THE STEERING BECAME EXTREMELY HARD ALL OF A SUDDEN DURING DRIVING. AND EVER SINCE THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT (ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE) TO MAKE A BIG TURN, ON EITHER SIDE. THIS HAPPENED DURING PARKING, WHEN THE CAR WAS SPEEDING UP OR SLOWING DOWN (10 TO 30 MPH) AND ALSO ON HIGHWAY (UP TO 65 MPH). FORTUNATELY NO ACCIDENT HAPPENED BUT IT IS BELIEVED THE CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE UNDER SUCH CONDITION.
THE REAR SUB FRAME BROKE IN TWO PIECES, WHILE MAKING A RIGHT-HAND TURN, CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
THE SUN VISOR DOESN'T STAY UP AND FALLS DOWN, BLOCKING MY VISION (AN OBVIOUS DANGER). THIS IS APPARENTLY A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2004 MURANO YET NISSAN WILL NOT COVER A FIX.
JUST GOT THIS MURANO. THE OTHER DAY WENT TO GO TAKE OFF FROM A LIGHT. AND THE MURANO WOULDN'T GO ANYWHERE. FINALLY LIMPED TO SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED THE CAR OFF, TURNED CAR ON, WAS FINE FOR A DAY OR TWO. AFTER DRIVING TO GROCERY STORE, LEFT PARKING LOT. STOPPED AT LIGHT. WENT TO TAKE OFF AND WOULDN'T EVEN REV UP, I HAD A BABY AND A SMALL CHILD IN MY CAR, CAR BEHIND ME HAD TO GO UP ON SIDEWALK IN ORDER TO AVOID HITTING ME. THIS IS NOW HAVE HAS BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN IT HAPPENS I HAVE TO FLOOR IT FOR ABOUT 15 SECONDS BEFORE IT ENGAGES THE THROTTLE. HAVE READ THAT IT CAN BE EVERYTHING FROM A BAD GROUND, CVT FAILURE, TRANSFER CASE FAILURE, OR THE IPDM OR ECM IS FRIED. MECHANIC CAN'T NARROW IT DOWN TO WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. NISSAN WANT TO CHARGE ME OVER $100 JUST TO DIAGNOSE IF THEY CAN. AND FROM WHAT I'VE READ THEY WON'T EVEN DO MUCH BETTER THAN SUGGEST CHANGING OUT THE TRANSMISSION FOR A COST OF $6,000. WHY AM I CHANGING TRANSMISSION ON A CAR THAT HAS LESS THAN A HUNDRED THOUSAND MILES? I AM REALLY DISAPPOINTED, MY FAMILY HAS OWNED DATSUN/NISSANS FOREVER. MY DAD STILL HAS HIS 76 280 Z. MY MOM STILL HAS HER 79 280 Z 2+2. MY MOM ALSO HAS HER 95 NISSAN HARDBODY, WHICH HAS BEEN THROUGH HELL AND NEVER ONCE HAS HAD A PROBLEM. I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF NISSANS FOREVER BECAUSE OF THE RELIABILITY AND EASE IN WHICH YOU CAN FIX THEM. I AM SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED WITH NISSAN FOR NOT COVERING THE PROBLEMS OR RECALLING ALL THE PROBLEMS WITH THE MURANO. MY FAMILY MYSELF AND MY FRIENDS HAVE NOW OFFICIALLY DECIDED TO BOYCOTT NISSAN, THEY HAVE NOW LOST LIFE-LONG CUSTOMERS. ON A SIDE NOTE. ELECTRONIC THROTTLES OR FLY BY WIRE, IS THE DUMBEST THING IN THE WORLD. IF YOU HAVE A BURNT OUT BULB NO THROTTLE, CHANCE OF ACCIDENT GREATER THAN 90%. FAULTY STEREO, NO THROTTLE CHANCE OF ACCIDENT GREATER THAN 90%. AM I THE ONLY ONE WHOM SEES A BAD PATTERN HERE? *TR
