I took my 2007 Nissan Xterra to the dealer on 08/04/2025 to complete the air bag safety recall. The dealer performed the recall service, but the recall status has not been updated in the system or on the NHTSA website. It still shows as “incomplete.” Because the recall remains listed as open, I am unable to pass my brake and light inspection or complete my vehicle registration with the DMV. I have contacted the dealer and Nissan customer service multiple times, but they have not corrected the recall record or provided a timeline for when it will be updated. The recall has technically been completed, but Nissan’s failure to update the record is preventing my vehicle from being legally inspected and registered. I am requesting NHTSA’s help to ensure the manufacturer updates the recall status properly.

The contact refused to pay for the diagnostic test and stated that the warning light was not illuminated prior to the recall repair being performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact then received notification of the NHTSA Campaign Number: 23E012000 (Air Bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available for the recall repair. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that they were not responsible for the individual dealers and no further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available. The contact stated that there were 3 parts that needed to be replaced but the parts were unavailable. The contact paid a bill from the dealership, yet the vehicle was returned back without any repairs being made.
The airbag warning light came on. The vehicle is registered in a state that uses heavy amounts of salt on the roads in winter. Nissan had a recall campaign for this exact thing that they closed. Now, they refuse to diagnose or repair the issue and expect me to pay for it completely. They refuse to fix a problem they already admitted was their fault due to the fact they thought everyone should have gotten it fixed already. However, the vehicle is new to me and only started having the problem this winter.

TAKATA RECALL, THE AIRBAG FAULTY LIGHT IS FLASHING IN THE DASH OF THE CAR EVEN THOUGH THE REPAIR WAS PREFORMED AT NISSAN FOR THE RECALL. FLASHING ALLWAYS IN PARK OR MOVING.
MY AIR BAG LIGHT SAYS ON IN THE DASH AND THE PASSENGER SEAT BELT DOSE NOT SHOW ANYONE IN THE SEAT . MY CRUSE CONTROL WORKS SOME TIMES IF I AM ON THE HIGHWAY IT WILL NOT WORK IF I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND THEN RESTART IT IT WILL WORK
THE FUEL GAUGE GOES TO EMPTY EVEN WHEN THE TANK IS AT LEAST HALF FULL; IT DOES SAME WHEN VEHICLE IS STANDING IDLE FOR A SHORT WHILE TOO. AIRBAG DASH WARNING LIGHT FLASHING. THERE ARE RECALLS FOR BOTH THESE ISSUES, BUT NISSAN CLAIMS MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED. THE DATE ASSIGNED TO THE "WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN" IS AN APPROXIMATION.
GETTING A BLINKING AIRBAG LIGHT BUT DID NOT SEE IT ON THE RECALL LIST.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2007 NISSAN XTERRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO MERGE INTO ANOTHER LANE AND CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS TOTALED AND WAS TOWED AWAY BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 151,000.
TAKATA RECALL
ON A FM ROAD, DOING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH. FRONTAL IMPACT WITH A GUARD RAIL, WENT OVER RAIL, HIT TREE. AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. DRIVER HIT STEERING WHEEL UPON IMPACT WITH GUARDRAIL, HIT WINDSHIELD WITH HEAD WHEN VEHICLE STRUCK TREE. (NOT WEARING SEAT BELT AT TIME OF IMPACT.) VEHICLE HAS BEEN DECLARED A TOTAL LOSS. WE BELIEVE THE ISSUE IS, THE AIRBAG SENSORS.
THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AIRBAG SENSOR THAT DETECTS IF THERE IS A PASSENGER PRESENT HAS BEEN MALFUNCTIONING. WHILE DRIVING THE SENSOR IN THE SEAT WILL RANDOMLY TURN THE AIRBAG ON AND OFF, WHETHER OR NOT THERE IS A PASSENGER PRESENT. THE HUGE SAFETY ISSUE IS THAT A PASSENGER MAY ACTUALLY BE PRESENT AND SENSOR WILL NOT TURN THE AIRBAG "ON" AND IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT, THE AIRBAG WILL NOT BE DEPLOYED. AND ALSO THE PASSENGER AIRBAG COULD BE DEPLOYED WHEN IT SHOULDN'T BE, MEANING THERE IS NO PASSENGER PRESENT, LEADING TO HIGHER REPAIR COSTS. A FRIEND OF MINE SAID HIS 08 NISSAN ALTIMA HAD A RECALL FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED IMMEDIATELY.
OUR AIRBAG LIGHT STAYS ON CONSTANTLY AND, NOW THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT LIGHT STAYS ON. SINCE, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, THIS IS STILL A MANUFACTURER'S PROBLEM AND SHOULD BE REVIEWED BY A LOCAL DEALER. WITH THE CURRENT ISSUES IN THE MEDIA ABOUT THE AIRBAGS, THIS SHOULD BE CARED FOR.

