TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR AN UNRELATED PROBLEM WHEN THEY INFORMED HIM THAT THERE WERE NUMEROUS HOLES IN THE STRUT HOUSING. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V244000 (STEERING, SUSPENSION). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. UPDATED 04/30/13*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, AFTER RECEIVING A RECALL NOTICE. THE DEALER ASKED FOR TWO DAYS TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. HOWEVER THEY RETURNED THE VEHICLE TWO HOURS LATER. THEY STATED THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE STRUT TOWER. FIVE MONTHS LATER, THE CONSUMER NOTICED DAMAGE TO THE DRIVER;S SIDE FRONT STRUT TOWER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AGAIN, WHERE THEY STATED THEY COULD PERFORM A SECOND RECALL, BUT THE CONSUMER WOULD HAVE TO CONTACT NISSAN TO RECEIVE PERMISSION. AFTER HAVING THE VEHICLE FOR TWO WEEKS, THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A CALL FROM NISSAN CUSTOMER AFFAIRS, STATING THEY WERE NOT GOING TO PERFORM A SECOND RECALL AND COVER THE COST OF THE REPAIR. THEY DID NOT GIVE THE CONSUMER AN EXPLANATION. WHEN THE CONSUMER RETURNED TO PICK UP HIS VEHICLE, HE WAS INFORMED, IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. UPDATED 06/06/13
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE LEFT ROTATOR CUFF AND AN CONCUSSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND SENT SOMEONE TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE WHO STATED THAT THE CRASH WAS NOT SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH FOR THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.

THE DEFECT WAS DUE TO LACK OF ANIT-CORROSIVE MATERIAL APPLIED AT THE TIME OF MANUFACTURING. THE CONSUMER STATED THERE WAS A KNOWN RECALL THAT ADDRESS THE ISSUES. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO RECALL CONCERNING CORROSION ISSUES *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED DURING A ROUTINE MAINTENANCE APPOINTMENT, THE CONSUMER WAS ADVISED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON HIS MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR VEHICLE. THE RECALL WAS ISSUED AS A RESULT OF A CORROSION ISSUE UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE, WHICH COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE STRUTS AND OR THE STEERING MECHANISM. THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND IT WAS DETERMINED THE EXTENT OF THE CORROSION UNDER THE VEHICLE WAS SO SEVERE THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. THE CONSUMER WAS GIVEN A LOANER VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD THAT NISSAN CORPORATE WOULD CONTACT HIM FOR A RESOLUTION. THE CONSUMER STATED WEEKS PASSED AND HE NEVER HEARD FROM NISSAN. THE CONSUMER WAS FINALLY INFORMED THAT A THIRD PARTY VENDOR WOULD INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE THIRD PARTY VENDOR DETERMINED THE VEHICLE COULD INDEED BE REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THERE WAS DIFFICULTY TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AND A REDUCTION IN THE ENGINE POWER. THE REMEDY CONSISTED OF THE REPLACEMENT OF THE REINFORCEMENT PLATE DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE DEALER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER. WHILE ENTERING A PARKING SPACE APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE CONTACT ENGAGED THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELERATED. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN AND CRASHED INTO AN UNOCCUPIED VEHICLE. THE ABS WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED THEN IMMEDIATELY, THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP WHILE EXTENSIVE FORCE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED SEVERE BODY DAMAGE. ON BRAKING, RIGHT FRONT TIRE STARTED TO SHAKE AND STEERING WELL WAS ALMOST RIPPED FROM HANDS. MECHANIC PUT ON LIFT AND RIGHT REAR A ARM ATTACHMENT POINT WAS TOTALLY RUSTED OUT. UPON INSPECTION LEFT FRONT WAS READY TO GO AS WELL. FRAME HAS NUMEROUS RUST HOLES IN IT. 10 YR OLD CAR CAN NOT BE REPAIRED. *TR

APPROXIMATELY ONE AND A HALF MONTHS LATER THE CONTACT RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V244000 (STEERING:COLUMN), WHICH WAS NOT RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000. CLUNKING NOISE HEARD WHEN STARTING TO ACCELERATE AND WHEN SLOWING DOWN (FOOT OFF ACCELERATOR) OF STOPPING. REGARDING PE11004 - MY LEFT FRONT STRUT TOWER HAS COMPLETELY FAILED. THERE IS A HEAVY AMOUNT OF CORROSION AROUND THE AREA, AND THE THIN METAL, ONCE CORRODED, RIPPED LIKE PAPER AROUND THE BASE OF THE TOWER. HANDLING OF THE VEHICLE BECAME VERY POOR, AND STEERING BECAME MORE DIFFICULT. I BELIEVE IT ALSO PUT STRESS ON THE BRAKE LINES, AS I COULD FEEL PULSING IN THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE GOING OVER BUMPS WITH THE BAD TOWER. *TR
THE DRIVERSIDE STRUT TOWER HAS BECOME UNATTACHED FROM THE FRAME. THERE IS NO RUST MARKS ANYWHERE IN THIS SECTION. THE STRUT TOWER WORE AWAY AT THE STEERING WHEEL SHAFT AND BROKE IT. I LOST ALL ABILITY TO STEER THE CAR AND WAS FORCED TO JUMP A CURB. *TR

