AC/ FAN MAKES LOUD NOISE WHEN TURNED ON UNABLE TO USE BECAUSE NOISE IS SO BAD- NEED TO REPLACE COOLING FAN- NEEDS TO BE COVERED BY NISSAN AS THIS IS CLEARLY A DEFECT
WHEN MY 2017 PATHFINDER GOT TO ABOUT 40,000 MILES (JANUARY OR FEBRUARY 2020), IT STARTED MAKING A LOUD CLANKING NOISE, COMING FROM BEHIND THE RADIATOR. UPON INSPECTION AT THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS INFORMED THE COOLING FAN WAS LOOSE, CAN'T REMEMBER THE PART THAT HOLDS IT IN PLACE, BUT IT WAS BUSTED...OF COURSE IT WAS! MY WARRANTY EXPIRED AT 36,000, SO THE REPAIRS WERE NOT COVERED. IT WAS SOMEWHERE BETWEEN $900-$1000 FOR REPAIRS. AND I COULDN'T DRIVE IT UNTIL IT WAS REPAIRED. I WAS NOTICEABLY UPSET AND ASKED WHY THIS WOULD BE HAPPENING TO A NEW VEHICLE, AND WAS IT NORMAL FOR SOMETHING LIKE THIS TO BREAK THIS SOON? THE SERVICE GUY AGREED THAT IT PROBABLY SHOULDN'T HAVE WORN OUT THIS SOON, AND WAS ABLE TO FIND A COUPON ON THEIR WEBSITE THAT HE APPLIED TO MY BILL. YAY. I'M GREATLY DISAPPOINTED TO BE SEEING SO MANY OTHERS WHO HAD THIS HAPPEN TO THEM AS WELL. THIS IS CLEARLY FAULTY PARTS AND I WOULD LIKE A REFUND FOR THE REPAIRS I HAD TO MAKE. *TR
WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR IS ENGAGED EITHER FOR AIR CONDITIONING OR DEFROST IT ACTIVATES A SECONDARY COOLING FAN ON THE RADIATOR. THIS FAN STARTED MAKING NOISE (GROWLING) AND VIBRATING. I INITIALLY THOUGHT IT WAS THE AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR. UPON PRESENTING THIS ISSUE TO THE DEALER THE SERVICE TECH. SAID IT WAS PROBABLY THE COOLING FAN. HE ALREADY KNEW BEFORE HE EXAMINED THE CAR. ONCE THEY EXAMINED THE CAR THEY CONFIRMED THAT IS WAS THE FAN. COST TO ME OVER $1000.00 THIS NOISE HAPPENED ANYTIME ANYPLACE WHEN THE ENGINE WAS ON AND THE COMPRESSOR ENGAGED.
THE VEHICLE CRANKS UP BY ITSELF AFTER THE DOORS ARE LOCKED AND THE BACK UP CAMERA DOES NOT TURN OFF WHEN THE GEAR IS PUT BACK IN DRIVE. I HAVE A COUPLE OF VIDEOS BUT CAN'T ATTACH ON HERE.
ON 1/9 I SUDDENLY NOTED A LOUD, SHAKING, VIBRATING NOISE IN MY 2017 PATHFINDER. I IMMEDIATELY ATTEMPTED TO GET TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT IT WAS SO BAD I STOPPED AT ANOTHER REPAIR SHOP ON THE WAY. I WAS TOLD THAT IT NEED A NEW COOLING FAN ASSEMBLY DUE TO BAD BEARINGS, TO THE TUNE OF $850! SEEMS TO BE LOTS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS IN LOW MILEAGE NEW PATHFINDERS. MINE HAS 64,500 MILES. I WAS TOLD IT WAS DANGEROUS TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE AS THE VEHICLE COULD OVERHEAT OR IT COULD DAMAGE THE RADIATOR IF IT CAME APART WHILE DRIVING.
