WHEN GETTING OUT OF CAR TO FILL GAS AND UPON CLOSING DOOR, THE DOORS ARE AUTOMATIC LOCKING, I HAD CHILDREN IN THE CAR. THIS CAR HAS CONTINUE TO DO THIS AND IS SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. AS A FEMALE I WANT TO KNOW THESE LOCKS CAN BE COUNTED ON TO LOCK OR NOT WHEN CORRECT. A CHILD COULD EASILY GET INTO CAR AND DOORS LOCK ON THERE OWN. THIS IS KNOWN ISSUE WITH NISSAN. *TR
DRIVER SIDE VISOR CONTIUNES TO FALL OUT OF THE "UP" POSTION. THIS IS A BIG SAFETY ISSUE, ESPECIALLY WHEN I HAVE MY 3YR OLD SON IN THE BACK! VELCRO DOESNT REALLY HELP EITHER. *TR
DRIVERS SIDE VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP. *TR
THE DRIVER'S VISOR WILL NOT STAY UP AND FALLS WHEN DRIVING. IT IS NOT USABLE BECAUSE IT WILL ONLY STAY IN A STRAIGHT DOWN POSITION WHICH BLOCKS YOUR VIEW AS YOU DRIVE. CURRENTLY THIS IS VISOR IS BEING HELD UP WITH VELCRO TO PREVENT IT FROM FALLING DOWN AND BLOCKING VISION WHILE DRIVING. IF YOU USE THE VISOR, YOU NEED TO HOLD IT BACK TOWARDS THE WINDSHIELD WITH YOUR LEFT HAND, LEAVING ONLY ONE HAND ON THE STEERING WHEEL. *TR
MY 2004 NISSAN MURANO AWD SE FRONT DRIVER SEAT BROKE . I TOOK IT OUT AND PAID TO HAVE A GUY WELD IT . OTHERS HAVE TOLD ME THAT IT IS A COMMON MURANO PROBLEM . SOME SUGGESTED THAT IT IS ALREADY A NISSAN RECALL ISSUE BUT I CAN'T GET ANY INFO TO PROVE IT . IT STILL FLOPS AROUND . ALSO THE FRONT WHEEL BEARING WENT AT 75K MILES BUT THAT'S ANOTHER PROBLEM . THE DOORS LOCK AUTOMATICALLY IF YOU SLAM THE DOOR SOMETIMES . IMAGINE JUMPING OUT OF THE CAR TO PUT MAIL IN THE BOX AND WHEN YOU COME BACK IT'S LOCKED ? DEALER SAID HE FIXED IT ... HE DIDN'T . THE TAIL GATE BACK DOOR LATCH STICKS . ALSO THE METAL RIM OF THE GASOLINE FILLER NECK GOT RUSTY AND PITTED . CONSEQUENTLY THE GAS CAP DIDN'T SEAL PROPERLY AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON . THE DEALER WANTED 800 DOLLARS TO CHANGE THE FILLER NECK . I SANDED IT AND FIXED IT FOR NOTHING . *TR

THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUNVISOR IN MY 2004 NISSAN MURANO DOES NOT STAY IN THE UP POSITION WHEN THE CAR HITS A BUMP IN THE ROAD. IT JUST ROTATES TO THE FULLY DOWN POSITION BLOCKING MY LINE OF SIGHT. I HAVE TO FREQUENTLY DRIVE WITH ONE HAND HOLDING THE SUNVISOR UP. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR FLIPPED DOWN, OBSTRUCTING THE CONTACT'S VISION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. 2004 NISSAN MURANO DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR FALLING DOWN BLOCKING DRIVERS VISION WHICH COULD LEAD TO ACCIDENT. NISSAN HAS MANUFACURED THIS AS A DEFECTIVE PART AS MANY OF THEM ARE FACING THE SAME ISSUE. I TRIED TO CONTACT THE DEALER AND THEY ARE ASKING TO PAY $400 TO REPLACE THIS PART. SUN VISOR IS FALLING DOWN IN REGULAR INETRVALS THROUGH OUT HE DRIVE AS IT LOOSE INSIDE THE PLASTIC. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR FLIPPED DOWN OBSTRUCTING HIS VISION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE EXAMINED FOR THE CAUSE OF FAILURE AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN.
THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR DOES NOT STAY UP. WHEN DRIVING, IT WILL OCCASIONALLY AND RANDOMLY FALL INTO THE DOWN POSITION, BLOCKING THE VIEW OF THE ROAD. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT LEAST A DOZEN TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF OF DRIVING MY 04 MURANO. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED IT WAS AT NIGHT AND I HAPPENED TO BE DRIVING AT NIGHT. THE VISOR DROPPED WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF GOING AROUND A CURVE. LUCKILY NO ONE WAS IN THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANE AND DISASTER WAS AVERTED. BUT THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY UGLY INCIDENT. I HAVE NOT REPLACED THE VISOR COMPONENTS YET, BECAUSE OF THE COST OF THE REPAIR. *TR
SUN VISOR ON BOTH DRIVER SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE WILL "FLOP" DOWN AT ANY GIVEN TIME AND OBSCURE VISION OF THE ROAD. PASSENGER SIDE WAS LOOSE FROM THE DATE OF PURCHASE, DRIVERS SIDE STARTED RECENTLY. *TR

STARTED FALLING AS A RESULT OF ANY JARRING WHILE DRIVING (POT HOLE, UNEVEN ROAD, ETC). NOW, WILL HAPPEN WHEN SUDDENLY PRESSING ON THE BRAKES WHILE IN CITY TRAFFIC. REALLY IS A SAFETY HAZARD. FIRST, THE SURPRISE OF THE VISOR SUDDENLY DROPPING DOWN AND SECOND HAVING YOUR VIEW OBSCURED WHILE IN TRAFFIC. REALLY NEED TO LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE. *TR
DOOR LOCKS AND GAS LOCK DO NOT WORK OR WORK INTERMITTENTLY. THERE WAN AN OCCASION WHERE I HAD TO TOW THE CAR BECAUSE I HAD NO GASOLINE AND WAS NOT ABLE TO OPEN THE GAS DOOR. THE MECHANIC FIX IT TEMPORARILY. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED I BENT THE GAS DOOR AND HAD TO REPLACE THE DOOR. I FIX THAT PROBLEM BY DEACTIVATING THE GAS DOOR LOCK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ADJUST THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT SEAT, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE SEAT WOULD MECHANICALLY MOVE FORWARD. HOWEVER, ALL OF THE ADDITIONAL MOVABLE POSITIONS DID OPERATE NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE CURRRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 89,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 88,000.
MY 2004 NISSAN MURANO HAS A DEFECTIVE DRIVER-SIDE SUN VISOR PROBLEM. IT KEEPS FALLING DOWN AND WILL ALSO NOT STAY UP. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE WHEN I AM DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THE VISOR WILL FLOP DOWN WITHOUT WARNING AND CAUSE ME TO BECOME DISTRACTED, WHICH COULD CAUSE ME TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT. ALSO, IF I PUT IT DOWN, IT WILL NOT STAY IN THE POSITION I PLACE IT IN. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PART IN THE NISSAN MURANO. I HAVE NOTICED ON THE INTERNET THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND THAT NISSAN REFUSES TO COVER THIS UNDER WARRANTY OR UNDER A RECALL. THERE WAS EVEN A NISSAN AUTO TECHNICIAN WHO ANONYMOUSLY ADMITTED THAT THIS WAS A MECHANICAL FAILURE BECAUSE HE HAS TO REPLACE THE VISOR PART ON MANY VEHICLES HE HAS WORKED ON. CAN YOU DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS? *TR
THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR ON MY 2004 NISSAN MURANO WON'T STAY IN THE STOWED POSITION OR THE FULL FORWARD POSITION. IT WILL FALL DOWN INTO THE FIELD OF VIEW WHEN A LARGE BUMP IN THE ROAD IS HIT. *TR