THE FAILURE OCCURRED CONTINUOUSLY WHENEVER HE MADE A RIGHT TURN. THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V244000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT). THE CONTACT PLANNED TO NOTIFY THE DEALER TO CONFIRM WHETHER THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 155,000.
STRUT TOWER SEPERATED FROM UNIBODY AT WELD ON BOTH SIDES OF DRIVERS SIDE WHEEL WELL, CLEAN SHEAR AT WELD SEAM LIKE A DELAMINATION OF POOR WELD.
2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER SEVERELY RUSTED AT DRIVERS FRONT STRUT TOWER, SEPARATING THE STRUT FROM THE FRAME. *LN
I RECENTLY REPLACED THE SUSPENSION ON MY 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER. I SEE NOW THAT THE PATHFINDERS HAVE BEEN RECALLED IN THE NORTHERN STATES FOR THAT PROBLEM. I CALLED NISSAN AND THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT MY CAR IS NOT ON THE LIST AS I DID NOT PURCHASE IT UP NORTH. I HAVE DRIVEN IT TO CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA FREQUENTLY AS MY DAUGHTER ATTENDED SCHOOL UP THERE. I COST ME APPROXIMATELY $700. FOR THIS REPAIR. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE FOR WORK AND COULD NOT KEEP THE CAR ON THE ROAD AS IT FISHTAILED ALL OVER. I IMMEDIATELY TOOK IT TO THE SHOP AND WAS ADVISED MY SUSPENSION HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO RUST. *TR
I HAVE A 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER. IT SWAY FROM SIDE TO SIDE WHILE I'M DRIVING. IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE FAST OR SLOW. FIRST, I CHANGED THE FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER. NOT MUCH IMPROVEMENT, THEN THE BALL JOINT. IT IMPROVED ABOUT HALFWAY. BUT NOW AFTER ABOUT A MONTH, IT'S EVEN WORSE. I DID SOME RESEARCH IN THE INTERNET AND SURPRISE, I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. IT LOOKS LIKE A LOT OF PATHFINDER OWNERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. I KNOW MY CAR IS OLD BUT QUITE A FEW HAVE THE SAME ISSUE BEFORE THEY HIT 100K MILES. I THINK THIS IS A DESIGN PROBLEM OR PARTS PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE RECALL. SO FAR, I DIDN'T SEE ANY DEATH OR ACCIDENT REPORTED BECAUSE OF THIS BUT I'M SURE IT'S BOUND TO HAPPEN. IT'S DANGEROUS DRIVING THIS THING AROUND WITH THE SWAYING SPECIALLY IN HIGH SPEED. *TR
HAVE A 2001 PATHFINDER SWAYS FROM SIDE TO SIDE FROM THE REAR AT 55 MILES I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE THE SHOCKS BUT NOW I FOUND THAT ALL 2001 PATHFINDER DO THIS AT THAT SPEED. WHY DOES HAS IT NOT BEING RECALL. SAME VEHICLE ENGINE LIGHT DOES NOT TURN HAVE REPLACED ALL KINDS OF SENSORS AND STILL LIGHT DOES NOT TURN OFF. *TR

WHAT HE FOUND, AND CONFIRMED BY 3 OTHER INDEPENDENT SHOPS, WAS THE UNIBODY FRONT END ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE HAS ROTTED OUT. BOTH FRONT STRUT TOWERS REPAIRED IAW RECALL NTB11-064 R1107 FRAME DAMAGE/CORROSION NOT REPAIRED. NISSAN DEALERSHIP DID CONFIRM DAMAGE BUT STATED THAT RECALL NTB11-064 R1107 DOES NOT ADDRESS/INCLUDE CORROSION DAMAGE TO FRAME. INITIAL REPAIR SPECIALIST ADVISED NOT OPERATING VEHICLE DUE IMMINENT FAILURE CAUSING LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL. WILL CONTACT NISSAN USA. *TR