WITH ENGINE RUNNING, THE ELECTRIC COOLING FANS WOBBLE WHEN THEY COME ON, MOST LIKELY DUE TO WORN BUSHING/BEARING. THE FANS DON'T APPEAR TO BE HITTING ANYTHING BUT MAKE A LOUD AUDIBLE TAPPING NOISE. DRIVER SIDE FAN SEEMS WORSE THAN PASSENGER SIDE. THE FANS COME ON AS SOON AS I TURN ON THE CABIN FAN TO CIRCULATE AIR; THIS IS 45 DEGREE F WEATHER AND "HEAT" NOT A/C. INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED BY OTHER OWNERS.
I PULLED OUT TO TURN LEFT ON A FOUR LANE CITY STREET, ENTERED INTO THE FIRST 2 LANES (TRAFFIC COMING FROM DRIVER'S SIDE) WHEN THE CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING AND JUST SAT MOTIONLESS WHILE CARS IN BOTH LANES WERE MOVING TOWARD ME. SPEED LIMIT ON THAT STREET IS 50 MPH. I MAINTAINED PRESSURE ON THE GAS, AND EVENTUALLY THE CAR BEGAN TO MOVE. THE NEXT MORNING, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE BRANDON FLORIDA NISSAN DEALER AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE "REBUILT". THIS IS A 2017 PATHFINDER WITH 45000 MILES.
ON THURSDAY 12/26 MY CAR STARTED MAKING A CRAZY SOUND. BY 12/27 I WAS TOLD BY NTB THAT THE COOLING FAN WAS IN HORRIBLE CONDITION. THEY HAD TO REPLACE IT AND THAT IS THE 3RD ONE THAT THEY HAD REPLACED. THIS IS A 2017 NISSAN PATHFINDER WITH 50,000 MILES. NTB WAS SURPRISED BY THE FAN CONDITION WITH IT BEING A FAIRLY NEW CAR.
THE CAR BEGAN MAKING A LOUD BUZZING NOISE AFTER REACHING 59,000 MILES. THE BUZZING IS SO LOUD IT CAN BE HEARD INDOORS AND ALL AROUND THE CAR. THE DEALERSHIP NOTED THE POWER STEERING PUMP SHOULD BE REPLACED AND ADVISED TO CALL NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS SIX DAYS LATER TO INFORM ME THAT THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE POWER STEERING PUMP AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY THE $3,000.00 ESTIMATE THAT THE DEALERSHIP PROVIDED. NISSAN'S RESPONSE TO THE PROBLEM WAS YOU ARE TO FAR OUT OF WARRANTY TO ASSIST YOU. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE DEFECTIVE POWER STEERING PUMP COULD CREATE A HAZARDOUS DRIVING SITUATION WHEN I AM TRANSPORTING MY FAMILY. THE SOUND GETS LOUDER AND LOUDER THE LONGER YOU DRIVE THE VEHICLE. IT SOUNDS LIKE AN BUZZING ALARM IS GOING OFF AND THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG.
I'VE HAD MY PATHFINDER FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AND NOW THE COOLANT FAN HAS STARTED FLAPPING AWFUL. IT STARTED YESTERDAY AT MY CHILDS SCHOOL DROP OFF. ANYTIME I HAVE MY HEAT ON OR A FEW MILES DOWN THE ROAD IT IS MAKING A HORRID SOUND.. I CALLED NISSAN AND THEY SAID IT WOULD COST OVER $1000 FOR A FAN AND LABOR? IS THIS FAN MADE OUT OF GOLD? IF IT ONLY LASTS A YEAR AND A HALF, THIS IS REDICULOUS. I'VE SEEN A LOT OF PEOPLE ON FORUMS COMPLAIN AND THEY REQUESTED WE CONTACT THIS WEBSITE. AS A SINGLE MOTHER OF 2 AND CHOSE THIS BRAND FOR MY FAMILY, I CANT SEE MYSELF PAYING $1000 EVERY OTHER YEAR FOR A PLASTIC PART THAT PROBABLY IS MADE FOR LESS THAN $50. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS.