THE DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR ON MY 2004 NISSAN MURANO KEEPS FALLING DOWN EVEN WITH THE SIMPLEST BUMP ON THE ROAD WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. WE PUT VELCRO ON IT AND IT HAS NOT WORKED. TOOK THE CAR TO MOSSY NISSAN AND THEY SAID IT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED FOR $400. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVING AND COULD DEFINITELY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. THE PRICE TO REPLACE IS RIDICULOUS. *TR
1. HAVING A SECURE ENVIRONMENT IS PARAMOUNT IN CERTAIN NEIGHBORHOODS. WHEN LOCKING THE DOORS IT'S IMPERATIVE NOBODY CAN GAIN ACCESS AT WILL BY WALKING UP TO THE CAR. IF ANYONE CAN SIMPLY OPEN THE DOOR TO GAIN ACCESS, CARJACKING, INJURY, OR EVEN MURDER IS EASIER. IF THE DOORS LOCKED PROPERLY THIS PROVIDES A MORE SECURE ENVIRONMENT FOR THIS TYPE OF SCENARIO. 2. NISSAN KNOWING THERE IS A SECURITY PROBLEM WITH THEIR LOCKING MECHANISM AND NOT RECALLING THEM FOR SAFETY CONCERN IS NEGLIGENT. IT'S AN OPEN DOOR TO A LAWSUIT IF SOMEONE WERE TO BE MURDERED DUE TO A DOOR THAT DIDN'T LOCK, ALTHOUGH THE DRIVER PUSHED THE LOCK BUTTON AND HEARD THE LOCKING NOISE. REMEMBER, IN THIS CASE THERE'S NO OBVIOUS INDICATION THE DOOR ISN'T LOCKED UNLESS SOMEONE WALKS UP AND OPENS IT FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE DRIVE "THINKS" THE DOOR IS LOCKED, WHEN IN REALITY IT'S AN "OPEN DOOR" FOR CARJACKING OR ROBBERY. THIS FAILURE IS AN INTERMITTENT OF OPERATION. SOMETIMES THE DOORS LOCK OK, OTHER TIMES THEY DON'T. IN ADDITION, SOMETIMES THE DOORS UNLOCK OK, OTHER TIMES THEY DON'T. . IN EMERGENCIES IT'S IMPORTANT TO BE ABLE TO UNLOCK DOORS QUICKLY. SINCE 99% OF THE TIME WE ALL USE THE BUTTON TO LOCK AND UNLOCK DOORS, USING THE MANUAL LOCKING LEVER IS UNFAMILIAR. AND THE MURANO'S DESIGN IS SUCH THAT IT'S NOT EASY TO COMPREHEND IF IT'S NOT YOUR CAR, FOR INSTANCE A RENTAL CAR. I CAN EASILY UNDERSTAND HOW SOME PEOPLE WOULD BE CONFUSED HOW UNLOCK A DOOR USING THE MANUAL LEVEL IN AN EMERGENCY WHEN THEY VIRTUALLY HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH IT. IN EMERGENCIES EVERY SECOND COUNTS. THE LOCKING/UNLOCKING SOLENOID MALFUNCTIONING IS CLEARLY A HIGH RISK IN EMERGENCY SCENARIOS. SOME PEOPLE WHO CANNOT AFFORD THE $1600 TO HAVE ALL THE SOLENOIDS REPLACED (AS QUOTED BY DEALERS) WILL FORGO GETTING THEM FIXED, PUTTING THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS AT RISK WITH THE ABOVE MISHAP EXAMPLES. THIS SHOULDN'T BE, NISSAN SHOULD RECALL THEM. IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME TILL SOMEONE GETS ROBBED, HURT OR KILLED FROM A MALFUNCTIONING DOOR LOCK. *TR
THE DIFFERENTIAL/CVT TRANSFER CASE IS DEFECTIVE. WHICH REQUIRES YOU TO HAVE TO REPLACE THE AWD SYSTEM AT A COST OF $4-6000. IT ALSO CAUSE THE CAR TO HAVE STEERING PROBLEMS AS WELL. THIS ISSUE ALSO CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO BURN A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF FUEL WHICH REQUIRE PREMIUM GAS.I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE WEB ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEMS OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING. THIS CAUSES UNNECESSARY FINANCIAL HARDSHIP AS MOST PEOPLE ARE STILL PAYING A CAR LOAN ON THIS VEHICLE. *TR
DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR ON NISSAN MURANO WILL NOT STAY IN FIXED POSITION IMPAIRING MY VIEW WHILE DRIVING. VISOR CANNOT BE USED. *TR
LAST YR, THE DRIVERS SIDE LOCK STOPPED WORKING AND NOW BOTH THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AND RIGHT REAR PASSENGER LOCKS AND STOPPED WORKING. THE LOCKS DON'T OPEN EVENT WITH THE KEY. *TR
I WAS TAKING A LEFT HAND TURN WHEN I HEARD SOMETHING SNAP AND MY DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT FELL BACK TO THE LEFT. MY FOOT CAME OFF THE GAS PEDAL WHEN THE SEAT FELL BACK. I'VE READ ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS AND I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS NOT CONSIDERED A SAFETY ISSUE. I COULD HAVE EASILY LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR OR COME TO AN ABRUPT STOP FROM MY FOOT COMING OFF THE GAS IF I WERE TRAVELING AT A FASTER RATE OF SPEED. I JUST RETURNED FROM THE NISSAN DEALER. THEY HAD TO COMPLETELY REPLACE THE SEAT LIFT FRAME ASSEMBLY FOR A "DISCOUNTED" COST OF $1135.80 WHICH I PAID. I COULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR IN THIS CONDITION (THE SEAT WAS NOT STABLE AND WOBBLING EVERY TIME I TOOK A TURN OR HIT A BUMP) SO I FELT I HAD NOT CHOICE BUT TO REPAIR IT. FROM THE INVOICE I THINK THE PART # IS 87450-CA68B AND THEN BELOW THAT IT SAYS MH7826. *TR
O OWN A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. MY INCIDENT RELATES TO THE INTERIOR SUN VISOR ON THESE VEHICLES. I HAVE HAD THESE REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES NOW DUE TO THE FACT THEY WILL NOT HOLD IN PLACE IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION. WHEN THIS PART FAILS THE SUN VISOR DROPS INTO A POSITION THAT CAN PARTIALLY BLOCK DRIVERS VISION. THE LAST REPLACEMENT OF THIS PART ON MY VEHICLE WAS IN EARLY 2008. THIS PART HAS FAIL ONCE AGAIN AND IS NOW PARTIALLY BLOCKING THE DRIVERS VISION. *TR

2004 NISSAN MURANO, DRIVERS SEAT SPONTANEOUSLY BROKE, SEAT IS NOW LEANING AGAINST THE DOOR FRAME. SEAT NO LONGER FUNCTIONS PROPERLY. SEAT ROCKS FROM SIDE TO SIDE IN STOPPING. AFRAID OF FURTHER FAILURE IN SEAT THAT COULD RESULT IN THE DRIVER SEAT COMING COMPLETELY DISENGAGED WHICH WOULD PUT DRIVER AND PASSENGERS AT SERIOUS RISK. INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ACKNOWLEDGES SEAT FAILURE IN MURANOS IS COMMON. *TR
DRIVERS SIDE VISOR DOES NOT STAY UP AND DROPS DOWN TO BLOCK DRIVING VISION. REQUIRES 1 HAND TO HOLD VISOR OUT OF THE LINE OF SIGHT TO LEAVE ONE HAND ONLY FOR DRIVING. CREATES A DANGEROUS DRIVING SITUATION AND CREATES UN DUE ANXIETY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH IN REVERSE. WHEN PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF VEHICLE. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. THE BATTERY AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHT INDICATORS WERE ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL REPAIR PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V319000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: ALTERNATOR/ GENERATOR/ REGULATOR). THE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000.
DRIVER SIDE VISOR WON'T STAY UP. PROBLEM STARTED 6 YEARS AGO. INHERENT PROBLEM DESIGN AS REPLACING THE VISOR WILL ONLY SOLVE THE PROBLEM FOR A SEASON AND THEN IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN.
