THE CAR ENGINE STOPS WHEN AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHT AND EVERY TIME THAT I STOP . I HAVE TO RESTART IT TO PROCEED AND THIS HAPPENS VERY OFTEN AND VERY FRUSTRATING.. THANKS GOD THAT I HAVEN'T HAD ANYONE REAR-ENDED ME SO FAR. *TR
I BEGAN TO HAVE TROUBLE WITH MY CAR A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. I HAVE BEEN GOING THROUGH A QUART OF OIL A DAY AND A TANK OF GAS IN A FEW DAYS. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE FOUND OUT THERE IS A RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THIS RECALL. I WAS IN THE MARINES AND WAS STATIONED AT SEVERAL DIFFERENT BASES. MY MOTHER?S ADDRESS WAS ALSO USED BY NISSAN BUT SHE NEVER RECEIVED ANY INFORMATION ON THE RECALL. I CONTACTED THE NISSAN DEALER IN NORFOLK NE. HE TOLD ME I HAD TO WAIT TWO WEEKS FOR THEM TO LOOK AT IT. THE PEOPLE I DEALT WITH WERE RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL AND ACTED LIKE I WAS AN INCONVENIENCE. I DID NOT HAVE ANOTHER VEHICLE AND I AM IN SCHOOL AND HAVE WORK SO I CONTACTED NISSAN USA. AFTER SEVERAL PHONE CALLS I WAS ABLE TO GET AN APPOINTMENT IN SIOUX CITY IA. I HAD TO HAVE MY VEHICLE TOWED AT MY EXPENSE TO SIOUX CITY. THEY LOOKED AT MY CAR AND FOUND OUT THAT THERE WERE SHREDS OF METAL IN THE ENGINE AND THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THEY STATED THEY WERE NOT GOING TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. THEY STATED I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT TO BE REPLACED. IN THE RECALL THEY SAID IT WOULD BE REPLACED AT NISSANS EXPENSE, A TOW IF NECESSARY WOULD BE PAID AND A RENTAL VEHICLE WOULD BE PROVIDED. NONE OF THIS HAS HAPPENED. I WOULD LIKE ASSISTANCE WITH THIS ISSUE BECAUSE THE ENGINE SHOULD BE REPLACED BY NISSAN. I TOLD THEM WHAT WAS WRONG AND MY MECHANIC CALLED AND TOLD THEM AS WELL. THEY HAVE STILL ARE NOT WILLING TO PAY FOR THE ENGINE. *TR

THE FAILURE OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS INFORMED THAT THE ECM NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 07V527000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 NISSAN SENTRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC THAT DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WITH THE CRANK POSITION SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY REPLACING TWO SENSORS LOCATED AT THE TOP AND BOTTOM HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MECHANIC THEN ADVISED THAT THE REMEDY WAS TO REPROGRAM THE COMPUTER AT AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. CYLINDER HEAD GASKET BLOWN. CAR 100 MILES AWAY FROM HOME AND WILL NOT START. *JB
I WAS TRAVELING TO MY NEW HOME WHEN I REALIZED THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME WAS COMPLETELY STOPPED TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN. I SLAMMED ON MY BRAKES, BUT HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. MY AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE THE CRASH CAUSED 4 FRACTURES IN MY RIGHT ANKLE AND FOOT.HAD THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, WOULD THEY HAVE HELD ME BACK IN MY SEAT AND LESSONED THE CRASH IMPACT ON MY FOOT/ANKLE? *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE TEMPERATURE SENSOR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 132,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
I WAS AT A RED LIGHT, THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL BUT IT GOT STUCK AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO DRIVE. THERE WAS A CAR BEHIND ME, SO I MANAGED TO MERGE TO THE LEFT USING MY STEERING WHEEL. I CONTINUED TO PRESS THE GAS PEDAL BUT IT WAS COMPLETELY STUCK, AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO HIT THE GAS PEDAL TO INCREASE THE SPEED OF THE CAR TO DRIVE AWAY FROM INCOMING TRAFFIC. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO CRUISE THE CAR AND MERGE LEFT. I PARKED MY CAR IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA. I TURNED THE CAR OFF. I THEN MANUALLY PULLED THE GAS PEDAL UP AWAY FROM THE FLOOR AND MANAGED TO UNSTUCK THE GAS PEDAL. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN FIRST STARTING THE VEHICLE, EXHAUST FUMES WOULD ENTER THE INTERIOR CABIN WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE ECM NEEDED REPLACING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED HAVING THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST CONFIRMED THAT THE ECM WAS DEFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURER THEN ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND NO ASSISTANCE WOULD BE PROVIDED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NON-DRIVABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,500.