COOLING FAN ON MOST NISSAN PATHFINDER SUV'S (MODELS 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019) SEEMS TO BE GOING BAD AROUND 36,000 MILES. THERE HAS BEEN A WIDESPREAD COMPLAINT ABOUT THIS FROM OTHER PATHFINDER CUSTOMERS. SOME CUSTOMERS EVEN REPORTED HAVING TO REPLACE THE COOLING FAN TWICE IN LESS THAN 60,000 MILES. SURPRISINGLY THIS HASN'T BEEN RECALLED YET OR NISSAN HASN'T DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE ENGINE COOLING FAN ASSEMBLY FAILED AT 36,000 MILES (RIGHT WHEN WARRANTY EXPIRES) AND IT SOUNDED LIKE RAPID FIRE GOING OFF IN THE FRONT GRILL. AFTER DRIVING A WHILE YOU CAN SMELL AS IF SOMETHING IS BURNING UNDER THE HOOD AND THE BURNING SMELL MAKES IT INSIDE THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. YOU CANNOT DRIVE THE CAR FOR TOO LONG BEFORE THE BURNING SMELL STARTS BOTHERING YOU AND GIVING YOU HEADACHES. ONCE THE COOLING FAN GOES BAD, IT ALSO SPILLS SOME SHORT OF LIQUID IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHICH CAN CAUSE THE BURNING SMELL TO STILL BE AROUND FOR 1-2 WEEK EVEN AFTER GETTING THE COOLING FAN REPLACED. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO NISSAN SERVICE CENTER, THE LADY THERE KNEW EXACTLY WHAT THE ISSUE WAS WITHOUT EVEN OPENING THE HOOD. SHE SAID "YES YOUR COOLING FAN HAS GONE BAD AND WILL NEED REPLACING, WE HAD SEVERAL OF THESE WITH THE SAME ISSUE" I MENTIONED TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT THIS WAS A WIDESPREAD ISSUE, BUT THEY DIDN'T DO MUCH ABOUT IT. THEY REFERRED ME TO THEIR REGIONAL OFFICE, WHICH I CONTACTED AND THEY SAID THEY AREN'T ABLE TO DO ANYTHING UNLESS A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUES BY NHTSA. The contact owns a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 MPH, the hood was raising up but did not open all the way. The contact stated that she was able to see the hood moving up and down. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that she had informed the dealer of the issue and was informed that the issue was normal. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact was relating the failure to an unknown recall for 2013-2016 Nissan Pathfinders. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 35,000.
3 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASING MY VEHICLE BRAND NEW WITH 0 MILES THE BACK SEAT WARMERS STOPPED WORKING AND THE BACK LIFT GATE STOPPED WORKING. THE HATCH HAD A RECALL ON ELECTRICAL. THAT WAS REPLACED BUT DID NOT STOP THE ISSUE. THE LIFT GATE CONTINUED TO BE OFF AND ON WITH ITS FUNCTION. AT 38K MILES WHILE DRIVING MY CAR SHUT DOWN WITH COMPLETE POWER LOSS WITH A NO KEY DETECTION. CAR WAS TOWED, NO CODE THROWN, BATTER WAS CORRODED AFTER JUST BEING SERVICED 3 DAYS PRIOR WITH 0 CORROSION. WINDOWS WERE SLOW TO ROLL DOWN JUMPED BATTERY AND WAS THEN JUST REPLACED. THE ISSUES CONTINUED WITH WINDOWS BEING SLOW AND THEN TO THE POINT I WAS HAVING TO FORCE AND ASSIST THE WINDOW MANUALLY TO ROLL THEM UP. AGAIN MY CAR WOULD NOT START 3 MONTHS LATER. THE CAR WAS JUMPED AT HOME. 6 MONTHS AFTER INITIAL LOSS OF POWER IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON THE INTERSTATE WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE GOING 75 MILES AN HOUR DURING 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC. COMPLETE ELECTRICAL FAILURE RESULTING IN HAVING TO PULL OVER TO INSIDE SHOULDER. COULD NOT BE JUMPED AND WAS TAKEN TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP. THIS MAKES THE 7TH TIME AT A DEALERSHIP WITH ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS WITH NO CODES AND A 24 HOUR DIAGNOSTIC TEST ADMINISTERED. MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF MY CHILDREN WERE AT HIGH RISK MULTIPLE TIMES AND WAS TRAUMATIC TO ALL PARTIES INVOLVED. *TR
WHEN THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING AND GETS UP TO TEMPERATURE, THE COOLING FAN TRIES TO KICK IN BUT DOESN'T SPIN THE FAN. IT JUST MAKES A LOUD CLICKING NOISE LIKE THE INTERNAL COMPONENTS ARE TURNING BUT THE FAN DOESN'T TURN. MY WIFE FIRST NOTICED IT WHEN THE CAR WAS STATIONARY IN TRAFFIC. I WAS ABLE TO RECREATE IT IN MY GARAGE, WITH THE VEHICLE STATIONARY. I HAVE BEEN LOOKING ONLINE AND IT IS APPARENTLY A COMMON ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL.