BOUGHT CAR FROM BILL ASKEW IN FEBRUARY 2015 AROUND TAX TIME... WENT TO GAS STATION AND CAR WOULDN'T CRANK. CALL BILL ASKEW AND NOTIFIED THEM.. 5 MIN LATER THE VEHICLE CAME ON.. WENT TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED A BATTERY... RUNNING GOOD FOR A COUPLE WEEKS. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND NEEDED A ELECTRICAL EQUIPEMENT... RADIO AND CD WOULDN'T WORK. THAT WAS REPLACED ALSO... IN MARCH GOT A OIL CHANGE AT THE NISSAN PLACE.. I WAS TOLD THAT I HAVE A OIL OR GAS LEAK.. NOTIFIED BILL ASKEW... NO REPONSE BUT EVERYTIME I TAKE THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP I GOT IT FROM THEY TURN OFF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND SAID IT WAS NOTHIG.. TODAY SEPTEMBER 5TH 2015 THE TRUCK TURNED OFF WHILE BACKING UP, THE TRUCK STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGH WAY WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS IN THE CAR WITH ME.. CARS BLOWING... 3 MIN LATER I TURNED IT ON AND I CALL BILL ASKEW AND NOTIFIED THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM.. IT WAS AFTER HOURS AND IM CURRENTLY WAITNING ON A RESPONSE.
DRIVER SIDE SEAT WOULD NOT POWER FORWARD, BUT MERELY SWIVEL IN PLACE....AS THE NYLON DRIVEN GEAR ON RIGHT SIDE OF SEAT WAS STRIPPED AND JAMMED IN THE METAL DRIVE GEAR ATTACHED TO THE SEAT MOTOR. *TR
I PURCHASED VEHICLE 2/9/2015 SINCE THAN I HAVE TAKEN TO GET 2 TOTAL VEHICLE INSPECTIONS. BOTH INSPECTIONS I HAVE BEEN GIVEN TWO DIFFERENT ESTIMATED PROBLEMS. WHEN AT A COMPLETE STOP AND TRYING TO TAKE OFF VEHICLE WILL NOT GO, AFTER ABOUT 15 TO 20 SECONDS IT WILL TAKE OFF AT A RAPID SPEED WHICH SCARES ME TO THE POINT WHERE I AM GLAD IT DOESN'T HAPPEN ON EXPRESSWAY I KNOW ME AND MY 8 YR OLD WOULD BE INJURED. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT COULD BE THE TRANSMISSION AND/OR THE TRANS CASE BOTH I HAVE LOOKED UP AND OMG MORE COMPLAINTS THAN ANY VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED. SECOND ISSUE IS, WHEN TURNING A CORNER LEFT OR RIGHT IT HESITATES LIKE IT DOESN'T WANT TO GO, I HAVE BEEN TOLD ITS THE TRANS CASE. IF NISSAN KNOWS THERE ARE ISSUES WITH THE CVT WHY HAVEN'T THEY DONE A RECALL, ESPECIALLY BEFORE SOMEONE DIES WITH THE DELAYED HESITATION. I JUST SPENT $6,000 ON THE VEHICLE BECAUSE I WAS TOLD GO FOREIGN YOU WON'T BE UNHAPPY, AND HERE I AM BEING TOLD I NEED TO SPENT ANOTHER $6,000 TO REPAIR AN ISSUE THAT'S HAS SO MANY COMPLAINTS. *TR
