I BOUGHT MY SUV NEW IN JUNE 2003. A MONTH AFTER IT STARTED SHUTTING OFF AS IF IT WAS OUT OF GAS. THE DEALER STATED THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH IT. THEY TOOK IT FOR A WEEK AND "FIXED" THE PROBLEM AFTER MY INSISTENCE. A MONTH LATER THE RADIO AND ALL THE POWER SOCKETS IN MY CAR STARTED KICKING OUT AND I WENT THROUGH A BOX OF 300 FUSES. AGAIN, THE DEALER SAID THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. THE SCARIEST PROBLEM IS THAT MY CAR WILL JUST STALL OUT IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. I TOLD THEM OF THIS PROBLEM 18 MONTHS AFTER I GOT THE CAR. IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR AND THAT I NEEDED THE MILE SERVICE TO BE DONE AS WELL AS A TRANSMISSION FLUSH. THIS WAS DONE FOR $500 AND THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURRED. I RECENTLY FOUND OUT THAT IT IS A THROTTLE BODY THAT THE CAR NEEDS. THE PART IS $160. THE SERVICE IS $2000. I HAVE BEEN TELLING THEM THAT I HAD THIS PROBLEM FOR THREE YEARS. IT WAS JUST DIAGNOSED, BY A MECHANIC OTHER THAN NISSAN DUE TO MY FEAR AFTER A NEAR ACCIDENT. I WAS TRYING TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN AND THE CAR WOULD NOT DRIVE OR MOVE. I WAS IN THE INTERSECTION AND MY DAUGHTER WAS IN THE BACK SEAT. MY FOOT WAS TO THE FLOOR ON THE PEDAL. I SCREAMED OUT OF THE IMPENDING ACCIDENT. THE ONCOMING CAR UNAWARE OF MY DILEMMA SLOWED DOWN AND DIPPED TO THE OTHER LANE BUT NOT AFTER BLOWING THE HORN AT ME. THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED TWICE IN A 2 YEAR PERIOD. THIS IS RIDICULOUS. BY THE WAY THE CAR WAS RECALLED 3 TIMES IN A THREE YEAR PERIOD. I NEED HELP. I HAVE SPENT $7000 IN REPAIRS TO THE CAR SINCE I BOUGHT IT. I HAVE ALL THE RECEIPTS FROM NISSAN FOR THE SERVICE. *TR
I RECENTLY SUBMITTED A COMPLAINT. I READ OVER THE OTHER COMPLAINTS AFTER SUBMISSION AND REALIZED THAT 90% OF THE COMPLAINTS SUBMITTED ARE SAME OR SIMILAR TO MY PROBLEM. I WAS IN FACT TOLD TWO DIFFERENT REASONS FOR MY CAR ISSUES FROM TWO DEALERS IN TWO DIFFERENT STATES. I AM AFRAID THAT NISSAN DOES NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS OR IS NOT RELAYING IT TO THEIR TECH'S. MY CAR IS LOOSING POWER DURING TAKE OFF AND THRUSTING FORWARD. THIS MOSTLY OCCURS IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. TO REMEDY, I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND TURN OFF THE CAR. ARE WE NOT ADDRESSING THIS ISSUE BECAUSE IT COSTS NISSAN TO MUCH TO FIX ALL THE VEHICLES IN NEED OR IS YOUR AGENCY TURNING A BLIND EYE UNTIL AN ACTUAL ACCIDENT OR DEATH OCCURS. THIS PROBLEM WILL OCCUR ON THE HWY, LOCAL STREET, ANYWHERE. IT DOES NOT DISCRIMINATE AND COSTS MUCH TO FIX. THE BIGGEST PROBLEM IS THAT I AM UNDER THE ASSUMPTION THAT IF THEY "FIX" IT MAY STILL BE BROKEN DUE THEM NOT KNOWING THE PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT WAS THE FOLLOWING: THROTTLE BODY, VALVE BODY, AND TRANSMISSION. *TR