HELLO- I WANT TO KNOW WHY NISSAN DONT RECALLS THE SENTRA 2002 WITH 2.5L WITH THE SAME ENGINE AND CATALYST WITH THE SAME RECALL FROM 2006 SENTRA, BECAUSE MY CAR HAPPEN THE SAME PROBLEM OF OIL CONSUMPTION, I KNOW THEY CHANGE THE CATALYST FOR ANOTHER ONE BUT IS THE SAME THAT THE OLD ONE,NOT A RE-DESIGN CATALYST? THIS IS THAT RECALL FROM THE SENTRA 2006 THAT HAPPEN IN MY CAR 2002 1. NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 06V223000 RECALL DATE: 2006-06-21 SUMMARY: CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 2.5L ENGINES MAY EXPERIENCE EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION AS A RESULT OF IMPROPER PERFORMANCE OF THE PISTON RINGS. CONSEQUENCES: IF THE OIL IS NOT MAINTAINED AT LEAST AT THE MINIMUM LEVEL, ENGINE DAMAGE CAN OCCUR AND IN EXTREME CASES RESULT IN AN ENGINE FIRE. LOSS OF POWER IN REVERSE AND ALL UPSHIFTING. *TR
OVER THE PAST 3 YEARS, I'VE HAD MY 2002 NISSAN SENTRA SER SPEC V INTO NISSAN 15 TIMES FOR SERVICE. THEY HAVE YET TO FIX IT. EVERY 1-7 MONTHS I HAVE TO BRING IT BACK. THE CAR HAS SHUT OFF AND STALLED ON ME IN TRAFFIC, WHICH IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE ECM HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE ' MANY OTHERS HAVE REPORTED PROBLEMS WITH THE ECM ONLINE ' I BELIEVE IT IS BAD, AS WELL AS OTHER PARTS, AND NISSAN NEEDS TO ISSUE RECALLS ON THIS CAR. I TOOK MY VEHICLE A NISSAN SENTRA GXE 2002 FOR OIL CHANGE AT NISSAN AGINCOURT IN SCARBOROUGH IN SPRING 2010. THIS TIME I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC FOR A OIL CHANGE. THE MECHANIC FROM CARFAX TOLD ME THE THE DIP STICK WAS BROKEN WHEN HE OPEN THE HOOD AND TRIED TO DO THE OIL CHANGE. HE MENTIONED THAT THEIR IS A RECALL FOR THE DIP STICK IN THIS VEHICLE. I CALLED THE NISSAN AT AGINCOURT WHERE DID MY LAST OIL CHANGE THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THE DIP STICK. I WAS GIVEN TO UNDERSTAND THIS IS A COMMON OCCURANCE FOR THIE NISSAN SENTRA 2002 GXE. THANK YOU. *TR

THE CONTACT ASKED THE DEALER TO INSPECT THE ECM TO MAKE SURE IT WAS FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY AND WAS BILLED FOR THE INSPECTION; HOWEVER, THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE ECM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT THE CONTACTS EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO STATED THAT THEY WOULD CALL HER BACK. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 120,000.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2002 NISSAN SENTRA IT SHUTS OFF NO MATTER THE SPEED NOW. STARTED ONLY WHEN I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT, SIGN,OR GOING AT A SLOW SPEED. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR 3 YEARS, HAVE THE MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR CHANGED, FUEL FILTER, AND STILL STOPPING. ALSO THE OIL DIP STICK KEEP BREAKING OFF. 1. THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING WITHOUT WARNING WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN. IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH. I COULDN'T START THE ENGINE UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS COOLED OFF. 2. SINCE THE REPAIR, THE CAR NO LONGER STALLS AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I WAS INFORMED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT OF NISSAN NORTH AMERICA THAT THE RECALLED PART REPLACEMENT IS NOT UNDER RECALL AND THE BILL FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WILL NOT BE REIMBURSED. AS SUCH, THE REPLACED CRANKSHAFT SENSOR APPEARS TO HAVE THE SAME GROUNDS FOR RECALL AS THE ORIGINAL PART THAT WAS RECALLED. THE DEFECTIVE CRANKSHAFT SENSOR WAS DISCARDED BY THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALER SERVICE CENTER AFTER THE REPAIR WAS MADE. *TR

I HAVE CONTACTED NISSAN CORPORATE ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THEY HAVE ISSUED A RECALL ON THE 2003 AND UP MODELS BUT REFUSE TO ISSUE THE RECALL ON THE 2002 MODEL. THIS IS PERTAINING TO AN EXISTING CAMPAIGN (#03V084000). I BOUGHT A USED 2002 NISSAN SENTRA SER SPEC-V IN MAY 2007. SHORTLY AFTER MY PURCHASE (JUNE 2007), I HAD THIS OUTSTANDING RECALL, INCLUDING SEVERAL OTHERS PERFORMED. THE ABOVE RECALL STATES THAT THE PRE-CATALYST COULD OVERHEAT AND DISINTEGRATE, BLOWING PARTICULATE INTO THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER, SCORING THE CYLINDER WALLS, AND CAUSE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION AND POSSIBLE ENGINE DAMAGE, REQUIRING ENGINE REPLACEMENT. THERE WAS APPROX. 65,000 MILES ON THE CAR AT THIS POINT. LAST FEBRUARY, I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE HIGHWAY WHEN I SUDDENLY LOST POWER. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND FOUND THE ENGINE WOULD BARELY RUN AND WOULD NOT REV OVER 2000 RPM. I HAD THIS CAR TOWED 20 MILES TO MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP. UPON INSPECTING THE VEHICLE THEY TOLD ME THAT THE PRE-CATALYST THAT I HAD ALREADY HAD REPLACED ON THE RECALL, HAD DISINTEGRATED, PLUGGING MY EXHAUST, BLOWING CHUNKS OF DEBRIS INTO MY ENGINE, THEREFORE DESTROYING THE ENGINE. I WAS TOLD I'D NEED TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ENGINE AT A COST OF $4300.00. THIS CAR ONLY HAD ANOTHER 50,000 MILES ON IT AFTER THE INITIAL RECALL WORK WAS DONE. SINCE WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS VEHICLE WAS EXACTLY WHAT THE ORIGINAL RECALL WAS SUPPOSED TO PREVENT, I WENT TO NISSAN, REQUESTING THAT THEY STAND BEHIND THIS OBVIOUS DESIGN DEFECT AND AT THE VERY LEAST ASSIST ME IN REPLACING THIS ENGINE. I WAS GIVEN SEVERAL DIFFERENT STORIES RANGING FROM ACCUSATION THAT I DID NOT MAINTAIN THIS VEHICLE (EVEN THOUGH I DO SO RELIGIOUSLY AT NISSAN DEALERSHIPS) TO STATING THE DEALER I HAD THE WORK PERFORMED AT WAS AT FAULT AND I SHOULD PURSUE RESTITUTION FROM THEM, TO THE FACT THE CAR WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND I WAS SOL AND THIS WAS 'NORMAL' WEAR AND TEAR. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 92,000.