VEHICLE STOPPED WHILE DRIVING. CAR WAS STILL RUNNING BUT WOULD NOT MOVE. TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION AND THE MAIN PROBLEM WITH THE MURANO IS THE UNIVERSAL SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND TRANSFER PLATE WHICH COSTS $4600 TO REPLACE. THE TECHNICIAN SAID NISSAN WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, I HAVE TO BUY/REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE SHOP TODAY BECAUSE THE DOORS ARE NOT LOCKING OR UNLOCKING. MY HATCH ONLY WORKS SOME OF THE TIME AS WELL. I FOUND OUT THAT THE ACTUACTOR IS OUT ON ALL THE DOORS. THIS IS CRAZY ARE OUT ON A CAR THAT ONLY HAS 79K MILES ON IT AND IS 11 YEARS OLD. THE COST WILL BE ABOUT 2K TO GET FIXED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, I HAVE THREE SMALL KIDS. HAVING TO THEM STAND OUTSIDE WHILE I CLIMB INSIDE TO MANUALLY UNLOCK THE DOORS IS UNSSAFE. IF I LEAVE THE CAR UNLOCKED AT NIGHT WHEN WE ARE OUT, THAT LEAVES US VULNERABLE FOR SOMEONE ENTERING THE CAR AND HIDING IN IT UNTIL WE RETURN. ONCE WE GET IN WE MANUALLY LOCK THE DOORS BUT IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT AND WE NEEDED TO QUICKLY EXIT OR EMERGENCY RESPONDS NEED TO QUICKLY GET US OUT OF THE CAR, IT IS NOT POSSIBLE. IT IS GOING TO COST 2K TO GET THIS FIXED. I HAVE BEEN READING FORUMS, THIS IS A BIG ISSUE ON THE NISSAN MURANO, IT NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. IF IT IS NOT A RECALL, I WOULD LIKE NISSAN ACCEPT SOME OF THE FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY OF THIS REPAIR. *TR
I HAD THE EXACT SYMPTOMS APPEAR IN MY MAKE/MODEL AS DESCRIBED IN RECALL ID #36089. THIS WAS A RECALL PUT OUT BY NISSAN MANY YEARS BACK ON SIMILAR VEHICLES. "AN OPEN CIRCUIT IN THE ALTERNATOR CAN OCCUR DURING WIRE FATIGUE CAUSED BY MOVEMENT OF THE ROTOR COIL DURING RAPID CHANGES IN ENGINE SPEED IN VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION (CVT). HIGHER ENGINE COMPARTMENT TEMPERATURE IN THE MURANO COMPARED TO OTHER NISSAN MODELS MAY ALSO BE A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR TO THE WIRE FATIGUE. WHEN AN OPEN CIRCUIT OCCURS IN THE ALTERNATOR, THE CHARGE WARNING AND BRAKE WARNING LAMPS COME ON. IF A DRIVER DOES NOT SEEK REPAIR OF THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY AS INSTRUCTED IN THE OWNERS MANUAL AND CONTINUES TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE IN THIS CONDITION, THE VEHICLE WILL OPERATE NORMALLY FOR ABOUT ONE HOUR. AFTER THIS TIME PERIOD, THE BATTERY VOLTAGE WILL DROP TO A LEVEL THAT CAUSES THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE TO FALL INTO A FAIL SAFE MODE. DURING FAIL SAFE MODE, WHICH LASTS ABOUT TEN MINUTES, VEHICLE SPEED WILL BE REDUCED DUE TO A THROTTLE PLATE BEING HELD IN A FIXED POSITION. AFTER THIS TIME PERIOD, THE ENGINE WILL STOP RUNNING." DESPITE MY MODEL YEAR AND MANUFACTURING DATE FALLING WITHIN THE WINDOW FOR THAT RECALL, MY SPECIFIC VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE ISSUE WAS AS DESCRIBED AND REPAIRED AS A FAILED ALTERNATOR. IN EFFORTS TO GET FURTHER ANSWERS AS TO THE FAULTY PART OR RECALL APPLICABILITY FROM MULTIPLE SOURCES AT NISSAN, I HAVE BEEN PROVIDED WITH NO REAL ANSWERS AND AM THEREFORE FILING THIS SAFETY COMPLAINT.