ON AUGUST 17, 2005 AT APPROXIMATELY 1:30 P.M. I WAS DRIVING MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO SUV ON I-88 IN SUBURBAN CHICAGO AT ABOUT 35-40 MPH. WHEN I RAN OVER A PIECE OF METAL DEBRIS. THIS RESULTED IN MY VEHICLE'S GAS TANK BEING PUNCTURED. (THE TANK HAS SUBSEQUENTLY BEEN REPLACED) NO OTHER DAMAGE WAS INCURRED. NO ONE WAS INJURED. NO OTHER VEHICLES WERE INVOLVED. I DO NOT KNOW IF THE NISSAN DEALER KEPT THE OLD GAS TANK. I SAW THE DAMAGED TANK AFTER IT WAS REMOVED. THERE WAS A HOLE IN IT THE SIZE OF A QUARTER. I DID NOT REALIZE THE GAS TANK WAS MADE OF PLASTIC. *JB
DT: THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER 8-15-05. SHE WAS TOLD IT WAS URGENT TO HAVE THE CAR TAKEN TO DEALER FOR RECALL REPAIRS. THEY MADE ARRANGEMENTS TO RENT A CAR. THEY TOOK THE CAR IN AND THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS TO FIX THE CAR. SHE FELT THAT NISSAN SHOULD REIMBURSE HERFOR A RENTAL. THIS WAS THE SECOND TRIP THEY HAVE TO MAKE TO HAVE THIS FIXED. SHE DID NOT FEEL LIKE NISSAN SHOULD HAVE SENT THE RECALL LETTER IF THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS. SHE WAS GOING TO HOLD NISSAN RESPONSIBLE IF THERE WAS AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS RECALL. THEY DID NOT GIVE THEM IDEA AS TO WHEN THE PARTS WOULD BE IN. *AK
COPY OF LTR ADDRESSED TO NISSAN REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR TOWING CHARGES INCURRED DUE TO RECALLED ALTERNATOR ON HIS 2003 NISSAN MURANO.*MR *NM
AFTER USING MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO IN THE MORNING TO TAKE MY ONE DAUGHTER TO SCHOOL, MY YOUNGER DAUGHTER & I RETURNED HOME FOR AN APPOINTMENT. AFTERWARD, WE GOT BACK IN THE CAR TO RUN ERRANDS. UPON STARTING THE CAR, THE BATTERY WARNING LIGHT AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHT BOTH ILLUMINATED. ASSUMING THAT THIS WASN'T GOOD, WE PROCEEDED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. ABOUT 1 MILE AWAY FROM THE DEALERSHIP, THE CAR DIED ON US AND - THANKFULLY - WE COASTED INTO A GAS STATION. I PLACED A CALL DIRECTLY TO THE DEALERSHIP TO INFORM THEM OF THE SITUATION AND THEY RESPONDED QUITE QUICKLY - FOR WHICH I WAS GRATEFUL AS MY MONTH-OLD DAUGHTER WAS WITH ME IN THE CAR AND WITHOUT A/C IT WOULD HAVE GOTTEN QUITE WARM. MY COMPLAINT ISN'T WITH THE SERVICE I RECEIVED, BUT WITH THE FACT THAT I WAS NOT INFORMED OF THIS RECALL UNTIL AFTER THE PROBLEM OCCURRED WITH MY CAR. EVEN UPON BRINGING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, NO ONE INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE ALTERNATOR (I.E., THE RECALL) UNTIL AFTER THE REPAIR WORK HAD BEEN PERFORMED. AND WE DIDN'T RECEIVE AN OFFICIAL NOTICE FROM NISSAN UNTIL ONE WEEK AFTER THE INCIDENT.
