My vehicle is experiencing the issue under Recall NHTSA ID 12V076000: fuel supply issue that could cause engine stalling. Specifically, due to a programming error, the fuel pump might not supply enough fuel to the engine when driving at slow speeds or idling downhill with a ¼ tank or less of fuel.
The contact owns a 2011 Nissan Quest. The contact stated while attempting to park the vehicle, the vehicle stalled without warning. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local mechanic but was not diagnosed or repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V076000 (Electrical System, Fuel System, Gasoline) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWN A 2011 NISSAN QUEST. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND ATTEMPTING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL. THE CONTACT STATED NO WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED SHE CONTINUED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND 20 MINUTES LATER EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING UPHILL. THE CONTACT CALLED NISSAN OF SALEM (2755 MISSION ST SE, SALEM, OR 97302, (503) 581-3849) AND ABC NISSAN (1300 E CAMELBACK RD, PHOENIX, AZ 85014, (602) 682-4468) AND THE DEALERS WERE MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. UPON INVESTIGATION, THE CONTACT ASSOCIATED THE FAILURE WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V076000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 159,000.
WHEN THE VAN HAS 1/4 OR LESS OF GAS AND IS ON AN SLIGHT INCLINE. THE VAN WILL NOT START ONLY WILL START AGAIN WHEN YOU PUT IN 5 GALLONS OF GAS. I HAVE DROVE THIS VAN LIKE THIS FOR ALMOST A YEAR MAKING SURE IT IS HALF TO FULL TANK OF GAS. NOW I AM HAVING PROBLEMS EVEN WITH THE TANK FULL GOING UP INCLINES WANTING TO STALL EVEN WITH THE GAS PETAL PUSHED ITS NOT SENDING THE SIGNAL TO THE FUEL.
MY 2011 NISSAN QUEST, WHILE DRIVING MY VAN THE GAS PEDDLE DOESN'T SEEM TO RESPOND AT TIMES. I WAS ALMOST HIT ON THE HIGHWAY DRIVING ST 65 ON A 70 MPH, STEPPING ON THE GAS THE PEDDLE WOULD NOT RESPOND AND THE SPEED STARTED TO DECLINE. WHILE DRIVING TRYING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN STEPPING ON THE GAS THE VAN WOULDN'T RESPOND.
THERE HAVE BEEN 3 INSTANCES WHERE OUR VAN HAS STALLED SITTING ON AN INCLINE WITH A QUARTER OR SO OF GAS LEFT. THERE IS AN OPEN RECALL FOR THE 2011 QUEST BUT MINE DOESN'T FALL UNDER THE SAME MANUFACTURE DATE RANGE. AFTER RESEARCHING, I FOUND THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A WIDE SPREAD PROBLEM WITH THE QUEST OVER SEVERAL YEARS NOT JUST 2011. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM RESEARCH AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THAT BEFORE. THEY SUGGESTED PURCHASING A FUEL SENDING UNIT TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IF IT WAS JUST A PROBLEM WITH THE GAUGE THEN WHY WOULD THE CAR STALL ON A HILL WITH PLENTY OF GAS LEFT? I AM WORRIED ABOUT WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF I AM ACTUALLY TRAVELING DOWN A HILL AT SPEED AND MY CAR STALLS.
