS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE TIRE SEPERATED FROM THE SEAMS. IT WAS VERY DISTURBING THIS HAPPENDED, BECAUSE I USUALLY HAVE MY 10 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN THE VEHICLE. ALSO I AM USUALLY DRIVING IN THE WEE HOURS OF THE MORNING OR AT NIGHT. IN ADDITION THE TIRE WILL COST $300 TO PAY FOR. I PAID ADDITIONAL MONEY FOR A TIRE WARRANTY, WHICH DOES NOT COVER MANUFACTURER DEFECTS. *TR
DASHBOARD IS MELTING. IT IS STICKY AND HAS A GLUE LIKE RESIDUE ON THE SURFACE. IT CAUSES A SEVERE GLARE WHEN DRIVING TOWARDS THE SUN. THIS CREATES AN UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITION. ADDITIONALLY, THE CONSOLE TRIM IS DISINTEGRATING. *TR
THE STEERING WHEEL TILT AND TELESCOPE MOTOR STOP WORKING. I TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP TO HAVE REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY. ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT I WAS ONE MONTH OUT OF FACTORY WARRANTY 3 YEARS OR 36,000 MILES. THE SERVICE ADVISOR SHOWED ME THAT IT WAS A BULLETIN DATED IN 2009, AT THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT SHOWING THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE TILT AND TELESCOPE MOTOR. I'M OUT OF WARRANTY SO I HAVE TO PAY OUT ALMOST 1,500 DOLLARS TO GET IT REPAIRED. ITS NOT FAIR TO CONSUMERS WHEN PAYING ALMOST 40,000 DOLLARS FOR A VEHICLE THAT HAS ISSUES. IT'S NOT FAIR WHEN THE DEALERSHIPS ARE AWARE OF PROBLEMS AND NOT INFORMING THE OWNERS UNTIL IT'S DISCOVERED AFTER THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE OR AT LEAST NOTIFIED THE OWNER TO HAVE DONE AT THEIR LEISURE. *TR
TILT STEERING WHEEL LOCKED IN THE EXTREME UP POSITION WHEN DRIVERS DOOR WAS OPENED AT APPROX 2 YEARS/52,000 MILES. TILT STEERING WHEEL COULD NOT BE LOWERED UNTIL DISASSEMBLED BY THE DEALER. DRIVER VISIBILITY WAS SERIOUSLY OBSTRUCTED, ESPECIALLY FOR SHORTER DRIVERS. POTENTIAL AIR BAG EFFECTIVENESS WAS ALSO SERIOUSLY DEGRADED. NISSAN IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT MOTORS (TILT OR TELESCOPE) IN SERVICE BULLETIN NTB09094. HOWEVER, NISSAN HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL AND REFUSED TO REIMBURSE THIS FIRST-TIME NISSAN OWNER FOR THIS SAFETY DEFECT. THERE IS NO CERTAINTY OF WHETHER REPLACEMENT NISSAN STEERING COLUMN ADJUSTMENT MOTORS DO NOT HAVE THE SAME UNDERLYING DESIGN DEFECT AND WILL NOT FAIL SHORTLY AFTER INSTALLATION. THE TELESCOPE ADJUSTMENT MOTOR FAILED AT APPROX 1 YEAR/38,000 MILES. TOTAL REPLACEMENT COST FOR PARTS AND LABOR FOR BOTH ADJUSTMENT MOTORS WAS APPROXIMATELY $400+. I REQUEST NISSAN AND NHTSA ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT. *TR
PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT RANDOMLY GOES ON AND OFF, WHETHER OR NOT THERE IS SOMEONE OR SOMETHING IN THE SEAT. AFTER THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, I WAS TOLD THAT "IT WAS JUST MY PURSE"; I INSISTED THAT IT WAS NOT AND FOR IT TO BE CHECKED. THE LOWER SEAT CUSHION ASSEMBLY WITH PRESSURE BLADDER WAS REPLACED AND COVERED BY WARRANTY IN 2011. I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS UNTIL RECENTLY, IT STARTED DOING THE SAME THING AND IT HAS BEEN TESTED BY NISSAN SERVICE TECHNICIANS TWICE AND I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THIS CONCERNS ME, AS SAFETY FEATURES SHOULD NOT BE QUESTIONABLE IF THEY MAY FUNCTION PROPERLY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE LOCKED THE VEHICLE AND ACTIVATED THE ALARM BUT THE TRUNK DID NOT LOCK. THE VEHICLE WAS BURGLARIZED BECAUSE THE TRUNK WAS NOT LOCKED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT HE HAD TO STAND AT A CERTAIN DISTANCE FROM THE VEHICLE FOR THE TRUNK TO LOCK. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 36,229.