the low beams are dangerously dim, for a car of just 4 years old with the original OEM Lights, the light bulbs were replaced, and the lights are still low, I have to use the high beams in order to see anything.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 37879548. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND USAGE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000.

MY NISSAN PATHFINDER 2017 S HAS 38K MILES AND STARTED NOISE ON ENGINE/AC COOLING FAN. IT SOUNDS LIKE FAN BEARING IS MAKING NOISE. I THINK THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT.
ENGINE HOOD VIBRATES AT SPEED AT ABOVE 55 MPH. I CAN SEE IT MOVES UP AND DOWN FROM DRIVER SEAT.
OCTOBER 2019, I NOTICED A LOUD CLANKING NOISE ON OUR 2017 NISSAN PATHFINDER. I DO NOT LIVE NEAR DEALERSHIP, SO WE CALLED AND DESCRIBED SYMPTOMS. THE SERVICER REPORTED THAT WHILE HE COULDN'T DIAGNOSE WITHOUT SEEING THE VEHICLE, GUESSED OUR RADIATOR FAN NEEDED REPLACED DUE TO BEING A COMMON PROBLEM, NOT UNDER WARRANTY AT APPROXIMATELY 65K ($1800 EST.) COOLING FAN REPLACED BY LOCAL MECHANIC FOR APPROXIMATELY $600 WITH AN AFTERMARKET PART. THIS FAN IS IMPERATIVE IN KEEPING THE TEMPERATURE REGULATED AND CAN CAUSE FURTHER DAMAGE AND SAFETY CONCERNS. WHICH LEADS ME TO MY NEXT COMPLAINT. SUMMER 2020. I TAKE MY PATHFINDER TO MY MECHANIC (BRAKES, TIRES, OIL CHANGE). UPON PICK-UP, HE INFORMS OF GRITTY OIL THAT HE HAS NEVER NOTED IN PREVIOUS OIL CHANGES AND RECOMMENDS I CHANGE IT AGAIN, BEFORE MY ROUTINE 3-5K. I TAKE IT BACK A MONTH LATER, AUGUST 2020 FOR INSPECTION, OILED CHANGED AGAIN. WITHIN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNS ON. THE CODE IS READING A FUEL PRESSURE TEMP SENSOR. MECHANIC IS UNABLE TO LOCATE PART, EVEN FROM DEALERSHIP. I BEGIN HAVING ISSUES WITH ENGINE SURGING WHILE DRIVING/IDLING, RATTLING ENGINE, STALLING AT LIGHTS, ISSUES STARTING INCLUDING HESITANCY FOLLOWED BY REVVING. OVER TWO WEEKS, I WAS EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT FLASHING INDICATOR LIGHTS. NO MECHANIC, AUTO PARTS WAS ABLE TO FIND A CODE. I CALLED MY CLOSEST DEALERSHIP THE LAST WEEK OF AUGUST AND RECEIVED AN APPOINTMENT FOR 9/14, 3 WEEKS AWAY. I GREW CONCERNED WITH MY FAMILIES SAFETY EACH DRIVE AND BEGAN REACHING OUT TO OTHER DEALERS (2+ HRS AWAY). MY PATHFINDER WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER 9/4/20. DIAGNOSED WITH TIMING CHAIN, GUIDE, TENSIONER ISSUES. ESTIMATE $3100. IT HAS BEEN THERE 2 WEEKS TODAY AND THEY ARE STILL UNABLE TO GET PARTS NEEDED FOR REPAIR AND ARE UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHEN THIS WILL HAPPEN. MY FAMILIES ONLY VEHICLE, LESS THAN 3 YEARS OLD, 75,000 MILES. NISSAN REFUSES TO HELP AT ALL.