CONSUMER WRITES TO INFORM THAT WHILE IN CRUISE CONTROL VEHICLE GRADUALLY ACCELERATED TO 91 MILES PER HOUR, WHICH WAS APPROXIMATELY 25 M.P.H ABOVE THE CRUISE CONTROL SETTING *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED AN ATTEMPT TO BRAKE HAD LITTLE EFFECT. AFTER SWITCHING THE GEAR IN NEUTRAL AND APPLYING BOTH FEET HARD ON THE BRAKE, SHE WAS FINALLY ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND ULTIMATELY STOPPED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE THROTTLE CABLE FLIPPED OVER THE TOP OF THE BUTTERFLY VALVE. HE ADJUSTED THE TENSION FOR LESS SLACK TO KEEP THE CABLE FROM BOUNDING UP INSIDE THE THROTTLE BODY. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE DEALER OFFERED TO REPAIR IT AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE AS THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WHEN THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE NOTICED A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE FROM THE VEHICLE EXTERIOR. HE THEN INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DISCOVERED THAT THE ODOR WAS COMING FROM THE FILLER TUBE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP ON FOUR DIFFERENT OCCASIONS WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR INTERMITTENTLY SO THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE HE WAS INFORMED THE STRUT TOWER WAS SEPARATED FROM THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 135,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT STRUT TOWER FAILED AND SEPARATED. THE STEERING SHAFT BROKE AS A RESULT. A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE IS PRESENT AFTER FILLING UP AND LASTS UNTIL THE TANK IS APPROXIMATELY 3/4 FULL. THIS PROBLEM BEGAN 2 WEEKS AGO. IT OCCURS EVERY TIME THE TANK IS FILLED. THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED. THE NHTSA WEBSITE INDICATED THAT A RECALL WAS ISSUED IN 2007 FOR THIS PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER'S REPORT DATE IS 9-12-07. THE VEHICLE IS A 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER AND WAS ORIGINALLY SOLD IN NEW YORK. I AM THE SECOND OWNER AND PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2004 IN NORTH CAROLINA. CONSEQUENCES OF THE DEFECT ARE POSSIBLE GASOLINE FIRE AND TOTAL DESTRUCTION OF THE VEHICLE AND DEATH OF ALL PASSENGERS. I NOTICED A LITTLE PULL IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN TAKING A TURN, SO I STOPPED IN TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AN WAS ADVISED THAT THE SHOCK TOWER HAS FAILED. THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT NISSAN HAS KNOW ABOUT AN HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT IT. I DID CONTACT NISSAN AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD PAY $1100. TOWARDS THE REPAIR, WHICH WAS $2100.00, I TAILED THEM THIS IS A SAFETY DEFECT AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED. LUCKY FOR ME AN OTHER PEOPLE I WASN'T DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AN HAD THIS FAIL COMPLETELY. THE WHEEL WOULD HAVE FALLEN OFF AN HAVE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THEY KNOW THERE IS A PROBLEM AND HAVE DECIDED NOT TO TAKE ACTION. THE DRIVER SIDE STRUT TOWER ON MY 2001 PATHFINDER COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. THE STRUT TOWER WAS DISCONNECTED FROM THE BODY DUE TO THE RUST. WHEN THE TOWER FINALLY LET GO, THE STEERING WAS AFFECTED CAUSING ISSUES STEERING THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM WAS ONLY ON THE DRIVER SIDE. THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE DRIVER SIDE UNDER CARRIAGE OF THE VEHICLE, WHEREAS THE PASSENGER SIDE IS NOT AS BAD. THE DISCONNECTION OF THE TOWER CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END SUSPENSION COMPONENTS.
I PURCHASED A 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER IN 2004. THE BOSE 6-DISC CHANGER IMMEDIATELY FAILED. THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRED IT BECAUSE IT FELL WITHIN THE 30-DAY WARRANTY PERIOD. IT WORKED FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS AFTER THAT AND THEN I GOT AN ERROR MESSAGE ONE DAY WHEN I TRIED TO LOAD A CD AND IT HASN'T WORKED SINCE. 2001 NISSAN PATHFINDER HAS EXPERIENCED TWO EVENTS WHERE THE BRAKES HAVE MALFUNCTIONED. THE FIRST EVENT INVOLVED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ACTIVATING WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 45 MPH WITHOUT THE DRIVER PULLING UP ON THE EMERGENCY HANDLE. IMMEDIATELY UPON THE BRAKE LOCKING UP, THE DRIVER PULLED UP AND DOWN ON THE HANDLE AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE THANKFULLY RELEASED ITSELF.