MY WIFE IS A HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER. SHE HAS AN ASSIGNED SPOT WHICH IS RIGHT UP TO THE CURB NEAR AN ENTRANCE TO THE SCHOOL, APPROXIMATELY 150 FEET BETWEEN CURB AND BUILDING. AS SHE ENTERED HER SPOT AND PREPARED TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, WITH HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE, THE ENGINE MADE A LOUD NOISE, SHE SAW AN EXCLAMATION POINT FLASH TWICE ON THE DASHBOARD, AND WITH HER FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR RACED UNCONTROLLABLY FORWARD JUMPING THE CURB AND DID NOT STOP UNTIL SHE PUSHED THE STOP/START BUTTON ON THE DASHBOARD OF THE KEYLESS SYSTEM. AS THERE WERE MANY STUDENTS AND SEVERAL TEACHERS IN THE VICINITY, IT IS EXTREMELY FORTUNATE THAT THE CAR STOPPED FOR MY WIFE AND EVERY ONE ELSE IN THE AREA.
I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TIME AND TIME AGAIN TO FAIRFAX NISSAN FOR REPAIRS AND THEY HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND A PERMANENT SOLUTION TO FIX THE PROBLEMS. 12/23/2010 - PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT IS STAYING ON WHEN AN ADULT PASSENGER IS IN THE SEAT - RESET SYSTEM. 07/30/2011 - PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT IS STAYING ON .......10/20/2011 PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT STAYING ON WHEN AN ADULT PASSENGER IS IN THE SEAT- FOUND INTERNAL DEFECT WITH OCCUPANT SENSOR IN SEAT AND REPLACED. 05/01/2012- ETC 01/15/13 - PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT IS STAYING ON WHEN AN ADULT PASSENGER IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. VIDEOED THIS OCCURRING SEVERAL TIMES. ALSO COMPLAINED ABOUT EXHAUST SMELL IN CABIN AND WAS TOLD TO CHANGE CABIN FILTER. UNABLE USE OUTSIDE AIR FOR AC OR EXHAUST SMELL ENTERS THE CAR AND CREATES EXTREME HEADACHES. ONLY CAN USE RECIRCULATED AIR. THESE CONTINUED TRIPS WITHOUT RESOLUTION HAVE PUT A STRAIN ON MY EMPLOYMENT (WORK IN THE HEALTHCARE INDUSTRY). I JUST WANT THESE ISSUES RESOLVED SO THAT NO INJURY TO MY FAMILY OCCURS FROM THIS. *TR
THE COLLAR WILL MOVE UP AND DOWN SLOW ... REPORT THE MOTOR IS BAD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD EXHIBIT AN UNUSUAL POP COMING FROM THE FRONT-END OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER YET THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO LOCATE A RECALL FOR THE FAILURE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V358000- SUSPENSION) BUT WAS ADVISED BY THE DEALER THAT HIS VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000.
INABILITY TO CLEARLY SEE ROAD IN CERTAIN SUNNY CONDITIONS FROM A MELTING DASHBOARD WHICH CAUSES GLARE IN MIDDLE OF WINDSHIELD.