I AM 5' 3" AND WEIGHT 115 LBS. WE TOOK IT TO A KEN GARFF NISSAN IN SALT LAKE CITY. THEY DID AN AIRBAG SYSTEMS CHECK ON THE CAR AND SAID IT WAS WORKING FINE. WHEN I CALLED NISSAN MANUFACTURING TO SEE WHAT THE WEIGHT LIMIT WAS SET AT FOR THE COMPUTER TO DECIDE IF IT WAS A CHILD OR NOT, THEY COULD NOT GIVE ME AN ANSWER. THE LADY SAID SHE (OR THE TECHNICAL PERSON SHE CONTACTED) DID NOT KNOW THE WEIGHT. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT NISSAN WOULD SAY A CHILD WEIGHTS 115 LBS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REMEDY REFERENCED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 08V690000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL) WAS INSUFFICIENT IN PROVIDING A REMEDY TO THE PROPER POPULATION OF VEHICLES, WHICH WERE MANUFACTURED DURING THE LISTED PRODUCTION DATES. THE REMEDY REFERENCED IN THE RECALL WOULD ONLY BE PROVIDED TO VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD OR REGISTERED IN THE SALT BELT STATES. HOWEVER, MANY CONSUMERS RESIDE IN NON-SALT BELT STATES, BUT FREQUENTLY TRAVEL IN SALT BELT STATES. AS A CONSEQUENCE, THE NON-SALT BELT STATE VEHICLE OWNERS WOULD INCUR THE SAME FAILURES, BUT WOULD BE DENIED A FAIR REMEDY. THE SAFETY RISK WOULD ALSO BE INCREASED. IN ADDITION, THERE ARE OTHER ELEMENTS WITH SIMILAR PROPERTIES AS SALT, WHICH WOULD CAUSE AN IDENTICAL FAILURE. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT ASSIST. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS NOT APPLICABLE.

I HAVE PURCHASED A NEW 2007 NISSAN XTERRA S 4X4 SUV SO THAT I CAN GO OFF-ROADING FOR SPORTS ACTIVITIES SUCH AS SKIING (SNOW), HUNTING (MOUNTAINS, DIRT ROADS). HOWEVER, I HAVE WENT TO TEST THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM OF MY VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES TO OHV PARKS, AND THE LAST TIME I VISITED A PARK, I WAS DRIVING THROUGH PLAIN MUD ON A PLAIN DIRT GROUND AND WITHOUT ANY IMPACT NOR ANY BAD DRIVING THE CURTAIN AIRBAGS FROM BOTH SIDES HAVE DEPLOYED GIVING ME A TRAUMA FOR AIRBAGS. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR FOR REPAIR TO CERRITOS NISSAN DEALER, BUT THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WILL NOT BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE THE CAR HAD A ROCK DENT FROM PREVIOUS OFF-ROADING WHICH HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE DAY OF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT. AS FOR EVIDENCE, I HAVE UPLOADED ON YOUTUBE THE VIDEO OF MY AIRBAGS DEPLOYING SO THAT PEOPLE CAN SEE THAT IT DEPLOYED FOR NO REASON. IT IS BRAND NEW VEHICLE, WITH LESS THAN 7500 MILES ON IT, THE DEALER WILL NOT RESPOND, AND SO I HAD TO TALK WITH NISSAN AMERICA CORPORATE OFFICE IN WHICH THEY WILL MAKE ANOTHER ANALYSIS OF THIS VEHICLE IN WHICH I DO BELIEVE THAT IT IS A DEFECT. FOR THIS REPAIR, THEY WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE ROOF CEILING IN WHICH I DO NOT BELIEVE THAT IT WILL BE THE SAME AS BEFORE, AND SO I HAVE REQUESTED THEM TO GET ME A NEW VEHICLE BECAUSE I LOST CONFIDENCE OF MY DEFECTIVE ONE. FROM NOW ON, I WILL HAVE THE TRAUMA OF AIRBAGS DEPLOYING AT ANY TIME, AND I AM DOING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE I DO THINK THAT IT IS DANGEROUS TO LET THEM HAVE SUCH SYSTEM BECAUSE I CAN IMAGINE THAT BECAUSE OF THESE AIRBAGS, I COULD HAVE GOTTEN INTO A BIG ACCIDENT, AND WISH THAT IT IS FIXED FOR EVERYONE FOR THE SAFETY OF HUMAN KIND!!!