BREAK FLUIDS HAS LEAKED OUT THREE TIMES DURING LAST 7 MONTHS SINCE I BOUGHT IT IN FEB 2019 FROM CARMAX. I AM SECOND OWNER OF THIS VEHICLES. ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE BREAK FLUIDS DISAPPEARS. THE LOW BREAK FLUIDS LIGHT APPEARS, AND ONE TIME THE BREAKS FAIL TO WORK. I HAD TO PULL OVER, AND USE TAXI TO GO AND GET REPLACEMENT BREAK FLUIDS.*DT*JB

C, ATHENS, GA 30606, 706-410-1914) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THE CONTACT HAD TO PAY A $50 DEDUCTIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR INTERMITTENTLY WITHOUT WARNING AFTER THE REPAIR. THE CONTACT RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND A FAILURE WITH THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. CAR CONSTANTLY STUTTERS, WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IT FEELS LIKE WHEN YOU RUN OUT OF GAS, I'VE HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THE MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR WHICH IS UNRESOLVED AND UNABLE TO BE DUPLICATED WHEN NEEDED TO BE FOUND. THE 2 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASE THE FAN WENT OUT. I'VE REPLACED THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR AND STILL SAME ISSUE. THE TOUCH SCREEN GOES BLACK AND ALSO IS NO LONGER WORKING. ALL PROBLEMS STARTED RIGHT AFTER WARRANTY ENDED. I'VE BEEN STRANDED MULTIPLE TIMES IN DIFFERENT CITIES. WHEN THE CAR IS STATIONARY AND ON IT BLOWS OUT WHITE SMOKE AFTER A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF TIME. I'M SCARED TO PULL OUT IN TRAFFIC BECAUSE THE HESITATION AND THE FEELING OF IT GOING TO LOSE POWER.
WHENEVER I ACCELERATE ON STREET FROM 10-30 MPH CAR JERKS/STUTTERS DURING ACCELERATION, ALSO WHEN I RELEASE THE GAS PEDAL CAR SLOWS DOWN AND LIGHTLY JERKS
I PURCHASED MY 2017 NISSAN PATHFINDER AND HAVE ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE MY REAR BRAKES AND ALL OF MY TIRES. I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE 25000 MILES AND WAS TOLD IT WAS DUE TO NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. I'VE HAD NUMEROUS VEHICLES AND NEVER HAD TO REPLACE BRAKES OR TIRES WITH SUCH LOW MILEAGE. OBVIOUSLY THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG BECAUSE I AM SEEING THE SAME COMPLAINT FOR OTHER OWNERS. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED IN SEPT 2019 WITH LESS THAN 24K MILES AND I HELD OFF REPAIRING THE BRAKES UNTIL MARCH 2019. EITHER WAY A BRAND NEW VEHICLE WITH THAT MILEAGE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO HAVE THOSE REPAIRS
WHILE DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON GOING 72 MPH THE FEB FRONT EMERGENCY BRAKING SHUT OFF AND CAUSED THE CRUISE CONTROL TO KICK OFF ALMOST CAUSING A WRECK DUE TO THE SUDDEN DECREASE IN SPEED THE CAR BEHIND ME ALMOST REAR ENDED ME. THERE IS NO WAY TO DISABLE THE FEB AND STILL USE CRUISE CONTROL.
