AFTER EXITING THE VEHICLE WHICH WAS PARKED IN A UNIVERSITY PARKING GARAGE, THE CAR BLEW UP. THIS WAS DUE TO AN OIL LEAK ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD.
ON SEPT 25 2015 I WAS INVOLVED IN A AUTO ACCIDENT. I HAD TO BRAKE HARD. MY CAR WAS NOT DAMAGE THAT BAD BUT MY CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE LATER THAT DAY AND TOTALLY BURNED. A TOTAL LOST. ONCE I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE I REALIZED THAT IS WHY MY CAR POSSIBLY CAUGHT ON FIRE DUE TO HARD BRAKING. I WAS APPROACHING AN STOP LIGHT AND A LARGE BOX TRUCK WAS MOVING IN REVERSE QUICKLY. ALL I COULD DUE WAS BRAKE TO TRY AND STOP SO THE TRUCK WOULD NOT HIT ME. THE TRUCK HIT MY VEHICLE. DAMAGING MY FRONT END A LITTLE. THE TRUCK ACTUALLY ROLLED ON TOP OF MY HOOD BEFORE COMING TO COMPLETE STOP. I FEEL THAT MY CAR CAUGHT ON FIRE DUE TO WHAT THE RECALL STATES. 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENGINE SEIZED DUE TO LOSS OF OIL PRESSURE AND ROTATING ASSEMBLY CAME THROUGH ENGINE BLOCK CAUSING ENGINE FIRE. CONSUMER REQUESTS REIMBURSEMENT FOR ENGINE EXHAUST MANIFOLD RECALL REPAIRS. *SMD GM DENIED THE CONSUMERS REQUEST, BECAUSE THEY CLAIMED THE REPAIR THAT WAS PERFORMED, WAS NOT THE REPAIR COVERED BY THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER STATED THE REPLACEMENT ENGINE CAUGHT ON FIRE TWO MONTHS AFTER IT WAS REPLACED, DUE TO OIL DEPOSITED ON THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. *JB
MY VEHICLE WAS PARKED. THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WENT INTO FLAMES. I HAVE HAD NO PRECIOUS ENGINE ISSUES AND THOUGH IT HAS A LOT OF MILES ON THE CARE IT HAS BEEN KEPT UP WELL. ALL MY FLUIDS WERE AT APPROPRIATE LEVELS. THE FIRE DESTROYED MY CAR. *JS

I WAS STOPPED AT AN INTERSECTION WHEN SUDDENLY I NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM INSIDE THE HOOD. SO ONCE THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND POPPED THE HOOD TO DISCOVER A SMALL FIRE THAT HAD BEGAN INSIDE THE ENGINE. AFTER FRANTICALLY LOOKING FOR ASSISTANCE A LOCAL RESIDENT USED A FIRE HYDRANT TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. BY THE TIME THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT EXTENSIVE DAMAGE HAD BEEN DONE TO THE ENGINE. HOWEVER THE BATTERY ALTERNATOR AND ALL OTHER PARTS REMAIN INTACT AND FUNCTIONAL. *TR

THE FACT IS, I HAVE STAGE II LUNG CANCER AND NEED A SAFE CAR TO DRIVE TO DR'S APPOINTMENTS REGARDING MY CONDITION. WE ALSO RENT A GARAGE FOR $75.00 A MONTH, WHICH WE OBVIOUSLY DO IN ORDER TO PARK OUR CAR! YOUR BRILLIANT HOTLINE SPOKESWOMAN (MAKAYLA, EXT. 5913737, 1-866-790-3600) TOLD MY GIRLFRIEND (AS DOES THE RECALL) NOT TO PARK THE FIRE HAZARD IN-OR-AROUND GARAGES, OTHER VEHICLES, AS WELL AS OTHER FIRE RISKS. SHE ACTUALLY TOLD MY GIRLFRIEND THAT WE SHOULD "PARK THE CAR DOWN THE BLOCK", DUE TO THE FACT THAT WE LIVE IN AN APARTMENT COMPLEX. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? VEHICLE IS A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GTP 3.8 LITER SUPERCHARGED SEDAN. THERE IS A STRONG BURNING SMELL THAT CAN BE SMELLED BY ANYONE WHO IS EXITING THE VEHICLE OR STANDING NEAR THE VEHICLE WHEN IT IS NOT IN MOTION. THE "LOW OIL LEVEL" LIGHT IS NOW ILLUMINATED ONLY THREE DAYS AFTER THE SMELL WAS DETECTED. OIL LEVEL EXTREMELY LOW AS VALIDATED BY FLUID CHECK. I WAS DRIVING ALONG,AND SUDDENLY WITHOUT WARNING,THE ENGINE DIED...NATURALLY THE POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES DIDN'T WORK, BUT I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR OVER TO THE CURB. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, HE WAS ADVISED BY ANOTHER DRIVER THAT THERE WERE FLAMES COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, FOUND A FIRE HAD ERUPTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE WITH A FIRE EXTINGUISHER. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. PRIOR TO THE FAILURE, THE CONTACT HAD RECEIVED NOTIFICATION THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V116000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE RECALL NOTIFICATION WAS RECEIVED LESS THAN 24 HOURS PRIOR TO THE FIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE THE RECALL REPAIR BECAUSE THEY HAD SENT VARIOUS NOTICES TO THE CONTACT PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONLY ONE RECALL NOTIFICATION WAS RECEIVED, THE SAME DAY AS THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 215,000.

I HAD THE RECALL DONE ON MY GRAND PRIX IN 2011. FOR THE SPARK PLUG WIRE RETAINER, TO ALLEGEDLY PREVENT FROM ENGINE FIRE. 6/9/14 I HAD PULLED INTO A GAS STATION TO FUEL UP. NOTICED THAT SMOKE WAS COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD ALL OF THE SUDDEN. POPPED THE HOOD. SAW NOTHING BUT FLAME. SHUT THE HOOD, GOT AN EXTINGUISHER RIGHT AWAY FROM THE STORE ATTENDANT. OPENED THE HOOD AND PUT OUT THE FIRE... GAS STATION WAS VERY BUSY AT THE TIME, A LOT OF PEOPLE PUMPING GAS WILE MY CAR WAS ON FIRE. LUCKILY THE MATTER WAS DEALT WITH IN A TIMELY MATTER. THIS PROBLEM HAS THE POTENTIAL GO MUCH FARTHER THAN JUST SOMEONE'S CAR BEING BURNT. AND HAS ALREADY FOR SOME PEOPLE. GM DOESN'T WANT TO SEEM TO TAKE CARE OF THE DAMAGE CAUSED TO MY CAR WITHIN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME, OR EVEN IF AT ALL. THIS HAPPEN TO ME YESTERDAY. AND WAS NOTHING BUT TOSSED AROUND TO DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS AT GM OVER THE PHONE. WHY WAS I NOT GIVEN A LONER/RENTAL CAR UNTIL THEY FIX THE PROBLEM THAT THEY HAVE CREATED? IN 2013, MY 2000 GRAND PRIX HAD SMOKE COMING FROM THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHILE DRIVING DOWN A CITY STREET. WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, FLAMES WERE THEN COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND THE WHOLE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS ON FIRE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AND HAD TO RIP OPEN THE HOOD WITH POWER TOOLS TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. A WEEK PRIOR I HAD AN OIL CHANGE AND TWO NEW FRONT TIRES PUT ON. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 138,000.