MECHANIC SAYS THE DIFFERENTIAL HAS TO BE REPLACED. CANNOT AFFORD A LONG LIST OF REPAIRS ALREADY SPENT ON THIS CAR, AND NOW THIS, IMPOSSIBLE TO AFFORD AND WILL NEVER BUY A NISSAN PRODUCT EVER AGAIN. I JUST READ THE LONG LIST OF ISSUES WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSIONS ON THE 2003-8 MURANO THAT ALL OF US ARE BEING SADDLED WITH. HOW DOES NISSAN EXPECT ANY CUSTOMER BRAND LOYALTY? *JS
TRANSFER CASE WENT OUT ON THE VEHICLE. STARTED HAVING OIL LEAKS AND A KNOCKING SOUND. LATER VEHICLE WILL NOT PULL, DIFFICULTY SHIFTING. TOWED CAR TO THE SHOP AND WAS TOLD TRANSFER CASE IS CRACKED AND NEEDS REPLACED FOR $3,800. WAS ALSO TOLD AN OIL SEAL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ALSO. READ A LOT OF CUSTOMER COMPLAINTS ABOUT SIMILAR PROBLEM. A LOT POINTING TO A DEFECTIVE PART THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE COVERED UNDER RECALL.
WINDSHIELD WIPERS STOPPED WORKING ABRUPTLY DURING HEAVY RAIN. THIS WAS NOT CAUSED BY ICE OR SNOW BUT BECAUSE OF MECHANICAL FAILURE. LACK OF FUNCTIONING WINDSHIELD WIPERS ALMOST CAUSED A HEAD-ON COLLISION WHICH LIKELY WOULD HAVE CAUSED MULTIPLE DEATHS AND/OR SERIOUS INJURIES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE DRIVER SEAT INDEPENDENTLY MOVED FORWARD AND BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVERS SEAT SUDDENLY COLLAPSED AND LEANED TO THE LEFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE SEAT TRACT WAS INOPERABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE DOOR LOCKS WORK INTERMITTENTLY. I THOUGHT THE DOORS WERE LOCKED AND WHEN I COME BACK THEY ARE UNLOCKED. I CHECKED IT A FEW TIMES AND THE LOCK MOVES ONLY HALF-WAY LEAVING THE DOOR(S) UNLOCKED INTERMITTENTLY. IT LOOKS LIKE IT'S A VOLTAGE/ELECTRIC PROBLEM SINCE IT'S INTERMITTENT. I HAD ALL THE FUSES CHECKED AT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND IT DIDN'T FIX THE PROBLEM. I'M SEEING COMPLAINTS ALL OVER THE WEB REGARDING THIS PROBLEM WITH ACTUATORS IN NISSAN VEHICLES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, BUT FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE STALLED, BUT WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THREE MONTHS LATER, THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE RESET. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBERS: 05V319000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) AND 09V169000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING), BUT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,000.
THE DATE ON THIS FORM COULD HAVE BEEN THE FIRST DATE NOT REALLY SURE, THE MOST RECENT WAS ONE OF THE FRIGHTENING TIMES THE VEHICLE STOPPED RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET ABOUT (4) FOUR TIMES. THIS WAS TRAUMATIZING WE COULD HAVE BEEN HIT BY SEVERAL VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE STARTED JERKING THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN STOPPED RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. ONE TIME REPORTED TO NHTSA, WE WERE IN THE VEHICLE DRIVING ALONG AND ALL OF A SUDDEN WITHOUT A WARNING THE VEHICLE STOPPED. NO JERKING , NO WARNING LIGHT, NOTHING. THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WE WERE IN DANGER AND MY GRAND DAUGHTER WAS IN THE VEHICLE WITH US SHE WAS VERY SCARED THIS WAS TRAUMATIZING FOR US ALL. IF THIS IS NOT ALL ALREADY THIS SHOULD BE ON THE RECALL LIST. IF THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT CAN BE REPAIRED, OR REPLACED. AT THE COST AND EXPENSE OF THE MAKER OR NHTSA I FEEL MY VEHICLE SHOULD BE REPLACED. *TR
MY CVT HOUSING TRANSFER CASE IS CRACKED. I AM HAVING A PROBLEM ACCELERATING MY CAR. MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO MY HOME YESTERDAY BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
TRAVELING ON THE INTRASTATE AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER, NO ACCELERATION TO THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE REVVED BUT NO RESPONSE. IN THE MEANTIME, I HAD TO TRY TO CROSS TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. NOT A GOOD THING TO ATTEMPT IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC NEAR CHICAGO. I HAD IT TOWED IN, BUT UNSURE OF THE PROBLEM OR THE COST AT THIS TIME. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SUBFRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE TRANSMISSION STOPPED WORKING ON THE HIGH WAY ALMOST CAUSING A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AND ALL THE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE ALTERNATOR FAILED TO CHARGE THE BATTERY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,101.