APRIL 2003 PURCHASED A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. IN JULY 2003, AFTER HAVING BEEN STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, I PRESSED THE GAS TO GO FORWARD AND THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE FOR A FEW SECONDS, THEN IT QUICKLY SURGED FORWARD. LUCKILY I WAS THE FIRST CAR AT THE LIGHT OR I WOULD HAVE RAMMED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. THE DEALER REGAL NISSAN SAID IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR AND REPLACED IT. IN JUNE 2005 AGAIN, THE CAR STARTED STALLING THEN QUICKLY ACCELERATING, WE HAD MOVED SO WE TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP CROWN NISSAN AND THEY, AGAIN, REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR. JULY 29, 2005, ON A TRIP TO FLORIDA, THE CAR ACTED UP AGAIN AT THE RED LIGHTS, IT ALSO WOULD SLOW DOWN, WHILE DRIVING, THEN ACCELERATE QUICKLY. I AGAIN TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP KRAFT NISSAN OF TALLAHASSEE AND THEY STATED IT WAS A TRANSMISSION ISSUE AND THEN ADVISED I TAKE TO MY HOMETOWN DEALER, CROWN NISSAN.COWN NISSAN WAS NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSE OR PRODUCE ANY PROBLEM. THEY DID NOT CALL KRAFT NISSAN AND SEEK ADVICE OR INPUT FROM THEM. I AM HAVING TROUBLE GETTING THEM TO SOLVE THE PROBLEMS. IT IS DANGEROUS, BECAUSE OF THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION, YOU COULD HIT ANOTHER CAR OR A PERSON. WE ARE FORTUNATE BECAUSE THERE HAVE BEEN OTHERS WHO HAVE STALLED ON THE INTERSTATE OR BUSY HIGHWAYS. SOMETHING IS WRONG WHEN THEY CONTINUALLY REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR AND STILL HAVE PROBLEMS. *JB
BRAKE AND BATTERY LIGHTS LIT UP AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER TO ACCELERATE/KEEP UP WITH 65 MPH TRAFFIC ON I-50 EAST HIGHWAY. NEED TO CRAWL BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND DRIVE UNDER 40 MPH SPEED, VERY DANGEROUS! EVERY CARS BEHIND ME LITERALLY NEED TO SLAM THEIR BRAKES AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN THE TRAFFIC ON THE LEFT LANE. DEALER'S DIAGNOSTIC WAS: THE INFAMOUS ALTERNATOR FAILURE ON THIS VEHICLE MODEL.
MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO IS IN THE SHOP HAVE TO THE ALTERNATOR REPLACED FOR THE THIRD TIME IN LESS THAN A YEAR. THE FIRST TIME TIME IT WENT OUT WAS IN SEPT-04. IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THE DEALER CAME AND TOWED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND REPLACED IT. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ONE MONTH AGO ON MY WAY TO CALIFORNIA FROM UTAH. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER. THEY SAID IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR AND THE BATTERY. IT COST OVER$500.00FOR PARTS AND LABOR PLUS THE COST OF THE TOW. THREE DAYS AGO IT WENT OUT AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY SAID THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY BUT WE HAD TO PAY FOR THE TOW AGAIN. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT OUT OF TOWN. I JUST READ THAT THERE IS A RECALL THANKS TO YOUR ORGANIZATION. I HOPE THE DELERSHIP WILL BE ABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM W/O THE RECALL LETTER. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SEE A REFUND.
THE BATTERY AND BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON IN MY MURANO, BUT THE CAR APPEARED TO STILL BE DRIVING AND STARTING JUST FINE, SO I ASSUMED IT WAS MERELY A SHORT AND DECIDED TO WAIT UNTIL MY NEXT SERVICE. 2 DAYS LATER, THE CAR LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING, THE ACCELERATOR WOULD NOT RESPOND AND EVENTUALLY STALLED, DESPITE BEING ABLE TO TURN OVER AGAIN AFTER STOPPING. I HAVE SINCE DISCOVERED THA THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AMONG MURANO OWNERS RELATED TO ALTERNATORS.
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING BY HERSELF AT NIGHT APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES FROM OUR HOME. AS SHE WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE THE BRAKE LIGHT AND BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. THE DASH BECAME DIM AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE POWER. SHE WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO A NEARBY GAS STATION. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WENT OUT. THE CAR WAS TOWED AND IS NOW AT A DEALER WAITING TO BE SERVICED.
