THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 HAS STOPPED WORKING MOST OF THE TIME. I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME IT WAS A BATTERY ISSUE, AND TOLD ME TO REPLACE THE BATTERY AND THAT SHOULD FIX IT. I DID THAT AND THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN FIXED, IN FACT IT GOT WORSE. BEFORE IT WOULD START WORKING AFTER A FEW MILES, BUT NOW IT HASN'T STARTED WORKING SINCE I REPLACED THE BATTERY. IF THE STEERING GOES OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN AS I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT DOES, WHILE MY WIFE IS DRIVING THERE WILL BE NO DOUBT AN ACCIDENT. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ GM DOES NOT KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND WANTS ME TO PAY TO REPLACE EVERYTHING UNTIL THEY CAN FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. *TR
MY CAR HAS SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH IT'S POWER STEERING. I NOTICED THAT WHEN I WOULD TAKE A TURN MY STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK UP AND MY CAR FELT LIKE IT WANTED TO STALL ON ME. I WOULD HAVE TO STOP THE CAR, SHUT IT OFF AND THEN TURN IT BACK ON IN ORDER TO GET THE STEERING WHEEL TO WORK AGAIN. THIS WOULD HAPPEN AT LEAST 2 TIMES A WEEK. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO A FEW PLACES AND NOBODY COULD DETECT THE PROBLEM. FINALLY I HAD THE POWER STEERING RACK REPLACED BECAUSE I WAS TOLD THAT SEEMED TO BE THE PROBLEM AND FOR A FEW MONTHS IT WORKED FINE UNTIL THE OTHER DAY, THE STEERING STARTED TO ACT UP AGAIN. I COULD TELL RECENTLY MY STEERING WHEEL WAS PULLING LEFT TO RIGHT WHEN I WOULD BE DRIVING, IT WOULD SHAKE A LOT SO AND THEN AS I WAS TURNING INTO MY DRIVEWAY THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP ON ME AGAIN AND MY CAR STARTED TO STALL. I'VE DONE A LITTLE RESEARCH ON LINE AND CURRENT OWNERS OF THIS VEHICLE SEEM TO BE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND TOO HAVE STATED THAT NOBODY CAN SEEM TO DETECT OR FIX THE PROBLEM. NOT ONLY AM I IN THE VEHICLE BUT I HAVE A 2 YEAR OLD CHILD THAT HAS TO TRAVEL WITH ME IN THIS VEHICLE AND IT IS BECOMING MORE AND MORE UNSAFE. *TR

I BOUGHT A PONTIAC 2006 G6 GT 3.5 LITER ENGINE HAS A LOTS OF POWER FOR A V6, MILEAGE WAS 47,000 KILO. FIRST WEEK HAD TO REPLACE ONE FRONT STRUT WAS LEAKING, ALSO FRONT TOP PLATE BEARING AND STEERING KIT WAS KNOCKING . TRACTION CONTROL VERY NOISY. NOW MILEAGE WAS ABOUT 52,000 K . STILL HAVE PROBLEM WITH THE MANUAL TAP SHIFTING WONT SHIFT DOWN TO 4TH GEAR , SEEN THE DEALER THREE TIME NOW DOESN'T HAVE THE PROBLEM EVERY THING WAS SHIFTING GOOD. SEEN THE DEALER AGAIN FOR THE SAME PROBLEM YESTERDAY THANK GOD IT DID IT ONCE WHILE THE MECHANIC DID A TEST DRIVE WAS WITH HIM FOR THE TEST NOW BEEN OK FOR THREE DAYS. NOW 56,123 K THEY SAID MAYBE WONT COVER ON WARRANTY BECAUSE ABUSE , IF THEY SEE SIGN OF COFFEE OR SOFT DRINK SPILLS. WHY THE CAR HAS COFFEE CUP HOLDER RIGHT THERE OR NEAR THE SHIFTER COLUMN THE ELECTRONIC COMPONENT HIS RIGHT THERE? CRAZY DON'T YOU THINK. HOPE IT WITH GET BETTER. NOT THE BEST CAR FOR ME UP TO NOW. WITH THAT MILEAGE SHOULD BE LIKE A NEW CAR. *TR