TRUNK HATCH IS LOCKED AND WILL NOT OPEN. DOORS DO NOT ALWAYS LOCK WHEN LOCK BUTTON IS PUSHED. *TR
DRIVERS SEAT, LEFT REAR SIDE OF SEATING AREA DROPPED ALONG WITH UPRIGHT BACK SUPPORT RECLINING BACKWARDS CREATING A MOST UNSTABLE SITUATION. INSPECTION REVEALED COMPLETE CLEAN BREAK OF ADJUSTING SUPPORT BRACKET. RESEARCH REVEALS THIS TO BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH NISSAN MURANO VEHILCES 2003 THRU POSSIBLY 2008. NO KNOWN RECALLS THAT I AM AWARE OF. ESTIMATES FROM NISSAN DEALERS ARE REPORTED IN THE $1,200.00 RANGE FOR REPAIR. UNLESS THE FACTORY STEPS UP TO THE PLATE, I HAVE PURCHASED MY LAST NISSAN VEHICLE.............EVER....... *TR
MY 8 YEAR OLD SON WAS RIDING IN THE PASSENGER SIDE BACK SEAT ON ROAD TRIP FROM ATLANTA TO TAMPA. HE BEGAN COMPLAINING HIS SEAT BELT WOULD WAS STUCK, AND WITHIN A MINUTE BEGAN TO PANIC AS IT CONTINUED TO TIGHTEN EACH TIME HE MOVED. I GLANCED BACK TO SEE HE HAD TROUBLE BREATHING BECAUSE THE BELT SO TIGHT AGAINST HIS STOMACH THAT HIS SKIN AND FAT WAS FOLDED AROUND BELT. I MADE EMERGENCY EXIT AND RAN IN STORE FOR SCISSORS. THEY DID NOT HAVE, BUT HAD A KNIFE I WAS ABLE TO CUT IT IN TIME. HIS STOMACH WAS RED AND SORE. HE WAS VERY SCARED. NOW I CARRY A TOOL TO CUT BELTS. I FILED REPORT WITH NISSAN, AND THEY WOULD NOT PAY TO REPLACE IT. I PAID TO REPLACE IT AND THEY ORDERED 3 SEAT BELTS PARTS AND ALL WERE FAULTY AND THEY COULD NOT INSTALL. THEY MANUFACTURED ANOTHER PART AND INSTALLED IT. THESE BELTS ARE FAULTY AND COULD KILL PEOPLE. THERE SHOULD BE SOME EMERGENCY RELEASE TO PREVENT THIS. SINCE A CAR DOES NOT COME WITH A KNIFE OR SCISSORS, AND FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN WOULD NOT LEAVE EITHER IN A REACHABLE PLACE, THE CAR NEEDS TO HAVE WAY TO ALLOW A PARENT TO RESCUE CHILD FROM A FAULTY LOCKING SEAT BELT. THIS SHOULD BE A STRICT STANDARD TO PROTECT CHILDREN FROM SERIOUS HARM OR DEATH BY MALFUNCTIONING SEATBELTS.