THIS CAR HAS A SERIOUS SAFETY FLAW IN THAT IT HESITATES FROM AN IDLING STOP. WHEN YOU PRESS ON THE GAS WHILE SITTING WITH THE ENGINE IDLING THE CAR WILL JUST SIT THERE AND THEN LURCH FORWARD SUDDENLY. I FIRST HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE IN 2005 OR THEREABOUTS, TOOK IT TO THE DEALER (WILDE NISSAN WAUKESHA WI) WHO CONTENDED THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THIS WAS/IS A VERY INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WHICH COMES AND GOES WITHOUT WARNING, YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN. I SUBSEQUENTLY TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND GOT THE SAME STORY. EVENTUALLY THE DEALERSHIP CHANGED HANDS AND THE NEW OWNER (BOUCHER NISSAN WAUKESHA WI, SAME ADDRESS AND LOCATION AS ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP) WAS DILIGENT ABOUT RESEARCHING AND FINDING THE PROBLEM. IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A "VALVE BODY PROBLEM" BY THE BOUCHER FOLKS. NISSAN REFUSED TO HONOR REPAIR CLAIMS AND COSTS WHICH WERE ESTIMATED TO BE AROUND $1500 BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS "OUT OF WARRANTY" AT THE TIME BOUCHER IDENTIFIED THE DEFECTIVE CONDITION. I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT NISSAN SHOULD HAVE HONORED REPAIR COSTS AS THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY FLAW IN THIS VEHICLE WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH OR SERIOUS INJURY IF NOT DEATH OF DRIVER. NISSAN HAS TAKEN A VERY NEGLIGENT AND NON CARING CONSUMER RESPONSE POSITION ON THIS MATTER. THE NHTSA SHOULD TAKE NISSAN TO TASK TO REPAIR THIS SERIOUS SAFETY DEFECT IN THIS VEHICLE BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED BECAUSE OF THE DEFECTIVE CONDITION. *TR
NISSAN MURANO - ALTERNATOR FAILURE CAUSING VEHICLE TO BECOME SUDDENLY INOPERABLE. (NOTE - I WAS AWARE THAT THE COMBINATION OF "BRAKE" AND "BATTERY" WARNING LIGHTS INDICATED THE FAILURE, SO TOOK THE CAR IMMEDIATELY TO THE DEALER BEFORE IT HAD A CHANCE TO DIE ON THE ROAD.)
AS I PULLED INTO MY GARAGE, I NOTICED THE BATTERY WARNING LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT WERE ON ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL OF MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO. BECAUSE I HAVE READ ON NISSANMURANO.ORG THAT IS AN INDICATION OF A FAILING ALTERNATOR AND THAT AFTER SEEING THE WARNING LIGHTS MY MURANO WOULD SOON BECOME TOTALLY DISABLED, I CALLED THE DEALER TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED IN FOR A NEW ALTERNATOR. ALTHOUGH IN MY CASE I WAS IN MY GARAGE, THE ALTERNATOR IS A KNOWN ISSSUE ON MURANOS, AND IF THE VEHICLE STOPS ON THE HIGHWAY, THAT WOULD BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. SOME MURANOS HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO HAVE A FAILURE OF THE REPLACEMENT ALTERNATOR, SO I DON'T FEEL THAT THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN RESOLVED YET, AND I FEAR I MAY STILL BE AT RISK.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, WHEN THE BRAKE AND BATTERY LIGHTS CAME ON. THIS 2003, NISSAN MURANO HAD JUST COMPLETED THE 30,000 MILE CHECK UP 6 DAYS BEFORE. SUDDENLY, THE CAR POWER STEERING FAILED, THE CAR'S ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS WENT HAYWIRE AND THE CAR SEIZED UP. I WAS FORCED TO SLOWLY SLIDE OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY, WHERE I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED.
I HAVE HAD MY MURANO 1 YEAR AND HAD NO PROBLEMS UNTIL NOW. IT IS A 2003 AND HAS 22,000 MILES ON IT. WE WERE ON VACATION ABOUT 350 MILES FROM HOME AND I NOTICED WHAT I THOUGHT WAS THE TRANSMISSION ACTING UP. IT JUST CONTINUED TO GET WORSE. I WOULD STOP AT A RED LIGHT AND DEPRESS THE ACCELATOR AND NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN UNTIL ABOUT 1 MINUTE LATER. LUCKILY WE MADE IT IN TO A NISSAN DEALER AND THEY CHECKED IT OUT AND GOT WITH NISSAN TECH SUPPORT. THEY VERIFIED IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION. THEY ARE GOING TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION WITH A NEW ONE. THANK GOODNESS IT IS UNDER WARRANTY! THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP RENTED ME A CAR TO GET BACK HOME FROM VACATION AND WE WILL HAVE TO DRIVE 350 MILES BACK TO PICK UP MY MURANO IN ABOUT 3 TO 4 DAYS.
