1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? My passenger-side rear tire blew out, while I was driving on I-85 in NC. I have a photo of the tire while it was on the rack at the AAA repair shop. The temperature was normal outside, and I did not see any debris in the road. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? This occured at 3:50 p.m. on a weekday, and the safety of myself and the drivers around me was at risk, when the tire blew out and it was difficult to control my car on the intersstate. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The car was towed to a AAA service center, and I have photos of the tire that blew out, as well as the driver's-side rear tire that is also deformed. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No, but I emailed Toyo with a report that I thought there might be an issue on Nov. 9, 2023. I was towed to a AAA service center. I have photos and the reciept from having to replace both rear tires, and get a re-alignment. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No. This was a sudden blow-out on the interstate while traveling. However, the car did begin shaking, so I was trying to pull to the slow lane when the tire blew out.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN VERSA EQUIPPED WITH SUMITOMO, TIRE LINE: TOURING LS TIRE SIZE: 185/65/R15 TIRES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO MAKE AN ABNORMAL THUMPING NOISE. THE CONTACT MERGED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IN ORDER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER'S SIDE TIRE TREAD HAD SEPARATED AND THE PIECE THAT HUNG OFF WAS HITTING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN CONFIRMED THAT THE TREAD HAD SEPARATED DUE TO LACK OF AIR IN THE TIRE. THE TIRE WAS NOT REPLACED. NEITHER THE VIN NOR THE DOT NUMBERS WERE AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,950. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000.

SECOND TIRE FROM SAME SET BLEW OUT IN A VERY SIMILAR FASHION ON JUNE 6, 2014 ON INTERSTATE 75. LUCKILY, NO ACCIDENT OR INJURY. CONTACTED BRIDGESTONE AND THE TIRE CHOICE WHERE PURCHASED (BY PREVIOUS OWNER). SINCE I AM NOT THE PURCHASER, THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING. MY PRIMARY CONCERN IS THAT TIRES WITH LESS THAN 11,000 MILES BLOW OUT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR
I LOST TWO HUBCAPS. WHEN I DISCOVERED THE FIRST HUBCAP, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THE COST WOULD BE $150.00. A YEARS LATER, I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET WHEN I LOST THE HUBCAP. ANOTHER DRIVER FOLLOWED ME UNTIL I STOPPED IN A PARKING LOT. THE COUPLE INFORMED ME WHERE I LOST THE HUBCAP. THEY INFORMED ME THEY HAD TWO SWERVE TO PREVENT THE HUBCAP FROM ROLLING INTO THEIR VEHICLE. I DECIDED TO CHANGE MY NISSAN DEALER SERVICE LOCATION TO HAVE MY CAR SERVICED. WHEN I ARRIVED TO HAVE AN OIL CHANGE, THEY ASKED ABOUT MY HUBCAPS. I TOLD THEM WHAT THE PREVIOUS SERVICE DEPARTMENT INFORMED ME. THIS NEW SERVICE DEPARTMENT INFORMED ME THAT THE HUBCAP WERE COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY. THE ORIGINAL DEALER SHOULD HAVE NEVER TRIED TO CHARGE ME TO REPLACE THE HUBCAP. THE SECOND DEALER TRIED TO WORK SOMETHING OUT FOR ME SINCE MY CAR HAD LESS THAN 35K MILES. BUT, THERE WAS NOTHING HE COULD DO. *TR

ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT MY HUSBAND COMMENTED THAT ONE OF THE HUBCAPS DIDN'T LOOK RIGHT. ON THE 28TH I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, IN CROWDED TRAFFIC AT 75 MPH. I BELIEVE THE WIND CAUGHT MY HUBCAP. I HEARD A SOUND, THEN SAW SOMETHING FLIP UP ON THE SIDE OF MY CAR. I THOUGHT I'D KICKED SOMETHING UP FROM THE ROADWAY. THEN SOMETHING FLEW ACROSS MY REARVIEW MIRROR AND CAUGHT MY ATTENTION. I LOOKED CLOSER AND SAW MY HUBCAP FLYING THROUGH TRAFFIC AND ACROSS THE INTERSTATE. I DID NOT STOP TO RETRIEVE IT AS I DID NOT FEEL IT SAFE IN THE CONGESTION. I WAS VERY THANKFUL THAT NO ONE SWERVED TO MISS IT AS IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A DISASTROUS ACCIDENT. I HAVE SINCE LOOKED ONLINE TO FIND THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. FURTHERMORE, I HAVE TRIED TO CONTACT MY NISSAN DEALER FOR A REPLACEMENT BUT HAVE YET TO HEAR BACK FROM THEM. THE TPMS SYSTEM IN MY 2007 VERSA HAS STOPPED WORKING PROPERLY. IT HAS FAILED AND CAME ON WITH THE TIRE PRESSURE FINE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THE FIRST TIME THAT I HAD ONE TIRE THAT WAS 1LB LOW AND THAT IT WOULD SHUT OFF WITHIN THE NEXT 5 MILES OR SO/. IT DID TO COME BACK ON IN 10 MILES. THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITOR SYSTEM, OR TPMS, ON THE 2007 NISSAN VERSA THAT I, AND MANY, MANY OTHERS OWN, KEEPS FAILING. THE TPMS LIGHT ON THE DASH WILL BLINK AND THEN STAY STEADY ON, WHICH NISSAN, IN THE MANUAL, SAYS IS A FAULT HAS OCCURRED IN THE TPMS MONITOR SYSTEM AND YOU HAVE TO TAKE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. NISSAN DEALERS HAVE NO FIX AND IT IS A CAUSE OF GREAT CONCERN. I HAVE ALREADY HAD THIS PROBLEM 'FIXED' ONCE AT 1100 MILES AND THEN PROBLEM RECURRED AT AROUND 2000 MILES. FAILURE PREVENTS TPMS SYSTEM FROM FUNCTIONING CORRECTLY - IT REPORTS AN ERROR WHEN ALL TIRES ARE OK, AND THE CONTINUOUS ERROR EFFECTIVELY DISABLES THE SYSTEM FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE. *NM