2009 NISSAN MAXIMA - DRIVER SEAT MOVES FORWARD UPON ACCELERATION AND MOVES BACKWARD UPON SLOWING DOWN OR STOPPING. THE DRIVER IS MOVED FORWARD OR BACK WHENEVER THE SEAT MOVES. THE DRIVER SEAT IS NOT STABLE UPON ACCELERATION OR STOPPING. NOTIFIED NISSAN DEALERSHIP- PER NISSAN, NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE REPAIR IS LEFT TO THE CONSUMER. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. NISSAN HAS THIS ISSUE WITH OTHER VEHICLE MODELS. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA ON NOVEMBER 12TH 2009, UNKNOWINGLY THAT NISSAN ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE FRONT SUSPENSION (RECALL SUMMARY NISSAN IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009 AND 2010 ALTIMA AND MAXIMA PASSENGER CARS. THE UPPER FRONT STRUT INSULATORS MAY HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED OUT OF SPECIFICATION RESULTING IN A POTENTIAL FOR THE STRUT INSULATOR TO CRACK) I HEARD NOISES FROM THE FRONT AREA OF THE CAR AND TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP, WHERE THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM, I TOOK THE CAR BACK AND THE NOISE GOT WORSE, I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THEY RECALLED THE VEHICLE FOR A SOUND DAMPENER, AND WAS REPLACED. I TOOK MY FAMILY ON A 2 HOUR ROAD TRIP WHEN MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO MAKE SERIOUS NOISES, THE CAR BEGAN TO JERK AND SHAKE. I LOOKED ONLINE AND NOTICED A RECALL THAT WAS NEVER BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION, THE RECALL STATES THAT "IF THE STRUT INSULATOR IS CRACKED, THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR THE STRUT ROD TO COME OUT OF ITS MOUNTING POSITION, WHICH COULD AFFECT VEHICLE STABILITY AND INCREASE THE RISK OF A CRASH", I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND SPOKE WITH THE SALES MANAGER AND WAS TOLD THAT "IF I FELT THAT THE CAR IS UNSAFE THEN DON'T DRIVE IT!". I AM PAYING FOR A CAR THAT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND WAS SOLD THIS CAR AFTER THE RECALL AND STILL HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. I BELIEVE THAT MY FAMILY AND I HAVE BEEN SEVERELY BEEN PUT IN HARMS WAY AND HAVE BEEN LIED TO ABOUT A RECALL! I FEEL THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAD THE DUTY TO REPAIR A CRUCIAL SAFETY ISSUE ON A VEHICLE THAT WAS PRESENT ON THEIR LOT. I HAVE MADE THREE ATTEMPTS TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AND NOW FEAR FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. *TR
WHEELS BEND EASILY AND CAUSES VEHICLE TO VIBRATE. *TR
APPROACHING A PARKING LOT GATE SLOWLY WITH MY FOOT GENTLY ON THE BRAKE. ENGINE SUDDENLY SURGED TO FULL POWER. I'M A 250 LB. MALE AND APPLIED BRAKES WITH BOTH FEET AND COULDN'T STOP VEHICLE. HIT THE GATE ARM CAUSING LITTLE DAMAGE (INCONSEQUENTIAL). FINALLY STOPPED AND ENGINE RETURNED TO IDLE WHEN I MANAGED TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL.
THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED 2009 NEW. APPROX 1 YEAR LATER THE DRIVERS SEAT BEGAN TO ROCK. NISSAN REPLACED THE DRIVERS TRACK WHICH THEY SAID WAS DEFECTIVE. A FEW MONTHS LATER IT BEGAN TO ROCK AGAIN AND WAS REPORTED TO NISSAN, THEY STATED THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. THE SEAT CONTINUED TO ROCK AND INCREASINGLY GOT WORSE. JANUARY 2014 THE VEHICLE IS RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT IS DANGEROUSLY ROCKING BACK AND FOURTH WHEN YOU ACCELERATE OR BRAKE. THE SERVICE MANAGER STATES HE IS WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. NISSAN REFUSES TO MAKE REPAIRS BECAUSE ITS OUT OF WARRANTY. FURTHER INVESTIGATION FINDS THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES OUT THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I ATTEMPT TO GO THREW NISSAN TO OWN UP TO THEIR PROBLEM. I GET UP TO THE VP OF CUSTOMER SERVICE AND RECEIVE A PHONE CALL STATING THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO BUT KEEP MY RECEIPT IN CASE THERE IS A RECALL AND I MAY GET MY MONEY BACK IF THERE'S A RECALL. *TR
THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON WHILE A 160LB ADULT IS SITTING IN PASSENGER SEAT. THIS LIGHT INDICATES THAT THE AIR BAG WILL NOT OUT IN AN ACCIDENT. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE NISSAN DEALER WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND THEY SAID THE LIGHT DIDN'T COME ON WITH THEM. WHEN I GOT BACK HOME IT CAME ON AFTER ABOUT FOUR DAYS AND I HAVE IT ON VIDEO WHILE I'M SITTING IN PASSENGER SEAT AND THE LIGHT IS ON. IT STILL DOES THE SAME THING NOW. ALSO, THE CAR FELLS LIKE ITS SHAKING LIKE SLIDING AS IF YOU WERE HYDRO PLANNING WHILE DRIVING. THE LIGHT I THINK VDS COMES ON A GOES OFF FROM TIME TO TIME. *TR
IT HAS BEEN TWO MONTHS SINCE MY NISSAN MAXIMA 2009 HAD A PROBLEM WITH FAILED BRAKES. THERE HAS BEEN NO RESPONSE FROM NISSAN USA CORP. EXCEPT TO SAY THAT THEIR ENGINEER HAS INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. BOTH MYSELF AND THE SERVICE MANAGER AT MY NISSAN CAR DEALERSHIP HERE IN SAGINAW TRIED MULTIPLE TIMES TO TALK TO THE PEOPLE AT NISSAN BUT WE ARE LEFT WITH NO ANSWERS. I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE BRAKES AND I AM AFRAID TO TAKE IT OUT ON THE ROAD. I HAVE HAD A RENTAL CAR FOR THE LAST TWO MONTHS WITH ONLY A VERBAL REASSURANCE THAT THE NISSAN CORPORATION WOULD PAY FOR IT. I AM WONDERING WHETHER YOU CAN LOOK INTO THIS MATTER AND WHETHER NISSAN ALSO HAS PROBLEMS WITH THEIR BRAKES LIKE THE TOYOTA. THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION. *TR
THE BRAKES ON MY NISSAN MAXIMA FAILED AND I WAS ALMOST HIT BY CARS AS I SLID INTO A MAJOR INTERSECTION WHILE BRAKING FOR A RED LIGHT. I WAS ONLY DRIVING AT 5MPH BECAUSE I SAW THE LIGHT FROM ABOUT FIVE CAR LENGTHS AWAY AND I BRAKED AT 2 CAR LENGTHS AWAY FROM THE LIGHT. I BRAKED AGAIN TWICE BUT THE BRAKES CONTINUED TO FAIL AS I SLID INTO THE INTERSECTION. LUCKILY FOR ME, THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC WAS ABLE TO STOP IN TIME FOR ME TO MOVE THE CAR TO A SAFE POSITION. THE BRAKES THEN HELD AGAIN UNTIL I DROVE TO THE DEALER.THE BRAKE PROBLEM OCCURRED TWICE BEFORE THOUGH I DID NOT RECOGNIZE IT AS SUCH , ONCE ON THE SAME DAY AND ONCE WITHIN THE SAME WEEK. IT WAS INTERMITTENT. IT OCCURRED AT SPEEDS LESS THAN 20MPH AND WITHIN 10 MINUTES OF STARTING THE CAR AND DRIVING. THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE WAS 20 TO 25 DEGREES F AND THE ROADS WERE CLEAN. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHO SAID THAT NISSAN ENGINEERS HAVE TO EVALUATE THE CAR. ITS BEEN MORE THAN THREE WEEKS, NEITHER THE DEALER NOR I HAVE HEARD FROM NISSAN AS TO WHAT THEY ARE DOING ABOUT IT. I EVEN REPORTED THE INCIDENTS TO THE ONLINE NISSAN CONSUMERS.THEY ACKNOWLEDGED RECEIVING THE COMPLAINT AND THAT'S ALL. I AM STILL DRIVING THE RENTAL CAR ARRANGED BY THE DEALER. *TR
DRIVER'S SEAT IS NOT SECURELY ANCHORED TO FLOOR - IT ROCKS SLIGHTLY AS I OPERATE THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER HAS ATTEMPTED ON 4 OCCASIONS TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM, AND HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO. I DO NOT BELIEVE THE SEAT IS SUFFICIENTLY SECURE TO PROTECT ME IN A SERIOUS COLLISION. *TR