WARPED ROTORS CAUSE A HAZARDOUS SITUATION WHEN BRAKING GOING DOWN HILL, BECAUSE OF SEVERE VIBRATION. *NM
ALTERNATOR FAILURE
BATTERY AND BRAKE LIGHT LIT ON THE DASHBOARD. THIS IS A KNOWN FAILURE OF THE ALTERNATOR ON THIS VEHICLE. THE ALTERNATOR WILL BE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY TUESDAY JULY 5TH.
ALTERNATOR HAS DIED TWICE WITHIN A YEAR ON A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. DRIVERS DOOR AUTOMATICALLY LOCKS - NOT SUPPOSE TO. WINDOWS GO DOWN AFTER PARKING AND LEFT ALONE SHUT OFF.
DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MORANO. THE VEHICLE INTERMEDIATLEY WILL NOT ACCELERATE. ITS LIKE YOU HAVE TO PUMP THE GAS PEDAL TO GET IT TO GO. TOOK TO DEALER 5 OR 6 TIMES. THEY RESET THE COMPUTER AND MOVED TIME TO THE TRANSMISSION. AFTER THAT THEY KEEP SAYING IT WAS FIXED.

NISSAN MURANO 2003 - 26000 MILES - BATTERY AND BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON INDICATING AN ALTERNATOR FAILURE ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER WITHIN 50 MILES OF THE LIGHTS COMMING ON. THE CAR CONTINUED TO RUN AND START AFTER IT WAS TURNED OFF AT THE DEALER BUT THE INDICATOR LIGHTS REMAINED ON. THE REPAIR WAS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTEE, BUT I DID HAVE TO LEAVE THE CAR DUE THE TIME IT TAKES TO REPLACE IT. THEY HAD THE ALTERNATOR IN STOCK,
OWN A NISSAN MURANO. IT HAS 25000K ON IT. THIS A.M. THE BRAKE AND BATTERY LIGHTS WENT ON AS THE CAR WAS IN MOTION. APPARENTLY THERE SEEMS TO BE A DEFECT WITH MURANOS' ALTERNATOR; FOUND THIS INFORMATION ON THE WEBSITE AND IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY ARE CURRENTLY REPLACING THE ALTERNATOR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR WOULD NOT HOLD IN THE UP POSITION, REDUCING VISIBILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 84,740.
MY MOM WAS LEAVING THE GROCERY STORE AND THE CAR CUT OFF WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT. IT SLOWED DOWN BEFORE IT CUT OFF. WHILE WAITING FOR AAA SOMEONE OFFERED TO JUMP THE CAR. IT STARTED, BUT THE BRAKE AND LIGHTS CAME ON. SHE DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP, ABOUT 3 MILES AWAY. THE CAR CUT OFF IN THE PARKING LOT. IT REMAINS AT THE DEALER, AWAITING REPAIR.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THE BATTERY AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. I BARELY EXITED THE FREEWAY AND FOUND A GAS STATION BEFORE THE CAR DIED. THERE ARE 36,400 MILES ON MY CAR AND FOOTHILL NISSAN TOLD ME THAT THE WARRANTY COVERED ONLY UNTIL 36,000. THEY WON'T REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE ALTERNATOR SINCE I AM 400 MILES OVER THE WARRANTY LIMIT. THEN I REALIZED THAT I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE WHO WAS GOING THROUGH THIS. THERE ARE MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THE EXACT THING THAT HAPPENED TO ME. I WAS LUCKY THAT I DIDN'T GET INTO AN ACCIDENT AND THERE WASN'T AS MUCH TRAFFIC AS THERE USUALLY IS ON THE FREEWAY THAT DAY AND I WAS ABLE TO HURRY OFF WITHOUT THE CAR STOPPING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY.