WHILE ON A STOP LIGHT THE VEHICLE TOOK A VERY LONG TIME TO ACCELERATE AT LEAST AFTER 10 SECONDS. THIS CAR IS OWNED BY MY WIFE, THANK GOD SHE WASN'T ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY KIDS. I TOOK IT DO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THESE CVT TRANSMISSIONS ON THESE MURANOS' MOSTLY BETWEEN 2003-2005. THIS SHOULD BE A MUST RECALL AS THIS CAN BE A VERY DRASTIC SAFETY ISSUE AND FLAW DESIGN ON THESE TRANSMISSIONS. IN ORDER TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM MY FAMILY IS LOOKING BETWEEN $2400 TO $3000 ON REPAIRS. FUEL TANK PROTECTOR 2004 MURANO: THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE AND A PLASTIC FUEL TANK PROTECTOR WAS ADDED. THIS REPAIR REDUCES THE GROUND CLEARANCE AND THE HAS BROKEN TWICE ON MY 2004 MURANO. ANY ROAD DEBRIS IS LIKELY TO HIT THIS LOW POINT ON THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD INSPECT THESE REGULARLY OR COME UP WITH A BETTER FIX. ONE CAN GUESS THAT THERE ARE VEHICLES THAT HAD THE PROTECTOR ADDED AND THAT PROTECTOR HAS SUBSEQUENTLY BEEN BROKEN AND FALLEN OFF. I DID CALL 1-800-NISSAN1 TO REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE FAILED PROTECTOR AND THE COMPANY KINDLY AGREED TO MAKE THE REIMBURSEMENT. WELL, I WAS DRIVING I75 WHEN MY CAR DID NOT RESPOND WHEN I PRESS MY ACCELERATOR PEDAL RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGH WAY. I WAS SCARED, SOMETIMES IN A BUSY STREETS WOULD DO THE SAME THING. THE CAR DOES NOT ACCELERATE FROM STOP AT TIMES. SEEMS MORE OFTEN TO HAPPEN WHEN CAR IS WARM AND HAS BEEN IN USE FOR A MIN OF 30 MIN. SOMETIMES THE CAR DOES NOT MOVE WHEN ACCELERATOR IS PUSHED 1/4 OR 1/2 OR EVEN TO THE FIREWALL. SOMETIME THE CAR WILL MOVE FORWARD AND GIVE IMPRESSION THAT IT WILL RESPOND TO GAS PEDAL INPUT BUT THEN STALL ( MOTOR DOES NOT STOP BUT FORWARD MOTION DOES). THE REAL PROBLEM IS WHEN CROSSING MOVING TRAFFIC WITH THE TRAFFIC AT 65 MPH THAT I PULL OUT AND THEN STALL. ITS RUSSIAN ROULETTE. NISSAN DEALER SAYS IT COULD BE X,Y OR Z AND I CANNOT START TO CHANGE PARTS WHERE NISSAN CANNOT AFFIRM WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. THE CAR IS IN MY OPINION CLOSE TO A "DEATH TRAP" DUE TO THIS STALLING. I WAS DRIVING ON MY WAY TO A NEAR HIGHWAY WITH MY TWO CHILDREN, AND I HEARD A SMALL KNOCKING NOISE. WHEN I HAD IT TOWED, AFTER MOTHERS DAY WEEKEND, I WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE TRANSFER CASE. NISSAN OFFERS A WARRANTY FOR THE CVT TRANSMISSION (DUE TO KNOWN FAILURES WITH IT) THAT COVERS 10 YEARS 120,000 MILES, BUT DOES NOT INCLUDE THE TRANSFER CASE (WHICH IS ANOTHER KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE 03 04 MURANO MODELS). IT COST $3,178 TO FIX THE PROBLEM AT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP (WHICH I HAD DONE). WHEN LOOKING FOR THIS PART THERE IS A VAST INCREASE IN PRICE BETWEEN THE 03 04 MODEL IN COMPARISON TO ANY OTHER MODEL, BECAUSE THERE IS SUCH A HIGHER DEMAND FOR THIS PARTICULAR PART (WHICH INDICATES THAT THIS IS A FREQUENT PROBLEM WITH THESE MODELS). I WAS TOLD AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT THE SEALS FROM THE TRANSMISSION WERE LEAKING, HENCE WHY IT BROKE. THE PROBLEM IS, THAT I WAS AT THAT SAME DEALERSHIP NOT TOO LONG BEFORE DUE TO AN ALTERNATOR PROBLEM, AND THEY GAVE ME A LIST OF PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE WHICH INCLUDED: THE BELT, THE BELT TENSIONER, ALTERNATOR, WHEEL BEARING, AND REAR BRAKES, BUT NEVER MENTIONED LEAKING SEALS ON THE TRANSFER CASE. THERE ARE WAY TOO MANY FACTORS INDICATING THAT THERE WAS A MANUFACTURING/ENGINEERING PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSFER CASE ON THESE TWO MODELS THAT WAS FIXED ON LATER MODELS. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING VEHICLE. I ASKED NISSAN TO REPURCHASE THE VEHICLE OR GIVE ME SOME SORT OF SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM, BECAUSE I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT AFTER THE LAST EXPERIENCE WITH IT, AND THEY DECLINED. HAD THIS FAILURE OCCURRED AT THE HIGHWAY IT COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. ON TOP OF THAT THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP RETURNED MY VEHICLE, AFTER A $3,178 FIX, WITH A CRACKED WINDSHIELD AND WILL NOT RESPOND FOR IT. MAKING A TURN ONTO A CROSS STREET AND HEARD A LOUD POPPING NOISE, FOLLOWED BY THE DRIVER SEAT BECOMING UNSTABLE. WHEN THE TURN WAS COMPLETED, IT BECAME OBVIOUS THE DRIVER SEAT WAS BROKEN. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE MURANO, AND HAS BEEN REPORTED NUMEROUS TIMES ACROSS MULTIPLE MODEL YEARS. APPEARS THAT THERE WAS EVEN AN ATTEMPT TO FORCE A RECALL, BUT THAT WAS NEVER FOLLOWED THROUGH. FILED A COMPLAINT WITH NISSAN - REQUIRED A DETAILED SERVICE REPORT (~$125) BEFORE THEY WOULD DO ANYTHING. FOUND THAT THEY WOULD NOT FIX FOR ANY CAR OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY (AND THIS APPARENTLY USUALLY HAPPENS AFTER THE WARRANTY PERIOD HAS EXPIRED). TYPICAL DEALER COST TO REPAIR IS $800 TO $1200. CAN ALSO BE SELF-FIXED BY REPLACING A BRACKET ($100) OR WELDING THE BROKEN PIECE (~$80). TO ME, THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AS THE SEAT CAN BREAK AT ANY TIME WHEN THE METAL HAS FATIGUED. WIFE AND I TRAVELING FROM NORTH GEORGIA MOUNTAINS ON A STATE HWY, APPROX 55 MPH. THE ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE AND FELT AS IF THE CAR VIOLENTLY DOWNSHIFTED (AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION). THERE WAS NO FOREWARNING, NO 'WARNING LIGHTS' ILLUMINATED BEFORE, DURING, OR AFTER THE EVENT. FORTUNATELY FOR US, I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR OFF THE ROAD. THE CAR DID NOT LOSE ELECTRICAL POWER, NOR DID THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. THE SHIFTER DID NOT ACCIDENTALLY GET MOVED, AS THE CAR WAS STILL IN DRIVE. AFTER WE SAT ON SIDE OF THE ROAD FOR SEVERAL MINUTES REGAINING OUR WITS, I DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR, TO MOVE BACK ONTO THE HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL. IT JUST IDLED. AGAIN, I PUMPED THE GAS PEDAL AND THERE WAS NO CHANGE TO ENGINE IDLE. I TURNED THE IGNITION SWITCH OFF, AND BACK ON, AND THE PROBLEM CLEARED. THIS IS THE "THIRD SUCH OCCURRENCE" IN TWO WEEKS TIME. WE TOOK THE CAR TO A LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN LILBURN, GEORGIA (HWY 78) AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM IN DETAIL. THE SERVICE ADVISOR DID NOT COMMENT IF THEY HAD EVER HEARD OF A SIMILAR ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE. ON THE 8TH OF APRIL, WE WENT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT WHAT THE PROGNOSIS WAS FOR THIS VEHICLE. NISSAN DID NOT HAVE AN EXPLANATION. THEIR COMPUTER READOUT DID NOT INDICATE A PROBLEM RELATED TO OUR COMPLAINT. IN OTHERWORDS, THEY HAD NO IDEA, AFTER CHARGING US $125.00 FOR A COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC.