STEERING FAILURE ON MY 2006 PONTIAC G6 SEDAN WITH 35,000 MILES. STEERING IS NOT "LOCKED" BUT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN. CAN NOT TURN MORE THAN 1/4 TURN OF THE STEERING WHEEL. NO ACCIDENTS BUT ANY SUDDEN MANEUVERS OR LANE CHANGES ARE IMPOSSIBLE. THERE ARE ALREADY COMPLAINTS FILED WITH GM ON THIS ISSUE BUT THEY NEVER INITIATED A RECALL. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 PONTIAC G-6. I HAD JUST GOTTEN IT OUT OF THE SHOP, AS I HAD AN ACCIDENT AND IT NEEDED REPAIRS. I DROVE IT ABOUT 25 MILES, AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND I HAD NO CONTROL OF MY STEERING. I WAS FORTUNATE THAT I WAS IN TOWN DOING ABOUT 25 MPH. I PULLED OFF OF THE ROAD, CALLED THE AUTO BODY SHOP AND TOOK IT BACK. MY INSURANCE CO. SAID TO TAKE IT TO A DEALER AND HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC (SPELLING), DONE TO SEE IF IT WAS DUE TO THE ACCIDENT. WELL, IT WASN'T, SO I HAVE TO PAY TO GET IT FIXED. THAT'S WHEN THE AUTO BODY SHOP LOOKED IT UP AND SURE ENOUGH, THIS SEEMS TO BE A REAL PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE OF CAR. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY; THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE? WHY ; AFTER OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, AND EVEN HAD ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES, HASN'T SOMETHING BEEN DONE? I MYSELF, COULD'VE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND HURT. WHY; DOES THE CONSUMER, AND ,OR, THE INS. CO. HAVE TO PAY THE PRICE FOR GM'S FAILURES? TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. HE APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND, IMMEDIATELY, THE ENGINE POWER DRASTICALLY REDUCED. THE "TRACTION CONTROL", "ENGINE POWER REDUCED", AND "CHECK ENGINE" WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE FAILURES OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURES WERE RELATED TO THE THROTTLE BODY. THE TECHNICIAN CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT THE FAILURES RECURRED THE SAME DAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER THAT RECOMMENDED THE THROTTLE BODY BE REPLACED, BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO GUARANTEE THAT THE REMEDY WOULD PREVENT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE CONTACT IS WAITING ON A RESPONSE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 65,400.

I BOUGHT MY '06 PONTIAC G6 IN JUNE OF 08. I HAD TO HAVE NEW BRAKES PUT ON THE CAR IN DEC '08. AT THE BRAKE SHOP I WAS INFORMED THAT MY ROTORS WERE BADLY WORN (MORE THAN NORMAL) SO I HAD THEM MACHINED, THE TECH ALSO INFORMED ME THAT I NEEDED NE CALIPERS. IN JAN OF '09 MY BREAKS BEGAN SQUEALING AGAIN! MY ROTORS WERE ONCE AGAIN WORN! I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE BRAKING SYSTEM OF THIS MODEL AND THEREFORE BELIEVE THAT THERE MUST BE A DEFECT. I NEEDED NEW ROTORS WHEN THE CAR ONLY HAD 60K MILES! THIS IS NOT NORMAL!!!!! IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE BY GM ON THIS ISSUES, AND I BELIEVE THAT IT IS TIME!!!! MY SUN VISOR MIRROR COVERS ARE NONFUNCTIONAL AS THEY DON'T STAY OPEN AND DO NOT WORK PROPERLY. I SEE THAT IN BULLETIN # 05094 IN DECEMBER 2005 THIS WAS ADDRESSED BUT THERE WAS NEVER A RECALL ON THESE AND THEY COST OVER $250 TO FIX. THIS IS SOMETHING FAULTY WITH THE CAR AND I AM CURIOUS AS TO WHY THERE IS NO RECALL. *TR
WHEN MAKING TURNS FROM A STOP YOU CAN HEAR A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE STEERING. ALSO, THE CAR HAS A FLOATING FEELING TO THE STEERING, AS IF IT ISN'T IN CONTROL. *TR

THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE BRAKE LIGHTS FAILED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. IN ADDITION, THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE BODY CONTROL MODULE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 92,000.
