VEHICLE WON'T START AT TIMES. HAS STRANDED MY WIFE MULTIPLE TIMES. EACH TIME REQUIRED A JUMP. THOUGHT WAS BATTERY, SO REPLACED. CONTINUED TO FAIL. THIS LAST TIME WIFE TRIED TO TURN WHEEL A BIT WHILE LOCKED AND VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE STARTED AGAIN, SHE AVOIDED BEING STRANDED ONCE AGAIN. KNOWN ISSUE WITH NISSAN.
ATTEMPTING TO LEAVE AFTER WORK, MY CAR WOULD NOT START. I NOTICED THAT THERE WAS A FLASHING YELLOW LIGHT AND I PLUGGED THAT INTO GOOGLE. IT APPEARED THAT IT WAS THE STEERING LOCK CONTROL MECHANISM AND IT WAS COMMON FOR THIS TO FAIL. I HAD TO GET MY CAR TOWED FROM WORK TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CHARGE WAS $900 FOR THE PART AND $250 FOR THE SERVICE. DOING RESEARCH, I NOTICED THAT THIS PART WAS RECALLED FOR 2009 ALTIMAS. I BOUGHT MY CAR IN 2009, BUT IT WAS A 2010 MODEL, SO IT IS MY ASSUMPTION THAT THIS WAS MADE WITH THESE 2009 PARTS. THIS PART IS VITAL APPARENTLY, AS IT CAUSES ALL OF THE ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS WITH THE STARTER TO DISABLE. I FEEL FORTUNATE THAT I WAS NOT TRAVELING AS I WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED. IT FEELS THAT NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, HOWEVER, THEY ARE NOT FIXING IT AND CHARGING A LARGE AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR THE PART ALONE. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE FOR USERS OF NISSAN'S TO NOT BE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND NOT HAVE THIS PART FIXED IMMEDIATELY. NISSAN SHOULD DO THEIR PART AND OFFER A REPLACEMENT FOR FREE SO INDIVIDUALS HAVE FAITH IN USING THEIR SERVICES AGAIN.
I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY HEADED TO NASHVILLE,TENNESSEE. I HAD BEEM DRIVING APROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES WHEN MY GAS PEDAL STOP WORKING ON ME. THE CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN AND I START PULLING OVER TO GET OUTBOF OTHER CARS WAYS. THE BREAKS WERE STILL WORKING BUT THE GAS WAS NOT WORKING. I TURNED THE CAR ON AND OFF AND STILL NO GAS BUT ALLL OF THE SUDDEN ALL THE LIGHTS CAME ON SO I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO CALL MY INSURANCE FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. I HAVE NEVER HAD OR HEARD OF AN ISSUE LIKE THIS.
PARKED VEHICLE WOULD NOT RECOGNIZE ENERGIZED FOB START SIGNAL, REQUIRING TOW TO DEALERSHIP, REPLACEMENT OF STEERING LOCK ASSEMBLY (PARTS COST $744.68). AT 64,247 MI (OUT OF WARRANTEE), ISSUE IS OF DESIGN WITHOUT EMERGENCY MECHANICAL STARTING PROCEDURE, EXTREME COST OF REPLACEMENT, UNFORESEEN FAILURE NOT DUE TO OPERATOR.
KEY LOCK WILL NOT ALLOW CAR TO START OR TURN IGNITION.
WHEN I TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE, IT WAS UNRESPONSIVE AND THE ANIT-THEFT BUTTON WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL, THOUGH THERE WAS NOTHING THAT SHOULD HAVE PROMPTED THIS (I WAS DOING YARD AND NO ONE WAS NEAR VEHICLE). THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS STIFF AND THE WHEEL WAS NOT MOVABLE. NEITHER THE ACTUAL KEY OR THE SMART KEY FOB WOULD START THE VEHICLE. I ATTEMPTED TO RESET THE SMART KEY FOB AS PER THE OWNER'S MANUAL (SEE ANIT-THEFT SECTION) NUMEROUS TIMES AND IT DID NOT WORK. ULTIMATELY, THE VEHICLE'S BATTERY DIED THAT NIGHT (UNSURE IF THERE WAS A DRAIN COMING FROM SOMEWHERE AS A RESULT OF THIS ANTI-THEFT LIGHT) AND AAA CAME TO JUMP START IT THE FOLLOWING MORNING. AFTER JUMPING THE CAR THE TECH RAN A DIAGNOSTIC ON THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR WHICH BOTH CAME BACK ACCEPTABLE (THOUGH THE VOLTAGE WAS OBVIOUSLY LOW IN THE BATTERY - JUST NEEDED TO BE DRIVEN AND RECHARGED). THE FACT THAT I HAD MY KEY AND WAS UNABLE TO START MY VEHICLE WHILE FOLLOWING THE GUIDANCE OF MY OWNER'S MANUAL WAS DISCONCERTING AND CONCERNING. I HAVE A WIFE AND 2 YOUNG DAUGHTERS AND WE ARE A ONE CAR FAMILY. HAD THERE BEEN AN EMERGENCY, THIS COULD BE A SERIOUS ISSUE. THIS IS MY FIRST DAY ON THE NHTSA SITE AND AFTER RESEARCHING SIMILAR YEAR MAXIMA'S, THE PROBLEM SEEMS WIDESPREAD AND THERE IS SEEMINGLY NO ACTION BEING TAKEN BY EITHER NHTSA OR NISSAN. PLEASE ADVISE ON REASONING AS TO WHY, WITH NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ACROSS A NUMBER OF MODEL YEARS AND MODELS, THERE HAS NOT BEEN ANY ACTION BY NHTSA AND/OR NISSAN. THANKS VERY MUCH.