BATTERY AND BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON. I KNEW FROM READING POSTS ON A "MURANO" FORUM THAT THIS WAS A POSSIBLE SYMPTOM OF IMMINENT ALTERNATOR FAILURE. I WAS ONLY A MILE FROM HOME WHEN THE LIGHTS CAME ON, SO I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME SAFELY. I DO, HOWEVER, RESIDE OVER 20 MILES FROM THE NEAREST DEALER. IN ORDER TO GET IT TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE, I DROVE MY OTHER CAR TO THE STORE AND PURCHASED A BATTERY TESTER/CHARGER. I KNEW FROM THE FORUM THAT I MAY BE ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE DEALER IN THIS STATE IF THE BATTERY HAD A FULL CHARGE. WHEN I TESTED IT, IT WAS ONLY OPERATING @ 60%. I CHARGED IT FULLY, THEN DROVE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE CAR CHECKED OUT. I MUST SAY THAT IT WAS NO FUN DRIVING TO THE DEALER (ON THE HIGHWAY) KNOWING THAT AT ANY TIME I COULD LOSE ALL POWER. I STAYED IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE ALL THE WAY SO THAT I COULD PULL OVER IN A HURRY IF NEEDED. TURNS OUT IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR. THE OLD PART IS NOT AVAILABLE. THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD TO INSTALL A REMANUFACTURED PART, AND SEND THE FAILED PART TO NISSAN. I DON'T EVEN HAVE 19,000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE. THINGS LIKE THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING ON A $30,000 CAR! I FEEL LUCKY THAT I KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH MY CAR, AND WAS ON THE LOOK OUT FOR THE LIGHTS. IF I HAD BEEN UNAWARE, AS MOST ARE, THINGS COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE. WHO KNOWS WHEN I WOULD HAVE NOTICED THESE LIGHTS? THE CAR COULD HAVE LOST ALL POWER AT NIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY THAT I TRAVEL EVERY DAY!

THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST BUT WAS UNABLE TO PRODUCE ANY FAILURE CODES. THE DEALER STATED THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO BAD GASOLINE. THE FAILURE PERSISTED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO REPAIRED THE RADIATOR AND THROTTLE BODY. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE FAILURE COULD POTENTIALLY HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THE TRANSMISSION AND WAS UNABLE TO CONFIRM THAT THE REPAIRS WOULD CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 202,000.
THE POWER DRIVER'S SEAT SHIFTS SLIGHTLY AND MAKES A CLICKING NOISE. MY NISSAN DEALER IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER REFUSED TO FIX IT UNDER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE COST OF THE FIX WAS OVER $500. *TR
MY 2003 MURANO DRIVERS SEAT WAS REPAIRED IN 2005 FOR THE ROCKING SYMPTOM I PAID $660.00. FOUR YEARS LATER, THE BRACKET ON THE SEAT FRAME BROKE AGAIN, AND THIS TIME THE DEALER CHARGED $1100 TO REPAIR IT. WHEN I ASKED THEM WHETHER IT WAS THE SAME PARTS THAT FAILED, THEY SAID NO. TURNS OUT THAT WAS NOT TRUE. IN 2005, THE DEALERSHIP FOLLOWED THE TSB FOR THE SEAT REPAIR WHICH INVOLVED REPLACING TWO PARTS - 87458-AR06A (LIFTER LINK ASSEMBLY) AND 87454-CA61A (LIFT MOTOR). NOW, THOSE TWO PARTS HAVE BEEN COMBINED INTO ONE PART NUMBER - 87450-CA68A. ACTUALLY, THE MOST RECENT PART IS 87450-CA68B (I GUESS B SUGGESTS A REVISION). IN EITHER CASE, THE DEALER ARGUED THAT SINCE ITS A DIFFERENT PART NUMBER, ITS A DIFFERENT PART. ITS ACTUALLY THE SAME THING. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH NNA CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND THEY DENIED ANY WARRANTY ASSISTANCE EVEN THOUGH THE ISSUE ORIGINALLY MANIFESTED DURING THE WARRANTY PERIOD. WHAT IS QUITE CLEAR IS THAT THE DRIVERS SEAT ISSUE IS A VERY COMMON ONE. A SEARCH OF NHTSA REVEALS HUNDREDS OF CASES WHERE THE SEAT HAS FAILED ON 2003-2006 MURANOS. 1) MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR TO WORK AND THE BATTERY AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOLD HER THAT I THOUGHT IT WAS PROBABLY DUE TO LOW BRAKE FLUID AND THAT I'D CHECK IT WHEN SHE GOT HOME IN THE EVENING. 2) ON HER WAY HOME FROM WORK, THE CAR SUDDENLY DIES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE (I495) DURING RUSH HOUR. THIS IS PROBABLY THE MOST DANGEROUS TIME ON THE INTERSTATE DUE TO THE GREAT VOLUME OF TRAFFIC TRAVELING AT VERY HIGH SPEED. FORTUNATELY, SHE WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT BEING REAR ENDED. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED BACK TO OUR HOUSE. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND CAME ACROSS A NISSAN MURANO FORUM WHICH HAD A DETAIL DESCIPTION OF THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM. IF I HAD RECEIVED SOME TYPE ON NOTIFICATION ON THIS PROBLEM, I WOULD NOT HAVE PUT MY WIFE LIFE IN JEOPARDY BY ADVISING HER TO TAKE THE CAR HOME. 3) I WILL BE CONTACTING THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS.
