SAFETY RECALL
BOTH SUNVISORS STARTED TO WEAR NOT LONG AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR USED BY 1YEAR. NOW BOTH ARE COMPLETELY BROKEN ONE WILL NOT STAY UP AT ALL. YOU CAN TELL IT HAS TO DO WITH THE MANUFACTURING ON THE CLIPS BECAUSE IT'S ENTIRELY TOO TIGHT. THOSE BROKEN ALSO.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2012 NISSAN MURANO. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED AND ATTEMPTING TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES, THE BRAKE PEDAL SANK TO THE FLOOR AND FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS WORKING UP TO SPECIFICATIONS. THE SECOND TIME THE FAILURE RECURRED, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED FRACTURES TO THE RIBS AND ANKLE. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED BRUISED RIBS AND A FRACTURED ARM. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS REQUIRED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 16,000. UPDATED 08/03/16*LJ
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 65 MILES AN HOUR DOWN THE HIGHWAY I HEARD A LOUD BANG OVERHEAD. WHEN I COULD GET TO AN AREA TO INVESTIGATE WHAT HAPPENED, IT WAS THE SUN ROOF GLASS THAT HAD SHATTERED FOR NO REASON. IT WAS A BIG HOLE DEAD CENTER OF THE FORWARD GLASS. THE GLASS BROKE INTO A MILLION PIECES WITH PORTIONS OF IT STILL ABLE TO FLY AWAY.
I WAS CHANGING LANES AS I WAS APPROACHING A CITY STREET INTERSECTION AT ABOUT 10 MPH AND BEGAN APPLYING THE BRAKES TO STOP. I NOTICED THAT I WAS HAVING TO PUSH MUCH HARDER ON THE BRAKES TO SLOW THE CAR AND THEN NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE WAS RACING AT A HIGH RPM. I WAS ABLE TO COME TO A STOP AND THEN PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL. AT THAT POINT WITH MY FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE AND THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL, THE ENGINE RACING STOPPED AND FELL BACK TO IDLE. I WAS THEN ABLE TO PROCEED AS NORMAL ALTHOUGH I WAS SOMEWHAT SHAKEN BY THE INCIDENT. NOTHING LIKE THIS HAS OCCURRED SINCE. I DID HAVE THE CAR EVAUATED BY MY NISSAN DEALERSHIP BUT NOTHING WRONG WAS FOUND.
I WAS DRIVING 55 MPH ON HIGHWAY, SUN WAS IN MY EYES SO I LOWERED THE DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR. IT IMMEDIATELY BECAME FLOPPY AND I COULDN'T GET IT TO RAISE BACK UP. I HAD TO HOLD THE VISOR UP WITH OTHER HAND WHILE SLOWING AND NAVIGATING SAFELY TO PULL OFF OF HIGHWAY. WITH FOCUSED CONCENTRATION, I CAN GET THE VISOR TO GO BACK UP INTO PLACE AND STAY BUT CANNOT SAFELY USE. IT APPEARS TO BE THE "PIN"? THAT ATTACHES UP INSIDE THE VISOR ATTACHMENT TO THE CAR ROOF. ?
SUNROOF GLASS BROKE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THIS HAPPENED IN SEPTEMBER 2015; CAR HAD BEEN PARKED IN THE SUN, FOLLOWED BY A THUNDERSTORM. WE DISCOVERED WATER COMING IN AROUND THE SLIDING INTERIOR SUNROOF PANEL AND SUBSEQUENTLY FOUND SUNROOF GLASS SHATTERED. IT HAS BEEN REPLACED UNDER THE GLASS COVERAGE OF OUR INSURANCE. DRIVING ON A CLEAR DAY (50DEGREES) ON SATURDAY APRIL 25TH, MY 2012 NISSAN MURANO'S SUNROOF EXPLODED. THE GLASS WAS PROTRUDING OUTWARD, AS IF IT EXPLODED FROM THE INSIDE OUT. THERE WAS SHARDS OF GLASS EVERYWHERE AND LUCKILY THERE WERE NO ONCOMING CARS BECAUSE THE SOUND IT MADE INSIDE THE CAR WHEN IT HAPPENED CAUSED ME TO SWERVE A LITTLE. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 75MPH WHEN I HEARD A LOUD BOOM. I LOOKED AROUND AND DISCOVERED THAT THE MOONROOF HAD SHATTERED. IT WAS A SUNNY DAY AND THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC AROUND. THE GLASS IS BROKEN AROUND THE EDGES OF THE GLASS. THERE IS NO SIGN OF IMPACT ANYWHERE ON THE GLASS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 NISSAN MURANO. WHEN THE ALL WHEEL DRIVE WAS ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE WOULD INDEPENDENTLY SHIFT OUT OF ALL WHEEL DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. I PURCHASED A 2012 NISSAN MURANO NEW, MY VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 22000 MILEAS ON IT, NO SERVICES LIGHTS HAVE EVER COME ON TO INDICATE THAT ANY SERVICE WAS NEEDED TO BE PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. I HAD AN OIL SERVICES DONE, HOWEVER IN ONE OF MY OIL SERVICES DONE RECENTLY SOMETHING OCCURRED INCORRECTLY AND MY VEHICLE STARTING BLOWING SMOKE FROM THE MUFFLERS, AGAIN NO WARNING LIGHTS EVER CAME ON TO INDICATE A PROBLEM OR MAINTENANCE WAS REQUIRED. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE ENGINE HAD MAJOR PROBLEMS, THEY TOLD ME THAT FOR THE ENGINE TO BE AS DAMAGE AS IT IS WARNING LIGHTS SHOULD HAVE COME ON. THEY ALSO SAID THAT THEY HAVE SEEN A FEW MORE VEHICLES WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS AND THE WARNINGS NEVER APPEARED ON THOSE VEHICLES AS WELL. *TR

I HAVE A 2012 NISSAN MURANO (SL) WITH ABOUT 35K MILES ON IT. WHILE TRAVELING TO WORK THE MORNING OF 09/16/14 THE SUNROOF LITERALLY EXPLODED UPWARD FOR NO REASON. NO IMPACT, ROAD HAZARD, OR OTHER DEBRIS. TEMPERATURE WAS CONSTANT (60'S) DRY, NO EXTREMES. PART OF THE ROOF WAS THE SLIDING SECTION FOR THE SUNROOF. ORIGINAL SUNROOF AS OF PURCHASE (I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER). *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HYDRAULIC MOTOR FOR THE ROOF FAILED TO OPERATE DURING HOTTER WEATHER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 23,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
ON 4/26/14, WHILE TRAVELING NORTH ON RT. 7 IN KENT, CONNECTICUT AT 45 MPH IN OUR 2012 NISSAN MURANO SL, MY HUSBAND AND I HEARD A VERY LOUD STARTLING SOUND, WHICH SOUNDED LIKE A GUNSHOT AND WHAT I THOUGHT I HEARD ALONG WITH A SMASH NOISE. WE IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I LOOKED AT THE WINDOWS BEHIND THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEATS THINKING SOMEONE SHOT AT US. NOTHING. WE GOT OUT AND LOOKED AT THE TIRES TO SEE IF A TIRE BLEW OUT. THEY WERE ALL FINE. FINALLY, A PICKUP TRUCK PULLED UP ALONGSIDE OF US TO ASK IF EVERYTHING WAS ALRIGHT. WE TOLD HIM WHAT WE HEARD, BUT EVERYTHING LOOKED FINE. HE LEFT. RIGHT BEFORE WE GOT BACK INTO THE VEHICLE, MY HUSBAND LOOKED UP OVER THE ROOF AND SAID, YOU WON'T BELIEVE IT, IT WAS YOUR SUN ROOF. THE ENTIRE CENTER SECTION OF THE SUN ROOF THAT IS ABOVE THE FRONT SEATS WAS A LARGE HOLE, SMASHED FROM WHAT LOOKS LIKE FROM THE INSIDE OF THE CAR GOING OUTWARDS. WE DIDN'T SEE ANY ROCKS OR ANY OTHER DEBRIS THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED IT IN THE AREA, AND THERE WERE NO CARS AROUND US, NO TREES OVERHEAD AND NO OVERPASSES AT THE TIME THIS OCCURRED. JUST THE GLASS SHARDS AND PIECES THAT WERE NOW SITTING ON THE FABRIC VISOR THAT SEPARATED US FROM THE GLASS. AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET, I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF WHAT PEOPLE WERE CALLING "SUNROOF EXPLOSIONS" OR "SPONTANEOUS SUNROOF EXPLOSIONS." I WROTE TO NISSAN CORPORATE REGARDING MY CONCERN OF THE EXPLODING SUNROOF, AND ONLY RECEIVED A GENERIC BOILERPLATE RESPONSE STATING I SHOULD TAKE IT TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THAT WAS IT FROM NISSAN. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS HAZARD AND I WONDER WHY THESE INCIDENTS, WHICH ARE POSTED ALL OVER THE INTERNET, HAVE NOT BEEN INVESTIGATED TO DATE. *JS

THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD ATTEMPTED TO ENTER THE VEHICLE AND A SHARP EDGE PUNCTURED HIS HEAD NEAR THE TOP RIGHT PORTION OF THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO WAS NOT ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,700.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR DRIVERS SIDE DOOR LOCK WOULD FREEZE IN ANY TEMPERATURES UNDER 40 DEGREES. THE DOOR FAILED TO OPEN OR CLOSE. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WARMED THE VEHICLE UP AND THE DOOR OPENED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE WAS 3,500. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
AT SPORADIC TIMES, MY 2012 NISSAN MURANO WILL HESITATE TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOPPED POSITION. ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THIS HAS LEFT ME STRANDED FOR 5-10 SECONDS IN THE MIDDLE OF BUSY INTERSECTIONS. ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS (WHILE UNDER WARRANTY) I NOTIFIED NISSAN ABOUT THE PROBLEM. THE FIRST TIME I CONTACTED CHILDREN NISSAN WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND WAS ADVISED TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN WHEN THE PROBLEM COULD BE REPLICATED OR WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. ON 3-15-14, I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO AUTONATION NISSAN IN MARIETTA, GA TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED AND SERVICED. I DISCUSSED THE ACCELERATION ISSUE WITH AUTONATION, BUT WAS TOLD TO COME BACK WHEN THE PROBLEM WAS PRESENT OR IF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THREE SEPARATE TRANSMISSION SPECIALISTS HAVE DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH A FAULTY CVT TRANSMISSION. THERE ARE NUMEROUS DOCUMENTED CASES OF THE NISSAN CVT TRANSMISSIONS FAILING. THIS PROBLEM HAS BECOME SO PREVALENT THAT NISSAN DESIGNED A SPECIAL 120K-MILE WARRANTY FOR THE CVT IN THE 2003-2010 NISSAN MURANO VEHICLES. THE PROBLEMS WITH MY 2012 MURANO ARE IDENTICAL TO THOSE WHO HAD ISSUES WITH THE 2003-2010 MURANO. DUE TO THE UNPREDICTABLE NATURE OF THE PROBLEM, I AM UNWILLING TO PLACE MY FAMILY IN DANGER BY DRIVING MY MURANO. DUE TO THE VEHICLE NOW BEING OUT OF WARRANTY, NISSAN HAS REFUSED TO ASSIST WITH THE PROBLEM. *DT
DRIVING 60MPH ON BUSY 3-LANE HIGHWAY, I/HEARD A LOUD BANG FROM THE ENGINE THEN LOST COMPLETE CONTROL OF STEERING. I WAS ABLE TO 'MUSCLE' THE CAR OVER TO THE SIDE, SLOWED AND WENT DIRECTLY TO THE MILLER DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THIS SAME THING HAD HAPPENED TO OTHERS DUE TO "COLD WEATHER" THEY SAID THEY WOULD REPORT THIS EVENT. (ST. CLOUD, MN). *TR
WHILE PULLING OUT THE CAR FROM A PARKING SPOT AND PUTTING THE CAR IN REVERSE, AND GIVING IT A LITTLE GAS, THE CAR SEEMED TO SHOOT OUT OF THE PARKING SPOT. THE CAR SEEMED TO BE IN CONTROL RATHER THAN ME. I HIT A PARKED CAR WHILE IN REVERSE. *TR

HELLO, I AM WRITING TO YOU ABOUT A NEW VEHICLE THAT I RECENTLY PURCHASED THROUGH NISSAN. IT'S A 2012 NISSAN MURANO AND I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON FRIDAY DEC 21, 2012. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE HOME (WHICH IS ABOUT 50 MILES FROM THE DEALERSHIP) AND THE NEXT DAY I TOOK MY FAMILY TO VISIT MY MOTHER IN THE HOSPITAL AND THEN WE WERE GOING TO GO CHRISTMAS SHOPPING AT THE MALL. WHILE ENROUTE TO THE MALL I STARTED HEARING A SQUEALING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. AS I WAS DRIVING AND MAKING TURNS THE NOISE GOT PROGRESSIVELY LOUDER AND THEN THE VEHICLE BECAME VERY HARD TO STEER. I KNEW THERE WAS SOMETHING OBVIOUSLY WRONG SO LUCKILY WE WERE CLOSE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WE CALLED THEM AND THEY SAID TO BRING IT RIGHT IN. I MUST ADMIT, I SHOULD HAVE HAD IT TOWED BUT IT WAS POURING DOWN RAIN AND I JUST WANTED TO GET MY FAMILY TO SAFETY SO I DECIDED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. IT WAS VERY SCARY, I TRIED TO TAKE A ROUTE THAT I HAD TO MAKE THE FEWEST TURNS AND THE VEHICLE BECAME HARDER AND HARDER TO STEER TO THE POINT THAT I ACTUALLY FEARED FOR THE SAFETY OF MY FAMILY. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY PROVIDED US A LOANER VEHICLE. THEY STATED THAT ONE OF THE POWER STEERING HOSES CAME OFF UNDERNEATH AND THAT IT HAD RUBBED ONTO ANOTHER BELT AND WAS NO LONGER USABLE SO THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER A PART WHICH WOULD TAKE 3-4 DAYS. SINCE THIS WAS A BRAND NEW VEHICLE AND ROUND TRIP FOR ME IS 100 MILES I WAS VERY UPSET WITH THIS. ON MONDAY (CHRISTMAS EVE) THEY CALLED AND SAID THE VEHICLE WAS READY. EVIDENTLY THEY TOOK A HOSE OFF ANOTHER VEHICLE AND PUT IT ON MINE.(WHICH RATHER BOTHERED ME BUT IT DID GET ME BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN) MY ISSUE WITH THIS IS THAT IF WE WOULD HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE UP INTO THE SNOW WE WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED AND WHO KNOWS WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT IS BEING BLOWN OFF BY NISSAN AND I WANTED TO REPORT IT! *TR
PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG IS NOT ENGAGED. INDICATOR IS ON APPROXIMATELY 50% OF THE TIME, WHEN MY 84 POUND DAUGHTER IS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THIS MEANS THAT 50% OF THE TIME, MY DAUGHTER IS SUPPOSEDLY NOT PROTECTED BY THE AIR BAG. THIS IS TROUBLESOME. THE INTERMITTENT, SEEMINGLY RANDOM NATURE OF THE INDICATOR DOES NOT INSTILL CONFIDENCE IN THE PROTECTION THAT I PAID FOR AND IS ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE. WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALER ON 12/28/12. I ASKED THE NISSAN SERVICE TECHNICIAN WHAT WEIGHT WAS REQUIRED TO ENGAGE THE AIR BAG PROTECTION, AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT ENTIRELY A WEIGHT TEST. SHE SAID THAT YOU HAVE TO SIT JUST RIGHT ON THE SEAT. THIS SEEMED RIDICULOUS. BY ALL APPEARANCE, MY PASSENGERS ALWAYS SIT IN THE NORMAL FASHION. (HOW SHOULD ONE SIT???) IN ANY CASE, ADJUSTING THEIR POSITION DID NOT SHUT OFF THE INDICATOR LIGHT. CLEARLY, 84 POUNDS SHOULD ALLOW SOMEONE TO SIT IN THE FRONT SEAT. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ODOR OF ANTI FREEZE OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE ENGINE COOLING FLUID HOSE WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED AND LATER RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE A FAILURE. THE FAILURE WAS REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10,000.
TAKATA RECALL. I HAVE RECEIVED 2 LETTERS FROM NHTSA RELATING TO MY VEHICLE HAVING AIR BAGS HAVING BEEN IDENTIFIED AS HAVING DEFECTIVE AIR BAGS.. I THINK THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE FORCED TO ISSUE A RECALL AND FIX MY VEHICLE BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED.

CAR BATTERY DIED SUDDENLY WITH NO LIGHTS OR ANYTHING ELSE LEFT ON. IT HAPPENED TWICE AND WAS EXACTLY SAME. BOTH CASES I WAS STRANDED WITH NO OTHER OPTIONS TO TOW THE CAR AND NEED TO TAKE TAXI TO GET MY FAMILY HOME, I WAS LUCKY TO HAVE ACCESS TO TAXI. DEALERS WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE AND FIX THE FAULT IN BOTH CASES AND GIVE ME LAME EXCUSE SOMETHING WAS LEFT ON. FOR ME IT'S SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS I CAN'T AFFORD TO TAKE MY FAMILY IN THIS CAR WITH NO CONFIDENCE THAT WHEN WOULD IT DIE AGAIN.