THE BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATES WHEN PEDAL IS NOT ENGAGED, AND GOES OUT BRIEFLY WHEN ENGAGED MY CRUISE CONTROL IS NOT WORKING AS WELL. I BECAME AWARE OF THIS SITUATION WHEN IN FOR INSPECTION THE CAR FAILED FOR THE CENTER MOUNT STOP LIGHT WAS NOT WORKING DUE TO BURNED AND MELTED BULBS AND HOLDERS. BEING TOLD I NEEDED TO FIX. IT BECAME KNOW AS TO THE BRAKE LIGHTS TURNING ON WHEN PEDAL IS NOT ENGAGED. I CHANGED BRAKE SWITCH, PROBLEM STILL CONTINUED. I SOUGHT INFO ON INTERNET AND CAME UPON FORMER RECALL OF THIS, AND RECENT COMPLAINTS. I CALLED GM DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND REASON FOR BULB HOLDERS MELTING IS FROM HEAT FROM BEING ON ALL THE TIME, MY CRUISE CONTROL GOING OUT. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACK AND PINION FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED ON TWO OTHER OCCASIONS AND WAS REPAIRED BOTH TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 146,000. UPDATED 4/29/15*CN
I OWN A 2006 PONTIAC G6 GT. PREVIOUSLY, STEERING PROBLEMS INCLUDED LOUD SOUNDS AND A FAULTY STEERING RACK. THE STEERING RACK WAS REPLACED AROUND 4000 MILES AFTER MY 60K WARRANTY. I AM MENTIONING THIS BECAUSE IT SEEMS THAT MANY G6'S HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM ALONG WITH MANY SIMILAR/SAME AREA PROBLEMS. NOW MY STEERING IS BEGINNING TO LOCK UP AND IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN OUT OF A PARKED POSITION, EVENTUALLY IT GOES AWAY. IT SEEMS THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS ALSO BEEN A LARGE COMPLAINT W/ G6 OWNERS. I BELIEVE THE NHTSA HAS LOOKED INTO THE ISSUES BEFORE, BUT I BELIEVE IT WAS TOO LONG AGO. SOME OF THESE PROBLEMS SEEM TO TAKE A LITTLE TIME TO OCCUR AND WHEN THE STUDY WAS DONE LESS G6'S WERE ON THE ROAD/THE ONES THAT WERE HAD LESS MILES. I AM URGING THAT THESE ISSUES REALLY GET LOOKED AT AGAIN. G6OWNERSCLUB.COM/FORUM WILL EXHIBIT MANY COMPLAINTS AND HOW MANY SMALLER STEERING ISSUES THERE ARE THAT POSSIBLY ASSIST IN/LEAD UP TO THE MORE SERIOUS ISSUES LIKE STEERING LOCK UP. THESE THINGS ARE GRADUAL. SO MANY PEOPLE SHOULDN'T BE OUT SO MUCH MONEY ON RANDOM STEERING ISSUES WITH A 'NEW' CAR. IT SHOULDN'T COST SO MUCH MONEY TO ENSURE SAFETY IN A NEW CAR. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES ON HER VEHICLE. WHENEVER SHE DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD DIM. WHENEVER SHE DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE BRAKE LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE. THE DEALER STATED THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO PAY $95 PER HOUR TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED. THE CONTACT DECLINED SERVICE AND THE ISSUE SEEMED TO HAVE CORRECTED ITSELF THE FOLLOWING DAY. ON JUNE 23, 2009, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V036000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000.
