"(NHTSA Recall 22V-681): Affects 2020 - 2023 Titan ...trucks, Where the vehicle may not stay in park, increasing crash risk. Owners are advised to use the parking brake every time they park'" I brought my Nissan Titan to Wallace Nissan in Stuart, Florida because I have had the Titan roll down my driveway when the parking pawl did not engage. I pulled into my driveway and placed the vehicle in park. As I checked to make certain I had necessary paperwork for an appointment I had with the Veterans Administration, the vehicle rolled back almost into the road. I was looking down at my paperwork; my wife noticed the vehicle rolling. On another occasion, the vehicle was put in park, so I could run into the house. The vehicle rolled back and the door bumped into me. Now, I make certain to use the parking-brake, but this is a major safety issue. I looked the issue up and found the NHTSA information above in a Google Search. I scheduled an appointment at 10:30 a.m. on 2/18/2026. When I arrived I was issued a claim check XXX by a Wallace Nissan Service Technician, and was told I would have to pay to have this recall issue fixed and I would have to leave the Titan Pickup for the repair. Strangely, a manufacturing quality problem requires the vehicle to be left for an undetermined time, and no loaner vehicle is provided by the manufacturer while they make the recall repair. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
23000 miles on truck, hard down and up shifting at slower speeds causing lurching when stopping and starting, often when trying to merge into traffic or stop for traffic signals or pedestrians, also at times will not go through the whole range of gears when trying to get up to highway speed to run with the traffic flow. ( 9 speed transmission)
While in PARK, my 2023 Nissan Titan inexplicably started rolling away as I was getting my mail from my mailbox. It traveled down my driveway, over a railroad tie border, deflected off of a tree, and eventually came to a stop when it became wedged under a pine tree. The wheels were turning. The vehicle was not sliding. There was snow and I recorded the impressions of the tire tread in the snow. Furthermore, when I got into the vehicle to back it out, the vehicle's shifter was still in PARK. I put it in reverse, backed it out from under the tree, and was able to drive it to my parking pad. The vehicle is available for inspection. My safety was put in risk because the only thing I could have done is chase after and attempt to jump back into the driver's seat (the door was still open). I thought better of taking such a risk and did not do so. Had my children been outside, they could have been run over by my truck. They would have had no idea I wasn't driving it, and -- as stated -- the truck drove itself over the railroad tie and into my yard. The problem has not been reproduced, but Nissan had a recall of similar vehicles that took multiple attempts to replicate. The vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer (Nissan), and Nissan has said they are not at fault. The Titan has also been inspected by my insurance company. There were no warning lamps, and no warning of any type. I heard the crunching snow on the way back from my mailbox, looked at where the noise was coming from (rear driver's side wheel), and saw it was turning.
The transmission has issues when temperatures drop below 5 Fahrenheit. Specifically if the outside temperature drops below 5 the transmission does not engage gears correctly and results in sluggish acceleration, erratic RPMs and poor fuel economy. To be clear this is NOT with cold starting the vehicle. This is documented instances of the vehicle after sufficient driving time to warm up. I have documented multiple instances of the vehicle having the erratic RPMs and sluggish acceleration when the temperature drops to below 5. Each documented instance is after driving for a period of time (I note this to again document the vehicle is warm and not a cold start). During these drives the outside temperature drops and goes below 5 degrees during the drive at which point the vehicle begins having the sluggish acceleration and erratic RPMs. To reiterate and ensure it is clear. The vehicle is warmed up. It is not a cold start concern. I keep reiterating this because each time I raise the concern to Nissan and the dealer they simply say it is cold, this issue occurs after sufficient time for the vehicle to warm up. This is being raised to NHTSA because when it is happening the sluggish acceleration leads to general drivability issues, along with the erratic RPMs result in substantial loss of MPG. When it occurs gas mileage drops to generally about 8mpgs at best far below the rated MPG of the vehicle and normal driving characteristics.
When you come to a stop, the vehicle lurches forward like someone hit your vehicle from behind.
Transmission shifting is abrasive particularly when coming to a stop. Vehicle lurches forward when transmission shifts from 2nd to 1st. Loss of control imminent when traveling on slick surfaces. I have brought this to the attention of my local dealership and was told there are no warning lights illuminated so the transmission is working correctly. They also stated that this is a common complaint with no remedy?
When coming to a stop, my truck will lurch forward and will pull through normal braking, requiring increased braking pedal force to avoid a front collision. This does not happen at every stop, but often enough to be extremly concerning. This has been occurring since I bought the truck new. Truck now has just under 5,000 miles on the odometer and has not improved. I need a solution as I cannot allow anyone in my family to drive my truck for fear of accident.
Nissan Titan Pro-4X 4WD was bought new from dealership. Have had issues with the truck downshifting hard when slowing down since purchase. The truck lurches forward under 5MPH - 10MPH and feels like you are being rearended by another vehicle. Identical issue to NHTSA complaints 11578467 and 11539769. Have voiced my concerns to the Nissan dealership I have maintenance completed at. They cannot recreate the problem or diagnosis the issue. They cited it may be a software issue. Have voiced concerns and continued issue with every standardized oil chain/tire rotation and scheduled maintenance appointments. No resolution to the issue has been made.
Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA. A high complaint count may reflect vehicle popularity, not defect severity. Data sourced from NHTSA public records.