OUR NISSAN QUEST HAS BEEN STALLING OUT WITH LESS THAN BETWEEN 1/2 AND 1/4 TANK OF GAS ON A DOWNHILL. IT IS MOSTLY HAPPENING WHILE STOPPED AT STOPLIGHTS OR STOP SIGNS, BUT CAN SPUTTER, SHAKE AND ACT LIKE IT IS NOT GETTING PROPER FUEL SUPPLY ON DOWNSLOPES EVEN WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR HAS STALLED OUT MULTIPLE TIMES ON BUSY STREETS, LEAVING ME VULNERABLE TO REAR END COLLISIONS. WE HAVE 4 CHILDREN IN THE CAR WITH US MOST DAYS AND WE CANNOT HAVE OUR CAR STOPPING IN THE MIDDLE OF A 6 LANE ROAD. AFTER IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES, WE LOOKED UP THE ISSUE ON LINE AND SAW THAT INDEED THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL AND YEAR OF CAR FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, HOWEVER, OUR VIN # IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. NISSAN WILL NOT FIX IT NOW, YET IT IS STILL A SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING ISSUE.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN HILL THE CAR WILL STALL IF THE GAS TANK READS LESS THAN 90 MILES TO EMPTY. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR IN TOWN. TODAY THIS HAPPENED WHILE CROSSING AN INTERSECTION. THE VAN STALLED RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A MAJOR INTERSECTION WHICH CREATED A SAFETY HAZARD. THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER SAID THAT NISSAN IS "WORKING" ON FIXING THE PROBLEM BUT THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING FOR US. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 NISSAN QUEST. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE FUEL TANK WAS ONE QUARTER FULL AND THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN ON A SLOPE, THE VEHICLE WOULD STALL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
THIS CAR HAS COMPLETELY SHUT OFF ON ME 5 TIMES IN THE PAST MONTH! I HAVE HAD TO HAVE GAS DELIVERED TO ME ALL OF THESE TIME TO BE ABLE TO DRIVE. ON MOST OF THESE OCCASIONS I HAVE HAD OVER 1/4 TAKE AND HAD NO WARNING LIGHTS ON INDICATION FUEL LEVEL WAS LOW. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM THAT NISSAN IS REFUSING TO RECOGNIZE OR DO ANYTHING ABOUT. WE TOOK THE VAN IN FOR SERVICE AND WERE FIST TOLD THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS ISSUE BUT THEN ANOTHER WORKER TOLD US THEY JUST HAD SOMEONE WITH THE SAME ISSUE AND THEY REPLACED THE TANK YET THE PROBLEM WAS NOT SOLVED. MY DEALERSHIP IS MOSSY NISSAN OF OCEANSIDE CA, AND THEY HAVE BEEN A NIGHTMARE. WE ARE DRIVING ACROSS THE US ON MILITARY ORDERS IN THIS VAN WITH OUR 2 SMALL CHILDREN, AND THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT ACCEPTABLE THAT WE WILL BE FORCED TO DRIVE IN A DEATHTRAP. THE FIRST TIME I HAD AN ISSUE WITH THIS VAN WAS ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO APPROXIMATELY 6,000 MILES. I HAD JUST DROPPED MY DAUGHTER OFF AT SCHOOL. THERE WAS A LOT OF TRAFFIC. I HAD 1/4 TANK OF GAS. I WAS LEAVING THE SCHOOL AND ON A SLIGHT DECLINE WHEN MY CAR STALLED. I HAD SEVERAL CARS AND LARGE BUSES BEHIND ME. I COULD NOT DO ANYTHING. I WAS TERRIFIED. WHEN THE CAR STALLED MY BRAKES WENT OUT AND I WAS LUCKY I PUT THE PARKING BREAK ON WHEN I DID OR I WOULD HAVE HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I USED THE PARKING BREAK AND ROLLED THE VAN OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD INTO THE BUSHES