WHENEVER I'M DRIVING THE CAR BETWEEN 30-40 MPH THEN RELEASING THE GAS PEDAL, THE ENGINER MAKING A THUD AND THEN CREATE A GRINDING NOISE. THE PROBLEM IS CONCERNING ME BECAUSE I'M PLANNING TO TOW MY NEW TRAVEL TRAILER WITH THIS PATHFINDER AND WHOS KNOW WHAT HAPPEND WITH THIS ENGINE WHEN I TOW MY TRAILER ON FREEWAY. I WANT NISSAN TO EXPLAIN WHAT'S HAPPENED TO THE CAR AND WHAT IS THE CAUSE. THE ANWSER, 'IT'S TOTALLY NORMAL' IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. I'VE DRIVING LOTS OF DIFF CAR LIKE HONDA, TOYOTA, FORD, MURANO, ETC. MANY DRIVERS WHO HAS A 2015-2017 NISSAN PATHFINDER HAS BEEN HAVING AN ISSUE WITH THE COOLING FAN ASSEMBLY GOING OUT AROUND 45K MILES. NISSAN DEALERSHIPS ARE SAYING THIS IS A TYPICAL ISSUES BECAUSE OF THE TYPE OF FANS THAT ARE ORGINALLY INSTALLED. I THINK IT IS HORRIBLE TO MAKE AN CONSUMER PAY $900 FOR A MANUFACTURING ISSUE THAT CAUSES THE CAR TO SHAKE AND RATTLE BADLY WHILE MAKING A VERY LOUD WHILE THE A/C IS ON AND GETS WORSE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IDLE WHETHER THE A/C IS ON OR NOT. NOTHING ABOUT THAT SOUNDS SAFE OR FAIR. I LIVE IN MISSISSIPPI WHERE THE TEMPERATURE IS VERY HIGH AND SHOULDN'T HAVE TO DRIVE IN HORRIBLE CONDITION DUE TO AM ENGINEER DEFAULT.
OCCASIONALLY, THE NAVIGATION SCREEN GOES BLANK WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PUT ON DRIVE AND STAYS BLANK FOR A FEW MINUTES WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STILL MOVING AND THE RADIO STATION STILL ON AND TALKING AS NORMAL. THIS HAPPENS OCCASIONALLY, MOST RECENTLY JULY 5, 2019 AND HAS OCCURRED IN 2018 SEVERAL TIMES.
START UP MY NISSAN PATHFINDER 2017 AND START DRIVING ON THE STREET. THEN I TURN ON MY A/C AND THEN I HEARD LOUD NOISE COMING FROM MY ENGINE. IT SOUND LIKE SOMETHING WAS LOOSE AND HITTING AGAINST SOMETHING IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I PULL OVER TO SEE WHAT WAS GOING ON. IT SEEM LIKE THE COOLING FAN WAS LOOSING AND WOBBLING. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND TURN OUT TO A COMMON ISSUE FOR NISSAN PATHFINDER 2014-2017 FROM 30K TO 50K MILES. IT FEEL REALLY UNSAFE DRIVING WITH FAULTY COOLING FAN.
THE ENGINE COOLING FAN CLUTCH ASSEMBLY FAILED AT 47,822 AND IT SOUNDED LIKE RAPID FIRE GOING OFF IN THE FRONT GRILL. THE IPDM WAS REPLACED ON THIS VEHICLE ON 04_10_2019, WITH RIGHT AT 50,000 MILES. VEHICLE WAS TOWED IN AND WOULDN'T TURN OFF. CREST NISSAN IN FRISCO, TX PULLED BOTH BATTERY CABLES, AND THEN PULLED THE WIRING HARNESS OUT OF THE BACK OF THE IPDM MODULE. THEY REPLACED THE IPDM MODULE AT THIS TIME. AFTER THEY DID THIS IS WHEN THE FOLLOWING ISSUES STARTED OCCURRING. WE BACK OUT, TURN THE WHEELS TO THE LEFT OR RIGHT, AND THEN PLACE THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE. AT THIS POINT WE HAVE TURNED THE WHEELS BACK TO A CENTER POSITION AND GO TO ACCELERATE TO MOVE FORWARD. THE ENGINE RPM DOESN'T INCREASE AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT MOVE. THE TRUCK IS RUNNING, BUT NOTHING HAPPENS. AFTER 3-5 SECONDS, THE TRUCKS ACCELERATOR PEDAL WILL ENGAGE AND THE TRUCK WILL PROCCED FORWARD. OVER 70% OF THE TIME, AFTER THIS OCCURS, THE TRUCK EXHIBITS A LOSS OF POWER AND A LOUD "ROAR" COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. IF YOU PULL INTO A PARKING LOT, TURN THE TRUCK OFF, AND GO INSIDE FOR A FEW MINUTES, THE TRUCK WILL START RIGHT UP AND THE LOUD "ROAR" IS NOW GONE. HOWEVER, THERE ARE TIMES WHEN YOU GO TO START THE VEHICLE (USING THE START/STOP BUTTON ON THE DASH) AND THE ENGINE SOUNDS LIKE IT TURNS HALF A ROTATION, AND THEN STOPS. APPROXIMATELY 1 - 1.5 