BOUGHT CAR IN 2003, BATTERY HAD TO BE REPLACED WITHIN A WEEK OF PURCHASE. A YEAR LATER, THE ALTERNATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. LAST WEEK, WHILE DRIVING THE CAR STOPPED WHILE TRYING TO TURN LEFT AT INTERSECTION. COULD NOT PUT CAR INTO PARK, TURN ON HAZARD LIGHT, OR PULL CAR KEYS OUT. TOWED TO DEALER BY TRIPLE AAA. DEALER CLAIMS THAT BATTERY CABLE WAS LOOSE. I DO NOT WORK ON MY CAR OR OPEN THE HOOD OTHER WHEN THE DEALER DOES THE MAINTENANCE.

THE FIRST TIME OCCURED IN OCT. OF 2004, WHEN I WAS DRIVING IN TOWN, THANKFULLY, AND LOST ALL OF MY POWER. I WAS ONLY DRIVING ABOUT 30 MPH. MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED, AND THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED. THEN, ON JUNE10, 2005, I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY, AT NIGHT ABOUT 55 MPH, AND AGAIN LOST ALL POWER. I AGAIN HAD TO BE TOWED, AND THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED AGAIN, BUT THIS TIME, MY BATTERY ALSO HAD TO BE REPLACED, WHICH WE HAD TO PAY HALF THE PRICE. THIS CAR IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD AND HAS HAD 2 ALTERNATORS, AND NISSAN OF NORTH AMERICA SAYS THERE IS ' NO PROBLEM' WITH THIS CAR OR MODEL. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM, IF SOMEONE HAD BEEN BEHIND ME, OR IF I COULD NOT HAVE STEERED OFF THE ROAD.

THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT THE CONTACT COULD NOT ACCELERATE TO GET THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE ROAD. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MAIN SERVICE CENTER WHERE THEY REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR. WHILE STARTING THE VEHICLE IT WILL START, THEN STALL. AFTER THE 2ND OR 3RD TIME IT WILL START. SERVICE DEALER STATED THE ENGINE STALLING WAS NOT FROM THE ALTERNATOR.*AK
THE ALTERNATOR WARNING LIGHT AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHT ALIT BOTH AT THE SAME TIME. I WAS 7 MILES FROM HOME. I TRAVELED HOME AND THE CHECKED TO SEE IF THE ALTERNATOR WAS WORKING PROPERLY AND IT WAS NOT. I CHARGED THE BATTERY AND DROVE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND AND WILL REPLACE WHEN THE BACK ORDERED PART IS IN STOCK. THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THE PART MY BE DELIVERED.
RECURRING ALTERNATOR FAILURE. VEHICLE WILL LOOSE POWER AND STOP. PUT IN 3RD ALTERNATOR IN LAST 1.5 YEARS. AFTER SOME RESEARCH PROBLEM UNDER INVESTIGATION BUT NOT RESOLVED. CONCERNED SINCE IT LEAVES US IN A PRECARIOUS SITUTATION EVERY TIME. VEHICLE GREAT OTHERWISE.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65MPH, THE ALTERNATOR ON MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO SE (20,500 MILES) FAILED. THE ENGINE STALLED, AND ALL POWER STEERING/BRAKES/ETC. FAILED AS WELL. AFTER PULLING THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, I WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE (BECAUSE THE BATTERY HAD BEEN DRAINED AS A RESULT OF THE ALTERNATOR FAILURE). THE CAR WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHO REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR (UNDER WARRANTY).