WE OWN A 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA MANUFACTURED IN 2009. WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW IN JANUARY 2010. ON MONDAY, MY CAR REFUSED TO START. AFTER CONDUCTING SOME RESEARCH, I DISCOVERED OUR VEHICLE HAS A DEFECTIVE ESCL WHICH IS LEAVING PEOPLE STRANDED BECAUSE THEIR CAR WON'T TURN ON AND NEITHER WILL ANY ACCESSORY FUNCTION THERE ARE HUNDREDS UPON HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET FROM LOYAL CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE SPENT $700 TO $1600 FIXING THIS PROBLEM. 2009 MODELS ARE NOW PART OF AN EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM TO REPLACE THIS PART. MY VEHICLE IS NOT PART OF THAT EXTENDED WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE SAME EXACT PART. YESTERDAY, I CALLED NISSAN OF AMERICA TO REQUEST THAT MY VEHICLE BE ADDED TO THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM. THE EMPLOYEES INFORMED ME THAT I COULD TAKE MY VEHICLE TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR, PAY THE BILL AND THEN SUBMIT FOR A "GOOD WILL" REIMBURSEMENT THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE GRANTED AFTER AN UNDEFINED EVALUATION PERIOD. LATER IN THE EVENING, I SPOKE TO A SUPERVISOR AFTER SHE CALLED. AGAIN, I RECEIVED THE SAME INFORMATION. AFTER 25 MINUTES, I FINALLY GOT IT BUMPED TO THE EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT FOR CONSIDERATION OF MY REQUEST FOR APPEAL. FRANKLY, I FULLY EXPECT TO HAVE THE SAME RESPONSE TOMORROW. I HAVE NOT BEEN ON THE PHONE DEALING WITH THIS ISSUE FOR ALMOST AN HOUR AND A HALF. NISSAN WANT ME TO GET THE CAR FIXED FIRST AND THEN SUBMIT A REIMBURSEMENT THAT MAY OR MAY NOT BE GRANTED. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. ADDING MY VIN TO THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM WILL SOLVE THIS ISSUE. THE BOTTOM LINE IS I AM RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING THAT MY VEHICLE BE IMMEDIATELY ADDED TO THE EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM TO REPLACE THE ESCL AND FOR MY TOW BILL TO THE DEALERSHIP BE REIMBURSED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT IS LEAVING MOTORISTS STRANDED BECAUSE THEY CAN'T TURN THEIR CAR ON, CAN'T ROLL DOWN THE WINDOWS, AND CAN'T TURN ON ANY ACCESSORIES. *TR
CAME OUT OF THE STORE AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. GOT THE CAR TOW TO THE NISSAN DEALER ON MONDAY NOVEMBER 25TH 2014. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A INTERNAL SHORT IN THE STEERING LOCK THAT COST ME $950.00 TO REPAIR. *TR

NO ACTIVATION OF THE IGNITION SYSTEM. AFTER FOLLOWING ALL TROUBLE SHOOTING ADVICE IN THE CAR'S MANUAL, I TOWED THE CAR TO DEALER WHERE THEY FLAGGED AN ISSUE WITH THE STEERING LOCK CONTROL UNIT (PART# 487009N00B) AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS ALL PART OF THE VEHICLE ANTI-THEFT IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM. THE COST TO REPLACE THIS UNIT WAS $1041.17. I FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY FLAW IN THE 2010 NISSAN MAXIMA. THIS WAS A FULLY FUNCTIONING CAR (EXCEPT FOR ANTI-THEFT CIRCUIT GLITCH) THAT LEFT ME STRANDED IN A SITUATION WHERE MY CAR COULD HAVE BEEN TOWED BY THE CITY. NISSAN PROMOTES HOW SAFE, RELIABLE AND ECONOMICAL THEIR CARS ARE, BUT THE ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM CAN DISABLE THE VEHICLE LEAVING DRIVER STRANDED WITH ONLY ONE OPTION, WHICH IS, TO BE TOWED TO A DEALER BECAUSE OF ANT-THEFT SYSTEM GLITCHES. THIS IS PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY TO FEMALE DRIVERS.I FEEL THAT NISSAN SHOULD COME UP WITH AN OVERRIDE CODE OR DEVICE THAT WILL ALLOW A DRIVER TO ESCAPE FROM POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS THAT WERE CREATED BY NISSAN'S VEHICLE IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM. ESPECIALLY WHEN THE CAR IS FULLY FUNCTIONAL EXCEPT FOR AN ANTI-THEFT IMMOBILIZING CIRCUIT FALSELY TELLING THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT READY TO START WHEN IT IS. I BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY FLAW IN THEIR VEHICLE SECURITY SYSTEM. *TR

I SPENT 3 HOURS FREEZING ME BUTT OFF TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT I DID WRONG NOT REALIZING IT WAS NISSAN THAT IS ACTUALLY AT FAULT. SO BASICALLY I'M OUT OF A DAYS PAY AT WORK, HAVE TO PAY FOR A TOW TRUCK TO TAKE MY CAR BACK TO MY HOME BECAUSE IT DEALER I CLOSED, THEN PAY FOR ANOTHER TOW TRUCK IN THE MORNING TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE DEALER THEN PAY TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED THE SAME TIME THEY RECALLED THE GT-R FOR THE SAME PARTS AND SAME ISSUES.