IN NOV. 2009, APPROX 3 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING NEW CAR, IT STARTED INTERMITTENTLY HAVING HEAVIER VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL. SINCE THEN, THERE IS A CONSTANT MINOR PULSING/VIBRATION, WITH INTERMITTENT VIBRATION THAT HAS MORE INTENSITY. WHEN I HAVE MORE INSTANCES OF THE "HEAVIER" VIBRATION DURING MY COMMUTE IT CAUSES MY HANDS TO TINGLE. I HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER 4 TIMES WITH THIS COMPLAINT - THE LAST TIME WITH A REGIONAL REP PRESENT. TO DATE, THE DEALER AND NISSAN CORPORATE CONSUMER ASSISTANCE HAS NOT IDENTIFIED ANY SOLUTION NOR ANY OTHER COMPENSATION. I FEEL THERE IS A DEFECT OR DESIGN FLAW THAT IS PRODUCING THE VIBRATION, WHICH I CAN ONLY ASSUME WILL GET WORSE OVER TIME. I AM AFRAID IT WILL EVENTUALLY PUT MY HANDS TO SLEEP ON A LONGER TRIP. *TR
PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON SAYING IT WOULD NOT WORK. WIFE OF 140 POUNDS WAS SITTING IN SEAT. IT WAS TURNED ON ALL THE TIME. SHE GOT IN AND OUT A FEW TIMES, THE LIGHT STILL CAME ON. THE NEXT DAY IT WENT OFF AND HAS STAYED OFF SINCE. TOOK CAR TO NISSAN DEALER THEY CHECKED IT,SAID THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME TO BRING CAR BACK IF IT OCCURRED AGAIN. *TR
I PURCHASED THE 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA FROM THE DEALER, BRAND NEW, IN NOVEMBER, 2008. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, I NOTICED THAT AS I SAT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE AIRBAG LIGHT WOULD COME ON INDICATING THAT THE AIRBAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT. I AM 5'4" AND 140 POUNDS AND NOT A CHILD OR EVEN A SMALLER ADULT. THROUGHOUT THE PAST 5 YEARS, THE SAME PROBLEM WOULD HAPPEN WHEN SOMEONE SAT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE LIGHT WILL COME ON UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE I SAT THERE AND MY HUSBAND DROVE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER ON 2 OCCASIONS (FIRST TIME IN 2009 AND AGAIN IN 2010) AND EXPLAINED TO THEM WHAT WAS HAPPENING AND THAT I FELT UNSAFE SITTING IN THAT SEAT SHOULD WE HAVE AN ACCIDENT. THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND UNLESS THE COMPUTER SPITS OUT AN ERROR CODE, THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO (EVEN THOUGH IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY). NOW THE CAR IS OVER 5 YEARS OLD AND HAS 85,000 MILES ON IT. MY POWERTRAIN WARRANTY IS EXPIRED (AS IT ENDED AT 60,000 MILES). IT IS NOW THAT THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON CONSTANTLY, EVEN WHEN NOBODY IS SITTING IN THE SEAT. ALSO, THE FLASHING AIR BAG LIGHT ON MY DASHBOARD STAYS ON. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY SAID IT'S THE SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THAT HAS FAILED. IT GAVE AN ERROR COD B1018. SINCE IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, IT WILL COST ME $1,900 OUT OF POCKET. I CONTACTED NISSAN'S CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT AND ASKED THEM TO COVER IT?THEY DENIED THE CLAIM AND WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIR. I WANT TO ALERT THE NHTSA THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM NOT ONLY ON NEWER NISSANS, BUT ALSO ON THE OLDER NISSANS, INCLUDING THE 2009 MAXIMA. MY HOPE IS THAT THIS YEAR AND MODEL WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR AN EXPANDED RECALL TO THE CURRENT RECALL. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND ONE THAT NISSAN SHOULD AGREE TO TAKE CARE OF FOR ALL CARS THAT SHOW THIS PROBLEM. *TR
WE OWN A 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA THAT WAS PURCHASED NEW ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2009. WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH MY WIFE IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM TURNS OF THE AIRBAG. MY WIFE IS 5'5" AND 125LBS, WELL WITHIN NORMAL ADULT SIZE. UPON DISCOVERING THE PROBLEM WE HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIPS MECHANIC 4 TIMES OVER THE LAST 11 MONTHS WITH EVERY TIME OTHER THAN THE INITIAL VISIT LASTING ALMOST A WEEK EACH TIME. THE LAST TIME WE TOOK IT IN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP MANAGER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD NO RECORD OF OUR VEHICLE BEING IN THERE SHOP EVER. UPON THE COMPLETION OF THE FINAL TRIP TO THE SHOP WE DISCUSSED THE ISSUES AT LENGTH WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER OF THE DEALERSHIP AND WE REPLICATED THE ISSUE IN BOTH THE 2010 AND 2011 MODEL MAXIMA'S. WE HAVE SINCE CALLED NISSAN LOOKING TO HAVE OUR CAR PURCHASED BACK OR HAVE THE PROBLEM REPAIRED SO THAT THE AIRBAG WILL WORK WITH HER IN THE CAR. AT THAT TIME WE WERE TOLD THAT NISSAN'S AIRBAG SYSTEM WAS DESIGNED TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT ALL FACTORS AND MAKE A DECISION AT THAT TIME. AS OF AUGUST 20TH 2010 WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH OUR CAR AND THAT THE AIRBAG IS FUNCTIONING NORMALLY. LET IT BE NOTED THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL INSTANCES OF THIS PROBLEM DOCUMENTED ACROSS THE WEB. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING IN THE NUMBER (2) LANE OF THE US 405 N FREEWAY AT SPEEDS OF OVER 65 MPH, I NOTICED THAT THE BATTERY LIGHT STARTED FLICKERING, AND WITHIN 10 SECONDS THE ACCELERATOR CEASED TO RESPOND WHEN PRESSURE WAS APPLIED. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS PUSHED, THE ENGINE WOULD REV, AND THE RPM GAUGE WOULD SHOW THE GAUGE MOVING UP, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESPOND. I PUSHED THE ACCELERATOR ALL THE WAY INWARDS, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESPOND. APPROXIMATELY 15-20 SECONDS LATER, I NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE CEASED OPERATING, AND THE WHEEL LOCKED. I WAS ALSO UNABLE TO APPLY THE BRAKES, AS WHEN I PUSHED THE BRAKES NOTHING HAPPENED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT VERY STIFF AND NON-RESPONSIVE. AT THE SAME TIME, LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD CLUSTER WERE ILLUMINATED. I STARTED PANICKING AS I HAD NO CONTROL OF A VEHICLE TRAVELING OVER 60 MPH ON A FREEWAY DURING EVENING HOURS LOS ANGELES TRAFFIC. I IMMEDIATELY ACTIVATED MY EMERGENCY INDICATORS, AND WAITED IN COMPLETE PANIC UNTIL THE VEHICLE CAME TO A ROLLING STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. DURING THE SAME EVENING, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO EXHIBIT THE SAME MALFUNCTIONS AS EXPERIENCED EARLIER THAT DAY AND THE VEHICLE DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. DIAGNOSIS: CLIENT STATES VEHICLE WON'T START. BRAKE AND BATTERY LIGHTS ARE ON AFTER CHARGING THE BATTERY PERFORMED BATTERY TEST WITH THE BATTERY TESTER CENTER MIDTRONICS NISSAN MCR620. GR8 BATTERY TESTER WAS UNABLE AT THIS TIME. TEST RESULTS GOOD BATTERY AND CHARGING SYSTEM INCIDENT. UPON INSPECTION TERMINAL 1 CONNECTOR F6 FOUND TERMINAL MELTING WHERE CONNECT TO ALTERNATOR AND ALSO PART OF THE HARNESS AND ALTERNATOR BURNT DUE TO TERMINAL NUT LOOSE AND HAS MUCH PLAY. CALL NISSAN TECH LINE, AND REPORT THE INCIDENT AND ALSO FOR HELP. *TR THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKE, THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE. THE BATTERY LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE AT TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK AND WOULD START TO FLICKER AND FLASH. UPDATED 05/05/10.*JB
WHEN I AM DRIVING THE CAR, WITH A PASSENGER IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, AIR BAG NOT ON SIGN WILL ILLUMINATE. THIS HAPPENS ON A DAILY BASIS. I NEVER TOOK IT IN AND IT STILL HAPPENS NOW. IT BECAME OBLIVIOUS TO ME BECAUSE I DIDN'T MAKE TIME TO HAVE THE PROBLEM CORRECTED, SEAT BELTS ARE FASTENED AND THE LIGHT STILL COMES ON. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN THE RADIO COMPLETELY DIES AND IN A HURRICANE SITUATIONS WE RELY ON THE RADIO FOR WEATHER AND HIGHWAY CONDITION UPDATES. THIS IS A CURRENT PROBLEM.