CAR WAS PARKED ABOUT 10 MINS. BEFORE SOMEONE NOTICED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER HOOD. HOOD WAS OPENED AND FIRE WAS PUT OUT BY WATER. FIRE DEPT WAS CALLED AND THEY JUST MADE SURE FIRE WAS OUT. MUCH OF THE TOP OF THE ENGINE WAS MELTED AND HARNESS' WERE MELTED AND BURNT. WE KNOW THE RECALL FOR THIS CAR FOR FIRES WAS DONE IN 2009, YET IT STILL CAUGHT FIRE. *TR

I WAS PULLING OUT TO CROSS BUSY FOUR LANE. A CAR COMING FROM RIGHE SWITCHED LANES AND TURNED IN FRONT OF ME. I APPLIED BRAKES SMARTLY BUT DID NOT APPLY HARD ENOUGH TO SLIDE OR SQUEAL TIRES. AFTER THAT I CONTINUED ABOUT A MILE AND STARTED TO BRAKE FOR A STOP LIGHT. BRAKES FELT AS IF SOME AIR WAS IN SYSTEM (NOT FULLY BLED). NEXT I APPLIED AGAIN FOR ANOTHER LIGHT. CONDITION WORSENED. BY THE TIME I RETURNED TO MY RESIDENCE, ABOUT THREE MILES AWAY, I HAD TO USE EMERGENY BRAKE. ALL FLUID WAS GONE FROM MASTER CYLINDER RESERVOIR. I PLACED CAR ON JACK, REFILLED RESERVOIR AND PUMPED BRAKES, AND FOUND THAT ABOUT 2 TO 3 INCHES OF BRAKE LINES DIRECTLY UNDER DRIVERS FLOOR, ON THE SLOPED PART GOING UPWARD TO MASTER CYLINDER ,WERE SEVERELY CORRODED AND HAD FAILED (PIN HOLE). LINE ABOVE LOOKS NEW AND LINE BELOW THE AREA LOOKS NEW. ALSO THE CAR IS VERY CLEAN AND NON RUSTED ON BOTTOM. THIS CAR HAS BEEN PAMPERED SINCE WE PURCHASED FROM DEALER AT 18,000 MILES. THIS IS CLEARLY A MATERIALS ISSUE AS THE PART THAT IS CORRODED IS IN A SLOPED AREA WHICH WOULD NATURALLY DRAIN OFF ANY MOISTURE THAT COLLECTS. ADDITIONALLY FUEL LINES AND ADJACENT TO THE BRAKE LINES ARE ALSO CORRODED. I SUSPECT THAT LINES WERE DAMAGED WHEN ORIGINALLY BENT, PROBABLY PEIRCING THE OUTER CORROSION COATING. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED BY A RECALL. I SEARCHED FOR ABOUT FIVE MINUTES ON LINE AND FOUND FIVE COMPLAINTS THAT EXACTLY DUPLICATE MY PROBLEM. THIS FAILURE MODE BYPASSES THE SAFETY DESIGN OF THE MASTER CYLINDER WHICH IS DESIGNED TO KEEP EITHER FRONT OR REAR BRAKES WORKING IF THE OTHER FAILS. I WAS TRAVELING TO WORK AT AROUND 5:30AM AND STARTED TO PASS A SEMI TRUCK WHEN THE SEMI SIGNALED TO COME OVER TOO THE PASSING LANE AS WELL TO PASS A SLOWER MOVING TRUCK IN FRONT OF HIM. I LET OFF THE GAS PEDAL AND SIGNAL FOR THE TRUCK TO MANEUVER INTO THE PASSING LANE. I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND HAD NO STOPPING POWER. THEN THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, SO I TURNED ON MY HAZARD LIGHTS TO MOVE TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I GOT OUT AND CHECKED THE FLUID LEVEL IN THE MASTER CYLINDER TO FIND THAT THERE WAS NONE VISIBLE. I CALL MY BROTHER TO COME AND TOW ME AND THE CAR HOME, WHICH WAS ABOUT 6 MILES FROM THE HOUSE. AFTER I LIFTED THE CAR AND PUT BRAKE FLUID IN THE MASTER CYLINDER, I FOUND THAT THE BRAKE LINE HAD RUPTURED WHERE THE FUEL LINE AND THE BRAKE FLUID LINE COME TOGETHER IN THE REAR OF THE CAR. I HAVE HAD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS TO THE BRAKE LINE SYSTEM OF $255 OF MY OWN MONIES! THANKS PONTIAC FOR POSSIBLY CAUSING THE LOSS OF LIFE OR INJURY TO MYSELF, MY FAMILY, AND ANY OTHER MISFORTUNES THAT MIGHT HAVE HAPPENED BECAUSE OF YOUR LACK OF A IMPROPER, UNRELIABLE AND UNSAFE BRAKING SYSTEM!!!