THE DIPSTICK BROKE IN THE ORDINARY COURSE OF STANDARD MAINTENANCE OF THE OIL IN THE CAR AND THE BROKEN DIPSTICK FELL IN, RESULTING IN A $250-$300 REPAIR (TO RETRIEVE THE DIPSTICK FROM THE ENGINE AND REPLACE THE DIPSTICK). THE DIPSTICK IS CLEARLY DEFECTIVE, AS A BRIEF INTERNET SEARCH REVEALS HUNDREDS OF NISSAN SENTRA OWNER COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS EXACT PROBLEM, INCLUDING NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE NHTSA WEBSITER (OVER SEVERAL MODEL YEARS). THIS DIPSTICK, WITH ITS FLIMSY PLASTIC PART, IS CLEARLY NOT SUITABLE FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE AND CAN ULTIMATELY RESULT IN A DANGEROUS ENGINE FAILURE. NOBODY TAKES THEIR CAR BACK TO THE CAR MANUFACTURER TO CHECK THE OIL. IT WAS NECESSARY FOR US TO PROCEED WITH THE REPAIR IMMEDIATELY AND AT OUR OWN EXPENSE, SINCE THE BROKEN DIPSTICK IN THE ENGINE WAS OBSTRUCTING THE ENTRY OF A NEW DIPSTICK AND ALSO DISTORTING THE MEASUREMENT OF THE OIL. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 NISSAN SENTRA SE-R. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD EXPERIENCED RECURRING FAILURES WHEN IT BEGAN TO STALL OR FAIL TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY 2 MONTHS LATER, THE FAILURE BEGAN TO RECUR AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED TWICE. THE CONTACT BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BURNING APPROXIMATELY ONE QUART OF OIL A WEEK. APPROXIMATELY 6 MONTHS LATER, THE FAILURES BEGAN TO RECUR AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE ENGINE MELTED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF AN ENGINE RECALL AND THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS LATER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EXAMINED IN ORDER TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
RECENTLY THE ECM IN MY 2002 NISSAN SENTRA FAILED WHILE DRIVING CAUSING LOSE OF CONTROL OF MY VEHICLE. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE ONLINE I FOUND THAT THERE IS AN ACTIVE RECALL FOR THE FOAM THAT COVERS THE ECM. THE PROBLEM BEING THAT THE FOAM TRAPS MOISTURE CAUSING THE ECM TO FRY. NISSAN WOULD NOT COVER THE ECM UNDER THE RECALL IN WHICH I HAD TO PAY $800 FOR THE REPAIR. I FILED A CLAIM WITH NISSAN FOR SOME KIND OF REIMBURSEMENT AND I WAS DENIED BECAUSE OF THE CAR'S MILEAGE AND BEING OUT OF WARRANTY. I FEEL AS THOUGH I WAS ROBBED $800 DUE TO THE FACT THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE AND YET NISSAN WILL NOT STEP UP AND TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR DEFECTIVE PART. I WOULD LIKE SOME KIND OF REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE $800 I HAD TO SPEND WHICH TECHNICALLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER AN ACTIVE RECALL ON THIS PART. *TR
UPON NOTICING AN UNUSUAL SMELL COMING FROM MY CAR I OPENED MY HOOD TO REMOVE THE OIL DIPSTICK ONLY TO FIND THAT THE PLASTIC RING HAD MELTED AWAY FROM THE DIPSTICK. THE DIPSTICK WAS NOW STUCK AND AFTER ABOUT AN HOUR I WAS ABLE TO REMOVE IT BECAUSE OF THE NUMEROUS SUGGESTIONS, WHICH I FOUND ONLINE IN ORDER TO AVOID A MECHANIC FEE OF MORE THAN $150.00 TO REMOVE IT. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH NISSAN SENTRA ACCORDING TO THE MANY BLOGS FOUND ON THE WEB SIMPLY BY TYPING NISSAN BROKEN OIL DIPSTICK. I WAS GIVEN A DEFECTIVE PART, TIME WASTED TRYING TO REMOVE THE DIPSTICK AND HAD TO INCUR THE COST TO REPLACE THE PART, ONLY TO BE GIVEN THE SAME TYPE OF DIPSTICK WITH A PLASTIC HANDLE. *TR
MY 2002 NISSAN SENTRA W/ 1.8 ENGINE STARTED DYING AT LOW SPEEDS. MY MECHANIC SAID IT WAS A KNOWN DEFECT OF THE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR & A RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR THE 2.5L ENGINE, BUT NOT FOR MY 1.8L ENGINE. IT COST ME $408 TO FIX. HERE IS THE 2002 NISSAN SENTRA DEFECT SUMMARY: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH A 2.5L ENGINE, THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR CAN OVERHEAT CAUSING A BRIEF INTERRUPTION IN THE SIGNAL OUTPUT FROM THE SENSOR.