DRIVERS SEAT BASE OR TRACK IS LOOSE AND SEAT ROCKS UPON ACCELERATION AND BRAKING, HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE AND TAKEN BACK TO TWO DEALERSHIPS WITH BOTH DECLINING TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE MOVEMENT. *TR
2009 NISSAN MAXIMA PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG ISSUES. EVERYTIME I SIT IN THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT THE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON SAYING THAT IS NOT ON. I WEIGH 145LBS AND HAVE NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM IN ANY OF OUR OTHER CARS. HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY REPLACED THE SEAT ONCE, IT IS STILL DOING THE SAME THING. IF I CAN'T SIT IN THE PASSENGER SIDE OF MY CAR THAT I'M PAYING $500 A MONTH TO DRIVE, THEN THEY NEED TO TAKE IT BACK. *TR
MY DASHBOARD IS MELTING. IT HAS BEEN LIKE THIS FOR A VERY LONG TIME AND NOTHING WILL FIX IT, AS IT IS SIMPLY A PROBLEM WITH THE WAY IT WAS MADE. I HAVE LOOKED IT UP AND I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. MANY OTHER PEOPLE WITH A NISSAN MAXIMA OR A NISSAN ALTIMA HAVE MELTING DASHBOARDS. TEXAS HEAT, ALONG WITH MANY OTHER STATES, IS DAMAGING OUR DASHBOARDS. NOT ONLY IS IT MELTING, BUT IT BREAKS AND CRACKS IF YOU TOUCH IT. IF A FINGERNAIL TOUCHES IT, IT CREATES AN INDENTION. I HAVE MANY SPOTS ON MY DASHBOARD WHERE PIECES HAVE FALLEN COMPLETELY OFF. NOT ONLY IS IT BREAKING, BUT IT IS ALSO VERY VERY STICKY. IT IS HARD TO CLEAN. THE WORST PART IS THAT IT CAUSES A GLARE AND IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. SINCE IT IS SO STICKY, THE SUN REFLECTS AND CAUSES A GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD. IT MAKES IT VERY HARD TO SEE AND IT IS VERY DANGEROUS.