I WAS MAKING A TURN OUT OF MY APARTMENT COMPLEX WHEN I NOTICED A POWER STEERING LIGHT DISPLAY ON THE RADIO SCREEN. I FIGURED IT WAS A LITTLE LOW ON FLUID. I WAS AT THE LIGHTS WAITING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN AND THEN A RIGHT TO THE LOCAL GAS STATION TO PURCHASE SOME POWER STEERING FLUID. THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND I PROCEEDED TOWARDS MY TURN WHEN THE VEHICLE LOCKED UP ON ME. THERE WAS A CAR WAITING FOR ME TO TURN INTO THE LOT OR PASS HER. I COULDN'T MAKE THE RIGHT TURN IN THE GAS STATION. BUT LUCKILY I WAS NOT DRIVING FAST THAT I WAS ABLE TO SLAM MY BRAKES AND COME INCHES FROM HITTING HER SUV. OF COURSE AS ANYONE WOULD BE SHE WAS IRATE. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK (P), STEPPED OUT TO APOLOGIZE BUT SHE WOULD NOT HEAR IT AND DROVE AWAY. I GOT BACK INTO MY CAR, PLACED IT BACK INTO DRIVE (D) AND WAS ABLE TO STOP FIFTY FEET FROM THE ENTRANCE OF THE GAS STATION. I CHECKED UNDER THE HOOD FOR ABLE 30 MINUTES OR SO FIND NO POWER STEERING RESERVOIR. I DECIDED TO GO BACK HOME AND LOOK ONLINE AND NOTICE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THERE WAS NO PROPERTY DAMAGE BUT I HOPE THERE DOES NOT HAVE TO BE ONE IN ORDER TO HAVE SOMEONE ISSUE SOME PROPER HELP WHEN THE PROBLEM STARING RIGHT AT THEM. I HAVE A 2006 PONTIAC G6 GT OVER 60,000 MILES, WELL PASSED ANY BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. PLUS I HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED AT A GM DEALERSHIP FOR SUSPENSION AND STEERING ISSUES BEFORE AND FOUND NO ISSUES BEFORE, WHICH IS WHY I JUST DEALT WITH THE POPPING SOUND WHEN I WOULD THE WHEEL WHEN BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 PONTIAC G6. WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, THE CONTACT HEARD CLUNKING NOISES COMING FROM THE STEERING. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED AND THE NOISES HAVE GOTTEN WORSE. THROUGH RESEARCH, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD RECURRING STEERING ISSUES. THE LACK OF GREASE IN THE STEERING COLUMN CAUSED THE NOISES AND THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE TO HAVE IT GREASED EVERY SO OFTEN. THE CONTACT WILL REPAIR AND GREASE THE VEHICLE HIMSELF. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
FRONT PASSENGER SENSOR. THE SEAT SENSOR WHICH ARMS AIRBAG WHEN OCCUPANT IS PRESENT INTERMITTENTLY DISARMS WHEN SEAT IS OCCUPIED. *TR
POWER STEERING WENT OUT DURING BLIZZARD-LIKE CONDITIONS. I COULD NOT TURN THE WHEEL. SINCE THEN, INTERMITTENT TIMES OF POWER STEERING LOCKING UP. THEN, IN SEPTEMBER OF 2010, CAR BEGAN RATTLING, THUMPING, HAVING A MIND OF ITS OWN. SOUNDS LIKE AN AIRPLANE. POWER STEERING NOTICE AND ENGINE LIGHT ARE ON PERMANENTLY NOW. I HAVE ALREADY TALKED ABOUT THE POTENTIAL FOR ACCIDENT WITH MY CHILDREN AND HAD TO PREPARE THEM FOR THIS BECAUSE WE CANNOT AFFORD ALL OF THIS WORK. IN THE LAST TWO YEARS, THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED 7 TIMES (IN THE SHOP 6 TIMES IN 2008 FROM MAY-SEPT). THEY HAD TO SPECIAL ORDER THE CALIPERS BECAUSE LIKE THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING, THE CALIPERS ON A G6 ARE THE ONLY CAR THAT IS "DONE THIS WAY." THE STEERING FAILURE IS NOW TAKING A TOLL ON THE BRAKES. I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED THE FLOODING ON THE FLOOR BOARDS OF THE CAR IN THE BACKSEAT AND TRUNK BUT NEVER MADE A CONNECTION UNTIL READING ALL 857 COMPLAINTS THOROUGHLY ON ONE WEBSITE AND 153 ON ANOTHER. I HAVE CONTACTED AND AM AWAITING A RETURN CALL FROM A LAWYER. I AM ALSO CONTACTING THE COMPANY OUR CAR IS FINANCED THROUGH FOR SOME KIND OF RECOURSE. THE CAR HAS A POPPING SOUND WHEN TURNING IN EITHER DIRECTION. IT OCCASIONALLY "LOCKS" AND IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO TURN. ONCE THE CAR IS TURNED OF, IT MUST "RESET" SOMETHING, BECAUSE IT WORKS FINE UNTIL THE NEXT TIME IT DECIDES TO HAVE AN ISSUE. IT HAS DISPLAYED LOW POWER STEERING JUST PRIOR TO SOME OF THESE INSTANCES. I'VE READ VARIOUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING OF THIS CAR ON DIFFERENT WEBSITES. ALL HAVE REPORTED THE "SAME" TYPES OF ISSUES. *TR
I WAS DRIVING SOUTH ON INTERSTATE 45 LAST NIGHT WHEN THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO PULL THE CAR OFF THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT GETTING HIT. I FOUND OUT LATER THAT IT IS ELECTRICAL AND IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT NOW BECAUSE IT COULD, AND PROBABLY WILL GO OUT AGAIN WHILE DRIVING. NEITHER THE MANUFACTURER NOR THE DEALER WERE CONTACTED TO REPORT THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000. I COMPLETELY LOST STEERING IN MY VEHICLE..I WAS WITH MY 16 MONTH OLD SON AND MY STEERING WHEEL WENT COMPLETELY LOOSE, THEN IT WOULD TIGHTEN UP SO TIGHT, IT WOULD TAKE ALL OF MY STRENGTH TO TURN THE WHEEL. I WAS GOING AROUND 20 MPH AT THE TIME OF THE SECOND INCIDENT. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE, WE WOULD HAVE BOTH BEEN KILLED. THIS HAPPENED AROUND 4 WEEKS BEFORE WHILE TRYING TO LEAVE THE PARKING LOT OF A LOCAL COLLEGE. THE STEERING WHEEL TIGHTENED AND IT TOOK ME AND MY PASSENGER TO TURN THE WHEEL TO EXIT THE LOT. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE, EVEN THOUGH THIS IS CLEARLY A PROBLEM WITH SEVERAL OF THESE VEHICLES, AND PEOPLE HAVE BEEN KILLED FROM LOSS OF STEERING. THERE IS A CLUNKING IN THE FRONT END WHEN YOU TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I TOOK THIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON 11/07/08, AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE CLUNKING WAS COMING FROM THE STEERING RACK. THEY REPLACED THE STEERING RACK FOR NO CHARGE BECAUSE IT WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE PROBLEM I HAVE IS THAT THIS IS THE THIRD VEHICLE THAT I'VE TAKEN IN FOR THIS PROBLEM, BUT ONLY TWO WERE COVERED BECAUSE OF WARRANTY ISSUES. I OWN TWO PONTIAC 2006 G-6'S, AND ONE 2008 G-6.