SECONDS LATER, THE ENGINE WILL CONTINUE TO TURN OVER AND THE TRUCK WILL START. THE TECHNICIANS AT CREST NISSAN ORIGINALLY TOLD US THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND THE ISSUE AND THAT OUR VEHICLE WAS READY FOR PICKUP ON 07/11. MY WIFE AND I WENT TO THE DEALER, GOT INTO THE TRUCK, AND WITHIN FIVE MINUTES DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM. WE WENT BACK INTO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT, ASKED BILLY TO RIDE WITH US AND HE SAW THE PROBLEM. HE THEN KEPT THE VEHICLE AND SHOWED THE TECHNICIANS IN THE MORNING. WE STILL DON'T HAVE OUR TRUCK BACK AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO TO FIX.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HER HUSBAND WAS CROSSING AN INTERSECTION AT 35 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE WAS DRIVING RECKLESS AND DROVE PAST A LEFT TURN STOP LIGHT CAUSING THAT VEHICLE TO CRASH INTO THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. ON IMPACT, THE VEHICLE'S AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY, NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED EITHER. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HIS NECK, BACK, LEFT ELBOW AND BOTH KNEES. THE FRONT PASSENGER SUSTAINED NECK, BACK AND LEFT SHOULDER INJURIES. BOTH PARTIES WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WHERE THEY WERE TREATED FOR THEIR INJURIES. THE WHEREABOUTS OF THE OTHER DRIVER WERE UNKNOWN. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THERE WERE NO RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. *BF*JB

OWNERS ARE SPENDING $1,000 ON AVERAGE TO CORRECT AN ISSUE THAT IS THE DEALERS FAULT. AND IN MANY CASES THE REPAIR HAS TO BE DONE AGAIN BECAUSE THE REPLACEMENT PARTS HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER KNOWS IT. I MIGHT VENTURE A GUESS THAT THEY PURPOSEFULLY USED INFERIOR PARTS THAT WOULD NECESSITATE REPAIR, AT CONSUMER EXPENSE.

TECH RIGHT AWAY SAID IT THE RADIATOR FAN SECONDARY BUSHING IS GONE BAD AND NEED TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE FAN ASSEMBLY WITH SHROUD, WHICH COSTS $950 (550 FOR PARTS AND 400 FOR LABOR). I WAS TOLD VEHICLE IS STILL DRIVABLE AND ITS SECONDARY FAN THAT GOES BAD WHICH WON'T KICK IN UNTILL VEHICLE GETS REALLY HOT (SUMMER). FOUND IT ONLINE THAT THESE FANS GO BAD QUICKLY ON PATHFINDERS AND IS A KNOWN ISSUE. I AM WONDERING WHY THERE ARE NO RECALLS OF THESE FANS AS THEY FAIL SO PREMATURELY, SOME TIMES THEY HAVE TO BE REPLACED 2 TIMES WITHIN 50K MILES.

AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE WITH A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH AND AFTER TALKING TO THE DEALERSHIP, THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD ISSUE WITH THE PATHFINDER WHICH NISSAN REFUSES TO ADDRESS. MY DEALER ADVISED THAT THEY HAD REPAIRED THREE OF THESE ON THE SAME DAY I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN ALONE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE WHICH NISSAN IS TAKING NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR. IF THIS WERE TO HAPPEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE RESULTS COULD CERTAINTY BE DEADLY.

SHOULD THE FAN CEASE TO FUNCTION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THE ENGINE MAY OVERHEAT WHICH MAY CAUSE IT TO SEIZE POSSIBILITY CAUSING A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT. RISKING NOT ONLY LIFE AND LIMB OF THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS OF MY VEHICLE, BUT THOSE OTHER TRAVELERS ON THE HIGHWAYS AS WELL AS EMERGENCY RESPONDERS TO THE DISASTROUS ACCIDENT.