THE DRIVERS SEATS IN MANY 2009 MAXIMAS ARE UNSTABLE AND ROCK BACK AND FORTH WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION. WHEN ACCELERATING, STOPPING OR TURN CORNERS THE SEATS ROCK CAUSING YOUR FOOT TO BE UNSTABLE ON THE BRAKE OR ACCELERATOR. *TR
I PURCHASE MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA IN JULY 2003. SINCE I HAVE HAD THE CAR I'VE HAD NOTHING BUT MAJOR PROBLEMS. I PERFORM THE REQUIRED MAINTENANCE ON THE CAR AND STILL HAVE NUMEROUS PROBLEMS. I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW NISSAN MAXIMA IN NOV. MY SISTER BORROWED THE CAR FOR THE WEEKEND AND THE BRAKES FAILED CAUSING HER TO HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO A BODY SHOP, THE MECHANIC ON DUTY GOT THE CAR RUNNING, WHILE REMOVING THE CAR FROM THE TOW TRUCK HE DROVE THE CAR ABOUT TEN FEET AND THE FIRST THING HE SAID WAS THE BRAKES FEEL FLUFFY. THE CAR WAS REPAIRED AND CLEARED BY THE BODY SHOP, IT WAS THERE ROUGH 5 WEEKS, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHO THEN INSPECTED THE CAR AND BRAKES, THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG AND DOCUMENTED THE INCIDENT. ON JULY 25 I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM THE PARK WITH MY DAUGHTER IN THE BACK SEAT WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED AGAIN, I WAS LUCKY NOBODY WAS IN FRONT OF ME. I GOT THE CAR STOPPED AND THANKFULLY I WAS LESS THEN A MILE AWAY FROM HOME. ON MONDAY I CALLED THE DEALER AND TOLD THEM IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND SAID THEY CAN COME PICK IT UP, I WONT DRIVE IT AND NO LONGER FEEL SAFE IN IT. THEY HAD IT TOWED OUT THAT SAME DAY, THEY HAVE HAD THE CAR EVER SINCE. THE CAR WAS INSPECTED AGAIN ON AUGUST 21 2009, AND CLEARED AGAIN. I WAS TOLD MONDAY THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE CAR. ON MAY 19TH MY STEERING WHEEL STUCK IN THE HIGHEST UPWARD POSITION AGAIN AND ALSO MY SEAT WAS NOT WORKING, AND THE LOCKS ON THE DOORS KEPT LOCKING AND UNLOCKING WHILE MY CAR WAS TURNED ON BUT NOT BEING DRIVEN, ON MAY 20TH I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR REPAIRS AGAIN, THE SERVICE WRITER AT THE NISSAN DEALER LOOKED AT IT AND ALSO NOTICED THE PROBLEM ( MY STEERING WHEEL WAS STILL STUCK IN THE UPWARD POSITION AND THE SEAT WAS NOT WORKING), AFTER HE PLAYED AROUND WITH SEVERAL BUTTONS HE TOLD ME THAT EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE DOING FINE AND HE DIDN'T KNOW IF THEY COULD DO ANYTHING FOR ME. I TOLD HIM THAT I WOULD LEAVE MY CAR FOR REPAIRS BECAUSE I KNEW SOMETHING WAS WRONG STILL WITH MY CAR. I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL FROM THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THERE WERE RECALLS FOR THE 2008 ALTIMA, WHY CAN I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS. IT'S A RECALL AND THEY DON'T WANT ACKNOWLEDGED IT NOW. I WENT ONLINE LOOKING FOR OTHER PEOPLE AND THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE EXPERIENCE THE SAME THING. THE NISSAN FORUM SAID THEY TOLD HIM THE SAME THING, AND THIS PERSON COMPLAIN ABOUT HIS WIFE SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THE SAME THING WITH THERE 2009 NISSAN. THIS IS MY 4TH NISSAN, MY SECOND FROM THE SAME DEALER. THEY TOOK MY CAR AND GAVE ME A FREE RENTAL, MY DAUGHTER GOT IN AND THE SAME THING HAPPEN IN THE 2010 AS SOON AS SHE SAT IN. I HAD HER GET OUT, OVER AND OVER AGAIN. FIX THE SEAT BELT. THEY CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE NOT FIXING IT. IT IS MY DAUGHTER. I SAID FOR 1 YEAR IN A HALF SHE DIDN'T SIT RIGHT IN THAT SEAT. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER 2 TIMES FOR THEM TO WITNESS MY DAUGHTER IN THE SEAT. ONE TIME WAS THE SERVICE MANAGER; HE SAW THE LIGHT ON WITH HER IN THE SEAT. I CALL THE HEADQUARTER TO FILE A COMPLAINT, THEY CALLED BACK AND SAID THAT IT IS MY DAUGHTER. THIS LIGHT CAME ON FOR MY HUSBAND, ME, BUT MORE SO MY DAUGHTER WHO WEIGHTS 156 LBS 5'6'. IN ADDITION, THE AIR BAG SENSOR WOULD NOT WORK WHENEVER A PASSENGER UTILIZED THE BACK REST. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE SENSOR WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE SENSOR WAS NOT DESIGNED TO WORK WITH A BACK REST AND THEY WERE NOT LIABLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 750 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150.