LEAVING JUST ENOUGH ROOM FOR CARS TO GET PAST ME. I NOTICED THE GAS GAUGE REGISTERED AS EMPTY. I SAT THERE FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES BEFORE THE VAN WOULD START AGAIN. WHEN IT DID I IMMEDIATELY FILLED UP WITH GAS. I CALLED THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THEY WOULD LOOK INTO IT. IN THE MEANTIME I WAS DROPPING MY OTHER DAUGHTER AT AN ACTIVITY. I WAS ON A DECLINE AGAIN THE CAR STALLED. I HAD TO ROLL DOWN TO LEVEL GROUND AND SIT AND WAIT UNTIL MY CAR WOULD START AGAIN. AGAIN I HAD ABOUT 1/4 OF A TANK. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE FUEL TANK AND NOT TO LET THE TANK GO BELOW 1/2. YESTERDAY AT 12,000 MILES THEY REPLACED THE FUEL TANK. I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED. I HAD JUST UNDER A HALF A TANK AND IDLED ON A DECLINE, MY CAR STALLED AGAIN. NOW THE DEALERSHIP IS SAYING THAT IT IS THE CLUSTER GAUGE. THEY DECIDED THIS WHEN THEY FILLED UP THE CAR FOR ME (AFTER IT STALLED) AND HAD TO PUT 14.7 GALLONS IN IT. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME IT WAS A 16 GALLON TANK SO THAT IS PROOF TO HIM IT'S THE GAUGE. I HAVE READ THE 2011 QUEST HAS A 20 GALLON TANK SO I RAN OUT OF GAS WITH 6 GALLONS IN THE TANK. I WAS TOLD NISSAN WOULDN'T ISSUE A RECALL UNTIL IT BECOMES A SAFETY CONCERN. WITH THREE YOUNG KIDS IN THE VAN, WE WERE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, IN THE DARK, ON A HILL, AT AN INTERSECTION WHERE CARS MUST TURN LEFT OR RIGHT. I HAD A QUARTER TANK OF GAS. LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS AND THE CAR BECAME COMPLETELY UNRESPONSIVE. CALLED THE POLICE TO DIRECT TRAFFIC, IT WAS DARK AND CARS WERE COMING AT MY DISABLED VEHICLE FROM BEHIND, LEFT AND RIGHT. CALLED AAA. I WAS ABLE TO GET MY GIRLS OUT OF THE VAN AND CROSS A MAJOR INTERSECTION SAFELY. WE GOT GAS IN THE CAR AND GOT IT TO THE CLOSEST DEALERSHIP. AS THIS WAS A LEASED VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 3,000 MILES ON IT, WE CALLED CORPORATE NISSAN TO DISCUSS WHAT HAPPENED AND ASKED TO BE LET OUT OF OUR LEASE (AND INTO ANOTHER NISSAN). AFTER APPROX. TWO WEEKS OF TALKING WITH NISSAN REPS (WHICH IS NOT AS EASY TALK AS THEY DO NOT RETURN PHONE CALLS AND NEVER ANSWER THEIR PHONES) AND AN ARBITRATOR, WE WERE TOLD SINCE THE VAN WAS "FIXED" AS PER THE 1ST TSB, WE WOULD NOT BE LET OUT OF OUR LEASE. I TOLD THE ARBITRATOR I FELT THE VAN WAS UNSAFE, SHE ARGUED THAT NOBODY WAS HURT IN THE VAN AND THE VAN WAS FIXED. SHE ALSO SAID THEY WOULD NOT PERFORM BOTH TSB'S ON MY VAN SINCE THE VIN NUMBER DID NOT ALIGN WITH THE DATES ISSUED IN THE 2ND TSB. NEXT DAY, THE VAN WAS DRIVEN BY A SERVICE MANAGER AND SPUTTERED ON A HILL!! THE FIRST FIX (REPLACING THE DISTANCE TO EMPTY GAGE) DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. I LEFT A MESSAGE FOR THE ARBITRATOR TO LET HER KNOW, SHE NEVER CALLED BACK. ONE WEEK LATER THE 2ND TSB HAS BEEN PERFORMED AND THE VAN IS READY FOR PICK UP. I DO NOT TRUST THE FIXES AND WILL NOT PUT MY FAMILY AT RISK. I THINK ITS A DISGRACE HOW CORPORATE NISSAN IS HANDLING THIS PROBLEM. THEY KNOW THE 2011 QUEST HAS A GAS TANK DESIGN FLAW AND ARE NOT ACTIVELY TRYING TO GET THEM OFF THE ROAD FOR MUCH NEEDED REPAIRS. NEAR MISS WITH A STALLING NISSAN QUEST SL 2011. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM THAT CAN CAUSE SEVERE ACCIDENTS AND DEATH OR SERIOUS INJURY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. I BOUGHT A NISAN QUEST SL IN NOVEMBER 2011. BACK IN DECEMBER 2011 WHILE HAVING A LITTLE BIT LESS THAN A QUARTER TANK OF GASOLINE I MADE A LEFT TURN TO GET INTO INCOMING TRAFFIC AND THE VEHICLE STALLED RIGHT ON THE TRAFFIC LANE, FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NOT ANY CARS CLOSE TO MY VEHICLE. INITIALLY I THOUGHT IT HAD BEEN AN ISOLATED EVENT, BUT MY WIFE COMMENTED THAT THE SAME THING HAD HAPPENED TO HER. THIS WEEKEND WHILE DRIVING DOWN HILL AND ENTERING AN INTERSECTION THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN (I WAS GOING STRAIGHT, WITHOUT TURNING) AND THE CAR BEHIND ME WAS BARELY ABLE TO STOP WHEN I LOST SPEED, THEY ALMOST HIT US. FROM THE EVENTS EXPLAINED ABOVE I ASSUME THE FUEL INJECTION IS FAILING DUE TO A BAD GAS TANK DESIGN AND/OR THE TURNING AND/OR DRIVING DOWN HILL MAY BE CONTRIBUTING DUE TO THE UNEVEN FLOW OF GASOLINE. AGAIN THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION THAT MAY CAUSE SEVERE ACCIDENTS. *TR
THE VEHICLE FAILS TO DRAW GAS FROM THE GAS TANK WHEN PARKED ON A DECLINE (FRONT DOWN), AND THERE IS LESS THAN 1/4 TANK OF FUEL IN THE TANK. THIS HAPPENED IN OUR DRIVEWAY, WHERE WE WERE UNABLE TO START THE VEHICLE EVEN WITH 1/4 TANK OF GAS, UNTIL THE VEHICLE WAS PUT IN NEUTRAL AND ROLLED TO A FLAT SPOT. THEN THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO START. WE HAVE HEARD SIMILAR STORIES OF THE VEHICLE NOT STARTING WHEN PARKED ON AN DECLINE, BUT HAVE ALSO HEARD OF OWNERS OF THE 2011 QUEST STALLING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS DUE TO FUEL STARVATION, ATTRIBUTABLE TO BAD GAS TANK DESIGN. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED BY NISSAN IMMEDIATELY BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED OR KILLED IN A STALL-OUT ACCIDENT. *TR
THE FUEL INDICATION LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DEPARTING OUR NEIGHBORHOOD, WHILE GOING DOWN A HILL TO A STOP SIGN THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. HAD TO FILL THE TANK VIA A GAS CAN TO MAKE IT TO THE STATION. GAS LIGHT CAME ON TONIGHT MARCH 15TH WHILE IN INTERSTATE AND DROVE APPROXIMATELY 7 MILES AND PARKED. INDICATOR AT THE TIME STILL SAID WE HAD APPROXIMATELY 40 MILES. PARKED ON A DECLINE AND CAR WOULD NOT START WHEN WE RETURNED. AGAIN FILLED TANK WITH A GALLON OF GAS AND DROVE TO STATION WHERE WE FILLED WITH AN ADDITIONAL 14 GALLONS. 14 GALLONS + 1 GALLON FROM CAN = 15 GALLONS....IN A SUPPOSED 20 GALLON TANK? THE MATH ISN'T ADDING UP. LUCKILY OUR CHILDREN HAVEN'T BEEN IN THE CAR ON EITHER OCCURRENCE NOR HAVE WE STALLED ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WHERE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT COULD OCCUR AS A RESULT. THERE IS AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE 2011 NISSAN QUEST FUEL TANK OR PUMP WHICH IS CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL OR NOT START WHEN THERE IS MORE THAN 4-5 GALLONS OF GAS IN THE TANK. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED AND CORRECTED BEFORE SOMEBODY IS KILLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY THEN ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY HAD NOT COME UP WITH A REMEDY FOR THE FAILURE YET AND THAT THE CONTACT SHOULD NOT ALLOW THE FUEL TO GO UNDER ONE FOURTH FULL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 5,800.