2004 NISSAN MURANO: DOOR ACTUATORS ON ALL FOUR DOORS ARE EITHER PARTIALLY CLOSING OR PARTIALLY OPENING. THIS RESULTS IN THE DOORS NOT READILY OPENING WHEN TRYING TO ENTER THE CALL. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN FOR TWO REASONS, 1) IT DOES NOT ALLOW FOR IMMEDIATE ACCESS TO THE VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENT OR DANGEROUS ENCOUNTER, 2) IT ALLOWS OTHERS TO ACCESS THE VEHICLE WHEN IT SHOULD OTHERWISE BE SECURED. *TR
1. EVENT LEADING UP TO THE FAILURE - I CHANGED THE AIR CLEANER. 2. THE ENGINE STOPS WORKING SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING. THIS OCCURRED TWO TIMES AFTER I HAD CHANGED THE AIR CLEANER. THE CONSEQUENCES ARE THAT THE ENGINE STOPS RUNNING SUDDENLY, WITHOUT NOTICE, WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING OPERATED IN TRAFFIC. 3. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO PERFORMED THE REPAIR AT NO COST IN A VERY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THE SERVICE PEOPLE AT THE DEALER EXPLAINED THAT AIR WAS LEAKING IN PAST A SENSOR THAT CAUSED THE SENSOR TO SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE. THE REPAIR CONSISTED OF ALIGNING TUBES WITHIN THE AIR INTAKE SYSTEM AND ENSURING THEY WERE TIGHT SO THAT NO OTHER AIR COULD LEAK IN. *TR

IT STARTED FALLING DOWN IN 2007, BY 2009 I HAD TO REMOVE THE LIGHTED MIRROR TO DECREASE THE WEIGHT SO THAT THE VISOR WOULD NOT HAVE THE ADDED WEIGHT PULLING THE VISOR DOWN. I TRIED TO WRAP DUCK TAPE AROUND THE VISOR PLASTIC TAB BUT THE VISOR STILLS FALLS AFTER AWHILE. IT NOW JUST FALLS EVERY TIME I GO OUT FOR A DRIVE. NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND AUTO MAKER WILL NOT MAKE GOOD ON THIS DEFECTIVE PRODUCT!!! *TR
I HAVE A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. THE SUN VISORS FALL LOOSE AT THE SLIGHTEST VIBRATION. EVERY BUMP WE HIT SENDS THEM FALLING INTO MY PATH OF VISION. IF ANYONE CAN SIMPLY OPEN THE DOOR TO GAIN ACCESS, CARJACKING, INJURY, OR EVEN MURDER IS EASIER. IF THE DOORS LOCKED PROPERLY THIS PROVIDES A MORE SECURE ENVIRONMENT FOR THIS TYPE OF SCENARIO. 2. NISSAN KNOWING THERE IS A SECURITY PROBLEM WITH THEIR LOCKING MECHANISM AND NOT RECALLING THEM FOR SAFETY CONCERN IS NEGLIGENT. IT'S AN OPEN DOOR TO A LAWSUIT IF SOMEONE WERE TO BE MURDERED DUE TO A DOOR THAT DIDN'T LOCK, ALTHOUGH THE DRIVER PUSHED THE LOCK BUTTON AND HEARD THE LOCKING NOISE. REMEMBER, IN THIS CASE THERE'S NO OBVIOUS INDICATION THE DOOR ISN'T LOCKED UNLESS SOMEONE WALKS UP AND OPENS IT FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE DRIVER "THINKS" THE DOOR IS LOCKED, WHEN IN REALITY IT'S AN "OPEN DOOR" FOR CARJACKING OR ROBBERY. THIS FAILURE IS AN INTERMITTENT OF OPERATION. SOMETIMES THE DOORS LOCK OK, OTHER TIMES THEY DON'T. 3. IN EMERGENCIES IT'S IMPORTANT TO BE ABLE TO UNLOCK DOORS QUICKLY. SINCE 99% OF THE TIME WE ALL USE THE BUTTON TO LOCK AND UNLOCK DOORS, USING THE MANUAL LOCKING LEVER IS UNFAMILIAR. AND THE MURANO'S DESIGN IS SUCH THAT IT'S NOT EASY TO COMPREHEND IF IT'S NOT YOUR CAR, FOR INSTANCE A RENTAL CAR. I CAN EASILY UNDERSTAND HOW SOME PEOPLE WOULD BE CONFUSED HOW UNLOCK A DOOR USING THE MANUAL LEVEL IN AN EMERGENCY WHEN THEY VIRTUALLY HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH IT. IN EMERGENCIES EVERY SECOND COUNTS. THE LOCKING/UNLOCKING SOLENOID MALFUNCTIONING IS CLEARLY A HIGH RISK IN EMERGENCY SCENARIOS. SOME PEOPLE WHO CANNOT AFFORD THE $1600 TO HAVE ALL THE SOLENOIDS REPLACED (AS QUOTED BY DEALERS) WILL FORGO GETTING THEM FIXED, PUTTING THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS AT RISK WITH THE ABOVE MISHAP EXAMPLES. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 TO 45 MPH AND PROCEEDING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, THERE WAS AN UNUSUAL SOUND AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT HAD TO UTILIZE EXTREME FORCE IN ORDER FOR THE STEERING WHEEL TO MOVE. WHEN SHE MOVED THE VEHICLE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE, SHE NOTICED POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKING UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO ADD POWER STEERING FLUID; HOWEVER, IT WOULD NOT STAY IN THE VEHICLE. SHE HAD TO FILL THE RESERVOIR EVERY TWO TO THREE DAYS TO MAINTAIN ADEQUATE POWER STEERING FLUID LEVELS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION. THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO A DEFECT IN THE POWER STEERING HOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. TRANSFER CASE IN MURANO '04- WE RECENTLY HAD A NEW TRANSFER CASE PUT IN OUR MURANO AS IT WAS DEEMED OUT OF WARRANTY. IT IS EVIDENT THAT EXACT PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OWNERS REGARDING THE SAME PART IN MURANO'S NATIONWIDE. WHILE NISSAN NORTH AMERICA HAS ISSUED EXTENDED WARRANTIES TO ALL THEIR CVT DRIVEN VEHICLES, THEY HAVE COME SHORT IN COVERING THIS COMPONENT WHICH IS A MECHANICAL PART TO CVT TRANSMISSION. IN ABOUT FEB 2010 SOMETHING WENT WRONG WITH OUR 04 NISSAN MURANO. WE TOOK THE MURANO TO NISSAN OF ROSEVILLE, CA, AND THEY TOLD US IN ADDITION TO THE ACTUAL REASON WE WERE THERE, THAT OUR TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WE EXPLAINED THAT WE DIDN'T FEEL ANYTHING DIFFERENT WHILE DRIVING. MIKE (SERVICE GUY) TOLD US THE 2004 MURANO HAS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH TRANSMISSIONS FAILING, AND NISSAN HAS SINCE REDEVELOPED THE CVT TRANS, AND SHOULD BE REPLACED. AND THE WARRANTY IS EXPIRING AT 80,000 MILES, AND WOULD NOT BE COVERED ANY LONGER. WE WERE RELUCTANT, BUT AFTER SPEAKING FURTHER WITH MIKE, AND NOW FEELING SCARED THAT MY WIFE WILL BE STUCK SOMEWHERE WITH A BROKEN TRANS, WE DID RELUCTANTLY LET NISSAN DO THE REPAIRS. OUT OF FEAR OF FUTURE FAILURE. SHORTLY AFTER, NISSAN EXTENDED THE TRANS WARRANTY TO 120,000, OR 10 YEARS. NOW, THE MURANO HAS JUST UNDER 137K, AND THE TRANSMISSION BROKE WHILE MY WIFE WAS ON THE FREEWAY, AND ONLY BY MY WIFE'S QUICK THINKING, DID SHE AVOID A COLLISION WITH ANOTHER CAR. THE WHOLE CAR SHUTS DOWN, EVEN IF YOU PRESS THE GAS DOWN TO THE FLOOR. NOTHING HAPPENS. SHE WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR, AND SLOWLY (5MPH) MOVE OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY. I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND HOW SCARY THIS SCENARIO WAS. SO NOW WE CALL NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS, GAVE THEM THE DETAILS OF THE CAR (YR MAKE MODEL VIN MILES) OVER THE PHONE. NISSAN ASKED THAT I TOW THE CAR TO THE DEALER, SO I DID THE NEXT DAY (FRIDAY 28TH). I RECEIVED A CALL MONDAY MORNING (31ST), AND PAT FROM NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO SINCE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. WE DID NOT WANT THE TRANS REPLACED AT 65,000 MILES, BUT THE DEALERSHIP USED SCARE TACTICS, AND ASSURED US THAT THE NEW TRANSMISSIONS WILL NOT BE A PROBLEM. MY WIFE WAS ALMOST IN A CRASH ON THE FREEWAY, BECAUSE OF THIS VERY COMMON ISSUE. I BELIEVE NISSAN SHOULD RECALL THESE TRANSMISSION DUE TO THE SAFETY HAZARD. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER SUN-VISOR FELL INVOLUNTARILY AND WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO PLACE THE VISOR BACK IN PLACE, IT WOULD NOT REMAIN IN POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE VISOR REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SERVICED AND THE FAILURE ALSO OCCURRED WITH THE DRIVER'S SUN VISOR. THE VEHICLE WAS AGAIN TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED AGAIN, SHE WOULD HAVE TO TAKE THE LIABILITY FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE VISORS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SERVICED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,500.