PARKING BRAKE LIGHT AND BATTERY LIGHT LIT DURING DRIVING. DRIVING THE VERY NEXT DAY THE CAR'S TRANSMISSION FAILED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION BUT CAR REMAINED RUNNING. WITHIN 10 MINUTES THE CAR FAILED COMPLETELY. BOTH TIMES THE CAR WAS IN AN INTERSECTION AND NEARLY STRUCK BY OTHER TRAFFIC.

NISSAN MURANO 2003 (42,000 MILES) DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND CAR STALLING. BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. ALMOST HAD ANOTHER CAR REAR END ME. AFTER SPEAKING WITH NISSAN SERVICE CENTER, PANAMA CITY, FL I FOUND OUT IT WAS MOST LIKELY A FAILED ALTERNATOR. A CHECK ON THE WORLD WIDE WEB REVEALED MANY OTHER OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A DEFECTIVE ALTERNATOR.
ALTENATOR DIED TWICE WITHIN 70K MILES. FIRST AROUND 32K SECOND AROUND 69K.
I HAVE A 2003 NISSAN MURANO SL. I WAS GETTING AN OIL CHANGE AND NOTICED A DISCHARGE IN MY RADIATOR OVERFLOW. I ASKED THE GUY TO DRAIN THE RADIATOR AND RESERVOIR AND REFILL IT WITH FRESH ANTIFREEZE. THE DISCHARGE RETURNED AND THE CAR BECAME DISABLED IN A BUSY INTERSECTION, WITH NO WARNING LIGHT PRIOR. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY SEEMED TO KNOW EXACTLY THE ISSUE. THE TRANSMISSION FLUID HAD MIXED WITH THE RADIATOR COOLANT?! THEY CHARGED ME $1265.76 AND SAID IT WASN'T COVERED BECAUSE I WAS BEYOND 36,000 MILES. THE RADIATOR LOOKS NEW AND I JUST HAVE TO TAKE THEIR WORD FOR THIS, EVEN THOUGH THEY CAN'T SHOW ME THE PROBLEM. SINCE THEY WERE SO QUICK TO IDENTIFY THIS PROBLEM, I HAVE TO THINK THEY ARE SEEING IT A LOT AND MAYBE THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. I TOOK THE OLD RADIATOR WITH ME AND STILL HAVE IT. 1-THE CAR AT 4000 MILES LOST POWER ON THE ROAD AND COMPLETLY DIED, THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND THE ACTION TAKEN WAS TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR 2- DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE CAR WAS FAILING TO ACCELERATE, I TURNED OFF THE AIR AND MADE IT TO THE DEALE, REORTED IT, THE DEALER TOOK NO ACTION BUT COMPLIED WITH A BULLETIN THAT WAS OUT, THIS WAS AT 18,000 3- AT 22500MILES THE CAR WAS EXPIRIENCING THE SAME ACCELERATION PROBLEM, I AGIAN TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND REPORTED THIS TO THEM SINCE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON, THE DEALER REPORTED THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM 4- AT 24800 MILES APRIL 22ND THE CAR AGAIN LOST COMPLETE POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AS I WAS CHANGING LANES AND IT STALLED, WHICH ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, THE CAR WAS MOVED AND IT WAS TOWED TO THE NISSAN DEALER, WERE THEY CALLED ME ON THE 23RD AND INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS AN ALTERNATOR PROBLEM AND THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THE SERVICE MANAGER RAUL FERNANDEZ, FINALLY CALLED ME BACK AFTER A FEW ATTEMPS TO REACH A MANAGER AT BILL SIDELS NISSAN AND INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS A REGULAR PROBLEM WITH THE NISSAN MURANO THAT THEY GET 4-5 CARS A DAY WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND ALSO THAT THERE WAS NO ALTERNATORS IN STOCK SO IT WOULD PROBABLY BE A FEW MORE DAYS, HE ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THE FACTORY CAN'T SEEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM SINCE THE 2005 MODELS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM . I AM VERY AFRAID THAT THIS CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND LIVES COULD BE LOST.
AT 22,695 MILES. LOSS OF POWER, DECREASED GAS MILEAGE, BATTERY AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. CAR WAS DRIVABLE TO DEALER. NISSAN REPLACED WITH REBUILT ALTERNATOR.
ALTERNATOR FAILED. THE VECHICLE'S BATTERY LIGHT WENT ON AND WITHIN 15 MINUTES THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED.
